JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Put the Rumor to Rest

"And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt...but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings."  (Exodus 10:22-23)

Years ago Satan started a rumor. He told a few Christians that they had to live like the world, sharing all the same misfortune, defeats, poverty and failure with those around them. Well, the word spread. You may have heard the rumor yourself. But I am telling you right now that it is a crafty lie.

The Word of God says in Psalm 91:10, that evil can't even come near your house if you are abiding in Him.

In John 16, Jesus Himself says He has deprived the world of power to harm you. And Exodus 10:23 says that when thick darkness surrounded the Egyptians, the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.

By these and other scriptures, you can see that God never intended you to experience all the junk the world suffers. He's always wanted His children to live above it, to stand out as light in a dark world.

In the Old Testament, God's fame was established because of the miracles He had worked for His children. That same thing should be true today with you and me. We should be glorifying God by the miraculously victorious lives we live. People should be coming up to us and saying things like, "I've heard how God healed you." Or, "I've heard how your children were delivered from drugs." Or, "God has really brought you out of a financial crisis."

Can you see now why Satan would spread a rumor to make you believe you have to suffer with the world instead of live as victor over it? He doesn't want people running after you asking where you get your power, your peace, your health and prosperity.

But that's exactly what God wants to happen. So put the Word of God to work and dare to receive the blessings He has promised to you. Let the light of God's power in your life put the devil's dark rumors to rest!

Our Sun and Shield (#20050621)
by Henry Morris, Ph.D.
"For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly" (Psalm 84:11).

This beautiful verse is one to remember. The Lord Jesus is "the light of the world" (John 8:12) and our wonderful sun—which daily provides the radiant energy to sustain the earth's many systems and processes, including our physical life—should continually remind us of Him. The sun will last forever (Psalm 148:3-6, etc.) but in the holy city where we shall live someday, "the city [has] no need of the sun . . . the Lamb is the light thereof" (Revelation 21:23).

On this particular date, the sun shines longer than on any other day of the year (in the northern hemisphere, that is) and the date is accordingly called the summer solstice ("solstice," from the Latin, means "sun standing still"; the same date is the winter solstice in the southern hemisphere). There was, of course, also that one almost incredible day during the ancient conquest of Canaan by the Israelites when "the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day" (Joshua 10:13).

The God of creation, the Lord Jesus Christ, even now upholds the sun which He created and controls by the "word of His power" (Hebrews 1:3). He also is our personal sun, for "in Him we live, and move, and have our being" (Acts 17:28). He can indeed "give grace and glory" to those who "walk uprightly." In that glorious age to come, it is promised that the physical sun "shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but the Lord shall be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory. Thy sun shall no more go down; neither shall thy moon withdraw itself: for the Lord shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended" (Isaiah 60:19-20). HMM

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  I wonder if the site has been down today as I see only the devotional thought by Janet and your posting Marilyn.  It is almost 4 pm eastern time and I wonder where everyone is today.

We were gone all morning as Pat had another doctor's appointment with the hip doctor.  He is sending her to physical therapy for up to 4 weeks and taking her off the anti-inflamatory medicines she has taken for a rather long time.  I then stopped at Kaiser to get my referral done to see the heart specialist.  I can't get an appointment before August 24th.  I then had a prescription for pain medicine to fill at the pharmacy.  It was for demoral and the doctor had prescribed 25 mg dosage and they only have it in 50 mg pills.  By law they can't dispense it and have to cut the tablets in two.  If the doctor writes the script like that then they can.  They also cannot accept a call from the doctor but must have a new written script.  Fortunately, I very seldom need the pain medicine but the occasionally the angina starts and doesn't want to stop and the doctor said that is hard on my heart and he wants me to take a pain pill to try to stop the pain.  So I called the doctor's nurse when I got home but haven't heard back.

That has been my exciting day.  This evening my daughter and I are going to a seminar at the car dealership regarding the new car.  By attending they will give us a certificate for a free oil change and therefore it is worthwhile to attend.  I am sure it will be a way for them to let us know about their service department but I hope it will be worthwhile.  I am not really looking forward to the evening.

Al, the computer is quite unforgiving.  I know how difficult it can be sometimes to see the problem.  Glad you found it.

Marilyn, I hope you get your health insurance situation are settled shortly.

Carol, I sent you an IM here on CP with the info you asked about the quilting classes.

Larry ~ Yes, I am NEGATIVE!!  And I don't have to return to see the Urologist until December 19th.

The Weiner Roast went well after some anxiety.  I thought the weiner roast was to be at 6 p.m.  So at 5:30 p.m., I loaded my car and went to the woods.  In my part of Indiana, most of the county roads are in mile squares.  The woods is a half mile from any road.  And yes, in my younger days I walked to the woods but now I drive the lawn tractor or the car.  I unloaded my car.  Got the rake and raked the leaves onto the limbs in the fire pit and got my fire going.  6 p.m.  No one yet.  I got my newspapers and put them on the fire.  6:30 p.m.  No one yet.  I put some big logs on the fire.  6:40 p.m.  Ivalou called me to tell me she was going to be gone for awhile...wanted to know if we were having a good time.  I told her I was alone and if no one was there by 7:30 p.m., I was packing up and going back to the house.  Glad I took my new Reader's Digest but hard to concentrate on reading when the birds were singing so loud and jovially!  7 p.m.  No one yet.  Then at about 7:10 p.m., the first car came.  Two women and three little girls.  Oh, those girls had a ball in the woods.  Then another couple in another car.  Then another couple.  Then another couple.  So we had 9 adults and three little girls.  We had hot dogs, brats, buns and snacks and drinks.  So much fun.  And all of them said 'Now we know what you mean by being back in the woods.'  :-*  The pastor said, 'Now I know where to come when I get stressed from too much work.'  ::)  You hear no vehicles other than airplaines.  No noises other than nature.  It is cool and so peaceful.  Wish I wasn't a chicken or I would go back there with a book and read sometimes...but my mind gets carried away in thinking there is someone watching and I head back to the house.   :'(  But anyway, with no electricity for a half mile any direction, when it gets dark, it is DARK.  So everyone started packing up and heading to their homes.  Next year we will have it in the afternoon so they can stay longer.

Today, I have been making phone calls.  I called Genie and now I have a working Wireless Keypad on my garage to open the big door.  It worked but I had to reprogram it and didn't realize you had to push a button on the Overhead Door Operator.  That was after I got a new keypad that wouldn't work on my Itelllicode Genie.  Now I have the new keypad all boxed up ready to take to the post office and return back for a refund.

Then I called Magellan...for my GPS.  They are telling me that I can trade in my old GPS for a new, color display, talk, touch GPS...for a fee, of course.  Must not be impatient....think about this one for awhile.  I love maps!!!!

That's about it in my neck of the woods.  Oh, yeah!

Judy Mc ~ We average around 1200 each Sunday at my church.  Look at it this way,  a large church can afford a great sound system so you can hear every word the minister says.  AND just think how many more smiling faces you see when you go to a large Sunday service.  I like the large churches....too many people to hear all the gossip which tends to be in smaller churches.  One or two can't bicker about the color of the carpet and get by with it either.

Okay, now some more posts need to be made!!!!  I know it is nice weather and all but we need to keep CP going.

Tonight I have to take the minutes so I'll be leaving in a few minutes but it should be over at about 9 pm and then home where I'll be happy to be.

It will be nice when Janet gets home.

Not sure where the rest of our regulars are.

Like a River Glorious
(Click to hear music)

I will extend peace to her like a river,
and the wealth of nations like a flooding stream.
Isaiah 66:12

Words: Frances R. Havergal
Music: James Mountain

Like a river glorious, is God's perfect peace,
Over all victorious, in its bright increase;
Perfect, yet it floweth, fuller every day,
Perfect, yet it groweth, deeper all the way.

Refrain
Stayed upon Jehovah,
hearts are fully blest
Finding, as He promised,
perfect peace and rest.

Hidden in the hollow of His blessed hand,
Never foe can follow, never traitor stand;
Not a surge of worry, not a shade of care,
Not a blast of hurry touch the spirit there.

Refrain

Every joy or trial falleth from above,
Traced upon our dial by the Sun of Love;
We may trust Him fully all for us to do.
They who trust Him wholly find Him wholly true.

Refrain

Nothing new here. I am looking at a place tomorrow, I have seen the outside and looked inthe windows. It is really small. but the yard is real big for the dogs. I want to see the inside before I fill out the application. This does NOT mean I will be getting it.

Hi, friends,

Etta Sue, such GREAT news!

I saw the oral surgeon today, and he's quite pleased with my progress. I'm to finish out the penicillin, then return for a checkup in a month.

Pat, it seems maybe you're feeling better - I hope, I hope!

Suzanne, please feel better soon.

Larry, I'll be praying with you for your wife's recovery. I take exercises the PT prescribed - they have certainly helped my right hip pain. And, I believe Al is doing some, too. And, if course, Marilyn is getting the PT treatments for the back and neck pain.

I'm so thankful there are knowledgeable folk to help us as these problems develop.

Y'all have a good evening.

Ruth Ann
...his compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Al Moak

Yes, I'm also getting physical therapy.  I've got quite a number of exercises that have to be done.  Don't know yet whether it will help, but I hope so.  I may have to have the chiropractic adjustments in additions to these exercises.  I'm glad our Lord knows just what to do with me!

Pat

Yes, Ruth Ann, having a few really good days.  I'm so thankful.

I'm glad that you got a report from the oral surgeon that was pleasing.  That's great.

Hello all!  A warm. buit not too hot, sunny day in WNC.

Concerning big churches -- I have been in big churches that were "alive" and growing, and I have been in big churches that were deader than doornails, and only concerned with the number of people because that was directly affecting the dollars in the offering plate.  I have been in small churches that were "alive" and intimate, and I have been in small churches that were deader than doornails because all they could do was argue among themselves.  I guess what I am trying to say is that it is not hte size of the membership that concerns me but whether or not that membership is doing what God wants them to do.

Just as a side note -- when the "church" is mentioned in the Bible, it does not refer to a specific building, but the entire association of those that believed in/followed Christ.  I wish our churches today were that "broad" and wall-less and we could fellowship with joy with all who follow Christ.

Marilyn
