Our sorrows are multiplied when our sins are.
~Matthew Henry~

How To Overcome Satan

Ephesians 6:10-17 says...

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

Morning Devotional...

For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named.
Ephesians 3:14-15

Sometimes we say, "What a small world!" But the world is no smaller than it's ever been.

What we really mean is, "What a big family."

Think of it, most of the family of God is already in heaven. The older we get the more people we know there than we do here.

This is the family of God--one big, joyful fellowship in heaven and on earth!

Are you getting to know your family members?

"We share in His sufferings in order
that we may also share in His glory."
Romans 8:17

Words & Music: Charles H. Gabriel, in Make His Praise Glorious, by Edwin Excell (Chicago, Illinois: 1900)

When all my labors and trials are o'er,
And I am safe on that beautiful shore,
Just to be near the dear Lord I adore,
Will through the ages be glory for me.

Refrain

O that will be glory for me,
Glory for me, glory for me,
When by His grace I shall look on His face,
That will be glory, be glory for me.

When, by the gift of His infinite grace,
I am accorded in heaven a place,
Just to be there and to look on His face,
Will through the ages be glory for me.

Refrain

Friends will be there I have loved long ago;
Joy like a river around me will flow;
Yet just a smile from my Savior, I know,
Will through the ages be glory for me.

Refrain

Goodmorning all 10.12 in Holland

I am very busy in home and have not really news.

1 Timothy 6 :9 NIV

People who want to get rich fall
into temptation and a trap and into
many foolish and harmful desires
that plunge men into ruin and destruction.

This is not a message for folks who are
financially rich.
No, this is for all of us who want to have that that wealth.
Craving it, coveting it, and going in pursuit
of eartly wealth expose us to grave danger.
Let's be reminded of Jesus words:
Seek first God's Kingdom and His righteousness,
and all these things will be added unto you.

PRAYER...
Thank you, dear Fahter,
for your many blessings.
Please help me to be
satisfied and generous
with the blessings You
have already given me.
Please help me keep my
focus on You and Your Son!
In the name of your Son and
my Saviour, Jesus.
i pray     AMEN.

Hi Ria...

You sounds like me...working at home so no news.

I'm going with a friend this morning to the Home Depot to see about a new lawnmower.  I can't put it off much longer.

Wow!  We're having some violent weather right now so I better get offline.

Good morning, friends,

I had an absorbing volunteer project last evening. I am on the Advisory Committee of one of our local senior citizens centers, and they needed forms redone. So, I got involved and worked later then planned to get them all done.

Larry, I wish I had the time to donate to teaching computers in the daytime, but with working and my latest job keeps me there sometimes for unexpected long hours, I'm leery of volunteering and then letting my students down. For several years I taught Tuesday night classes - Word, Works, Excel, beginning computers...

Well, it's first off to the doctor and then to work, so y'all have a good day and I'll dash back in when I can.

Hi Ruth Ann...

What a busy life you lead!

I think you'd be great volunteering at a Senior Centre for computers.  I just know from many posts I've read of yours on SeniorNet.

Oops!  Another flash of lightening.  Better get off.

This morning's devotional made me think in a new way about finding a church on Sundays as we travel. Staying here near Columbus, OH, it would have been unthinkable not to visit with our daughters and grandchildren living here.  Actually, we've been so busy with the bunch of them that it's been a tad hectic! We've thought we won't be able to "relax" until we head out where we don't have family.

But I'll have family wherever we go. I just need to get a newspaper and find out where they're meeting on Sunday and go to the reunion. What a comfort-filled thought.

Gracie, my granddaughter, got over the ketchup trick sufficiently to play it on her dad.  I guess she "got" it retroactively. Maybe she learned something about being a good sport in the process. She is so cute. Yesterday as they were leaving she said, "I love you Grandma." I said, "I love you double." She said, "I love you triple." I said, I love you quadruple." She looked stumped for about a second and a half, then countered triumphantly, "I love you more!"

A lesson there, too. God's love for us exceeds anything we can quantify, more than the stars in the sky.

Hi everyone, I've not long finished work, I had a good day, nothing went wrong, midnight here now, I'm just cleaning up some e mails, then hit the hay and do it all over again tomorrow. I hope that lightning doesn't do nasty things to your computer pat. It was wet and cold here too today, but no lightning. Tomorrow is my last day at work then I get two days off work...well, that's the plan, of course work can sometimes have other ideas, but I've always found that disconnecting the phone is an excellent way of getting 2 days away from work. Well, unless like one day the boss drove up our drive and had the check to say 'why wasn't I pleased to see him', yep, that day I did work, Maxine just went through the roof. My brother should be here in the morning, he lives over the other side of the island, and he has a small taxi business in a small town there. It'll be one of his famous flying visits for he is a very busy man, but it will be good to see him again, we don't get much time with each other these days. right, time to snore, God bless, les and Maxine

Hello, everybody!  Can't hardly seem to get into gear today, but I've got to get busy :-)

I really hope all of you have a great day.  I find it interesting that Pat buys lawn mowers when the weather is bad... :) :) :)

smokeyging, if the boss shows up after you disconnect the phone, I guess you'll just have to get a second address, too, right?  :)

Have a great day!

It is so quiet as the grands are still asleep!  They have been so active and keeping us on the go all the time.  Elise had her first sewing lesson yesterday and it didn't go fast enough for her so she said she was bored sometimes.  We just love talking to them and hearing what they have to say.  They get to work in the woodshop today and make a pen - one at a time in there and safety goggles and so forth.

We are having rain this morning.  The kids were going into Victoria to the Buchart Gardens as a treat for Wendy's birthday.  Not sure if that will still happen.

It was nice earlier and I went out to have coffee on the patio and try to get a bird picture.  The little critters would not co-operate.  Guess I will have to go out even earlier!!  Had taken Squeeker upstairs as she was playing me out with her constant need to indulge in games.

Nice email, Marilyn.  Cute pictures!  Made my morning.  Thanks.

Pat, I took off the chat as it was causing problems on my computer.  Not certain why.  Did get a lot of things added to my register, etc.  Having a problem posting and getting error and no picture?  The first two worked fine....Life is tricky.  Will try again later.  Could be that God is trying to teach me patience and humility.
:-\

Hope everyone has a pleasant day.  Will come back to read later.

God Bless,

Liz

Worship: Worshipers From Rebels

And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were
sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus
and by the Spirit of our God.
--1 Corinthians 6:11

Sometimes evangelical Christians seem to be fuzzy and uncertain
about the nature of God and His purposes in creation and
redemption. In such instances, the preachers often are to blame.
There are still preachers and teachers who say that Christ died
so we would not drink and not smoke and not go to the theater.

No wonder people are confused! No wonder they fall into the
habit of backsliding when such things are held up as the reason
for salvation.

Jesus was born of a virgin, suffered under Pontius Pilate, died
on the cross and rose from the grave to make worshipers out of
rebels!  Whatever Happened to Worship?, 11.

"Lord, we also teach that Christ died so that we can avoid
hell. While that's a great eternal benefit, it seems to me that
we need to capture this truth--that the first reason Christ died
is that we might become worshipers. Thank You for Your grace.
Amen."

No sinner can worship  a holy God, no-one still in their unsaved state can worship God, perhaps they can worship idols, but idols cannot regenerate sinners either!
Sinners can only cry out to God for mercy, and that only after He convicts them of their sinful state of heart and soul.
Only the blood washed child of God can worship Him, or have any deepfelt urge to be
grateful enough to seek His face in worship.
What a privilege we have. :) ;)

Hi everyone.

A little less hectic day here than yesterday although I was gone all morning.  After walking at the "Y" and coffee at the cafe I took my car in for and oil change, tire rotation and for the emission inspection.

They told me my front brakes were basically gone or I came home and called the garage where I have that work done and they said to come on over.  So I spent the rest of the morning sitting in their waiting room while they fixed the brakes.  I knew it was about time for brakes as had never replaced them on this car.

So I spent most of the morning sitting and reading.  This evening I have choir practice and that will complete my day.

Chris, that was an interesting piece from Mr. Tozer.

Liz, it sounds like Squeeker has pretty well taken over your household! :D

Marilyn, are your bonus PSP projects just individual projects or full lessons like your other lessons?  Hope the chiropractic treatment helped you.

Carol, know you are really enjoying your grandchildren.  It sounds like you have lots of projects to keep them busy.

Etta Sue, your day sounds like some of mine, nothing very exciting but necessary.  Maybe you will have found some minutes for relaxation.

smokeyging, enjoy your visit with your brother and I hope your boss doesn't call to interrupt your visit.

Ellie, glad to see that you have posted again before the weekend.  I see you are finding out that this being retired still keeps us pretty busy.  It is nice you have family many places to visit.

Pat, do hope the storms haven't been too bad up your way.  The last couple of days we have finally had some much needed rain and things are sure a lot greener.  Hope you found your new lawn mower.  I don't even own a lawnmower anymore since I have to have someone cut the yard.

Ruth Ann, I remember your posting on SeniorNet about teaching classes over the years.  When you retire I am sure they will be most happy to have your help again at the Computer Learning Center.  Our Computer Learning Center is giving the volunteers the summer off and not having any classes until September.

Pat, what a wonderful passage of Scripture in Ephesians 6:10-17.

Papa John, Ria, Sonja, Nards, Jane I read your postings.

Pat - I am sorry that you need to buy a new lawn mower.  We have a gas mower, Norm seldom uses it though, as he has someone come and mow the lawn and do the trimming for him.  He sold his electric one, as he hated the cord getting tangled up and it slicing all the time.

Sure looks like we are in for a storm tonight.  We could use the rain thoug, its surprising how dry everything is, evem with all the rain we've had the past few weeks.

Our flower planting is all about finished now.  For someone who wasn't going to do much, it sure looks like a lot to me.  Every year Norm says he is going to cut back on purchasing annuals....every year I look at the bills and comment on how much he has spent...LOL

Seems like I have let this week slip away without accomplishing as much as I would like.  I do have all the laundry done up though, hopefully tomorrow some much needed cleaning will get done.

A friend of my daughter's., a young physician, passed away very suddenly this week.  He was only 51 yrs of age, and left three children.  I do believe he knew the Lord though.

Pat, I bought a new mower last month.  Our mower kept giving trouble so I gave it to my son-in-law and told him he might get it fixed up or sell it or whatever he wanted to do.  Anyway I got one of Sears best.  It has a six horse power engine and is self propelling.  I have a neighbor who mows the lawn for me and does an excellent job.  The least I can do is furnish a good mower.

Larry, you seem to stay busy all the time.  I use to be more active than I am now.  I'm not as strong as I used to be.

We are getting ready to go to our Wednesday night service.

Rom 12:1-5
1   Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God-- this is your spiritual act of worship.
2   Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-- his good, pleasing and perfect will.
3   For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.
4   Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function,
5   so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.  (NIV)

I am watching the procession of the casket of President Ronald Reagan.    Is anyone else watching?  Tonight will be the funeral and speeches from former Presidents and other dignitaries.

I saw Nancy Reagan get out of the car and watch the casket being put on the special wagon that took it to the Rotunda in the Capital.

Someone yelled out "God Bless you Nancy."   Yes, and I said in my heart "God Bless America"

Hi, friends,

My daughter and I both seem to have a penchant for working lots of overtime. Only problem - I work days and she works nights.

This afternoon, she called, "Mom, what are you doing tonight?"

"I imagine you may have plans for us, sweetie."

"Well, ummmmmm, let's call this Mother's Day! Will you go to dinner with me tonight?"

NUFF SAID - I'm off to a restaurant I've never eaten at before.

I was going to work on my PSP lessons but I got tied up watching the procession, That riderless horse brought the tears to my eyes mopre than anything else about this day. I was born the same day as Mr. Reagan.

We've been watching the Reagan ceremonies, too.  Poor Nancy looks ready to collapse.

We hit 104 degrees today with humidity over 80%!  ;D Of course that kind of weather breeds thunderstorms and the whole area is under severe storm watch until 10:00 p.m.  but the radar shots on TV look like most of it will go right around us.

Well, my friend came to load my old lawnmower into the back of her van and head off to Home Depot.

When we got there, we found that the "special" offer was only effective in May and was no longer in effect.   The special offer was that if you brought in your old gas mower and bought an electric one, they'd give you something off the price of the electric depending on the price of the one you chose.

Well, my friend, Michelle and I really insisted telling them that our big store here in Guelph had almost refused to sell me a lawnmower last night due to the fact that the Home Depot had such a great offer on.

I told them that since my shoulder surgery, I just couldn't pull the gas lawn mower to start it.

Well, guess they got fed up with me so phoned the store manager!

He came up and maybe just to get rid of me, said that he'd let me take advantage of the offer and so they allowed me $50.00 for my gas mower and I bought a Black and Decker electric.  My old gas mower was bought second hand back in 1987 and didn't owe me anything so today was a good day!

Then I went to Nicolas Bell's home (his wife was who took me to Cambridge) and showed him how to upload photos onto his new website.

Nicolas has looked at Christian Photographers in the past days and decided to join.  He will only have time when he's not flying around the world as a flight attendant.

So, please welcome Nicolas.  He's a very, very good friend of mine.  He's certainly been a gift from God to me in the past few years.

A good friend of mine on SeniorNet sent this to me in an email.

A LIVING BIBLE
(Author Unknown)

His name is Bill.  He has wild hair, wears a T-shirt with holes in it, jeans and no shoes.  This is literally his wardrobe for his entire four years of college.  He is brilliant, kind of esoteric and very, very bright.

He becomes a Christian while attending College.  Across the street from the campus is a well-dressed, very conservative Church. They want to develop a ministry to students, but are not sure how to go about it.  One day Bill decides to go there.  He walks in with no shoes, jeans, his T-shirt and wild hair.

The service has already started and so Bill starts down the
aisle looking for a seat. The Church is completely packed and he can't find a seat. By now, people are really looking a bit uncomfortable, but no one says anything.

Bill gets closer and closer to the pulpit and when he realizes there are no seats, he just squats down right on the carpet.  (Although perfectly acceptable behavior at a college fellowship, trust me, this has never happened in this Church before!) By now the people are really uptight and the tension in the air is thick.

About this time, the Minister realizes that from way at the back of the Church, a Deacon is making his way toward Bill.  Now the Deacon is in his eighties and has silver-gray hair, and wears a three-piece suit.  He is a godly man, very elegant, very dignified, very courtly.  He walks with a cane and as he starts walking toward the boy, everyone is saying to themselves that you can't blame him for what he's going to do.  How can you expect a man of his age and of his background to understand some college kid on the floor?

It takes a long time for the man to reach the boy.  The Church is utterly silent except for the clicking of the man's cane.  All eyes are focused on him.  You can't even hear anyone breathing.  The Minister can't even preach the sermon until the Deacon does what he has to do.

And now they see this elderly man drop his cane on the floor.  With great difficulty, he lowers himself and sits down next to Bill and worships with him so he won't be alone.

Everyone chokes up with emotion.  When the Minister gains control, he says, "What I'm about to preach, you will never remember.  What you have just seen, you will never forget. Be careful how you live.  You may be the only Bible some people will ever read!"

I asked the Lord to bless you as I prayed for you today, to guide you and protect you as you go along your way.  His love is always with you, His promises are true, and when we give Him all our cares, you know He'll see us through.

Often during the day, I might be heard humming a hymn or trying to sing it.  Many times when Jack used to preach, he'd request that I go along and sing and this was the hymn that he requested most often.

I do hope and pray that it will be a blessing to you as well as you read the words carefully and appreciate what the Lord has done for us.

Not what these hands have done
Can save this guilty soul;
Not what this toiling flesh has borne
Can make my spirit whole.

Chorus:
Thy work alone, my Saviour,
Can ease this weight of sin;
Thy blood alone, O Lamb of God,
Can give me peace within.

Not what I feel or do
Can give me peace with God;
Nor all my prayers, or sighs, or tears
Can bear my awful load.

Thy love to me, O God,
Not mine, O Lord, to Thee,
Can rid me of this dark unrest,
And set my spirit free.

No other work save Thine,
No meaner blood will do,
No strength, save that which is Divine,
Can bear me safely through.

I praise the God of grace,
I trust His love and might;
He calls me His, I call Him mine,
My God, My joy, my light.

Thank you Pat for the music.   I am happy to hear you got a good deal on your electric mower.  They were saying that the electric ones are better for the environment.  I guess you have to watch the long extension cord that you don't run over it.

It has rained here and cooled everything off.   Thank the Lord.

I'm watching CNN for more coverage of the Reagan ceremony.  I was touched by Nancy when she was rubbing her hand over the casket.  It seemed like she didn't want to leave it.  She has been a good and loving wife for many years.

Welcome Nicholas to CP.  You will enjoy it here.

Well I have to go to work early tomorrow.   God Bless

Love Ruthie

I was walking along a road yesterday, beside a planter full of impatiens (sp), and was startled by a hummingbird. It looked much like the one in the welcome to Nicholas.  My what you see when the camera is not at hand.  I will try and see if I can get a picture of one but you know what happens with the best laid plans!

That is a beautiful hymn Pat.

Welcome Nicholas.  Take your camera and see if you can take pictures of the places you fly to!

Blessings to all

If you click on the link (which isn't easy to see in my post), you'll see many photos that Nicolas took in India last week of the Taj Mahol (sp?).

WOW!

Tomorrow is going to be a busy day.  Getting ready for a vacation (I won't be here for a couple of weeks).  I am looking forward to getting away but at the same time am already dreading my return to work.

Talk to everyone another day!

Thank you for that hymn, Pat.  It's definitely one of my favorites.  That's different music to it, but the words are what matter.  I too am glad you got the new, discounted mower.  Now it you could just get someone to mow for you!
The leg is slightly better, swelling heading downward slowly.  It's the first encouragement I've had on it, so I definitely thank our Lord.

Al, I'm so very happy to read that your leg is a bit better.  Praise the Lord for that news!

Now, it's time to lock the door.

Talk to you all tomorrow.
