Morning Devotional...

Pastoral Ministry: Sheep Are Led

Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord our Maker. For he is our God, and we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand.
--Psalm 95:6-7

Cattle are driven; sheep are led; and our Lord compares His people to
sheep, not to cattle.

It is especially important that Christian ministers know the law of the leader--that he can lead others only as far as he himself has gone....

The minister must experience what he would teach or he will find himself in the impossible position of trying to drive sheep. For this reason he should seek to cultivate his own heart before he attempts to preach to the hearts of others....

If he tries to bring them into a heart knowledge of truth which he has not actually experienced he will surely fail. In his frustration he may attempt to drive them; and scarcely anything is so disheartening as the sight of a vexed and confused shepherd using the lash on his bewildered flock in a vain attempt to persuade them to go on beyond the point to which he himself has attained....

The law of the leader tells us who are preachers that it is better to cultivate our souls than our voices. It is better to polish our hearts than our pulpit manners, though if the first has been done well and successfully it may be profitable for us to do the second. We cannot take our people beyond where we ourselves have been, and it thus becomes vitally important that we be men of God in the last and highest sense of that term.
The Price of Neglect, 151-153.

"Lord, today let me stop, step off the busy treadmill, and look to the condition of my soul. Help me to listen to You and be spiritually nurtured, to have my soul cultivated by You in silence and solitude. Amen."

Thanks, Pat!  So very important for us to remember and quiet our souls with the Lord.

Thanks Pat for this beautiful devotional. It reminds  us of who the sheppard is and that he is the one to follow. It reminds me of the many times when I was a young boy in Scotland when in the country and seeing the Farmers  (sheppards) leeding there sheep to pastures.

Chris.  You asked where I am from. Come from the west end of Glasgow.  Kelvinbridge in 19-65.

May all have a wonderful day in the Lord.

Good morning!  I am going to work out later today.  Abby has been begging to make Monkey Bread all week, so we have some in the oven, and after we eat, we will go swim.  I haven't spent as much time with her (meaning doing things she wants to do!) as she likes, so today is mostly hers.

Jeanne, when Darrel went to Promise Keepers, he said he loved everything except the volume of the music.  He said he could literally FEEL the soundwaves hitting his face!  But the young men (late teens and 20s) loved the music!  Go figure.

I have experienced a pastor who tried to drive the flock---ended up destroying the church.  :(  Sad.

Darrel says the monkey bread looks done, better go check on it!

I suppose it a good thing that I'm a sheep and not a sheppard. Once again...we see that God knows what he's doing!  Peace, Ritz.

How true that devotional is!  May our God help me to first be His child, then His minister.  It is easy for a while to drift along without cultivating relationship with our Lord, but it just makes the need deeper in the long run.  Oh Lord, revive Your work in me!

Good Morning> Yes it is me I am back up again. This time it was time for me to get up.

Today the Maintenance man is coming before I go to work to take out the heater fan so he buy my a new one, measure for my new shower and put on my screen door. I think I  persisted just enough to get these things done that were promised to me in September when I moved in. It's about time right?

I went to the chiropractor yesterday for an adjustment, I hadn't been in almost a year. Gotta go back next week.

Today I have to take Joanne to the foot clinic at the Indian Health Center and tonight is Bible Sutdy. I wish I could have stayed in bed and slept a litle bit.

Gilbert called last night to tell me that they will be at Mount Shasta until thursday. That is an answer to prayer, this is the first time he has called to tell me he would be away before I started to worry where they were. Thank you Jesus.

Rats!  I hit close instead of post, and lost the whole thing.  My bad....... :-[

Abby and I swam and swam and swam...........after I had worked out on the treadmill, doing cross country.  That's okay, because it gives me 6 1/4 miles to count on my Walk Kansas team.  The goal is to walk across Kansas (equivalent miles) in 8 weeks.  That is 423 miles.

She has been begging to have a picnic all week, so I let her pack a picnic lunch, and take everything upstairs and lay it out on the floor.  When she had everything all set, she came and got me.  We had a lovely meal.  We had......drum roll, please.... ;)  peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, peaches, grapes, baby carrots, kiwis, and corn chips and salsa.  I had water and she had Power Ade.  At least most was healthy food, right?  :P     We are building memories.

It's pretty chilly and terribly windy here today.  A person can barely stand up outdoors (thus the indoor picnic.)  I surely wish we could get some moisture here.

Hi everyone.

A much cooler day here in Georgia but very sunny and pleasant. I have continued to work on my desktop and finally got my TV card operating after removing two of the card from the motherboard and switching their locations.  I think I about have everything installed that I want for the moment.  I spent a good part of the day so far backing up Pat's computer documents to my big hard drive and am now starting the process of burning CDs with some of the files she has that she seldom refers to and can do that from the CDs as well as the hard disk.  I will then remove these files from her computer as she is running out of hard disk space.  We tried to run defrag on it yesterday and there wasn't enough free space.

Tonight I have choir practice and am looking forward to it as we continue to prepare our special Easter music.

Last evening, while searching for information on why my TV card wouldn't install, I ran across a website that has a software based TV that plays on your computer.  You would need a highspeed Internet Connection and it doesn't have many of the mainline stations but has stations from all over the world, including Canada and many other countries.  I can get C-span (which I enjoy on the weekends) and a number of Christian stations like TBN.  These were live broadcasts as I checked them out on the Cable and there was just a few seconds difference.  I watched John Hagee and then the Gaither's in Toronto.  Here is the link if you want to try this free program:

Papa John, so glad to read that Corneilia continues to improve a bit each day.  I am sure she will enjoy being able to have her lift chair right by you.  I am praying for her continued improvement in the days and weeks ahead.

Marilyn, hope you got the work done on your house.  It sounds like you finally got some good sleep--sure hope so anyway.

Pat, what an excellent devotional.  You cannot teach if you don't know.  Hope you are enjoying your company.

Janet, I am sure you are building wonderful memories for Abby as you make each visit special.  Wow, over 400 miles in 8 weeks it really a lot.  I am doing well now to get .25 miles on my treadmill and some days don't feel like walking on it at all.

Good to see everyone posting.

Larry, that Easy TV program is neat.  There are several Christian channels as you said.  I don't have cable tv,  so this is neat.  I like Calvary Chapel.   I'll have to try channels from other countries too.

Janet, building memories is so great.  Abby is storing all this in her heart and it'll never go away.

Larry, thanks so much for that EasyTV link.  Since I had to cut back my cable coverage to "basic" I haven't been able to get TBN and I've really missed it.  This is great!

Pat: Thanks for the devotional today.

We woke this morning with snow every where and high winds all day. The little town to the west of us was without hydro for a spell although we were fine.

Janet thanks for your encouraging coments.

Papa John:  I can almost see you and Corneilia sitting side by side.  :whisper:

Marilyn:  When you wake up in the night try to keep a blank mind as that makes it easier to go back to sleep. Even I have trouble with that one, a clear mind I mean.

At the church we should attend the music  is way way to loud and when we did say something. The look could almost kill.

My alterations are done and I must say that I enjoyed doing them, it warmed the heart to be able to do something for my son.

I must move on as I would like to put in another photo and then I have some other typing to get done as well.

Ruth

That Easy TV link is good for me too, I  don't get TBN or any other church channels, I  will be nice to watch TBN again.

Thank Larry.

I am not going to Bible Study tonight, I am just worn out and falling asleep as I just sit and do nothing. So I am going to bed  real soon.

I JUST SAW A PICTURE OF PAPA JOHN AND CORNELIA.  Sorry to be yelling, but I did see it.  They are in their side by side recliners.   I saw them in the pictures in SN.  I'm sure it'll be posting here. :) :)

That's great to hear about papa John's photos of him and Cornelia, Nita.  I'll look forward to seeing it.

When you hooked up the Easy TV, did you choose Real Player or Windows Player?
