Morning Devotional...

Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man.
Ps.  108:12

Trouble is mentioned more in the book of Psalms than any other in the Bible.

King David reminds us in this particular psalm that when trouble comes, we should look to the Lord for help rather than man.

The agencies of government and other charitable organizations may have their place, but the ultimate resource is our heavenly Provider: "a very present help in trouble" (46:1).

Man may be unavailable or unable to help, or simply disinterested in our problems; but the God of the universe has time for His own. Is today a time of trouble for you? "Call upon Me in the day of trouble" (50:15).

He will meet your need.
--Wm. Gustafson

O God, our help in ages past,
our hope for years to come;
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
and our eternal home.

Hello everyone,  I trust you have all had a good day.

We went to be with hubby's sister in the nursing home again today, as we do almost every day.  Sometimes twice.  She is about 12 miles away from us.  She is 94 and is in such poor condition now.  She is very confused, and has been having nausea quite a lot.  We try to encourage her, but she is so hard of hearing, and in a confused state.  We just hope some of what we try to do is getting through to her.  She is sick and we feel like her life is slowly ebbing away.

But through it all, Christ Jesus remains the same!

I am tired and sleepy.  Guess I best go to bed, we have to get up early as we are going to take the AARP/55Alive course the next two days, 8:00 AM to noon.  I don't exactly look forward to that – sitting a long time is not easy to do.

Hasta Manana, y'all.  God be with you till we meet again!
Love,  Janice

The Senior Citizens have, in God's providence, a kind of priority.  They are in the outer chamber waiting for the final entry into the Kingdom. That should be a cause of peace, a cause of joy; one day forward, one step nearer.

Is this too rosy a picture of what life is like, or should be like? After all, our energy and our strength today is not what it was yesterday.  There are problems and there are aches and pains which we did not know in the afternoon of our lives. At such times, it is only by looking at Christ crucified on the Cross that we can ever make sense of what befalls us.  When asked to share those sufferings we should accept it as a gift.  All pain is mysteriously also a gift from God because pain can purify and prepare us for the vision of Him whose love is stronger than the strongest love of a woman for her child, or a lover for the beloved.

"Lord, I'm coming Home."

PAPA JOHN nice to see you you are in my prayers every day have a nice time in Florida.

JANET yes i am thinking about the same thing as you and i am still not out. Love your enemies
how far must we go and how far can we go.
In the normal life is that for me not such a problem then i can say i forgive you. And then i also talk never more about what has been. Our pastor it was a good sermon but he also has not give the answer but he say think about that. Yesterday i have writen about that problem  but i am still not out. But i think it is for every own love your enemies a problem. How can we love the people who are doing such bad things.
Every day in my prayers i ask God or he will open the eyes from people who are doing such bad things and i pray for this world wich is in great distress.

JudyB i am sorry to read that you are fallen i am hoping that you have today not such a lot pain.Yes i was sleepless this night you have seen that i was online but Ko was so snoring i am going downstairs :o

This afternoon i am going to the nursing home 2 -2 1/2 hours. There are such a lot people there is never
someone coming and also are the people light demented they also are happy when there someone
is coming. My own mother was after she have had 2 strokes also light demented but what was she happy
when there someone was coming. My fahter has every day going to here and i also a lot but also in that time
i have talk with a lot other people when they are alone.

My husband must now to a hospital in the city
in the hospital where he has been they can not help him.
Also my first husband was very snoring when he has problems
with is heart.  That is also being his death. So we have new sorrows. That is also a reason that i go do a little bit work so that i not the hole day are thinking.

Help me, Lord, to reassure and strengthen
Others by what I speak today;
I would always try to be affirming,
As I meet with friends along the way.

Boy we are a quiet lot today.

Pat thankyou for that link about the missionaries, it is sad that there is such little value put on life over there.  God knows and understands. This too will be turned around for His Glory.

Very sore today.  Lots of bruising.  The worst is the headaches.  This is going to take time to heal I think.

Well I need to move to a more comfortable chair.

Love to all

Janice I received this in my mail today, and thought of your hubby's sister.

Old Barn

A stranger came by the other day with an offer that set me to thinking.   He wanted to buy the old barn that sits out by the highway. I told him right off he was crazy. He was a city type, you could tell by his clothes, his car, his hands, and the way he talked. He said he was driving by and saw that beautiful barn sitting out in the tall grass and wanted to know if it was for sale. I told him he had a funny idea of beauty.

Sure, it was a handsome building in its day. But then, there's been a lot of winters pass with their snow and ice and howling wind. The summer sun's beat down on that old barn till all the paint's gone, and the wood has turned silver gray. Now the old building leans a good deal, looking kind of tired. Yet, that fellow called it beautiful.

That set me to thinking. I walked out to the field and just stood there, gazing at that old barn. The stranger said he planned to use the lumber to line the walls of his den in a new country home he's building down the road. He said you couldn't get paint that beautiful. Only years of standing in the weather, bearing the storms and corching sun, only that can produce beautiful barn wood.

It came to me then. We're a lot like that, you and I. Only it's on the inside that the beauty grows with us. Sure we turn silver gray too. and lean a bit more than we did when we were young and full of sap. But the Good Lord knows what He's doing. And as the years pass He's busy using the hard wealth of our lives, the dry spells and the stormy seasons, to do a job of beautifying our souls that nothing else can produce. And to think how often folks holler because they want life easy!

They took the old barn down today and hauled it away to beautify a rich man's house. And I reckon someday you and I'll be hauled off to Heaven to take on whatever chores the Good Lord has for us on the Great Sky Ranch.

And I suspect we'll be more beautiful then for the seasons we've been through here ... and just maybe even add a bit of beauty to our Father's house.

One day she will beautify our Fathers house don't you think?

Judy B., sorry about your fall.  But I'm glad it isn't worse.  Several years ago Cornelia slipped on the ice and broke her shoulder.  It took about a year for her to get over it.

Ria, I thank you for your prayers.

Pat, it is so sad to read about the missionaries being killed in Iraq.

Jenny, Christian Senior Citizens ARE at a special time in their lives.  There is an old hymn "It Won't be Very Long."  It has a special meaning to us today.

Rev 22:20-21
20   He who testifies to these things says, "Surely I am coming quickly." Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!
21   The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

Pastoral Ministry: Spiritual Discernment

Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your
people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to
judge this great people of Yours?
--1 Samuel 3:9

That so-called Bible religion in our times is suffering rapid
decline is so evident as to need no proof, but just what has brought
about this decline is not so easy to discover. I can only say that I
have observed one significant lack among evangelical Christians
which might turn out to be the real cause of most of our spiritual
troubles. Of course, if that were true, then the supplying of that
lack would be our most critical need.

The great deficiency to which I refer is the lack of spiritual
discernment, especially among our leaders. How there can be so much
Bible knowledge and so little insight, so little moral penetration,
is one of the enigmas of the religious world today....

If not the greatest need, then surely one of the greatest is for
the appearance of Christian leaders with prophetic vision. We
desperately need seers who can see through the mist. Unless they
come soon, it will be too late for this generation. And if they do
come, we will no doubt crucify a few of them in the name of our
worldly orthodoxy. But the cross is always the harbinger of the
resurrection.  We Travel an Appointed Way, 111-112.

"Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your
people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to
judge this great people of Yours? Amen."

In Indiana, and I am sure elsewhere as well, the weathermen predict the weather.  Seems they talk the loudest when it is bad weather.  Also it seems they aren't right half the time.  So yesterday it was predicted that we were to get 6" of snow!  After all this mild weather and springlike temperatures, SNOW????

Well, this time the weathermen were right.  Maybe not 6" of snow yet but it is still snowing and everything is pure white...well, all but my paved driveway...it is melting there.  It is only 27° so a nice temperature for snow.

Janet ~ Thanks for the comment on the Easter Pageant.  I want to visit the site and see if I can purchase a video of the Pageant.  I would like that.

Tonight is our small groups Bible study!  I told Jerry earlier that I just wasn't into driving in this snow.  Maybe they will call and say it is cancelled.  I have mixed feelings....

Jerry asked me to read Richard Innes' Daily Encounter.  Today it is on 'The Passion of the Christ' movie.  Jerry and I, both, thought it was interesting reading....

WHO KILLED JESUS?

"He [Jesus Christ] was despised and rejected by men, a man
of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom
men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him
not. Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our
sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by
him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our
transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the
punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his
wounds we are healed" (Isaiah 53:3-5, NIV).

Many readers would have seen the Mel Gibson movie, The
Passion of the Christ. Many have raved about this movie.
Many have sharply criticized it claiming that it blames the
Jews for crucifying Jesus and as a result, will stir up
renewed anti-Semitism. Others claim that it is far too
violent.

Yes, I have seen the movie. Yes it is violent. And yes, it
does appear that the Jews were responsible for the death of
Jesus and yet it was the Romans that violently beat and
crucified him. (See Friday's Daily Encounter for a medical
doctor's description of the unbelievable brutality of Roman
crucifixions.)

No matter how violent or how brutal the physical torture of
Christ, as gruesome as that was, no movie, no painting, no
book, no article, or no sermon could ever depict the far
greater suffering of the Christ when he, the holy and
divine Son of God, took upon himself the sin of all mankind
and who, while hanging on that cross, was forsaken by God
the Heavenly Father. As humans we cannot even begin to
imagine the depth of this pain and suffering that Jesus
Christ endured to pay the penalty of our sins--and to save
us from a lost eternity in hell.

The fact is that Jesus gave his life willingly. No Jew,
Roman, or anyone else could take his life from him. He was
the Son of God. He could have called on ten thousand angels
to save him. But he didn't because he was giving his life
as a ransom for your sins and mine. The Jews of his day and
the Romans were only the instruments of his torturous
death. It was for your sins and mine that he gave his life
and suffered such intense agony.

As God's Word says, "But he was pierced for our
transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the
punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his
wounds we are healed."

Because of Christ's death for us, God now offers you and me
a total pardon for all our sins and the gift of eternal
life. So the crucial issue is NOT who killed the Christ,
but have you accepted God's full and free pardon and the
gift of eternal life? To help you do this, be sure to read
the article in [2] below: "How to Be Sure You're a Real
Christian" (Christ-one).

Suggested prayer: "Dear God, how can I ever thank you
enough for giving your Son, the Christ, to die for my sins?
And Lord Jesus how can I ever thank you enough for
suffering such an agonizing death to pay the penalty for
all my sins? Lord I believe. Have mercy on me, a sinner,
and save me. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer.
Gratefully, in Jesus' name, amen."

P.S. Again ... be sure to read the article in [2] below:

Janet, you have an awesome talent with your painting.  Those paintings are awesome!

Good morning folks and afternoon Ria and Jenny!

How are you all doing today?  Is the weather fairing you right?  ;D Mainly asking Jeanne Lee.

Zachery has a dr. appointment this morning.

Lila Mae fell off her bed last night.  Thank goodness it is just a few inches off the floor and I didn't get much sleep.  <sigh> ::) I think I will take a nap today.

Great devotion, Pat.  We should turn to God with our problems and not man.  Well said!  Now if I can just remember that I will do ok.  ;) :D

afternoon, JudyB.  I agree it is pretty quiet in here.  I wonder if anyone is taking a nap.  I know i need to.

Zachery went to the doctor this morning and good news.  His bloodtest levels were the best they were since last April.  woohoo...the prayers are being answered.  The doctor is going to keep a real close eye on him still to make sure he stays healthy, so that means more lab work and stuff like that.

I am off to deliver papers with the boys.

Who can cheer the heart like Jesus,
By His presence all divine?
True and tender, pure and precious,
O how blest to call Him mine!

Chorus:
All that thrills my soul is Jesus;
He is more than life to me;
And the fairest of ten thousand,
In my blessed Lord I see.

Love of Christ so freely given.
Grace of God beyond degree,
Mercy higher than the heaven,
Deeper then the deepest sea.

What a wonderful redemption!
Never can a mortal know
How my sin, tho' red like crimson,
Can be whiter than the snow.

Chorus

Every need His hand supplying,
Every good in Him I see;
On His strength divine relying,
He is all in all to me.

I sad/mad/frustrated.  My students came in today, and their mother asked me if I had heard about the missionaries in Iraq.  I told them I had seen the headline, but hadn't read it, yet.  Then, she told me they were Elliots and had worked in Honduras for like 20 years before going there and were doing well digging and stuff.  Three red flags went up.

On one of my trips to Honduras, I had the opportunity to be with Jean briefly.   I don't remember the particulars, now, but I do know they were good friends with the ones who organized the mission trips at my brother's church, and had been there to speak a couple of times.

I am not a happy camper.

It is so sad about the missionaries, I put the families and the two surviving ones on the prayer chain at church.

I had a nice surprise when  came home from work. Sarah is home on Spring break this week and she mowed my front yard. The G-kid are going tocome over to hang out with g-ma this afternoon.

Hi everyone.  Have had a very busy day and just now getting here to read the postings and devotional thoughts for today.  I had a meeting with the church ministers and staff concerning our website and then ate a bite of lunch and went to Calvin Cove to sing songs with the adult daycare folks.  Then I had to do some shopping and when I got home had some correspondence to attend to.

Certainly saddened to hear of the deaths of the missionaries and Karma it brings it all closer to home when someone we know personally knew one of them.  At least we can rest assured that they knew Jesus Christ as their personal savior and were doing what they wanted to do.

JudyB, certainly sorry to hear of your fall on the ice and hope you didn't get a concussion from it.  The headache doesn't sound too good.

Janet, we will certainly miss your postings while  you recoup.  Glad you will be able to read the postings anyway so we will know you are still there even if you must remain silent.

Sonja and Zachery, that is great news concerning the blood tests.  Still healthy.  These are the type of reports we all want to hear.

Marilyn, your meeting with Jane sounds great.  Will you be seeing Nita as well?

Etta Sue, I heard that Indiana was having a lot of snow today and that it was moving to New York.  We a sunny afternoon and it was about 70 today.  I love living in the south.

Janice, I am sure you will never regret the time you are able to spend with your husband's sister.  I know it is a strain but family is so important.  I agree with you on the 55 Alive driving course.  We took it about 2 years ago and it was a long 8 hours.  We didn't have a very good instructor but completing it does help on the cost of the car insurance and we need to be reminded of some of the material they cover.  I don't know whether I can get my wife to attend another one of these classes or not.

Ria, sorry to hear that your local hospita wasn't able to help your husband.  Maybe the larger hospital will be more help.  Your volunteering at the nursing home is a wonderful thing to do and I am sure you bring a ray of sunshine to many folks there.

Hi to Papa John, Al and Chris (and anyone else I may have missed addressing).

It's moving to New York, alright, Larry!  Only about 4 inches so far, but it's supposed to continue all night and into the morning.  "They" say our area can expect anywhere from 7 to 12 inches before it quits.  That's OK.  It adds to our water table and maybe there won't be as much drought come summer.  :D

Melaura is just checking our weather.  I isn't snowing here.  I hope it stays south of us.

John has called and will be in Nashville around noon tomorrow.  How I wish I coould have gone with him.

Melaura is up with me, I really enjoy her company.  She was having trouble with Math and we sat and figured it out, she caught on right away.

Well I am going to bed.  Still pretty sore.  Tyleonl and a drink should help.

Night all

wooHoo Marilyn is now the proud owner of PSP 8. Just installed it in my computer. Hey Pat Did you see my question about the PSP lessons?
And does the CD install the animation program as well when it installs. Or do I need to put the CD back in for that?

I wish I could send a little of our weather today to you people in the east.  Sunshine and warm here.  My wife and I just got back about an hour ago from the beach, where we walked around and watched the waves a bit.  It was wonderful.

Boy am I envious of you AL.

My favourite place even as a child has been on a beach, preferably ocean beach, watching the waves.

Interesting how opposites attract.  John's favourite place has been in the mountains.

Driving truck to San Fran then on to LA we had both loves satisfied.

Good night all

No one posted there answers so I guess you are the winner and Ms.Jenny comes in second.
Ms.Jenny got them right to but you got them in first!

Marilyn, I do believe that the animation program is installed too.  You go to File/Jasc Products/Launch Animation.....

The lessons are for six weeks and the Novice is not that too bad.  You can probably do 3 or 4 of the lessons on a Saturday or your day off and they wait at the end for you to catch up if you need to.

Right now, I'm a week behind and Rachelle is as well and our teacher is waiting for us to mark us.

It's great because it's free.

So, go and sign up.

No snow here!  Rain was forcast but we got sunshine instead.  The robins have arrived in the garden and hummingbirds should be along very soon.  They usually appear around St. Pat's day.

Lots of sad news today.  Our poor world is so in need of Jesus.  How can one say that it needs God when so many crimes are committed by those who profess to love God?  This must be a confusing time to people who do not know about Christ and salvation.  We have so much to pray about and so many who need prayer.  If only Christians would remember that we need to do more than simply love Christ.  We are supposed to live like Him.  Then the unsaved would start to take us seriously.

'nough said.  I must have a nasty test at the hospital in the morning and am a little 'testy' myself.  Enjoyed reading all the posts and now will go and have a look at the photo's and Janest's artwork.

God Bless.  Liz

We got maybe 2" of the white stuff today in Wayne, Mi.  Up by Flint, Mi no snow at all.

Don't have much to say today, just wanted you to know I'm still around.  I haven't frozen yet!

I would like to be w/Papa John who is waitin' for the pool to warm up.  A cold dip would do good to remind him of us frozen chosen.

I'll be thinking of you tomorrow, Liz.  Some of these tests sure can be nasty for sure.

Ed, great to see you.  Wondered where you were.  We're still getting the blowing and blowing here.  Not sure of how much we got.
