Sonja brought a verse to us yesterday and I'd really like to know what you suggest that this verse means.
Luke 9:23
Then he said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.
What does it mean to "deny himself"?

Morning Devotional...Lord, remember me. . . And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with Me in paradise. Luke 23:42-43
A young man careless of his soul's destiny said to a Christian friend, "I'm all right, thank you. You need not trouble yourself about me. I shall go in for enjoying life while it lasts, and then at the end, I'll get saved by believing on the Lord Jesus--like the dying thief, you know."
"I see," replied his friend, "but when the end comes, which dying thief will you be like? There were two of them, you remember."
Don't delay--come to Christ today!

There is life at this moment for thee.
Then look, sinner, look unto Him and be saved,
Unto Him who was nailed to the tree.

Hi everyone. It is another bright and sunny day here in Georgia and spring is really in full bloom. If I have time later today I will post a few photos I took of the blooming bradford pear trees. They are now losing their blossoms as the leaves bud out.
Ria, I hope you weren't hurt when you fell off the couch.
Soni, hope the dance program goes well and that your daughter has a great time. It is nice that she isn't nervous about performing. Also glad to read that you didn't have a virus.
Well it is time to go for coffee at the cafe and then I have a very busy day. I got new software to try to layout the room and bathroom we are thinking of building onto our house for our daughter. I have lined up three contractors to come and talk with us about it and am looking into the financing of the project. Learning this new software is going to take sometime. I also need to get the webpage done for our homeowner's association so know I am not going to have many spare moments today.
Pat, fine devotional thoughts this morning.
Good Morning Everyone...
It's a grey day here in Guelph but it's supposed to brighten up a little later and that will certainly be very welcome.
Nice to see you here. Is the coffee still hot? I think I'll have a cup and sit back and read the messages.
I think we should have some music though. I'll go and get some...
Such lovely words.....

I have stretched out my hands unto Thee.
Psalm 88:9
Words: Charles Wesley, Psalms and Hymns, 1741
Music: "Naomi," Hans G. Nägeli; arranged by Lowell Mason, 1836
Father, I stretch my hands to Thee,
No other help I know;
If Thou withdraw Thyself from me,
Ah! whither shall I go?
What did Thine only Son endure,
Before I drew my breath!
What pain, what labor, to secure
My soul from endless death!
Surely Thou canst not let me die;
O speak, and I shall live;
And here I will unwearied lie,
Till Thou Thy Spirit give.
Author of faith! to Thee I lift
My weary, longing eyes:
O let me now receive that gift!
My soul without it dies.

Good morning~!!
I don't like coffee, but I'll take a glass of milk or OJ if anyone has any! ;D
deny himself -- What I've always believed is that you put your "human" desires/wants/plans aside to follow God's. I may want to stay in bed and rest, but He may want me to get up and pray. To deny myself would be to go ahead and get up. It could also mean that I make a plan for my life (without consulting God, or before I am a Christian), then God lets me know there is something else for me. I reject my plans and follow His.
I guess that is probably oversimplified, but that is the way I see it.
Others?
I have had this Ray Boltz song runnung through my mind over the last two days. It has been a blessing.
Pat can you come up with the music?
i have journeyed
through the long dark night
out on the open sea
by faith alone
sight unknown
and yet his eyes were watching me
CHORUS
the anchor holds
though the ship is battered
the anchor holds
though the sails are torn
i have fallen on my knees
as i faced the raging seas
the anchor holds
in spite of the storm
i've had visions
i've had dreams
i've even held them in my hand
but i never knew
they would slip right through
like they were only grains of sand
CHORUS
i have been young
but i am older now
and there has been beauty these eyes have seen
but it was in the night
through the storms of my life
ohh thats where God proved his love to me
Good morning, friends,
Today will wrap up the involvement with my son's old house. We're going to clean out the shed at the back of the property. I'm certain it will be another day of decisions and nostalgia, so want to be with him to be of support.
It's so great to hear Janet's news about Beth's disability. Thank God for answers to prayer.
I miss some of our regulars, and have been so busy I've not even been able to "meet" our new family members. Welcome to each of you. May God's richest blessings be with you at all times, and I trust you'll learn to love and appreciate this band of Christians, diverse in faiths and cultures, but firmly united in our belief in God and his son Jesus, our Saviour.
The business trip went well this week and, fortunately, God had given me some insight into how to plan for the meeting. There were 3 separate instances where when the chair of the meeting asked that I consider scheduling certain work, I was able to show not only that the work is nearly complete but also that the capabilities to train the parties in use of this new data review tool are already there. I've already used the training facilities and the training manual I wrote a few months back.
Y'all have a good weekend.
Love in Him,
Ruth Ann
Thanks

O, the Anchor holds, in spite of the storm.
Now I have been young, but I am older now.
O and there has been beauty these eyes have seen;
But it was in the night, when I faced the storms of my life.
Oh, that's where God proved His love to me.

The Anchor holds, though the sails are torn.
I have fallen, fallen down on my knees

as I faced the raging seas;
But the Anchor holds, in spite of the storm.

QuoteLuke 9:23

In my understanding of this verse, it means to set aside those things in your life that are your idols. ie. that extra sleep when you should be up praying and reading your Bible. Those fast food meals, the extra serving of desert, using your credit card and making debts. Sitting on the couch watching TV for hours on end, watching soap operas, gossiping, etc. Giving up these idols and get busy serving the Lord.
To follow Him means, being faithful in your Bible reading, prayers, tithes, following the commandments, doing something in your local church, visiting the elders ( the older people), contributing to your church food closet, giving soneone a ride to church, calling on those you haven't seen in church for awhile either in person or on the phone. etc.[/b]
Good Morning to one and all.

Pastoral Ministry: Some New Mystery Bagged
For all the Athenians and the foreigners who were there spent their
time in nothing else but either to tell or to hear some new thing.
--Acts 17:21
The temptation to forget the few spiritual essentials and to go
wandering off after unimportant things is very strong, especially
to Christians of a certain curious type of mind. Such persons find
the great majors of the faith of our fathers altogether too tame
for them. Their souls loathe that light bread; their appetites
crave the gamy tang of fresh-killed meat. They take great pride in
their reputation as being mighty hunters before the Lord, and any
time we look out we may see them returning from the chase with some
new mystery hanging limply over their shoulder.
Usually the game they bring down is something on which there is a
biblical closed season. Some vague hint in the Scriptures, some
obscure verse about which the translators disagree, some marginal
note for which there is not much scholarly authority: these are
their favorite meat. They are especially skillful at propounding
notions which have never been a part of the Christian heritage of
truth. Their enthusiasm mounts with the uncertainty of their
position, and their dogmatism grows firmer in proportion to the
mystery which surrounds their subject. The Next Chapter After the
Last, 12-13.
"Lord, keep me faithful to Your Word, give me understanding of the
unfathomable truths contained therein, but deliver me from that
danger of seeking some new insight to enhance my reputation as some
kind of brilliant scholar. Amen."
Thanks Pat for letting us know about the website. I am hoping that is the reason I couldn't navigate on here earlier and some profile photos were red x's...even my own. But I kinda doubt it was the reason I couldn't get into SrNet or into my jigsaw puzzles... ::) I kept getting Page Not Found and No Action on site!!!QuoteLuke 9:23
Then he said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.
What does it mean to "deny himself"?
The words 'deny himself' is also in Leviticus 23:26-32. Leviticus 23
Day of Atonement
26 The LORD said to Moses, 27 "The tenth day of this seventh month is the Day of Atonement. Hold a sacred assembly and
deny yourselves, [1] and present an offering made to the LORD by fire. 28 Do no work on that day, because it is the Day of Atonement, when atonement is made for you before the LORD your God. 29 Anyone who does not
deny himself on that day must be cut off from his people. 30 I will destroy from among his people anyone who does any work on that day. 31 You shall do no work at all. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come, wherever you live. 32 It is a sabbath of rest for you, and you must
deny yourselves. From the evening of the ninth day of the month until the following evening you are to observe your sabbath." (NIV)
Footnotes
23:27 Or and fast ; also in verses 29 and 32
In the Contemporary English Version, it isLeviticus 23
27The tenth day of the seventh month [1] is the Great Day of Forgiveness. [2] It is a solemn day of worship; everyone must go without eating to show sorrow for their sins, and sacrifices must be burned.
But it was interesting what the World English version says Luke 9
23 And He said to all the people, `If anyone wants to come with me, he must leave what he himself wants to do. Every day he must take up his cross [be ready to die] and come with me.
I think 'giving up your will for His will is the answer.
Fast Eddie ~ Your information about virus' and cookies are great. I bought Norton Antivirus AND Norton Antispam in January when I got Windows xp and a new compressor. One way that I knew there was a virus in my new computer was I got an Undelivered email notice and it was sent to someone I didn't know at all. I updated and ran Norton. No virus'. My step-grandson that built my compressor said to download 'adaware' and run it. It found 78 potential virus' on my pc!!!!! I either deleted them or isolated them and all was fine. This morning I recieved my email about "God's Promise's" and it was about suffering. Something to the effect that we suffer for Jesus Christ - and it is a blessing from God.
I hope this brings hope and joy to you all.

Hi Everyone..
Today is a cold saturday where i live--windy and cold and looks like were going to have storms-Its sunny out so the kids want to go out to play-Zachary is still having problems with his ears-we had to take him back today and get him checked again and He still has an ear infection...He is mad at Mommy because I don't want him outside with this infection-He doesn't understand..the dr. said his ear is still puffy and the tube from his ear is swollen and clogged. Anyway hopefully we can get this over soon. Today I want to make a few cards and then do some cleaning..I hope that all of you have a beautiful day.
Rachelle
I couldn't get in for the longest time. I posted a note in the CPyahoo group, then Al called me and gave me the new URL. So here I am.
TTYL
Well, thank you Pat for all your work in making CP operate in the efficient way it does. Change always takes a little time and patience and I'm sure we can move along with these changes.
We have had a quiet day here on the West coast of Florida. It is another beautiful day with temperature in the low 80's and just enough breeze to make it pleasant. I like to stand on the beach and look out to sea and think about the beauty of the earth and God's creation.
I look at the waves which are blown by the wind moving this way and that. And I think of how we must trust in God and pray to him with faith believing that God is there and he cares and that he answers our prayers.
James 1:5-7 If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.[/u][/b] That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; (NIV)
It is good to see each one today. Ria, I enjoy your poetry and Bible verses.
Tomorrow is the Lord's day. I look forward to the worship and the fellowship. The congregation where we worship here is so friendly and happy to see us each year.

Hi Everyone!
Wow! Isn't it good to have everyone here?
I'm just so "jazzed" (Soni's word) at having the friendship of Oldiesmann who was so kind to do this for me today.
Of all days to have company! I had company just as Michael started and then we went out for lunch and I forgot something so came rushing home to get the forgotten item and thought, "I'll check CP!" Found a "Page Not Found" error.
"Oh, no!" I thought that something had gone terribly wrong and then I remembered about the new URL.
So, I quickly wrote that letter to you all and then had to leave again. I'm so glad that you are finding your way in here with all the turmoil.
I'm so happy to see some old friends too!
Itsbygrace, great to see you checking in and Ken from Yorkshire, England, it's just fantastic to see you here.
Now, there will be so many things to learn about this new software. I have a completely different control panel as well. And links on the main website to the forums all have to be changed and I have to get our little Rebecca up that at the top of the page again too.
It will all take tiime and tomorrow I'm busy as well so a little bit each day will get us all set up.
Please everyone thank Oldiesmann for the great job. He was a wonderful help to me today. Click on his name and send him a message of thanks if you feel like it.
Now, I have to run and let the dog in. He's barking at a squirrel he's corner up the apple tree.
I think we have lots to praise God for, don't you?

Disc Clean-up: I erred yesterday on the steps to clean up cookies in your Temporary Internet Files.
On the Start Menu, go to Programs, to accessories, system tools and then disc clean-up.
Sorry for omitting one crucial step.
Your Windows program may also have something to clean up cookies also.

Sarah
Thanks for that info, Eddie.
Hi Sarah glad you are able to get on now.
I have been here for a while and really love the new look! I emailed my thanks to oldiesmann, but I want to say a big THANKS to PAT as well, for all the work you do here and elsewhere. I really appreciate it--and you!
I received some email from and about Bryan yesterday and posted it in the Prayer forum. He needs a lot of prayer these days and I hope you will remember him. His mom says he is miserable and pretty depressed. He is such a young soldier trying to be so brave. :-\
I am not feeling too well today, and I have to get my act together for church tomorrow, so maybe I'll just fix some hot tea and stoke the fire and watch some TV or something. See y'all later.
Hello everybody!!! Good evening, I guess. :D
Hi everybody
Pat thanks for putting the Ray Boltz song on. He is one of my favourite singers along with Carman and M.W. Smith.
Had a great afternoon today. Went to Mother's and had a good time watching skating. Marilyn Did you see the German Mens skater? Awesome wasn't he!
Well it is late. Will be back tomorrow. Going to bed
Night all

Hi Everyone:
I have been on a hike, pancake breakfast in the bush and later on a sing song and chilli dinner with a group from North of 40 today.
Time for bed. All that walking has me tired. Talk to you tomorrow.
Love Ruthie
Well, after this big day, it's time to lock the door.
Hope we see you all tomorrow.
