Morning Devotional...

Till I come, give attendance to reading.
1 Timothy 4:13

As a representative of my employer, I was asked to attend the ceremonial Thanksgiving Service of the Queen's Golden Jubilee in Glasgow Cathedral.

During the service the following prayer was offered which caused me to reflect:

"We confess to Thee, O Lord, that Thy Word too often lurks on our shelves, and is imprisoned by the limitations of our knowledge; that it seems to seldom move us to words of love and compassion and into action; and that we fail to grasp the sword of Thy Spirit which is Thy Word, to change us as Thou art always calling us.

For our sins of timidity and slothfulness we ask Thy pardon; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen."
--B. P.

O God, in whom our trust we place,
we thank Thee for Thy Word of grace;
Help us its precepts to obey
till we shall live in endless day.

This is really a first! Good morning, friends!

I slipped in the door after having great dinner conversation with a young friend.

It's fun to say "good morning," when it's really "good night."  ;)

Monty, such a shame we didn't get to know each other when you were here. My son and his family live near Atlanta, and the main road near their home is called "Wendy Bagwell Highway." Do you remember the group Wendy Bagwell and the Sunliters?

My dad used to take me to the old Ryman Auditorium for the Friday night singin's. Lots of good clean fun - then my mother really loved the quiet worshipful type music. Then, when it came time for piano graining, I only took classical beginning at age 6. So, for sure, my musical tastes are quite varied.

Y'all have a wonderful day with our Lord.

from Oswald Chambers:
I Corinthians 10 : 31
Whatever you do, do all to the glory of GOD

             STILL HUMAN!

We have a tedency to look for wonder in our experience, and we mistake heroic actions for real heroes.
We tend to set up success in Christian work as our purpose,
but our purpose should be to display the Glory of God in human life in our everyday human conditions.

This evening we are going to an aunt from me a sister from my fahter it is always nice to be there.

1 John 1 : 5

Good Afternoon from U.K.

The sun is shining here and we have blue skies...Thank God for His goodness!

I told Pat I would just pop in sometimes to see you all...sometimes I spout a lot of "empty" words., just a waste of energy.

This morning however, I see Spring in  the air and since I used some more lovely Lavender in my shower last night I was reminded of the Norfolk Lavender Company, from whom I buy my soaps and Lavender products.  I decided to see if they were on-line.
Yes indeed they are and the website also has a tap in for USA.  It is a very interesting site with history and other info.  and the on-line shop.  I decided to share it with you because Sue and Marilyn and some of you others love Lavender too:-

God Bless,
Pray,. Hope and Do Not Worry.
Love,

Hello!!!

Just popping in while Travis is playing for a minute.  We've got to get ready and go to the chiro-cracker (for me, not him) in a few minutes.  Maybe, just maybe, then, I'll be able to walk upright!

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Hi Jenny, Pat, Nards, Ria, Ruth Ann and Ursula!

I took some pictures yesterday evening of the girls.  I was trying to get some ideas for this gal that wants me to take some easter pictures of her girls with their new dresses on.  I am still not sure what I should do.  Does anyone here have any ideas?  I would sure appreciate it.

When we have the opportunity to help anyone, we should do it. But we should give special attention to those who are int eh family of believers.

Fast Eddie ~
QuoteETTA SUE:  and others who may have Windows 98....in the system tools menu there are three steps to clean-up.
I don't have Windows 98 SE now.  I have Windows XP.  But....in the old days...on maintenance day...I would run my virus detector, then Disk CleanUp, then ScanDisk and then defrag.  It sure made a difference in how the cp ran.  Now I have Norton Antivirus and Norton Antispam....both on all the time.  Even at that, I have gotten virus' twice.  My guru said to download Adaware.  I run it and it finds the 'bugs'.

Marilyn and Liz ~ Roasting the turkey upside down doesn't make a pretty site  :o if you serve the turkey whole and it is carved at the table.  But if you are like my Mom, she carved the turkey and then served the platter of sliced/cut up turkey, this method of roasting is fine.

Pat ~ I am glad that Oldiesmann is working on the timed-out problem.  Another reason for composing my posts on notepad.  I didn't have to re-write my post!!!  Michael does know about the timed-out problem, correct?

Kathy ~ What a great story?  Also did you know that the Gaithers are from around here?  Just up the road!!  And one of their videos was filmed at 'The Paramount Theater' in Anderson....recently restored and is a beautiful place.

Judy McK ~ Inky is still Inky.  I am counting the day until I can take her to the vet.  Maybe she will calm down.  If she doesn't want to be held, she isn't held.  But I love it when she climbs up on the recliner and sleeps on my lap or chest.  She will play for hours.  I threw her the ring off of a milk container.  She plays and plays with it.  She loses it and then it shows up again a few hours later.  She is an entertainer.  Ali and Inky are getting along much better.  They play together and once in a while, I hear a loud MEOW!  I know then that one of them got the better of the other!!!

Soni ~ I think whatever you decide about taking pictures of your friends daughers will be fine.  You ALWAYS have such good photos.

ALL YOU READERS OF THE 'LEFT BEHIND' SERIES BOOKS....today the last book, "Glorious Appearing", is available in the book stores.  Ivalou and I are going to a book store after having lunch somewhere...her day today.   ;) I want to see if I can get a new battery for my digital camera also.  It isn't holding a charge like it is suppose to hold.

Good morning, friends!  We went to the pool again today, first time in nearly two weeks.  My arm feels better, so decided to try again, I miss swimming so much when we don't go.  It felt wonderful being in the water again.

I have more framing to work on today, and I spent too much time on computer yesterday, caused my arm to hurt again.  So today I will "take care of business!"

I enjoyed this story, hope you will, too.

Dwight L. Moody's Inabilities

I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may
work through me (2 Corinthians 12:9, NLT).

Dear friends:

In the 19th century, a young Christian heard a Bible teacher say, "The
world has yet to see what God can do with a man who is totally
surrendered to Him."

The young Christian said to himself, "I want to be that man."  That
young man was Dwight L. Moody, who became one of the greatest
evangelists of all time, long before radio and television.

When the searching eyes of the Lord found Moody, they found a man whose
"availability" far surpassed his "ability."  But God can do a lot with a
little if He has all there is of it.

Moody was born in 1837 in the little town of Northfield, Mass.  His
father died at an early age of 41, leaving his widow in poverty, with a
large mortgage on the home.

The creditors grabbed everything they could, including firewood.  Mrs.
Moody tried to keep her family of nine children not only together, but
together in Sunday School.

By the time Dwight was 17, he had become a successful shoe salesman for
Holton's Shoe Store.  Moody accepted Christ in the back room of the shoe
store through the guidance of his Sunday School teacher.  Later, he
became actively involved in the Plymouth Congregational Church in
Chicago.  As a layman, he began renting the church pews and filling them
up with men and women whom he had invited.

He went on to become the great evangelist.  But he never got away from
his simple commitment and the memories of the first time he stood up to
speak as a young man, when one of the deacons assured him that, in his
opinion, he would serve God best by keeping still.  Another critic
praised Moody for his zeal but pleaded with him, saying that he should
realize his limitations and not attempt to speak in public.  "You make
too many mistakes in grammar."

Moody patiently made reply to the man's concern: "I know I make
mistakes, and I lack many things, but I'm doing the best I can with what
I've got."  He then quietly looked at the man and searchingly inquired,
"Look here, friend, you've got grammar enough.  What are you doing with
it for the Master?"

God is looking for people today who will decide to take what they have
and totally commit it to be used for the Master.

Perhaps a future Dwight L. Moody is reading this right now.

Yours for helping to fulfill the Great Commission
each year until our Lord returns,

Bill Bright

Hi Everyone!

Hey, GARETH PARKES, did you hear me calling you last night?  I see you online!  I was hoping I hollered loudly enough!  HEHEHE!!!

Great to see both Ursula and Ruth Ann drop in last night!

Thanks for the Bill Bright article, Janet!   Great reading there.

Hi everyone, I got back from Spain earlier today.  I must be really sad when the first thing I do is visit you all on this forum ;D . I remember in my youth having to pronounce "the rain in Spain falls mainly on the plane" with my flat South African accent.  However, little did I realize how much rain fell anywhere else but the plane.  It rained for three days solidly and was overcast with drizzle the rest of the time.

Despite the weather, I managed a few moody photos which I will share with you, and on one rare occasion visited a park where I took lots of a peacock who only spread his tail when I was not looking.

Pat, I was not online last night as I was safely tucked away in Spain with no PC.  My son Michael uses the PC whenever I am not around, so it probably was him.

(Ria, I am really sorry to hear about your old Queen Juliana.  She was a remarkable woman and I hope her legacy is one that will encourage all of you in Holland. I am sure the funeral was befitting a Queen.)

Glad to see you're home.  Sorry about all the rain though.

Good morning from BC!

I have a question I would like to ask.  I hope nobody takes this wrong.

I had a request a couple days ago for one of my pictures to be used on a website, as a backdrop.  You all probably have had those kinds of requests, but for me this is fairly new, I've had only one other similar request before, and that was from a museum and I was perfectly happy with them using my picture.

The site at which they want to use this second picture is one that promotes Eastern thinking (a combination of martial arts and zen meditation) to achieve personal peace and, I guess, earn salvation in a way.

I feel uncomfortable with this kind of thinking.  I also feel uncomfortable with a picture of mine being posted at a site that promotes this kind of thinking.

My question.  Am I being prejudiced and close-minded in thinking like this?  What do you guys think?

Anyway.  It's a beautiful day here, my family and I are totally amazed at the weather in British Columbia.

Take care all.

Ursula

I don't think you're being prejudiced at all, Ursula.  It's your picture and you have a right to say when and where it will be shown and I wouldn't want one of my photos being shown on a site that I didn't agree with--especially about my Christian beliefs.

That's just IMHO and I would agree with you.

Hi everyone.

Ursula, I certainly agree with the advise that Pat gave you and I thought your posting really provided the answer when you indicated you were not comfortable with the request.

Gareth, good to see you back from Spain.  We could use a litte of that rain here in Georiga, although we did have some rain early this morning and the ground is now wet.

Jenny, when I read your words
Quote"sometimes I spout a lot of "empty" words., just a waste of energy."
I thought to myself I couldn't disagree with you more.  I have always enjoyed your postings and the Biblical wisdom you so often share with us.

Etta Sue, I hadn't realized there was going to be another "Left Behind" book coming out.  I will have to get my name in at the library as really liked that series.

Karmat, hope the chiro-cracker helps your back alot.  My daughter sees one about every week and it seems to give her a lot of relief.  Unfortunately it doesn't seem to last very long as she has a lot of problems with her back.  He told her last week that the neuropathy that she has explains a lot about her need for the treatments.

Sonja, the only advice I could give you regarding the upcoming photos is to be sure to take the lens cap off.  I know this will be very helpful.  ;D  I almost did something like that on Sunday when I took my digital camera to church to take a picture of a lady for our website (she didn't show up) and also took some pictures of our Sunday School class and the choir preparing for the Sunday service.  When I looked at them I discovered that I had left the outdoor filter on the lens and I couldn't use the pictures.  As I have said often I am not much of a photographer but will keep trying.

Marilyn, do hope you can ward off that cold.

Janet, thanks for the story about D.L. Moody.

Paulette, good to see your posting.

Will I have better stop writing and get busy on some other work.  Hope everyone has a good day.

Above All
Paul Balocke and Lenny Leblane

Above all powers above all kings
Above all nature and all created things
Above all wisdom and all the ways of man
You were here before the world began.

Above all kingdoms above all thrones
Above all wonders the world and ever known
Above all wealth and treasures of the earth
Ther's no way to measure what You're worth

Crucified laid behind a stone
You lived to die rejected and alone
Like a rose trampled on the ground
You took the fall and thought of me
Above all
-------------------------------------------------------------
I know this song is popular and we sing it too, but as our Pastor pointed out  the last line is not true doctrinally speaking, our Lord  did not " think of me above all" He came to glorify the Father, and therefore His Father was His main focus and thought " above all."
Be careful with some modern songs, they are a bit suspect doctrinally!!
love Chris.

Hey, what's up with the smilies.  I clicked on the ones I wanted, and it stuck them at random points in my message, not where my cursor was.  Had to manually move them.  Usually, on forums, it just puts them at the end.

Anyway, I hope all is going well.

I think Darrel needs me to help him install an alarm system tomorrow, so not sure what time I will be on here.

Ursula, I agree that your decision was the best for your photo.  I would feel the same about it.  Good to have you posting again.

Boy, Etta Sue, we sure could use some rain here.  It is bone dry and no relief in sight.  Looks as if it is shaping up to be a really hot summer.

We had some people come out to look at our house we have for sale.  I pray they decide to buy it.  We need less to take care of, cannot keep up with all of it.

I wish all of you a blessed and restful night tonight.  See you tomorrow! :D

My smilies seem to be obeying all right! ;D

I'm not having any troubles with the smileys, but some of the links (e.g. next page) seem to take me to prior day pages.  Maybe I'm just confused.

Ursula, it's not just you.  We're all learning together what this new software will do.  I'm learning all kinds of things.

So, hang in there...along with the rest of us.

News out of Britain:

The first is that British police arrested eight men with suspected links to terrorism and also seized 1/2 ton of ammonium nitrate, which can be used to make a bomb.  Spanish officials think that one of the men may be connected to the Madrid bombings.   :o

And Alistair Cooke, an English-born broadcaster famous
throughout the world for his weekly broadcast on BBC
World Service, died last night.  He was 95.  :(    I listened to him a lot.

I feel uncomfortable with this kind of thinking.

Ursula, you did the right thing.  When you feel uncomfortable about doing something it is always best to refrain from doing it.

We have had another good day here today.  This morning we went to the beach and had a very nice walk.

This afternoon I had a nice swim in the pool.

Rom 3:21-26
21   But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify.
22   This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference,
23   for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
24   and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
25   God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished--
26   he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.

It has been a quiet day around here, I did get some knitting done and instead of going to work I stayed home to rest as my knee is still in the recovery mode.  I expect that I will be going to work tomorrow I can now bend my knee enough to get in and out of the car.

Jenny: Good to see you again.

I know this song is popular and we sing it too, but as our Pastor pointed out  the last line is not true doctrinally speaking, our Lord  did not " think of me above all" He came to glorify the Father, and therefore His Father was His main focus and thought " above all."
Be careful with some modern songs, they are a bit suspect doctrinally!!
love Chris.

I think it's a terrible mistake to become the "First Church of the Hymnbook", because our doctrine should be based on the Bible.  If we EVER base our doctrine on ANY song, whether it was written in the 21st century or 2000 years before Christ, we are making  a terrible mistake.  NO song is to be regarded as canonical, regardless of how new or old it is.  I don't think it's fair to criticize the doctrine of new songs alone.  They were all written by fallible human beings.  Let's subject them ALL to the same looking glass.

I also think that criticizing this song on this basis is a bit weak when we teach that Jesus died for us because He loved us.  If it wasn't His love that held us to the cross, but only a sense of duty, we weaken the message of love that the cross is really all about.  I personally believe that He DID think of me, because He was fully God and God is love, and God loves ME.  Degenerating the action of the cross to a simple "duty" seems to me to lessen the impact of what He did for ME.  He did it because He loves me, and any other interpretation doesn't sit quite right with me.  Sorry :)

In my opinion, there is absolutely nothing doctrinally wrong with this song :)  I don't say that to be argumentative, but because I believe it's true.

I agree, Nards.  The Bible is God's Word, whereas the hymns, songs, etc. are man's words.  Hymns, songs, etc. are good - we're admonished to create and sing them.  And they can be very uplifting in many ways, but they are still man's words.
