No man knows how bad he is
until he has tried to be good.
There is a silly idea about
that good people don't know
what temptation means.

Morning Devotional...
Herod Kills John the Baptist
Mark 6:14-29 NLT
14Herod Antipas, the king, soon heard about Jesus, because people everywhere were talking about him. Some were saying, "This must be John the Baptist come back to life again. That is why he can do such miracles." 15Others thought Jesus was the ancient prophet Elijah. Still others thought he was a prophet like the other great prophets of the past. 16When Herod heard about Jesus, he said, "John, the man I beheaded, has come back from the dead." 17For Herod had sent soldiers to arrest and imprison John as a favor to Herodias. She had been his brother Philip's wife, but Herod had married her. 18John kept telling Herod, "It is illegal for you to marry your brother's wife." 19Herodias was enraged and wanted John killed in revenge, but without Herod's approval she was powerless. 20And Herod respected John, knowing that he was a good and holy man, so he kept him under his protection. Herod was disturbed whenever he talked with John, but even so, he liked to listen to him.
21Herodias's chance finally came. It was Herod's birthday, and he gave a party for his palace aides, army officers, and the leading citizens of Galilee. 22Then his daughter, also named Herodias, came in and performed a dance that greatly pleased them all. "Ask me for anything you like," the king said to the girl, "and I will give it to you." 23Then he promised, "I will give you whatever you ask, up to half of my kingdom!"
24She went out and asked her mother, "What should I ask for?"
Her mother told her, "Ask for John the Baptist's head!"
25So the girl hurried back to the king and told him, "I want the head of John the Baptist, right now, on a tray!"
26Then the king was very sorry, but he was embarrassed to break his oath in front of his guests. 27So he sent an executioner to the prison to cut off John's head and bring it to him. The soldier beheaded John in the prison, 28brought his head on a tray, and gave it to the girl, who took it to her mother. 29When John's disciples heard what had happened, they came for his body and buried it in a tomb.

As a ruler under Roman authority, Herod had no kingdom to give. The offer of half his kingdom was Herod's way to say that he would give Herodias's daughter almost anything she wanted. When Herodias asked for John's head, Herod would have been greatly embarrassed in front of his guests if he had denied her request.
Words are powerful. Because they can lead to great sin, we should use them with great care.

Joyce ~ Thanks for the report about your husband. It does sound like he is coming along fine now.
The movie Ivalou and I saw was 'Failure to Launch'...about parents trying to get their adult child to move out of the house. Very funny!---<---<-@---<---<-@---<---<-@---<---<-@---<---<-@---<---<-@

Etta Sue,
Thank you for this devontional, we all surely need to water our seeds and get the weeds out of our garden.
Nice to see you all God be with you all, Alma
The Mission Committee put the finishing touches on the rest of the cows for One Great Hour of Sharing last evening. We have even found a way to attach to attach a couple of shoots of grain so it looks like a cow is chewing on it.
But I have a question (and I hope I'm doing this right) does anyone know what kind of grain this is? http://www.christianphotographers.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=279&pos=0
Thanks for the devotional Etta Sue.
Larry for your daughter with the leg pains, suggest to her to try a calcium-magnesium-vitamin D combination, I have leg pains too and as long as I take the calcium I am fine. If I go over a week without it I am in trouble. It is an inexpensive "fix" to an annoying painful problem.
Late and I am tired.
Night all
Judy
Thanks Etta Sue, wonderful word this morning. At the end it asks how would I like to be like John the baptist...I would hope to hold to my convictions even unto death. Even if I didn't, isn't it wonderful to know that Jesus even forgave Peter. Peace, Ritz.
Hey...Anyone taken any new photos lately?
Hi everyone. Another totally beautiful day here in Georgia.
I finally got caught up on the webmaster work for my church website so am ready to start working today on my cousin's reunion that I am organizing. Also this afternoon I will go to Calvin Cove to play for and sing with the older folks at the day care center.
My friend Rod's wife came through her hip surgery late yesterday afternoon and is doing well according to the doctor. Not sure she would agree as is apparently in a lot of pain. Hopefully the pain will lessen today and expect they will be getting her up and walking today.
JudyB, thanks for the information. My daughter has been taking calcium. Unfortunately this pain comes from the peripheral neuropathy. She has tried many different things.
Jeanne Lee, I am not very good at identifing plants but that sure looks like wheat.
Etta Sue, thanks for the devotional. Chris, thanks for sharing the devotional material and articles. I like the picture of the tree. It brings back memories of driving through the country side when no leaves are on the trees and seeing the big, old trees like that.
Janet, sorry to read that your mother had suffered a heart attack. Even a small one isn't a good thing. Hope the MRI for Beth went well yesterday.
Marilyn, hope the halter monitoring test went well last evening. I think that is one thing I have never had to do. However, my wife has done it a couple of times as on occasion her heart seems to really pound.
Guess I had better get busy on some other things.
Last night was a wonderful ending to 4 days of services by the Evangelist. If you ever get a chance to hear Craig Lorick do go and see him. He really has that "right in your face" type of preaching. I hope that is the right description.
Etta sue great devotional.
Jeanne It looks like either Wheat or Barley to me. But what do I know.
The Holter monitor goes back at 1PM today. After my Dr. get the results she will call me.
Supposed to rain more today, yesterday was a pretty nice day. I did better with my CPAP machine last night, a friend gave me a different mask to use and it works better for me. I slept for 5 hours straight without waking up.
TTYL
Wheat, Jeanne. Wheat! And I will say they are beautiful stalks of wheat, too.
I must have really been tired last evening. I went to bed by 11 and didn't get up until 9:40 a.m. The girls wanted me up earlier...Inky getting right into my face and Ali crying for her water from the faucet. The food bowl was empty, too. This cold is still in the early stages, I fear.
Thanks to all who enjoyed the devotion.
WHEAT, Jeanne, WHEAT! Bearded wheat like we grow here in Kansas. Not barley, WHEAT!! :) ;D
We got the MRI done this morning without undue stress, and I am thankful for that. While at the hospital waiting for them to finish with Beth, I went in to see Mom. Her doctor came in while I was there, and he said she did NOT have a heart attack. Her blood pressure spiked at an alarming 200/100, and he said that caused the heart pains, and elevated some enzymes of the heart. They were to do an echo-cardiogram, and she will likely go back to the care home this afternoon or tomorrow. She was feeling fine this morning.
The wind is just awful here again today. :P I do not like the wind. :(
I hope my ladies come to paint today, they have missed a lot lately. If they aren't going to come, then I need to get in there and do some painting of my own.
Sure good to hear the young lady reporter was freed in Iraq this morning. She says she was treated well and never hurt in any way; but still doesn't know why she was kidnapped.
Talk atcha later! ;)
Good day everyone
Enjoyed this devotional today-there is always something to gleam from God's word.
Its a warmer day here today with a little bit of fog
I am doing some bible study today and in need of a break now :)
I am glad also for the release of this young woman in Irag
Larry-praying your daughter will get relief from these leg pains.
Blessings to all.
Thanks Etta Sue. A great Word. I want to be like John the Baptist in my unwavering preaching, but I'd like to keep my head, I think. ???
Spring went away for just a couple of days. It's supposed to be back TODAY!

Hello Everyone...
Here I am, the absent one.
It's so good to read all of your messages and to read what you've all been doing.
WHEAT Jeanne! I agree!
I've just been in the Gallery and you folks have sure been busy. Lots of good photos in there to look at and comment on. So good to see that Woodenshoe (Tom) has been to the site, created his albums and uploaded some.
I'll be back later, folks.
The only sign of spring around this area is a whole lot of rain. Puddles on the ground, two wet dogs, and tall grass in the back yard. ;)
Okay Marilyn...Here's a challenge for you... How about a photo of two wet dogs standing in a puddle, with tall grass in the background? Sounds pretty cool to me...but hey, I'm wierd. :uglystupid:
Thanks everyone for identifying the grain stalks for me. :) I knew all I had to do was post a fairly good picture and someone would be sure to know!

Great idea, Ritz! Go for it Marilyn!
Gripped,
kevin
I did see some jonquils and some hyacinths blooming today---but not in my yard! :( All there is here to even suggest Spring is coming is weeds coming up all over the place. Ugh. :P
There are some lovely photos in the gallery. Some are so different, really gives you a new view of things.
Time to hit the hay around here. I'm sure not looking forward to "springing forward" on Sunday. I've been having a lot of trouble sleeping again lately.
Hi Janet: Sorry to hear that you are having trouble sleeping, I know how that is. But I am doing better now with my CPAP machine. I actually got 5 good hours of sleep last night. Have you tried Valrian, or a natural sleep potion from the health food store. There are some good ones available. Or you could drink some Chamomile tea before you go to bed.
Kevin that is a great photo of Jazz you sent. It is fantastic. I never get shots like that.
Good Night all.
