JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Is longsuffering just a thin veneer?

Bringing credit to God.

Paul urged the Lord's people at Ehesus to deal with one another in a way that would bring credit to their Father in heaven.  He said their dealings with one another should be "With all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love."   Ephesians 4:2.

Longsuffering is a word that means just what it says: it means suffering, if necessary even for a long time, while acting in love toward one or more persons.  It means serving regardless of acceptance or hindrances.  It means giving without getting, blessing with little or no return, loving cheefully even in the face of hostility.  It means I will love and serve you even when you hate and abuse me.

How can you and I possibly have such an attitude in a world filled with selfishness and strife?  It can only exist in us because it has already been a wonderful character trait in our Lord Jesus Christ, "Who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him Who judges righteously; Who Himself bore our sins in His own Body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness."

We can live because He lives!  Oh ask Him for more and more of Himself in you!  As Paul himself said, "Be filled with the Holy Spirit."

BIND US TOGETHER, LORD

Bind us together, Lord
bind us together,
with cords that cannot be broken.
Bind us together, Lord,
bind us together,
bind us together with love.

There is only one God,
there is only one King
there is only one Body
xthat is why we sing:
Bind us together, Lord ...

Made for the glory of God,
purchased by his precious Son,
born with the right to be clean,
for Jesus the victory has won.
Bind us together, Lord ...

You are the family of God,
you are the promise divine,
you are God's chosen desire,
you are the glorious new wine.
Bind us together, Lord ...

Preaching: Listen to God

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world.
He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of
life."
--John 8:12

If while hearing a sermon we can fix on but one real jewel of truth
we may consider ourselves well rewarded for the time we have spent.

One such gem was uncovered during a sermon which I heard some time
ago. From the sermon I got one worthy sentence and no more, but it
was so good that I regret that I cannot remember who the preacher
was, that I might give him credit. Here is what he said, "Listen to
no man who fails to listen to God."...
No man has any right to offer advice who has not first heard God
speak. No man has any right to counsel others who is not ready to
hear and follow the counsel of the Lord. True moral wisdom must
always be an echo of God's voice. The only safe light for our path
is the light which is reflected from Christ, the Light of the
World....
God has His chosen men still, and they are without exception good
listeners. They can hear when the Lord speaks. We may safely listen
to such men. But to no others.  The Root of the Righteous, 15-17.

"Don't ever let me preach my own empty, worthless stuff, Lord.
Whenever I enter the pulpit I pray that I might have a fresh word
from heaven. Amen."

Al That is a hymn I love.  Thank you  for the devotional.  Dealing with gentleness is difficult.  Something I have to strive for.

It is already +20*C or 68*F here now.  Can't wait till the afternoon to see what the high is going to be.

Have a lot to do so bye for now.

Well, it's back to the old fitness center today.  Gotta do my 30 minutes on the treadmill.  And then to the clinic to get our meds.  First exercise to prevent illness, then pills to overcome it.  Kinda looks like a pretty narrow focus.  But at least I'm glad it all belongs to the Lord.

Ritz

I read once that God uses the people that grate against you, to smooth out your rough edges. To turn and love those that hate you, or despitefully use you, can only be done through the Holy Spirit living in us. I can testify first hand.

Good morning.  Well, it is still morning in Indiana.  The trash is put out and it is warming up but it isn't as warm as it is way north of me where JudyB is.  Only 54°F here!  ;)

Not much going for today but need to find time and a place to walk for awhile.  My back is aching from the standing at church yesterday so I may have to shorten the walk.   :-\

Tonight is Small Groups...our last lesson.  I doubt if we continue meeting since we take a summer break and it just won't be the same without Mark and Deborah.  So I imagine our Small Group will dissolve.  I think some of the married couples are starting a Married Couples Small Group....now if they would find me a husband.... :'(

Hi Marilyn...  Just copy and paste this:  °  (Thanks Etta Sue)

Then you can add it to your posts.

It's great to come and read your posts today.  What a wonderful devotional.  Thanks Al.  Enjoy your time on the treadmill.

I have mine set up so that I can watch a program for 30 minutes or an hour and it makes the time go past more quickly.

I would love to have a tred mill, but considering I live out in the boonies perhaps it is better in the spring summer and fall to go outside and walk.  There are always excuses, I need to delete the excuses!

It is really a beautiful day.23*C or 73.4 *F

John is home today and will be able to go to small group tonight.

Till later,

Hi everyone.  I seem to be on the last stages of this 24 hour flu that struck me yesterday morning.  By church time there was no way I could go and certainly didn't want to expose others to the bug.  I wasn't comfortable laying down as my back ached and not much better sitting up.  However, by later in the evening and then during the night the back pain went away.  I was able to eat some chicken soup for lunch and hope to have something more substantive for dinner.

Mariyn, I accidentally ran you on Skype as my friend had called and when I went to call him back it got on the wrong line.  I couldn't have talked to you anyway as while I can hear the person calling they cannot hear me.  I have this problem on both computers so wonder if I have a port setting problem or something.  If I can help you though send me an e-mail with your telephone number and I will call you on the phone and see if I can be any help.

Al, that was a fine devotional.

JudyB, our son loaned us his treadmill but I found I really don't do very well on it as can't walk more than 4 minutes or so without bringing on the angina.  My wife uses it occasionally.

Etta Sue, you may find that doing the walking will actually make your back feel better, at least I hope so.

Jeanne, it seems like a nice thing to do in having the children greet and help with the collection.  I am sure it makes them feel like a needed part of the church family, which they are.

Papa John, good to see you posting again and to read the encouraging news about Cornelia.

Pat, that sounds like a good thing to do on the database but one that will take a bit of work.

Ruth, do you do a lot of fishing?  My folks loved to fish and my wife and children also enjoy it but it is just not my thing.  I would much rather be reading a book.

Well, guess I had better move on for today.  Hi to Ritz and all posting that I haven't commented to directly.

Larry

JudyB

Larry I am sorry to hear you are/have been under the weater. There have been a lot of flu type bugs going around.  Try a hot lemon drink with a teaspoon of honey in it.  Mother found that helped her, she had it just before bed and was feeling better in the morning.  Also be careful with that treadmill!

Ruth's husband and John used to go fishing together quite often,  They haven't done that in some time.  What I loved the most was Lake Ontario fishng for salmon.  There used to be a lot of pollutants in the lake then the pesky zebra mussles invaded.  Scientists have found since the invasion of the zebra, they have cleaned up the water polutants. Isn't creation wonderful!

Well back to work.

Till later
Judy

Pat, bbrandt@pld.com is Beth's old email, and things got mixed up when she came home from NY.  Her new one is panda@pld.com.  I'm sure she would like to receive your email; she does still visit here some, and I will encourage her to resume posting as well.

I am inexpressibly tired tonight, so am going to go prepare the NEM and then go to bed.  I have had a tough day, but tomorrow will be better!

My weekend Walk to Emmaus was.....It is hard to put into words......but it was the most profound experience of my Christian life.  I will tell you more about it when I am a little more rested.  Thanks to those who prayed for me while I was away; and of course, for Beth.  I can tell she is worse, just in three days' time.  :'(

Be back soon to post the NEM.

Marilyn, I just looked at your Profile and you had all of the squares that should be ticked UNTICKED.  I've ticked them now.  It was to do with PMs and Email notifications.

You won't get any of the site emails if those are unticked.
