Morning Devotional

We all want to be liked, but . . .

"If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you.  If you were of the world, the world would love its own.  Yet because you are not of the world, but i chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you." (John 15:18, 19)

Some Christians think they have to be difficult and hard to get along with in order to be distinctively different from the world.  But Jesus taught that you  have only to be chosen out of the world - that you just have to belong to Him - to be hated.

If you are kind, considerate, loving, courteous, soft spoken, and helpful, as opposed to cantankerous, unloving, selfish, loud and impolite - why then the world will begin to become suspicious of you!  If you then speak out about your Lord, why then they'll begin to talk about you and to say, "Oh, he's one of those!"

Let's be disliked for the right reasons!

Rescue the Perishing
(Click to hear music)

Snatch others from the fire and save them.
Jude 1:23

Words: Fanny Crosby
Music: W. Howard Doane

Sometime after [this] hymn became known I was at a service one evening and a young man told the story of his conversion. Poor and hungry, he had walked the streets for want of something better to do. He heard the singing at a mission; he went in; and before the service was concluded his heart broke in contrition.

"I was just ready to perish," he said to me, "but that hymn, by the grace of God saved me."

Rescue the perishing, care for the dying,
Snatch them in pity from sin and the grave;
Weep o'er the erring one, lift up the fallen,
Tell them of Jesus, the mighty to save.

Refrain

Rescue the perishing, care for the dying,
Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save.

Though they are slighting Him, still He is waiting,
Waiting the penitent child to receive;
Plead with them earnestly, plead with them gently;
He will forgive if they only believe.

Refrain

Down in the human heart, crushed by the tempter,
Feelings lie buried that grace can restore;
Touched by a loving heart, wakened by kindness,
Chords that were broken will vibrate once more.

Refrain

Rescue the perishing, duty demands it;
Strength for thy labor the Lord will provide;
Back to the narrow way patiently win them;
Tell the poor wand'rer a Savior has died.

Refrain

Welcome Angibaby![/color]

It is good to be home and see the sunshine.  An entire week in Minnesota and it was overcast and heavy rains at time until Sunday morning when I had to board a plane.  Loved having the free ticket from son-in-law.  Now back to reallity - I did the treadmill already & now to think about grocery shopping.

We are happy that a cousin's son & family of four children plus two girls (one they are adopting) are back in MN for the summer - safe from the place in Uzbeckistan.  They are not near the unrest but I know it can't help but make the parents concerned.

Here, we have things to do, meetings to attend, children to visit and so forth so it keeps us busy and we await patiently the date for Don's angioplasty - this is the VA so things do go slower than we would like but wonderful care.  He is feeling very good & watching every mouthful he eats, unlike me over this past week...

I will check on the prayer area.

Marilyn:  I did have a sweet note from Jenny!  Thanks for the info.

Good Morning Thank you AL for the dovotional this morning. I am feeling much better today and I slept all night without waking up once. That is something very rare in my life. God is so good all the time.

The sun is shining here and hopfully it will stay that way all day without any rain. This afternnon I will be taking Versal to WM's if she feels like going.  We are making costumes that the pastor asked us to make, knitted hats for some orphanages in the Ukraine etc. We have already sent  65 hats 14 were made by  one of the young ladies from the youth class.

Yes Ruth Ann it is so wondeful to be forgiven and know that our sins have been cast into the sea of forgetfulness. I can look back on my life and say "Thank you Jesus." That is the bottom line of my testimony. It doesn't hurt every once in awhile to share that testimopny  to impress upon people that the world has nothing out there to offer, it is all  in Jesus. Hallelujah.

We all have things that are difficult to talk about or to remember but it is  cleansing  to get it out and then lock it back up again and say "Thank you Jesus for saving me".

Well, today's the day for me!  I'm supposed to get the leg wraps off today, go back to compression stockings, regular shoes, sox, etc.  I pray I'll use the additional freedom for God's glory, not just my comfort.

Ruth

Good Morning and thanks for the great devotionals

This is Canada's first long week-end ( The May 24 long week-end) of the summer season lots of cottagers headed north and now today and tomorrow morning they will be coming back home our daughter is one of the many as well.  Here in town we have a parade coming down our street and then arriving at the community centre, of sorts a small town party then at dusk there will be a fireworks display this does draw a lot of guests a wonderful show really. Time to get the new camera out and see how I manage.

A few days ago it was mentioned that I should move the computer closer to the kitchen, for starters I have no room there and the good thing for me is that I would never get any work done if it was that close, and another plus I guess I have to walk down the hall to where it is. I would call this a little exercise.

Perhaps I will check back later.

Ruth
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.  Proverbs 3:6

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.

Ruth, I think I was the one making the suggestion and it was "tongue-in-cheek".  I wouldn't want my computer in my kitchen either.  I remember one of the first computers I had (an Atari 400) that I had a little computer desk that was in the combined kitchen dinette area.  Fortunately it was a large room and I wasn't spending so much time on it.  It sounds like you all had quite an intersting weekend.  This upcoming weekend is the big one here in the USA as we have the Memorial Day holiday and in our area the schools are ending this week so many people will be taking off on vacation next week.

Al, glad you will be getting the wrappings off your legs.  I am sure that will be a relief.

Marilyn, glad your speech went well yesterday and that you had such a good night's sleep.  It really helps to see the sunshine after a considerable period of rain or cloudy weather.  We are suppose to get up to 87 degrees today but back down to 78 tomorrow.

Carol, I edited your message to add a missing tag that was preventing your welcome from showing correctly.  Glad you are safely home.  I hadn't realized that Don was going to have an angiogram done.  Has he had one done before.  I consider myself a pro in the cath lab as have been there so many times.

Al, thanks for the devotional today.

We just got back from a chiropractic appointment for Pat.  She says she is feeling a little better.  Hopefully the new medicine is going to help along with some mild exercises she is doing.

Etta Sue

Church was great yesterday.  Such wonderful sermons and loving people.  Thank you God.

I went out for Mexican after church.  The teen minister and the kids minister was there also plus a couple more table with Park Chapel people so this must be the place after church on Sunday!

I came home and watched TV.  Well, not really.  I napped but still felt I was watching TV.

I got a couple of phone calls from friends and went to bed around 11.  But I wasn't sleepy.  Couldn't turn my mind off.  I kept thinking of Jerry.  Also making a B'day card for Kaye Don.  Also cleaned my bedroom.  Saw 3 a.m. on the clock.  Finally sleep and then Inky decides it is time for Mommy to get up.  I kind of slept late....8 something.

Ivalou was just over.  We had a real nice visit.  We should have visited in the wee hours of the morning 'cause she wasn't sleeping either.

I have two things I want to accomplish today.  I have to get the ShopVac out and clean out the drain for my A/C.  It is on an interior wall in the house because I don't have duct work.  So the drain goes down the inside of the wall and across to an outside wall in the crawl space.  Algae builds up and clogs the drain if it isn't cleaned out.  Also I need to reprogram my remote for the garage door that is on the outside of my little door.  Two things.

Oops!  I was here earlier, but guess I didn't post!

My Monday is moving right along and rather smoothly so far.  I got quite a bit of housework done this morning, made lunch for Darrel (he has been out riding the mower and eating dirt, poor guy) and now I have to go take Beth to the hospital for a mammogram.  :P  Glad I am not having one today.  I also need to exchange two blouses I bought Diane for her birthday, and make a bank deposit.

I still don't know if we will have house guests for the weekend, since it is  Memorial Day, all-school reunion, and Mom's birthday.  I guess the only safe thing to do is have everything ready just in case.  Then I can enjoy a nice clean house myself if nobody comes.  8)

Curtis is heading back to Manhattan today but will come back on Friday.  He has to finish that courthouse job, and that way he will be here for his great-grandma's birthday, too.

Gotta run, see you later!

Preaching: Morally Wrong Teaching
Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, "If you abide in My
word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and
the truth shall make you free."
--John 8:31-32
No one can know truth except the one who obeys truth. You think you
know truth. People memorize the Scriptures by the yard, but that is
not a guarantee of knowing the truth. Truth is not a text. Truth is
in the text, but it takes the text plus the Holy Spirit to bring
truth to a human soul....
Charles G. Finney taught that it was wrong--morally wrong--to teach
objective doctrine without a moral application. I have gone to
Bible classes and listened to men who were learned in the Word of
God. Still I have come away as cold as a pickled fish. There was no
help, no lift in my spirit, nothing to warm the inside of my heart.
The truth had been given to me just like a proposition in Euclid or
a mathematical formula from Pythagoras. And the answer is, "So
what? Let's go and have a soda!" Are we aware that we can give
people objective truth without moral application? If God's moral
Word is true, it means us. And if it means us, we ought to obey it.
That is life. That is knowing the truth.  Faith Beyond Reason,
64-65.

"Forgive me, Father, for those times I have been guilty of
'morally wrong' teaching. Send Your Spirit both to embolden my
preaching and to move the hearts of my hearers to action. Amen."

Awww, Etta Sue., my heart goes out to you - I'm sure you DO think of Jerry a lot these days.  Are his children in touch with you?

Carol - how is Don these days?...and Larry - I'm glad to see Pat is feeling better.  What WAS her diagnosis, anyway?

Al:  you will be so glad to get those leg wraps off eh?  Did they make your legs itch? I know long stockings make my legs and feet itch....quite annoying.

This is a holiday Monday here in Canada.  It was a very overcast day.,  and only 55 degrees, however, Norm and I went for a drive in the country., and took our little dog Rags along.  He loves the car ride too.

Time to go over to the Prayer and Praise forum
"I am too blessed to be stressed".

karmat

Hello everyone.  nards parents kept the kids today for me to go to work.  I think they went gardening -- travis loves that!!

I think I may lay down for a minute; I'm sleepy.  So, I hope all is going well for you today!!

Al Moak

Yes, Judy, itchy.  And hot, even at night.  I just got home a few moments ago, and they are OFF!  Now I'll have to struggle with those compression stockings every morning, though.  I suppose I'll get used to it.

Judy McKenna

Ooh, Al - I had to wear those stockings when I had hip replacements.  It took the nurses to put them on - no way could I do it.  Norm wears them for leg swelling too.  They do help, so I know just what you are going through.

BTW - has anyone heard from Karen (TBear)?  I miss her posts!

Hi, friends,

I'm extremely tired today - very very busy. So, will sign off and prepare to find my mattress.

G'nite.

Larry:  Don was told after a treadmill test that he would have an angiogram but the doctor wants to talk to him first and that isn't until June 12th.  We wait.  I hope that you are doing well each and every day and it was nice to read that Pat was a little better.  He did have that same test years ago and came out fine.

Judy:  Thanks - we had hoped to go fishing soon but this waiting for appointments changed that idea.

Al:  I have worn compression socks a few times but failed to use them on the hour & 40 min. flight from Minnesota and my ankles did swell a little.  Do you think sprinkling talc in the socks might help ease them on and also keep the itching down a little?  I hope this works well for you.

Carol

Hi everyone

I enjoy reading the post and finding out what is going on in your lives.  I will not at this time address any of them individually.

I have been over in Psalms 1 of Al's study and left a little message.

Thanks all for the devotions and scriptures given today.

I have been quite busy and am feeling a little tired, so think I best get off of here and get ready for some sleep and rest.

Hello Everyone...

Have you all voted on a good caption for my "Heeland Coo"?

Here's a link to it:  Choose a Caption
There's a tie for first place so go and vote!

I have been away most of the day today.  Today was Rebecca's "Birthday in the Park" down in Cambridge so we had a really good time down there and watching the little goslings swimming along the river with many parents watching over them.

I'm very tired now.  I may just go to bed early this evening.

As I was doing my laundry I went out the other back door downt he ahll by my bedroom and pow I went right through a board on the porch. It broke right in half. At first I could not put any weight on my foot but after I massaged it a bit I was able to walk and put my weight on it. I have been applying an ice pack for 20 mins. twice and now have on my ankle brace. It hurts jut below the ankle bone on my foot.  So now I will keep it up for the rest of the evening with the brace on it.

Pat here is a suggestion, since there is a tie for 1st place why don't you just put up those two and have us vote on them.
