      Morning Devotional...

      The Lamb of God

Spring is not far away in this part of the globe. In a few weeks, buds will be bursting into beautiful cascades of colour.  Brown fields will give way to tender, luscious shoots of green grass. The mornings will resound again with the melody of song birds, as they flit around in their new bright spring feathers, doing the things birds do while building their nests and raising their little ones. Soon, too, the little lambs will be seen sporting on the hills and in the valleys of Ontario, and Scotland and Ireland and many other places throughout the world.

Perhaps it was in spring that John the Baptist, on seeing Jesus coming to him said: "Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world." John 1:29 (NKJV) What an unusual thing to call an adult male. What a peculiar statement to make. Think of it again.  "Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world."

Lambs were familiar to the Jewish people of John's day. Lambs were a reminder to them of their history, when as slaves in Egypt, God had commanded them to kill a lamb, a spotless lamb, for each household and apply its blood to the lintel and door posts of their houses so that God's judgment would not fall on them. This exciting story can be read in detail in Exodus 12.

When I was a boy (many years ago), my father used to tell me stories to illustrate the Bible way of salvation. He seemed to have an endless store of them. Some of these stories I have remembered fondly over the years. One was about a man in Switzerland who was employed to repair the steeple on a local village church. So used, was he to working at heights that he did not bother to attach himself with a safety rope. He wanted freedom to move around, but alas his desire for freedom almost cost him his life. To their horror, some of the villagers saw him slip and grasp wildly to break his fall. To no avail, downward he hurtled. The villagers ran frantically to where the worker lay. He must be dead! But wonder of wonders he was alive. Instead, a lamb lay beneath him bearing his weight. The lamb was dead, crushed beneath the human load which had fallen on it.

When John the Baptist called the Lord Jesus Christ, "The lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world", he was telling his hearers that Jesus would die on the cross to take the weight of sin of the nations so that judgment need not fall on those who like the Israelites in Egypt were protected, by the blood of the lamb.

In the book of Revelation 7:9-10 (NKJV), we see, "a great multitude from all nations, tribes, peoples and tongues standing before the throne of the Lamb clothed in white robes with palm branches in their hands and crying with a loud voice saying, "Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne and to the Lamb".

There is a lovely hymn we sometimes sing in the church where we fellowship that speaks of Christ's sacrificial work as the Lamb of God and the blessings brought to all those who are His by personal faith in Him.

The Lamb of God to slaughter led,
      The King of glory see!
The crown of thorns upon His head,
They nail Him to the tree!

The Father gives His only Son,
      The Lord of Glory dies
For us, the guilty and undone,
      A spotless Sacrifice.

Enthroned with Thee now sits the Lord,
      And in Thy bosom dwells;
Justice, that smote Him with the sword,
      Our perfect pardon seals.

      Eternal death was once our doom;
      Now death has lost its sting;
We rose with Jesus from the tomb
      Jehovah's love to sing.

      ~Robert C. Chapman~

Let me lovingly ask you a very personal question, "What is your relationship to the Lamb of God? Have you put your faith in Him to deliver you from the judgment to come?" To do this you must first agree with God that you are a helpless sinner unable to meet the demands of His law, unable to pay the price of your own sin. Then you must agree that as the Lamb of God, He has taken away your sin.

If you have trusted Him you will one day sing the song of the redeemed in heaven

"Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
To receive power and riches and wisdom
And strength and honour and glory and blessing"

Blessing and honour and glory and power
Be to Him who sits on the throne,
And to the Lamb for ever and ever
      ."

      Revelation 5:11,12

The alternative is frightful. Those who do not seek the Lamb as Lord and Saviour will want to flee from Him as Judge, and will "call on the mountains and rocks to fall on them to hide them from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?" [/i] (Revelation 6:15-17).

It is my prayer that none who read this will miss the day of Salvation, and the mercy of the Lamb, for who will be able to stand in the coming day of the wrath of the Lamb.

                                                                              ~Jack Scott~

      Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;

Pat, thank you for sharing Jack's article on the Lamb of God.  This is the message of the Bible.

Rev 5:12  In a loud voice they sang: "Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!"  (NIV)

I hope everyone here in the States will have a nice Memorial Day.  This is kind of the unofficial first day of summer for us.  Most of the schools are closed now for summer vacation.  I hope everyone will have a nice day.

Oh, I just lost my post.  It was the very bestest post I ever wrote.  So touching.  So eloquent.  So full of .... well, it was full!

Papa John ~ The ribs smell delish!  I turned on the crockpot at 1:30AM.  Woke up to a delicious smell.

      Thanks for the morning devotional.

Jerry and I will have our ribs and I am baking baked beans.  Maybe some slaw with it and that will be lunch.  He plans on watching the 500 Mile Race that I recorded for him and I will probably do some PSP lessons.  I did two last evening.  Hope the rest of the lessons are as easy at those two... ::)

Has anyone heard from Mary Frances?  I am going to Dayton to my nieces the first weekend of June and thought about Mary Frances.

Guess what I noticed yesterday.  My little humorous sayings at the bottom of my first posts on NEM was for August, not May.  It is one of the calenders that sets up and you turn over the page.  Sometime or other, I turned it around and August was up instead of May.   ;D ;D So you may get some repeats in August!  But then, next year in May, you will get new ones.... ::) ::)

Good Morning> How is everyone today. I feel great. Full of life and the love of God. July 6th is the 25th anniversary of the dedication of our church building, this year after church they are holding the annual celebration at the park. Usually they do it at the church. That Sunday will also be my last Sunday to attend church here in Lucerne Valley. The time is getting so short and I have so much to do.

Today I am going to pack some more of my belongings. I will be so glad to be with Gilbert, Sarah and the Kids. No more lonely holidays spent home, eating whatever I have in the house at the time. These lonely times are over for me and That makes me happy. ;D ;D

Well I want to get started before it gets too hot. So I will ttyl

Hi everyone.  It looks like everyone must be observing the Memorial Day weekend.  I met a couple of my friends at McDonald's for coffee this morning as our regular Cafe is closed.

Pat, I always enjoy reading Jack's writings and the illustration of the man in the bell tower is so telling.

This morning my daily Bible readings start the book of Psalms and I am also reading the related writing of Al on each of the Psalms.  Al, your writings help me to focus on the meaning of the Psalms.  Thanks.

I have no particular plans for the day as not up to doing much.

Jeanne, I saw your note about the frustration you are experiencing with Windows XP.  I have been using it for well over a year and really like it.  If I can help you in anyway just let me know and I will help if I can.

Hope everyone has a good day as we remember those who have gone before us.  I see Marilyn, Etta Sue and Papa John have posted as I have been writing.

      Janet

Memorial Day!  What a great day to stop and reflect on all that Jesus did for us......what better time?  I always like to attend the military program held at our local cemetery on Memorial Day.  I have taken the grandkids each time they were with me, and the boys especially were fascinated to learn why we set aside this day.  I introduced them to older men who had served our country intime of war, and they listened spellbound to their stories of their experiences.  And the men were so thrilled to have kids LISTEN to them.  Several had tears in their eyes.  I don't want any of my family to forget the sacrifices that have made our freedom possible.  Today, Abby is still here, so I will take her, and teach her some things about this time of remembering.

Etta Sue----what time is lunch?  Hope you made plenty, we will all be arriving around 11:30 or so.  I will bring tossed salad and three bottles of dressing!  ;) ;D

Papa John, always good to see you here!

Pat, thanks for putting in another of Jack's devotionals.  They are always so heartfelt, and well written.

All of my company has gone home, so today I need to get other things done.  I may not do them, but I NEED to! ;)

Have a great day, and I will be back later.

Hi Marilyn!  Hi, Larry!  We were all posting at the same time!  Marilyn, it is wonderful to see your normal happy frame of mind restored.  God is so good!  I have been having some difficulties with my youngest daughter, and it really gets me down, so I admire your ability to bounce back.  Praise God for that.

Larry, I hope you have a great, but lazy sort of day!  Your posts are always so positive and helpful.  God bless you, my brother.

Here is a little humor for y-all. I thought it was too cute to not share it with y-all today.
      ==================================
A man suffered a serious heart attack and had an open heart bypass surgery. He awakened from the surgery to find himself in the care of nuns at a Catholic hospital.

As he was recovering, a nun asked him questions
regarding how he was going to pay for his treatment.

She asked if he had health insurance.

He replied, in a raspy voice, "No health insurance."

The nun asked if he had money in the bank. He replied,

      "No money in the bank."

The nun asked, "Do you have a relative who could help you?"

He said, "I only have a spinster sister, who is a nun."

The nun became agitated and announced loudly, "Nuns are not spinsters!  Nuns are married to God."

The patient replied, "Send the bill to my brother-in-law."

Etta Sue, I'm really sorry about missing those ribs.  They sound delicious.  I had a hot dog and a chicken salad sandwich for lunch along with some lemonade.

Marilyn, you already are packing.  I know you are excited about this move.  We all hope and pray that it will be a happy move for you.

Larry, like you we have nothing special planned for today.  Cornelia and I went to the mall for awhile and looked a few things.  She wants me to get a new sports jacket but we didn't find anything I was interested in.

Janet, I had to take a second look at your new picture to make sure it was you.  Nice photo of you and your husband.

The sun finally came out here for awhile but right now it has slipped behind a cloud.  For those who have planned a picnic for today the weather is beginning to cooperate.  I hope you all have a nice day.

Good afternoon and thanks Pat for the devotional.

Marilyn I love your little story and is not so true we should send all our ?????? what ever it is to God.

I am feeling much better today but if I do a little much I feel tired, so the laundry can wait another day.

Whew!  What a tiring day.  I think I would have been better off working doing something or other.  Jerry watched the 500... well, I don't think he watched it all.  I think he sawed at least a cord of wood while watching it.   ;D  I have all of this weeks lessons done but the last bonus but I am calling it a day today.  Jerry also fixed my front walk.  It wasn't broke but too big a step up.  Easier now.  Geesh,.....now I have to feed him again!   ::) ::)

I think I am headed outside to walk around.  Maybe go to my brothers since they have been gone all week.

Hope everyone didn't eat too much.  BTW, the ribs were delish....just like I thought they would be.  :P :P

Steady rain all day today and only up to around 55.  Our weather seems to be very mixed up.  We had July weather in April and now we're having April weather in May. :-\

Larry, thanks for the offer of help with XP.  It's really probably only because the system has such a different look and feel from the 98 I've been using for about 4 years.  I'll get used to it sooner or later, but the older I get the longer it takes me to adapt to something new.  ;D  I did finally get the fax to work - I did a restore and as soon as the computer rebooted the fax surprised me and went out.  Without my doing anything!   ::)  Now to figure out where the files I save are going.   :o

      Safe Memorial Day to everyone!

Pat: I see - you meant dental student.  Jerry was quick to pick up on that.

Beverly:  My sympathy to you on the loss of your father-in-law.

We returned this afternoon after spending two nights with our daughter-in-law & young grandson.  What a pleasure to meet with all the children for pizza one night.  We went to our old church with some of the family members and just astounding as they are one of the fastest growing churches - they are building a huge youth complex with basketball court and three floors for meetings & a video/lecture room.  The music was really wonderful and all new and young people just crowded the church - one of three services.  I was a deacon there once and so happy to see such  terrific growth.

Don unloaded the treadmill into the basement and I guided him but stayed out of the way as sure would not to be crushed by that thing - he is watching baseball now.  It is going to storm any moment.

      Hello Everyone...

I had quite the full day and came home and had a nap!

I'm happy that you spoke to your daughter, Marilyn.  That's encouraging.

Carol, glad I got that straightened out about the student.  Yes, those treadmills sure are heavy.  Mine took two men to bring into the house.   I must get busy and use it more! :o

Hope you can help your friend, Ruth Ann.  It's nice to see our friends online.  Sometimes it's troublesome to them but once it catches on, it's great!

Sounds like you're having a lot of fun with the XP,  :-\

Sorry you lost your best post ever, Etta Sue!  How frustrating!

Today was a good day.  We (Travis, Bernard, and his parents) went riding on the Blue Ridge Parkway to Mount Mitchell (the highest point east of the Mississippi River).  It was cold up there.  Trav seemed to enjoy it.  Of course, give him rocks to throw and he would enjoy anyhting.  :-\

I am really tired, though.  Back to "normal," relatively speaking, tomorrow.

Have a good evening; I'm gonna go peek into the other stuff.

Chapin and I both thank you all for your kind words of comfort. We are grateful that we had Dad in our lives for so many years and very thankful that he was well for most of that time. He was a special person and we'll miss him.  He knew, as a Christian, where he was going and he was ready

We'll be flying to Vermont on Wednesday. For various reasons, the funeral isn't till Thursday.

Janice here, how long has it been?  Seems like the days all run together for me.
I hope all of you are doing well.  I have to admit that I have not read today's posts, and I am composing this on my notepad.  For some reason, I have lost several posts before I can get them finalized on the actual CP site.  Does anyone else have this problem?

Earl is better each day, he still has a little swelling in his feet and ankles though. He is keeping his feet elevated as much as possible.  We go back to Amarillo this Friday for a checkup.  Does anyone know about heart failure, does one ever get "over it?"  Or is it just a matter of control.  My mother had this, but she was so ill by the time we knew it, she only lived about 6 weeks.

We were able to go to church yesterday, it felt like forever since we had been there.  When you love to go to the Lord's house, don't you miss it so much when you are unable to go?  Oh my!

The last couple or three days I have felt like a bundle of nerves, this has all sort of caught up with me I think.  I am supposed to see my local doctor this Thursday to get the report on those two scopes I had done on May 6th.  My two earlier appts had to be postponed, as we were in Amarillo at that time.  I have a feeling he is going to bring up surgery again, but I just don't have time to think about that.  Have lived with acid reflux so many years, it seems like a yo-yo to have to deal with it again.

Talk to you later!  Hope all of you are doing well.
      In Christian love,   Janice

This is the day the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.   Ps 118:24

Oh, dear Janice...  I'd love to be able to say that you get over congestive heart failure but I have no idea.  I know that Jack didn't.  He had it for several years.  I expect that if you can have various bypass operations and stents put in, etc. that this will help but sometime the heart is in no condition for these operations.

Janice we'll just keep on praying for Earl.  The Lord is able.
