Morning Devotional

It's All About Jesus

John 16:27 - "For the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me, and have believed that I came forth from God." In 2 Cor. 4:6, Paul said, "For it is God Who commanded light to shine out of darkness, Who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ."

These two verses of  Scripture are the key to Christian faith.  The most important thing for me in life is certainty that the Father loves me.  If He loves me, I am bound for glory.  If He does not love me, then I'm bound for Hell.  Which is it for you?  You can know. Jesus told us that being loved by the Father is dependent upon loving Jesus Christ and believing He came from the Father.  If you love Him you will want to please Him.  Do you?

Living For Jesus

Living for Jesus a life that is true;
striving to please him in all that I do,
yielding allegiance, gladhearted and free,
this is the pathway of blessing for me.

Refrain:
O Jesus, Lord and Savior,
I give myself to thee;
for thou, in thy atonement,
didst give thyself for me;
I own no other master,
my heart shall be thy throne,
My life I give, henceforth to live,
O Christ for thee alone.

Living for Jesus who died in my place,
bearing on Calvary my sin and disgrace,
such love constrains me to answer his call,
follow his leading and give him my all.

Refrain

Living for Jesus wherever I am,
doing each duty in his holy hame,
willing to suffer affliction or loss,
deeming each trial a part of my cross.

Refrain

Living for Jesus through earth's little while,
my dearest treasure, the light of his smile,
seeking the lost ones he died to redeem,
bringing the weary to find rest in him.

May 30 - A Day to Remember

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the Lord throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever" (Exodus 12:14).

The above command was given to the children of Israel by God through Moses, as He was preparing to lead them away from slavery in Egypt into the Promised Land to establish their own free nation. On that day, an angel of death would slay every first-born son in Egypt, except that he would "pass over" the homes of the Israelites because of the blood of a slain lamb sprinkled on the lintels and door posts of their houses. That particular date would thereafter be made an annual "memorial day," called Passover, throughout future generations.

Our forefathers, who established our own U.S.A. nation, often felt that there was a kind of spiritual analogy between the deliverance of Israel from Egypt and our deliverance from a despotic king in England via our War of Independence. Memorial Day (originally called Decoration Day) was established about the time of the Civil War as a special holiday honoring those who had died in a war fighting to establish or preserve our freedoms.

Just as Israel often forgot to observe their Passover memorial day in later generations, however, so the purpose of our own Memorial Day often is forgotten, with the day being used by most as just another holiday for travel and recreation.

This should indeed be a day to remember and honor all those who have fought and died to maintain our land of the free. If we forget them, we may also soon forget their God and our God, who is the ultimate giver of freedom. We must never forget the sober and fearful warning of Psalm 9:17: "The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God." HMM

Good Morning: I am here AL.

My landlord came over Saturday and mowed the front lawn for me. I am so grateful that he did that. It was thigh high. He told me he could guarantee me another 3 1/2 months here if I needed it to find a place.

The earth movers were not operation over the week end but the big water truck was wetting down the  loose dirt.  The huge equipment is all parked right outside my house.

I took Happy  for a walk yesterday all around here where they changes are taking place, we walked on the roads they are building. It is amazing how deep the dig out for the
roads.

Not much has happened here or at your place since I last posted.  It was a sleepy evening.  I went to sleep watching TV so decided to hop in bed a little early.

While I was reading the Bible this morning, my two girls decided to watch Kitty TV.  Ali does the clicking noise when she sees something.  Inky just wags her tail real hard.  Well, both of them were clicking and wagging.  I eased off the couch to see what they were seeing.  A chipmunk!  I have a brick planter about 5 feet from the front window and there sat a cute little chipmunk.  It just sat there and looked around...looked right at Ali and Inky...as if to say...you can't get me.  I opened the front door and that little chipmunk came right up to the front door and only the glass was separating the girls from the chipmunk.  Funny.

I have a pot of bean soup on the stove so I called Ivalou, Kaye Don and Barb over for lunch at noon.  Now to fix some cornbread and cut up some onions.  We also like catsup on our beans with cornbread and onions mixed in.  How do all of you eat bean soup?  What do you like with it?

I have been having open windows but since Kaye Don is coming, I decided to turn on the A/C and my air purifier...he is allergic to cats!!!  Besides it is cloudy and looks like rain.  It did rain during the night but no wind so I left the windows open.

Gotta go get caught up so I can get the cornbread in the oven.

Hi everyone.  Just back from coffee.  We had to meet at McDonald's this morning as the Cafe was closed for the holiday.

We had a lot of rain yesterday afternoon and during the night and it is suppose to rain for the next couple of days.  We really needed the moisture.  I went to bed last night around 8 pm as wasn't feeling at all well yesterday.  I noticed that my ankles were swollen some so took a diauretic and lost 7 pounds over night.  I think maybe the fluid was crowding my heart and it just couldn't pump the fluid off quickly enough.  I had a "heart ache" all day long.  Happy to say I do feel better today if a bit tired.  The housekeeper is here today and I don't think we will be going anywhere so can rest this afternoon.  I have to finish the preparations on the laptop we are sending to Pat's aunt as want to get it sent tomorrow.  Just have a few more things to do and it will be ready.

Etta Sue, the bean soup sounds good.  Hope you all have a nice lunch.

Marilyn, it sounds like you have a little more leaway in finding a place to move.  Hope something shows up soon.

Al and Marilyn, thanks for the devotional thoughts for today.

karmat

I'm here!  I'm here!

Marilyn, glad to hear you've got a little more time.

Larry, ouchie.  7 pounds.  wow.  Get some rest, okay?

Etta, by bean soup, do you mean pinto beans?  or something like that?  I like pinto beans with mayo, cornbread, and onions.  Or, leaving off the mayo is fine, too.  I honestly don't eat them much, and fix them less.  There is a joke at mom's about eating pinto beans every night growing up.  My parents were separated, and money was scarce.  My mom swears we didn't, but all of us (well, the three older ones) remember eating pinto beans alot.

Have a great day.  I have to work (but I told my students we weren't having class because I thought we weren't -- oops), but Bernard is off and he took Travis to play his first round of golf.  Maybe Travis will be the next Tiger, and I can retire to Pebble Beach or sumtin.  hahahahhahahhaha

Have a good un!

My hubby grew up in a poor home, too, so I could never cook white beans, or oatmeal, or have peanut butter for the kids, or have corn flakes, or purchase spam. These were daily staples at his home (oatmeal in winter, corn flakes in summer).

Isn't it interesting how our early life experiences really do tend to color our thinking the remainder of our days.

My prayers for your friend in photography cafe, Pat. And, I would have loved to attend the Scottish wedding.

Karma and those of you with young children, I'm thankful that you have the wonderful families you have. I wouldn't have the energy to rear children now, but felt almost always energetic and strong as they were growing up. God really knew what He was doing by planning for the younger folk to have the children.

My son and I are planning lots of "honey-doo" jobs for both of us today while I have the holiday.

Larry, I truly hope you feel better - most likely the large loss in weight also pulled down your potassium a bit, which will certainly help you to feel more tired.

Al, is the leg doing better? And Judy, how about your arm? And Janet, I'm so sorry Beth is continuing to have her problems.

Jane and Nita, how're the posters in Oregon? Marilyn, thankfully you have more time to explore your options in obtaining a new home.

I know I've not mentioned everyone, but want each of you to know I love you with the love of our Lord.

Ruth Ann

Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for
necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers....
neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which
are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.
--Ephesians 4:29; 5:4
One of the most shocking things in the church is the dirty-mouthed
Christian who always walks on the borderline. There is no place for
borderline stories that embarrass some people, and there is nothing
about sex or the human body that is funny if your mind is clean.
There was once a gathering of officers, and George Washington was
present in the room. One of the young officers began to think about
a dirty story that he wanted to tell, and he got a smirk on his
face. He looked around and said, "I'm thinking of a story. I guess
there are no ladies present." Washington straightened up and said,
"No, young man, but there are gentlemen." The young officer shut
his mouth and kept the dirty story inside his dirty head and heart.

I'll never be tempted to share it inappropriately. Amen."

What a busy weekend we have had!  Whew! 8)  The all school reunion was very nice, and most of the surviving members of Darrel's class were there.  Some had grandkids graduating from HS, weddings, etc.  No date will ever be perfect for everyone, but they had a good time visiting, reminiscing, sharing photos, etc.  Darrel's older brother was here, and brought his step-daughter who is now 26 years old.  She has grown up into a lovely young woman, and our boys enjoyed spending some time with her---even though she really startled them by walking up and giving each of them (at different time) a big hug and a kiss on the cheek!  Curtis and Mark had not seen Marie for at least 14 years, and had no idea who she was at first!  :o It was so funny to see the expressions on their faces---wish I had had my camera at the ready!

Yesterday after church we went back to the civic center with some food and had lunch with the alumni.  Then to the Rec. center for Mom's birthday party.  We had a really good turnout, all of my siblings were there and quite a few of the grand and great grandkids.  I think Mom enjoyed it a lot.

My friend had scraped all the yucky, ugly icing off that cake and redid it in white and bright pink, and it looked lovely.  And they ate every last bit of it, so no left-overs to worry with!  ;D  My eldest sister and her husband spent the night with us, and that was nice.  After they left this morning, I went to my sister Jeanie's and played dodge ball with my niece's kids, so I got some good exercise.

Then I drove out to the cemetery for the military rites.  How I love and respect our Veterans, God bless them every one!

About Bean soup---I guess some people call what we always knew as just beans, bean soup.  When I was growing up, and we still had a wringer washing machine and clothesline; we always had pinto beans and cornbread on washday.  I don't like my cornbread IN my beans, just WITH them.  I also like some onion chopped up in the beans; and I enjoy "chow-chow" with them.  But I haven't made any of that for some years, so we don't have any now.  Darrel and I both like beans, and they are good protein.  He likes butter beans, and I say "YUCK."  :P  Funny, but the things I ate growing up, I still like.  But I understand it isn't that way with some people, they never want to eat that stuff again!

We always had a last day of school picnic, the whole school would go to the hills or canyons and have a picnic.  Guess what foods I waited and looked forward to the whole year?  Pork and beans and potato chips!  ;D  We never had those things at our house, because they had to be bought.  We ate what we raised in the garden and the livestock we raised, so had wonderful food, but not the same as the "town kids" ate.  It's fun to reminisce, isn't it?

Marilyn

I am home form work early today as  am doing versal's laundry here at my house.

I don't remember eating a lot of beans growning up but since I married the first time at 16 I guesss maybe I did eat a lot of bean growing up. We had beans every beans tortilla and mexican rice, hamburger and hot dogs were the only meat we had. Before I got married we had really good food, at home it was a lot of Italian stuff and at my grandma's and other relatives where I was most of the time other than the dependant children's home during the school year, we ate what we grew chickens, rabbits, veggies and home made breads, and just regular food from the store.

After eating beans every day while I was married to Frank I didn't eat beans unless in a Mexican restaurant. I have just started cooking them again int he last year.

Thanks for that lovely photo, Janet.  Do you remember going out and taking a photo for me to make a banner for SeniorNet?  It's the one that's showing today.

Welcome back home, Chris.  Hope you had a nice time away.  What part of Wales did you go to?

Hi Marilyn and Ruth Ann.

Carol, were you travelling today?

Al, thanks so much for that wonderful devotional.  That was a good one for us today.

So many of our numbers are missing.  Today, I've been thinking a lot of Ken over in Yorkshire.  I hope he's well.

Talk to you later,

Yes, I do remember that, Pat, and thanks for mentioning it.  It prompted me to go to Sr. Net and catch up on all my subscriptions.  It had been a while.

For some reason, I am not getting email notifications for NEM.  I get them for the other threads.  ???

I am going to Photos and post a couple of shots from yesterday.

I came back to edit and add that the photos are HERE[/color]

Hi all u all

We did not get the rain that was promised, but it has been a very nice day and not too hot.

Al, that was a great devotional today.  As I was reading it, the verse from John 6:44 came to mind:  "No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day."

Once upon a time we were discussing just how we could know we are going to Heaven.  It was mixed in with some talk of election and etc.
Al, You gave me John 6:44 and that was enough for me.

If we believe in Jesus as the son of God then we know we have been drawn to Him by the Father.
Thanks for the devotional today.

Now about those beans and bean soup.  I like catsup and cornbread with Navy beans.  I like Pintos, but they are meant to be cooked with a little pork and seasoning.  No catsup with Pintos.   ;D ;D

Chris, I have visited Wales a few time several years ago.  I had a big problem pronouncing the roads and streets, it seemed they always left out the vowels.  ;D

Pat, thank you again for getting me back on this site.

Even before I got back on I was  getting a warning every time I booted up that scares me a little, but I figure if it goes out again I will get another computer as they seem to be getting cheaper now than ever.

The warning goes like this:  "Drive O on the primary EIDE controller is operating outside of normal specifications.  It is advisible to immediately back up your data and replace your hard disk drive by calling your support desk or Dell Computer Corporation."

Have a good evening all.

Boots I would advise you to call Dell and back up your files right away. They can talk you through it . I stand by the Dell techs they are very good. They have helped me  with some complicated stuff and made it so easy to do.
