Morning Devotional...





"He that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways."

What happens when you hesitate to do something God has told you to do? Your adversary takes the first step. The devil gets the jump on you.

If you want to live by faith, hesitation is one of the most hazardous habits you could ever have. It comes from being indecisive. The Bible says a man like that is "unstable and unreliable and uncertain about everything he thinks, feels, decides" (The Amplified Bible).

If you are double-minded, the decisions you make are split. You try to live by faith and protect your fear at the same time. You make faith statements like "I believe God is going to heal me." Then your fear whispers, "But I wouldn't want to say I'm well just yet." You're so busy going back and forth between faith and fear, you can't make any progress at all.

Kick the habit of hesitation today. Make a solid decision to trust in and act on the Word of God. Settle it forever. Resolve never to entertain doubts again. When doubt comes to your mind, cast it out quickly.

When God speaks, don't waste a moment. Step right out in faith. That way, you can always keep the devil a step behind you!

I've just finished reading the book of James in a Bible with parallel translation - The NIV and The Message.

Goodness, that Message is certainly very plain spoken!

It certainly gave me lots to consider.

Today would have been my parents 58th Wedding anniversary, if they both were still living.  The last one they had together was 48, but I still remember them on their anniversary.

Dad will have been gone 10 yrs on the 17th and Mom went to be with him 5yrs in October.  Oh, how I still miss them both, but rejoice in knowing where they are!

Seems I've got more to do today than time to do it.  New flowers for grave marker, house cleaning  :P, regular work, and life in general, plus trying to amuse two kids!
Oh the joys of parenting, or especially, being the mother!  Wouldn't trade anything for it!

Hope everyone has a super day in the Lord!

Samantha, I understand about missing your parents.  My dad had a heart attack on June 1, 1999, and went into a coma.  May 31st marks the last time I had a conversation with him. :(

Anyway, like you, I rejoice in knowing where he is and that he is healthy and whole now.

May 31 - The Bible Stands!

"Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever" (Psalm 119:160).

Very few books survive very long. Only a few survive past the first printing, and science books especially get out of date in just a few years.

But one book is eternal! The Bible stands! Even its most ancient chapters are still accurate and up to date. Furthermore, despite all the vicious attacks of both ancient pagans and modern humanists, it will continue to endure. Jesus said: "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away" (Matthew 24:35; Mark 13:31; Luke 21:33). Even after everything else dies and all the bombastic tirades of skeptics and secularists are long forgotten, the Word endures. "The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever" (Isaiah 40:8 ).

Note the oft-repeated testimony to this same effect in Psalm 119. In addition to the comprehensive promise of today's text, this great "psalm of the word" also contains these affirmations: "For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven. . . . Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage for ever: for they are the rejoicing of my heart. . . . The righteousness of thy testimonies is everlasting: . . . Concerning thy testimonies, I have known of old that thou hast founded them for ever" (Psalm 119:89,111,144,152). Founded forever, inherited forever, settled forever, lasting forever! God is eternal, and His Word was true from the beginning.

Men may, in these last days, arrogantly think they can "take away from the words of the book of this prophecy" (Revelation 22:19), but such presumption will only "take away [their] part out of the book of life," and the Bible will still stand. "The word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you" (I Peter 1:25). HMM

Tony and Charlene came yesterday with his battery tester.  I had a bad battery in the Craftman mower.  He and Charlene went to Noblesville and got me a new battery.  We didn't get the wireless remote fixed on the door.  Needs a new remote or just get another key made and hide it outside!  That would be cheaper.

The bean soup was great.  I didn't have any ham so I just used some bacon drippings.  Also I use a jar of Mixed Beans, then opened up a can of Pinto beans and Great Northern beans.  The cornbread...it was scratch made by the recipe Mom gave me when I first married in 1960.  So we had a colorful meal. 

Then Kaye Don and Barb asked Ivalou and I to their house last evening for a cookout for Kaye Don's birthday...today.  Several were there and after eating six of us played cards...'Hand and Foot'.  Fun evening.

Then Kaye Don called this morning and Ivalou, Kaye Don, Barb and I are going out to eat for Kaye Don's 70th Birthday.  I don't know what to get hungry for...he didn't say where we were going.  I have to be at their house in less than an hour!!

Fun weekend.

Does this feel like Monday to anyone else?  I will have to get my mind fixed on the fact that it is Tuesday, or I might miss doing something I'm supposed to do!  ;D

Ruth, sorry if I messed you up last night.  I only closed the door about 20 miinutes earlier than I usually do.  I am not a stay up late person, as I get up fairly early in the morning and usually don't slow down all day, so by then I am ready to hit the hay.  :)

It feels like Monday to me too, even though yesterday was a fairly normal Monday for me. 

I have to take Kristi to the doctor in a few minutes :(.  Hopefully, all will be okay.  Say a small prayer, though, will ya?  Her normal well-baby appointment is in two weeks, but Bernard really didn't want me to wait that long.  The child simply does not have normal bowel movements, unless we take drastic measures.  When I called the dr. this morning, the nurse started telling me things to do, and I was like "done that." "did that" "tried that."  Finally, she said, "hold please" and came back and said, "since I am out of ideas, you get to see the doctor."  That can't be good.  anyway.  so this afternoon, we get to see the doctor.  i'm thrilled -- not.

I'll let you know what happens.

Hi everyone.  Just up from a two hour nap.  I didn't sleep well last evening so was tired today.  I accidently took a pain pill, trying to stop the chest pain yesterday, and I had an allergic reaction to it and different locations on my body itched all night long.  It had codiene in it and guess I am allergic to that drug. 

Karmat, sure will be watching for the news concerning your baby.  Hope it is just one of those childhood things that they get over quickly.  However, you are wise to seek attention now and now wait for two weeks.

I got the computer mailed off today for Pat's aunt.  She is flying home to Florida tomorrow from Delaware and the computer will be delivered on Thursday sometime.  Know she is looking forward to getting it.  I sure hope it gives her many, many hours of enjoyment.

Etta Sue, you all really know how to celebrate a birthday.  It sounds like you all are having a great time.

Janet, thanks for the uplighting devotional thought today. 

Ruth Ann, I believe you mentioned reading a book of the Bible in the "Message" translation.  That version is available onlinen at Bible Gateway along with many other versions.  The search feature will quickly look up any passagefor you.

Guess I had better get busy and do some work on my church website.  It is the beginning of a new month and there is always a lot to get posted to bring it up to date.  Plan to take the rest of the day pretty easy although a friend just now called and wanted us to go out to eat with them.  It will depend on how Pat's feeling in a little while.

Because we are the kind of persons we are and because we live in a
world such as we do, the shepherd of souls is often forced to work
at what would appear to be cross purposes with himself.
For instance, he must encourage the timid and warn the self-
confident; and these may at any given time be present in his
congregation in almost equal numbers....
Another problem he faces is the presence in the normal Christian
assembly of believers in every stage of development, from the
newly converted who knows almost nothing about the Christian life
to the wise and experienced Christian who seems to know almost

Again, the Christian minister must have a word from God for the
teen-aged, the middle-aged and the very aged. He must speak to the
scholar as well as to the ignorant; he must bring the living Word
to the cultured man and woman and to the vulgarian who reads
nothing but the sports page and the comic strip. He must speak to
the sad and to the happy, to the tender-minded and to the tough-
minded, to those eager to live and to some who secretly wish they
could die. And he must do this all in one sermon and in a period
of time not exceeding 45 minutes. Surely this requires a Daniel,
and Daniels are as scarce in the United States today as in
Babylon in 600 B.C.  The Set of the Sail, 82-83.

Hello everyone.  The doctor gave Kristi a medicine to try.  It ends in "-ose" so it is a sugar based thing that is supposed to assist in elimination.  If that doesn't work, he will prescribe another one, and fi that doesn't work, he will refer her to a GI specialist.  She's only had one dose, and it takes a couple of days ot "start" so I'll keep ya'll updated.

I'm not sure where the day went.  I'm still looking for lunch :/ . . .

Hi from the island.  Interesting posts...finally finished reading the past few days!  Thanks for all the devotionals and music.

Sat. was the big Graduation Celebration for Amanda and friends.  They still go to school in June and do the real ceremony when school ends.  This was the dry grad. and celebration with students.  Her friends ( plus parents) met here, took pictures, then went to the school in a classic convertible belonging to one of the relatives.  Some went in horse and buggies, other classic old cars, etc.  From the school they went by bus to a big dinner and dance at a lovely place in Victoria.  Then back to one of the parents for another party.  Think it was a great success.  I will post a couple of pictures later....

I went to Victoria yest. to do a little shopping and get a birthday gift for Wendy.  Did lots of walking around as it was a lovely day down by the water.  Now paying the price as it makes my body rebel.  Oh well, going for another scan on Thursday and maybe they will find something to help....or not....

The flowers are so lovely in the garden now.  I will post some pictures soon.  Plan to sit outside on nice days and do my watercolors....if Misty will keep her nose out of stuff.  That darn cat :-\

June 1 - Obedience and Righteousness

"For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous" (Romans 5:19).

Certainly the focal point of all history and the climax of Christ's earthly ministry was His sacrificial death on the cross. Christ knew from ages past what was in store for Him, and yet He was "obedient unto death, even the death of the cross" (Philippians 2:8 ).

However, as we see in our text, Christ's obedience included more than His death, for He was perfectly obedient throughout His entire life. Indeed, it is a good thing, for any act of disobedience would have invalidated His sacrificial death. Animal sacrifices in the Old Testament (which prefigured the final sacrifice of Christ) had to be "without blemish" (Leviticus 22:19). But even a perfect animal was not enough (Hebrews 10:4) to satisfy God's justice and take away sins. "Ye were not redeemed with corruptible things. . . . But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot" (I Peter 1:18-19).

Christ's obedience, therefore, consisted not only of His obedience in death, but in His entire earthly life—from His incarnation, "I come . . . to do thy will, O God" (Hebrews 10:7)—to His childhood, "[Know] ye not that I must be about my Father's business?" (Luke 2:49)—to His healing and teaching ministry among the people, "I must work the works of Him that sent me" (John 9:4)—to His preparation for death, "nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done" (Luke 22:42).

Now, in His obedience, Christ calls us to a life of similar obedience. "Though He were a Son, yet learned He obedience by the things which He suffered; And being made perfect, He became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey Him" (Hebrews 5:8-9). JDM

Does anyone have the guitar chords for the old hymn "Fill Me now".? I have made a request for the worship team to do that song but no one knoes how it goes. I sang parts of it for them and the worship leader didn't know the song, He doesn't read music so the Hymnal didn't do me a bit of good. Hey Nards Help.

Pat:  You asked if we were travelling and I guess we were as we came back home over two mountain passes and the temperature was so cold that it was almost snowing.  We had children travelling on airplanes and so forth - I think travel now is so treacherous that it all needs urgent prayers.   :(

Karmat:  I don't know exactly what the problems with your darling Kristi could be but here is a tip from a mom of four (old advice) and I used to massage my children to soothe them as they went to sleep - from the time they were babes.  Just a light touch to help them relax.  I don't know if this has any bearing on your Kristi's problem - maybe more fruit?

I am still trying to learn a sewing machine & they have a class scheduled in two weeks - oh, yea!

Carol, actually she sleeps rather well.  She does like to have her eyebrows rubbed though, as she is going to sleep.  She hasn't started on solid foods, yet (in a couple of weeks we will start her on some of that cardboard cereal stuff), so I am tryign to get this as straightened out as possible before that. Thanks for offering though.  I'll definitely keep it in mind.

Hey, Y'all!  Busy day---swimming, taking Beth for more X-rays, now have to run as the Red Hats are going to Johnson (about 20 miles) for lunch today and I am taking my car.

Please pray for Beth's friend John.  His mother passed away yesterday morning.  John will miss her terribly, as he has lived with her his entire life.

Still cool, damp and cloudy here, we have had almost 2" of rain the past several days.  Should be wonderful on the crops, and sure helps our watering situation too.  Thanks, God.  ;D

Gotta go, be back later, though.  Pat had to do some traveling to help her son Ian, so keep her in your prayers, too, please.

hey everyone, been awhile since i've been in here been busy with youth activities work and getting rest from vacation.... isn't it funny how you always need a Rest after vacation?? i find it amusing. monday our youth group went to Lake Ute in Logan New Mexico, we tubed and waterskiied.... i managed to hurt my shoulder even more so i am supposed to rest it but i haven't really done that with work and all.... well i need to be off ttyl

Later Ivalou and I went to Fortville and picked up Jerry!   :o  :o  I know that is what Ivalou thought when I told her what I was going to do.  But it seems that Lynn hasn't been back to get Jerry's ashes so since I am going to Ohio and will be within 7 miles of Lynn, I picked up Jerry and I am taking him to Lynn. Sounds like some of Jerry's warped sense of humor has rubbed off on me, doesn't it?

So I won't be online until Saturday afternoon or evening.  I will be gone to see my three great-nieces in a Dance Recital and maybe watch my great-nephew pitch in baseball if it doesn't rain.

So hold the fort down for me. 

Karma ~ I forgot to mention that I am sorry Kristi is having some problems.  It is hard on Mommies and Daddies when their little one isn't doing okay.  They are too little to tell you what is going on.  Just have faith in God and the doctors to do what is needed.  She will be fine.  Maybe some cardboard cereal is just what she needs!!

Sarah ~ Yes, rest after a vacation is a must.  Sounds like you need rest.  Believe it or not, you are NOT unbreakable.  You need to take caution when it is due.  Mighty woman, you ain't!  Hahaha!

Kristi is in my thoughts and prayers, too, Karma.  Beth had that problem a LOT when she was a baby, and I was told to massage her little tummy.  It did help sometimes.  I hope the meds work for Kristi.  (((hugs)))

Etta Sue, I love your sense of humor, and the card for your brother was a gem!  I wouldn't have thought of so many adjectives in a week, I don't think!  ;D

Our red hat luncheon was fun.  We went to an old 1950s drugstore that still has the original soda fountain.  They serve nice sandwiches, salads and fancy desserts.  I had a spicy roast beef on a croissant, it had cream cheese and green chiles on it, with a pasta salad of spaghetti, grape tomatoes, celery, peppers, etc.  Really good.  Also a REAL vanilla Dr. Pepper made with syrup and carbonated water, YUM!  Hadn't tasted one of those in many years!  Then three berry pie and coffee.  I am stuffed.  We also went into a couple little shops there to look around, and I bought a handmade kaleidoscope from Parman Brothers.  They make those, all different kinds, and ship them all over the world.  I have been wanting one for years, and these were "seconds" though I could see nothing wrong with it, and they let us have them at wholesale cost less a good discount.  Yea!  I think I will give it to Darrel for Father's Day.  (I can still enjoy it!) Hehehehe.

Sarah, Etta Sue is right---you are not indestructible!  So take a little better care of yourself.  You don't want to have problems later because of something you did when you were young and felt invulnerable!

Etta Sue---love those doggies!  ;D  We have had several dauchunds, and loved them.

I'm always tired after vacation, as well.  It usually has to do with a pile of laundry, though. :)

Janet (and others) thank you for your prayers for little Kristi.  One reason we are a bit more concerned than we would be normally, is that I had some intestinal problems as an infant and it was a near fatal experience for me.  We are trying to be proactive in case it is a genetic situation.

I am so sorry to hear about John's mother.  I will remember him in my prayers.

Hi everyone.

It has been a very rainy and chilly day here in Georgia.  Fortunatley I didn't have to go anywhere today and was able to get my church website all updated, paid the bills for the month, and have done several other computer projects.  I am happy to say I have been feeling better and today.  I didn't take the diuretic yesterday but did today as noticed I am starting to cough a little bit, which may be a sign of fluid accumulation that my heart can't pump off.  I had hoped to hear from Birmingham this week but had an e-mail saying the national coordinator is out of the office until next Monday so don't expect to hear anything this week.

Pat attended the Pastor's Wednesday morning Bible study at the church.  It is the first time she has attended this class since our new pastor came at the beginning of the year.  She then went out with the group for coffee.  I was happy to see her feeling up to going out.  Yesterday afternoon friends called and wanted to meet us at a Mexican restruarant for dinner.  We had a very nice time after we got moved from a section of the restruarant that was too chilly to one that was warmer.

Janet, sure sorry to read of John's mother passing away.  Know that will be a hard adjustment for him.  It sounds like you had a very busy and enjoyable day today.

Etta Sue, hope you have a good trip this weekend.  It is nice of you to help Lynn out.

Karmat, sure hope the little one responds to the medicine.  I can understand your concern with your own childhood history.

I'm sniffing and "snuffling" today - my voice was almost to laryngitis, so maybe it's a good thing my fingers can still "talk!"  ::)
