Morning Devotional

Ultimate Joy.

"As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love.  If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love.  These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.  This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.  Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends.  You are My friends if you do whatever I command you."

The Lord Jesus always sought the very best for His disciples, just as His Father always sought the very best for His Son.  That's what love is - it's just seeking the very, very best for the beloved.  You might remember, though, that the Father's will led our Lord to the Cross - to the very utmost in shame, pain, bereavement, alienation, and desolation!  Was that the way the Father loved Him?  YES!!  Remember Hebrews 12:2 - "...looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith, Who for the joy that was set before Him endured the Cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."  What was the "joy that was set before Him?"  It was the salvation and final perfection of every one given to Him by the Father!  His ultimate joy is YOU in your eternal state, your everlasting reflection of the Father's glory!  Even while on the Cross our Lord could look forward to the RESULT of what He was doing.

So we should do as we seek to love His children, those who are still lost and those who have been found.  Then we will be keeping His commandment.  Then we will rejoice with Him!

Amazing Love [/b]
(Click to hear music)

My Lord what love is this?
That paid so dearly
That I, the guilty one, may go free.

Chorus:
Amazing love, oh what sacrifice
The Son of God, given for me
My debt He paid, and my death He died
That I, might live.
That I, might live.

And so, they watched Him die
Despised and rejected
But oh, the blood He shed, flowed for me.

Chorus:
Amazing love, oh what sacrifice
The Son of God, given for me
My debt He paid, and my death He died
That I, might live.
That I, might live.

And now, this love of Christ
Will flow, like rivers
Come wash, your guilt away, And live again.

Chorus:
Amazing love, oh what sacrifice
The Son of God, given for me
My debt He paid, and my death He died
That I, might live.
That I, might live.

hi all!

it's monday, again.  the shufords had a wonderful, though tiring weekend.  travis is a putt putt fanatic!

have a great day!!

Ruth Ann Bice

Good morning, friends,

I'm scurrying around today - a friend's funeral is this afternoon and our church members are planning dinner for the family afterward. So, the potato salad and close slaw are in the making.

Y'all have a wonderful day.

Ruth Ann
...his compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Carol

We were really alone on Mother's Day as the children met us for an early Saturday dinner by driving half way here.  I just want to say that I believe both Mother's Day and Father's Day are hyped too much by mostly the greeting card people and other retail sales.  It is a cruel day for those who cannot have children or who have had problems with children.  I have a very good friend who doesn't know where her son and grandchildren live all because of a silly spat and I wondered how she got through yet another day like this.  She is strong but not in the faith at all.  She knows that I pray for her.  Anyway, just my thoughts - and I have always thought this day after sitting with a young woman years ago in church who had been trying to get pregnant and could not conceive - I was blessed with four children and she had none and we sat through a gushing sweet service for mothers.

Marilyn:  Thanks you for the note on Papa John.

Larry:  Now, that is some Georgia sized breakfast.  I am trying to cut back on salt and salty meat so will forego the ham.  Thank you.

Sue:  I didn't know you had ankle/foot pain.  Yes, an X-ray might be in order.  Take care.

Morning to all.  I have put a new site under favorites and it is called  High Calling of our Daily Work - it looks interesting.  It was one of the ads that I clicked on - be sure to look at ads to  help keep prices down for Pat.

Well, hello everyone...

I've hardly been on any of my websites that I help on!   ::)  Yesterday about lunch time, I was feeling pretty "down" let me tell you.  I hadn't heard from any of my kids.  Horrible when you start to feel sorry for yourself.  Then Andrew, Terena and Rebecca arrived and brought me a gorgous huge candle.  I made some coffee and then Janice and Phil arrived with a beautiful hanging basket with a big mixture in it for my hanger outside.  They visited for several hours and then I had four house guests arrive who will be here for maybe 4 days and so I've hardly been near the computer since Saturday night.  I line up banners for SeniorNet and forgot to do it so the Mother's Day banners are still showing on there.   ;D

Anyway, I have a very few minutes alone here now so thought I'd come and say Hello.

I hope all you mothers had a great day yesterday like I did.  Oh, and I was outside at one point and the phone rang and Rebecca ran to the phone and read me the colour ID number and I didn't recognize it so told her I'd let it go to the answering machine as I didn't feel like running into the house and when i listened to the message, it was my eldest son calling me from Vancouver to say "Happy Mother's Day" and I missed the call!

So it was a nice day.

Oh, now I hear the dog barking so some of my company has arrived back here.

I'll talk to you later.

Marilyn, did you see that I posted Happy's photo in the New Every Morning?

Hi everyone.  Just back from coffee and then taking Pat to the chiropractor.  She was feeling a bit better yesterday but this morning seems to be back to square one.  She can hardly get around.

It is another beautiful day here in Georgia and it is suppose to get up to 80+ today.  We still have not turned on the A/C but they are saying we are to experience more humidity this week so likely well have it on later.

Marilyn, I have looked at the first pictures of "Happy" but haven't seen the ones yet with you in them.  I am glad your son and family came over to see you even if it was for just a brief time.  Carol, I agree with you on the hyping of all of these special days.  We should be honoring our mothers on a daily basis but suppose the special day gives the incentive to do something special.

Ruth Ann, it sounds like you have a busy day planned.

Karmat, glad you had such a nice weekend.  Do you have a golf pro in the making?  :)

Al, thanks for the devotional this morning.

Pat says I need to go to the grocery store so guess I had better be on my way.  Hope everyone has a good day.

Hmmm, sounds like a good retirement plan to me!!

BTW, we did buy him a set of Jr. Clubs.  He seems to enjoy the sport so far.

Janet

Good morning!  Nice to read what all you mothers' kids did for you yesterday.  I didn't hear from any of mine except Beth, she went to church with us and then walked (with her walker) over for lunch, and back home on her own.  That is a big improvement for her.  She is now going to the Wellness Center with us in the mornings, too, and Kristi is really motivating her.  She will listen to Kristi better than me or Darrel.  Sound familiar?

Yes, Nita, Darrel's meatloaf was really good.  He put it in a big roaster and put potatoes and carrots around it.  We also had a nice salad and green beans.  Beth took a plateful home with her for another meal later.

I need to go take Beth to the chiropractor, but will be back later.  Pat, I'm SO glad you had such a nice day, and heard from or saw all of your kids.  That's sweet.  I'm not at all down about not hearing from the others, because I know I am the best Mom I know how to be, and so I refuse to get depressed if they don't do the "expected" thing. ( I did get a really sweet card from Diane and family and she has a gift for me, too.)

What a wonderful day we have warm and lots of sun.

I have nothing special on the list of to - do's this day, I think that I will be lazy and enjoy the sun.

Soon it will be time to leave for work.

Janet

WOO-HOO!!! I am jazzed!  Darrel and I went back to have Kristi weigh and measure us, and I have lost 3% of body fat, and a total of 3 3/4 inches! (No pounds, though.  Guess I am still eating too much.  :P)

The chiropractor told Beth that he doesn't think he is going to be able to help her.  He will give her a couple more adjustments and then decide.

Ruth, the weather is really beautiful here, too!  Warm, sunshine, and NO WIND!!  The kind of day that gives me a feeling of well-being.  ;D

I am going to move my sewing machine and a few more things, so we can get back to work on the tiling job tomorrow.  We have let it go too long already, and need to get it finished.

Ha! Jane had Mexican by herself and I went to White Castles!!  I don't know if White Castles are west of the Mississippi yet or not.  We used to take coolers-full of White Castles when we went to New Mexico to visit friends.  Anyway they are little square hamburger patties with 6 small holes in them, steam fried with lots of cut-up onions served with a pickle on a small square bun.  I had four of them with Onion Chips and a drink.  Love them!

I used to feel weird eating out alone but I don't anymore.  And unlike Nita, I feel I eat better, nutritious food when I eat out especially when it is salads.  If I bought all that stuff to eat salad at home, I would have to eat salad every meal for a week or some of it would be spoiled.  If I can't nuke it at home, then I don't fix it for myself.  That is why I liked Jerry to eat with me.  I cooked!

My niece brought me my candle order that I got from her Candle Party.  We talked for awhile and I followed her out on my deck.  When we got to the front, she said 'Aunt Etta, you have a package!'  Sure enough...from Tony and Charlene.  It was a box of individually wrapped cookies, brownies, bread etc.  I don't know when it was delivered....Friday?  Saturday?  I seldom go to the front of my house.  Then Tony called me on the phone to wish me Happy Mother's Day.  They were home from their bike ride...500+ miles in two days and were going somewhere for ice cream on the bike.  So I didn't see him.

Today I went to the bank, the drug store, stopped at a high school classmates and came home and mowed my yard.  I then went back to town and got a Subway sandwich.  I talked to Ivalou some and now I am ready for a nap.  Last night wasn't a good sleeping night.  I kept thinking about all that went on the last couple of months and coughing a lot.  I am tired of this cough...brought it home from Florida with me March 5.  So I have some more drugs in hope to get rid of the cough once and for all!

Time to go...I feel a nap coming on....

Preaching: A Shell Here and a Shell There

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory,
the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and
truth.
--John 1:14

None of us can approach a serious study and consideration of the
eternal nature and person of Jesus Christ without sensing and
confessing our complete inadequacy in the face of the divine
revelation....

What should we do, then?

All we can hope to do is to toddle along on our short legs and gaze
heaven-ward, like a goose whose wings have been clipped but whose
heart is in the sky. Those wings just will not take her there.

Now, I have said all of this because my best faith and my loftiest
expectation do not allow me to believe that I can do justice to a
text that begins: And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us
(John 1:14) and concludes: No man hath seen God at any time; the
only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath
declared him (John 1:18).

This is what we will attempt to do: we will walk along the broad
seashore of God and pick up a shell here and a shell there,
holding each up to the light to admire its beauty. While we may
ultimately have a small store of shells to take with us, they can
but remind us of the truth and the fact that there stretches the
vastness of the seashore around the great lips of the oceans--and
that still buried there is far more than we can ever hope to find
or see!  Christ the Eternal Son, 9-11.

"Lord, I glory in the shells I'm looking at this morning--and
revel in the vastness of the seashore around me! Amen."

Well at least we're Happy about it.

Liz

Hi from a sunny island.  I have read all the interesting posts and thanks Pastor Al for the devotional.  Like the music....

Have been busy and not at the top of form, so have not posted lately.  Mothers Day was nice.  Did not go out this time as the kids went to a family barbeque in the afternoon.  Got nice cards and a lovely gift of my fav. Shalimar cologne.  Have worn this for years....Cooked dinner for Amanda as she stayed home to do some school work and we watched a little TV together.

Wendy is not well today and I am going to make a light supper for the three of us as SIL at work and not able to get home.  I always make dinner on Sat. and seem to be getting double duty this month.  Ok as it give me an excuse to practise my cooking!

Must go and get started now.  Will come back to view the pictures later.  Happy is a handsome fellow, Marilyn.  I will check on the others pictures this evening.

God Bless,

Liz
