Morning Devotional...

Angels
(https://www.christianphotographers.com/images/jasForum.jpg)

Angels, Angels, Angels. The ubiquitous angel. We find them in the Avon catalogue, in the jewellery shop window, and on the covers of glossy and not so glossy magazines. People claim to talk to angels, receive messages from angels and have angel companions. Many of those who pay great attention to the angelic hosts, oddly enough have little time for the Creator of angels or for His precious Word.

The reality of angels is not to be doubted. There are frequent references to them in the Bible. In fact, if you are interested in numbers, angels are mentioned 108 times in the Old Testament and 165 times in the New Testament. The writer to the Hebrews reminds Christians that "Ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels." [/b](Hebrews 12:22).

Yes, indeed there are angels, but how did they come into existence, what is their function and what is their relationship to the Eternal Son of God?

David, King of Israel reminds us in Psalm 148 that God created all things in heaven and on earth. Verses 2 and 5 read as follows, "Praise ye Him, all His angels: praise ye Him all His hosts. Let them praise the name of the Lord; for He commanded and they were created."

Paul the Apostle assures us in Colossians 1 that this one who created all that "IS" was the Son of God. "For by Him were all things created that are in heaven and that are in earth visible and invisible".[/b] (For the context, it is suggested that Colossians 1:12-19 be read).

These heavenly created beings have many tasks to perform, ranging from chanting the praises of the triune God to executing judgment on fallen angels and those among humankind who reject the saving work of the Lord Jesus Christ. One of their principle activities is to minister to God's people. "Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister to them who shall be heirs of salvation?"[/b] (Hebrews 1:14)

Some people have tried to teach that Jesus Christ is an angelic being, the first created being and therefore the chief angel. Nothing could be further from the truth. The book of Hebrews in the New Testament (Hebrews 1:5-14) makes it very, very clear that while angels are created beings, the Son of God is the King Eternal uncreated and without beginning.

It is this same Jesus who became a man, lived a sinless life and has become the sacrifice for sin for all who will believe in Him. "Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God." (Romans 3:25)

Just a word of warning: not all angels are good. There are fallen angels too. These are enemies of God and of the souls of humans. Those who feel that they receive guidance from angels need to be very careful. Should anyone, human or angelic point you to any other source other than Christ for salvation or direct you to take actions condemned in the word of God, flee from that being and turn quickly to Jesus Christ the Saviour of men.

"I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel which is not another: but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed." [/b](Galatians 2:6-9 New King James).

Jack Scott loved his Lord! He passed away on January 10, 2001 after a lengthy illness.
He is missed greatly by his family.

Good Morning Pat,
I like your devotional on Angels, I try to always remember to ask God to place a hedge of Angels around my children or my family. I think I remember this mostly when I see them get into a car ;)

I believe there are evil angels also (demons), cause if God has angels, you gotta think Satan has tried to do the same thing as God.

Make sense?

Has anyone ever read "This Present Darkness" by Frank Peretti? I have read it several times and it seems to put things into perspective sometimes for me, like spiritual warfare. Hmmmm, after today maybe I should read it again, has been a yucky day for me, but is better now that I came to CP! Thanks ya'll!

Goodmorning all.

Dark and cold here this morning....well it is Winter!

Thank you for that lovely devotional of Jack's Pat.  I just tried to copy it and the printer has the gremlins.  I will have Chris try it for me later...Bless his cotton socks!

England has U.S. election fever.  All the Radio programs seem taken up with it.
I am not going to discuss my feelings re this on C.P.  Naturally, as I am not living over there my views are from the perspective of what it means to us over here.  May God have His way in this.

Suzanne,  Hello.  Gosh you are the first...well done!

Jenny.

God bless.
Jenny.

When Jesus came to Birmingham they simply passed Him by
They never hurt a hair of Him, they simply let Him die;
For men had grown more tender, and they would not give Him pain,
They only just passed down the street, and left Him in the rain.
Still Jesus cried, 'Forgive them, for they know not what they do',
And still it rained the wintry rain that
drenched Him through and through;
The crowds went home and left the streets
without a soul to see,
And Jesus crouched against a wall and cried for Calvary.

GOODMORNIG ALL 11.22AM in Holland

PAT thank you very much for the devotional from your Jack his devotionals are great.

                    THY WILL, NOT MINE

"That thy trust may be in the Lord,

I have made known to thee this day, even to thee
                              Proverb. 22:19

               Lord when i cannot understand
                     Thy silence in the hour
When i most need Thy helping Hand
                      And Thy delivering Power;
This shall my joy and comfort be,
That so it seemeth good to Thee.

When things whereon my heart is set
                        Thy sovereign will denies,
If i am tempted to forget
That You art just and wise,
Let this my joy and comfort be,
That so it seemeth good to Thee.

When sinners prosper while the just
                         Are chastened every day;
When hope lies hopeless in the dust
                         Trough unexplained delay,
Then let my joy and comfort be,
That so it seemeth good to Thee.

When these i love from the depart
                        To mansions in the skies,
                  And sorrow overwhelms my heart
                      And blinds my weepings eyes,
O Lord! let this my comfort be
That so it seemeth good to Thee.

Thus onward to the very end
my Lord, my God, my All
                 I will not doubt my Heavenly Friend;
                 But, whatso'er befall--
This shall my joy and comfort be,
That so it seemed good to Thee.

It is not warm but a beautiful harvest day

Good morning> Thank you Pat for Jack's devotional on Angels.

Now that I am here I can't thing of anything to say.

I called Gloria last night and she tells me that she fell and hurt herself pretty bad. Her ribs may be broken. I will stop by her place today and see how she is doing.

Thank you for your timely quote!

Nita:  Yes, it is good to know that you will pray for me and definite that I will and have prayed for you!

Liz:  Loved the dog story.  One son has a Rotweiller mix and we were laughing and trying to teach Loki to dial 911 - it didn't work with the puppy.

Larry:  We just read an article about Dan Reeves and he has retired to a lakeside huge home near you.  Maybe a few of these players should retire early.   ::)

Kathy:  When I was a Deacon, I used to insist that the pastor's wives be included in the appreciation - just living that interrupted life is stressful.

Jenny:  Sorry about the printer gremlins.  As for the elections, I have asked for godly guidance and voted my conscience.

Pat:  Thank you for the message on angels.

There's a quiet understanding
When we're gathered in the spirit
It's a promise that He gives us
When we gather in His name
There's a love we feel in Jesus
There's a manna that He feeds us
It's a promise that He gives us
When we gather in His name

And we know when we're together
Sharing love and understanding
That our brothers and our sisters
Feel the oneness that He brings
Thank You, thank You, thank You, Jesus
For the way You love and feed us
For the many ways You lead us
Thank You, thank You, Lord

Hi everyone.  Back from mornng coffee and the housekeeper is here so we will have a nice clean house by lunchtime.  She comes every two weeks  and does such a great job.  We feel very fortunate to have found her as we had tried several others who just didn't do a very good job.

Jenny, I can understand why your country, and all countries are watching this election in the US, as the outcome does affect the entire world.

Can't think of much to say today so will just make this brief.

Nita, I sure missed your fun posts.  I always get a chuckle out of something you post.  (hug)

Carol, did you get some snow last night?  My mom said it was starting to snow late last night.  We have about 5 inches up here. The sun is shining today though...should make for good snowballs. hehe

I am off to start my day.  Hope you all have a pleasant day!

I apologize for being among the missing for a couple of days.  My sister from up by Emporia was here on Saturday, so I spent as much time with her and Jeanie as I could.  And yesterday immediately after church, we went to Hugoton to eat lunch with the kids, make plans for a cruise we are planning with them, and of course to see Abby in her costume her Mom made for her.  Then as soon as we got home, it was time to go to church again.  We also had a Fall party with lots of candy for the kids, games, etc. and chili for everyone.  Nice.

Liz, I'm sorry to hear you aren't feeling up to par.  I haven't been, either.  How I hate being sick!!  I detest it, in fact.  But it does cause us to be more empathetic with others, so maybe that is the purpose for it.  I'm feeling a little better each day, but this aggravating cough is really dragging me down.  Hope you are much better today.

Kathy and Ria, I'm praying for you and your families.  Yes, it is so easy to be dragged into the situations with our kids, Carol, and I do understand.  I guess it's because we are the nurturers.........that's the way God designed us.

Larry, I'm sure it is very frustrating to see your daughter not following her doctor's advice and taking care of herself.  As you said, when they are adults, there is not much we can do about those situations.  But we still do have the most powerful weapon of all---PRAYER.  I'm sure you and Pat use that mightily.

Hello to Marilyn, Jenny, Papa John, Sarah, Suzanne, and all those of you who come in later.

I need to do some work, whether I feel like it or not.  See you later.

Hi, Pat!  Sure can't forget to greet YOU.

Oops--there's Soni, too!  Hi there, girl!  Good to see you!

I didn't go to our Halloween Harvest last evening at church.  Too big of a day Saturday and too long of a Sunday morning.  Didn't feel like going back to church a second time in one day.  25 miles each way is a long trip with today's gasoline prices.  I love kids but not that many kids around.  Remember, I don't even have grandchildren.  My baby will be 44 next year!!!

I got up while it was dark and shut the girls out of the bedroom.  Then I didn't wake up again until 9 a.m.  So my day started out being late.  But as my mother used to say...If you didn't need that sleep, you wouldn't have slept that long.  Mom was always right!

It is a cloudy, rainy day.  A great day for staying in and cuddling with a warm afghan.

Don't forget to pray for America's election that is tomorrow!!!!

November 1

Spiritual Warfare and Sin: Eternal Enmity

Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is
to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; but
rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ's sufferings, that
when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.
--1 Peter 4:12-13

There are two spirits in the earth, the Spirit of God and the spirit
of Satan, and these are at eternal enmity. The ostensible cause of
religious hatred may be almost anything; the true cause is nearly
always the same: the ancient animosity which Satan, since the time
of his inglorious fall, has ever felt toward God and His kingdom.
Satan is aflame with desire for unlimited dominion over the human
family; and whenever that evil ambition is challenged by the Spirit
of God, he invariably retaliates with savage fury....

It is possible within the provisions of redemptive grace to enter
into a state of union with Christ so perfect that the world will
instinctively react toward us exactly as it did toward Him in the
days of His flesh....

It is the Spirit of Christ in us that will draw Satan's fire. The
people of the world will not much care what we believe and they
will stare vacantly at our religious forms, but there is one thing
they will never forgive us-the presence of God's Spirit in our
hearts. They may not know the cause of that strange feeling of
antagonism which rises within them, but it will be nonetheless
real and dangerous. Satan will never cease to make war on the
Man-child, and the soul in which dwells the Spirit of Christ will
continue to be the target for his attacks.  The Warfare of the
Spirit, 3-4.

"Lord, thank You for victory through Jesus Christ. Amen."

Hi all,

Pat: I've been so busy this morning I'm just now getting to come back in here, but wanted to pop in and say hi.  Pat, I loved those jigsaw puzzles so much, I tried putting one up on my site for my visitors.  I'm not sure if they will come up in anyone's browser or not as I'm still playing around with the program.

Thanks for that great presentation on angels.  I'm always looking for new info on them so it was great of you to share this.

What size do the pictures need to be for the bi-weekly challenge.  I have one to post.

Etta Sue: I tried your Impossible Cheeseburger Pie.  I put tomato slices on top of the cheese before baking.  It was really good.  Will have to try more of your recipes. Thanks.

Well, back now to browsing.

Gwen

I'm still browsing around the forums.  I can see it will take a while to explore everywhere. I love all the pictures.

Hi Gwen...

For photos, we ask that they be no wider than 500 pixels or high.  The forum software is built on tables and if they are larger than that in dimensions, they distort the forum software or we call it "breaking the container".  In volume, we ask that they not be any larger than 35K.  Many think that's small but I think as you browse through the photos, you'll find that they are just fine.  Photos larger take too long for folks who are still on dial-up to see.

I was thinking too that some of your posters might be nice in the Photos with a Scriptural Message area too.

Glad you liked Jack's little devotional on Angels.  I miss him so much and know that if he were still here, he'd be so busy writing more and more!

We have had a nice day here in Nashville, some overcast skies, some sunshine, with pleasant temperatures in the 70’s.  This is the eve of the American elections.  I hope we have a nice day tomorrow so everyone will find it convenient to get out and vote.

1 Tim 2:1-5

1   I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone--
2   for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
3   This is good, and pleases God our Savior,

4   who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

Sarah lives about 100 miles from me, and we are getting our first blast of winter, too!  And I don't feel ready for it, but it's here anyway.  Snow and awful, icy winds--brrrrr!

My throat is better, Soni.  Thanks for asking.  And thanks to Pat for the nice hugs!  Jenny, wish I could sit and have a nice cup of tea with you tonight.

Jane, I have been thinking of your wood stove, and about how nice it would be to sit before a wood fire and share a cup of something hot with you.  Sounds so inviting!

Beth wanted to get out and do several things today, but I told her it was too cold.  I surely didn't want to get worse again, and she doesn't need to get chilled, either.  So we are hoping for a warmer day soon.  She voted an advance ballot, but we will go to the polls tomorrow.  I sure won't miss all the guessing and polling, and all the lies being bandied about.

I think I will watch a Christian DVD tonight, then go to bed and read.  See you all tomorrow.

Good Evening: I wet to WM's today, then at 1pm I went ti the Senior Center for my yearly health screening that the Public Health dept. does for allthe Seniors. After that I went ove to do a few things for Gloria. I had to goto the store to get a battery for her Blood Sugar Meter and a couple of other things. She has hired a new caregiver but I told her I would come over and go grocery shopping for her, because she doesn't know yet wheter he can be trusted with her checkbook.

Tomorrow Fay will find out if she can come home now, if her stitches can come out then she can come home.

I am going to start going to the Tai chi classes at the Senior center on Mon. wed. and Fri. Mornings. They are early enoough that I can go before I go to Fay's.

Well that's all for now.

QuoteJane, I have been thinking of your wood stove, and about how nice it would be to sit before a wood fire and share a cup of something hot with you.  Sounds so inviting!

Janet ... I've had a cozy fire going all day today ... come on over and we'll have a great time visiting and sipping a hot cuppa (whatever you want) ... Let's invite JENNY too, okay!  This will be fun!  :D

Yes, with this election in the USA being so very important, let's ALL pray that our Heavenly Father will be in control--as He will be.

I did see a post on another site where they were discussing this and it was as follows:

Quote

Whoever wins, the King is still on the throne. And He knows all that is going on and needs to be done. Hallelujah!

That was a lovely devotional Pat.  Thanks.  I always get such a nice feeling after reading one of your husband's sermons.

This has been a cold, rain & wind swept day.  I went to the Mall when Wendy went for her accupunture and got really chillled.  Had to get Misty a new collar and bell.  This time a colllar that does not break away.  What a scam that one is!!!!  Then returned books and went to the grocery store.  Not terribly exciting!!!  Oh, we also stopped at the Sallly Anne store.  I found a stove top convection oven for a big $4.00 that will save using my big oven for little projects.  Not like the one in your link Pat.....but works for me ;D

Thanks Janet, not as bad today and that is good.  You are right about being able to relate to discomfort in others.  It occured to me that may be why I have had all this discomfort for so many years.....so could relate to what Wendy is going thro'.  There always seems to be a reason for things that happen....big and small.

Let me know how the Tai Chi goes, please Marilyn.  I am looking into a class that may start in January.  Understand it is very helpful.  The Sr. Centre doesn't have anything but it is at another Sr. facility.  Someone mentioned Rieka....looked it up on the net and it sounds like something New Age.  ????

Angels are an interesting subject.  Here is a little poem:

What do Angels Look Like
Author Unknown

Like the little old lady who returned your wallet yesterday.
Like the taxi driver who told you that your eyes light up the world, when you smile.
Like the small child who showed you the wonder in simple things.
Like the poor man who offered to share his lunch with you.
Like the rich man who showed you that it really is all possible, if only you believe.
Like the stranger who just happened to come along, when you had lost your way.
Like the friend who touched your heart, when you didn't think you had one.
Angels come in all sizes and shapes, all ages and skin types.
Some with freckles, some with dimples, some with wrinkles, some without.
They come disguised as friends, enemies teachers, students, lovers and fools.
They don't take life too seriously, they travel light.
They leave no forwarding address, they ask nothing in return.
They are hard to find when your eyes are closed, but when you choose to see, they are everywhere you look.
So, open you eyes and count all your Angels -- for you are truly blessed!

Pleasant dreams all and God Bless.

Liz

So, talk to you all tomorrow!

Love you.

(Click to hear music)

Words and Music by Lawrence Chewning and Ray Boltz 1994 - Word Music

I have journeyed through the long, dark night
Out on the open sea,
By faith alone, sight unknown,
And yet His eyes were watching me.

The Anchor holds, though the ship is battered.
The Anchor holds, though the sails are torn.
Well I have fallen on my knees,
as I faced the raging sea,
But the Anchor holds, in spite of the storm.
I've had visions and I've had dreams;
Well I've even held them in my hands,
But I never knew those dreams could slip right through
Like they were only grains of sand.

O, the Anchor holds, though the ship is battered.
The Anchor holds, though the sails are torn.
Well I have fallen on my knees,
as I faced the raging seas.
O, the Anchor holds, in spite of the storm.
Now I have been young, but I am older now.
O and there has been beauty these eyes have seen;
But it was in the night, when I faced the storms of my life.
Oh, that's where God proved His love to me.

The Anchor holds, though the ship is battered.
The Anchor holds, though the sails are torn.
I have fallen, fallen down on my knees
as I faced the raging seas.
But the Anchor holds; O, in spite of the storm.
I said I've fallen, fallen down on my knees
as I faced the raging seas;
But the Anchor holds, in spite of the storm.

Pat great devotional today.   Yes I to am collecting some of the Avon Angels

Hello to everyone out there, and as for the snow you folk can keep it all - snow is beautiful but with it comes all of the bad roads etc. etc. I will say that as a child I loved the winter but now that the years are catching up to me I do not enjoy the feeling of being trapped if you all know what I am trying to say.

Stephen thanks for the personal greeting. I needed it very much today God does know when to send his messengers.

Time for me to shut the computer down

Good Morning Jenny and Ria  :D

I too pray that America is safe from any evil today.

I do hope that people will get out and vote. It is rainey here now with just a cool breeze blowing, feels really good after the heat and humidity we have had lately. I am glad I did vote early, the lines just for early voting were really long, and it looks like rain throughout the day.

Well have a great day everyone and don't forget to pray our leaders!

A BIG good morning to all and for us in America it is a special day as we go to vote.  I am going to vote before I go to work as the polls open at 7 and stay open until 7 tonight.  I pray that nothing will interfere with this election and that things will go smoother than last time.  There have been many improvements in the voting process and many more have decided to register...especially in Florida where everything was topsy turvy last time.

My SS lesson this week is "GOD is AWESOME"  and Psalm 104 is our passage.  I love these praises to our Father in heaven.
1   Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty.

Ria,   you seem to have a busy day ahead.  Enjoy !

Jenny, I am coming with you to have the tea with Jane & Janet.  We'll have a wonderful time just chatting away :) :)

Good morning from Oregon.  It's 4:30 am, but I've been up for about an hour.  I just couldin't sleep much last night.  A beautiful thing.....everytime I awoke I was singing "Great Is Thy Faithfulness"  in my head.It happened 3 or 4 times.  I'd smile, knowing my spirit was with Jesus and worshipping. :)  That used to happen a lot, but not lately.  It's a very good feeling........to know even in sleep, deep inside, where Christ abides, active fellowship never ceases. :)

We are in Him, He is us.  One Spirit.  Hallelujah.

In Oregon we have "vote by mail".   I pray this election goes smoothly and we don't have to get into all the legal stuff......stuff the lawyers are waiting for.

I'm concerned for my grandson who is staying with me. (18)  I know he is going through depression.  He is so quiet......just stays in his room watching tv unless it's homework on the computer or if I call him to eat.  He's a senior in highschool, gets a  4. average.  I try to talk to him, but he won't tell me much.  I'm praying for him fervently.  My daughter, living in Arizona, said that she read a thing in a parents magazine, re depression and suicide in teenagers.  He fit every single warning. :(   Today I'm going up to his room, while he's in school, and just pray. He was living with his dad and step mom and things were going so bad between he and his dad.  He asked about staying here "awhile" and I said yes.  I don't think he'll go back home at all. How sad, but I'm glad he came to me.  He talks to his mom a lot, she calls.

All this talk of freezing weather and snow and wind.  We sure aren't seeing that here.   Yep, I love the Oregon coast.

ok...gotta run and get another cup of coffee, and see if Amy(dog)wants to go out again.

Have a blessed day everyone.   Nita

Good morning, I think we should name this discussion "November 1 & 2."

I was grateful to be able to go to cast my vote a couple of weeks ago. I really appreciate itthat our state allows early voting for then I can go when my legs feel like standing in line, and often the lines aren't so long at early voting (except on the last day!).

Pat, I like the quote you found.

Nita, I'll be praying for your grandson. And for many others on my daily prayer list, as well.

Y'all have a good day.

Ruth Ann

Whatever happens, whoever wins this election - we stay the same and I know after living through some real duds as presidents of this country.  We all know who is really in charge of our lives.

Soni:  Just a trace of snow at our house - the wind was a real awakening to wintertime.

Etta Sue:  44 - that is a really big baby!

Jenny:  If I read in bed, it only lasts a few minutes and puts me right to sleep.

Hi Suzanne!

Pat:  I looked at only three sites as two did not load all the way.  I hope you are getting enough of us to take the time to check out the ads.

Just found out that two of our grands are "free" for the entire week of Thanksgiving.  Am considering having them here - we also have the tribe coming so I don't really know if that is much help or hinderance.  It can be both.  The other boy we want to visit us more will probably be with his parents in the mountains and they just miss so many family gatherings.  I have to keep remembering that he has a close relationship with his parents.  Thank you Lord for the opportunities we have in visiting with our grandchildren.  (I have a good friend who is estranged from son and three grands - her only grands).

Jenny:  It is very cold and I am concerned about the ones who insisit on sleeping outside but they want to be left alone - not trusting of anyone.  We could use better and long term mental healthcare in this nation.
