JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Morning Devotional...

A PLAN TO KILL PAUL
Acts 22:30-23:22 NIV

The next day, since the commander wanted to find out exactly why Paul was being accused by the Jews, he released him and ordered the chief priests and all the Sanhedrin to assemble. Then he brought Paul and had him stand before them.

Paul looked straight at the Sanhedrin and said, "My brothers, I have fulfilled my duty to God in all good conscience to this day." At this the high priest Ananias ordered those standing near Paul to strike him on the mouth. Then Paul said to him, "God will strike you, you whitewashed wall! You sit there to judge me according to the law, yet you yourself violate the law by commanding that I be struck!"

Those who were standing near Paul said, "You dare to insult God's high priest?"

Paul replied, "Brothers, I did not realize that he was the high priest; for it is written: 'Do not speak evil about the ruler of your people.'"

Then Paul, knowing that some of them were Sadducees and the others Pharisees, called out in the Sanhedrin, "My brothers, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee. I stand on trial because of my hope in the resurrection of the dead." When he said this, a dispute broke out between the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and the assembly was divided. (The Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, and that there are neither angels nor spirits, but the Pharisees acknowledge them all.)

There was a great uproar, and some of the teachers of the law who were Pharisees stood up and argued vigorously. "We find nothing wrong with this man," they said. "What if a spirit or an angel has spoken to him?" The dispute became so violent that the commander was afraid Paul would be torn to pieces by them. He ordered the troops to go down and take him away from them by force and bring him into the barracks.

The following night the Lord stood near Paul and said, "Take courage! As you have testified about me in Jerusalem, so you must also testify in Rome."

The next morning the Jews formed a conspiracy and bound themselves with an oath not to eat or drink until they had killed Paul. More than forty men were involved in this plot. They went to the chief priests and elders and said, "We have taken a solemn oath not to eat anything until we have killed Paul. Now then, you and the Sanhedrin petition the commander to bring him before you on the pretext of wanting more accurate information about his case. We are ready to kill him before he gets here."

But when the son of Paul's sister heard of this plot, he went into the barracks and told Paul.
Then Paul called one of the centurions and said, "Take this young man to the commander; he has something to tell him." So he took him to the commander.

The centurion said, "Paul, the prisoner, sent for me and asked me to bring this young man to you because he has something to tell you."

The commander took the young man by the hand, drew him aside and asked, "What is it you want to tell me?"

He said: "The Jews have agreed to ask you to bring Paul before the Sanhedrin tomorrow on the pretext of wanting more accurate information about him. Don't give in to them, because more than forty of them are waiting in ambush for him. They have taken an oath not to eat or drink until they have killed him. They are ready now, waiting for your consent to their request."

The commander dismissed the young man and cautioned him, "Don't tell anyone that you have reported this to me."

How well do you know your rights and fulfill your responsibilities as a citizen of your country?

Paul's outburst came as a result of the illegal command that Ananias had given.  Ananias had violated Jewish law by assuming that Paul was guilty without a trial and ordering his punishment (see Deut. 19:15).  Paul didn't recognize Ananias as the High Priest, probably because Ananias's command broke the law he was pledged to represent.  As Christians, we are to represent Christ.  When those around you say, 'We didn't know you were a Christian." you have failed to represent Jesus as you should.  You are not merely Christ's follower; you are his representative to others.[/size]

Whew!  I hope I didn't break anyone's foot when I shut the door on yesterday's NEM.

I think I did the opening of a NEM okay.  And it didn't even hurt!

I took my friend for her treatment at the hospital and then stopped at Meijer's to do some shopping.  Shouldn't have done that....spent too much money.  BUT I did get three Christmas presents.  That ought to count for something, right?

Well, time to go beddy-bye.  See ya'll in the morning!!!  Hello to you guys across the pond!!!

<:))))><<~~<:))))><<~~<:))))><<~~<:))))><<~~<:))))

I like that "good morning", it's cheerful.

I think I'm getting the flu or something - I don't know how to deal with it, as I never get sick.  Oh, misery ...

@Soni, DPContest has been around a lot longer than Digital Image Cafe, but both sites are rather similar.  I can't decide which site I like better.  Both are very competitive, the Cafe is a bit "funkier" IMO, and it has good exposure.  Their critique corner is helpful.  Forums are about the same at both.  At DPContest you have to upload the unedited original with your edited image for confirmation of authenticity, and you can post in TIFF format (which, in my opinion, gives better reproduction).  There also is not a file size limit, whereas the Cafe has a 300K limit in JPG format.  I really don't know which one I like better.

I like BetterPhoto a lot, because you get to compete against some very good photographers, and it is not limited to digital, so the competition is hard - I love that.  I think at the Cafe you can also submit scans, but I'm not sure right now.

Anyway.  I want to go take a couple aspirins and a long shower.  Talk to you all tomorrow.

Sonifo

Thanks for that info, Ursula!

Way to go, Etta Sue! You did a fine job!

Good night everyone!

Nita

Good evening all.  I'm just checking in before I go to bed.

Skeif, thanks for the link to the sleep forum.  I've bookmarked it.  I don't mind the mask when I first go to sleep....but usually I awake after a couple of hours and have to take it off.  From the reports on my sleep lab(I requested my own copy)I don't have apnea, but my oxygen levels dropped during the night, so my doctor thought I needed a machine.

Still tired today.  It was a lazy day.....I napped on the couch. :)

Maybe my tiredness is a tad of depression.  I have to let my little Amy go.  I've had her for 3 months now and she still growls at my grandkids....old and young.  I was so hoping that she could relax and get to know them.  I made the decision a couple of days ago when my 5 year old came over and she growled at him.  The last dog I got, and loved, ended up being too much for me....and I had to find a new home for her.  And now Amy.  It makes me feel really bad.  She is so perfect in every other way.  Her vet said that it's hard to undo what early abuse has caused.   She needs to be with adults....with no children, I guess.   I didn't mean to even talk about this, but it was right on top, so out it came.  I bathed Amy today and am taking her for another vet check tomorrow. Then I'll start looking for a new home for her.   :'(

Good night all.  love, nita

A man who lacks judgments derides his neighbour,

Holy Father, give me wisdom

Judy, that's too funny!  You sure got me--I was all ready for a cappaccino! :P

Great job, Etta Sue!  I enjoyed the writings about Paul, and certainly agree that there is much we need to do to be good citizens of our country.  We need to let our voices be heard on a multitude of subjects, and not just at election time.

My ladies are supposed to come to paint today, also I am expecting my frames to arrive, sure hope they do, as the customer wants hers to take to her daughter at Thanksgiving.  Time is getting short!

I don't seem to have much to say today.  (Imagine that!)  Pat, glad you enjoyed your day at the fair, will be expecting to see photos!

Judy, that is so funny!  I was thinking...a cappuccino really sounds good...but  ???

Thanks to all for the congrats on the opening of a NEM.  It was fun!  Pat, I am glad you slept good knowing that all was fine on CP.

Now for Kaye Don, Barb and Ivalou's day yesterday....please read.  There is a praise here.

I was sleeping this morning, trying to sleep in and the phone rang.  Ivalou asked if I was up....I said 'Yes' before I thought.  She said, 'I am coming over'.  Okay.  So I got up and put on my robe.  She was at the door when I got to the kitchen...my routine was messed up.  I opened the door and the alarm went off.  I shut it off.  So she said, 'Well, do you want to hear about my day yesterday?'  Yes.

They went to Nappannee and needed to run around some before meeting Lezlie to pick up the boys so they went to Elkhart.  They have a 2004 extended cab pickup.  Ivalou was behind Kaye Don.  She heard Kaye Don say something and knew that they were going to crash.  She looked over Kaye Don's head and saw that the light was yellow and then they crashed.  The air bags went off and Libby, the dog, flew to the floor in front.  Libby immediately jumped back up and flew into Ivalou's arms, scared to death.  A car was right beside the truck.  It seems that the car turned left in front of Kaye Don and he hit it broadside which made the car do a 360° turn and hit Kaye Don in the side also.  A man came out of a VP and said the light was green.  I thought...uh, oh.  A scam.  The men in the car were from South of the Border.  Ivalou said the driver got out....no expression on his face at all.  The other guy got out on the drivers side.  All the glass was broken and that guy had glass in his hair and blood running down his face.  He brushed the glass out and was talking to the driver and they proceeded to walk away.  Thank God, Kaye Don, Barb, Ivalou and Libby were okay.  They got out and when the man from the VP saw the men walk away, he told Kaye Don that he was going back in the VP, that Kaye Don can tell the police whatever he wanted to tell them.

The ambulance and police came.  Barb is Barb and so she was hurting everywhere.  Her knees, her chest, her hand.  But she didn't want to go to the hospital so after talking to the police, one of the guys with the ambulance took them all back there so they could calm down, be warm and call the insurance and get a car rental.  Their truck was damaged in the front and side and not drivable at all.  The police just took pertinent information...didn't ask how the accident happened or anything.  But they did catch the guys with dogs.  They were found in someones backyard several blocks away.  The police did tell Kaye Don he could get a police report in a few days and there would be an arrest on it for the other guys as well since they walked away.

Anyway, they got a rental, met Lezlie to get the boys and got home around 10:30 p.m. last night.  Thank God, they were in the truck and not the car...they might have really been injured and I would be north right now visiting them in a hospital.  God was in the truck with them.

Thanks Etta Sue for such a great devotional,I really paid attention to it while reading it.PTL that everyone in the accident are ok,I know what it is like to have been in a wreck I survived a real bad one in March of 1997 it just almost wiped me out permently but God had other plans and I am seeing those take place now.Today I ordered my self a half dozen of cinnoman rolls so my mouth is watering  now for them umm I can't wait for a bite.On tues I will go with my mom to the care home and ear Thanksgiving dinner with my grandma.Yesterday morning I took the dogs to visit my grandma Meika sat on my lap and I was able to wheel myself while she rode she really was good.Well John has bought his ticket so now it is a done deal and he told me yesterday the exact amount of time left until he comes  how many days, hours ,minutes and seconds,so the countdown has begun.

Etta Sue

Beth, I can hear your joy even in your typing.  Fantabulous!

Thanks for your comments about the devotion.  That means a lot.  I have read these 365 Bible stories everyday now for about 4 years.  The Bible never gets boring.

I can see Mieka taking a ride on your lap.  Bet she likes that.  Also bet the people at the care home liked Mieka too.

Countdown, hunh?  Is John going somewhere?  Just joshing ya.  I know he is coming to see you soon!!

Sonifo

OH MY!  What a mess, Etta Sue!  Glad everyone is ok!

Jane Walker

ETTA SUE!!   :o  That's awful about the accident!  I'm glad it turned okay for everyone.

I just found out that my newest great grandson had surgery last night.  Jacob is not even a month old yet, but he was unable to keep his food down.  My granddaughter, Candice, (his mother) kept at these doctors until they checked further to find the cause.  They had just been giving her medicine to stop his vomiting, and he had already lost a pound since birth.  Turns out there was a muscle that was not allowing the food to move out of his stomach!  I guess, since it couldn't move out the correct way, it just returned the way it went in!  Anyway, the news is the surgery went well and, hopefully, he will be strong and healthy soon ... He needs to be 'cause his big sister turns 4 tomorrow and I think she will give him a run for his money in the days to come.   ::)

Spiritual Warfare and Sin: Be Ye Holy

And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying "Speak to all the congregation of
the children of Israel, and say to them: 'You shall be holy, for I
the Lord your God am holy.'"
--Leviticus 19:1-2

No one whose senses have been exercised to know good and evil but
must grieve over the sight of zealous souls seeking to be filled
with the Holy Spirit while they are yet living in a state of moral
carelessness or borderline sin. Such a thing is a moral
contradiction. Whoever would be filled and indwelt by the Spirit
should first judge his life for any hidden iniquities; he should
courageously expel from his heart everything which is out of accord
with the character of God as revealed by the Holy Scriptures.

At the base of all true Christian experience must lie a sound and
sane morality. No joys are valid, no delights legitimate where sin
is allowed to live in life or conduct. No transgression of pure
righteousness dare excuse itself on the ground of superior
religious experience. To seek high emotional states while living
in sin is to throw our whole life open to self deception and the
judgment of God. "Be ye holy" is not a mere motto to be framed and
hung on the wall. It is a serious commandment from the Lord of the
whole earth.  The Pursuit of Man, 102.

"Father, deliver me from 'moral carelessness and borderline sin.'
I commit myself today, in the power of the Holy Spirit, to a
holiness of life that will be pleasing to You. Amen."

Well, here I am trying out something with this new computer.  This (if it works) is the first time I’ve actually copied/pasted!  Love this new computer - if it’ll just let me use it!
Well, it worked, 'cause here it is!  I'd really like to have had that cup of capucino, y'know.

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  This morning we had our Friday men's coffee at the Senior Center and a new man, Rob, who had moved here three weeks ago from Alabama and whom I met just yesterday at the cafe, came to the coffee.  We had about 16 men this morning.  As today was  our SeniorNet Computer Learning Center Volunteer Meeting and I had learned he is very much involved with computer I asked him to go with me, which he did.  I believe he will become a volunteer.  When I picked him up he showed me his computer setup in his beautiful new home and it was very impressive.  He has headed a large computer user's group and is still their webmaster.

Etta Sue, thanks for the devotional this morning.  You did very well.  Sure sorry to hear of the wreck and it sounds like illegal aliens must have been involved and they probably had no license to be driving.  We have that same problem in this area.  Certainly glad that no one had to be hospitalized.

Ursula, sorry to read that you may have the flu and sure hope it doesn't turn out to be that since that will sideline you for several days.

Nita, sorry that you are going to have to find a new home for your pet.  Our cat doesn't like little children but he just goes off and hides and stays away from them.

Ria, is the cold weather normal for your area this time of the year?  Hope you are feeling better.

JudyB, that is certainly a cute graphic.  Thanks for sharing it with us.

Beth, will you save me one of those cinnamom rolls.  Those are one of my favorites.  However, on second thought it would get awflully stale before I could eat it so please enjoy all of them.  Are these the kind like sticky buns with lots of pecans?  It sounds like  John is counting the days very carefully.  Glad that you will be able to share a Thanksgiving meal with your grandmother.  They are very special people.

Jane, sure glad your granddaughter insisted that something be done.  No wonder the little one was losing weight.

Nards, sorry that you have been ill.  Know you are very busy at your job and it doesn't help when a person has to work and is not feeling up to par.  Hope that Karma is feeling well.

Al, it looks like your new computer is working very well.  Have you had a Mac before?

A special hi to Pat, Sonja, Judy McK, Chris and Margit, Janet, Jenny, Marilyn and anyone who stops by later tonight.

I had a call from my doctor around 5 pm (and I have found that is usually not a good thing).  On my xray yesterday (and the one last month) was a spot on my lung.  He thinks it is just a granoma (sp) or scar tissue from an infection.  Last month he didn't have the radiologist examine the x-ray but this time he did and the radiologist now wants me to have a CAT scan done with die to check this spot out.  So next week will have to call and get an appointment for the test and make another trip over to where they do these tests, about an hour away from where we live.  I have had many chest xrays and this spot has never shown up before.  I had hoped I was through seeing doctors and having tests at least for a month but guess that is not to be.  I will try not to worry about this as it is probably just a little calcification.

That's why I'm looking forward to the next (and I don't mean that flippantly, I really am).  Not that I don't enjoy living in this world.  That's a real pickle, this world has so many problems, but it's also so beautiful and fun to live in.  I can hardly imagine how good heaven is going to be.

PS - I hope to have a real good camera and great scenery in heaven :)

So many reason fr prayer this evening. I made it home in time to put on the VCR for one of my children. Then came straight to the computer. This is the second day I've not felt good in the mornings, so have stayed in bed until the very last moment.

Maybe next week will be better.

Tomorrow is my oldest son's 43rd birthday! Wow, I never dreamed I'd live this long, to see my children entering midlife!

Y'all take care. I need to fix a bite to eat before it gets any later.
