Oldiesmann: I'm not aware of any Jenny. Not sure why activity has died down on this site so much though 2023-06-12, 00:06:36

JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

      Morning Devotional...

      Blessed is the man....
      Psalm 1:1

Have you ever noticed that in this psalm, when it speaks of the ungodly (v. 4) it is plural, but when it speaks of the godly it is "the man," singular.

Who is this blessed Man, heavenly wise, separate from sinners, and undefiled?

Who is this whose delight is in the law of the Lord and who meditates day and night in it?

He is fruitful and prosperous, and we benefit eternally from what He has done.

You know, don't you? He's the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Father wants us to be, each day, more like that blessed Man!
      --Carl Knott

      Be like Jesus--this my song--
      In the home and in the throng;
Be like Jesus all day long!
      I would be like Jesus.

      Pat...........

Good morning.  I know you don't have anything to do with your spare time (Because you don't have any) ;)
Anyhoo, when and if you get the chance, can you take a peek at Dell and give me your advice.  We're going to purchase a Dell, but not until I know I'll be ordering the right one.  I'm looking at their Demension 8300.  I'd like sufficient bells and whistles for digital photography, music, video, DVD, CD Burner, etc.  I won't have any speed at all until we go to satellite.  All we have up here in the sticks are phone lines.

      Thanks Pat.
That devotional was a good one.  It so hard to be like Jesus "in the throng".  I was thinking of throngs of shoppers and the hassle of it all...tempers soon become frayed. Lord give us patience ..Amen!

That was a cheery Thanksgiving tap-in Pat but  noticed something was missing...Yes "parsnips" for Etta Sue!  Ha Ha!

Well that's all for now.  I have some washing in the twin-tub and yes folks I do not have a new-fangled automatic washer...

May pop in later to see those photographs you talked of Pat in the Challenge.

Haven't been here in over a week.  Work, work, work has been taking longer each day due to the "busy" season.  Our Oct thru Dec are busy every year as the tons and tons of cottonseed come in daily.  My job is to keep up with each weigh ticket and pay for the cottonseed..yesterday there was over 80 trucks ( a good 12-hr day for me).  Then I have been trying to spend more time in the AM in the Word and studying the Purpose Driven Life.
I still pray for all of you and have my list right here by the computer taped on my scanner.

Jenny, what kind of washer do you have?  What do you mean by twin-tub. Guess I'm kind of ignorant about some things.

Ria, It sounds like your husband is having a hard time.  We have had many lay-offs here in America and a lot of people are without jobs in SC.  I will be praying for both of you.  Also, I love your colors I saw your work in thecrafts and it is truly breathtaking ;D

Lee  Just go for it! :)  I know you have done your research.

Pat, again thanks for your devoted time here!

Lee - It is a Dell 8200 that I have and it is superb. I would not swap it for anything. The 8300 is just an upgraded version of mine so it should be even better. I would heartily recommend Dell PC's to anyone. They are built like tanks but handle like a Ferrari.

      Hi Everyone...

Just popping in for just a moment.  I have a very busy day ahead of me.

I have Avon to pack and books to deliver and tonight I have the Annual General Meeting of the Guelph Hiking Trail Club and as Secretary, I must attend.  We're going to see some fantastic photos too of Russia and the Baltic by a fellow who spent his last extended vacation there.

Whewww...  I'm glad that you replied to Lee, Iain as I have no knowledge of the Dell but have only heard good reviews of them.

Ria, I'm sorry about your husband's news.  Hope that the lawyer will be able to help.

Hi Kathy!  I've missed you.  Interesting sounding job you have.  I know nothing about the cottonseed.

Sorry about forgetting the parsnips, Jenny!  HAHAHA!

Hi everyone.  Our daughter seems to be over the flu and was able to go to her classes today, including keeping an important appointment with her English teacher.  The housekeepers are here this morning so our house will be all spotless in a couple of hours.  These two ladies do such great work and we really appreciate them.  Pat has gone to a chiropractor appointment and then plans on going to the library.

Lee, it sounds like an exciting time as it is always great to get a new computer.  Even though your Internet connection will be no faster you will probably see and increase in speed just because of the faster computer.

Judy, the cost of car repairs is really something.  I never heard from the fellow that I accidently hit in the bumper a few weeks ago so guess he decided it wasn't worth pursuing.  I think I know the feeling you had after that little accident because I knew what I had done was just carelessness and a lapse of good judgment.  Mine was worse than yours really in that I put my foot on the accelerator and then looked up to see the car in front hadn't moved as I had expected.  I hit the brakes but still gave him a little bump.

Ria, your cards are truly works of art.  Thanks for sharing them with us.  Ria, am I readying your message correctly that your husband will not be going to work after the end of this year but will be paid until he retires in 2006?

Kathy, it sounds like you all are truly busy at work.  That 12 hour day doesn't sound very pleasant.  Hope you don't experience that too often.

Jenny, I sure know what you are speaking of when we get in a crowd of people as it is easy to get very frustrated when people stop right in front of you.

Pat, thanks for the devotional this morning.  I particularly like the little verse at the end.

This is Calvin Cove day and we are singing hymns today.  They will not be there next week as the day care center is closed for the week of Thanksgiving.

Here's a good hymn to sing for morning time.  If it's not morning where you are, the words are still good.

      When Morning Gilds the Skies
      (Click to hear music)

"May the Name of the Lord be praised."
      Job 1:21

Words: From Katholisches Gesangbuch (Würzburg, Germany: circa 1744) (Beim frühen Morgenlicht); translated from German to English by Edward Caswall in Formby's Catholic Hymns (London: 1854), & Robert S. Bridges in Yattendon Hymnal (Oxford, England: 1899)

Music: "Laudes Domini," Joseph Barnby, in Hymns Ancient and Modern (London: 1868)

When morning gilds the skies my heart awaking cries:
      May Jesus Christ be praised!
Alike at work and prayer, to Jesus I repair:
      May Jesus Christ be praised!

When you begin the day, O never fail to say,
      May Jesus Christ be praised!
And at your work rejoice, to sing with heart and voice,
      May Jesus Christ be praised!

Whene'er the sweet church bell peals over hill and dell,
      May Jesus Christ be praised!
O hark to what it sings, as joyously it rings,
      May Jesus Christ be praised!

My tongue shall never tire of chanting with the choir,
      May Jesus Christ be praised!
This song of sacred joy, it never seems to cloy,
      May Jesus Christ be praised!

Does sadness fill my mind? A solace here I find,
      May Jesus Christ be praised!
Or fades my earthly bliss? My comfort still is this,
      May Jesus Christ be praised!

To God, the Word, on high, the host of angels cry,
      May Jesus Christ be praised!
Let mortals, too, upraise their voice in hymns of praise,
      May Jesus Christ be praised!

      Be this at meals your grace, in every time and place;
      May Jesus Christ be praised!
Be this, when day is past, of all your thoughts the last
      May Jesus Christ be praised!

When mirth for music longs, this is my song of songs:
      May Jesus Christ be praised!
When evening shadows fall, this rings my curfew call,
      May Jesus Christ be praised!

When sleep her balm denies, my silent spirit sighs,
      May Jesus Christ be praised!
When evil thoughts molest, with this I shield my breast,
      May Jesus Christ be praised!

The night becomes as day when from the heart we say:
      May Jesus Christ be praised!
The powers of darkness fear when this sweet chant they hear:
      May Jesus Christ be praised!

No lovelier antiphon in all high heav'n is known
      Than, Jesus Christ be praised!
There to the eternal Word the eternal psalm is heard:
      May Jesus Christ be praised!

Let all the earth around ring joyous with the sound:
      May Jesus Christ be praised!
In heaven's eternal bliss the loveliest strain is this:
      May Jesus Christ be praised!

Sing, suns and stars of space, sing, ye that see His face,
      Sing, Jesus Christ be praised!
God's whole creation o'er, for aye and evermore
      Shall Jesus Christ be praised!

In heaven's eternal bliss the loveliest strain is this,
      May Jesus Christ be praised!
Let earth, and sea and sky from depth to height reply,
      May Jesus Christ be praised!

Be this, while life is mine, my canticle divine:
      May Jesus Christ be praised!
Sing this eternal song through all the ages long:
      May Jesus Christ be praised!

Pat:  Thank you ever so much for today's music and for your thoughfulness in looking for my old pictures on C.P.

Ria:  Your Christmas cards are beautiful.  It must take hours and hours of work.

Lee:  We are considering a Dell for a laptop and there is a good discount of $200 on that one right now - we can't decide for sure but our old laptop is mighty slow and doesn't have any bells and whistles.

This is our day at the shelter and we are going to look at the thrift shop for a deal on sleeping bags first.  You may now call me the official "bag lady".  They have been giving me wonderful low prices for sleeping bags - this is where our Lord wants us to be right now.

Judy:  Sorry about the high cost of your little bump.

Good morning everyone.  Dark and gloomy and rainy here.  Makes one appreciate sunny days more when God throws in days like today.

Jerry didn't get brakes done on his car...too costly.  But I brought him home with me.  He should get his new glasses this afternoon and then this evening is our Small Group meeting.  I will take him home after the meeting.  If his glasses aren't ready then I guess he will stay another night.  He will if I don't take him home, I guess.   ::)

Ali is so funny.  When Jerry is here, she doesn't know where to sleep.  She stays mostly in the hallway between the bedrooms.  But when we get up, she is beside herself in running around in circles with glee!!!

Hello, dear friends.  Today I want to sort out a lot of books and try to figure out what to do with them!  I have a lot of Christian books, but since we aren't having any activity to speak of in our book exchange here, I guess I will give them to the church library.  I have so many books stacked around it is becoming a problem.  I have two big bookcases to move before we can finish the tile, so that's why I'm into that job right now.

I wish you all a God-filled and blessed day.

Thanks Pat for the devotional and interesting places to visit. I am just stopping in to wish everyone a Good Morning or Evening or.....

Ria, you cards a gorgeous.  I posted in the crafts but have to say it again.  Sorry about the trouble at your husbands workplace.  This must be a sad time for all the people not close to retiring.  Seems to be a worldwide problem now and we need to pray for people who need employment.

My daughter is coming to go over the plans and estimates for the suite and will have to go too Victoria on Thursday.  This is an exciting time....tho' will take my savings to complete the task.  Have always trusted in the Lord for all things, so will continue on that path.
God owns everything we have anyway.

Daily Bread had a nice little verse and a helpful hint to all stating that:
The Human Spirit Soars With Hope
When Lifted By An Encouraging Word.

Oh, I would be to others
          A cheering ray of light,
          Inspiring them with courage
          To climb some new-found height.

      Hello all!

I'm not going to post any great self-righteous proclamations about how to treat our fellow man, because I'm sure to be tested on it by the end of the day. :(

Maybe I should post instructions on how to deal with great riches.  Hmmmm.

Biblical things that pass our notice... 2 Chronicles 6...

Solomon's dedication of the temple...  AFTER the prayer, he sacrificed 20,000 oxen and 120,000 sheep.  Whoa.  That's a lotta killing animals.  The funny thing, to me, was that BEFORE the prayer, Solomon and the people sacrificed SO MANY animals that the "multitude was too great to number"!!!!  Considering how many were included in the number of 140,000, it must have truly been staggering how many were sacrificed to make a number too great to number.

I was also rather challenged by 2 Chronicles 7:13.  Everybody knows 7:14, but 7:13 doesn't get mentioned.  The famous line "If my people, which are called by my name..." has some "pre-existing conditions" that make me wonder if it is used out of context a lot.  Haven't really formed an opinion, but it just made me think.  Will God ever heal America?  Or are we on a downward path with no end in sight?

      Food for thought...

Thanks to all of you for your prayers yesterday.
I survived open heart surgery.... :)

Check out my blog at www.bernardshuford.com.

Pat I did a search for Carol too.  I emailled her with my results.  I am going to look in the challenges too.  It is sad when you loose pictures like that.  I need to save mine on floppy and avoid that problem.  You never know when there is going to be a problem.

Nards, I am going to check out that passage.  It is (as far as my teaching goes) a rule to never take a passage out of context.  I will check too.  Your comments yesterday were to us but I took them as being for me.  They go in line with the thought "Are you Jesus?"

Melaura has been having trouble sleeping, it is a rough time for her.  Please keep praying that we take the right course of action.  The other two are feeling the stress of her problem too.  They are practising drill exercises and there is a lot of foot stomping going on.  Melaura is the drill instructor.  Is she ever loud!

Etta Sue, Does Jerry or you have a friend who is a mechanic?  If they do work in their garage then they may do the work for less $$$.

Ria it sounds like the package the company is offering is good for you.  Is your hubby happy with the offer?   What is the name of the company?

Well I am going to say good bye and check out 2 Chron.

This was an interesting afternoon.  My boss asked me to come in this afternoon to take some pictures for the website.  Our State Assemblywoman came to Corinth to speak to the representatives of all the small towns and villages in Saratoga County about funds that will be available for various projects.

He had notified the two newspapers and the TV stations and was hopeful there'd be some coverage, but still wanted some photos for our web.  Come to find out, only one reporter showed up and believe it or not he came without a camera!  When the ceremonies were over he came up to me and asked could I please email him some of those I took.  Of course, I agreed and have sent him the four best ones.  Now we'll see whether any of them get into the paper.

As I read this I was WOWed by the events.

1    Before the prayer of Solomon there was HUGE sacrifice.
      2    Then came Solomons prayer.
      3.    Before the well known passage of 2 Chron 7:14 there was a week, 7 days, sacrifice and feasting. 2000 oxen and 20,000 sheep. V 7 the alter he built was unable to receive the offerings.
4    He sent the people home, THEN  the Lord appeared to Solomon.
5, Verse 12 is the beginning of the Lords answer to all the sacrifices.  Verse 13 is the answer to turning God's face back to His people.

Will God heal America?  I don't know.  Unless ALL His people turn away from controversy and sin then turn to God and in unison follow the steps in verse 14.....................................I personally don't think so.

      Any other ideas?

      Good points, JudyB.

Part of my "wondering" was this....

This "statement" was DIRECTLY given to Solomon in reference to Israel.  The use of the words "my people" is often used in modern sermons as a reference to Christians in America.  God's words were about times that He punished Israel for turning away from Him.  He was referring to times that He would cut off the rain, make the land not produce food, and put them in captivity.  His statement was - paraphrased somewhat - "In answer to your prayer, Solomon, here is what I promise.  When I punish my people by making it not rain, or something like that, if they humble themselves and call on me, I will forgive them and heal their land."

What I saw there was that THEY WERE STILL PUNISHED!!!!!!!  The promise of 7:14 did not indicate that they would not be punished.  It said that God would hear them if they prayed after being punished.  My interest was piqued because I haven't seen America be punished.  I haven't seen the Christians in America be punished.  The promise of 2 Chron 7:14 wasn't given as a blank check to get the Israelites out of being punished.  It simply promised that there was a future without punishment.

I also wondered if maybe this verse does NOT apply to modern America after all.  (Since it was spoken directly to Solomon in response to his prayer concerning the Temple.)

DISCLAIMER - I am not promoting any of my "wonderments" as truths.  Even if I settle my own opinion, you are free (in my opinion) to form your own and you will not be belittled for doing so.  These are simply some things that I believe the Spirit led me to wonder about.  No prophetic utterance here. :)
I survived open heart surgery.... :)

Nards some good points from you too.

      Sure makes you wonder.

Hey!!! Has anyone else any ideas on this?  How bout you Chris, Lee, Jerry?  We haven't heard much from the men today.

      Al Moak

Since the words of the passage were directed to Israel - God's Covenant people - what are the chances that its modern application is to the present people of God, the Church?

      JudyB

Al are you suggesting that the promises which apply to the old covenant also apply to the new covenant  church?  I don't know that I have heard that before?

      JudyB

Pastor Al  taking that thought a step further, if we receive the promises, then won't we also receive the judgements?  Consequences are still consequences, even though we are forgiven.  A person who indulges in promiscuity can get AIDS, they are forgiven yet they still have the consequences to live with.  Am I thinking correctly?

Have you got problems? Please read on.  ~ Janet
      __________

      NO PROBLEM!

Don't worry if you have problems! Which is easy to say until you are
in the midst of a really big one, I know. But the only people I am
aware of who don't have troubles are gathered in little
neighborhoods. Most communities have at least one. We call them
      cemeteries.

If you're breathing, you have difficulties. It's the way of life. And
believe it or not, most of your problems may actually be good for you!
      Let me explain.

Maybe you have seen the Great Barrier Reef, stretching some 1,800
miles from New Guinea to Australia. Tour guides regularly take
visitors to view the reef. On one tour, the guide was asked an
interesting question. "I notice that the lagoon side of the reef
looks pale and lifeless, while the ocean side is vibrant and
colorful,' a traveler observed. "Why is this?"

The guide gave an interesting answer: "The coral around the lagoon
side is in still water, with no challenge for its survival. It dies
early. The coral on the ocean side is constantly being tested by wind,
waves, storms -- surges of power. It has to fight for survival every
day of its life. As it is challenged and tested it changes and adapts.
It grows healthy. It grows strong. And it reproduces." Then he added
this telling note: "That's the way it is with every living organism."

That's how it is with people. Challenged and tested, we come alive!
Like coral pounded by the sea, we grow. Physical demands can cause us
to grow stronger. Mental and emotional stress can produce
tough-mindedness and resiliency. Spiritual testing can produce
      strength of character and faithfulness.

So, you have problems -- no problem! Just tell yourself, "There I grow
      again!"

I am still battling this cough.  Man, I think this is the longest cold I have ever had.  ::)
