Morning Devotional...

The Rich Man and the Beggar
Luke 16:19-31  NLT

Jesus said, "There was a certain rich man who was splendidly clothed in purple and fine linen and who lived each day in luxury.  At his gate lay a poor man named Lazarus who was covered with sores.  As Lazarus lay there longing for scraps from the rich man's table, the dogs would come and lick his open sores.

"Finally, the poor man died and was carried by the angels to be with Abraham.  The rich man also died and was buried, and his soul went to the place of the dead.  There, in torment, he saw Abraham in the far distance with Lazarus at his side.

"The rich man shouted, 'Father Abraham, have some pity! Send Lazarus over here to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue. I am in anguish in these flames.'

"But Abraham said to him, 'Son, remember that during your lifetime you had everything you wanted, and Lazarus had nothing. So now he is here being comforted, and you are in anguish.  And besides, there is a great chasm separating us. No one can cross over to you from here, and no one can cross over to us from there.'

"Then the rich man said, 'Please, Father Abraham, at least send him to my father's home.  For I have five brothers, and I want him to warn them so they don't end up in this place of torment.'

"But Abraham said, 'Moses and the prophets have warned them. Your brothers can read what they wrote.'

"The rich man replied, 'No, Father Abraham! But if someone is sent to them from the dead, then they will repent of their sins and turn to God.'

"But Abraham said, 'If they won't listen to Moses and the prophets, they won't listen even if someone rises from the dead.'"

The Pharisees considered wealth to be a proof of a person's righteousness.  Jesus startled them with this story in which a diseased beggar is rewarded and a rich man is punished.

The rich man did not go to hell because of his wealth but because he was selfish, refusing to feed Lazarus, take him in, or care for him.  The rich man was hard-hearted in spite of his great blessings.

The amount of money we have is not as important as the way we use it.  What is your attitude toward your money and possessions?  Do you hoard them selfishly, or do you use them to help others?

I actually didn't do too much today except go to the bank.

Nancy called and said she was sore but was doing fine.

I called and made reservations for next Thursday to see a live musical at BearCreek Farms in east central Indiana and to stay in the Whirlpool Suite at the Super 8 in Portland, Indiana.  Remember me winning second in the Indiana Historical Society Photo Contest?  Both of those above were part of the winnings along with two $6 coupons off of two lunchs and if I buy ½lb of fudge, I get 3lbs.  (Like I really need that  :-\)  So Ivalou and I are going on an outing next week.

And I called my step-daughter to wish her Happy Birthday.  I was surprised.  She is divorced.  I didn't know that.  She is the one that lives about 45 minutes away.  I may have to go see her soon.

That's it for Indiana!!

What a great message tonight, Etta Sue.  Thanks!

I'm not feeling well today so have been very scarce.  I'm off to my bed now.

But first I thought I'd share with you a photo taken by Kevin and he got Photo of the Week on Photography Cafe!

I'll get the post from there to show you.

From Kevin:

"What a great honor to have my picture chosen.  I am originally from southwest Louisiana, a waterfowl paradise.  It has always been a dream of mine to be able to shoot water birds, and to put them in a frame and not in a pot with onions and garlic.  No, we don't eat swans in Louisiana!

I found this big bird in a pond not too far from the Kintai Bridge, where several ducks were preening and keeping a wary eye on me.  Suddenly, the big swan showed up and got really close, maybe hoping for a handout.  The sun was just peeking through the trees to my right and provided some nice light, almost a bit too much for the white feathers, but a couple of the shots looked quite nice.  I chose to convert it to black and white simply because I didn't like the color of the pond water.  It looked nice, so I did my routine sharpening thing and that was that.

Here's the data, for you folks who like that sort of stuff.

- Aperture Priority @ f4.5
- Exposure Bias, -1/3
- ISO 100
- Lens, EF 135 F2L
- Camera, Canon Digital Kiss N (350D/Rebel XT)
- RAW, Converted to JPEG using DPP, then processed a bit in PS CP
- "white bird" is the direct translation of the Japanese word for "swan"

Again, thank you so much for this special honor.

Kevin"

CONGRATULATIONS KEVIN!

Please leave a comment in Kevin's album and also in our POTW Archive area.  We all appreciate comments!

God is washing and refreshing the earth this morning.  I think that punctuates the season change.  Pat - at least there'll be no more mowing this season!  So if you can recover from that one, then you're in the clear!  Well, gotta go, 'cause we'll be lunching at the Sr. center today.  They'll be having chicken pizza!

Hi everyone.  We are having a temperature drop and it went down 10 degrees in a three hour time this morning.

Today is Calvin Cove and I also need to get busy on fixing up the CD's with the midi files converted to MP3s for the songs we sing at Calvin Cove.  I think I have mentioned that I am going to give this up after Christmas but want them to have music to use when the sing.  It will also give the director the option of doing this when it fits into her program rather than when I am there.

Etta Sue, thanks for the devotional for today.

Kevin, that is quite an outstanding photo and such a contrast of light and dark.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Kevin:  Your swan picture is just outstanding!

Larry:  Would you believe that Don was able to take out all of the vinyl flooring yesterday?  It wasn't too difficult.

We are going to just dilly dally today as next week the chaos begins.  Actually, we will start boxing up everything in the kitchen cabinets to get that cleared and ready for take-down & the cabinets are going to be recycled (most of them) to go into a rental unit belonging to a friend.  I am going to try to talk Don into helping me look for Christmas gifts for the grands because we will be so occupied from now on.

In talking with a gal just introduced to us this week, she has already visited our church - loves the organ music and likes to sing.  We didn't know she was there because they go to a different service but they don't want to join anything until they visit more churches.  They were so active in their home church in another state that they want to get into things slowly.

Al"  How nicely you put it - cleaning & washing this earth.  I am afraid that we need a lot more washing in today's society.

Good Morning from a wet and cold island.  That is a great devotional, Etta Sue.  I wish some of our gov. leaders would take it to  heart!

What a terrific photo, Kevin. I love your photography.

We took Squeek (cat) to the vet at 9 A.M. for her yearly shots and check-up.  She was not pleased >:(

Yest. I went and had the much delayed Laser Treatment on one of my eyes to try and reduce the pressure.  Have Glaucoma and can't use the drops.   The second eye will be done in a few weeks.  Also will have to have the catarracts removed next year sometime....if there is ever any opening to get it done.  Use a magnifying glass for most things now.  Ever tried holding a book and page magnifier in one hand while petting a cat with the other?  Thank goodness for zoom on the computer..... :)

Not much to talk about.  Have gone carpet bowling a couple of times, went to Victoria for errands.  Same old same old.  Wendy has not been well and so do some of the necessary things she can't take care of....Amanda is also ill with a virus and home today.  Seems the whole valley has viruses right now.  Can't get our flu shots for another week.   Not available.

I have just finished a really nice book 'Finding Noel', written by the author of 'The Christmas Box' and 'A Perfect Day.'  If you are going to read it, have a box of tissue handy.  Richard Paul Evans is the founder of The Christmas House foundation and he writes the nicest books.

We had lots of kids for Halloween and I gave out the candy for Wendy.  It means going up and down the stairs lots.  Got to get a treat myself....you know what that saying is, "Chocolate is God's apology for broccoli."  Wouldn't mind another serving.....

Pleasant Day/Evening all and God Bless.

Liz

Hi Everyone,

:coffee:  Thanks for the kind words about my photo. <3  Just blessed with good timing, good light, and a big bird that was showing off real close to me.

Thank you Etta Sue for the good Word today.

I'm continuing through Hebrews 1 this morning (it's Friday morning here).  Let me share what I read with my mug o' dark roast just minutes ago.

Regarding angels he says,

The messengers are winds,
the servants are tongues of fire.

But he says to the Son,

   You're God, and on the throne for good;
      your rule makes everything right.
   You love it when things are right;
you hate it when things are wrong.
That is why God, your God,
poured fragrant oil on your head,
   Marking you out as king,
      far above your dear companions.

In His Grip,
Kevin

Liz, I must say again---I love your posts!  You always maintain a sense of humor even in the midst of problems.  Good for you!  I also love Richard Paul Evans' books, must look for the new one.  I need to go to the library and see what I can find, as I have sort of gotten out of the reading habit these past few months, and I miss it.  Just seems like there is always too much to do!!

Carol, sounds like you and Don are making great progress on your renovation.  There always seems to be a project waiting in the wings, huh?

Larry, I'm sure the Calvin Cove folks will miss you, but it is so thoughtful of you to prepare the music so they can continue their singing.  You are a blessing.

Etta Sue, such nice prizes you won!  Enjoy!!  Good devotional, too.

Al, I hope God chooses to wash our area sometime soon, too.  I like the way that sounds.

Hi, Marilyn.

Sarah, your friend getting married at this time reminds me so much of the book "A Walk to Remember."  I like thinking that the miracle of love saved that girl's life (they didn't say that she died, right?) and maybe your friend will also receive a miracle.  God bless.

I had a most frustrating morning, taking Beth to the doctor and dealing with all that involves.  Wound up crying all the way home, unloaded the frustrations on my loving and patient spouse, and ended up with a stress headache.  Should have talked to myself, prayed more, taken deep breaths..........all of the ablove.  It wasn't Beth, just her awful situation...........

Pat I hope you are feeling much better by now.  We need our Admin. healthy and happy.

Kevin, that swan photo is just breathtaking!!  Congratulations!

Kevin - is that the "Message" version?  My NKJV reads, "Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You with the oil of gladness more than Your companions."  There's no hint in the Greek at that point that the "anointing" is referring to an anointing as king.  What do you think about it?

We have had lots of wonderful rain and wind today.  In a break, I ran out and got the last of the ripening tomatoes.  I don't think the green ones will make it.  Looks like rain is here for awhile.

 ;)Good evening to all.

I know that you have been continuing to pray for my wife and I.  The Lord is so good to us as we have just returned from a beautiful trip to the south Caribbean Cruise which was agift to us by my sister -in law.  I never dreamed that I would get to do this kind of a trip and go to so many different ports.  God is so great and he has made so much beauty on this earth and we saw some of it the last couple of weeks. Praise his name.

Etta Sue.  Thank you for your devotional they are always so good.

Pat.  I am sorry to here that you are not feeling good we will pray for you, so dont do to much.

Kevin.  That is a beautiful picture I have always loved swans they are such a beutiful bird.

Could you all remember the family of a police officer who pasted away last week and was only 52 years old he died of cancer and also a lady who died on Sunday her family mourning this loss thank the Lord they were Christian.

May the Lord richly Bless you all the rest of this week. Goed.

Al,

Yes, it is the Message.

I don't know what Dr Peterson would say or why he chose to go that route.  My thoughts are that it should be read in context with the previous "verse" where the writer certainly spoke of the kingship of Messiah.

But about the Son he says,
"Your throne, O God, will last forever and ever,
and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom.
NKJV

Throne, scepter, and kingdom, are all kingly possessions, and anointing, if traced back to 1 and 2 Samuel, Psalms, and elsewhere, was used to designate Israel's kings, and throughout Psalms pointed to royal lineage, in particular, the lineage of Messiah.

So given all that, I don't see a problem with interpreting it as Dr Peterson did when considering what is inferred in the previous verse and the importance of kingship in this letter.  But as you pointed out, the greek in verse 9 alone, would not translate or refer to an anointing as king.

It would be interesting to contact Dr Peterson to hear his thoughts, don't you think?

Gripped,
Kevin

Good morning!  I do truly feel the joy of the Lord today.  Aren't you glad that JOY is not the same as HAPPINESS?  JOY comes from a relationship with and a trust in God, while HAPPINESS is largely dependent on our circumstances.

So, while the circumstances for my daughter Beth continue to deteriorate in the natural, I can have JOY knowing that God loves her even more than I ever could, and that He will take care of her.  He is so good, gives us good gifts in good ways, and will never leave us nor forsake us.  Praise His wonderful Name. :)

Carol, sorry about that cold getting you, hope it passes very quickly!

I have been invited over to my friend Burla's house for coffee this morning.  She lives on the other side of the highway, maybe 3 miles East of us.  That will be a real treat.  Christian fellowship is always so encouraging.

See you later!

Brrrr! It's cold in Indiana. Ivalou called this morning and we are going out to lunch and to a movie.  "Flicka" was suggested along with another.  So this ought to be fun.  It has been awhile since going to the movies for me.

My step-daughter called me last night and just now, this morning.  Seems her and one of her sisters wants information about their Dad that I don't know anything about....ancestery things.  And all of Bud's brothers and sisters are deceased also.  So they are going to have to rely on others sources for information.  But it was great to talk to her.  Mary is one out of five kids that I am the closest to and have contact with.

I had better get moving.  Even though it is bright and sunny, I know it is cold out there....brrrr!

Hi everyone.  I just finished lunch.  Went to the senior center in our little town this morning for coffee at 7 am.  As soon as I got home I went to Fry's Electronics as they are opening a new store on the other side of Atlanta and were having a very nice sale.  I bought $138 worth but there is $86 of rebates on the items I purchased.

Not much new here today.  It was about 37 degrees this morning and only into the higher 40s at this time.  Just plan to rest this afternoon and then work on a music project for Calvin Cove.  This is slow work but I have the tools I need to do the job.

Janet, it is perfectly fine to shed those tears to relieve the tension.  After all those are a gift from God.  Sorry to read that Beth isn't doing well and know that has to be so hard on you to see this happening.

Etta Sue, I haven't been to a movie in a long time  Hope you find an enjoyable movie.  Everytime I think about going I look at the listings and decide there is nothing worth the time and effort or that I want to spend my money on.

Carol, sorry to read of your cold and hope it doesn't linger.  Glad to read that the flooring came up without a great deal of toil.  It sounds like you all have quite a project planned.

Kevin and Al, interesting discussion.

Time for my nap.  This is one of the benefits of being retired.

Speaking of movies, have any of you yet seen One Night With the King or Facing the Giants?  Both are Christian movies, and I'm hearing glowing reports about them.  I want to see both of those.  But we very, very seldom go to movies.  I'll sure make an effort to get to those when they come to this area, though!

Kevin - yes indeed, it would be highly interesting to talk to Dr. Peterson!  My feeling about translation, though, is fairly simplistic - my rule would be translate only what is plainly indicated by the words used, and leave the interpretation to God and to those of His servants who truly seek His truth.  I do see what you're saying, though, and the idea of kingship surely is not foreign to the passage.
Title: Re: New Every Morning~November 2, 3 & 4

Quoteleave the interpretation to God and to those of His servants who truly seek His truth.

Leaving the interpretation to God I can see, but who can decide who are His servants who "truly seek His truth", and those who are not?

When I'm really studying a concept or something that has jumped out at me, I like to use several translations including KJ, JKJ, NIV, Message, Living, etc...you get the picture.  I know that there are those who have studied greek, hebrew, and know waaaay more than me.  The most important is to know that God is able to reveal His Word.  We have the Holy Spirit right here in us, we have the Mind of Christ.  Truth will always rise to attention when we are surrendered to God, willing to learn and willing to relearn when necessary.   I hope I am.  I think one of the things that really bother me is when Scripture is used out of context.   That can be done in any version.  :-\

I guess I don't want to get carried away. :)

My sister is home for the weekend.  She loves her job and the couple she takes care of, and the house they live in.  Very old and well kept, with huge rooms, huge furniture.  She said the headboard of her bed is halfway to the ceiling, it is so tall, and she has to jump up some to get on the bed. She snuggles down just like a princess.  A child of the King. :)

Hey there Nita ... I understand what you are saying and I know your heart.  I believe Holy Spirit can teach us all things and He will ... Nuff said.

I have been in contact with my daughter Joy and plans are shaping up.  I think I will be seeing her on the day after Thanksgiving when she will drive up from Sacramento and we will then go together to visit with her sister and her girls in Spokane.  Other things will be happening but the agenda is not written in stone as yet so .... whatever!!!  haha

I'll be busily getting things around here spruced up... stuff just keeps needing attention and I just keep needing to pay that attention I guess.

Y'all take care.....

Good morning all,
Sorry I haven't posted in a little while things have been busy.

Michael had a seizure the other morning so I have been watching him like a hawk hoping he doesn't have another and so far so good. The homedraw guy came yesterday and drew blood for a lamictal level so now have to wait 10 days to find out if he is still in the proper range. I'm just hoping he isn't having break through seizures. :(

I finally went to the doctors for myself and they think I have either torn or furthur damaged the rotater cuff in my right shoulder. Wed. will be an MRI.

Please say a prayer for our mission team who leaves at 6:30this am. They are going to Louisianna to help in the continuing efforts down there. And maybe an extra small one for my Pastor, Kevin who is terrified of flying.

To all those who asked for prayer, I will pray for you. (Sorry I don't remember names all that well)

     Wonderful devotion "today".

      Kevin,  awesome picture!

Well, everyone have a blessed day and take care.

Blessings,
<><Jeannine

Jane - those who truly seek the truth are known only of God.  We thank Him for their preaching and teaching - and the Holy Spirit witnesses with our spirits that the teaching actually IS of God and is in accordance with the written Word.

Well, gotta go shopping at our local discount grocery today.  It's called Winco, and you can save approximately 20 percent there on most items.  That's my kinda store!

Good Morning. Nita I see what you are saying also and am in total agreement with both you and Jane. I have several versions and if I need to  get a better understanding of a scripture i go to another version. For Women's Bible study we are  instructed to read and concentrate in the Four Gospels to really get to know Jesus.

I am going to Curves to workout again today.  It will be the fourth day this week. Yesterday I finally made it  around the circuit twice, they recommend at least 2 ½ times.  There are little running pads in between each  piece of equipment so we do 10 seconds on each thing running pads and equipment. One really works up a sweat and the gets the heart rate up quickly.

After I come home and get cleaned up Willa and I are going to Breakfast at Denney's, where they serve breakfast all the time.

At the caregivers dinner I won a gift certificate to Marie Callendars, I will take Jan there sometime in the future to have lunch on my certificate.

I am listening to a CD by John Tesch called an Invitation to Pray and Worship.

We saw the movie 'Man of the Year' with Robin Williams in it.  Big mistake.  Why does people think that stuff is funny?  We ate at an MCL Cafeteria.  Another Big Mistake.  Ate too much.  Then we went to a book store to find a book...another diet book.  We found it at WalMart so once we read the book, we are going to try it out.  Ivalou didn't get good numbers when she had her yearly blood tests...can't lose her if she can get help with diet and all are diet related.  It is just so easy to eat out!!

Another bright and sunny day but cold...only 37° F right now.  I have already been to the bank and to the local convenience store for a capacchino (sp).  Now to get caught up online and read my book!

Jeannine, I've noted your prayer requests for your group.  And for yourself, dear lady.  Let us know what you find out.  Do they have to do surgery for that?   Is Michael still seizure free this afternoon?   Jeannine, exactly what is a break through seizure?  I want to understand.

Marilyn, I'm always so blessed when I listen to John Tesch.  I saw a video of
a live worship recording he did with lots of others.  I can't remember where.  Hollywood Bowl?  I felt as if I was right there with them.  It was so powerful.

Janet, I haven't seen either movie, though I want to.  Maybe they'll be here later.

From The Message, the "Preface:  To the Reader", the first three lines of the last paragraph.

"The Message is a reading Bible.  It is not intended to replace the excellent study Bibles that are available.  My intent here (as it was earlier in my congregation and community) is simply to get people reading it who don't know that the Bible is read-able at all, at least to them, and get people who long ago lost interest in the Bible to read it again."

Here's what I read this glorious, Sunday morning, from Hebrews 3.

So, my dear Christian friends, companions in following this call to the heights, take a good hard look at Jesus. He's the centerpiece of everything we believe,  faithful in everything God gave him to do. Moses was also faithful,  but Jesus gets far more honor. A builder is more valuable than a building any day.  Every house has a builder, but the Builder behind them all is God.  Moses did a good job in God's house, but it was all servant work, getting things ready for what was to come.  Christ as Son is in charge of the house.  Now, if we can only keep a firm grip on this bold confidence, we're the house!

In His Grip,  :coffee:

We went to a hockey game this morning - grandson's team lost by two points to a bunch of guys either one or two years older & much larger.  Good game though.  Then, listened to two of the grands play their piano, chatted with each of them and had to come home.  Don is exhausted so no church tonight & I won't drive there with the halo problem at night (my new implanted lens is just awful but should get better).

Janet:  My heart goes out to you when you tell us of your toughest days.  I don't have a cold - I took Air-bourne or Wel-bourne seltzer tablet & am fine.

Larry:  No cold - or it was knocked out by the seltzer tablet - Wel-bourne.  Don is dragging - he feels quite tired and will stay home now.  We do have a project in the kitchen & it is going to be a racket when they begin the work.

Jane:  You have a nice trip to look forward to - with your daughter.

Jeannine:  You ask that we pray for the work group going to Louisiana.  I will, and I am adding you and Michael as well.  May the angels surround you.

We have huge pictures and headlines concerning the pastor in Colorado Springs - it is sad that he is dragging his family into this mess.

Kevin, et al, I think that the Message would be a really good companion to studying a "study" Bible, as it would possibly tend to throw some light on some passages.  So, my final, official pronouncement is - GO FOR IT!

I left home at 7 this morning and got home at 7 this evening.  It was my monthly meeting of my painting group, but what a long way to drive to do a little project.  The fellowship, food and fun was worth it, though.

We painted on tumbled marble tiles, 4 X 4 inches, the hostess/teacher's husband had put cork on the backs, so we painted a set of 4 coasters, in the four seasons.  I got the third one almost done, will do the other on my own.....sometime.  :-\

It was good for me to get away for a day.

I agree that The Message paraphrase sheds a bit different light on the Word, and is helpful when used in tandem with other versions.  Our pastor reads from it sometimes to show a little different or clearer meaning.

My eyes are really feeling tired and grainy tonight.  I'm feeling for you, Carol!

It's been interesting reading your comments on various versions.  Guess I'm just old fashioned.  I do enjoy the poetry of the King James Version but I also like the Amplified and the New King James.  I just recently purchased a hard cover study Bible just for my own use which is the English Standard Version but I believe a very recent version with corrections to some mistranslated portions from years ago.  I once read (and I do think it was in an NIV Bible over in Ireland a few years ago where it referred to the virgin Mary as being just "a young girl" and to me that definitely took away from the Virgin Birth that we as Christians know it.  I try to stay away from anything that takes away from the Deity of God our Saviour and his perfect character.  Just my thoughts on this to add to all of yours.  It was good to read all the ideas today.

Maybe time to sing a hymn?

I like this oldie.  My mother-in-law used to hum this a lot when I lived over in Ireland.

Just received this in an email and it's just such a wonderful reminder as we enter the Lord's Day...

Lovest Thou Me?

Hark, my soul! It is the Lord;
'Tis thy Saviour, hear His word;
Jesus speaks, and speaks to thee:
Say, poor sinner, lovest thou Me?

I delivered thee when bound,
And when bleeding, healed thy wound;
Sought thee wandering, set thee right,
Turned thy darkness into light.

Can a woman's tender care
Cease towards the child she bare?
Yes, she may forgetful be,
Yet will I remember thee.

Mine is an unchanging love,
Higher than the heights above;
Deeper than the depths beneath,
Free and faithful, strong as death.

Thou shalt see My glory soon,
When the work of grace is done;
Partner of my throne shalt be:
Say, poor sinner, lovest thou Me?

Lord, it is my chief complaint,
That my love is weak and faint;
Yet I love Thee and adore;
Oh for grace to love Thee more!

So far he has been seizure free since that episode on Wed. A "break through" seizure is where you still have a seizure even though you have the recommended level of whatever medicine it is in your blood stream. They aren't fun for the person having them or the one who has to monitor them.

As for the shoulder, I will know more after the MRI on this wed. coming.

Thanks for the prayers for our mission group.

Pat So good to have you back and I do pray that you are feling better. That photo is so lovely and such a peaceful place.

Good morning to all, It is 6:25 Am I have been up since 5 awake since 4:45, my body and the dgs have not adjusted to the time change yet. After feeding them I sat down with the Lord for about an hour, talking with him then reading my Bible, such is my morning routine. I love spending that time with Him before daylight when all is so quiet.

Pat to answer your question I usually pay all my bills online except the water bill,(their office is just down the road from me) and my rent which I mail. Some I pay over the phone, that I can't pay online.

I am home from church.  It's November and that's the month my church talks about money.  Both minister's did very good getting the point across and not stepping on anyone's toes.  Very good!

I ate lunch and then went to Home Depot.   I found a resin shelving unit for my basement.  My metal one was rusting out and leaning like the Tower of Pisa!  I just knew anytime I would hear a big crash and would have to go down and clean it all up.  The new unit is up and junk is on it...junk to me but maybe not junk to the furnace man, or the plumber or another service person.  And the metal unit is at the back door ready for trash tomorrow.  I think I will see what else I can put in my cart and fill it up before carting it all to Kaye Don's for trash pick up.

Now I am ready to relax but I am not done yet.  Another trip to the garage!  Then I will be able to relax.

I forgot to mention....Pat, no wonder you got POTD with that picture.  It looks like a Thomas Kincade picture!  Beautiful!

Pat, your picture is so beautiful. :)  And I too do my bill paying online.  At first it was just ones that weren't local, but over time, I've placed all accounts in my online billpay, and it's so easy.  I think the only one I don't have on there is my tax payment.  Still pay them by check.

Rainy, rainy, rainy.  I was up before dawn, same as Marilyn, and opened the blinds to watch the splats on the window, reflected from the lamp.  Then it was daylight and raining still.  I just sat and smiled and found my heart overflowing with gratitude for all God has given me.  Not just the rain, not just the always green of the trees, but His very Presence.

"Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, purify your hearts and don't be double minded."  James 4:8

We can't think like the world and think like God.  We can't fit in the world and fit in the Kingdom.  We will be uncomfortable in one or the other.   Lord, I don't want to be comfortable in the world or with its view. I want to fit perfectly in Your Kingdom, reflecting Your ways.

Happy Sunday afternoon, everyone!

Pat, I remember the Revised Standard referred to Mary the mother of Jesus as "a young woman" and the furor that ensued.  Maybe other versions have made the same 'mistake" (I do not think it was a mistake, I believe it was an intentional thing from the enemy.)  I love the King James because that's what I was raised with, and also love the Amplified because I can hear it better.  ;)  Really, because it clarifies things, using the meanings of the original Greek and Hebrew words.  And for just reading the Word, I do enjoy the Message paraphrase (not a translation.)

Well----a death sentence for Saddam Hussein.  What will this mean to the situation in Iraq?  Pray, friends, pray!

Pat, I LOVE that photo, would love to have an enlargement to frame and hang on my wall!

I hope this posts this time!

Good morning...Monday morning here...  :coffee:

I started on the KJV, too.  I was certainly happy when someone gave me a New American Standard, and even happier when I found the NIV, though!

I usually plan what version to read for a year, and stick to reading that version.  When I study to teach others, or when I have a doubt about a passage in a particular version, I go to another version, then, if necessary, dust off my greek NT, wrench my brain cells, get on my knees, and see what the Holy Spirit will teach me.

Without a doubt, though, whenever I witness to a young person (who speaks English), and end up giving him a new testament and encourage them to read it, it is NOT the King James version.  I give them The Message or the New International Version, without hesitation, 'cause I know they will be more likely read either of those, simply because it is in today's English!

I get a kick out of preachers who say the King James is the only version they use and recommend, then spend a great deal of their sermon time "explaining" each verse for their listeners, before they even begin to preach!  I guess they are qualified to paraphrase. :D

From my reading on this Monday morning, a couple of lines that I will meditate on today...from Hebrews 4.

God means what he says. What he says goes. His powerful Word is sharp as a surgeon's scalpel, cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense, laying us open to listen and obey.  Nothing and no one is impervious to God's Word. We can't get away from it—no matter what.

In His Grip,
Kevin

Hi everyone.  We had a very nice morning at church with a combined service to kick off our stewardship campaign.  We had a combination of contemporary and traditional in the service and it was nice to see all members together rather than in separate services.  Following the service, which lasted over 90 minutes, we had a congregational luncheon catered by one of the bar-b-que places.  The food was good.  We came home and had a nice nap and thought our son and daughter-in-law would be here late this afternoon but he called awhile ago and said they would see us tomorrow as they hadn't left for Atlanta yet.  They are going to be in town a couple of days.

Pat, that was a beautiful photo.  Our trees have just be beyond description this year and I have heard numerous people commenting on them.  There was no need to go to the mountains to see the leaves this year as we have many trees around us and they are wearing a wide variety of colors.

I have used online bill paying for several years and really like it.

I have appreciated the postings the last couple of days.
