Morning Devotional...

An Arrogant King

And Abimelech the son of Jerubbaal went to Shechem to his mother's relatives, saying, "speak now, in the hearing of all the leaders of Shechem,  'Which is better for you, that seventy men, all the sons of Jerubbaal, rule over you or that one man rule over you?'  Also , remember that I am your bone and your flesh."
                              Judges 9:1-2

After the death of Jerubbalal (Gideon), one of his own sons devised a plot to fill the power gap and become king.

"Then he went to his father's house at Ophrah, and killed his brothers the sons of Jerubbaal, seventy men, on one stone.  But Jotham the youngest sons of Jerubbaal was left, for he hid himself"
(Judges 9:5).

Even knowing this man to be a murderer, the men of Shechem and the surrounding area gathered together and crowned Abimelech king.

Jotham called these people of Shechem to accountabliity, reminding them of how fairly the'd been treated by Gidion.  When they refused to listen, he called for a curse from God upon them and escaped to Beer.  The people chose to follow Abimelech for three years.

"Then God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech, in order that the violence done to the seventy sons of Jerubbaal might come" (Judges 9:23-24).
The God of justice always intervenes to bring the course of history in line with his own design.

Prayer~Lord, Your eyes see everything.  You are God of unswerving justice.

FOR THE GREAT BIRTHDAY GREETINGS....AND A BELATED ONE TO YOU TO MATT !
sORRRY IHAVE NOT STOPPED BY  FOR A WHILE...I HAVE HAD MAJOR COMPUTER PROBLEMS...
LIKE MY HARD DRIVE SAID" GET EVY THING OFF HERE...I'M DYING! ...SO WITH OVER
70 GIG TO SAVE i HAVE BEEN DOING A LOT OF CD'S...SOME OF THAT STUFF I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON FOR YEARS AND COULD NOT AFFORD TO JUST LET IT " DIE "...I STILL HAVE PROBLEMS BUT MOST OF THE DATA IS SAFE NOW, AND PRAISE THE LORD I LOST VERY LITTLE OF IT !

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

EACH MORNING IN AFRICA A HIEENA WAKES UP AND KNOWS HE WILL HAVE TO RUN FASTER THEN A LION TO SURVIVE ....AND EACH MORNING  A LION WAKES UP AND KNOWS HE MUST RUN FASTER THAN THAT HIENNA TO EAT.....SO EVERYDAY REGARDLESS OF WHO WE ARE WE BETTER  START THE DAY ON THE RUNNING ... November 20

Spiritual Warfare and Sin: Examine Yourself

Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties;
and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way
everlasting.
--Psalm 139:23-24

The philosopher Socrates said, "An unexamined life is not worth
living." If a common philosopher could think that, how much more we
Christians ought to listen to the Holy Spirit when He says,
"Examine yourself." An unexamined Christian lies like an
unattended garden. Let your garden go unattended for a few months,
and you will not have roses and tomatoes but weeds. An unexamined
Christian life is like an unkempt house. Lock your house up as
tight as you will and leave it long enough, and when you come back
you will not believe the dirt that got in from somewhere. An
unexamined Christian is like an untaught child. A child that is not
taught will be a little savage. It takes examination, teaching,
instruction, discipline, caring, tending, weeding and cultivating
to keep the life right.  Rut, Rot or Revival: The Condition of the
Church, 43.

"Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my
anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in
the way everlasting. Amen"

Good morning all,

Soni, thanks for the devotional, and thanks Chris for the reminder.

Larry,  yes, cutting down the saplings is a lot of work, but it's a lot harder if we let it grow up for several years in a row.

Hi Janet,  I guess I should have noted that Michael, my husband, uses the chain saw to cut the larger trees down, then I use the pruning loppers to cut the branches into smaller pieces. I hope you have a great trip.

Larry ~ Now that's the kind of news I like to hear.  Praise God.

OK Tom ~ My last name is Gann and I noticed in your list of quartets, The Gann Brothers Quartet.  Now there were four brothers in my husbands family but they weren't a singing quartet.  My husband sang and played the guitar, mandolin and some banjo.  The rest 'tried' to sing but they could have never became a singing quartet.  Very interesting.  These quartets are older than me.  I only recognized one name.

Sonja ~ Thanks for the devotional.

Suzanne ~ I love that link!!!  Gives me chills, too.

A gloomy, damp day around here.  But no snow yet and it is the latter half of November.  I would be happy to not have snow until December 24th!!!  One of those light, fluffy snows...then it starts melting December 25th in the evening.  And then warm up to around 65° and stay there until Spring when it gets warmer yet!!!  ........ I can dream, can't I????

We had a nice uneventful drive back home from Hilton Head yesterday.

It is good to read all the posts today.  We are both a little tired from the trip yesterday so we aren’t doing much today.  I’m getting ready to watch the UT/Vanderbilt game.

Larry I was very happy to hear you are getting good reports on your condition.  God bless you, brother.

Everything is ready for Thanksgiving family except the baking and cooking.  We have a winter storm warning and it has been lightly snowing since the middle of the night.

Pat:  Thanks for Abba Father song.  It is so soothing.  I must say that we are not working with the homeless now because there have been so many fights amongst them.  Even knife fights and threats from the alcoholics.  It is something we don't want to handle. Catholic's has a place for them on cold days and the Salvation Army is feeding them - so there won't be a good place to meet and talk with them until another place is built.

I always enjoy the news in here - it is a good place to come for spiritual refreshments.

Hi everyone.  Just got up from a nice afternoon nap that I took after I had my "Bubba" burger for lunch.  This was something new that Pat had heard about and is a hamburger but these had sweet onions in them.  They were quite tasty.  Plan to watch a little football this afternoon and then this evening Pat and I are going to the church where there is a special program, 2 young men who use humor as they tell various Bible stories.  They have been doing this since 1987 and are apparently very good.  I wil report later.

Welcome go Logar, glad you have you posting on CP.

Carol, we will be having Thanksgiving here with our family as Pat has already gotten the food.  I will do my part and eat it.  ;)  Hope your winter storm warning will be just that in the Denver area.

Nich, glad to see you back posting.  I will also check out your photos.

Papa John, glad to see you and Cornelia are back home safe and sound and all rested up.  It is nice to have a change of pace and the Hilton Head area is very beautiful.

Etta Sue, that is a very interesting webpage.  I have bookmarked it for future reference.  I must say you don't want much in terms of snow!!   ;D  Hope you get your way.

Sonja, thanks for the devotional this morning and I hope your photo shoot and dance goes very well.

Gwen, that cutting up of small branches is a lot of work.  Builds strong arms, however.

Hi Chris & Margit Saunders, I continue to enjoy your Tozar postings and the photography minsitry you share with us.

Jerryc, glad you are on top of your computer problem.  You are fortunate that you were able to get your files saved.

Suzanne, that is a awesome link.  Thanks for brining it to our attention.

Thank you all again for the words of encouragement and the prayers on my behalf.

Nita, it sounds like Amy is doing well.  Hope the new owner-to-be is able to stop by.

Pat, the hymn "Praise Him, Priase Him" certainly fits the way I am feeling.

Janet, glad your frames came in time and it sounds like everything is coming to a successful conclusion as you prepare for your wonderful trip.  Don't forget your camera!

Beth, certainly good to read that you were able to walk a few steps.  That is indeed progress.  I can't imagine what life would be if I didn't believe there was a God.

Tom, I have heard of several of the quartets and especially remember hearing the Blackwood Brothers on the radio as I was growing up on the farm.

Pat, Al, Eddie and anyone else I missed making a comment to it was good to see you posting.

My Pat wants me to go to the store so guess I had better get on my way.

I went to pick up Beth's "Share" groceries, brought those home and put them away for her.  Then worked more on framing, and the customer who needed her order before I leave came and picked it us.  She was so thrilled with the way it turned out, and that's always a good feeling.

Abby and I then went to the Civic Center for a huge craft show they have each November.  My goodness, there was SO much stuff there!  The things we saw the most of were jewelry and candles!  We walked all through it and looked; then to the food court to eat a bite, then decided what we wanted to buy.  Bet you'd never guess what that was!  Two Barbie Doll outfits for her dolls.  8)  Nothing for me, as I already have too much STUFF, and besides, I couldn't justify buying anything just before leaving for Thailand where things are so much less expensive.

Darrel had to go back to Liberal on a trouble call, and he got home just after we did.  It is sprinkling rain and pretty cool, snow still predicted for tonight and tomorrow.  I hope Abby's family get home safely!  I mean I PRAY so.  :)

Good devotion, Soni!  How did your photo shoot and your dance go?

Chris, that Tozer one was really good, too.  He really "nails" it, doesn't he?

Larry, it's really nice of you to do your part for the Thanksgiving dinner!  ;)  I love your sense of humor.

Preach the Gospel wherever you go; and if you have to, use words.

Hi everyone. I am finally here but I guess nobody missed me.

I called Jasc and order the PSP ( boxed yesterday morning so that is taken care of. I love m,y PSP 8, so I know 9 will really be nice to have. I have one more lesson to complete inthe artics category then I will wait for the Masters class to start.

Got home early from work today.

I am getting so sick of AOL and getting kicked off line their constant things that tell me they have to restart etc. that I am thinking of going cable for the computer and the TV. I checked on line at Cox and it says that this address isnot whatever it is. But this house had cable before so they don't know what they are talking about. I will have to phone them.

Right, Marilyn!  We just assume you're busy and will check in when you get to it.  We all have changing schedules.

I have been cleaning the kitchen.  Amazing how the crud can build up in hidden crevices.   :P  I kept asking myself all the time I was working on that "Why are you doing this?  Don't you need to finish your packing?  Are you sure you have everything you need?"  I guess I'm nuts!  ;D

Abby is thoroughly enjoying spoiling little George.  And he loves every minute of it, too.

Gotta run do more frame corners.  Later!

Marilyn - You certainly are missed.....

Janet:  Who is little George?  Did anyone happen too see Oprah yesterday (or maybe it was Thursday)., well, whenever it was, I'll never complain about my clutter again.  They had a lady on who hadn't had anyone into her house for two years, and was her home ever a mess!....JUST FILTH EVERYWHERE.  She had 3 dogs, and they used the house for a bathroom., she had 2 birds that had gotten out of their cage, and she couldn't catch them, sooo, well, you know the rest.

I just had to mention all this, when I read where Janet was cleaning her house....Janet - I hope you saw that Oprah program I'm speaking about.....believe me....your home is a palace!

That poor lady needs prayer!

Suzanne_  That site you put in here gave me goose bumps too....beautiful, and thank you!

Karmat:  How are you these days?  When is your due date...soon isn't it?  I'm thinking of you!

Golly - I'm missing so many of our CPers... I hope some come in soon so we can wish them a Happy Thanksgiving!!

Have a great Sunday!

Nards, please give Karma my love---and keep some for yourself too!  ;)

JudyMc---little George is the remaining puppy of the litter our dog had.  He's such a cutie, and roly-poly.  No, my house isn't filthy like the one you were talking about.  This was just stuff like crud behind the sink faucets, dirty electric can opener, etc., etc.  Nothing big, stuff you just don't see when doing the "quick once-over."  I rarely ever watch Oprah.

Abby and I need to go take our showers.  I got a call from her Mom a while ago, they were on the way home and hadn't yet run into the snow, but it was raining pretty hard where they were at that time.  Last time I looked, it had stopped snowing here.

I will pop in tomorrow to bid you all adieu before I hit the trail!   ;D

I have finally finished all the PSP Artistis lessons you can view all 5 weeks lessons
HERE (http://www.freewebs.com/marilyn_793/pspartists.htm)

Now I will have more time here and doing other things. Like making my Christmas cards.

Got some upsetting news inthe mail today. My paycheck will not be here by Thanksgiving, the payroll clerk messed up on the amount of hours I am entitlted to and voided my time sheet. I have to have Fay sign another  and mail it on Monday. It takes 5-7 days before my check comes from Sacramento. as I am paid by the state for the county of Humboldt

I have been helping Gilbert with some knowledge about his father's side of the family and sarah's mother (who is a Private detective) got the information he wanted. I provided all the names and dates of family members. This is good for him because He didn't know much about his uncles I sheltered him from them as they were pretty bad characters. He was only 9 when his father was murdered. and I only kept in touch with his grandparents.
