JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Morning Devotional...

Failure and Success:
The Scramble for Popularity

Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
--Matthew 5:11-12

Popular Judaism slew the prophets and crucified Christ. Popular Christianity killed the Reformers, jailed the Quakers and drove John Wesley into the streets. When it comes to religion, the crowds are always wrong. At any time there are a few who see, and the rest are blinded. To stand by the truth of God against the current religious vogue is always unpopular and may be downright dangerous....

Christianity's scramble for popularity today is an unconscious acknowledgment of spiritual decline. Her eager fawning at the feet of the world's great is a grief to the Holy Spirit and an embarrassment to the sons of God. The lick-spittle attitude of popular Christian leaders toward the world's celebrities would make such men as Elijah or George Fox sick to the stomach....

Lot was a popular believer. He sat in the gates of Sodom. But when trouble struck, he had to send quick for Abraham to get him out of the jam. And where did they find Abraham? Out on the hillside, far away from the fashionable crowds. It has always been so. For every Elijah there have always been 400 popular prophets of Baal. For every Noah there is always a vast multitude who will not believe it is going to rain.

We are sent to bless the world, but never are we told to compromise
with it.
The Next Chapter After the Last, 20-21.

"Lord, give me the spirit of Elijah; give me the faith of Noah. Deliver me from the scramble for popularity and strengthen me to serve alone, oblivious to the roar of the crowds. Amen."

Janet ~ Thank you for the Amish report.  I keep thinking about Amish country in northern Indiana that I drove through many times this summer.  Fascinating people.  So sad for their loss.

Pat ~ Praise God that Judy gets to come back home soon.  Do you know if she will be able to get around on her own or not.  When you see her, give her my love, please.

Well, I saw the bestest show yet last night....South Pacific!  ' A Cockeyed Optimist', 'Some Enchanted Evening', 'There's Nothing Like a Dame', 'Bali Ha'i', 'I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Out-a My Hair', 'Younger Than Springtime' and many other recognizable songs were sung.  And remember the scene where the men were dressed as women?  The guy that played the man with a coconut shell bra and grass skirt was hilarious and Nellie Forbush couldn't even sing part of her song for laughing.  A very enjoyable night, for sure.

Today is Red Hats Day.  I am to leave in 45 minutes.

Enjoy your time with the Red Hats, Etta Sue!

I can hardly believe it!  We're to get snow.

Good afternoon everyone. I have been busy so far today getting my house clean, packing and doing  a few other chores around the house in prep for my trip to Portland Friday. My neighbor came over and I showed her where everything is fr the dogs and gave her the spare keys to my house as she will be staying here with the dogs.

One thing I do not want to forget is my camera. I looked up the hotel where we will be staying and it seems to be on an island in the Columbia River. Wow I think I may get some awesome photos.

Hi everyone.  I was typing a reply early this morning before going to coffee and accidently hit some key (don't know which) and my tab in Firefox was gone but the browser was still open.  Don't know whether I can recreate it but will at least make some comments.

We had Bible study at the church this morning and it was led by our associate pastor as are pastor must have had the day off or had somewhere else he had to be.  We had an excellent study on the Unity in Christ.  We had the largest Wednesday morning group there that I have seen.  Pat then stayed for crafts and I and several of the men went over to Dunkin' Donut for coffee.  I came home and fed the cat and myself and then had a 1 pm appointment to get the oil changed in my Hyundai.  It was about 2:30 when I got home and I was really tired so took a nap.  Tonight is Wednesday evening Bible study and then choir practice.  This will be my first choir practice in three weeks so am looking forward to it.  Pat didn't want to go this evening so we won't have dinner at the church tonight.

Marilyn, thanks for the information on where you are going on your trip.  I had missed that information in the past.  I hope you have a great time.

Etta Sue, some months ago I saw a PBS presentation of South Pacific with Reba McEntire playing Nellie and they basically just said the lines and sang the songs but it was excellent.   I am sure your stage presentation was even better.

Pat, I see that the midwest is getting some pretty cold weather.  It is still about 80 degrees here today and we have the house open and the fans going.  We haven't had to use the AC much for several days although I expect Pat may turn it on before the evening is over.  Thanks for the devotional this morning.  That was quite a Thanksgiving dinner you had.  You must have taught your daughter to be a very good cook, as I am sure you are.

Janet, you are probably aware of the need to keep a close eye on the expiration dates on Nitro.  It stays good only about 6 months after it is exposed to air and the product itself has an expiration date.  Glad to hear that Beth is looking better.  I appreciate your and others comments on my new photo.  That old one was pretty washed out.

Carol, I am concerned that you may be sewing too fast if you have to install handles on your sewing table.  :)  Don't think I have ever heard of that before.

Guess I had better move on.  A special hi to all that I have not addressed individually today.

Janet

Good evening!  Darrel and I had an enjoyable day (or afternoon) in Garden.  We ate at the Lone Star Steakhouse, and they brought him a huge brownie with ice cream and chocolate syrup and sang a happy birthday song to him.  I was happy they put TWO spoons in the dessert!  ;)

I feel like it should have been my birthday, because we bought me a new TV.  We will put it in the bedroom and take the old one into my studio.

We have cantata practice at 6:30, and I am so sleepy, I think I'm going to try to get a little nap!  I swam a whole mile this morning!!  That's the first time I have done a mile. :fish:

Etta Sue, I love South Pacific!!  Also Oklahoma.......and several others I could mention but won't.

See you all later.

My day  went very differently than my plans.  My elderly friend has memory problems and I told her that we would go to church to work on quilting or something for her - instead, she had not had lunch at the home & wanted to go for "Italian".  Couldn't find a place close so I took her out for soup and sandwich.  She really wanted to go to her house but kept up a good & bright conversation when we were eating.  Now she wants me to come pick her up for lunch every day because she doesn't like the food there.  Oh, my - can't afford it and I just hope some others take time to visit her.

Larry:  Should have explained that the handles are for the drawers - this is the biggest sewing cabinet I have ever had - it has three deep drawers.  I don't know how to handle it. :D  It sounds like Pat is feeling alright now and able to get to craft sessions.  Glad to read that!

Off to Spirituality tonight.  We worked on a project for one of my groups - a women's group is gathering books for youngsters at the poorest school in town for Make a Difference Day.  I won't be able to read because of up & coming cataract surgery so Don made labels for about 75 books to be donated so each child could bring home their own book.

Pat;  That was very nice of you to drive Norm to his appointment.  Happy to read that Judy will be out of the hospital soon as well.   Have not seen anything from JudyB in such a long time - how is she faring these days?

Janet:  I guess they knew that they had better bring two spoons for that dessert!

Our lesson tonight is all about how we face chaos.

Interesting devotional, thanks Pat.  It sort of tied in with a Christian program that I later watched:

"Christianity's scramble for popularity today is an unconscious acknowledgment of spiritual decline."

I was rather shocked to hear that Queen Elizabeth, Head of the Church of England, is allowing a Muslim prayer room at Buckingham Palace.  Anyone else have a thought on the matter........ :o

Nice day here on the island and I must get out and take some pictures.  Have to go to Victoria tomorrow, so may take along my camera.  Then again, might not!  It gets heavy carrying stuff and I am going on the Coach Line Bus.

Read a cute little blurb....it is meant as a SMILE:

Every time I pass the church,
I stop for a short visit.
So when I'm carried in feet first,
God won't ask, "Who is it?"

                                           ;)

Time to go and see about getting my dinner started.  I also like your picture Larry.

Pleasant Day/Evening & God Bless.

Liz

I've been doing the same thing, Marilyn, except I'm leaving in the morning and will be going the opposite direction from you!  I'm driving down to Sacramento for a few daze and hopefully will be able to connect with some grandkids.  My highschool class is having another mini reunion in the Sacramento area and I figured I could make an appearance there and do some family stuff at the same time.

I'll be back sometime after the first of the week.  It all depends on whether my daughter can arrange a visit to California Monday.  Since I don't have any pressing need to hurry home I can extend my stay for a couple days if necessary.

Oh, yeah ... I'm taking a camera as well!   ;)

Larry, I noticed (and really liked) your new photo as soon as you posted but, true to form, didn't comment ... in fact, I haven't posted here for a while even though I read every day.   :-[

Y'all take care and I'll see if I can get to the library to access a computer over the weekend.
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Marilyn

I also will try to access a computer over the weekend from the hotel.
