Morning Devotional...

Failure and Success:
True Service

..not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart,
fearing God. And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and
not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward
of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.

-Colossians 3:22-24

Any serious-minded Christian may at some time find himself wondering whether the service he is giving to God is the best it could be. He may even have times of doubting, and fear that his toil is fruitless and his life empty....

The church has marked out certain work and approved it as service acceptable to God, and for the most part the church has been right.  But it should be kept in mind that it is not the kind or quantity of work that makes it true service-it is the quality.

Before the judgment seat of Christ, very little will be heard of numbers or size; moral quality is about all that will matter then....

It would be a shock to most of us to learn just what God thinks of our breathless activity, and a greater shock to many to find out the true quality of our service as God sees it. For not all religious activity is accepted of God, not even when it appears to produce results and get things done. The Lord seeth not as man seeth....

In Christian service motive is everything, for it is motive that gives to every moral act its final quality.
The Next Chapter After the Last, 69-70.

"Lord, I need that reminder: 'Before the judgment seat of Christ, very little will be heard of numbers or size; moral quality is about all that will matter then.' I'll serve today with that in mind. Amen."

Pat:  Thank you - this message is a good reminder of who we are working for afterall.

Larry:  My elder friend is having problems with dementia - it was an interesting time having lunch with her but she did like the soup - I make a lot of soups and have always brought some to her house and now she has a little refrigerator so I can still bring some frozen soup.  No, I can't possibly see her so often and am heartsick at how quickly her mind is going downhill.

Janet:  This is an 87-year-young lady whom I have known for ten years.  She is in the home more for dementia than any other thing - she is losing friends because of her problem and I remember how my mother lost all her friends as well when she couldn't keep up a conversation.

Jane:  Thinking of you and your daughter.

Here is a quote that means a lot to me:

QuoteThe essence of spirituality is contained in this phrase:  complete and utter abandonment to the will of God.

I'm NOT going on the trip to Portland. This cold has really taken hold Not only in my nose but my eyes, ears and throat as well. I had miserable night and I don't want to make everyone else in the car sick let alone the people at the conference. I will just have to wait until next time. God will take care of me here at home and show me all the things I must do to get well.

Please keep my friend Willa in your prayers, she is have some  more side effect from her last chemo treatment. Next comes the radiation every day for 6 months.

Good morning, All!  Friday, the 13th.  Thoughts of my parents today.  They were married Friday, January 13th so they celebrated every Friday, the 13th, and January 13th.  So many times of celebration.  But Dad was also killed in an auto accident on their 54th Wedding Anniversary.  Thank God, Mom remembered all the happy times instead of letting one sad time doctrine her thoughts on January 13.

I have already been out shopping.  I got a new winter coat which was much needed.  40% off so that helped the pocketbook.  Ivalou went with me.  She got a new outfit.

Then we stopped at Subway and we each brought home a sub for lunch.

This evening we are going up the road a mile and a half to Lapel High School to see their Fall Music Concert.  The Jr High School Band, the High School Band, Orchestra, Jr High School Chorus, High Schoo Chorus and the Swing Choir will be performing.  Ivalou and I used to go to all their programs but we haven't known anyone performing for a few years.  We still don't but we do like their programs so we are going this year!

Oh, it is deceiving out there.  Bright sunshine.  Windy.  But you step outside and you know it isn't summertime!  It is only 40°F right now and it has warmed up some!! Not ready for cold weather...nope, not ready!

We have been to our workout, done some business and are back home, almost time to go to Senior Center for lunch.  My 89 year old friend called and asked me to meet her there for lunch, and it's always a pleasure to visit with her.

Marilyn, sorry about your lousy cold, and that you cannot go on the trip as planned.  But I'm sure the others wouldn't want a cold, so you are being courteous by not going this time.  God probably has other plans for this time.

Carol, my Dad also had dementia.  That is the cruelest thing I know.  It steals the person away, leaving their body behind.  So sad.

We have sunny, brisk weather here in our corner of Kansas today, really nice.  Etta Sue, enjoy the school program tonight.  You sure don't have very far to go to see it!  Our high school musical is coming up soon, and I always enjoy those so much.

Time to go, see you later!

:coffee:
Good morning everyone!  My busy October-November is keeping me running! :tiredtread:
Yet I am making the most of my time off to recharge my batteries, by reading, taking a drive up in the mountains with Mrs. Soileau, and of course, long walks with Jazz.

It is Saturday morning as I type this, and two very busy days are ahead of me and I am excited!  God is GOOD, GOOD, GOOD!

Here's something from His Word (Colossians) that I was enjoying this morning over my mug o' coffee.

So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline.  Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you.  And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It's your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it.

In HIS Grip,
Kevin

Hi there, Sarah!  Good to have you pop in and tell us about your busy life.  Darrel had a trouble call in Boise City the other day, but I was headed for Wichita, so didn't go with him.  Wish I could have, though.

Kevin, sounds like you are doing well--thanks for the good words from the Good Book!  And God bless you as you continue serving in His grip!  No better place to be!

I have an appointment in an hour and my eyes are trying to close, so think I might grap a quick "power nap!"

Just a brief note this evening.  This was a very busy day as we have early morning coffee at the senior center and then I had to have an EKG done at Kaiser.  I then went to the big senior center and we had our Learning Center Volunteers meeting followed by lunch and then our PC User Group Meeting, which was on the new Vista MS Operating System.  I stopped at the library for a few minutes and then came home and took a nap.  Now trying to catch up on e-mail and messages and have a meeting to attend this evening.

Marilyn, sorry you won't be able to make your planned for trip but it sounds like you made the wise decision to take care of yourself and not expose others.

See you al tomorrow.

Just a quick note from me.  Finally I'm home again, after total hip replacement, this is the 4th hip replacement!  I hope no more!  My ol' bod can't take much more!

I appreciate Pat's helpfulness in taking Norm to Hamilton, both to visit me, and then taking him to his doctor apointment, in Hamilton as well.

I am going to try and get to church tomorrow.  Please pray that I will be able to go.  I really miss my church family.  Our own family, lives out of town.

I agree with Marilyn - SO good to see you back home.  And I'll second your motion to not have to have any more hip replacements.  GOD BLESS!!!

Hi Judy.  It sure was nice to see your photo appear with your posting.  You are becoming a pro at these hip replacements.  I am glad that you are home and hope that Norm is doing better as well.

It is pretty chilly here this morning and it got down into the high 30's last night and a friend said he had frost on his yard.  It is a glorious sunny and bright day today.  I guess it is a perfect day for fall football games.  It is homecoming at the University of Georgia so sure the traffic on the main road south of us will be very heavy this morning and then after the game.

Not much new here as things are pretty quiet around here.  Hope everyone has a nice weekend.

Good Morning I feel about 50% better than I did yesterday I sure slept a lot better last night than the night before actually able to breathe after taking some Comtrex Nighttime.

I got a call yesterday from one of the men at church about a meeting being called this morning for all the ushers, I feel well enough to go to the meeting as long as I don't get too close to anyone.

Lots of WET fog here this morning I may have to bring in more of the potted plants on my porch so they don't get too wet. I already brought in some but I really have no place to put them in the house.  I have thought about building a little hot house for them to keep them safe during the winter months.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend.

Good Morning, All!

I am all ready to leave for my Class luncheon.  It is at Cracker Barrel this time....everyone loves Cracker Barrel, right?

The musical was wonderful.  Lapel is a fairly small school and I am always amazed at the amount of boys in the choirs.  The swing choir had 20 girls and 20 boys...they always have an even amount of both sexes.  This group was just form this year and they sang about six songs with dance routines as well.  The only thing I could complain about is their sound system...it is terrible!

Lapel is building a new high schoo building and hopefully it will have a auditorium since Lapel has an awesome music department!

That's about it.  Again, it is bright and sunny but only 43°F!  This time of year you never know how to dress!!

Hi, Y'all!   :)  Another busy day for me.  I got up early, drove to Dodge City, attended a training meeting for my business (very good, learned a lot!)  then drove to Minneola, then to the tiny townshop of Bloom, where I spent the afternoon with my painting group.  We did a new technique, painting on/through a mesh screen, and the finished painting appears to be needlepoint.  It was fun.

JUDY MC.!!!  How wonderful to have you back!!  We have missed you!  Now you have more hips than you have legs!  ;) :D  How are you feeling?  I will pray that you are up to attending church tomorrow, that will lift your spirits!  Aren't you glad you have Pat as a friend?  Hope Norm is feeling well, too.

Darrel had supper ready when I got home, and I ate too fast and too much. :P  And I know better!  :-[

I am missing my Abby, haven't seen her since I stayed with her.  May just have to go there tomorrow afternoon.

Hi, everyone.

Judy, it's so good to see your face here. :)

We're still waiting for rain here.  Nothing today yet, but maybe tomorrow. :)
It's overcast and cool.  Sue and I were saying it's time to get the jig saw puzzles out and set up.  Oh, yes, and we need new flannel gowns or pjs, and lots of herb tea for comfort. :)  All the winter stuff, ya know. :)

My little Rocky is so much better today.  I came home from the store and he was at the window looking out at me.  When I saw that, I knew he was at a turn around point.  He ate some today too and is drinking lots of water.

edit:  Hi, Janet.  You posted while I was typing.

Blessings,  Nita

Hi Nita I am so glad to hear that Rocko is much better, I have been worried about him but knew he was getting good loving care from you.

I didn't go to that meeting for the ushers this morning, It is better for me to stay in and warm, it is only 50° outside, I did walk to the mailbox and took some cantaloupe to Mimi who lives behind me and got a few lettuce leaves from her garden.

I have been working more on my quilt today and am getting so close to the finished product. I will have to take a photograph when it is finished. I also did some PSP stationery.

I am not going to church tomorrow I'll watch David Jeremiah and Charles Stanly on TV.
