JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Morning Devotional...

Failure and Success:
Greatness Has Its Price

You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier.
--2 Timothy 2:3-4

The laws of success operate also in the higher field of the soul--spiritual greatness has its price. Eminence in the things of the Spirit demands a devotion to these things more complete than most of us are willing to give. But the law cannot be escaped. If we would be holy we know the way; the law of holy living is before us. The prophets of the Old Testament, the apostles of the New and, more than all, the sublime teachings of Christ are there to tell us how to succeed....

The amount of loafing practiced by the average Christian in spiritual things would ruin a concert pianist if he allowed himself to do the same thing in the field of music. The idle puttering around that we see in church circles would end the career of a big league pitcher in one week. No scientist could solve his exacting problem if he took as little interest in it as the rank and file of Christians take in the art of being holy. The nation whose soldiers were as soft and undisciplined as the soldiers of the churches would be conquered by the first enemy that attacked it. Triumphs are not won by men in easy chairs. Success is costly.
Dr. Tozer in...We Travel an Appointed Way, 26.

"This success may be costly, Lord, but surely nothing in the light of the eternal perspective we looked at yesterday. Give me a willingness this morning to pay any cost which You may exact in my service for You. Amen."

Pat:  Thank you for today's devotion.  Words so true about a lack of attention - there is a saying about "getting out of it, what you put into it" - whatever "it" may be and in this case it would be our relationship to Christ.

Janet:  The picture of you twosome is very sweet.

Etta Sue:  Glad that you had a good night's sleep.  I slept through until just before 7 A.M. & in the back of my mind knew that we were to get an early phone call from a flooring guy.

Sarah:  Enjoy your school day!  Sorry that you don't care for the snow!

Here, we only have an inch of snow although it snowed lightly all day yesterday.  The roads are clear and sun is shining - several feet of snow in the mountains and chains required yesterday.

Carol

Etta Sue

I have a sick kitty and I don't know which one it is.  How do you figure that out?  I have found presents from one of their mouths in about every room.  Cleans up easy but I can't catch which one is doing it.

Well, I slept too late this morning.  I have to leave in a couple of hours for Indiana University so I had better get a move on.

I'll be back later tonight to post the devotion for tomorrow.

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  Just back from a busy morning and eating a bite of lunch.  After coffee this morning I went to the Bible Study at the church that is lead by our minister.  Today we studied the Trinity and looked at several scriptures related thereto.  Following that 4 of the men, incluidng me, went over to the donut shop and visited for awhile.

We had a lot of fog around there this morning and it is still overcast but pretty warm (73 degrees).  Tonight is choir practice.

Pat, thanks for the devotional.

Sarah, please keep the snow out your way.

Etta Sue, hope you have a good trip to the University area.  Sorry about your sick kitty and sure you would have preferred not having to leave them there alone.

Carol, the mountains are so pretty with the snow on them.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Nita

Oh, Etta Sue...I'm sorry one of your kitties are sick.   It seems there are lots of sick pets these days.  I wonder why?  I worried that my dogs had eaten something to make them sick, but I still don't know what it was.  They're both ok again now.  I hope your kitty gets well soon.

Blessings on this beautiful once in a life time day! Wednesday, October 18, 2006.  There'll never be another.  In fact, there'll never be another 10:41, Wednesday, October 18, 2006!  Wow!   I'm so blessed to be sitting right smack dab in the middle of it.  Nita

Janet

Good thought, Nita!  And we can never get even one minute of our lives back, once it has passed.  So we need to live productively and happily all the days we have.  :)

Thanks, Carol.  I hadn't seen that picture of Darrel and me until Pat posted it here.  We had such a good time on that visit, and I was delighted to finally meet Pat.  And Ruthie, too!

Etta Sue, it must be hard not knowing which kitty is sick.  I hope there aren't a lot more presents from her when you get home.  :P

Busy day, again.  (What else is new?)  And tonight is cantata practice (yes, Larry, our Christmas one) and church.  And some calls I need to do after church..........whew!  If I meet me coming back, I hope I know me and can steer me in the proper direction!  ;)

Tomorrow I will be taking Beth back to the dentist, and picking Abby up for the weekend.  She needs some Grandma time.  And Grams needs some Abby time, too.  I have a scrapbooking thing all day on Saturday, and plan to let Abby make a scrapbook of her own.  If she doesn't enjoy it, we can always leave.  It is here in town, at the library.

Gotta run, have an order to unpack and put in the shelves!

Good Afternoon everyone. Thank You all for being here and thank you for the devotional. It's a good place to end the day too, especially when it's been a hard one at work. All I have to do is read the devotional and read what everyone has written and God just lifts me back up.

Thank you Lord!
Everyone have a blessed and peaceful evening!

Good devotional Pat
QuoteThe amount of loafing practiced by the average Christian in spiritual things...
If Christans would put as much effort in getting to church on time as they do in the regular job they would be a lot better off. It really bugs me as the greeter to see the same people consistently come in ½hr to 45 minues late every meeting. Most times part way though the sermon and one lady even came 15 mnutes before church was over. I usually smile and greet them like everyone else nd tell them so glad to see you today.

A quote I've read several times says:  Have you ever noticed that the people who are late are always jollier than those who have to wait on them?  So true.

I cannot imagine coming to church 30, 45 or more minutes late!! :o

I have been "thinking" about coming in here all day and here it is almost over for many of y'all.  Sorry.   :-[

My turn to donate blood today and, for some strange reason, I was "drained" when I got back home.  I sat down for just a minute and the next thing I knew it was two hours later!   :-\

I never was able to connect with my two granddaughters while in Sacramento but did manage to have short visits with their brothers and their families and Bryan was really excited to spend all day Sunday hanging out with grandma.  That was a tricky one because he had no phone so we did a lot of detective work and finally found each other!

He had put on his new suit and was all dressed up but we couldn't get together until nearly midnight on Saturday!  We visited a while at a restaurant near my motel and then I got directions to where he is staying and went over to get him Sunday morning.  We went to the church where Dave and his family attend and then over to their house and eventually out to do a bit of shopping before hitting another restaurant and BlockBuster's (so he could rent a movie) and I took him home Sunday night!

He has lost weight and changed his "look" and, with his new suit, wanted to let his mother (Joy is still in Mexico) see him.  We did get the photos made and sent so now she can see her handsome son fer shur!

Saturday my eldest grandson was involved with soccer games all morning and then had to do some traffic control in the afternoon so I just went and hung out at the soccer games all morning.  At least I got to see his two boys and visit with the one not playing at each game.  Tim was ref at his youngest son's game and then had to ref the game that followed as well.  His other son didn't play until noon (at another field just behind there) and his grandpa was ref at that game so I got a chance to visit a bit with Tim there.

These young'uns keep busy and seem to always have something or someone demanding their attention.  I guess they don't get bored that way but I sure did enjoy the deep breath and cup of coffee when I made it home to collapse relax all by myself!   Aaaahhhh.

It was interesting to see all those "OLD" people at my class reunion!  We are the same age but life has really been hard on them!  One who is webmaster for our class website said to me: "You look so much younger than the rest of us."  Well ... I don't know what to say except "Thank you Father" ... it is His Life in me and His design.

Well ... I've already been knocked off line for talking so long, so I'd best get this posted and take a (nother) break!   Thanks, everyone, for the welcome back.  It's good to be here with all y'all.   ;)
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Jane it sounds like your trip was a lot nicer than mine since I got sick and couldn't go to Portland.

Nita is is good to hear that both your "boys" are now all well and have had their baths. (On another website)

I did some Christmas shopping yesterday while Jan and I were  at Target and at Michael's Crafts, where I bought some beautiful Pewter picture frames or 50% off. Then we took the old highway home from Eureka, (the back road) that was sure a nice enjoyable relaxing ride home. It is also a fun drive  curving around at the base of the hills.

Etta Sue I sure ope you have found out by now which of the "girls" is sick.

Thanks for a nice devotional, Pat.

Typical fall weather here today.....showers and chilly.  Went to town with Wendy and saw my doctor, then we got a few clothes for Amanda.  She is really stressed with college and thought it would cheer her.  Then went for coffee, Wendy had her physio treatment, then the car got it's oil changed and checkup....nothing very exciting!

Sorry about your cat(s) Etta Sue.  Squeek did that, then Misty did the same, so we took them off of their small treat of Fancy Feast.  Gave them that only as a little extra as they enjoyed it.  Back to straight dry cat food, real good quality stuff.  They are fine now.  So hope all is well with your girls.

Nice chatty post and I enjoyed it much, Jane!  Love to hear about trips and family stuff.  Glad that you had a nice visit with Bryan, often wonder how things are going for him.

Janet, are you ever going to post about your China trip?  Could do it as a small continued story, a little each time?????  I would love to read about it....

Here is a small smile:

Church Bulletin Bloopers:
"For those of you who have children and don't know it, we have a nursery downstairs."

"The outreach committee has enlisted 25 visitors to make calls on people who are not afflicted with any church."

"The audience is asked to remain seated until the end of the recession."

"Low Self-Esteem Support Group will meet Thursday at 7 to 8:30 p.m. Please use the back door."

"Anointing of the sick ... If you are going to be hospitalized for an operation, contact the pastor. Special prayer also for those who are seriously sick by request."

"The third verse of Blessed Assurance will be sung without musical accomplishment."

The sermon title this morning: WOMEN IN THE CHURCH

The closing song: RISE UP, O MEN OF GOD

The sermon this morning: GOSSIP ... THE SPEAKING OF EVIL

The closing song: I LOVE TO TELL THE STORY

The sermon this morning: CONTEMPORARY ISSUES # 3 ... EUTHANASIA

The closing song: TAKE MY LIFE

                                                           :) ;)

Pleasant Evening/Day and God Bless.
