Morning Devotional...

Failure and Success:
Status Symbols

Then I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands, and in the midst of the seven lampstands One like the Son of Man....
--Revelation 1:12-13

In our time we have all kinds of status symbols in the Christian church--membership, attendance, pastoral staff, missionary offerings.  But there is only one status symbol that should make a Christian congregation genuinely glad. That is to know that our Lord is present, walking in our midst!...

No matter the size of the assembly or its other attributes, our Lord wants it to be known by His presence in the midst. I would rather have His presence in the church than anything else in all the wide world.

Hearing the proud manner in which some speak of the high dollar cost of their sanctuaries must lead people to suppose that spirituality can be purchased. But the secret of true spiritual worship is to discern and know the presence of the living Christ in our midst....

The Christian church dares not settle for anything less than the illumination of the Holy Spirit and the presence of our divine Prophet, Priest and King in our midst. Let us never be led into the mistake that so many are making--sighing and saying, 'Oh, if we only had bigger, wiser men in our pulpits! Oh, if we only had more important men in places of Christian leadership!'
Dr. Tozer in Jesus Is Victor!, 59-60,63.

"Lord, I pray that I might never deviate from that significant thought: 'I would rather have His presence in the church than anything else in all the wide world.' May that be my prayer this morning. Amen."

Yes!  His Presence and the assurance of His love and forgiveness - with these we can afford to be eternally content!

QuoteI would rather have His presence in the church than anything else in all the wide world.' May that be my prayer this morning. Amen."

Wonderful message and something to contemplate upon entering church.  We have services on both Saturdays and Sundays and the reason we started to go to Sat night is mostly because Don could not hear anything on Sunday mornings with all the children - it would echo & hurt his ears & hearing aid just amplifies the sounds so it is much more peaceful on Sat night - a real resting place.  We also go Wednesday nights and that is different - more of a family night for eating and then small meetings of our group of up to 45 at most.

Janet & Larry:  Thanks, my eye is better every day.

Quilting at the Methodist church in Loveland today & this is such a nice gathering.  We work on our own projects except once per year and contribute to the church for using their basement.

Nita:  Good luck in working on your health!

Janet:  I am so happy for your news on Darrel -

Janet ~ I am happy hearing that Darrell has a pinched nerve.  Lots better than heart problems.

Carol ~ And I am happy that your eye is better.  You have to have your eyes to quilt, right?

Marilyn ~ I think I know what a tent garage is but not sure.  I hope you take a picture when it is all set up so you can show us!

My garage is detached from the house.  So there isn't any heat at all during the winter.  But it still keeps frost from forming on the windows.  It is a pole barn type garage.  Not weather-proof at all.  Wood structure with metal walls and roof...no insulation.  In fact, if it is snowing and windy as the same time, I get snow inside.  Looks weird to open the garage doors and see some snow.  Not piles of snow but a skimming of snow.  An advantage of a garage is no frost on the car.  A disadvantage of a garage is no nature washing of the car.

It is so dark today.  It rained in the night and still looks like rain outside now.  Almost all my leaves are off the trees and on the ground, in my rocks, on my deck.  But it is too wet to mow/mulch them yet.  It is warmer...in the 40's.  I am thinking of going to Dollar General for a few items.  Then I can get my maps and GPS from the car for an outing with Kitty tomorrow.

Good Morning. I'm sitting here listening to Pastor Danny's message on tithing that I miss when I was sick two Sunday's ago. I asked him for the CD and he gave it to me on Wednesday night.

Our Women's Ministry Bible studies are going to be Leadership Training so that we can go forward and train others, IE the children, the youth, other women, etc. We are going to do an intense study of the four gospels, memorizing scripture etc.  We are gong to pray using scripture quoting the address and making it personal.

For Example: " I pray that I would love you Lord God with all my heart, that  would love you Lord God with all my mind, that I would love you  Lord God with all my strength, according to  Mark 12:30-31"

Another one when you begin to read your Bible or when the preacher reads the Bible is "Lord Open my mind so I may understand the scriptures according to Luke 24:45"
"Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law according to Psalm 119:18

I am  praying those scriptures everyday now and the Lord is opening my eyes and I am getting more out of the scriptures than ever before, I am also still reading my Bible out loud which is how I have always read it because  we need to be "hearers of the word"

Can you tell how excited I am?

How are all of you today?  I am having a tough time.  Yesterday, I coughed, and something happened in my low back, and now I can barely get around!  Ouch!!  I have no patience with not feeling my best.  We tried to get into the chiropractor for both of us, but he seems to be out of the office today.  Darrel rubbed some Biofreeze on it, hope that helps.

We had TORNADOS last night!!!  :o  One touched down right in the middle of town, taking the roof off the middle part of the hospital!!  When the all-clear sounded, Beth called to see if we were all right.  She said they had all 66 residents of the Care Home in the central hallway, and that it got pretty hot.  We drove into town to look at the damage to the hospital this morning, and they had already begun cleaning up.  I took a couple pictures, will try to post them later.  The damage was right over the patient rooms, and I wondered if any patients were there at the time.  They probably took them to the basement.

Thanks to all of you for your kind words about Darrel.  I know WE are rejoicing that it wasn't his heart!  He said "I didn't want to be invaded again."  :)

Sorry about that pinched nerve, Janet.  I pray the chiro will be able to get unpinched again.
Looks like an adequate garage, Marilyn.  I'd like one of those, along with a covered way from it into the mobilhome.  But I'm for sure glad that we don't get any snow here in the winter.  I had enough of that stuff up in the mountains for three years!  Right now it's clear and sunny here.  Kind of cold this morning, though.

Marilyn, that looks like a great protection for your car.  Are they very expensive?

I agree, Al.  One of the tent garages, and a tent walkway to the tent garage.  Why get wet if we don't have to? :)  I have an attached garage, but don't use it.  I USE it, just not for my car.  Silly, huh?  I keep the doors closed so the dogs can go out and into the back yard without having worry that they'll head out the garage door.  A trade off I decided on when they were puppies.  Now, if we get some really, really cold weather, we might compromise. :)

Janet, I've never been in a tornado.  It sounds scarey. I wonder if Beth and the other residents were frightened.  Do you ever get used to tornado warnings?   I'll take rain, thank you, and more rain.  They say we might fall off into the sea someday, but till then we don't worry about tornadoes. haha

Another coolish, but sunshiny day here too, Al. I think I'll have to order oil soon.  My stove is being turned up a little on a daily basis.  I like this time of year.  Nita

That's a neat garage, Marilyn.

Take care with your back, Janet. I'm thankful y'all weren't damaged by the tornado. Yes, storms are very scary when a person is disabled - lots of things for the staff to think about in situations like that.

Y'all have a good evening.

Ruth Ann and Nita--I wasn't at all scared last night, and Beth said she wasn't, either, just that the hallway got really hot with 66 people in it.  Well, that was just the residents, so more, with staff.  They had nine patients in the hospital, who were all moved to the basement for the duration of the storms.  There were 24 tornados in Kansas last evening!  :o :o

My back is a bit better, but I think it may stiffen up again overnight.  :(

See you tomorrow.

It has finally stopped raining.  I asked Ivalou if she would like to go to Pizza King for lunch yesterday.  Yes.  But when I went out to the garage, my car wouldn't start.  Dead.  So she drove.  Then when we got back I couldn't figure out how to get the hood up.  I called Kaye Don and he came over with a battery jumper.  Before he got here I had the hood up.  The battery jumper is neat.  A box with a carrying handle.  You put the jumper cables on the battery and plug the box into electric.  He turns it on and I started the car!  Then we put my battery charger on it.  Later I drove to Greenfield and back to make sure it was charged.  I don't know why it was dead.  Probably the dome light was still on when I turned it on to check my mailbox after dark and in the car.

Today Kitty and I are going to Bedford, Indiana.  She has an aunt that will be celebrating her 91st birthday.  Hopefully the sun will come out for some great pictures in the south.  And the wind is suppose to be gusts of 45 mph.  I have no idea when we will be back.

And don't forget to change your clocks tonight.  This will be Indiana's first time in the fall for a very long time!!

Saturday morning here and we have to go to Home Depot.  Will probably go to tonight's service.  We watched the exciting end of the World's Series baseball and glad that St. Louis won.  The people were so excited and what a sea of red color.  Baseball isn't big here because the Rockies are pitiful.

Marilyn:  I see what you mean about making prayer personal.  Nice garage.

I must be one of the crazy ones but still love to see the snow and fresh landscape but certainly not damage to trees and people first of all.  If only people knew how to drive.

Etta Sue:  Surprised to read that your state is going with the flow of dayllight savings.  Yes, one eye is better but am a little off like the doctor said until I get the other lens & that won't be until mid-December.  Am so thankful that the first one went so well.

It's nice to read all of your posts.

Sorry about your back, Janet.  Not nice at all.  What a close call for Beth!

Hi everyone.  We have a crisp and windy but sunny day here in Georgia after a full day of rain yesterday.  We had as much as 4 inches of rain yesterday.  The trees are very pretty this year, especially along one of the roadways.

Our daughter is spending the weekend with us and she and Pat spent the morning shopping, including going to Walmart.  Apparently Paula Dean, from the Food Channel, was there to sign a new book she has and they said it was a mob scene.

Janet, sure sorry to read about your new back problem and I hope it is better today.  Glad that no one was hurt in the tornado in your town.  These drastic changes in weather can certainly create these storm situations.  Glad that Beth was fine.

Marilyn, I like your new garage and sure you will appreciate having your car protected.  It sounds like you got a very good buy as well.

Carol, we have some friends who are very hard of hearing and they often comment that they have heard very little of a sermon or what ever else is being said.  It is nice you have an alternative service that is quieter.

Etta Sue, it is always frustrating when you turn the key and nothing happens.  I had that happen a few months ago after having driven the car shortly before and the battery was only 2 years old.  It developed some type of critical problem and I had to replace the battery.

Sarah, it sounds like you faired better weatherwise than in Janet's area.  At least the snow usually doesn't do the damage of a tornado.

Ruth Ann, nice to see you posting.  Sick computers are never any fun but hope it isn't anything too serious.

Nita, I appreciate your sharing the information on the Sabbath.

Pat, thanks for the devotional for this weekend.  It sounds like the weather we had yesterday is now up your way.

A special hi to everyone posting.

Time for a nap.

Hello!  I got up early this morning and drove to Dodge City for a Reliv meeting.  Darrel is feeling awful--dumb old cold, hit him really hard.  So he stayed home where it is warm.  It warmed up to the 70s today, and they say it will for the next few days, but cold to return on Tuesday.

Sarah---SNOW?!?!?!?!?!   :o Yikes!!  I'm not quite ready for the white stuff yet.  You sure do stay busy, girl.  Slow down and take a deep breath once in a while!

Larry, our church also has those amplifiers people can use, not sure if they also magnify the noise; if so that wouldn't be very helpful.

After church tomorrow there will be a dinner for Pastor Appreciation Month.  So Janet needs to go scout the cabinets and see what she can contribute to it.   :-\

Pat, sorry it's so cold up your way.  Ol' Winter keeps coming around on a pretty regular schedule, doesn't it?

Carol, I imagine it is pretty disconcerting having one "good" eye and one not so good.  ;)

Janet we are also having a potluck after church for Pastor Appreciation month. I think I am going to make  Spanish Rice or something else.

Not much happening around here today, I colored my hair early this morning, finished cleaning my house took the dogs for a walk, cuting a pattern on a scarf of the fleece fabric. I have read soe interesting stuff  in links that some friends sent to me.

I have most of my Christmas shopping done, just need to get a couple of items for Gilbert's in-laws and Sarah's sister and her in-laws. Nice to have it done so early I have never done that before.

Darrel is feeling some better, not enough to go to church.  He said he didn't want to share that with anyone.

We had really good Sunday School and Church services, a nice dinner, and will not have services tonight.  I brought a plate of food to both Beth and Darrel---there was a ton of stuff left! ::)

I just want to say to everyone that if you see a chance to encourage someone this week, please do it.  We never know when just a few words of encouragement, a hug, a pat on the shoulder may help someone past a really difficult time.  I pray for God to use me in whatever way He sees fit to encourage someone every day.

I might take a short nap (had trouble sleeping last night) then have lots to do.  Not work really, just "stuff."  See you later!

Kevin, hope you and Jazz had a great afternoon and got some great pictures!

Hi Janet!  I agree that we should try to encourage someone this week.  Our brother may be coming home from the hospital on Tuesday.  He will need lots of encouragement in the coming days after his surgery for his bladder removal.

We are home from church.  Boy our pastor is on a roll.  Last week was a sermon about the Blood of Christ, this week was about us being the salt, and we are not just the salt we are going to church to be filled then the church sends us out as filled salt shakers to shake the salt out on the world.  Can you imgine the impact if all Christians were to go and shake the salt out on the world, what would happen?  That is a WOW thought.

Melaura was at a youth weekend, called "Aquire the Fire" and she caught the fire. I praise God for what He does in the lives of our youth.

I must go, I have supper to start.  So Bye for now

Well Howdy I am sure glad the we are back up and running.  I sure messed up . I set my clocks ahead an hour last night instead of back one hour. So I got up at 4:30 thinking it was 6:30 and started cooking for our potluck today. While it was cooking sat down to pray and turned on my cell phone to check the time and it was 5:19, imagine my surprise. I tried to reset my cell phone and couldn't do it because it is digital and automatic so I turned on my computer and there it was 5:21AM. Then I reset all my clocks.

I didn't sleep too good laxst night either Janet. My friend Kitty called me for prayer and I had that on my mind and could go to sleep.

Hi everyone.  This has been a very busy day but I will spare you the details.  However, after church this morning we had a bite to eat and then we went to the new library that opened in our town yesterday.  It is magnificient and such a wonderful addition to our community.  All of the items in the library are new.  We have been anticipating the new library for the 10 plus years we have lived here.

We had a nice weekend with our daughter and she attended church with us again this morning.

Think I will sign off for tonight.  I won't be as tired tomorrow but didn't have a chance to rest this afternoon as I usually do.

Good evening, all.

Marilyn, I wanted to laugh at you...silly woman...sitting your clocks forward when you KNEW it is FALL back in the Fall.  'cept that I did exactly the same thing.  I don't know why....but I did.  I was surprised when I came out of my bedroom and looked at the other clocks (the ones Sue had set correctly).  So I guess I'll laugh at both of us. lol

It's not 6:30 and dark already.  I hope I can make it to watch Extreme Makover Home Edition.  I feel really sleepy.

Sue and I went to Chinese dinner after church.  It was nice.  I seldom eat out, so it was a treat.

Tomorrow Sue begins working as a live in caregiver for the couple she's with now.  She'll be there 4 days a week instead of coming home every night.  It'll be better for the couple, but also better for her as she won't have to be driving in the dark, and in the rain when it starts.  They live in another town, only about 20-30 minutes drive, but she has a hard time seeing at night...same as me.  With the rain added, it's better not to drive.

I'm ready to fix a nice cup of tea and snuggle down in my recliner with Ty and Rocko. :)  This, and early morning 'family time' are their best times.  I don't know what I'd do if they were any bigger.

G'night.  I'll see you tomorrow, the Lord willing.  Nita

Love the picture of Ruthie, Janet and Pat!

We had to meet a fellow at Home Depot at 5 & missed the last few minutes of the Broncos ' they lost by a last minute field goal.  They scored 30 points and lost.  Whew - I really don't like to get too involved in these games because it is too exciting.

Larry:  Don has trouble hearing on Sunday mornings with all the children and if he wears his hearing aids, the noise is just magnified.  Nothing perfect has yet been invented and these were pricey hearing aids.  He can't wear them in the car because of the constant road noise either.  It is really a difficult thing to deal with - for both of us  ::)  How nice for you to have your daughter visit all weekend.  Visiting with our children is our favorite time.

Janet:  Yes, I have to really concentrate on things, taking glasses off and on, getting huge glare from headlights - it isn't easy now and I hope this eases in future.  Getting headaches and tiring and I know it is from the different vision.  It'll be better.

JudyB:  Great to read your posts and your descriptions of how you love your sermons.  It is so nice   to know someone getting so much out of their church.

Pat:  Please keep warm - it made me shiver when you wrote about your chilly day.  Glad that the CP got back on so quickly - thanks to Ian!!!!

A blood draw in the morning and to the gym to exercise then meeting friends for coffee.

Carol

Nita:  Good night - I have some banana pecan bread freshly baked this afternoon - nice with your tea.

Howdy all,  could you send up a prayer for Terry, my husband.  He is really depressed about his relationship with Jesus, and how he perceives it.  I've done all I know to do. (Pray!)  Thanks! <3

Oh, I made banana bread today, and I'll share!
