Paul planted the gospel seed. Apollos watered the new believers by teaching the Word.
Water is a picture of the Word of God (Eph. 5:26). Christ gives the living water (Jn. 4:10) that out of the believer may flow rivers of living water (Jn. 7:38-39).
Today we need people like Apollos who will water God's people with His Word.
Even a cup of cold water will not be forgotten (Mt. 10:42).

A very interesting devotional. Reminds me of the occasion when a lady in our church and I painted three scenes on the left wall of another church Vivian and I used to attend. It was of a farmer holding a young tree in his hand with his daughter looking on. The soil had been prepared and he was about to place it in the ground. Scene two was of the same tree a few short years later with rain clouds approaching, but no fruit as yet. Scene three showed the tree as an adult and ready to give fruit. I made over a hundred apples and painted them red. Each time a person professed Christ as their Savior the pastor would write their name on the apple and hung it on the tree. Before the year was over the pastor asked me to make more apples.
A Revelation from the Holy Spirit to all who would believe......
John 1:1.... In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2....He was in the beginning with God.
3....All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
4....In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
5....And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
I remember those "dark" days, and only a holy and merciful God would reach down into that darkness to call His own. My eyes and ears were opened to Him, and I praise God that I heard His call. He's forgotten and forgiven. I haven't forgotten, but I know I've been forgiven.

One night a man has a dream.
He dreamt he was walking along a beach with the Lord

For each scene he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand:
one belonging to him and the others to the Lord.
When the last scene of his life flashed before him,
he looked back at the footprints in the sand.
He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints.
He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and
saddest time in his life.
This really bothered him and he questioned the Lord

I thought how amazing that Jesus had to be tired and thirsty Himself to stop beside the well to rest. Such perfect timing!....Along came a despised Samaritan Woman, an outcast, a fallen woman! JESUS offered her "Living Water"
"The Water I give becomes a PERPETUAL SPRING within them, watering them forever with ETERNAL LIFE"....John 4:13.
We do take water for granted. Inside my water bill details each year there is a leaflet for Water Aid. To send donations for wells to be dug in dry countries. That is a nudge to me as Christmas approaches.

Well folks, I hope and pray that my feeble efforts this morning will be like a cup of cold water to some needy soul here today.
'Go, borrow the vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.'
2 Kings 4:3
The autumn colours are glorious this week. Fine dry and sunny weather which we have all enjoyed. This morning, a heavy mist covered the ground and blocked my view of the airport. The golden early morning sunrise made the mist look like a huge layer of yellow cotton wool.
The covering of the mist reminded me of the covering of the blood of Jesus. The Mercy Seat covered with the blood of the sacrifice, covering the broken tables of the law. The freshness of the cold morning air reminded me of the newness of the Gospel and that God's mercies are new every morning.
I split my reading today between Genesis and 2 Kings. The words that struck me in my first reading were the following:- 'The Lord made all that he (Joseph) did to prosper in his hand.' (Genesis 39 Verse 3).
Even before I got out of my bed this morning I though of Joseph in prison. I had not quite reached that chapter in my reading yet I thought of the comparisons between Joseph and Jesus. Thoughts came to mind that I had not entertained before.
Was the first 30 years in the life of Jesus a 'sort' of spiritual prison for Him? He was after all holy, without spot or blemish, God in the flesh! He was daily walking among men, profane men.
Men who swore, stole, fought and cursed the name of God. How often have you or I winced when others have taken our Lord's name in vain? If we are affected in such a way, then what of God in the flesh? It is just something to think about.
Reading in 2 Kings I was struck by these words, 'borrow not a few' (2 Kings 4 Verse 3).
It is a lovely story about a widow woman whose name is kept secret, yet whose sore trial is recorded for all to see. I am sure that she thought of herself as being very insignificant, yet in the Lord's eyes she is precious.
The death of her husband had left her in financial ruin with creditors on her doorstep. Her heart must have been aching, both with her loss and now the headache of debt. Many families in the year 2003 find themselves in similar situations. Ill health, redundancy or death can land many honest families in severe hardship.
The outlook was bleak for this poor woman. Not only losing her husband but she was also facing up to losing both her sons as well. What kind of God would allow something like this to happen to one of His children?
The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob reigns supreme and He governs all His creatures and all their actions. He allows certain things to befall us; yet each trial is a blessing in disguise when viewed from afar. The Psalmist could say that it was good for him to be afflicted. Many others can echo that same sentiment.
The woman was herself an empty vessel. She had been drained of all that was dear to her. It was not until the pitchers were broken that the light shone forth! We have also to be broken from time to time, otherwise we become so comfortable in our surroundings that we forget that God even exists.
It is just one of the curses of this day and age. We are so comfortable that we have no real need of God, we can manage well enough without Him.
Nothing happens by chance, absolutely nothing! The words that I read this morning encouraged me to expect. Expect what?
Revival.
Are we as a people being prepared for such? Will the Lord continue to take from His church on earth without replacing them? Many in the last couple of months have 'gone home' from this small island alone.
We are in desperate need of revival. We need revival in our souls as individuals and as a church collectively. Each day I am sickened by what 'churches' are debating. Debates that try to justify and legalise sin! If we were in our proper place, then there would be no need for such debates!
This morning my prayer is for revival. I pray that resurrected power would cover our land as surely as the mist does this morning. Blanket our needy souls with fresh heavenly dew that we might reflect gold as ones that have been tried long in the fire.
Lord if you are sending revival please may it start in my home and with my loved ones!
We are surrounded by helpless 'empty vessels.' Loved ones, relatives, friends, neighbours and even enemies that are heading for a lost eternity, drowning in sin and without God and hope in this world. They need to be saved!
I thought of those people who have attended the Lord's House week after week for years sometimes even decades and still they have not yet heard the Good News.
They may be expecting an invitation to the Wedding Feast and they no doubt think that they are deserving of a place. After all the are no worse than those who call themselves Christians!
There are those who say quite openly and honestly. When I die, God will not turn me away from Heaven. He is a God of love!
To such I say, read God's Word!
Not only did the Lord fill the vessels within her own four walls, He also filled all the vessels that were brought to her and still there was more. Our God cannot be exhausted. He loves to give, He loves to fill the empty places and He loves to display His awesome power to His children, sometimes when they least expect it!
Is your soul empty and needing of filling today? Open your mouth wide and I shall fill it says His Word.
Sin is our biggest stumbling block. It is a barrier between us and our God even when God Himself has taken it down!
We must always remember that the way of salvation is God's chosen way. We did not make it up neither have we followed cunningly devised fables. It is the Truth. The blood of Jesus Christ, God's Son cleanses us from ALL sin.
Even the sinfulness of our sin is no match for the blood!
'Be ye filled with the Spirit!' If you are feeling empty and barren today my friend, ask God to fill you. If you are filled ask Him to keep on filling you. No matter what we are prepared to ask God for, we can be sure that yet there is room.
'Borrow not a few!' Ask what you will and I will do it. Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you. Put God to the test today.
At the beginning of the week I read about the cloud the size of a man's hand, this morning I witnessed oil poured forth in abundance. I am excited by what may happen next!

I missed yesterday completely having work, meeting, volunteering and then home where I ate supper (what we call it in the South). I read some of the papers and came on to bed. My e-mail is piling up. Today at work I will keep in mind the Chapter 11...'Becoming Best Friends with God"..talking to HIm througout the day and then praising HIM with songs & Bible verses. (well, not out loud at work..but inside my heart)

I am trying to complete this study on my own and I miss the Christian fellowship of sharing. Here is a good place to be among other Christians. I wish I was close to Etta Sue to study with them.

Pat, that devotional was a good reminder to us to water the seeds. But it also encourages others who are the planters. They may never see the fruit of their labour until we go Home. It must be discouraging at times to plant all these seeds, and maybe not see any, or at least much, of the fruit. But God knows.
Lee-what a clever idea. And another source of encouragement to see how God moved and worked in that church. It must have been a blessing to your heart too, to see such results!
Kathy-I didn't get the chance to post here yesterday at all either, though I did come in and read some of them. But busy is good, it keeps us out of trouble, right? ;)
Well, I have an interview this morning for a second part-time job. I would appreciate prayer for it, that all goes well. Planning for a wedding, I need the extra money, as well as I'd like to help my parents out as long as I'm here.

Hi everyone. Have just read all of the postings and found the devotional thoughts very meaningful this morning. Last evening I read several chapters of a new book out called "Persecution" by David Limbaught dealing with what is happening to our religious freedom in American and how our schools have been taken over by the human securalists. About anything is being tolerated and sometimes taught in our public schools except anything dealing with God and Christianity. Iain, I certainly agree with your comment this morning about the need for revival. I believe you parents who are home schooling are certainly doing the right thing.
I was also thinking of how seldom we hear preached in our church sermons that are full of the Bible and how refreshing such sermons are when we do occasionally get them. Guess I had better get off my soapbox this morning.
I had an enjoyable hour at the men's coffee this morning at the local Senior Center. Everyone seemed to be quite relaxed and not anxious to leave this morning. We have a great group of men who meet on Fridays. This afternoon is our SeniorNet Learning Center Computer User's Group, which is open to the community. Today we have a speaker on computer security, who is retired from the Secret Service and was responsible for computer security in the White House, the Congress and the Supreme Court. His resume is truly impressive and I am really looking forward to the presentation. There will also be a county policemen there to talk on computer fraud in our county.
Jen, hope your job interview goes very well. I hadn't realized until a couple of days ago that you were now working part-time and was glad to read that.

Good Morning, Thank you Pat, Iain and Lee for the thoughtful devotions this morning. It is so nice to come here each morning read the devotionals and have something to think about all during the day.
Yesterday was a long day, I was 8 hours at Bea's house, only because her son was trying to fix the window on my car. Then he called me to come back over and we went to Sacred Grounds and had a milk shake and he thanked me for all the things I do for his mother. Got back home at 8:15 to find a message on my answering machine from Gilbert wanting to know where I was. So I called him told him thank you for checking up on me.
He was asking me all kinds of questions about Bea's son so I had to reassure him there is nothing to worry about. I remember when he asked AL "why are you being so nice to my mother'?

Last night while praying before we ate our meal, my little Lila Mae bowed her head and folded her hands together. It was very precious.
I remember everyone of my kids first time doing this. It amazes me how much they learn from our actions. It reminds me to always keep a good attitude about things.
One time I took my son (Troy) to a pizza party that his soccer coach was giving because of winning 1st. I happened to look at him at the same time he had bowed his head and said a silent prayer while the other kids were digging in. At that moment I knew I had done at least one thing right.
My kids are by no means perfect. In fact they got in trouble last night. They were a half hour late at getting home. Grrrr...they will be paying today by cleaning and do some extra chores.
Welp, I must be off. Sorry to bug you about my family life.

I have a few things I must get done before tomorrow's hike.
Did I tell you? Tomorrow is the "Jack Scott Memorial Hike" here in Guelph. It's not put on by me. I have nothing to do with the planning of this but the Guelph Hiking Trail decides to do this each year. It's been each year so far and I expect that it won't be every year as people forget just who Jack was. It's an easy hike tomorrow on a flat disused railway line so I hope that many turn out.
Iain, what a great thought today. I so enjoy hearing from you. I pray daily for you and your family brother. Oh, how our whole country needs revival, how North America needs it! Oh, how the world needs it.
Sometime, I'd love for you, Iain, to relate how your island was visited by revival many years ago. It would be interesting for those of our posters who never heard of it. I never tire in hearing about the details.
Sonja, what a precious happening to see Lyla Mae folding her hands without being told to do it. Oh, how I remember each of mine doing the same thing. And what a lovely site to behold to see Troy thanking the Lord silently for his food too even in the company of many who might ridicule him. Yes, you are doing a wonderful job. What was anticipated as being a restful week, has turned into chaos. All on this computer. I have deleted, uninstalled, cleaned up, orgainized, moved about everything on my computer and gained a little space. Then I did maintenance and now have 2.02 GB empty space. I then went to Homestead, clicked on Launch Site Builder which allows me to do things on my website and it wouldn't work. I emailed Homestead. They emailed me a fix....download the .exe file and install Site Builder. I did. Then there were updates...about an hour of them. Now it still won't launch!!! And I pay for this site!!!
But I did get some organization on the computer. Now I hope I can find things.

Al, we have been participating in the Presidential Prayer Team for quite some time now. I print out each new letter that arrives and Gene and I add the special requests to our prayer lists.
This has been a strange day. My friends two little kiddies are here. (see Have You Prayed About It ) Maggie will be getting out of hospital today, we are not sure for how long.
I have really bad lower back pain today, perhaps the weather is a factor

Hi Lee ........ 1 John 1:1 is a verse I use when I'm asking people "Who do say Jesus Christ is?" They will respond that "He is a good person, or He is a prophet, or He is the Son of God". I then say, "Yes, in the bible there are many names for Jesus" He is called the Door, the Rock, the Good Shepherd, the Way, the Truth & the Life, but in 1 John 1:1 it say that "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the WORD WAS GOD" and v.14 says and "he became flesh and dwelt among us". So He is "God the Son"
Some people are surprised to hear that He is God and he came to give us eternal life! After knowing that, many want Jesus, the mighty God and Saviour in their life.

Dear CP members,
I'd like to thank all the members that have kept me in their prayers. At the moment I haven't found work or a place to live, but, I know in time I will. It just a matter of trusting in The Lord and persevering. I'm a very optimistic, but, realistic type of person. Good times don't last and neither do difficult times, but, the good times FAR outweigh the bad.
Glad to hear that John is improving. All I can say is that God is good.

Thanks to all of you who are concerned about my computer. I did get an answer from the tech at Jasc about some windows on PSP8 being to big. I got that fixed. Now I need an answer about Homestead. I uploaded and downloaded and still can't get the Site Manager to open. I can upload stuff to my Page and File Manager which is what I do when I want to post photos. But I can't do anything about my website and it is a mess right now because I deleted pictures out of it.
I hope I am not getting carpel tunnel syndrome. My right arm aches from my shoulder to my wrist sometimes. Didn't start hurting until I sat down at the computer and it aches like a toothache. :'( :'(
I just need to prioritize and get all my ducks in a row, I guess!!! God is the head duck...I must remember that!!!!

I'm not speaking for others, but I fear it may be that one could reach a point of thinking of Pat Scott as a friend in the Lord, and the Administrator of this forum, and not a lady who hurts exactly as we do.
Pat, I (we) love you young one, and pray that you will keep a stiff upper lip during these times of on-going trials of being alone. Jack is still your buddy and lover, and he is in the right place and awaits your coming home. I haven't lost my earthly true love (Vivian), and I [pray it doesn't happen. I hate the thought of what my Vivian will have to go through when the Lord calls me home, and call me He will. Our time here on earth is but a whiff of smoke when we consider eternity with our Lord. Just think Pat, when you are in heaven with our Lord, no more female ;D ;D

I had a special thing at my house tonight. This month is Clergy Appreciation Month, and I hosted a "pampering" session for pastor's wives. My best friend and my pastor's wife came, and we did a Mary Kay "foot treatment" (modern day foot washing ;)), then I read some thoughts I had on being a pastor's wife. They seemed to enjoy it, and it was nice visiting with them.
I'm gonna go peruse the other forums now. Ya'll behave in here!
