Morning Devotional...

Two Parables of Losing and Finding
Luke 15:1-10  NLT

Tax collectors and other notorious sinners often came to listen to Jesus teach.  This made the Pharisees and teachers of religious law complain that he was associating with such sinful people—even eating with them!

So Jesus told them this story:  "If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, what will he do? Won't he leave the ninety-nine others in the wilderness and go to search for the one that is lost until he finds it?  And when he has found it, he will joyfully carry it home on his shoulders.  When he arrives, he will call together his friends and neighbors, saying, 'Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.'  In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven't strayed away!

"Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Won't she light a lamp and sweep the entire house and search carefully until she finds it?  And when she finds it, she will call in her friends and neighbors and say, 'Rejoice with me because I have found my lost coin.'  In the same way, there is joy in the presence of God's angels when even one sinner repents."

(https://www.christianphotographers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fhome.earthlink.net%2F%7Eettasue9842%2Fsitebuildercontent%2Fsitebuilderpictures%2Fstarblinking.gif&hash=d53900a37baea9ad7e55de7768716cba8c77fe07)How do these stories help you understand God's love for you?

It may seem foolish for the shepherd to leave ninety-nine sheep to go and search for just one.  But the shepherd knew that the ninety-nine would be safe in the sheepfold, whereas the lost sheep was in danger.  Because each sheep was of high value, the shepherd knew that it was worthwhile to search diligently for the lost one.

God's love for each individual is so great that he seeks each one out and rejoices when he or she is "found."  Jesus associated with sinners because he wanted to bring the lost sheep--people considered beyond hope--the gospel of God's Kingdom.  Before you were a believer, God sought you; and his love is still seeking those who are yet lost.

The trip to Bloomington/Indiana University was really colorful.  It is getting fall looking down south.  But it was cloudy so I didn't get any photos.  Funny, it is more fall looking south than here.

I think whichever kitty it was must have had a 24 hour flu bug.  I haven't found any 'presents' since this morning.  And I still don't know which one was the sicky.  Inky acts more skitterish but then Ali is acting more loving.  So which is it...the one that is afraid Mommy might get mad because of the presents or the one that wants more loving because she is sick?  Hmmmm!

I stopped on my way back home for some White Castles.  How many of you have eaten White Castles?  Little square burgers with chopped up onions and one slice of dill pickle on a little square bun!  I ate four of them and a small Chocolate Shake and only cost $3.86.  Cheap meal!  But I can remember when White Castle burgers were only 15 cents each.  That meal is getting to be a habit on my way home from I.U.  I can eat them while driving, too!

I'm off to take Beth to the dentist and pick up Abby for the weekend.  I will be away until after noon, since I want to take Diane to lunch.  I don't have nearly enough time with that busy daughter, so grab every opportunity.

Liz, when Pat has time, she is going to help me post the China trip story, complete with photos.  Of course, we only took about 1400 photos!  :o

I must run, will chat later when there is more time!

Manna ~ The Cross and the Will
Martha Kilpatrick
Oct 19, 2006

Matthew 26:39 "And going a little farther He fell on his face and prayed, saying, "My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from Me, nevertheless, not as I will but as You will."
The death of the soul is the surrender of the will. The will is the lead of the whole life. What you will to do, you do! Where you will to go, you go. The heart is the core of life but the will is the leader that rises out of the heart to pursue its direction. To give your will over to God is to die in surrender.

Jesus knew well the cup He would drink on the cross. It was the cup of the wrath of God for all the sin of humanity. (Isa. 51:17) And it meant total separation from God.

No one but Christ could drink that cup but in our surrender we will taste the death of the soul when we are asked to go a way that is against our strong desire.

It has been forever since I have been here!  I tell you though it is a busy time keeping up with two teenagers and a per-teen!

I have a comical store to relate.  We have a doberan pincer as a family pet.  She is well loved by all and knows it.  Last night John went to bed before me, and when I followed telling Dana that we were heading for bed, she ran upstairs and followed her usual routine.  She checked the girls witha quick lick on their faces, then onh to Melaura, she was asleep too.  then into our room and saw John was asleep, jumped on the bed and gave him a wuick lick then down on the floor to sleep beside the bed.  This was the first time sher includrd John in her routine,  She is so funny.

Have a good day everybody and I will be back again more frequently.

Thanks Etta Sue, for the Word today. :coffee:

Yesterday was Jazz's 4th birthday!  Our eldest son and his giirfriend gave Jazz a Harley-Davidson T-shirt and a rope-toy.  Midori and I prepared his annual treat of boiled chicken breast and a non-alcohol malt beverage.  He was one spoiled dog last night!

I've got a pretty busy schedule for the next few days.  I look forward to it, but also look forward to Monday morning when it is time to relax again.

This morning I read the 3rd chapter of Ephesians.  This is just a tiny morsel from there.

God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us.

In His Grip,
Kevin

Chris and Margit, glad to have you back.  I must say your itinerary just about wore me out.  It sounds like you had a great time but sure you are glad to be home.

Pat and I went out to lunch at a Chinese Buffet and had a very good lunch.  Won't need any dinner tonight.  This afternoon I went to Calvin Cove at the church and played the piano and sang with the elder care folks.  I am giving this up after Christmas as have been doing this for several years and feel it is time to back off from it.

Judy, nice to have you posting again.  You must have a very loving dog.  Don't know that I would want a kiss like that.  :)

Janet, hope you have a great time with Abby this weekend.

Sarah, hope you enjoyed working during the day today.

Etta Sue, I have heard of White Castle hamburgers but don't remember ever having eaten them.  We had Krystal hamburger places here that are similar to White Castle.  Thanks for the fine devotional message today.

Etta Sue - it's just plain amazing that God rejoices over His "found" ones like that!  But listen to what Zephaniah says - it's incredible!  "The Lord your God in your midst, the Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love.  He will rejoice over you with singing."  Zeph. 3:17

Can you take that in?  GOD rejoicing over you in song!!

Al, wouldn't you like to hear God sing?  Oh, I would.   Talk about a hushed next 100 years or so!  <3 Just to think that He rejoices over us with song...that's more amazing than my small mind can wrap around.  Yet...PRECIOUS WORD....I believe it because He said so. :) <3 :'( <3 ??? <3

We are so blessed.  Nita

Either someone forgot to post a new devotional or we are continuing on yesterdays....

Bright and sunny here today but cold.....brrrrr!  And I need to 'mow' leaves!

Ivalou called and wanted to know if I wanted to go with her to IHOP last evening.  So we both had breakfast for dinner.

Today I have swept the house and I am doing some laundry.  Perhaps this afternoon I will mow.  It is only 42° right now so I don't think it will warm up much more.  Brrrrrr!

Hmmmm.......I sure hope Pat is all right.

Cool and crisp here today.  I went for an anaerobic workout, then swam with Abby.  Mis sister was there with a little girl she baby-sits occasionally, so the girls had a great time, then Kate came home with us.  Just now, they are outdoors playing with the dogs.  (I hope!)  :)

No news around here that I can think of, anyway.  See you later.

I think Pat just forgot to close this thread.  There is a new devotional for Oct 20,21 and 22.  If I remember what I read correctly, Pat will be away for the weekend at a photography function.
