Morning Devotional...

Holding Back
C. H. Spurgeon

"Keep not back."      --Isaiah 43:6

Although this message was sent to the south, and referred to the seed of Israel, it may profitably be a summons to ourselves.

Backward we are naturally to all good things, and it is a lesson of grace to learn to go forward in the ways of God.

Reader, are you unconverted, but do you desire to trust in the Lord Jesus? Then keep not back. Love invites you, the promises secure you success, the precious blood prepares the way.

Let not sins or fears hinder you, but come to Jesus just as you are. Do you long to pray? Would you pour out your heart before the Lord? Keep not back.

The mercy-seat is prepared for such as need mercy; a sinner's cries will prevail with God. You are invited, nay, you are commanded to pray, come therefore with boldness to the throne of grace.

Dear friend, are you already saved? Then keep not back from union with the Lord's people. Neglect not the ordinances of baptism and the Lord's Supper.

You may be of a timid disposition, but you must strive against it, lest it lead you into disobedience. There is a sweet promise made to those who confess Christ--by no means miss it, lest you come under the condemnation of those who deny Him.

If you have talents keep not back from using them. Hoard not your wealth, waste not your time; let not your abilities rust or your influence be unused.

Jesus kept not back, imitate Him by being foremost in self-denials and self-sacrifices.

Keep not back from close communion with God, from boldly appropriating covenant blessings, from advancing in the divine life, from prying into the precious mysteries of the love of Christ.

Neither, beloved friend, be guilty of keeping others back by your coldness, harshness, or suspicions. For Jesus' sake go forward yourself, and encourage others to do the like. Hell and the leaguered bands of superstition and infidelity are forward to the fight.

O soldiers of the cross, keep not back.

 ;D Janet, Jane, and Judy..........

My post was a play on words.  Janet said:

"No, Pat, but I'm ready to go home!  Have to stay today to get Abby to and from school.......but tonight I will go home!  Yea!!

Be it ever so humble, there's no place like home!"

Where do Christians go when they die?  They go "Home to be with the Lord".  My humor dropped like a lead nickle.  Sorry ladies.

That's ok, Lee!  We still love you!  Guess we spent so much time trying to find the posts that we lost the punch line!  HAHAHAHA!

Hey there PAT! ... now that's a different kind of lock on the door!  hmmm   Oh, well, it's still the 21st here where I live so I can still say "good-night" to y'all...

MIEKA~ I know I'm going to be "most perfect" for the doctors ... what can they find anyway?  I'm a child of the King and He takes good care of me ... all the time!  It looks like it will be at least after the 13th of November before I will be free to travel to my daughter's.  That's when I am scheduled for the treadmill test.   :-\  Maybe I can arrange a trip up to Spokane for Thanksgiving week.  We'll have to talk about it.  And I am, for sure, praying about it!  ;)
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

RUTHIE~You're welcome for the flowers.  I have 8 grandchildren and 5 (almost 5) great grandchildren, so I know how it is to be praying much for them ... all the time!  Enjoy!!  They grow up so quickly.   ;)

Kinda quiet in here today... guess everyone ran out of breath in that marathon session yesterday!

Stupid here overslept this morning - I hate it when I do that.  I've only done it like three or four times in almost 10 years at my job, and it really gets me off to a bad start.

Gotta continue the Moses discussion...  what actually happened was that Moses' mother hid him for three months (I think) and THEN put him in the basket.  She did that because she saw that he was a "goodly child."  Would any mother think her child was NOT "goodly"?  Maybe, in today's society, but back then, I don't think so.  I think it's a clear case of God awakening her motherly instincts to a higher level than that of the women around her.  Remember - all the boys were being thrown in the river!!!!  ONLY Moses is mentioned as being saved.  We cannot miss the parallel with Jesus Christ - THEY WERE BOTH THE ONLY JEWISH BOYS THEIR AGE THAT LIVED (in a certain area), as far as we know!!!!  Talk about being special!  God protected Moses through the instincts and wisdom of his mother.  God protected Jesus by giving Joseph a dream.

It's all a rather amazing story, in a way.  I wonder how many days Moses floated in the river?  Was it as obvious to Pharaoh's daughter that she was being tricked as it is to us when we read the story?  What about the possibility that God BLESSED the midwives (gave them houses) for lying and protecting the Jewish boys?  (I personally think they lied, but the Bible isn't perfectly clear.  They may have told the truth, and the Jewish women may have always delivered before they got there.)

Okay, now that I've taken attention and discussion away from Pat's awesome devotional for the day, I'll go away!

Love y'all!
I survived open heart surgery.... :)

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  It is another beautiful day here in Georgia and suppose to get into the 70s today.  Last evening was quite warm.  When I read about it being cold in Canada and Holland and England, I must confess I am not envious.   :D  I will take the weather here in the southeast of the USA.

Sonja, congratulations on reaching 1000 postings.  I am happy to see you having time to be posting more often this fall.

Ruthie, congratuations to you as a new grandmother.  You are so fortunate to have so many grandchildren, as are you Jane.  We have only one living grandchild and one great grandchild, although will have a second great grandchild after the first of the year.  I have only one sister so we have a very small family group.

Jane, glad to hear the doctor is going to check you out.  Better to be safe than sorry.

Lee, glad to see you now have the knack of copying, pasting and picking up the quote.  I always enjoy your postings.

Mieka, as always good to see your comments and your interesting observations.  You are a very kind hearted and considerate person and you enrich all of us here on CP.

Judyb, I also have been wondering about Iain and hope he is just busy with other activities and that he soon will stop by to at least say hi.

Pat, is there any news on the little girl that was kidnapped?  That is so frightening and seems to be happening so often.  There is so much evil in this world.

Sonifo

Hi Larry, It is supposed to be in the 80's here.  wooohoooo!  I love this warm weather.

Today is my daughters birthday! She is 5 years old.  Wow, does time fly!

I am going to take her out to breakfast and then go to the jewelery store to get her a pretty necklace. That is her favorite thing to do.

Pat~
the devotion was great today!  I will read this to my kids during bible time.  Thanks!

I better head out the door if I am going to get anything done today.
Have a good day peeps!
Sonja

Janet

Hello, everyone!  I slept really well, and didn't even wake up in time to go swim today.  Guess I was playing catch up after a few nights of not sleeping well.  It feels really good, too!

Lee, actually, I did think maybe that was what you meant; but then I thought, well, even if we are going home to heaven, it shouldn't be scary-------so I was puzzled.  Sometimes my attempts at humor fall a bit short, too!  We love you, brother.

I am missing Iain, Janice and Shinenlite, and several others we haven't heard from in some time.  I pray each of them is doing fine.

CONGRATULATIONS, RUTHIE! What a lucky baby little Evelyn is to have you for her Grandma!  Enjoy!

Abby doesn't have school for the rest of the week because of parent teacher conferences.  So I brought her home with me again, until this afternoon late.  That will make a week she's been with me!  Her Daddy is really missing her, he says. ;D

At school yesterday, they had "Sharing" which used to be called "Show and Tell."  Abby took her stuffed Tigger who is holding a candle which lights up when you squeeze his chest.  She told me she was going to share about friendship.

I went early to observe the class, so I was there for "sharing" time.  When it came Abby's turn, she showed her Tigger, then she said "My tigger teaches me about friendship, because until yesterday, his candle didn't work.  We put in a new battery.  But he wasn't perfect before.  And our friends aren't perfect, either, but we still should love them.  Because the Bible says if we want friends we have to be a friend.  And like in that video we just watched, when they put the puzzle all together, that was like friendship.  But if you dump the puzzle out, it's like breaking up the friendship; and I want my friendships to be all together."

Woah!! This grandma was impressed!  There is so much more depth to children than we suspect sometimes.  I took photos! ;) So I will share those when I get time to get them ready.

I'd better stop for now, before I wear you out with my chatter.

Janet, that is so precious of Abby.  They are smarter then we think.  Thanks for sharing that and can't wait to see pictures.  ;D

Marilyn

Good Morning:
Janet How nice it was that you could be there to hear Abby's sharing time. Kids never cease to amaze us with what they learn when we think nothing is getting through to them.

Pat thanks for the devotional I have to go back and read it a gain so I can't comment right now.

Wow 116 posts yesterday is that a record. We sure are getting to be a chatty bunch aren't we.

Lee Chris and Margit, Nards, Al. you did such a great job on answering Mieka's questions and adding to yesterday's devotional. I love it when that happens. Thank you Jesus for these brothers and sisters who are so knowledgeable.

Hi Everyone...

To answer several, the little girl, Cecilia, has NOT been found yet.  They think that she was taken to obtain money for ransom but these details have not been released yet from the police if in fact this is the case.

Hey Pat, how sad, isn't it?  They said she was taken from her bedroom, through a window.  It's so sad, there have been so many abductions in the Toronto area.  We really need to keep praying.

Well, I went for a drive at lunch with Luke, to look at a spot we'd been given as a suggestion for the wedding.  It was perfect....except that there was no hedge at the back, so you could see right through to the 401 and parking lot that was right up tight against the back of the property...and the noise.  It's getting a little discouraging now...we need to find a spot soon so we can book it.

Pat, have you got any suggestions for places to have an outdoor wedding around here?  Jen.

Etta Sue

What great reading since I was last here.  Then, for some strange reason, I was unable to get on here earlier this morning.  Now it is past noon.

What great answers for Mieka about Moses and his mother.  My opinion is that Moses' mother felt he would be killed by the Eyptians if she didn't do something so she put him in a basket and placed him in the river in hopes that he would float down the river out of Egypt and be saved by someone who was not Egyptian.  But Moses' sister followed and saw the king's daughter bathing in the river and saw her get the basket with Moses' in it.  She approached the daughter and asked if she would like for her to get a Hebrew mother to nurse the baby.  And did so.  Moses' own mother.  She took him to her own home and raised him.  Later she took him back to the king's daughter who adopted him and named him Moses....because she pulled him out of the water.  Happenstance?  No, God's plan.

Is it a record....116 posts yesterday!!!

I received a call from my son this morning from Gatlinburg....he was standing on the balcony of his motel...65°!  Only 45° here at the time.  They are having a great time seeing the fall foliage.  They are leaving to come home Saturday.

I saw my brother's RV and bass boat go passed my house this morning.  Must have fishing on his mind before it gets real cold.  Also Ivalou called and is still in Ohio....coming home tomorrow.  I took Jerry home last evening...so I am all alone with God.  He is a great conversationalist!!!  A great comforter!!!  A great Father!!!!

"THIS IS THE DAY, THIS IS THE DAY, THIS IS THE DAY THAT THE LORD HAS MADE..............."

I wrote a letter to Iain two days ago and no response.  It's certainly prayer time, and it just might be worry time.

Hey there Larry, where in Georgia do you live?  I've been to Atlanta and visited the "Underground city".  Wasn't a Christian then.  If I had been, I'd have been sitting on Charles Stanley's door step to give him a big hug.
