October 25 - Get Rid of the Frogs

"When shall I intreat for thee, and for thy servants, and for thy people, to destroy the frogs from thee and thy houses?"
(Exodus 8:9)

Have you ever wrestled with one of those problems that stubbornly refuses to go away? It seems to be immune to all solutions. You swat at the thing in every conceivable way, but instead of being eliminated, it expands and multiplies until it's wildly out of control.

An Egyptian pharaoh faced just that kind of problem, the Bible tells us, thousands of years ago. He was in a hot dispute with God over the future of the Israelites, and as a result of that dispute, he woke up one morning to find his country swarming with frogs. Slimy, smelly, hopping-all-over-the-place frogs.

It was a serious problem. I'm not talking about a frog or two in the front yard. I mean frogs were everywhere--in their beds, on their tables. Big old frogs in the ovens. Little bitty frogs in the bread dough and the drinking water. Frogs. Frogs in your hair. Frogs in places you wouldn't even want to think about!

Then God made a move. He sent His man Moses in to Pharaoh to ask, "When shall I entreat the Lord to get these frogs out of here?"

Do you know what Pharaoh said?

"Tomorrow." Can you imagine that? He could have said, "Right now! Today!" But instead he decided he'd spend one more night among the frogs.

You say, "That's the stupidest thing I ever heard. Why in the world would he do it tomorrow?" I don't know. Probably for the same reason you want to wait until tomorrow to get saved or healed or prosperous.

Here's what I want you to notice. When Moses asked Pharaoh that question and he answered, "Tomorrow," Moses said, "All right. So that you know there's a God in heaven, BE IT DONE UNTO YOU ACCORDING TO YOUR WORDS."

Let me ask you this: How long are you willing to let that persisting problem harass you? When are you going to get rid of the frogs in your life? Do you realize they'll stay around as long as you'll let them? They'll be there until you finally make a quality decision to go with the Word of God and get them out.

Why don't you do it today?

Scripture Study: Exodus 8:1-13

WoW...here in Texas it's 10:30pm and it's already a new day in England!  Well, since you all were praying for me, I just wanted to share with you all that I got a letter in the mail today - the Unemployment benefits that I'd been denied and was contesting - I won the appeal.  The other party still has 14 days to refute it, but I believe it will stand.  I have a photo shoot in the morning EARLY - 7am!  So I'd better hit the hay!...Have a great day! Shalom.

Thanks for the devotional, Janet.  I have spent the past few days dealing with my own computer frog.  It crashed!  I had to use the original system disks, do a complete restore of the system, all the updates, reloading, etc., then do the XP SP2 again.  Then figure out all the things that I had changed from the factory version, load new programs, etc.  Finally have it working okay, except this print seems small on my message.  Is there a way to enlarge it here.....have the text enlarged on my machine?????? :P

It is 11:30 in the evening and this has been a busy day, with the Sears Stove getting a yearly check, cats, bird, dinner for the kids, etc.  So am totally out of the loop, as have not read all the posts for the past while.  See some new pictures, very nice Pat, Etta Sue, etc.

Amanda and I went to Victoria on Sat. to see the Eqyptian Exhibit at the museum.  Only they had such a large crowd of people coming that we could not get tickets at the door....along with a zillion other folks, some who were not terribley gracious.  It is ending this week, so bought a DVD telling about the film that was on at the IMAX....have not viewed it as yet.  Sort of a strange thing....you mentioning Eqypt in the devotional.

Misty lost her collar today....so will have to go shop for a new one, including another budgie bell.  Cat bells are so small, we want to be able to hear her outside....also helps protect the birds.

This print is really hard on my eyes.  Do let me know what to do about enlarging it on this site.  Seems to me I knew that before and it has gone the way of much of my data. :-\

Here is a little smile, see there is a new spot for such, will put it here anyway.

Once when the power went off at the elementary school, the cook couldn't serve a hot meal in the cafeteria.  She had to feed the children something, so at the last minute she whipped up great stacks of peanut-butter and jelly sandwiches.

As one little boy filled his plate, he said, "It's about time.  At last...a home cooked meal!"

Don't suppose my absence was noticed, but I'm back anyway!

:)

Pleasant dreams and God Bless.

Liz

Hi Pinkie.  So glad you got work to do.  I thank God re the unemployment decision.  He will hold it for you....it's in His victorious right hand.

Thank you! Thank You ! and Thank you again!  I wish that I could tell all that has been happening in my life. Some of it not so good but most of it WONDERFUL with the
exception of my weary PC.....Thanks so much Pat for remembering my birthday!
God has been so good to me. I was blessed to be able to attend the Women Of
Faith conference in St Paul MN this past weekend and believe me, if any of you ladies
have ever attended, you know what I mean!

I had no idea that my spirit and my soul were so thirsty for MORE of our Lord!
You go along believing that you have it halfway together and there you have it WHAM!
right in the kisser, where God tells you to draw closer to Him and He makes it evident
that you have been running on fumes.

Imagine 18,000 women ( brothers you can imagine this too!) all lifting holy hands and
sharing and laughing and praying and praising and laying our lives open before our Lord!
The theme for this year is Irrepressable Hope!  Marilyn Meberg, Thelma Wells, Patsy Clairmont,
Luci Swindoll and Sheila Walsh delivered such funny, wonderful, powerful and personal messages. The praise team along with Babbie Mason were wondeful to the ear and I came back after two days, with a new sense of where God wants me to be and what He wants
me to keep my mind on and how its gonna all work out, no matter what it looks like!

GOD IS IN CONTROL!  What an awesome realization! We cannot carry it all! I have been refreshed, rekindled, renewed, reassured, and re-focused! If I could bottle the essence of the conference and share it with you all, I surely would. As it stands, I can only share how my heart has been filled and filled again with new energy and hope that cannot be pressed or pushed down!  Can you tell that I enjoyed myself? LOL

Thanks again for the birthday wishes!  I am trying to figure out my computer. It is old and
someone is coming this weekend to try and give IT a refreshment or two!

Love In Christ, Zee ;)

Janet - the devotional this morning brought me back to a conversation I had with a co-worker just yesterday. A much faster, better way to do things (and even cheaper, too!) has been set up for him, and he has put it off and put it off. However, the old way stopped working for him yesterday, so today he will be moving to the new system. That's been a "frog" in his life for almost a year and a half that he didn't have to try to live with.

What a wondrous blessing to see Liz, Pinkie, and Ria join us this morning.

Each of you was really missed.

Ria, I have had cataract surgery on both my eyes, so I understand how dim the print can get, etc. Thank goodness you've found medications to help your eyes and the bad feelings you've endured. It is truly wonderful how modern medications can help us find a level again. Best wishes for your father's situation.

Pinky, I once contested and won an unemployment situation. In my instance, even though I typed 130 wpm, took shorthand at 300 wpm, and handled all other office machines in a professional manner, this small firm CEO said I did not have the skills to be his secretary. The secretary preceding me and the one after me later charged him for sexual harrassment. I think he didn't like me because I am overweight.

Liz, you have really been missed. Thanks for such a lovely post.

Zeebers, I hope your birthday is wonderful. I would love to attend just such a conference. My soul feels weary right now. In fact, I'm taking a 2 day vacation to be with my children the first part of next week. And, my fond dream is that when all go to their respective places of work and school on Monday, I can just sit alone in their quiet home and soak in the peace and quiet.

Larry, I'm praying for you.

Y'all have a good day.

I, too, note the change in type size. However, I've had so many problems with my eyes through the last 10 years that I've learned to go into the VIEW section of my menu and choose the LARGEST text setting if I have problems at a particular site.

Then, if I need to readjust my VIEW later on, I can do so without problems. To me, it's wonderful the programmers built in such nice features to make our lives flow so much easier.

Hope this little tip helps.

Welcome Gwen!!!

Hello to Ria and Zeebers

Soni:  The hairdo is darling

Janet:  I will tell Don that you sent him a hug.  I am a great admirer of how you handle your life and give great testimonies.

Etta Sue:  Loved your rose hello with sparkling diamonds.  Â

Pat:  Great that you finally got to your super concert.

Jenny:  So good to hear that you sister is coming for a visit.  Ten years is too long!

Pinkie:  Super Duper!  So glad that you have your unemployment benefits.

Just for everyone's information - the movie "The Four Chaplains" sacrifice at sea is going to be on the Hallmark channel - Wednesday, November 10th.  I read the book and it is an astouding true story - I marked my calendar and will try to remind everyone just before it is on.

Don is fixing breakfast this morning - such a nice treat now that he has retired.  I must clean the kitchen florr and will do this in small steps just like Jane stacked her wood  ;)  Getting out the scrub brush and so forth, this is not my favorite thing to do.

WAAAHHH!!!  I lost my whole, lovely, long post!! :'( :'( :'(

RIA!!  It's wonderful to have you back here on CP!!  I have missed you!  But I know things have been tough for you, with your dad's problems and your eyes bothering you.  Glad you got medicine for your eyes, that should make your life easier.  (((hugs)))

Liz, too bad you couldn't see the exhibit.  I surely would enjoy seeing that, too.  And YES WE DID miss you.  But I understand that we all have lives, and sometimes things just get complicated.  Good to have you back! :D :D  I usually use the BOLD feature to make my posts easier for others to read, maybe that would help.

Ruth Ann, I so enjoyed our conversation last night!  You sound as lovely and gracious on the phone as you do in print!  ;)  I hope you have a wonderful little break away from work, and just MARINATE in the love of God.  (((hugs)))

I have a baby on my lap, think I'd better post this before I lose it, too!  She is getting grabby!  Back later.............

I finally got the little one to sleep, so will finish my post!  My goodness!  Every time she looks at me, she cries, as if to say "YOU'RE not my Grandma!"  And I'm not, she is my sister's only grandchild, and she usually stays with her grandma.  Noticing strangers these days, I guess.  Her name is Autumn, and she will be one year old on Thanksgiving Day.

Carol, I'm sure you are happy to be able to do some of your work, but don't ovedo it!  That ankle still needs lots of TLC for a while.  Good for Don, cooking for you!  Darrel does most of the cooking around here, and I like it! ;D

Marilyn, you are keeping busy without working, aren't you?  Some of us are just that way, don't know how to "do nothing."  But I guess we like being busy!

Happy Birthday, Jeebers!! I'm so happy you got to go to Women of Faith, and would have loved to be there with you.  We all need those times of refreshing, for sure!  It's really nice to see your smiling face back here on CP.  :)

Hello there, Ruth!  Have a great day!

Jenny, always good to see you, too.

Sarah, how are all your lives going?  You're a busy girl, with school, sports, youth group and EMTs.  Keep your eyes on the goal!  Love you.

Soni, you blasted through here so fast you made my head spin!!!  Slow down once in a while, will you?  We might want to talk to you!  ;)  I know you have a busy life, too.

The eye doctor's office just called and said they saw Mom this morning, and the doctor wants to talk to me and my sister at 5:00.  Sounds ominous.......Mom has macular degeneration and also glaucoma, her sight has been getting more and more dim.  She keeps saying it's the TV, but we know it isn't.  She just got a new one, bright, clear picture, and she still can't see it.

I'd better go before I bore you all to ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.............

Janet ~ Thanks so much for the devotion this morning.  Yes, we do have 'frogs' in our lives that we need to get rid of so that we can devote our time to God.

Larry ~ My thoughts and prayers are with you today as you visit your oncologist.  I am praying that good news is coming your way.

Ria ~ Wow!!!!!  I am so happy you are back with us.  I know you have had problems and concerns with your father and your eyes.  I am so happy that the doctor has prescribed medication to ease the watering of your eyes and therefore, you can see better.  My heart smiled while reading your post.

Zeebers ~ HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ZEEBERS!!!!  I love hearing Babbie Mason.  She gave a concert at my church last year.  What a lovely treat!!!  She has a voice of an angel.

Jenny ~ I did 'mow' my leaves again yesterday.  But my deck is covered with leaves.  I need to sweep them up but I also need to bag them up.  I have enough leaves in the rocks around my house.  I need to invest in a powerful leaf blower, I believe!!!!!

My computer is full of wedding pictures.  (about 70 so far) I want to run them through my PSP.  My DIL and her SIL doesn't do that.  Perhaps I can enhance some of them and sharped some of them.  The newlyweds are in Hawaii right now.  How lucky!!!!

I started late this morning and I am still late in doing things today.  I did get to visit Ivalou this morning.  Her grandson, Parker, spent the night last night and will tonight.  Her g-granddaughter is going to stay next Friday night by herself.  Also this weekend her daughter and family from Ohio are coming and I am going with all of them to the RCA Dome in Indy to watch High School Band competition all day and evening.  That will be fun!!!!!!!!

To me, it's wonderful the programmers built in such nice features to make our lives flow so much easier.Ruth Ann

Here's a little trick that my son taught me:  hold down on the "Ctrl" button, and scroll with your mouse.  You can alter the size of the type up or down in this manner.

Failure and Success: Crowds at Any Price

O Timothy! Guard what was committed to your trust, avoiding the
profane and idle babblings and contradictions of what is falsely
called knowledge-by professing it some have strayed concerning the
faith....
--1 Timothy 6:20-21

The crowds-at-any-price mania has taken a firm grip on American
Christianity and is the motivating power back of a shockingly high
percentage of all religious activity. Men and churches compete for
the attention of the paying multitudes who are brought in by means
of any currently popular gadget or gimmick ostensibly to have
their souls saved, but, if the truth were told, often for reasons
not so praiseworthy as this....

Our constant effort should be to reach as many persons as possible
with the Christian message, and for that reason numbers are
critically important. But our first responsibility is not to make
converts but to uphold the honor of God in a world given over to
the glory of fallen man. No matter how many persons we touch with
the gospel we have failed unless, along with the message of
invitation, we have boldly declared the exceeding sinfulness of man
and the transcendent holiness of the Most High God. They who
degrade or compromise the truth in order to reach larger numbers,
dishonor God and deeply injure the souls of men.

The temptation to modify the teachings of Christ with the hope that
larger numbers may "accept" Him is cruelly strong in this day of
speed, size, noise, and crowds. But if we know what is good for us,
we'll resist it with every power at our command.  The Size of the
Soul, 117-119.

"Lord, deliver me from this temptation. Give me a deep, unshakable
commitment 'to uphold the honor of God in a world given over to
the glory of fallen men'--whether I achieve crowds and success or
not. Amen."

Thanks Pinkie.  I already have my Text & Fonts at large....this makes viewing easier and your hint has solved part of the problem.  My problem is the small text while typing the message.....before posting it!  Have a deteriorating optic nerve and my vision is not great with the cataracts.....since redoing my computer, the above has appeared as a new problem.  Using your hint has greatly improve the reading of posted messages and I do thank you and others for their suggestions.  Now, if I can figure out why my 'before posting' is so tiny, will be  ;D

Guess what...I tried something else.  Hit Zoom in my As Jeeves Toolbar and increased the size....not can see what I am typing.

Thank you Pinkie for your tip. It sure makes a BIG difference.

I had Forest here for a couple of hours this morning. Sarah picked him up at noon after working in OB at the local hospital. She has three weeks there, and has already done three weeks at the hospital in Eureka. Savannah will be coming this afternoon.

Gloria is doing well, she came through the surgery with flying colours. She may be released from the hospital on Frisday. I told her I would come to help her for a day or two but she needs to get another caregiver immediately. I will try to get up to the hospital to see her today and to the nursing home to see Fay.

WOWIE WOW WOW!!!  Some good news from Beth, Praise the Lord!!  I am so happy about it.  She called me earlier to tell me about it and was grinning from ear to ear, I could hear it in her voice!  Now, why didn't one of her many doctors suggest this MONTHS ago ???  But we thank and praise God for this improvement, He is good, all the time, and His mercies are new every morning!

WELCOME, GWEN!!!  It's great to have you here, and congrats on posting here already!!  Good going!

Nighty-night, dear Ria!  I'm SO happy you are back.  Don't stress about it, just come in when you can, it will be just fine.

Another grin for you................

A couple phoned a neighbor to extend birthday greetings.  They dialed the number and then together, sang "Happy Birthday" to him.  But, when they finished their off-key rendition, they discovered that they had dialed the wrong number.

"Don't let it bother you", said a strange but amused voice.  "You folks need all the practice you can get."

Hi everyone.

Janet, thanks for that fine devotional.  I just read your last posting concerning your delight with Beth's improvement.  I think sometimes when so many doctors are involved they just focus on their one little area and leave somethings to the others and thus things fall through the cracks.  It sounds like the physical therapy and the new medication is helping a lot.  Do hope the report from the eye doctor regarding your mother isn't bad news.

What a delightful day here on CP.  It is just super to see Rachel, Ria and Zeebers back posting.  We have missed you.

Ria, glad you have found something to help your eyes.  Sure sorry to hear of the additional fall your father has experienced.  I know how difficult it is for our parents when it is obvious they will not be able to return to their own homes.  We faced that with both of my parents.  Fortunately they accepted the situation and didn't make it any more difficult for my sister and I.

Happy Birthday, Zeebers.  Your conference sounds like it was great.  I always like to hear Babbie Mason sing as they often feature her on the Moody Broadcasting Network that I listen to over the Internet, although haven't heard her for awhile.  Hope your computer is able to be pepped up.

Sarah, congratulations on your school's team accomplishment.

Pinkie, glad you have had success in your unemployment case.  Congratulations on your ribbons for your photos.

Liz, good to see you posting today.  Sorry you weren't able to see the Egyptian exhibit as sure it would have been very nice.  I see that several have advised you on how to increase the size of your font.  I didn't know about the tip that Pinkie provided, although have accidently done that on occasion.

Jenny, what is a "shepard's warning"?  Has it warmed up over there.

Ruth Ann, glad you are going to have a couple of days of vacation.  I know you certainly need it.

Gwen, welcome to CP.  Glad you found us here in New Every Morning as this is where we try to all meet, at least occasionally.

Carol, have you thought of having someone to come in and do the floors.  We have a lady who comes every two weeks to do the heavy cleaning as it was just too hard on my wife to keep up with it.  It has really helped and it is so nice to have everything cleaned up at one time.  Glad that Don is feeling up to doing some cooking.  Is his leg pain better?

Beth, glad to see you posting and to read that you are benefiting from the new medication and the physical therapy.  Do you see daily change in the growth of the new pup?

Hi to Marilyn, Ruth, Chris & Margit,  Sonja, and Pat

Etta Sue, I did see the oncologist today and settled on the treatment plan.  I am going to have the radioactive seed implants done in about a month.  He doesn't feel there is a need to do the external radiation in addition to the seeds.  He told me I have only one of the two different types of cancer cells that are seen in the prostate and that it is only moderately aggressive.  He said he has done about 2,000 of these seed implant procedures.  I also read in their literature that they have done more seed implants at this facility than at any other hospital in the United States.  This will be done on an out-patient basis.  I do have to have an antisetic (thank goodness) and then will be able to come home after I wake up and will need to stay quiet for the rest of that day and the next and then can resume all normal activities.  I am very relieved to have the decision made and to know that I don't face the 6 to 7 weeks of daily radiation.

Sorry for the length of this posting but just couldn't help myself.   ;D ;D ;D

Normally not on the site this much...doing ironing and odd jobs today and keep returning to have a little rest.

Larry, I am so glad that you have a plan with the doctor and God will be there every minute.  Will pray for you regularly.

Ria, I am so glad that you are back.  Simply love reading your lovely posts and inspiring poems.

Janet, how wonderful that Beth is doing better.  Now you will both feel better....God is so good :)

Have exceeded my weeks posting in one day and will next get busy with pictures.

God Bless.

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D  Hooray!!  This seems to have been my day to hear good news!!  (I'm sure there is a lesson here about immediately thinking it was going to be BAD news.  :-\) The optometrist said that the pressure in Mom's eyes was good, and that he can help her with new lenses.  BUT he also said her cataracts are needing to be removed, and with that procedure, she should have a remarkable improvement in her eyesight, and possibly not even need the drops for glaucoma any more!!  She will be SO happy, as she loves to read and watch TV and stuff like that.  She's been saying it just takes more and more light all the time.  GOD IS SO GOOD!!

Larry, I'm glad you have made your decision as to the treatment.  That one does seem the best, and the least invasive, and we will continue our prayers for your complete recovery.  God bless you.

Liz, you can come in here as often as you like!

Pinkie, that's a neat trick!  Thanks.

Certainly has lifted my spirits to read here this evening. I can come tired and a bit depressed, and your posts lift me up.

As you know, I've been dealing with much foot and leg pain. Well, today the doctor and I worked out a means for me to try a medication (tiny doses at first, possibly to increase), and I will only need to take them at bedtime. He believes this will give me the relief from this pain that has kept me awake so many nights lately.

Also, I'm so very thankful that he completed the handicapped tag form so I will be able to park close to store entrances, etc. That will help a lot, too.

Larry, I'll be praying for you as you undergo this treatment.

Y'all hang in there.

By the way, Janet, if you don't know someone to ask about the cataract surgeries, I can let you know a good bit about the way mine were done. Tell your mother to think of the old Johnson's wax commercials on TV. Do you remember they had a "split screen" where the left side of the screen was quite dull and dingy looking, and the right side was so sparkly and fresh looking?

Well, that's what she can look forward to after the surgeries. Absolutely marvelous!

Ria, I can also share the same information with you. The surgeries may be handled a bit differently in your country, but maybe the memories I have will help you to look forward to a bright new world after the operations are over.

Y'all have a great day.

Ruth Ann

Larry - I thank our Lord for the decision.  The seed implants, to my way of thinking, are the best of the possible ways od dealing with PC.  I've done a fair amount of reading on PC, and the other approaches seem to me to be much harsher.  I pray for you that  our God will free you from further problems by this means.

Gwen - Welcome here![/size].  I join absolutey everyone else in welcoming you to CP!  Tell  us all about yourself, etc.

Savannah and I went to the hospital to visit Gloria today, we also went to Petco to buy Happy a "Good Dog Collar" it is a pinch collar made out of plastic instead to that heavy metal stuff. I have got to get him to "heel". We will beging our training tomorrow.

I feel like I haven't really accomplished much today, but when I look back at my day  really did accomplish a lot. Cleaned  my stove inside and out, cleaned the kitchen, vacuumned all the carpets. (in my small trailer that isn't much), went to Eureka, watched both grand kids for a couple of hours separately. Well my day was a little bit busy. I got two calls wanting me to work for them, turned them both down. I can get $400. a month unemployment, why work for less than that? Don't answer that it is a  moot question.

You DID have a busy day, Marilyn.

Have you tried treat training your dog to heel?  That's how I trained Geordie.   I carried a small treat in my closed hand while I said "heel" and if he heeled for quite awhile, he got the treat.

Now, I just very seldom use it.
