Morning Devotional...
Jesus Calls People to Follow
Mark 1:16-39 NLT
16One day as Jesus was walking along the shores of the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother, Andrew, fishing with a net, for they were commercial fishermen. 17Jesus called out to them, "Come, be my disciples, and I will show you how to fish for people!" 18And they left their nets at once and went with him.
19A little farther up the shore Jesus saw Zebedee's sons, James and John, in a boat mending their nets. 20He called them, too, and immediately they left their father, Zebedee, in the boat with the hired men and went with him.
21Jesus and his companions went to the town of Capernaum, and every Sabbath day he went into the synagogue and taught the people. 22They were amazed at his teaching, for he taught as one who had real authority--quite unlike the teachers of religious law.
23A man possessed by an evil spirit was in the synagogue, 24and he began shouting, "Why are you bothering us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are--the Holy One sent from God!"
25Jesus cut him short. "Be silent! Come out of the man." 26At that, the evil spirit screamed and threw the man into a convulsion, but then he left him.
27Amazement gripped the audience, and they began to discuss what had happened. "What sort of new teaching is this?" they asked excitedly. "It has such authority! Even evil spirits obey his orders!" 28The news of what he had done spread quickly through that entire area of Galilee.
29After Jesus and his disciples left the synagogue, they went over to Simon and Andrew's home, and James and John were with them. 30Simon's mother-in-law was sick in bed with a high fever. They told Jesus about her right away. 31He went to her bedside, and as he took her by the hand and helped her to sit up, the fever suddenly left, and she got up and prepared a meal for them.
32That evening at sunset, many sick and demon-possessed people were brought to Jesus. 33And a huge crowd of people from all over Capernaum gathered outside the door to watch. 34So Jesus healed great numbers of sick people who had many different kinds of diseases, and he ordered many demons to come out of their victims. But because they knew who he was, he refused to allow the demons to speak.
35The next morning Jesus awoke long before daybreak and went out alone into the wilderness to pray. 36Later Simon and the others went out to find him. 37They said, "Everyone is asking for you."
38But he replied, "We must go on to other towns as well, and I will preach to them, too, because that is why I came." 39So he traveled throughout the region of Galilee, preaching in the synagogues and expelling demons from many people.

We often assume that Jesus' disciples were great men of faith from the first time they met Jesus. But they had to grow in their faith just as all believers do.
Although it took time for Jesus' call and his message to get through, the disciples followed. In the same way, we may question and falter, but we must never stop following Jesus
The Best of the Bible--365 Must-Read Bible Passages
Good morning all.
I have a rather urgent (and seemingly insignificant) request. This morning at 8:30 eastern, I have a student taking the North Carolina Competency test in Mathematics. This is about the 9th or 10th time he has taken it, and if you would say a prayer that he would stay calm and that Jesus would give him recall of what he knows, we both would appreciate it. The test sounds easier than it is. In some ways it is more difficult than the GED math test, and covers everything from dealing with whole numbers to advanced algebra and geometry. He really tries, but has some learning differences and test anxiety, and he is a Christian, so I know he wouldn't mind you praying. ;) Thank you. If he passes, he will have earned his NC High School Diploma. He has passed everyother requirement but this one. :(
Thanks, and looking at the clock, I gotta run, or i will be late for his test. !!!

Microsoft/Food Joke
Instructions for Microsoft's New TV Dinner Product:
You must first remove the plastic cover. By doing so you agree to accept and honor Microsoft rights to all TV dinners. You may not give anyone else a bite of your dinner (which would constitute an infringement of Microsoft's rights). You may, however, let others smell and look at your dinner and are encouraged to tell them how good it is.
If you have a PC microwave oven, insert the dinner into the oven. Set the oven using these keystrokes:
mstv.dinn.//08.5min@50%heat
Then enter:
ms//start.cook_dindin/yummy\|/yum~yum:-)gohot#cookme.
If you have a Macintosh microwave oven, insert the dinner and press start. The oven will set itself and cook the dinner.
If you have a Unix microwave oven, insert the dinner, enter the ingredients of the dinner found on the package label, the weight of the dinner, and the desired level of cooking and press start. The oven will calculate the time and heat and cook the dinner exactly to your specification.
Be forewarned that Microsoft dinners may crash, in which case your oven must be restarted. This is a simple procedure. Remove the dinner from the oven and enter:
ms.nodarn.good/tryagain\again/again.crap
This process may have to be repeated. Try unplugging the microwave and then doing a cold reboot. If this doesn't work, contact your oven vendor. The oven itself is obviously on the blink.
Many users have reported that the dinner tray is far too big, larger than the dinner itself, having many useless compartments, most of which are empty. These are for future menu items. If the tray is too large to fit in your oven, you will need to upgrade your equipment.
Dinners are only available from registered outlets, and only the chicken variety is currently produced. If you want another variety, call Microsoft Help and they will explain that you really don't want another variety. Microsoft Chicken is all you really need. Microsoft has disclosed plans to discontinue all smaller versions of their chicken dinners. Future releases will only be in the larger family size. Excess chicken may be stored for future use, but must be saved only in Microsoft approved packaging.
Microsoft promises a dessert with every dinner after '98. However, that version has yet to be released. Users have permission to get thrilled in advance.
Microsoft dinners may be incompatible with other dinners in the freezer, causing your freezer to self-defrost. This is a feature, not a bug. Your freezer probably should have been defrosted anyway.
Good Morning: Hey Al I read you letter in the Eye yesterday adn allt eh other letters on the page re the campers at SBBC.
Hi everyone.
I will leave shortly to go to the church with Pat as I did last week. I won't have my laptop today so will do some reading. She is usually pretty exhausted when she finishes with her quilting group and I will be able to drive her home.
I had a good checkup yesterday. The readout showed there have been no instances where the rhytm of the heart got out of sync and that is what they want to see. They clarified for us that this device won't do anything to prevent a heart attack but if I have another heart attack and it causes the rhytm to go awry it will kick in. Also if the heart gets to a certain weakness, which is a factor of the passage of time, I have a sudden cardiac arrest situation it will kick in immediately. I am also participating in a research effort involving the device where some people have a certain test turned on and others won't. I am pretty sure that I am one of the ones where it was turned on but will probably never know for sure.
Janet, the reason you can't see the webcam is probably because you don't have Real Player on your computer. If I recall correctly there is a link on that site that Pat gave us from which you can get the necessary plug-in.
Beth, good to see you posting today.
Karmat, I hope your student did well on his math test. I understand what you are saying as my daughter has suffered from freezing up when taking tests. She often knows the material but at test time it seems to be gone.
Marilyn, I liked your Microsoft joke and a lot of it rings true of the MS products. I sent it to my friend.
Etta Sue, thanks for the devotional today. I especially liked the beginning little item as it is so true. None of our churches can be perfect since they are composed of sinners. Fortunately when we accept Jesus Christ his sacrafice covers our sins.
Liz, I am glad you shared your feelings with us but glad to see you were feeling a little more positive. I think that when we are not feeling good that things may be magnified and on reflection they may not be as bad as they seemed. Of course, sometimes they are.
Hope everyone has a good day and that our ailing members are feeling much better today. We have a truly beautiful day here as it is sunny and is to get into the mid 60's.
Good everning all. I've had a hectic few days - after saying how well my mother was doing, she had to be re-admitted to hospital on Tuesday. The doctor confirmed that her spine is fractured. It seems that her bones are very thin now and, of course, there is nothing much that can be done. I think all that she wants is to be released from hospital and come back home. If people could pray for that end it would be great.
Karma, I read your post too late to pray, but I do trust that all went well with the exam. I guess the Lord won't mind if I pray for the student anyway. It is encouraging to read that he is a Christian.
Marilyn, I couldn't understand the joke as I don't have the relevant plug-in, but for $100 I can get a plug-in that will allow me to read all kinds of jokes - and cook chicken in the microwave too ;)
Larry, it was good to read about your checkup going so well. I do trust that you will continue to be well.
God bless all - I hope Pat is feeling better.
Anthony.
Etta Sue: Your devotion today is very interesting. Especially the parts about Jesus expelling the demons. The other day, I had a site in here that told of the conversion of a famous author, Anne Rice, and all of her demons have been cast aside. It will be very interesting to see what the community libraries do with her books from now on - I am sure they won't have the prominent place that they have been while she wrote about witchcraft and all.
Larry: I am so happy to read that your last check-up went so well.
Anthony: You have my prayer for the end of pain for your mother and a safe return to her home.
We had a full day, our company (my cousin & husband) left about 4 A.M. and I went to a blood draw, then we were called to come in early to dentist & that dreadful bill was $454 for cleaning and new X-rays on a newer machine for both of us. I can't get over that horrible price. Luckily, we have no problems with our teeth. I am still trying not to be angry over that terrible bill from the dentist, who really spent two minutes each with us & we had assistant do the cleaning. >:( I don't like to have an angry face in here but that price is not even ethical. Then, we had flu shots, I got groceries and now home & truely spent.
Carol
Yes marilyn - we knew Kevin Hoover, the man that runs the Eye, had come by and nosed about a bit. And we knew he'd probably write a negative article. He did. He insists he didn't actually say some of the things we were correcting him for, but for practical purposes he did say them. Actually, we're down to only three campers now, but we've received a letter from the city demanding that they be evicted. So now we're going to try to deal with the city to give us a bit more time. These people who are there have nowhere to go. They need someplace to put their things down long enough for them to find jobs, etc. We don't want to be afoul of the city, but neither do we want to be harsh on the campters. Pray for us.
For those of you reading this who don't know what I'm talking about, our church has allowed a definitely limited number of homeless people to set up tents on the church property (a back lot) so that they might have time to get situated with jobs, etc.
Not many posts thus far today; everyone muct be busy.
I am waiting for Jeff and Diane to pick me up to go to the HS football game. Ulysses has lost only 1 game this year, and Hugoton is undefeated, so it should be a good game. Hope I am dressed warmly enough as I would hate to get sick again.
Anthony, I will pray your mom gets to come home right away. They are so much happier in their own homes. I hope she isn't in too much pain.
Not much news from my corner of the world---Karma, I hope your student did well on his test.
Carol, I see we were posting at the same time. I agree that the price charged you by the dentist is outrageous! There ought to be a limit how much they can rip us off! But I hope the rest of your day is better.
I have been rather scarce for a couple of days but I have been here several times reading, just didn't have nothing to say.
Anthony I am praying for your mother, I understand about her wanting to be at home rather than a hospital.
Al I saw the notice from the city int he paper too. Did you read the letter fromthe Episcopal Minister too.
Janet I am praying that you will not get sick again.
Pat how are you feeling are you getting better by now.
Carol my, my what a huge amount for the dentist to charge you. However, it seems that all the medical charges are going up and up and up.
Karma I prayedx for your student too.
Great devtotional this morning Etta Sue.
Good night all.
C U Manana
Sorry folks for the problems tonight with the site.
Somehow a file got corrupted and now after several hours, Michael has found the problem and fixed it. How I thank the Lord for this dear young fellow who helps us whenever he can.
Now, I'm absolutely worn out and just want to go to bed so since we have only a few posts today, I'm going to add tomorrow's date and we'll just continue on in today's topic.
Thanks for understanding folks.
Hi all!
Not sure how my student did on his test. I know how many he got right (or at least i think I do), but it is one of those screwball standardized mathematical statistical scoring scenarios. It will be mailed tomorrow and hopefully graded by the state next week some time. I so hope he passed it. He (and his mom) appreciate your prayers.
Gettin' late and I'm tired. Hope everyone had a good day, and glad ot see it's back up and running!
Well, I've had a time of it - first our CP wasn't letting me in, then my ISP was down for quite a while.
I'm taking off tomorrow and Monday. Will see my Atlanta children first part of the 4 days, and then back home to rest and recuperate.
God will provide - my plumbing finally quit working and, while we're away, the repairs will cost almost $5,000. We have to leave home to get the work done. OUCH! But, one does need to bathe and use water for other purposes, so it's necessary that this work be done. That was part of what I've been continuing to work past 65 for - to get the necessary renovations done to my home.
Well, I had planned to begin in January, but it seems the house had other plans in mind for me.
Y'all have a good weekend until I see you again.
Ruth Ann
Oh, Ruth Ann, I'm so sorry about your plumbing problems! I hate plumbing problems probably worse than anything else that goes wrong in the house---always such a mess, and so inconvenient. I pray our Father provides the needed funds for these repairs/replacements. (I know He will, 'cause you are one of His very favorite kids!)
It was fun to go to a high school football game again. I hadn't been to one in years. There was a huge crowd from both towns, and excitement was high---for a while. But Ulysses just steamrolled over poor Hugoton! We left when there were 2 minutes to go, and the score was 34 to 6. :-\ It would have been nice if it had been at least close. It got pretty cold, but I was dressed warmly and took along my stadium seat and a blanket, so I was okay.
Today the estate auction begins. Denise came by early to pick up Beth. Last night when I got in from the game, Beth called. She had fallen and couldn't get up off the floor. :( Let me tell you, it is not easy to pick up a person from the floor who is 6 inches taller than you and weighs the same amount you do! But I finally got her up onto her bed, and from there back into her wheelchair. So I am pretty concerned how she will get along down there all day.
In a few minutes I am going to get my blood drawn for my lipid profile again. This time I knew what to do and not to do, so I am expecting a much better report.
Pat, I'm sorry about the problems last night. I missed all that excitement; but I hope you got a good night's rest.
I got started on a painting yesterday, and am excited to be back doing what I love to do. Life interferes sometimes for a pretty long stretch.
See y'all later!
Oh Ruth Ann such a large expense and you have to leave home too. I will be praying for you that when it all ends the cost will not be that much.
Today is a super busy day for me, I am not going to work at Versal's this afternoon. After I leave Fay's at noon I will go to the grocer to buy some stuff to fix for the dinner after Gloria's Memorial tomorrow afternoon. I have to be in Blue Lake to get the children by 3pm and won't be back home until about 8:30 tonight.
Forest has soccer practice at 4:30 for 45 minutes then at 6:30 I am to take them to a Halloween carnival there in Blue Lake. Then back here to go to bed.
Slept real good last night but woke up with a headache. I hope it doesn't last all day and night.
TTYL
Hi all, glad to see the CP is back up and running. I didn't see the message last night so didn't know it was down. We have another beautiful day here but it is is cool 45 degrees but sunny. I don't have anything on the schedule other than the men's coffee at the senior center, which is over now. I think Pat and I will go to the library and then stop at the grocery store for a few items. It is getting time to stock up again.
Ruth Ann, unfortunately one of hte "joys" of home ownership is the maintenance and anymore that is usually major when we can't do the work ourselves. It sounds like your work involves major efforts but hope it can be accomplished quickly. Enjoy your time in Atlanta.
Karmat, I hope your student passed yesterday. I am sure he will be on pins and needles until her hears the results.
Pat, we are fortunate to have Michael to help us with the behind the scenes problems. I wouldn't have a clue as to what to do. Thanks Michael.
Anthony, I am sorry to read of the new problems for your mother. I am sure there must be a lot of pain involved. I do hope she will be able to come home.
Janet, I hope the team you were pulling for won the highschool football game last night. These games are big things in communities. The people around here are really into football, both high school and college. (I see your hometown team doesn't seem to have won--glad you didn't freeze.) I hope the estate sale goes well and that Beth is able to get through the day.
Al, I take it from your message that the city is giving you problems on allowing the folks to stay on your property. It is a shame that there are such "busybodies" that don't seem to have any concern for others. Obviously you would not want this to be a permanent situation. I hope it can be resolved in an acceptable manner.
Carol, I have never heard of such high cleaning and x-ray charges. In our last cleaning they used the digital x-rays but didn't raise the cost from the previous time, as far as I know. The bill for both Pat and I was something like $200. Fortunately I have some dental coverage in my health insurance that paid all but about $60 of that amount.
Marilyn, don't overdo today. That sounds like a very busy schedule.
Good morning. Yesterday when I tried to get on line I couldn't. I had had some problems with the computer and I thought it was me but now find out it was CP. Anyway it is good to be able to get in today.
Ruth Ann, I am really sorry about your problem. These things come up and can really interrupt our plans. I hope things will work out for you. >:(
1 Pet 4:11 If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen. (NIV)

I did find out that the accident that caused my power outtage was a half a mile east of me in my road. A farmer was leaving a field in his big truck loaded with shelled corn. A man driving east crossed the middle line and hit the truck, side-swiped it and went back on his side and struck a cement corner post AND broke the tall electrical pole. No one was hurt real bad...just the guy in the car was taken by car to the hospital for observations. But Ivalou and I went by there to go have Chinese and the power company was working on the pole and still was when we returned. Just glad we didn't have another power outtage. Do you know how long it takes to reset all these clocks?????????
I will be scarce tomorrow. I am going with Ivalou and her daughter's family to downtown Indy to a Band of America competition. Granddaughter Edie is in color guard for her high school in Ohio and is competing. We went last year and it was really amazing what all these kids can do while playing their instruments.
God Bless You All/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\

Etta Sue how many clocks do you have?
I have only to set the clock on my microwave, my two watches the bedroom clock radio, the wall clock in the living room, and my little digital clock that I have next to my computer that is also a cooking timer calender and has the temperature. Have to reset them on an Saturday night so I won't be late for church on Sunday morning.
Please pray that the pain pill and Ibuprofen that took for my headache will work soon and that I do not have to take any more today.
Gilbert just called and soccer practice has been canceled, so I will bring the kids back here to eat supper before I take them to their party. I do hope they do not get all sugared up and hyper from the candy. i will have to take it away from them so they do not eat too much.
TTYL
Wow Am I the last one to post here this morning. I am home from work, just wanted to check inhere to see the posts since I was last here. But no one has been here.
TTYL
OOPS! I did post, but only previewed and didn't post it! :-[
Marilyn, if you forget to reset your clocks, you won't be late to church; you will be one hour early!! (I did that once!)
Larry, I really didn't care which team won last night. Diane and Jeff were both raised here in Ulysses, and I still live here; but they live in Hugoton now. So we sat on the Hugoton side and rooted for them. (They lost.)
I have been cleaning house today. Trying to find homes or decide what to do with all those things that wind up on every flat surface. :P Been doing lots of flinging, so the trash is full! Ha. :clobber:
I'm supposed to go to a lingerie party tonight. That will be a new experience for me! 8)
I want to work on that painting I started yesterday, so I will say Adios!
Been humming this most of today...

Colossians 1:13
Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness,
and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
Author: William T. Sleeper, 1819-1904
Musician: George C. Stebbings, 1846-1945
Out of my bondage, sorrow, and night,
Jesus, I come, Jesus, I come;
Into Thy freedom, gladness, and light,
Jesus, I come to Thee;
Out of my sickness, into Thy health,
Out of my want and into Thy wealth,
Out of my sin and into Thyself,
Jesus, I come to Thee.
Out of my shameful failure and loss,
Jesus, I come, Jesus, I come;
Into the glorious gain of Thy cross,
Jesus, I come to Thee.
Out of earth's sorrows into Thy balm,
Out of life's storms and into Thy calm,
Out of distress to jubilant psalm,
Jesus, I come to Thee.
Out of unrest and arrogant pride,
Jesus, I come, Jesus, I come;
Into Thy blessed will to abide,
Jesus, I come to Thee.
Out of myself to dwell in Thy love,
Out of despair into raptures above,
Upward for aye on wings like a dove,
Jesus, I come to Thee.
Out of the fear and dread of the tomb,
Jesus, I come, Jesus, I come;
Into the joy and light of Thy throne,
Jesus, I come to Thee.
Out of the depths of ruin untold,
Into the peace of Thy sheltering fold,
Ever Thy glorious face to behold,
Jesus, I come to Thee.

Hello all. I've just been reading through the posts and found out that you all have to turn the clocks back on Saturday too - I didn't realise that. My computer clock turns back automatically so if I forget I'll be reminding when I log on.
I had news from the hospital that my mother should return home on Tuesday if everything goes to plan, so that's an answer to prayer.
Sorry for such a short note, but it is good to be able to come on here and have such good fellowship.
God bless and see y'all tomorrow.
Anthony.
Hello, everyone :)
Hi Nards. But please - don't talk so much!
Had our bi-monthly "Sunny Group" last night (small-group home fellowship). I'm praying it'll grow and have blessed fellowship.
I have a special friend over in England who is going through a very difficult time right now.
I'd request that you remember this friend in your prayers. This is a favouritie of this friend and they will be looking in here so please pray that they will feel the comfort of the Saviour in the coming days.

I can only imagine what it will be like,
When I walk by Your side
I can only imagine what my eyes will see,
When Your Face is before me!
I can only imagine. I can only imagine.
Refrain
Surrounded by Your Glory, what will my heart feel?
Will I dance for you, Jesus? Or in awe of You, be still?
Will I stand in Your presence, or to my knees will I fall?
Will I sing Hallelujah? Will I be able to speak at all?
I can only imagine! I can only imagine!
I can only imagine, when that day comes,
When I find myself standing in the Son.
I can only imagine, when all I will do,
Is forever, forever worship You!
I can only imagine! I can only imagine!

WELCOME TALJ!!
We're so glad to
have you join us here
at CP!
Thank you so much for the Welcome Pat! I look forward to getting to know you all ;)
I'm home from the party, which for me was a total waste of time. I couldn't even have the cookie, since I'm off sugar! There was only one thing in the catalog I liked, and it was too pricey for something to sleep in. :-[ Oh well................
Diane just called; she is in Elkhart on her way home, so I will head to Hugoton to pick up Beth. We should arrive at about the same time. Maybe I will talk to you again tomorrow.

Good Evening y-all I am back at home now from the party. We had a good time and the kids came back with all kinds of little cheap things. It was a fund raiser and the tickets were 20 for $5.00 some of the games we only 1 ticket and the others were 2 tickets. I am having fun spending the time with the kids.
C U Manana
Welcome indeed Talj - so glad to have you here. Tell us all about yourself and how you came to know our Lord.
Thanks for the devotional.
I am listening to 'I Can Only Imagine' and it is one of my fav. songs. Thanks Pat.
Rain and more rain today. Also quite cold now....for the island, that is! Squeek had to go for her yearly shots, so I dared to venture out and got my hair cut. Think that I enjoyed myself more than Squeek. She will probably be mad at all of us for days :-\
Not possible to stay in bed for more than a couple of hrs. as the pain gets too bad in my back. So spend most of the nights sitting and dozing in a chair. Have to stop the medication today as having severe side effects. Swelling, dizzy, etc. So will have to find a way to deal. Should not really be on it at all due to being a 'bleeder' and other stuff. Sure a puzzlement.... Ketorolac and Cycloberizaprine both are like playing a game of Russian Roulet!
Wendy & I stopped in at the Sally Anne to check out the records and I got a nice CD, Vestal & Friends.....Vestal Goodman. Surely love her singing and lots of great artists on the disk. Payed a large $2.50 ... my kind of shopping.
Sometimes I think God sends problems to show us specific things. I relate to the terrible pain Wendy has on a daily basis, but forgot how totally helpless she must feel at not being able to even wear socks of regular shoes due to not being able to put them on....Or push open a heavy door, or get clothes on easily, or......Got a real good taste of that when could not do so for days. So I actually am grateful to God for what has been happening. It is one thing to feel empathy, another to walk in the same shoes. The Bible teaches us that without suffering we can not know compassion. How true!
Time to go. Can't stay here to long.
God Bless.
Liz
I'm sitting here listening to the I Can Only Imagine midi. Someone did a wonderful job of playing. It's beautiful. That is one of my favorite songs too, Liz.
Thanks for posting it, Pat. I pray it blesses those who love to imagine and love Jesus so.
oops.....I see a call coming in. It's our Miss Jane Walker. Have to go call her back.
Well, it's that time of night!
It's time to lock the door and I open a new one where I hope that you on the west coast will continue to post till the Brits wake up and post in the morning.
