Morning Devotional...He took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. And their eyes were opened, and they knew Him. Luke 24:30-31
In any day we do a multitude of ordinary things. Great hours seldom come for us.
But for the Lord Jesus, the common and the usual became great when He was involved.
In this circumstance it was breaking bread at supper. In an ordinary moment, with ordinary bread, everything was changed. In that one act this couple's lives were transformed from gloom to glory!
They might have said with the Psalmist centuries before: "In His presence is fullness of joy"--an experience open to all of us today. He makes even the simple things sparkle with His joy.
Is His presence blessing us?
--Drew CraigIn the secret of His presence how my soul delights to hide!
Oh, how precious are the lessons which I learn at Jesus’ side!
Earthly cares can never vex me, neither trials lay me low;
For when Satan comes to tempt me, to the secret place I go,
To the secret place I go.
When my soul is faint and thirsty, ’neath the shadow of His wing
There is cool and pleasant shelter, and a fresh and crystal spring;
And my Savior rests beside me, as we hold communion sweet:
If I tried, I could not utter what He says when thus we meet,
What He says when thus we meet.
Only this I know: I tell Him all my doubts, my griefs and fears;
Oh, how patiently He listens! and my drooping soul He cheers:
Do you think He ne’er reproves me? What a false Friend He would be,
If He never, never told me of the sins which He must see,
Of the sins which He must see.
Would you like to know the sweetness of the secret of the Lord?
Go and hide beneath His shadow: this shall then be your reward;
And whene’er you leave the silence of that happy meeting place,
You must mind and bear the image of the Master in your face,
Of the Master in your face.
ElÂlen GoÂreh
The author of the words of this beauÂtiÂful hymn was a high-caste naÂtive of InÂdia. AfÂter her conÂverÂsion to ChristÂiÂanÂiÂty, it is said, she spent some years in the home of an EngÂlish clerÂgyÂman, and wrote the poÂem…there. It made its apÂpearÂance in a book of poÂems of which she was the auÂthor…The hymn was first sung by [George StebÂbins] as an ofÂferÂtoÂry in one of the churchÂes in BrookÂlyn, New York. It was oftÂen reÂpeatÂed as an ofÂferÂtoÂry, and on ocÂcaÂsions was sung in evanÂgelÂisÂtic serÂvicÂes. But it had its largÂer inÂtroÂductÂion to the pubÂlic durÂing the All-Winter MisÂsion conÂductÂed by Mr. MooÂdy and myÂself in LonÂdon in the winÂter of 1883-84, when I sang it freÂquentÂly, as did Mr. StebÂbins, who spent sevÂerÂal months asÂsistÂing in the misÂsion. It was alÂso oftÂen sung by Miss BeauÂcham, daughÂter of the late LaÂdy BeauÂcham and since the wife of ColÂonel DruÂry-Lowe, one of the heÂroes of the InÂdiÂan MuÂtiÂny, and unÂcle of Lord CurÂzon, ViÂceÂroy and GovÂerÂnor-GenÂerÂal of InÂdia. The hymn at once came inÂto genÂerÂal faÂvor, and the deepÂly spirÂiÂtuÂal tone of the words brought blessÂing to maÂny. The song was afÂterÂwards pubÂlished in “GosÂpel Hymns,†and in “Sacred Songs and Solos.†VeÂry soon it found its way inÂto all parts of the world. Dr. HudÂson TayÂlor, head of the great ChiÂna InÂland MisÂsion, statÂed at NorthÂfield [MassÂaÂchuÂsetts] that it was the faÂvoÂrite hymn of his misÂsionÂarÂies.
The winÂter of 1890-91 Mr. and Mrs. StebÂbins spent in InÂdia. While viÂsitÂing the ciÂty of AlÂlaÂhaÂbad, the home of Miss GoÂreh, Mr. StebÂbins sought her out and made her acÂquaintÂance. He found her enÂgaged in misÂsion work among the woÂmen of InÂdia, a moÂdest, deÂvotÂed ChristÂian, held in high esÂteem by misÂsionÂarÂies of all deÂnomÂinÂaÂtions and by all who knew her. Thus the two singÂers whose names had beÂcome asÂsoÂciÂatÂed in ChristÂian song met each otherâ€"one from the far East, and one from beÂyond far WestÂern seasâ€"both inÂspired by the same Lord, in the secÂret of whose preÂsence they long since came to abide.
Pat thank-you. That was a beautiful start to what has begun as another very cold and rainy day here in Birmigham. I have put a marker in my "Sacred Songs and Solos."
I can't stop on as I am expecting Charlie the Scooter man to bring my little Rascal home. He should have changed the batteries and serviced her yesterday but there was a problem.....not with the scooter.....When I phoned the workshop to inquire why the half hour which he said he would take was stretching out to the whole day, Sue the receptionist told me she was sorry, Charlie had put ordinary oil in his diesel car by mistake and was having to sort the mess out. Gosh!!!
Ria. Hello dear, when you call in. Lovely to see you back. :-*
God Bless all.

But today it is 4*C but this morning it was first a little bit foggy and now it is sunny very lovely.
But the weather in Holland is very variable.
        BUT NEVER VARIABLE IS OUR GOD.
God is the same today as yesterday.
He has given us His Spirit to guide us on our journey.
He ask for our faith and trust, our willingness to wait for His timing,
and our readiness to go at His command.
Psalm 92:4
For You make me glad by Your deeds, o Lord;
I sing for joy at the works of Your hands.

"Red sky in the morning, shepherd's warning.
Red sky at night, shepherd's delight."
This is a very old saying indeed. Â Handed down throughout the ages.
My grandfather used to say this to me.
God bless Larry
Good morning, Pat.
Thanks for that great devotional. I have a busy day ahead but wanted to pop in and say hello.
I'm overwhelmed by everyone's warm welcomes.
Marilyn, I visited your website and browsed your pictures. Loved the Jesus pics and thanks for the large-sized welcome.
Pinkie, Thanks for the tip about enlarging the font.
Etta Sue - Love your graphics. especially the: "We're too blessed to be depressed."
Al - I only had time to read two of your psalms messages. They were great. I want to read all of them when I have some time.
Thanks again everyone. I know I'm going to learn a lot from you all.
Gwen
Good morning, friends,
Jenny, my grandma taught me the same rhyme, but she used the word "sailor" where you use the word "shepherd."
I wish y'all could see my two dogs. They are lying here at my feet with their sides touching - one is facing "south" and the other "north." And, when we travel with them, my golden retriever always chooses to face the rear of the vehicle.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading the comments this morning and even had a bit of time to read all the comments from yesterday as well.
I'm anxious to check out the new word game.
Y'all have a good day.
Ruth Ann
Jenny: I learned the poem as a sailor's warning. Isn't that funny?
Larry: It was O.K. - we travel so often that we don't even have a newspaper. We have a friend who had an implant and he is doing very well. It is a good answer for you. Conservative medical care is sometimes the best.
Beth: Terrific news and thanks for sharing your super news with all of us.
I tried the scrolling with Cntrl key and my page jumps all over the place. Must be doing something wrong. Carol

We also learned "Sailor's" warning here in Canada but when we lived in Northern Ireland, we heard "Shepherd's" warning. Time to get the sheep into the fold!
Jenny, is that hymn in "Sacred Songs and Solos"? I'm hunting for a good midi file for it.
Well, I have to hurry and get my Avon order finished and delivered to another house.
BUT I'll be back!
thank you for the devotional. Pat and or your added words Ria.
Pat Happy was never trained to a leash out in the desert, he never had to be on one until I moved here. The one time in the desert that he was on a leash for about a week he did very well. However that was during a time when he was injured and I couldn't let him just run loose. I am going to work on training him now, even though he is 6 years old from what I have read Border Collies never cease to learn new things. It is part of their nature. I have experimented with some different things geting him to do something for a treat. It is working fine. so today we will start with the new collar. It doesn't hurt him just make it uncomfortable if he pulls on the leash. As much as he like to run free I can not let him do that here.
Beth your news deserves a great big

Pinkie ~ Neat trick. Â I like that. Â Sometimes I can't read the small print and I have good eyes!!!
Beth ~ What great news that the steroids are working for you. Â Let's pray that you continue getting better and better.
Liz ~ So glad that Pinkie has helped you in reading the type. Â Have you thought about using WORD and then copying and pasting it to 'reply' to post?
Gwen ~ I clicked on your name and I love your email address!!! Â I also see you are from Arkansas...a beautiful state!!!
Ria ~ Good morning...well, it is afternoon for you. Â I love your little prayer. Â Without out God, there are no mornings. Â We are all busy and so come in and post whenever you can and wish. Â Just don't go away. Â We, across the pond, love seeing your name on a post.
Janet ~ Your funny reminded me of when I was working. Â I worked in a fun place...well, it was until a few month before I was downsized/laid off/retired. Â A couple of the girls would sing Happy Birthday in person, over the phone, even on the P.A. system....very off key!!!!! Â And I mean very off key. Â Some thought it was hilarious....some hated it. Â But it was all meant well. Â I wonder if they still sing off key???
Larry ~ I am glad that you are having the radioactive seed implants done instead of the external radiation. Â Sounds like your doctor knows what he is doing as well as the facility where he will be doing the procedure. Â But, truthfully, I think you being quiet after the procedure will be the hardest for you to do. Â You are an active man and that is good but there are times when we need to listen to the doctor and the man above!!!
I just wish the labs would discover the procedures to prevent the cancers as well as getting rid of the cancers. Â
Ruth Ann ~ I know when we have loss of sleep, it impairs everything we do. Â I am praying that the new meds will ease the pain in your leg and foot and allows you to have many great nights of rest!
Al ~ Good morning...at least, it is morning here. Â
Pat ~ The words association game was fun. Â I tried to answer before scrolling...I agreed sometimes...sometimes not.
Marilyn ~ You are a busy one. Â Just don't get too used to unemployment. Â It does run out!
Jenny ~ Is your Little Rascal home yet? Â I am sure that is just like any mode of transportation...when it is unavailable, you think of dozens of things to do and places to go. Â Right?
Carol ~ Hey, if you are ever traveling in or through Indiana, let me know. Â Would love to have a visit from you and Don.
Sonja ~ What was Chandraya's theme today at school?
It is cloudy and rainy today. Â Tonight is Small Groups. Â Jerry is coming over here and we will leave around 5 to stop at Tony and Charlene's house. Â I want to look at the pictures of the wedding on their computer and I am taking some stuff to preserve some flowers from some bouquets in the wedding. Â
<:))))><<~~<:))))><<~~<:))))><<~~<:))))><<~~<:))))

mmmm....coffee sounds so good right now, Pat!
<soni runs upstairs to make a pot>
Etta Sue, it is sports day. I didn't get a picture...she took to long eating breakfast. But maybe this afternoon.
Hi everyone. Busy place here this morning as while I was reading the new messages since yesterday there were four more postings.
Welcome Joyfulhagion to CP.
I will check out the new word game in a few minutes.
Not much to write about today. Did go to coffee and the "Y" and stopped at the store for a few items. Tonight is choir practice. I doubt that we will go to the church for Dinner and Vespers as Pat has been there all morning and I am sure she will be exhausted by the time she gets home. She went to help fold and prepare our monthly "Messenger" for mailing and then was going to baste one of her quilts with the assistance of one of her dear friends. She can put the tables together in one of the rooms at the church and it makes the basting much easier.
Hope everyone has a good day.
Good Evening Folks. Â teatime here in U.K.
Etta Sue.
You are right. Â My little girl is home and guess what...it's raining and blowiong a gale. Â yesterday was glorious and of course I couldnt go out as Charlie had taken her away. Â He usually does the work here.
Well it is still raining and very very cold here. Â I am calling in now as I shall have a book to read tonight and according to the Amazon review I shall not be able to put it down. Â It is "Elli" by Livia E. Bitton Jackson.
I am going to have a meal and curl up by the fire. Â Pushkin is in here with me. Â he's curled up asleep. Â Bless him!
See you all tomorrow.
Jenny .
Just to remind you about the saying of red at night, you can go all the way back to Jesus' day, for he said:
Matthew 16:2 He replied, "When evening comes, you say, 'It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,' 3and in the morning, 'Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.' You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.
Thanks for that, Skief--I was thinking about it, but didn't know the reference without going to my concordance. We also learned it as "sailor take warning....." Interesting to learn the differences between our countries. Similar, but different.
I just got home from a most busy day. I had an eye appointment at 8 this morning, and overslept! I woke at 10 till 8, so you can imagine how I scrambled to get dressed and get to town!! Whew! They dialated my eyes, and it hasn't completely worn off yet. I was really relieved to learn I have no sign of cataracts, but the difference in my vision from morning to later in the day is caused by differing pressure inside my eyes. I can live with it. He could make me yet another pair of glasses to wear in the morning, but I can just wait do do any reading until around 10 AM when they even out again.
Then I came home and got Beth, took her to the doctor. He was amazed at the improvement in her mobility and strength!! He did warn us it will likely be a temporary improvement, but we are thanking God for it while it does last! We had several other stops to make; pick up her lumbar cushion for her wheelchair, to Dollar General, to lunch, to the beauty shop for haircuts, to the medical supply place so they could adjust her brakes; to the grocery store. I'm beat! I think a cup of tea sound wonderful about now.
I'm off to make that cup of tea, then will be back to check the other threads.
Don't forget to click on the Google Ads!
Nita told me to keep reminding you. :-* ;)
What Google ads, Pat?
Gwen
Hi Gwen...
Up at the top of the page under the bank of buttons that say Home, Help, Gallery, Search, etc. do you see four Google Ads?
They are different on every page you go to as they are related to the content of the page.
We're trying to get some extra money to increase my bandwidth on the site for the photos.
I can't click on them as if I do, they take that much off anyway if it's from my I.P. adddress.
Let's sing!
Altogether now, 1, 2 and 3....

Music - Asa B. Everett, 1871
Sweetly, Lord, have we heard Thee calling,
Come, follow Me!
And we see where Thy footprints falling
Lead us to Thee.
Refrain
Footprints of Jesus,
That make the pathway glow;
We will follow the steps of Jesus
Where'er they go.
Though they lead o'er the cold, dark mountains,
Seeking His sheep;
Or along by Siloam's fountains,
Helping the weak.
Refrain
If they lead through the temple holy,
Preaching the Word;
Or in homes of the poor and lowly,
Serving the Lord.
Refrain
Then at last, when on high he sees us
Our journey done,
We will rest where the steps of Jesus
end at his throne.

We want you to feel welcome on this site! If you have any difficulties getting around, just click on my name and drop me a PM (Private Message).
Gwen - at the top of the page, just under the headers, there are links to various ads. If you click on them, Google pays Pat a few cents. If she gets enough clicks it helps pay the cost of Christian Photographers website. Otherwise, Pat has to pay for it herself.
Etta Sue I won't have time to get too used to unemployment. I am going back to work for Fay when she gets to come home. We will know more after Nov.2nd, her next Dr. appointment. I wouldn't just qwuite working for her. I will be with her until she goes to meet the Lord. It was a cancer that was removed from her colon, she said they told her that they got it all. I did go visit her today and she was so glad to see me.

I took one at 10:10 PM (well I guess it wouldn't have been AM) I was wishing I had a telescope for better viewing.
SAY..... I just noticed that I've become a "Full Member"
;D CONGRATULATIONS, ED!!!
You're now a
FULL MEMBER! ;D
Pat, I like the new game.
Beth and Janet - I'm so very thankful for the improvement you're seeing. I pray often for y'all.
Well, must go - will have a visit from some outside auditors at work tomorrow, so stayed until 9 pm trying to make certain everything was ready for them. It's scary, because I am having to face my first audit alone - would certainly feel better if one of my bosses was nearby, but they're all 3 in a big meeting that was scheduled months ago. So, the Lord and I will just have to "wing it" I suppose.
Y'all rest well this 3evening.
Ruth Ann
Let's look to our Father for another new day.
