Morning Devotional...October 31, 1517 is a day to remember.
We hardly look back to this date when the end of October rolls around. We are too consumed with Halloween to commemorate Reformation Day. Yet, however much we try, we cannot actually rewrite history. And as much as we may find it distasteful, the Reformation is an event that changed the historical landscape for all time.
A German monk by the name of Martin Luther was a central figure. He suffered terrible pains of conscience. No matter what he did, the inner pain remained. He paced back and forth in a little room in the monastery. He wore a path in the stone floor. He prayed. He read. He studied. He did penance. Nothing took away his deep sense of guilt before God.
Then a light dawned. "
The righteous man shall live by faith" (Romans 1:17, Habakkuk 2:4). Being right with God does not depend upon our good works. Being right with God depends on Christ's good works. We live through faith in Christ, His perfect life, and sacrificial death. Luther found freedom from oppressive guilt through faith in Christ.
This new found freedom was profound and refreshing. Luther protested against traditional teaching. He promoted reform. Protestantism was born. The Reformation began. The face of our world changed. October 31 is the anniversary.
It is Reformation Day.
From: Daily Wisdom (http://gci.gospelcom.net/dw/)A Mighty Fortress is Our God (http://christianphotographers.com/sounds/267.mid)
(Click to hear music)
A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing;
Our helper He, amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing:
For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe;
His craft and power are great, and, armed with cruel hate,
On earth is not his equal.
Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing;
Were not the right Man on our side, the Man of God's own choosing:
Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is He;
Lord Sabaoth, His Name, from age to age the same,
And He must win the battle.
And though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us,
We will not fear, for God hath willed His truth to triumph through us:
The Prince of Darkness grim, we tremble not for him;
His rage we can endure, for lo, his doom is sure,
One little word shall fell him.
That word above all earthly powers, no thanks to them, abideth;
The Spirit and the gifts are ours through Him Who with us sideth:
Let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also;
The body they may kill: God's truth abideth still,
His kingdom is forever.
Pat..........
WHEW, I beat you by 12 seconds. ;D
All Christians must surely know that "Martin Luther " was God ordained. What a wonderful awakening this man's life was for all of mankind. We've seen two autobiographies of his life. What a man of conviction he was.
Or did I beat you?? LOL
Pat........
Nope ;D My post is there ;) However, you did in fact close the door before I could read it as posted ;) ;)
Pat. Do men wear hats in Ontario. Not baseball caps, but men's hats? I just purchased a soft wool felt hat and I like wearing it. Ah, the neat thing about being an old duck I can wear anything I want.

Pat - A clear simple effective message. God made it simple, it is us who complicate it.
Jeanne Lee - Dear sis if I can help you in any way with Frontpage and WinXP then please get in touch. I use both regularly and I have no difficulty with either.
Rachelle - Sis, you will notice a huge difference in your photographs when you get your flat screen. It is far easier on the yes also when reading text. Hope you enjoy it.
Etta Sue - Good grief lass, you had me reaching for my dictionary last night with your VCR, ABC, CIA, FBI & MFI!!! Did you have alphabetti spaghetti for tea?
Tee Hee!!
Ria & Jenny - Please keep the rain down your way. It's blowing a gale here today but at least it is dry.
LOL
Pat, great message, so many, many people had no idea reformation day was anywhere near Halloween, let alone on the exact day! It's a wonderful reminder for us. And it's true, it's definitely a day that changed history for us. It's soldiers like Martin Luther that pioneered the way for us.
Good Morning Everyone...
I'm sitting here listening to this morning's hymn. What great words in that hymn. So often we sing in church and the words really don't sink in. We're thinking of what we're going to have for lunch when the service is over or whether we even turned the oven on! I know that I fall into this category so often.
Today, I have Sears' Repair men coming to check over my fridge that I bought last December. It's got a slab of ice in the bottom of the freezing compartment about an inch thick! And very often my food in the freezer is covered with a coating of frost that looks like a layer of snow. Someone said that this might be caused by a unit not level. So we'll see.
I don't feel level myself! I thought I was going to fall out of my bed in the night and I got up to get a drink of water and nearly fell over with dizziness. So instead of water, I took a drink of lemon juice and went back to bed. I'm still dizzy so I'm having a cup of hot black tea with lemon in it and I've just taken a gravol. Not sure what must have brought this on.
I'll be back. I'm going to go and let Geordie in (he's barking--must be a squirrel out there) and finish my tea.
We have an URGENT PRAYER REQUEST for our dear member, Diana_g.

Iain promise we hold the rain in Holland today
it is still raining here
I wish you all a good afternoon and evening but it is on this moment not so cold but dark and raining
it is 3.25PM in Holland
Bye LOL RIA
I agree with Jenny, Pat! Just back off a little - just a little. Give yourself a minute to relax occasionally - the world will go on! Now see here, Mum, do what you're told!
I agree, Pat SCOTT, you need to take it a little easier! WE love your taking care of all of us, but you need some care, too! Maybe you could have the "bug" that caused Jen to pass out? I do hope it is nothing that won't pass quickly.
Darrel and I are going to the nurse's office this morning to get flu and pneumonia shots. Ouch! :-\
Be back later!
RELAX PAT TODAY
Good morning.
Pat I didn't know that Oct. 31 was Reformation Day until I read it here on CP in the Halloween thread. I did know about Matrin Luther thought.
Now you get some rest today.

It is a beautiful day here, the sun is shining and only a few clouds here in McKinleyville, It may be different in Arcata, where Al lives. It is chilly but very nice.
Going to check out the prayer requests now.

Hi everyone. Pat, your devotional on Reformation makes me think of our former Interim Associate Pastor, who always gave the Reformation Sunday sermon. The reason for this is that he had a special robe, it was actually more like a cape, that looked like it came from Transavania and that you see on the evil counts or barons in the scary movies. It actually was the robe his grandfather or great grandfather had worn in Romainia, where he was a minister. It was a bit startling based on the robes usually worn today by our clergy but it gave him the perfect base for discussing the Reformation and its importance in his sermon. This same minister will be back with us on Sunday to preach a combined communion/dedication service as we close our annual stewardship drive.
Pat, I agree with the other that you must take care of yourself. We all worry about you and pray for you to have strength and well-being.
Rachelle, I do pray that today will be an easier day for you and the same for all who are facing difficulties with illness, pain or emotional stress for whatever reason.
Have work to do on our church webpage so better get busy. It is another beautiful day here in Georgia and I enjoy sitting at my desk and seeing the bright day. It is to be in the 70s again today. We have yet to have a touch of frost.
I worked on my web page a litle bit last night, making some corrections, deleting a couple of things and adding a "Contact Me" link for emails and prayer requests. Check it out.
I was really surprised to see over 2600 hits. 27 yesterday.
I had such a nice post & then the computer was knocked offline.
Pat: As far as being dizzy, please be sure that you are drinking enough water as dehydration is the first thing they think about in our higher altitude. Put your feet up!
Iaian: We have such a fast-paced culture that it is difficult to keep up with all of the new products out there and technology is interesting and convenient. Also, frustrating as today. So, I have to really think about Etta Sue's short letters and sometimes I don't know what they are either - she is a whiz!
Janet: I had the flu and pnuemonia shots last month and Don gets his flu shot through the VA on Monday.
On reformation - we certainly hear a lot about it since we are Lutheran members. We have also heard about the shortcoming of Martin Luther and he was human form also. I have not yet been to see the film but do believe in supporting anything religious that Hollywood puts out if it is appropriate and it seems that the film may be alright. It would be nice to send Hollywood a message that we are interested in good films about good people. What say you?
Carol
Ms Pat, >:(
When you make my eyes go down like this >:( then you know it is a big trouble.

Pat! Just chill ok?
The world will run without you for a day,
so chill out with your feet up and a nice Christian video, some cakes, yum!
and a Big cup of tea.
We dont want you getting overtired,
we love you too much to see you tired. :) :)
"Rest In The Lord
This word "rest" means "to be silent." We want our answers yesterday. And God is saying, "Hush! Rest in Me!" Friend, God isn't interested in time. He's interested in timing. He's never in a hurry. And He's never late. Waiting on the Lord is like waiting for the sun to rise. You can't hurry it. And you can't stop it."
Amen??
Isn't it wonderful that Jesus declared,"I am the WAY,
the TRUTH,
the LIFE.
What a great promise!
For without the way there is no going!
Without the truth there is no knowing!
Without the life there is no living!
But now, we know the way, and know where we are going.
We know the truth and cannot be deceived.
We know the Life and we are Living!
Really living!
Living in Him our Beloved.
What a joy it is to rest in His finished work.
Everything has been done, we are on our way to Heaven, be it soon or late, for He has completed the work that His Father gave Him to do.
Amen??

Hugs
Rachelle
Good Morning. I have sat down and started a post twice now and first the Realtor came to show my Condo a little early. Then she came back up to say the Lady is very interested and will contact her in about two hours. She looked like a nice lady, small like me and older, like me....So will leave the rest in Gods care.
The devotional was really interesting Pat and I confess to not thinking about The Reformation much the last few years. Good to be reminded about these things and enjoyed the comments from others.
Agree that you need to rest more as I was beginning to think you only took catnaps rather than have real sleep. Oh, thanks for posting my little pictures. I have not done much painting lately and anything worthwhile was sold long ago. Mostly do little pictures and plan to start getting serious again, when and if my Condo sells and I relocate. Will pay Amanda to give me lessons now as she is far superior as an artist.
Cold today and growing colder. -2C earlier and now about 10C. Judy B. can explain that to dear Ria.
Must go now as all atwitter about stuff. Will have to go back and read all the posts again as my mind seems to be more blank than usual. God Bless.
Iain and Carol ~ I read that you were confused with my alphabet soup post and I had forgotten what I was talking about....must have been interesting to me, even...NOT!!! So I went back to see. I said...
QuoteWhew! Another day of just now getting to post on NEM New Every Morning. First of all, I discovered why I am so tired lately!!! Well, the clock on my VCR Video Cassette Recorder in the living room was set for Daylight Savings and it went back an hour Sunday morn. Indiana is always EST Eastern StandardTime. So the VCR Video Cassette Recorder was CST Central Standard Time. BUT (the word 'but' in capitals ;))my bedroom clock was EST Eastern Standard Time. I noticed when I went to bed last night that I thought it was after 11 by the VCR Video Cassette Recorder. But when I went into the bedroom it was after 12. So for 4 nights I have missed an hour of sleep. My story and I am sticking to it.
Are you more confused now? I shall refrain from alphabet soup in the future. I know how confused I am when I get updates from my retirement company.
Seems that God is telling me to make different priorities. This morning my phone rang and it was a girl friend from high school. Wanted to know if I would like to go out for breakfast. Sure!!! So we met for breakfast. Just before parting and returning for home she said..."Now I feel better. Today is the third anniversary of Bob's death. " I feel blessed that she called me. I know how that is...been there, done that. Those anniversary are sometimes tough!
Then when I got home, Ivalou had called me. I called her back and she was pulling a Sonja on me. She was really enthused/jazzed. A friend brought her "The Purpose Driven Life". She glanced through it last night and knows that the book came to her at just the right time. Wow! The power of the words in this book is doing remarkable things for people. Giving them a purpose and knowing they are loved by God.
Anyway, here it is 1:30 p.m. in Indiana and I am just now posting on New Every Morning....no initials... :)
I am praying that everyone has a God Bless Day!!!

Pat...........
Some years ago I had an awful dizzy spell that knocked me for a loop and I was taken to emergency. My doctor at that time prescribed "Anti-Vert" which stops the dizziness. The same thing happened around a year ago and my doctor up here recommended "Anti-Vert", which no longer is in prescription form and you can buy it over the counter. It's called Meclizine Hydrochloride, chewable tablets 25 mg. (Antiemetic). The bottle also says: Prevents motion sickness. I'm not saying this is a cure, it only helps when you are having a dizzy spell. Now go and see your doctor
Chris...........
Amen to yoru last two posts.
Rachelle..........
Remember this about "Flat" screens. The warranty is much shorter. I believe two years. I have a friend who works at Staples and he recommended yesterday I not purchase one.

Iain..........
Ah...... the likes of Scottish wit. ;)
I just looked up and saw four stars. Hey, I'm one more than Patton. "I will NOT be denied my destiny". BTW, my granddaughter who recently graduated from West Point told us that Patton's statue is facing the Library because it took him five years to complete West Point, and his excuse was that "he couldn't find the library" ;)
Well you lovely song birds, you missed it yesterday. Let's try again........
I'll make it easier this time. Fill in the missing words to this hymn............
______A___WE___IN______"
What a Friend we Have in Jesus.
Yes
WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS
THAT SONG WE ALSO HAVE IN HOLLAND.
It is still raining here in Holland

It feels good to be back up!
Well, I go as I'm told to REST and what happens!? Our site goes down!!
LOL
Well, anyone new since April received an invitation in the past hour to our CP Yahoo site. This is a site that we created last February when our server wasn't available for quite awhile (maybe a week) and we met on Yahoo.
Since April we haven't needed it often with our new web hoster but it's just wonderful to have it available so that we can let you all know of a problem.
So, I do hope that you'll accept the invitation that I sent to you and get signed up on Yahoo and then there's nothing else to do. It's a list that is used seldom and so there's hardly any email to speak of but it's really good to be able to use it to let you know as soon as possible if there's a problem.

Hey, Etta Sue! Isn't Yahoo great to have? We're so fortunate to have that list!
I've invited everyone today who wasn't on it and I sure hope that they join so that they can be notified in case of a problem or be notified of a very quick announcement of some sort that we wish to get out to the membership.
Well! I was busy this afternoon, and didn't try to access CP during its down time. But I'm sure happy it's back UP! ;D
Darrel and I got a flu shot this morning, and a pneumonia shot this afternoon. Two Owees!! :( They were out of the Pneumonia vaccine this morning; got it in about 4:30 and called us to come back. So we did. I'm glad that's over!
I have been cold all day today, even with two jackets on inside the house! No time to acclimate when the temp goes from 80 to 40 overnight! BRRRRRR!!
See y'all later! :)
Home from work, I stopped at Safeway and bought a frozen New York style Cheesecake. Guess what I'm having for dinner. Yup the Whole thing.
[/glow]
I haven't had any for a looooong time.
Washed my car when I go here, it's chilly out there. My hands just about couldn't take the cold. Don't want a visit from Uncle Arthur---Ritis.
Gotta check the other folders here now.

mmmmm...Marilyn you going to share with the rest of us?
I am off to go watch some movies and order pizza. Have a good evening all!!
We have had a nice day today. At noon went to a park near here and had our little picnic, just Cornelia and me.
I am still feeling fine and gaining strength each day. This is the last week for the home nurse care. In about two weeks I go back to see the heart doctor.
I Jn 3:18-24
18 Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.
19 This then is how we know that we belong to the truth, and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence
20 whenever our hearts condemn us. For God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.
21 Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God
22 and receive from him anything we ask, because we obey his commands and do what pleases him.
23 And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us.
24 Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.

--- Papa John ;D <:))))><<

Papa John, it's so good to see you posting again. I'm glad to hear you seem to be gaining consistently. I'll continue praying for you though, for full recovery and strength. God bless you, Jen.
I would like to share the following excerpt from a Sermon entitled "Path Of Love" preached by Ray C. Stedman on the Scripture 1John3:18-24 quoted by Papa John.
Dwight L. Moody ( I am sure you all know the story of his life) had (in my opinion) nailed down the Gospel of Christ as well as anyone, it was; simply believe in Jesus Christ, know that Gods loves all His creation, and we should love each other. :) :)
This is a part of what Ray C. Stedman said in that Sermon.
"Years ago, in Virginia, I met an old man who was the rector of an Episcopal church. He had been converted in D. L. Moody's meetings in Cambridge, England. When Moody came to the center of English culture and education in Cambridge, the students were very much in rebellion against him. They felt he was a backwoodsy American who could not even speak the English language properly -- and he couldn't! They were affronted by the idea that this coarse, crude, vulgar American should be asked to speak to the cultured students of Cambridge. The man I met in Virginia was one of those students opposed to Moody. A band of them had agreed that, when the meeting began, they would break it up with catcalls, hooting, and mockery, and refuse to allow Moody to continue with his message. Sounds rather up to date, does it not? But when the meeting began, his associate, Ira Sankey, sang a beautiful number that greatly moved the hearts of those students. As soon as the song ended, Moody strode to the front of the platform and, in his characteristic blunt fashion began, "Young gentlemen, don't ever let anybody tell you that God don't love you, for he do." It arrested them. They were so startled by this ungrammatical beginning that they all paid attention. Again he came back to the theme and said, "Don't ever let anybody tell you that God don't love you, for he do." This student said that as he left the meeting that phrase ran again and again through his mind and he thought to himself, "Why do I fight a God who loves me? Why should I be in rebellion to such a God?" Later that day he sought out D. L. Moody, and Moody led him to Christ. As he told me that story, he looked back across the years to recall the time when he first came to realize the love of God."
Oh how I wish I could have heard D.L. Moody in person, but just reading about him is enough to crank up my motor.
Thanks Papa John for bringing us such a good passage.
Boots
Thanks so much,
Papa John for your good thoughts in here tonight.
And
Boots, my goodness, you were right on the mark getting that so quickly after
Papa John's thoughts. I so appreciated your input as well.
How about a nice hymn?
It's very quiet in here this evening so let's sing loudly!

THE OLD RUGGED CROSS (http://www.christianphotographers.com/sounds/theoldruggedcross.mid)
(Click to hear music)
On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
The emblem of suffering and shame;
And I love that old cross where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain.
Refrain
So I'll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.
O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,
Has a wondrous attraction for me;
For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above
To bear it to dark Calvary.
In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine,
A wondrous beauty I see,
For 'twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died,
To pardon and sanctify me.
To the old rugged cross I will ever be true;
Its shame and reproach gladly bear;
Then He'll call me some day to my home far away,
Where His glory forever I'll share.

WELL!!! I didn't get a yahoo notification ??? ::) In fact, I didn't even get the "notify of replies" for NEM but I found y'all anyway! :P
Today was the day for us to sing at the Nursing Home. Only four of us this time, but we were greeted as though we were a whole choir! :)
Last night our church had a Harvest Party in conjunction with Pastor Appreciation for our Pastor Ron and his daughter Sarah. Sunday is our First Sunday Potluck ... also Communion ... also we will be BURNING THE MORTGAGE on our church building! Add to that a special appreciation in honor of one of our board members who resigned recently. She has been "holding things together" here for almost 20 years ... with the coming and going of many pastors before Ron and Bev arrived about 8 years ago. She wears so many hats, and is involved in many activities, and her health is not good. It is right that she should be relieved of at least one of her responsibilities. Welcome CHAR!
We're so happy to be able to welcome you here!
you mean you guys don't like talking in letters instead of words. my friends and i can have a whole conversation and each word will be only 1-4 letters long. you type a lot quicker that way
it's easy after someone explains what they mean to you.
Lesson in Teen talk:
idk-i don't know
igs-i guess so
nup- nope or no
yup- yeah, yea, ya
sup- what's new or how are you
u-you
y-why
b-be
b/c- because
w/ or wit- with
wk- week
wknd- weekend
c- see
ur- your or you're
r- are
rnt- aren't
ttyl- talk to you later
lylas- love ya like a sister
lylab- love ya like a brother
the words aren't that hard to figure out just takes time patients and practice
Sarah
Iain, thanks for the offer of help with FrontPage. Trouble is, I don't even know what to ask! :o Every time I think - "Oh, yes! That's what I have to do" - it doesn't work. :'( I guess what I need is a good basic instruction book that I can follow step by step. The very meager manual just confuses me more and the "Help" doesn't answer what I need either. It's so much simpler to just write my own code. :-\
Pat, I have low blood sugar and get dizzy from that now and then. The great part of that is that something chocolate solves the problem. ;D (Of course, so does a piece of hard candy or anything sweet)
Not much going on here today. A nice mild dry day so Gene managed to get the leaves up from the lawns of some of his customers. If tomorrow's the same he'll probably be able to finish - at least until more leaves come down. :)
We did go to the Senior Center so he could turn in his mileage for this month and discovered that some of the seniors who were there for lunch were in costume. I had brought my camera, (hoping for pictures of the staff for the website) so I was able to get some of the costumes. I'll put those on the web, too, to show how they enjoy themselves there.

The foLlowing message was lost when the bottom fell out today.
We had a wonderful visit with our dear friend and retired pastor Ed Grable and his wife Joyce (The missionary from so. America). Vivian wrote on a piece of paper and handed it to Ed.
"Take GOD out of GOOD and what is left? Absolutely 'O'"
No God, no good. As He has told us: "All of our works are as filthy rags".
WELCOME CHAR

Boots.........
Your post reminds me of the pastor we had in Heron Montana who came from Arkansas. Boy does he have an accent, but his heart, knowledge, and love for the Lord are as big as he is. You down south folks know what I'm speaking of, don't Y'all?
We are glad you joined us.
The kids dropped by for treats. Forest had no costume on (Thank God) but Savannah was all dressed up like a witch and wouldn't even look at me, I didn't take her picture either.
So Far I have 27 photos to get off my camera. I checked the Airborne Express web site and my computer was in Fresno today and that is only hours from here, so It will probably be delivered on Monday.
I sure am going to be busy. Have to finish cleaning this one out before I pass it one to Bea's son, He is supposed to trade me a TV and Stereo System for the computer. I am so excited about the new computer and all the bells and whistles.
It has a CD-DVD burner, 80 gig hard drive. lots of other stuff too.
Rachelle there's one piece of Cheese cake left, will that be too many points or not. My New computer is coming from Dell too. I got a 3 year warranty and a 3 year accidental breakage insurance, in case I break it.
<karmat races Rachelle to the cheesecake>
Did you see the photos in our new challenge? That Chris is something else!

First come fiirst serve. Ya betta hurry up y-all.
Lee, you asked about men wearing hats. Some do here in our area and some don't. Jack always wore a hat like you're speaking of I think and then he went to a felt cap more like an Irish type of cap. It was nice on him. It's still in the cupboard here and when I get my scarf out and see it, I get warm fuzzies just remembering him wearing it.
Also, that's a good little phrase to remember that Vivian wrote out.
It was kind of quiet in here today as compared to some of our other days this week!
Now, here it is the first day of November and that's so hard to believe!
I'm going to bed with more lemon juice. I did rest as y'all told me to. If it's still like this tomorrow, I'll get to a walk in clinic and get checked out.
Now, it's time to lock this door and start another topic.
