Morning Devotional...

A Sobering Pattern Of History

The nations fall before you (Psalm 45:5, NLT).

Dear friends:

Will America fall into a predictable pattern of history, or rise above it, by God's grace?

Great empires before us have been reduced to rubble by the same identifiable forces that prevail in our country today.

In his powerful study, When Nations Die, Jim Nelson Black identifies ten factors that have appeared in great civilizations of the past and led to their decline and fall. In some cultures, Black observes, as few as three or four of these symptoms of social, cultural, and moral decline would be enough to bring a society to the point of imminent collapse. The list includes:

  1. Increase in lawlessness
  2. Loss of economic discipline
  3. Rising bureaucracy
  4. Decline in education
  5. Weakening of cultural foundations
  6. Loss of respect for traditions
  7. Increase in materialism
  8. Rise in immorality
  9. Decay of religious belief
10. Devaluing of human life

Tragically, according to Dr. Black, the United States is the first nation in history where all ten symptoms are present in one society at one time!

In his assessment of the risks to any society that tries to live without God, Charles Colson states: "You smell the decay, you smell the rotting flesh of Western civilization today, much like you would have smelled the decay in fourth- and fifth-century Rome."

Dr. Charles Stanley remarks, "Unless there is a revival, this nation is going to get worse and worse and worse."

This is echoed by Pastor John Hagee, who gives this warning, "America is history. It's over unless there is a broad, sweeping revival of righteousness."

God says, "They have rejected the law of the Lord of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel. On this account the anger of the Lord has burned against His people, and He has stretched out His hand against them and struck them down, and the mountains quaked; and their corpses lay like refuse in the middle of the streets. For all this His anger is not spent, but His hand is still stretched out" (Isaiah 5:24,25, NASB).

Notice God's warning of judgment, but also notice that because of His desire for mercy, "His hand is still stretched out."

What must we do to reach His outstretched hand of mercy?  This will be addressed in a future message.

Yours for fulfilling the Great Commission
each year until our Lord returns,

Bill Bright

Yes that is a sobering thought Janet.

You need to do the balance with baby steps.  I know there is so much to do.  Take breaks and sit for a few minutes every hour.  Take care.

I have had an enjoyable day.  I have sewn a denim skirt for the wedding we are going to on the 22nd.  It is finished, now for the shirt, it will be as close to matching John's as possible.  A friend has an embroidery machine.  (Oh how I would love on of those, but at 4000 for a used machine it is out of the question.  One of the things I am to be content about.)  With Joanne owning one and having a lot of skill it works out for both of us.  This wedding is to be of a western theme, complete with bales of hay.  It will be a lot of fun and very relaxed.

Well it is late and I must get going and get some rest.

Love to all
Judy

Awesome Devotional, Janet! All someone has to do is read the newspaper or turn on the news to see all of this happening...... :-[

Larry Hanna

Janet, I read your devotional for today and for each of the 10 items mentioned I had to think that it is certainly a description of the United Stated and probably some of you in other countries can relate as well.  Glad to hear you have a retreat coming up so you will be forced to do some relaxing and slowing down a bit.  Hope your retreat will be both spiritually and physically refreshing for you.

JudyB, a western theme is an interesting one for a wedding.  My son and his wife probably had the strangest wedding (or at least one of them) and one which totally shocked his parents (us).  This was to be a wedding on our screened in back porch with just a judge to preside and another couple of witnesses and Pat and I as guests and it was on halloween.  When they arrived they were in halloween makeup and when the judge arrived she was wearing a witch's hat.  They had gone to a makeup professional and had their faces made up.  It was quite unbelievable.  I must say I didn't really give the marriage much of a chance but it has lasted much longer than any of his other two marriages.  I tried to find the one picture we have to show you but can't.

Marilyn, very nice of your neighbor to bring you a meal and a nice gesture on your part to return the dishes with something in them.  It sounds like you have some good neighbors.

Liz, isn't it disgusting to buy a new product and not even have it work.  Guess in this case it saved your money as you can return and have repaired your iron.

I have a long list of things I want to get done here on the computer today and have to take my daughter to a class she has at 4 pm back at her school.  Pat took her this morning and then they were planning on going to Walmart.

Papa John, good to see you home.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Marilyn

Good Morning, Thank you Janet for the devotional today. I agree that all you have to do is to look at the news or the newspaper and see all this happening in our country today.

I have had what most of you would think is a very strange breakfast. I had sliced Avocado and tomato and a Quesadilla with Pepper Jack cheese and a glass of milk. I was going to have Oatmeal with walnuts but changed my mind.

Yes Larry I think I have some very nice neighbors. Two of them I knew before I moved here so that makes it a lot easier to be acquainted with them. The three of us are all caregivers, and one is is my Tai Chi class and is the one who told me about this place coming up for rent.

Pat are your aches and pains leaving you. You must be more careful one your walkabouts. Our trees haven't stared to turn yet. Although I did see some out off the freeway.

On my last walkabout with Happy I discover that just around the corner there is a Habitat for Humanity community going to be built. It is a cul de sac and the street and sidewalks are in but the building hasn't started yet.

Chilly here this morning  the sun is out for now but more rain is expected.

Joy

I am a child of God, created to express the gladness of my soul.
The joy of God is an inherent part of who I am. I tap into this joy by remembering that I am a child of God.

God's kingdom is for all. As children of God, we have joy as a gift of this kingdom. The joy of the Lord is mine to experience when I change my perspective from distractions in the outer world to the rich rewards of expressing the gladness of my soul.

This joy courses in a never-ending stream throughout my being, and I allow it to come forth in gratitude for all the blessings I have. I feel God's joy when I look around me and see the beauty of nature as it goes through its natural cycles.

Most of all, I feel joyful because I am a child of God, created to release the joy within me out into the very atmosphere around me.

Hi guys, Thank you for checking out my new website!  I'm really excited about it.  I sincerely think that god can use me to spread His word in alot of different ways through the site.  I would like to put links to all of the Christian photographers, ministries, etc etc that I can.  If you have a website or a special favorite site, please e-mail it to me at jona@onlineprintshop.com.  I would love to share it with everyone.
Hmmm?  I'm fairly certain that printing isn't spelled with a "y" in it.
Mr. Moak, I'm not sure, but you must be spelling it in a different dialect?   I guess it's kind of like colour in stead of color.   I'll have to leave all of that to my nephew who is at NCSU in Greensboro studying to become a linguist.
I do have resources for books.  There is one company that I rep for who are very nice and do beautiful work.  Their prices are very reasonable and they also have specials that they run from time to time.  just let me know when you're ready and I will get you a quote.

Thanks again for taking the time to check out my site.  God is awesome and He is truly blessing me and my family through this endeavor.  There's alot of work left to do on it but it'll get there.  Occasionally I have to come up for air.  It can easily consume all of your time!

Take care everyone and may God bless you all richly!!
God is good all the time!!!

As I read yesterdays paper this morning over breakfast, I found out that Judy's (my classmate) father passed away.  I called her and will be going to the visiting this evening and maybe the funeral tomorrow.

Last evening at Clark Small Group was great.  We had 11 there.  If we are all there the next time, there should be 12 since one is coming back from a mission trip to Africa this week.  Papa John ~ James is my favorite book....a blueprint for our daily lives.

I have the yard mowed one more time.  The grass is getting brown but the weeds are still growing.  Not much Fall looking here except that soy bean and corn fields are being harvested.  The trees aren't showing much color yet.

I stopped to see Gloria after work today. I had to  wear a gown and gloves. She is contagious now. I spoke with her doctor and he told me that she has some kind of Bacteria growing in he blood and they don't know what it is yet. She is still sedated/Ventilator and on heavy pain meds (Dilaudid), antibiotics and other stuff. All kinds of IV bags hanging there.
She looked like her eyes were part way open but she didn't respond to anything I said to her.

Anyway, I also stopped to get a new Hummingbird feeder and some bird seed for the other feeder. Beautiful sunshine today and it is a little warm. I opened some windows to air the house out.

Something weird happened the night the kids spent the night here. the smoke detector went off I got up and check the house nothing, went back to be and it started to go off again so I got up and took the battery out. What would make it do that?  :-\

Al Moak

Marilyn - I've had them do that before.  They are very sensitive - a tiny bit of dust or dirt in the detector can make them go off.  Take it down, take it to the gas station, and use the air hose to blow it out.  Should be ok then.

Pat

Good idea, Al.  I've had it happen too.  I'll try that.

So, has anyone been taking photos today?

A wonderful surprise we had today.  Daughter Karen, brought over frozen dinners - enough for 3 weeks!
She drove 3 hours - from her home to ours, to do this act of kindness.

Reminder Pat - Norm's baptism is Oct 23rd 6:pm, - Calvary Bapt Church, Arkell Rd.   Hope you will be able to come!

(wouldn't Jack be thrilled to know this!!)

Judy how wonderful to "see" you today. How are you feeling. That was very nice of your daughter Karen.

I noticed that they didn't even clean it off before I moved in there is a dark layer of dust on the top of it.

Hey Pat how are you  doing? Still sore?

Janet

I have put in another long and very hard day.  Pat came at 1:00 to help me (I had been at it all morning already) and we did get the kitchen done.  Two full days two of us worked on that kitchen!  One thing for sure, Beth doesn't have nearly as much stuff in her cabinets and drawers as she had before.  A lot of those things, she hadn't used in years; some, never!  So they got bagged up and taken to the garage.  We also put some of the things we thought she might use into plastic bags and put them back in the cabinets.  (After a thorough cleaning, of course.) :P

Tomorrow we will go to Dodge City to pick Beth up.  Her plane is to arrive at noon.  Darrel is working, so Pat will go with me, and she wants to go to Wal-Mart, so we will do that.  Then home in time for church, and besides that, we have to pack for the retreat!  :)

I'm much too tired to address everyone individually tonight, please forgive.  I will do better when I get some rest.  :-[

I wish you all a wonderful evening and a restful night's sleep.  <3

Judy M  I am so glad that you are back. :D  I hope you got the blueberries, they are good this year, and scarce.  My friend had to go way north to get them, the lask of rain was a BIG factor in the scaricity. :o

Norm Congrats.   I am so pleased that you are getting baptized.  God is good and as you continue on your walk meditate on Phil.4: 8 - 9.  That is the key to peace. <3

Pat How are the aches and pains tonight.  I pray they will receed soon.

I took the yolk of the shirt I am making to match John's and my friend told me her puter is on the blink.  ::) Times like these I really wish I had an embroidery machine.  Well God knows so I will leave the embroidery up to His timing. :)

I had a troubling end of the trip to N. Bay.  I parked at Tim Hortons and picked up the last of the thread from the store I used to work at.  When I went too start the car there was no spark and although the engine turned over I could not  get it going.  :o Thankfully Joanne's Husband has CAA and he arranged for a tow to our home and I arrived safely home.   It can be distressing when this happens but I had this sence of peace that God was in control.  The outcome? I really don't know. :-\

John is heading home from the TN area today and tomorrow.  I wonder how he will get home?  ???  Again God is in control of that too.  We have a dear friend who lives almost next door to where he works and jeff is a mechanic.  Perhaps we will need to call on him to bring  John home.

It has been a wonderful day today.  Just like July weather.  I believe a record high for us up here 27*C or 80.6*F.  Such a good day, too nice to be cooped up inside.

Pat I really like the new smileys!

Well have a good night everyone.  God bless
Judy
