Morning Devotional...

Jesus Changges a Town
John 4:1-30  NLT

1Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard, "Jesus is baptizing and making more disciples than John" 2(though Jesus himself didn't baptize them--his disciples did). 3So he left Judea to return to Galilee.

4He had to go through Samaria on the way. 5Eventually he came to the Samaritan village of Sychar, near the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. 6Jacob's well was there; and Jesus, tired from the long alk, sat wearily beside the well about noontime. 7Soon a Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, "Please give me a drink." 8He was alone at the time because his disciples had gone into the village to buy some food.

9The woman was surprised, for Jews refuse to have anything to do with Samaritans. She said to Jesus, "You are a Jew, and I am a Samaritan woman. Why are you asking me for a drink?"

10Jesus replied, "If you only knew the gift God has for you and who I am, you would ask me, and I would give you living water."

11"But sir, you don't have a rope or a bucket," she said, "and this is a very deep well. Where would you get this living water? 12And besides, are you greater than our ancestor Jacob who gave us this well? How can you offer better water than he and his sons and his cattle enjoyed?"

13Jesus replied, "People soon become thirsty again after drinking this water. 14But the water I give them takes away thirst altogether. It becomes a perpetual spring within them, giving them eternal life."

15"Please, sir," the woman said, "give me some of that water! Then I'll never be thirsty again, and I won't have to come here to haul water."

16"Go and get your husband," Jesus told her.

17"I don't have a husband," the woman replied.

Jesus said, "You're right! You don't have a husband-- 18for you have had five husbands, and you aren't even married to the man you're living with now."

19"Sir," the woman said, "you must be a prophet. 20So tell me, why is it that you Jews insist that Jerusalem is the only place of worship, while we Samaritans claim it is here at Mount Gerizim, where our ancestors worshiped?"

21Jesus replied, "Believe me, the time is coming when it will no longer matter whether you worship the Father here or in Jerusalem. 22You Samaritans know so little about the one you worship, while we Jews know all about him, for salvation comes through the Jews. 23But the time is coming and is already here when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for anyone who will worship him that way. 24For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth."

25The woman said, "I know the Messiah will come--the one who is called Christ. When he comes, he will explain everything to us."

26Then Jesus told her, "I am the Messiah!"

27Just then his disciples arrived. They were astonished to find him talking to a woman, but none of them asked him why he was doing it or what they had been discussing. 28The woman left her water jar beside the well and went back to the village and told everyone, 29"Come and meet a man who told me everything I ever did! Can this be the Messiah?" 30So the people came streaming from the village to see him.

In what ways has Jesus affected your town??

The Samaritan woman immediately shared her experience with others.  Despite her reputation, many took her invitation and came out to meet Jesus.
Perhaps there are sins in your past of which you're ashamed.  But Christ is changing you.  As people see thse changes, they become curious.  Use these opportunities to introdude them to Christ.

Today is a day that I didn't do a thing that I had planned.

I made some movies with pictures that I had on floppies and then saving the movie and the originals on CD's.  I have probably 200 floppies full of pictures so I have a lot of winter weather projects to do.

Then Tony came.  They got me a battery tender for my lawn mower.  You put the connectors on the battery terminals and plug this thing into electric and it is to keep your batter charged all winter.  Now to remember to change it every other week for the two mowers.

Then my SIL called and asked if I wanted to play 'Hand and Foot'...a card game.  Yes, so I went over there with out supper.  Another couple were there and Ivalou so we played 6 handed.  WE WON!!  Oh, yes!  Barb had some pumpkin dessert for my supper!

Now I am home and ready to hit the sack....long day!!

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  I am writing this morning from the college.  I brought my daughter here and either my wife or I will have to do this at least until my daughter's court date on November 9th.  I hope she will get her license back at that time.  The lounge area has four computers with Internet connections and they aren't used very much (two girls were playing solitaire when I came in but left in a few minutes probably to attend their class.)

We have had a wonderful rain during the night and it continues to rain this morning.  Think it is to continue for the next couple of days, at least part time.  This should restore the moisture to the soil as we haven't had rain for about a month.

Janet, glad you have Beth home.  Sorry to read of her problems but hopefully the medication will help her feel better.  It is good that she has a return trip to New York to look forward to as it is sometimes hope that keeps us going.  Enjoy your retreat and rest, rest, rest!

Etta Sue, we play Hand and Foot with Pat's aunt and uncle.  It is a nice adjustment to the old Canasta card game, which I always found pretty boring as it was so one-sided.  Glad you were able to play and we need some days where we don't do what we had planned.  That is the beauty of being retired as we can usually do it "tomorrow"!

Ruthie, I am sure you all don't look forward to all the snow that you get in Canada.  I guess that makes the beautiful days that much more enjoyable.

Sue, certainly hope your new job lead results in an interview for you.

Liz, I have also noticed that the days are getting much shorter here.  Guess we will soon have the seasonal DST time change. I hope something works out on the job front for Amanda shortly.  At least she has some prospects if she has the interviews.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Marilyn

Good Morning. Thank Etta sue for the devotional. The story of the the samaritan woman always reminds me of myself. I was married 5 times and lived with a man who was not my husband when I got saved.  I ended tha trelationship and began my relationship with Jesus at that time. Praise the Lord for saving my life.

Janet I am so sorry to hear of Beth's additional health problems. Those infections are so painful.

Liz I am praying for  amanda.

Larry is is getting dark earlier here on the west coast too. I would have liked to walk to Bible study last night but I didn't want to walk home in the dark. I am sure it would be safe, But you never know.

Today I am taking Versal to the hospital to get another epidural shot in her back this is her second one. I hope that this on really does the trick and stops the pain for her so she can go to church again.

Welcome to Pinkwaterlily

Good morning all!

The kids are playing on the bed.  Travis is pretending talk on a cell phone and Kristi is kicking him.  hehehe.  Life is never dull, ya know.

It is a dreary rainy day today, so we will probably stay in as much as possible.

Some exciting news -- Back in August, I had a booth selling some prints at the "2nd Annual 'Mater Fest"  (no lie, that is the name).  Unbeknownst to me, a reporter for the Asheville-Citizen Times newspaper picked up one of my cards.  Apparently, every Thursday, they do an article in the Haywood County section about a Haywood County artist, and I get to be featured.  Woohoo.  She interviewed me over the phone, and I am sending her a picture of me.  (yuck).

I have been reading the past couple of days, but i dont' think I've responded.  Sorry about that.  Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays find me running around like a beheaded chicken.

We have our vacation plans.  We leave on the 17th to go up through the Shenandoah Valley to Lexington, VA.  there we will visit Natural Bridge and some of the sights.  Then, on Wednesday, we will drive west through Charleston, WV to Lexington, KY.  (it is by coincedence that we are staying in Lexingtons :) ).  Then home on Friday.

YEA!!

Hopefully, I'll be back later.  Someone needs a new diaper!
;P

Janet

Hey, Y'all!  Like Karma, I am rushing through to say hello.  I've been working furiously since 6:30, and I think I am ready to leave.  I had to go out to Beth's and get things a little more comfortable for her---more pillows, more covers, towels where she can reach them, get her some milk, etc.  Karma, at least I don't have to change diapers!  But I have certainly changed a LOT of them in my life!

Darrel and Lance have gone for parts to finish up Beth's shower; they don't have the drain connected as yet.  Then everything else can wait until I get home.  I hope I can just block it out of my mind while I am away; I am really weary of the whole job. :uglystupid:

Larry, I do hope your daughter gets her license back right away after her court date.  Taking care of a grown child is pretty hard on parents of our age.  I certainly can empathize with you.

Etta Sue, wish I could do as I want......and some day I will be able to.  In the meantime I will keep on putting out the fires! :clobber:

Papa John, glad you enjoyed your trip, and so good to have you back.

Hey, Miss Pat---how are you?  Take care of yourself and we will chat when I get back home.  I want to hear all about that new deck you are getting!

Gotta run, the "other Pat" is picking me up shortly!

Hi folks!

Clive on Photography Cafe moved the little spot to the top for y'all to type in for the Shoutbox.  I sure didn't like it at the bottom.  I'm so jazzed to have it up at the top now!

Hope Janet has a good time away.

I have a crazy headache.  Judy just phoned me and right away after I said, "Hello", she said, "What's the matter?" so guess it showed in that one word!  I'm going to maybe go and lie down for a few minutes and see if that helps.

I'll be back.

Get those autumn colours posted in the gallery.

Thanks for todays devotion, Etta Sue.  Interesting in the message about changing a town.

Larry:  My best wishes for your son to get the right job and all of this goes well for your daughter as well.  We really tend to agonize more about our children than ourselves.  There are two quilt shops in Estes but I have never gone to the one with Amish quilts.  Your  Pat would have really enjoyed the historic house in Grand Lake where I toured, by myself as Don was snoozing on a bench in the sun.  They had over 80 antique quilts throughout the   home and I wish that I had taken my camera.  The kitchen had marvelous things including an old krumkake iron - now that is a Norwegian dessert that few people know of and I was able to tell some other visitors.  The quilts were in wonderful shape and very bright colors for many were over 100 years old.

Janet:  Always rushing!  It is good that Beth got to her doctor right away - and now, she is planning another trip?  Wow!  She is some determined gal!  Bet she liked her fresh new place.  Take care.

Pat:  I haven't read back on everything - just wanted to tell you that I am hoping you are recuperated from your hike and all is well.

Carol

Nice devotional, Etta Sue.  That is one wild bird.....don't let the cats know... ::)

I just stopped in to read and will try to post later.  If there is anything much to say, that is!  Not certain how the day is going at the moment.

Thanks, Marilyn.

Have a nice trip Janet and a good holiday K. & N.  Can't think of people who need a rest as badly as you folks.  Unless it's Larry, Pat, etc. etc.  Come to think of it.... ^-^

God Bless,

Liz

Goodness, did my morning post break the site?  Not another post since and it is now 4PM here on the island.

A very wet island.  But the sun certainly did shine on Amanda today.  She has a nice job starting on Tues. as a cashier for one of the local large grocery stores.  It is only a short drive from here and may work into a full time position.  Will be regular part-time at first.  Also did well at another interview and may get some hours there as well.  It is a smaller local store that is quite near.  This may give her the opportunity of always having work when going to college in the fall.  Learning to be a cashier will be a big plus.....

God is truly wonderful and certainly listens to our prayers.  Like with Marilyn's house, it was just necessary to wait for the right door to open.  Many lessons can be learned from waiting for answers to prayers.  Like patience and trust.  I am not always in tune with that.....

Read a nice little poem that might please someone:

Blessings

I knelt to pray when day was done
And prayed, "O Lord, bless everyone,
Lift from each saddened heart the pain
And let the sick be well again."

And then I woke another day
And carelessly went on my way,
The whole day long I did not try
To wipe a tear from any eye.
I did not try to share the load
Of any brother on the road.

I did not even go to see
The sick man just next door to me.
Yet once again when day was done
I prayed, "O Lord, bless everyone."

But as I prayed, into my ear
There came a voice that whispered clear,
"Pause now, my son, before you pray.
Whom have you tried to bless today?

Gods sweetest blessing always go
By hands that serve him here below."
And then I hid my face and cried,
"Forgive me, God, I have not tried,
But let me live another day
And I will live the way I pray."

I must go and find Misty and bring her in from the cold rain.  Had her on my lap last night and Squeek came down, got very hurt and I spent ages comforting her, after Misty was back in the garage.  Squeek is so afraid she will be replaced.....must have had a terrible time in her former home.  Think this is going to be a real challenge this winter.  I want to bring Misty in for short periods as she loves to sit on my lap.   :idiot:

Hope others will come and post now.  Lonely here.....

God Bless,

Liz

I don't have much else to say but wanted to read the posting for today.   I did go to Calvin Cove and we sang a lot of the old songs like "Singing in the Rain", "Oh Suzanna" and "Home on the Range".  They seemed to enjoy the singing.  I know I did enjoy playing and singing with them.  Then I went to Wal-Mart for a few items that Pat needed.

Pat, I hope your headache is much better this evening.  Having been a chronic sufferer for many years (but no more) I can certainly feel for you.

Karmat, that is nice to be written up as a local artist.  I am sure it will be a very interesting article and you will have to share it with us when it is printed.  Does that paper have a website where they place their articles after the paper is printed?

Carol, my wife would have loved to see those quilts.  Have you ever visited the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, Kentucky.  We went there a few years ago and it is quite a place.  How about the big quilt show held in Houston?  Pat has never been to that show.

Marilyn, I certainly hope the shot relieves the pain for Versal.  It is very wearing to be in pain all the time.

I am going to spend the evening watching the Georgia Tech/North Carolina State football game and also the Braves/Astros Playoff game.  The Braves really need to win tonight.

Marilyn

I am going to upload the photos from my camera to the computer and resize them for the Autumn Colours challenge I need to email two other photos to my Pastor.

Al, and Marbeth came by for  some tea and a nice visit to see my house and pet my dogs. Bebe surprised all of us by letting Marbeth pet her and licking Al's hand. That is unusual for her to do. she is soooooo shy.
