Morning Devotional...

A New Purpose

Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 1 Corinthians 3:16

Suddenly life changed for Ann.  She felt movement and knew without a doubt there was a new life growing inside her.  Everything she did had a new purpose.  She exercised to keep her body strong--but only the exercises the doctor said were safe for her unborn child.  She ate foods she was supposed to eat and avoided those not healthy for her growing fetus.  She prayed, thought, chatted with, and cared for this new life growing within her because her purpose was to be the best mother she could be.  She wanted her baby to have every opportunity to grow healthy and strong as he developed within her.

When we cooperate with God's Spirit, who dwells within us,  we are no longer interested in our own desires.  Our new purpose is to serve and honor God.  He dwells within a Christain as surely as a new babe dwells within his expectant mother.

Lord, when I accepted You into my life,
You ogave me a new purpose.
Thank You for reminding me of that purpose.

Hey, hey, hey .... I'm right behind you, SONI!  Thanks for the devotional thoughts for the day.

I have been rather housebound lately so I am looking forward to getting out for a while today.  A friend has asked me to lunch and spend a few hours "out and about" today.  It will be fun.

I'll be back ... and I know y'all will be too!  Y'all have a great day for yourselves and remember that this is the day the Lord has made ... let's all rejoice and be glad in it.

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Skief

A glorious saturday morning here in Minsk.  I'll be heading out to the airport in a couple of hours to pick up a pastor who is coming in from the states for a church dedication.  Hopefully I'll be able to get some good pictures of the dedication tomorrow.  He's also bringing us a ton of stuff, so it will be a little like Christmas here.

Pinkie:  I'm an Assembly of God Missionary from the states here in Belarus (actually the only A/G missionary here).  We've been here for 2 1/2 years already (can't believe it has gone by so fast).  We served 4 years in Mongolia before coming here.
A watched clock never boils.

Jenny

Morning all.

Soni, thank-you...

Here is a new day. A whole new page for Jesus to write upon...if we let Him.

Larry, my thoughts and prayers are with you.  Thank-God that He caught that terrorist in perfect timing.

The news this morning is full of Ken's wicked murder in Iraq.  Our foreign secretary went to see the family at their home in Liverpool last night.  The police closed the road off from all traffic as a mark of respect and today the city is in mourning with 2 minutes silence and a Special Service at the R.C. cathedral in Liverpool.  The family is R.C.  They have made a statement which was read out by Ken's younger brother.

My heart is full ..

God Bless you all.
Jenny.

Pat

Good Morning Everyone...

What a night!  I've been up for hours but maybe I'll have a nap later on.

Here's an article about the poor Canadian submariners who are in the submarine being towed in high seas back to Scotland.  What a time they are having.

http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/2004/10/08/newgraham_sub041008.html

Jenny, it's just too sad about Ken Bigley.  I'm so sorry for his dear family.

Hi Jane!  Hope you have a great day today with your friend.

Is your wife's peanut butter going to be in the "stuff" that the pastor is bringing from the states, Mike?  ;D

Thanks so much for today's devotional, Soni.  What a wonderful verse to think about today:

Know ye not that ye are the temple of God,
and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

1 Corinthians 3:16

Well, talk to you later.

I'm off to try an ice pack on my eye!  ::)

Pat, so sorry you're in pain. I truly hope you'll be relieved of it by the time you read this message.

It was a very good business meeting. One for which I believe God led me to prepare. How thankful I was, and how I've praised Him for His leading!

Y'all have a good day. I'm still very tired, so plan to rest almost all day today.

Ruth Ann

Good Morning, Thank you Soni for the devotional this morning. There's a song in that scripture you posted this morning. " Know ye not ye are the temple" actually it is a chorus. Pat do you have that one ???

My plans for the day are:
1: Chat with Jenny on m at 8 AM.
2: Work on the rest of my PSP lessons for this week.
3: Shower and shampoo
4: be lazy at home all day long.
5: Study my Sunday School lesson.

Yes surprise! ;D I am going to rest and relax doing the things I that are a pleasure to me.

Hi everyone.  Just back from morning coffee at the local Cafe.  We had 7 men there this morning, including one we hadn't seen for several weeks.  Of course, we discussed the political debates and then sports as today the Atlanta Braves baseball team is playing in the playoffs and then at 3:30 pm the University of Georgia is playing the University of Tennessee.  I plan to spend the afternoon in my easy chair taking in the games.

Marilyn, glad you will be taking a day off today and getting some rest.

Pat, sorry to read that you had a bad night and do hope today will be more comfortable and you can get in a nap.

Sonja, thanks for the devotional.  It is interesting how something like the stirring of new life and be a sermon as well.

Sue, sorry to read you are sick with a cold.  It sounds like you need some rest.

Ruth Ann, glad you have decided to rest today.  It sounds like you had a very busy and tiring, but exhilirating week.

Jenny, I can empathize with what your country is going through over the death of Ken .  It was just a few days ago that our community went through that with the man from Marietta, Georgia (a suburk of Atlanta) who was beheaded.

Skief, I will be looking forward to seeing your photos from your weekend.

Jane, enjoy your day out with your friend.  Sometimes something like that is really a boost to us when we have been confined for awhile.

Pinkie, wish I could of help in finding the song you are seeking but I have never heard it.

Pat

Blessed Assurance
(Click to hear music)

Words by Fanny Crosby
Music by Phoebe P. Knapp

Hebrews 10:22
"Let us draw near with a true heart
in full assurance of faith,
having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience,
and our bodies washed with pure water
."

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

Refrain
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long.

Perfect submission, perfect delight,
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels descending bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

Refrain
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long.

Perfect submission, all is at rest;
I in my Savior am happy and blest,
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

Refrain
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long.

Blessed Assurance:

Not much is known of the background of this Fanny Crosby hymn, "Blessed Assurance, Jesus is Mine."  Fanny tells this one story about the hymn.  Mrs. Joseph Fairchild Knapp, wife of the organizer of the Metropolitan Life Insurance company, went to visit her and get an opinion of a tune Mrs. Knapp had written.  "What does it say to you, Fanny?" she asked.  Fanny's answer was "Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine."  And then a few minutes later she handed to Mrs. Knapp the completed lyrics of the hymn.  The tune and the lyrics were put together and are still sung today.

Fanny Crosby wrote over 8000 hymns.  She said about her blindness, "The first face ever to gladden my sight will be when I get to heaven and behold the face of the One who died for me. . . .  I verily believe that God intended that I should live my days in physical darkness so that I might be better prepared to sing His praise and lead others from spiritual darkness into eternal light.  With sight I would have been too distracted to have written thousands of hymns."

Interesting story Pat.

I love to read about the background to the old hymns, the background has as much to say to us as the words of the hymn.

Today is one of those days that I wanted to get caught up on here and then move on to other things....but sometimes the internet has other ideas...like today.  It has been interesting.  For one, I got an email from Jenny Mc that originally came from Piqua, Ohio.  Seems it was written by the Senior Minister where Jerry Sowers attended church when he lived in Piqua.  A very touching email about our president, President Bush.

It is bright and sunny again.  Yesterday, it looked like rain all day but never rained.  It is soooooo dusty out there with all the farmers getting in their crops.  Soooooo dry!  When it rains, we may have a mud state!!!!!  But the temperatures are mild and I am enjoying fall so far.

God bless each and every one of you....each of you have concerns today that God can and will help you overcome.

Well, I don't know about the rest of you, but we had Christmas today....  Pastor brought in a whole suitcase with nothing but foodstuffs and some other things for us.  We had sent him a list of some of the things that we liked, and he printed the list, gave it to his secretary and said, "Go shopping."  He even bought a new suitcase to put it all in, and gave us the suitcase as well.  Let me see if I can remember most of the things that were in there...

Little Debbie Cakes, Snack-ums Cheese packs, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Wheat Thins, Chocolate Chips, Parmesan Cheese, Pepperoni for Pizza, Spaghettios, Pop-Tarts.  He also brought some things that Grandma had sent for us, a couple of Tennessee Vols Polo shirts for me, a TN Vols Cheerleader outfit for Noel, some pants for my wife, a DVD recorder drive and a bunch of blank DVD's.

He laughed watching us open it up and thought we were crazy acting like we were.  Oh well, you appreciate the things you can't get when you live overseas.

Pat, we actually had a group of people we didn't really know bring in a bunch of peanutbutter for my wife a week or so ago, so we didn't need any of that, and I never need any of that yucky stuff.
A watched clock never boils.

Sonifo

I bet you were all excited, Skief!  I love it my MIL brings goodies up for us at Christmas time.  Even though it is stuff that is everyday items it still is a surprise.

It is hot here.   Only like 75 but it is soooo dry!  Ugh!  My hair is all staticky.  We need moisture like Etta Sue does.

I have dance practice in about 30 minutes so I better get off.

Have a good day!

Soni: That overnight storm we had here onthe west coast is headed your way, Won't be long now and you'll have a little bit of rain or maybe snow. LOL ;D

Be doing a few things here not much, 1 load of laundry that needs to come out of the dryer now. Some PSP, editied a photo and posted it. Made a couple of phone calls, im'ed with Jenny for over an hour. Brushed Happy Dog, he has chewed a place by his tail that I cleaned with peroxide going to put some tea tree oil on him too. That's about it for me today so far.

Yes Janet I am resting. are you?

Just a short note to say thanks for all the welcomes I feel all at home. Just some info - I live about 10miles from Ken Bigely's family in Liverpool (uk). I can say for sure that all the local churches are supporting and praying for them.

Nick

Al Moak

We welcome you, Nick, and so does our Lord!  Come in often.  We've got quite a number from UK now.  Anybody hear from Chris and Margit the last few days?

Nice devotional, Sonja.  Thanks.  I also saw the beautiful photo that was so successful.  Yours is the eye of a true artist.  Perhaps one day you will explore drawing and painting, it would be a great way to express your talent.

It is rainy season here on the island and I have not been able to take photo's for the color contest.  Hoping for a sunny day soon.  Went to my little drawing class and find it has jump started my lazy creativity.  Now want to draw when should be working.  We are only using pencil, charcoal, pen & ink.  Love the use of color, so have to suppress the urge to liven things up!

Hope your eye is better soon Pat.  I have started on a new drop, hopefully will not have bad reactions this time.  My optic nerve is deteriorating and they must find a medicine that will stop the lose of vision.  Don't turn 70....everything starts to wear out.  Tho' God didn't intend for us to have perfect bodies here on earth.

Amanda and the kids are off to Sooke (near Victoria) as Amanda has sold two bunnies to a fine home.  She is most particular about that!  I made butter tarts and will cook dinner for them.  So should start working on stuff....For some reason, they l-o-v-e my butter tarts.  Only do them when they need a treat, otherwise the novelty would wear off...... ;)

Have been following the US election debates and they are really interesting.  Guess you know who I want to win!  Remember the good old days when having morals wasn't considered a sin?  How did every moral issue, suddenly become a polical issue???

Please forgive this silly little joke...that is all it is....a silly little joke!

November is when Americans close their eyes, bow their heads and give thanks for the turkeys they are about to receive.
Then they vote.
;D ;D ;D

Pleasant day all and God Bless.

Great to have you here, Nick!   Do you live right in Liverpool?  We're all so saddened by the news of Ken Bigley.  It's a tragedy.

Our relatives were in Chester and the Wirrel (Port Sunlight) and really all over the place.  Jack and I hiked many, many trails all over England and Wales.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you a lot better.

Al Moak, you asked about Chris.

Chris and Margit have gone to Germany for a week or so.

Good Evening

It has been a few days since I was last here so I have some reading to catch up on.
We went to the Erin Fair today and it seems that every time that we have gone it has been cold and windy and today was no exception.  A cousin of ours had a calf entered in several classes and she took almost all of the prizes. Her goal is life is to be a farmer and she is going in the right direction.

Ruth

Janet

I'm really late getting here today.  Curtis came this morning, bearing a huge sack on his shoulder, looked like Santa Claus!  But inside the bag was...........drum roll, please.................dirty laundry!  ;D ;D  He said in the laundry in his building at school, it costs a dollar for each wash load and a dollar for each dryer load.  And he knew Grandma would do it for him!  Of course, he was right!  We have had a wonderful day together.  I took him to Alejandro's for lunch, then when Darrel got home around 1:30, Curtis helped him hook up the 5th wheel and get it back into the garage.  We had left it out since June, because we had so much rain.  I'm relieved to have it safely inside again.

Then the guys got out the 22s and spent some time together on target practice.  Then Darrel took us to Pizza Hut for supper, and we brought Beth back some pizza, too, which made her happy.  Curtis is spending the night with us, too.  How I love having him around!

Beth, that was a good post, and I'm so happy your NF friend has come into God's kingdom and has the assurance of spending eternity in heaven with Him.  Praise God!

Soni, that was a good devotional, I liked the comparison of the baby in the womb to the life of the Spirit within.  Thanks!

Pat, I hope your eye is much improved by now.  I had a little snack of Picards Peanuts a while ago---Yum!!  ;D  (I bought those while we were in Canada.)

Larry, I hope you can get the PSA lowered.  Darrel had an extremely high reading a while back, nearly freaked the doctor out, but it turned out he had an infection, and once they got that cleared up, he was okay.  Hope you get a good result, too.  You don't need any additional problems, your heart worries us enough.

Marilyn, glad you are resting for a change!  ;)

Hi, LIz!

Welcome to Nick!  Great to have you with us!

Skief, what a great "Christmas in October" for your family.  That was a blessing from God, via your friends.

Hi, Etta Sue---thnks for sending on the email about our praying President.  I think you should share that in here.

I need to talk to Curtis some more, but wanted to at least stop in and say howdy.  Howdy!  ;D

Papa John

Sonja, good thoughts in the devotional.  Of course a mother can appreciate the illustration better than someone who has never given birth.  But the lesson applies to all in whom God’s Holy Spirit dwells.

Heb 12:14-16
14   Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
15   Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;
16   Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.  (KJV)

Jane, I hope you had a good day going “out and about” today.  We have had a very nice today but in the last hour it has started raining just a little.  But rain is good too.

Skief, it is good to see you today.  Cornelia and I spent ten years in foreign mission work.  I thought of the many times we were at the airport to meet someone bearing gifts.

Jenny, it is so sad that Ken Bigley was executed by cruel evil men, men who claim that they are doing God’s will.

Isa 5:20  Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!  (KJV)

Pat, take care of that eye.  It will be all right soon.

Ruth Ann, I hope you have had a good rest today.  You deserve it.

Marilyn, I hope that you too had rest and relaxation which you also deserve.  I sometimes feel a little guilty because I have time to rest every day.

Larry, right now I am watching the Tennessee/Georgia game, 3rd quarter and still 13 to 7 Tennessee.  Unfortunately I have to leave in a few minutes to go to a funeral visitation.

Etta Sue, we are having just a little rain.  We have had a lot of good rain through the summer but it has been dry the last few weeks.  Rain is good.
Hope you have some soon.

NICK, welcome here in CP.  What a terrible burden for the Bigley family and to think that you live near them.  People all over the world offer their condolence.

And a quick hello to Al, Liz, Ruth, and  a “howdy” to Janet.

--- Papa John

My heart is saddened with the knowledge of Ken Bigley's cruel murder.  Papa John - How I appreciated that verse of scripture you put in here regarding evil.

Pinkie:  Any word or sightings of Bonz?

Janet:  Can you believe it., I have never been to Picard's peanuts, and I live so close!  I'm glad you are enjoying them.  Where all in St. Jacobs did you visit?  Did you happen to have a meal at "Crossroads" restaurant by any chance?  Its a wonderful place., a lot of buses go there, and it is Christian owned.

Beth:  How are you feeling these days?

Well, this is the Canadian Thanksgiving.  We are taking friends out for dinner on Thanksgiving Monday.

Ruth:  It is our plan to go to the Erin Fair on Monday.  I will try and find the ribbon that your friend received.  What is her name?

Last night was one of those nights that I couldn't sleep, so I am closing early here tonight, and hoping I will sleep.

I want to be rested up for church tomorrow.

Good night....sweet dreams everyone.
