Morning Devotional...

Worrying

Matt. 6:24

"No man can serve two masters....Ye cannot serve God and mammon"

What he here condemns is, the care of the heart; the anxious, uneasy care; the care that hath torment; all such care as does hurt, either to the soul or body. What he forbids is, that care which, sad experience shows, wastes the blood and drinks up the spirits; which anticipates all the misery it fears, and comes to torment us before the time. He forbids only that care which poisons the blessings of to-day, by fear of what may be to-morrow; which cannot enjoy the present plenty through apprehensions of future want. This care is not only a sore disease, a grievous sickness of soul, but also a heinous offence against God, a sin of the deepest dye. It is a high affront to the gracious Governor and wise Disposer of all things; necessarily implying, that the great Judge does not do right; that he does not order all things well. It plainly implies that he is wanting, either in wisdom, if he does not know what things we stand in need of; or in goodness, if he does not provide those things for all who put their trust in him.... With a single eye to God, do all that in you lies to provide things honest in the sight of all men: And then give up all into better hands; leave the whole event to God.

Hello to everyone!  Maybe I'm first :)  Good devotional, Soni, thanks.

We made it back from Columbia, SC, and now I'm 3/4 asleep and Karma and Trav are completely there.

Good night, all!

Hi

Good morning everybody, first time on this thread, the weather here in England is good at the moment. I would like to say, my heart and soul is with all the people who lost family and friends on the 11th, a day nobody will forget.

You will be remembered by all.

Hi everyone.  Got up fairly early as woke up and started thinking about things I wanted to do today and so decided to get up and get started.  It is amazing what you can do when you get started. ::)

Etta Sue, we can depend on a sibling to call us on the carpet about our age.  :)  She won't let you get away with anything!

Janet, certainly agree with you on the importance of friends.  The friends will also benefit from having done something for someone else.

Marilyn, certainly hope that there is nothing seriously wrong with Bebe's hip.  Is the knitting project for you to wear or is it decorative?  Very pretty and colorful, by the way.

Checksix, certainly glad to hear your mission trip is back on.  Unfortunately I don't remember the name of the place they are going but remember hearing it is in the moutains.

Carol, yes I want to prepare in case we lose power again.  It seems that our area is heavy hit.  We have buried utilities in the neighborhood but the feeder lines are in another neighborhood that seem to be affected.  I am going to see about getting some battery powered type of lights so we won't have to sit in the dark if we lose power.  These would be a good thing to have onhand.

Sue, afraid I can't help on on the books.  Hope someone else has them.

Sonja, thanks for the devotional thought this morning.

I did get the cable in yesterday, but what an experience with an installer who didn't want to be working and said he was going to his truck to call something in and would be back in but just took off and we saw nothing else of him.  Customer Service did call me later in the afternoon to say they were sorry they hadn't gotten someone out here and I told them the man had been here but had basically dumped everything on us and run.  I have the internet working on just my desktop.  Fortunately I have another month with my Earthlink account so kept my wireless  network on that service so our other computers would have internet access.  It was a frustrating day but it will all work out.

Today I have to start changing my e-mail address on many websites and work on notifying folks in my address book so will have a busy day.  Hope it is a nice day for everyone.  Of course, we need to remember 9-11-01 and thanks vec2 for your words.  This was a tragedy that affected the whole world as we knew it.

Pat

Good Morning Everyone...

Thanks Soni, for the lovely devotional today.  Worrying is one of my downfalls and I must remember that "Worry is like a rocking chair.  It gives you something to do but doesn't get you anywhere."  Oh, how often we are needlessly anxious.  Needless because we have a Heavenly Father who has everything in control!

Nice to see you drop in vec2!  This is like our little "coffee shop" and you'll find that you'll get to know the folks on this site so much faster if you drop in here to this topic each day.  We "lock the door" each night at about midnight eastern time and open a new one for the next day.

What a job, Larry!  I dislike changing my email addresses everywhere.  I had to do that when I first got broadband.

Nice to see you pop in last night, Nards.

Well, I'm trying to get my Avon order finished packing and then I want to put the final coat of paint on my living room window trim so that I can get my curtains back up.  What a mess here right now!

I'll talk to you later!

Enjoy your Saturday and let's not forget to Remember 9/11

I've a home prepared where the saints abide
Just over in the glory land
And I long to be by my Saviour's side
Just over in the glory land

Just over in the glory land

Just over in the glory land
Just over in the glory land
There with the mighty host I'll stand

Just over in the glory land
There to sing God's praises and his glory share

What a joyful thought that my Lord I'll see
Just over in the glory land
And with kindred saved, there forever be

Papa John

Good morning on this day, September 11, 2004,

Three years ago this morning I was watching the morning news when it was first announced that a plane had crashed into one of the World Trade Center towers in New York.  I told Cornelia.  We thought it was an accident and remembered when years ago a small plane had crashed into the Empire State Building.  Then as we were watching another plane crashed into the other tower and immediately we knew it was an attack and not an accident.  We watched in horror as the events began to unfold.

I had a dental appointment and I went on to the dentist and on the radio we listened as they said a plane had crashed into the Pentagon.  Our granddaughter’s husband worked in the Pentagon.  This really troubled me and it was all I could do to keep from breaking down.  As I was driving home they announced that one tower had completely fallen and then later the other tower and that a fourth hijacked plane had crashed in a field in Pennsylvania.

Four commercial planes had crashed killing all passengers and crews.  Thousands of people were killed in the World Trade Center towers and in the Pentagon.  Terrorists had struck our country with devastating  results.  Our country was at war with a new kind of war.  Our hearts were broken and we were in mourning for all the sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers, friends, loved ones, innocent victims who were, in a moment, taken away from us.

May the LORD our God be with us as he was with our fathers; may he never leave us nor forsake us.  May he turn our hearts to him, to walk in all his ways and to keep the commands, decrees and regulations he gave our fathers.  I Kings  8:57-58  (NIV)

Something is eery!!!!  Four times in the last half hour we have had low flying fighter jets fly over.  Really loud.  I went outside the third time and saw 2 fighter jets.  The last time they weren't as close.  I am hoping they are circling Indy because of 9/11.  I was thinking that the first jet hit at 9:40 a.m. est so that would be 8:40 a.m. here.  Thought maybe they were flying over because of the time but I don't know.  And we probably will never know.  I have the TV on but nothing has been said about the fly overs.  Eery!!!!

Larry, I tell Ivalou that I will never be as old as she is!!!!!  She is 9 years older.  But then I also remind her to retain knowledge about Social Security, Medicare, etc. so that when I get to the age to recieve those things, she can help me out.  She is one great sister.  Just now when I was out 'looking for jets', she was outside looking too.  We watch out for each other.  It is wonderful to have a sister for your VERY BEST FRIEND.

Marilyn ~ 'Doo hickey'!!  I hadn't hear that expression for years.  My BIL called everything a doo hickey!!!  Just an idea but I have crocheted sombreros with cotton yarn.  Their use?  They are a handle holder for iron skillets.  You make the top part long enough to go over the handle and the brim is wide enough to protect your hand from touching the iron skillet.  Easy and useful!!!  I hope your fridge is fixed or replaced soon as I know you are hoping too.

Bright and sunny today.  Whispy clouds in the sky.  Cool right now.  I have all the windows open but I love the cool fresh air.

Well it's blue sky and bright sunshine here today!  It's our grocery shopping morning.  Then, when we get home, Marbeth goes up to the laundry room to do that.  It's free!  I've got to stay home and work on a sermon for a week from tomorrow, as I've been assigned to that day.  We've got a baptism tomorrow afternoon, and I'll try to remember to take some pix.  Blessings upon all today.  Welcome Vec2 - come back and tell us all about where you are, what you do, etc.

Marilyn

Still waiting for the repairman to at least call me. ::)

I am ready for work, doing laundry, cleaned the bathroom, did the dishes. Now I am back to  you guys here.

Etta Sue I have seen crocheted handles for frying pans and some made for quilting pieces. Gloria has 2 of the latter and has caught both of them on fire by leaving them on while cooking. Not a good thing to do. :-[

Today we are going up to the church for the afternoon to cut up all the fruit for the Luau Tomorrow, I will take photos tomorrow.

Pat Oct. 6 is Gilbert's birthday he will be 32.

Hi Good Afternoon from West Yorkshire England,

I have been retired for the past 14yrs, I have been married for 43yrs, have two married daughters, and 5 grandsons aged 17yrs to 26 yrs. Before retiring I was and officer in charge of and elderly persons home belonging to the Local Authourity, and my wife was the third officer.
She suffered a heart attack, and I then retired with her has I had my full service in, so we have had a very enjoyable time so far.

My hobbies are messing about on computers, gardening, playing the keyboard for sing alongs for the elderly, but also fit into that school myself, love Malta and spend at lest two holidays a year there. I would like to say thank you to you all for making me feel so welcome. I hope you now know a little about me, still a bit shy when it comes to disclosing things because I have only recently gone onto the broadband internet.

Thanks to you all

Vec2 - nice to meet you on here.  I too am retired, married 49 years, six children and 11 grands.  There's actually two more grands, but we don't know their whereabouts.  No ggs yet, though two or three of the grands are over 20 years old, so expect it may not be terribly long.  We live in California, on the northern coast, about 95 miles from Oregon.

How about a name besides Vec2?

Jenny

Hello Patzie  ;) and Everyone  ::)

I am here...only just!....Mega, mega "puter" problems.

Just popping in to say 'hello' in case you forget me... ;)

My thoughts and prayers go out to you all over in  U.S. today and to the folks in the eye of the hurricane. I have been watching the news throughout the day. I have a friend in St. Thomas.W.I. and my Christian "sister" Myrnel, from over the road has been busy trying to phone her relations over in Jamaica.

Thank-God that Jamaica has been spared a direct hit.

It was moving to see some small children crying for their Mummys and daddies at Ground Zero today.  Also some of the 100 babies born since 9/11 were present. Poignant!

This evening it is very cold and dark and an evening to snuggle up by the fire, which I think I shall shall do now....with my knitting. Thank God for small mercies and that I am here to enjoy them.

Hi Pastor Al.

God Bless you all.
Love Jenny.

Revival: How Much Does Revival Cost?

I will set My tabernacle among you, and My soul shall not abhor you.
I will walk among you and be your God, and you shall be My people.
-Leviticus 26:11-12

So we sit down to have a board meeting. What are we going to do to
stir ourselves up? Who can we get? Where will we look? We forget
that all the time Jehovah is present. "I am Jehovah shammah; I am
in the midst of you. Why don't you talk to me?" No, we don't ask
Him.

"I am your banner of victory." But we say, "I just wonder how much
it will cost?" How much does a revival cost? Absolutely nothing
and absolutely everything-that is how much it will cost. It will
cost not one dime, and it will cost everything we have. You cannot
import it by flying someone in from New Zealand. How many of these
blessed preachers have come in from Ireland and England? They did
some big things over there, we heard, so we flew them in and they
never got anywhere. I never saw anything result from trying to
import God. He does not fly over in a jet. He says, "I am Jehovah;
I am with you. I am where you are; I am here now. Call on me."
Rut, Rot or Revival: The Condition of the Church, 158-159.

"I call upon You this morning, Jehovah. Right here in my study, as
I prepare to fulfill the ministry to which You have called me
today-I call upon You here and now to work a mighty work in and
through me. Amen."

And Can it Be That I Should Gain
(Click to hear music]

Suddenly there was a great earthquake,
so that the foundations of the prison were shaken;
and immediately all the doors were opened
and everyone's chains were loosed.
Acts 19:26

Words: Charles Wesley, Psalms and Hymns, 1738.
Music: "Sagina," Thomas Campbell, 1835

And can it be that I should gain
An interest in the Savior's blood!
Died He for me who caused His pain!
For me who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! How can it be,
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
Amazing love! How can it be,
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

'Tis mystery all: th' Immortal dies!
Who can explore His strange design?
In vain the firstborn seraph tries
To sound the depths of love divine.
'Tis mercy all! Let earth adore;
Let angel minds inquire no more.
'Tis mercy all! Let earth adore;
Let angel minds inquire no more.

He left His Father's throne above
(so free, so infinite His grace!),
Emptied Himself of all but love,
And bled for Adam's helpless race.
'Tis mercy all, immense and free,
For O my God, it found out me!
'Tis mercy all, immense and free,
For O my God, it found out me!

Long my imprisoned spirit lay,
Fast bound in sin and nature's night;
Thine eye diffused a quickening ray;
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.

No condemnation now I dread;
Jesus, and all in Him, is mine;
Alive in Him, my living Head,
And clothed in righteousness divine,
Bold I approach th' eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.
Bold I approach th' eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.

Hi Soni...    I had a busy day too.  I packed my Avon order and painted the window frame in the living room.  Now, I'm airing the curtains and will get them ready to hang up again.

Larry Hanna

I posted early this morning and then when I went to start my car to go to coffee with my retired friends it wouldn't start.  I took the other car and after going to a friends house to fix a little problem with his wife's e-mail setup he came over (we live fairly close) and when we checked the battery found that acid had leaked out and corroded the positive post and eaten entirely through it.  The acid had also eaten through the wiring that goes to the computer and to the alternator.  So I had to have the car towed in to the Saturn garage and on Monday they will replace the wires and put in a new battery.  The battery was only 2 years olds so will at least get an adjustment on that but the repairs are going to cost some big $$.

So I didn't get to Wal-Mart for some reserve lighting in case we lose power again.  Instead I spent the rest of the day going to various websites, including CP, and changing my e-mail address.  I probably have another day or two of work to change others.  This is also giving me the chance to test to see if the sites are still in business.

Papa John, I well remember hearing of the first plane going into the World Trade Center as I left the cafe after coffee.  I came home and turned on the TV in time to see the second plane fly into the other tower.  I had an appointment with my cardiologist for a stress test that day but people were listening on the radio in the office in the waiting room.  What a sad day that was.

vec2,  I am 63 years old and have been retired for over 8 years.  I also play the piano and go once-a-week to an adult daycare program run by our church to play for and sing with the folks and really enjoy it.  My wife and I have 2 children, one granddaughter, who has given us two great grandchildren and we also have a step grandsaron who will be giving us a third great grandchild around the first of the year.

Marilyn, I couldn't tell the perspective on your photo but sort of thought that might be something small that you had knitted.  Thanks for the explanation.

Good to see everyone posting.  Guess I had better sign off for tonight.

Etta Sue

Busy day today.  My son, Tony, has been here twice......I LOVE HIS HARLEY!!!  At a town north of here is a motorcycle riding course.  If you pass the course, your license are cheaper as well as your insurance.  He passed.  Then he went home and brought Charlene back with him....he can now legally have a buddy on the back... ::)  But hard-headed Tony isn't wearing his helmet now that he passed his test.  He doesn't wear seat belts either....I didn't teach him that way, for sure.

Jerry is here and watching a NASCAR race so I thought I would get on here and catch up so it won't take so long in the morning before church.

It has been a sad day in remembrance of 9/11.  Oh, yes!!!  At Oaklawn Cemetery in Indy there was a healing field of American flags...one for each person that died on 9/11.  At 9:11 a.m. this morning, there were jets that flew over and around Indy 4 times...once for each disaster.  That was the jets that we heard this morning.

Off to see what else you have been up to today!!!

Judy McKenna

Hi to everyone:  So nice to read the bios here.  Vec2 , welcome to C.P.  Come back soon... this is the best place to find out what each of us are doing or have done each day.

Etta Sue:  Oh... I'm sure glad you explained what the planes were doing that you and Ivalou heard this morning. That would be scary, not knowing.

I remember very well what I was doing        9/11/01 too.  I had just finished some laundry, and was on my way to the grocery store.  I sat in my car outside the store for over an hour, listening to the radio.  I just couldn't "get away from the radio" .  I did the necessary shopping, and hurried home to phone my children.  I JUST HAD TO talk to my children....did you feel that way too?..... just needing to be close to your family....  I will never forget September 11, 2001.!

Well, I'm off to bed now., want to be well rested for church tomorrow.

Good Night everyone!

"I am too blessed to be stressed".
