Morning Devotional...

Protection From Satan

Put on all of God's armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies and tricks of the Devil (Ephesians 6:11, NLT).

Dear friends:

A young minister shared with me one day, "I am afraid of Satan."

I replied, "You should be afraid of Satan -- if you want to live your own life and do your own thing apart from God.  But if you are willing to let Christ control your life, you have nothing to fear because the Bible says, 'Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world'" (1 John 4:4, KJV).

Continuing, I said, "Satan was defeated 2,000 years ago at the cross. Though he has great power to influence man, the Bible assures us that he is defeated by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony" (Revelation 12:11, NIV).

This friend lives in a city where they have one of the largest zoos in the world.  I said, "What do you do with lions in your city?"  He replied that they keep them in a cage.  I said, "Like the lion, Satan is in a cage, and he cannot hurt you unless you get into the cage with him.

Get in the cage, and the lion will make mincemeat of you.  But you have nothing to fear so long as you stay out of the cage.  You have nothing to fear from Satan so long as you are continually surrendered to the Lord Jesus Christ and controlled by the Holy Spirit, by faith."

Satan could also be compared to Butch, a big neighborhood bully, who delights in beating up all the smaller children.  Suppose my little lad of four years of age is on his way to kindergarten, and suddenly Butch steps out from his place of hiding and beats him up.  So, the next day we walk to school together. Several days go by and we see no further
sign of Butch.  After a while my son says, "Daddy, I guess Butch has moved away.  Now I can go to school on my own."

So, off to kindergarten he goes, when suddenly and without warning he is pounced upon by Butch, who had never left, but had been waiting every day, observing us as we walked to school together.

So it is in our relationship with Christ -- we are totally dependent upon Him.  Satan cannot affect us as long as we walk with Christ and look to Him to fight our battles for us.

"Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes" (Ephesians 6:11, NIV).
~Bill Bright

Only Trust Him  (http://www.christianphotographers.com/sounds/only-trust-him.mid)
(Click to hear music)

Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in Me. John 14:1

Words: John H. Stockton, Salvation Melodies No. 1 (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: Perkinpine & Higgins, 1874).

Music: Trust (Stockton), John H. Stockton, 1869; refrain by Ira D. Sankey, 1873

While on the way to England with Mr. Moody in 1873, one day in mid-ocean, as I was looking over a list of hymns in my scrapbook, I noticed one commencing," Come every soul by sin oppressed."

Believing that these words had been so often sung that they were hackneyed, I decided to change them and tell how to come to Jesus by substituting the words, "Only trust him."

In this form it was first published in Sacred Songs and Solos in London. While holding meetings in Her Majesty's Theater in Pall Mall, London, and singing this hymn, I thought I would change the chorus again, and asked the people to sing "I will trust Him."

Then as we sang I decided to change it once more, and asked them to sing "I do trust him." God blessed this rendering of the hymn to eight persons present, who testified afterward that by the change they were led to accept salvation.

Come, every soul by sin oppressed;
There's mercy with the Lord,
And He will surely give you rest
By trusting in His Word.

Refrain

Only trust Him, only trust Him,
Only trust Him now;
He will save you, He will save you,
He will save you now.

For Jesus shed His precious blood
Rich blessings to bestow;
Plunge now into the crimson flood
That washes white as snow.

Refrain

Yes, Jesus is the truth, the way,
That leads you into rest;
Believe in Him without delay
And you are fully blessed.

Refrain

Come, then, and join this holy band,
And on to glory go
To dwell in that celestial land
Where joys immortal flow.

Refrain

O Jesus, blessed Jesus, dear,
I'm coming now to Thee;
Since Thou hast made the way so clear
And full salvation free.

Refrain

I was frustrated all evening with tring to get on to Comcast. Finally, phoned and between my son and me we got the modem reset and things are working now.

I had gone to bed for the evening when he cracked the door to say the internet was back up. However, I was too sleepy at that point to drop by for a moment.

(And am returning to bed right now!) Y'all have a good day in the Lord.

Good Morning everyone. Janet thank you so much for posting this mornings devotional.

I forgot to mention last night that Bebe was so good at the vet's office. I was so concerned that she would freak out. She was very nervous but behaved very well, even when her toenails were cut. I was so surprised that she let the Doctor examine her.

Gloria is supposed to interview another caregiver today. I do hope she will hire him so I can have tomorrow off. However the two that she spoke to on the phone didn't want to work Saturday's. DRAT!!

Janet I do hope Beth's Dr. appointment today will give you some positive news.

Larry I am praying for you to make the right decision re: the transplant.

HI JERRY are you lurking here today.

Good morning.  Janet, thanks for the devotional.  I’ll try to stay out of the cage.  Last week we went to the zoo.  We saw scary looking leopards.  They were in a natural habitat but they were fenced in so they could not get to us.  I wasn’t about to try to climb over the fence.

Good morning Ruth Ann.  I have Comcast too and whenever I have a problem I can usually just turn the modem off for a minute and then turn it back on and it will kick in again.  I just leave it on all the time.  It doesn’t use enough electricity to matter.

Sonja, it looks to me like you are up pretty late.  Usually when the door is shut at night I am already sawing logs.

1 Pet 5:6-9  Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.  Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.  Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. [/b] Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.  (NIV)

My second day on this site, and I love it already!

My wife purchased a CD for me on Father's Day this year and one of the songs on it is absolutely awesome.  "Beneath This Armour" by Squire Parsons.  I wish you could hear the music, but at least we can read the lyrics"

BENEATH THIS ARMOUR

I know that in this warfare, many times I have failed Him
Wish I could call back many a day
There’s one thing I’m asking, please don’t judge my intentions
By one fault or failure seen on this way

I may have lost the fight,
I’ve not lost the battle.
I may be wounded,
But I’m still marching on
I’m not a hero,
Just a tired trembling soldier
Beneath this armour beats the heart of a man.

Now you may have seen me strong and victorious,
The enemy slaughtered, down at my feet.
Holding a sword was a hand that was trembling
For I knew that alone I faced defeat.

I may have lost the fight,
I’ve not lost the battle.
I may be wounded,
But I’m still marching on
I’m not a hero,
Just a tired trembling soldier
Beneath this armour beats the heart of a man.

Beneath this armour beats the heart of a man.

(Words and music by Squire Parsons)

Hello folks..

I am here....Well I was here a few minutes ago but I lost my post and another Dialler came up...I hope these people (that's being polite) get caught!  I have checked and my phone company has me well and truly protected...no 090 or 00 numbers can get to me now and those are the ones the diallers use to make the money.  They put the Trojan onto our computers and then dial in and if we are unlucky it goes onto our telephone account.  Beware!

Soni.  I was not such an early bird today!  ::) Had some stuff to do.

Larry. Pray and your answer will be given you. Such a big decision  to make.  God be with you in this. I think of you often and pray for you.

Marilyn.  I hope Bebe will get better soon and that Jesus will touch her.  He knows what's best for your little precious.

Etta Sue.  Ouch, :o hope the dentist goes o.k.

Hello Dear Papa John.

Janet.  Thank you for that brill devotional. I have heard the devil described also as a rabid dog that is chained up. He is pulling on the chain but can't get near unless you get near to him. Keep away!

Love,
Jenny.

Lily of the Valley  (http://www.christianphotographers.com/sounds/lily-of-the-valley.mid)
(Click to hear music)

I am a rose of Sharon, a lily of the valleys.
Song of Solomon 2:1

Words: Charles W. Fry, 1881; first appeared in the Salvation Army's The War Cry, December 29, 1881. Fry wrote the lyrics in Lincoln, England, while working with the Salvation Army there.
Music: William S. Hays; adapted by Charles W. Fry

I have found a friend in Jesus, He's everything to me,
He's the fairest of ten thousand to my soul;
The Lily of the Valley, in Him alone I see
All I need to cleanse and make me fully whole.
In sorrow He's my comfort, in trouble He's my stay;
He tells me every care on Him to roll.

Refrain

He's the Lily of the Valley, the Bright and Morning Star,
He's  the fairest of ten thousand to my soul.

He all my grief has taken, and all my sorrows borne;
In temptation He's my strong and mighty tower;
I have all for Him forsaken, and all my idols torn
From my heart and now He keeps me by His power.
Though all the world forsake me, and Satan tempt me sore,
Through Jesus I shall safely reach the goal.

Refrain

He will never, never leave me, nor yet forsake me here,
While I live by faith and do His blessed will;
A wall of fire about me, I've nothing now to fear,
From His manna He my hungry soul shall fill.
Then sweeping up to glory to see His blessed face,
Where the rivers of delight shall ever roll.

Refrain

Isn't it great when newcomeres post on NEM.  :D  Ben, I do hope you return soon and let us know some about you.  I see by your picture you are in the Sheriff's department but we don't know where.  Tell us about yourself. please!

I am back from the dentist.  Just a cleaning and some x-rays today.  And the dentist was telling me that a tooth needs a crown on it...the same tooth that a dentist has been saying needs a crown on it for at least 10 years.   ::) But I can't afford a crown.  Cleaning, x-rays and such are covered by my insurance but fillings, crowns, root canals and such are only about 40%.  So he is going to add some silver to it Thursday and go the inexpensive way.  See, I figured if you refuse, they will find a cheaper alternative.   ;) ;)

I then stopped at a little restaurant in Lapel...I was the only one in there and it was noon.  :o  I did some shopping at the Dollar General and now I am home.  When Ivalou gets home from her lunch with high school classmates we are going shopping in Noblesville.  Then tomorrow is day one of the big diet!!!

It was real bright and sunny but now it is cloudy and overcast.  We do need some rain.

Which reminds me of something my mother said when I was a child.  We had planned a picnic at a park with a swimming pool.  I really wanted that picnic.  But it was raining and she said we would have to stay at home.  I kept complaining.  She said, “Maybe if you smile, the sun will come out.”  I tried to smile.  I smiled and smiled.  The sun DID come out.  And we DID go on our picnic.

Jerry, it is good to see you.  I hope you are feeling well these days.

Hi everyone.  Just got back from Calvin Cove.  There were 16 there today and the group sang well and seemed to enjoy the music.  I sure enjoyed being there.

This morning I went to Wal-Mart and got some camping latterns that are battery powered.  So if we lose power in a couple of days we won't have to sit here in the dark during the evening(s).  We have made some plans for food storage as well as we have three coolers that will hold things with ice.

Janet, thanks for the devotional thought and song.  Bill Bright certainly had a way with words  to get his points across.

Happy Birthday, Mary Francis

I continue to appreciate your prayers and concern.  I feel a lot better today than I have the last couple of days.

Hope everyone has a good day.

September 14    A Growing Hunger After God

As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O
God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
--Psalm 42:1-2a

In this hour of all-but-universal darkness one cheering gleam
appears: within the fold of conservative Christianity there are to
be found increasing numbers of persons whose religious lives are
marked by a growing hunger after God Himself. They are eager for
spiritual realities and will not be put off with words, nor will
they be content with correct "interpretations" of truth. They are
athirst for God, and they will not be satisfied till they have
drunk deep at the Fountain of Living Water.

This is the only real harbinger of revival which I have been able
to detect anywhere on the religious horizon. It may be the cloud
the size of a man's hand for which a few saints here and there
have been looking. It can result in a resurrection of life for
many souls and a recapture of that radiant wonder which should
accompany faith in Christ, that wonder which has all but fled the
Church of God in our day.  The Pursuit of God, 7.

"O Father, may their numbers increase more and more--those who 'are
athirst for God, and [who] will not be satisfied till they have
drunk deep at the Fountain of Living Water.' Amen."

Psalm 42:1
"As the hart panteth after the water brooks,
so panteth my soul after thee, O God."

As the deer panteth for the water,
So my soul longs after you.
You alone are my hearts desire,
And I long to worship You.

Chorus
You alone are my strength, my shield;
To You alone may my spirit yield.
You alone are my hearts desire,
and I long to worship You.

I want you more than gold or silver,
Only You can satisfy.
You alone are the real joy giver
And the apple of my eye.

Chorus
You alone are my strength, my shield;
To You alone may my spirit yield.
You alone are my hearts desire,
and I long to worship You.

You're my friend and You're my brother,
Even though you are a King.
I love You more than any other
So much more than anything.

Chorus
You alone are my strength, my shield;
To You alone may my spirit yield.
You alone are my hearts desire,
and I long to worship You.

Now I am on Tesco Talk telephone I can do this more often. God is so good.  Praise Him for the telephone.

Chris and Margit.  Hello there  ;)  Is it cold and blustery in your neck of the English woods?

Soni.  I will pop into that bedroom now. Have a 'look see'. Please Tell Zach I said Hello.

My son has just made me a cuppa so I will close for today
God Bless you all,
Goodnight from England.

Papa John, your little story about the smile would make a great illustrated children's story, I think!

Thanks, Etta Sue.  Unfortunately, we got no good news today.  I am getting weary of bad news all the time, but we are still trusting God, and leaving Beth in His loving hands.  Her doctor did change her pain med from Oxycontin, which was costing her about a hundred dollars a month, to Methodone, which was only about $5.50 for a 3 MONTHS supply!!  Then he changed her from Ambien for sleep to another scrip, dropping the cost from near a hundred to only $3.50 per month!  Praise God for an understanding doctor!  He thinks we need to see her neurologist and get a referral to a cancer treatment center in Amarillo, for another opinion.  That sounds reasonable to me---I don't like the thought of just ignoring the cancer.

Then her doctor also said he will write prescriptions for her to get an adjustable (hospital type) bed, as she can hardly sleep flat at all, plus scrips for pads for her wheelchair.  When we went to the medical supply place here, where we got her wheelchair, they showed us a seat-lift chair that someone had (used one) that looks new, and will call us with a price.  Beth tried it out, and it made it SO much easier for her to get up.  These people just opened that place a few months ago, and have been wonderful to us.  Another blessing from God.  He is always so good.

When we got back to Hugoton, I left Beth at Diane's store, and I went to the elementary school to visit Abby's class.  Her teacher is very, very nice.  She made me feel so welcome, and said she had Mark in her class when he was small.  I watched them take a math test and then they were working on a little counting device when I left.  The kids were at PE when I arrived, and two people told me that Abby had been watching for me all day, so it's a good thing I showed up!

Anyway, that was my day!  I had to load and unload the wheelchair numerous times.  We had to get one prescription filled in Oklahoma, the other one here, plus the other stops.  I was more than happy to get home!

And tomorrow, Darrel has a doctor appt. in the morning, and both of us have appointments to get our hearing checked in the afternoon, in Dodge City.  This has sure been the doctoring week around here.  Hope that does it for a while! :-\

WELCOME, BEN!!  GOOD TO READ YOUR POST!

I'm going to look if there are new photos---gotta see Chandraya's new room!

Janet, the place that has been so good to you may well be able to help you obtain a lift to put the wheelchair into and out of your vehicle. Might be worth asking about it.

My, goodness, I've been so busy and my back has taken this time to act up. So, I creep around, doing what I need to do and being especially careful to use my cane when walking.

As Mamma used tosay, "This, too, shall pass." And, I'll be mighty gla dwhen it does.

Y'all have a good evening.

Ruth Ann

Night all.  I am going to be off line for awhile getting my computer moved to another room.
Title: Greetings to everyone!

Thanks to everyone for the Birthday Greetings.  It's my 81st and God has been good to me.  I can walk, I can see, and most important of all - I can think and speak.  I am so very thankful to HIM for these blessings.

In the Spring of 1996, I had catarac surgery on both eyes (one at a time).  In October 2000, I had some TIAs (minor blood clots passing through the brain effecting my thinking and speech) - My mind was not working properly and I couldn't speak for two and a half days and late on the third day, I was almost back to normal.  Then in July 2002, I had both knees replaced at one time - two surgeons working at the same time - one was left-handed and the other right-handed (and this is not a joke - but I do laugh about it).    :D  No, I did not get two for the price of one.   :D

So you see why I am feeling so very blessed on this and every birthday to come.

I have known Pat Scott for many years and even had the pleasure of meeting her in person on one ocassion.  What a wonderful person to have as a friend.

I'll be visiting here regularly now that I have my very own new computer.

May you all have a good evening.

earlier today i meantioned i think i might have AAADD here's what it is:
This is an email i got

Recently, I was diagnosed with A. A. A. D. D.
   Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.
  This is how it manifests:
   I decide to wash my car.  As I start toward the garage, I notice that there is mail on the hall table.  I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car. I lay my car keys down on the table, put the junk mail in the trash can under the table, and notice that the trash can is full.  So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the trash first.  But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox when I take out the trash anyway, I may as well pay the bills first. I take my checkbook off the table, and see that there is only one check left  My extra checks are in my desk in the study, so I go to my desk where I find the can of Coke that I had been drinking. I'm going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the Coke aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over.  I see that the Coke is getting warm, and I decide I should put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.  As I head toward the kitchen with the coke a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye--they need to be watered. I set the Coke down on the counter, and I discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning. I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers. I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water and suddenly I spot the TV remote. Someone left it on the kitchen table. I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I will be looking for the remote, but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs, but first I'll water the flowers. I splash some water on the flowers, but most of it spills on the floor. So, I set the remote back down on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill. Then I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do. At the end of the day: the car isn't washed, the bills aren't paid, there is a warm can of Coke sitting on the counter, the flowers aren't watered, there is still only one check in my checkbook, I can't find the remote, I can't find my glasses, and I don't remember what I did with the car keys. Then when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day long, and I'm really tired.  I realize this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail.

   Don't laugh -- if this isn't you yet, your day is coming!!!!
