Morning Devotional...

It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.
Psalm 118:8

It has been suggested that this is the very middle verse in all the Scriptures. And could we not say that all of the Word of God hinges on this important premise?

In the United States, "In God We Trust" appears on the money, but it is certainly not evident in the lifestyle of the average citizen.

Terrorism and other catastrophic events remind us of our need to trust in a power greater than ourselves.

"Some trust in chariots (man's efforts), and some in horses (natural resources); but we will remember the name of the Lord our God" (Ps. 20:7).
                                                             --William Gustafson

Better it is to trust in God
than trust in man's defense;
Better to trust in God
than make princes our confidence.
Psalm 118:6

Hi, everyone! Oh, Pat, what a great devotional! One of my online Christian sites was talking about the same thing today! It is so easy to think that we can handle all lifes' problems by ourselves, but the Lord does not want us to--we should depend on him for everything! Brother Iain, could I ask what the words under your picture mean, and what language is that? Is it gaelic? I have written to a Scottish missionary (who is now in Ireland) and he writes words that look similiar to those! I pray our Lord blesses you all today! I won't be back until early next week; my husband and I are going to visit his mom for a couple of days.
Love in Him,
Cami
Pat, I went and read backwards, how did you say you pronounce your city? Thanks!

Quotewhat a fine looking lady Bev is, she looks like the kind of person you could trust and someone who would tell you to cheer up and she would help you to do just that.
Chris, you are so correct in your assesment of Bev.  One could trust her completely; she listened and then, in her quiet confident voice, would offer loving advice, counsel, or encouragement.  I have posted another photo of her (more "formal") and it seems to me that she is looking straight into the face of Jesus, her Lord and Savior whom she loved so very much.  She is dancing with Him in heavenly places tonight.

A very bright "Good morning" to one and all today.
I do hope and pray that all is well with you re "Isabel" and that she hasn't done too much damage in your vicinities. I prayed during the night that no lives would be lost in this.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths" Prov 3:5-5.,..... is a favourite for me when I qUote to my children. It is good therefore this morning Pat to be reminded in your devotional that in God must we trust.  IN HIM ALONE IS SAFETY BRETHREN.

Jane I continue to pray for Bev's family both her church and personal one/s.  What a PEACE-FILLED face...so beautiful.

Ria my prayers continue for dear Jan, for his brother and for Marcel.

Love and Blessings,
In Jesus Name to all who come here this day.
Jenny.

10.20 a.m.

The skies have gone very dark. I was going up the road on my scooter to buy some more mop heads....to have another go at the entry...
However, I decided to wait awhile and see how things went over therte after I retired to my bed last night...So popped back into yesterdays posts.....

All seems well.  ...Thankfully ev en Jeanne's son-in-law is O.K.  Praise God!

PAPA JOHN  I did enjoy your recollections of meeting Cornelia and how Our God does arrange things for us......when we leave matters in His hands.

ALPHA COURSE....some of you were discussing it the other day and we have had this over here for a couple of years.  However, the local Radio Station mentioned that the buses in this city are advertising the new season of Alpha and it starts again this month.....This is for all the mainstream churches.  I even have Roman Catholic friends participating.
The same Radio Station is about to discuss "What's the Meaning of Life" and they will mention Alpha so they said....OFF I GO FOR A LISTEN.

Back later.
Jenny.

Good Morning All :)
I pray that Isabel does not do too much to you in Canada.  We were in the south end of the storm which is the best place to be...a lot of wind and we missed a lot of rain, but did have some.  It is clear this AM.

I have read the posts in NEM from yesterday..but have to read my Bible this morning before I go to work.  Granddgtr spent the night with me and we are going to breakfast before school/work.  \

Have a blessed day.......kathy :-*

Good morning all!

This morning, mostly just rainy, dark and a bit windy.  I don't think it'll be too bad, but we spent yesterday afternoon doing the same thing as Pat, tying down all the loose chairs and stuff in the yards.  Pat, I'll have to give you a call, if you're ever around long enough ;).  You're a tough lady to track down sometimes.

Well, I have many things to do today.  I pray you all have a great day.  God bless you.  Jen.

Hi everyone.  It is another beautiful day here in Georgia and we could use a little rain as it has now been several days without rain.  The lawns have basically stopped growing the last two weeks, but guess it is getting that time of the year for some of the grasses to go dormant.

Welcome to Duckie.

It sounds like our CP folks have survived the hurricane pretty well although some still getting the effects of it.

Am going to water aerobics this morning and then on to our computer user's group this afternoon.  Just got back from the men's coffee at our local senior center.  We had about a dozen men there this morning.

Am going to be brief today, although have read the postings.

Good  Morning to one and all: Great devotional Pat. Trusting in the Lord for our every need is very important. Although I have found myself taking back that trust at times.

For some reason this morning I don't have much to say. It seems my rat problem is over. Just three were caught but Thank God they were caught.

I'll be back in a bit.

Good to see you all here today.  We have a busy morning.....did our half-mile swim and now are gathering up Scuba gear to take to school.  They invite us each year, when they study "Our Underwater World" in the 3rd and 4th grades.  The kids are so much fun, and ask some really good questions.  That is, until they degenerate into the "Have you ever seen a_________" questions! :-\  I usually give each child a seashell and a copy of Dive Training magazine as they leave.

Tonight, Beth and I are going to a play in Guymon, Okla. so I probably won't be on much today.

I wish for each of you a happy day, filled with blessings!  :D ;D

Well, here in wet and dreary Guelph, the rain is coming down heavier now.  The tropical storm is expected to arrive later this afternoon with the winds.  It's just a great day to spend indoors!

It's so nice to see you all posting.

I forget who asked...  Cami???

How do you pronounce Guelph?  Well, the last part of the word is just like one of those Santa elves...  "elf".

Say that and while you're saying it put the sound of "GW" in front of it all in one syllable.    If I were to write it like it's pronounced, I'd write it this way:  "GWELF"

Janet, I used to go into all of the schools that our bus company serviced and teach the School Bus Safety and it was such fun working with the kids.  As you say, some of the questions were kind of fun to try to reply to.

Nice to see you, Jen.   Hope you get that all important job soon.  It's nice to have money in your purse!   :o

Ria, I'm sorry that your son ended up with a broken bone.  Not nice at all.  And your poor father going through these radiation treatments.  They can be so tiring--at least my neighbour, Larry, found them to be that way.  We're continuing to pray for you dear sister.

Rats!!!  :o  Oh, Marilyn, I'm so glad that there seems to be no more rats!  One would have been one too many for me!   (Still praying, Marilyn!)  ;)

It's good that you, Larry and you, Kathy escaped the brunt of this hurricane.  The worst is yet to come for us but it's not a hurricane any more for us.  I'm so happy about that as Hurricane Hazel back in 1954 was just terrible with 81 people killed in the area where I lived in and around Toronto.

Jenny, is it far for you to go shopping?  Do you do all of your own shopping?  When I lived in Ireland, we had many services come to the door.  On Fridays, you could hear the fish man yelling, "Herrings alive!  Herrings alive!" and we'd take our plate to his van and buy a few fresh herrings or other fish.  On Tuesdays and Fridays, the co-op van would come into the estate and we could go down to it and shop for our staples like dish soap, toilet paper, canned goods, etc.  Of course, the bread man came every day and it was terrible if I saw Billy come as I'd go out and say, "Billy, pull out your drawer." and out would come that long, long drawer filled with many "sinful" items like apple cream tarts, etc.  And the milk man came every day as well and we'd have to make sure we got the milk in early with the tin foil tops on the pint bottles or the rooks and other birds would come and peck at the tin foil and then drink the cream!  The butcher came three times a week.  Sometimes I miss this way of life so much.  (sorry for the long winded post!)  Oh, yes, and you can't forget about the lemonade man.  He'd come through the estate with all kinds of pop!

Well, I'm off to phone the Income Tax dept. again.

I'll be back a little later to say "Hi" to you all.

My medical card will pay for all the costs. Praise the Lord. Smoking for 50 years weighs healivly on me at this time.

Janet it was so nice talking with you on Messenger this morning. God bless you Sister for all your prayers.

Well I am ready for work and still have a hour to wait before I leave. I'm going back to the lady I want to quit working for. I still haven't heard how many hours I need tobe at Bea's. So I can't work overtime just in case. Last week I was with her way overtime.

5 p.m.

Hi there....I'm back.  Had a lovely ride up the road the precinct.
As usual on a Friday afternoon the traffic was horrendous...and once again I was surprised at how many drivers stop at the lights and still don't think to call me across the road on my scooter..........Angels have rescued me on more than one  occasion.

Anyway I did negotiate safely and went to the greengrocers for cauliflower, carrots and some salad vegetables..........plus a few items such as washing up liquid which they sell at a good price £1 U.K. for two bottles of Concentrated type., Following this I popped over to the little Saver shop and bought some Christmas cards at a good price and a nice big tin of Talcum powder.

Pat, when I first visited my family in Lincolnshire there was no electric light....Later when I moved to live with My grandmother in Keelby village in that county, we had a lovely time.....The Co-operative delivered twice a week with groceries and the butcher came on two other days each week.  My "Nanna" loved baking and she entertained the delivery men very well indeed!........She was always busy baking.
Looking back those were the happiest days of my life!.......
A dear cousin, Roger tells me that the village is now part of Grimsby and has altered so much, time doesn't stand still does it?

Is Fleetwood near Lytham St. Anne's Chris and Margit?  I love that part............The "elite" used to retire to there years ago......the poor man goes to Blackpool for his holidays, which is nearby folks...A great place for the funfare.  Recently there is talk of making Blackpool the Las Vegas of England, with gaming houses etc.
Anyway have a great time this weekend Chris and Margit.,

I will pray for you re Monday's appointment Marilyn. Give my love to Bea.  You are so kind to her, taking her for a meal.  I am glad she has you as her carerand friend.

Now I really must go as I have a meal to cook.  Just Corned Beef Hash with cauliflower and carrots and gravy.  If Chris wants a pudding there may be some banana cake left.
I will follow with a Cappucino.  I seem to have a passion for this coffee lately......BUT I still drink plenty of tea Pat!

The Lord Bless and Keep you all,
Bye for now,
Til Later.
(dag dag, tot straks Ria).

Jenny.

HAHAHAHA!  Chris, you are so funny!  It was the same everywhere back in the 1960's.  I went up to Aberdeen and the little vans drove through all the housing estates there and my aunt went out with her shopping bag and got her goods!   ;)

And then in Chester, my great aunt there went almost daily on the bus into the city centre to get goods due to no refrigerators.  She would rather have done it this way due to the fact that the goods from the small butcher vans, etc. always charged a bit more!  But she didn't realize that her bus fare daily made up for that "penny here and a penny there".

I remember one day having an invite to go to the new SuperMac supermarket on the other side of Belfast!  It was so neat to see this "huge" supermarket!  It was so small!   ;)

I'm amazed now when I go over at the huge supermarkets everywhere over there.  And my brother-in-law has a freezer the same size as I have out in his garage!

Yes, primitive!  It was really after leaving Canada in 1962.  But I miss it now!

The first fridge I saw with the freezer at the bottom and the fridge at the top was in my sister-in-law's home in Lisburn in 1992!  I thought that this was the neatest thing as you use the fridge much more than the freezer!  Now I have one and they are very common here in Canada.

Now, it's "primitive Canada"!   ;D

Look after your "hurricane", Chris!  She's very special! :)

Marilyn, thanks for the information!  I'll continue to pray for you.

Jenny, thanks for that!  I love to hear about the "good old days!"  And they were too!  At first, because it was so different from what I had left behind in Canada, I really disliked it and got very, very homesick.  I could live there now very easily.

Jenny, when you speak about the "Precinct", what are you talking about?

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

Take my life, and let it be consecrated, Lord, to Thee.
Take my moments and my days; let them flow in ceaseless praise.
Take my hands, and let them move at the impulse of Thy love.
Take my feet, and let them be swift and beautiful for Thee.

Take my voice, and let me sing always, only, for my King.
Take my lips, and let them be filled with messages from Thee.
Take my silver and my gold; not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect, and use every power as Thou shalt choose.

Take my will, and make it Thine; it shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart, it is Thine own; it shall be Thy royal throne.
Take my love, my Lord, I pour at Thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself, and I will be ever, only, all for Thee.

Yes, mom I'm feeling much better today.  I slept most of the morning after taking Jennifer to work.

I almost wonder if the worst of the storm is over.  All I'm seeing right now is heavy rain.   There hasn't really been bad wind here.

Hi Sue...

We've had heavy winds and it's still raining here.  I see on the weather channel that down near Kingston and near Ottawa there are severe wind warnings and many are without power.

I guess you just never can figure out the route these storms are going to take!

Pat ~ You always seem to be busy.  I agree, 'So much to do and such a little bit of time'.

Janet ~ Thanks for the comment on the colorful post.  I hadn't done it for awhile and felt a need to do it yesterday.

Ria ~ I pray the prayers for your father and son are answered prayers.

Jenny ~ I know you are happy with your entry now.  I tend to do things like that when they are very unplanned.

Jeanne ~ Great that your daughter and family are safe from Isabel.  I haven't had on the TV today.  I don't know what the damage is so far.  I must have missed something.  Did you find the 'Normal' button on your dryer and why?

Nancy ~ I got the 'C-nile' virus email this week also.  Very funny.  One virus I can relate to.  Hope you get the job, too.

JudyB ~ I sure didn't realize that the winds from Isabel were going to Ontario.  It is cool today here...64° and overcast.  But not much wind.

Papa John ~ Yes, there are a lot of turning points in our lives.  But at the time, we didn't realize they were turning points.  I have had a happy life...I didn't know Jesus then but he knew me.  Now that I know the Father and His Son, I do believe I had guidance from the time of my birth.  He knew me before that, right?

Sarah ~ Glad you stopped in to say hi.  We all truly miss you here.  Come back more often!!!

Elizabeth ~ Thank you for the comments about my 'wise sayings'.  They come from a Barbara Johnson calender.  I really like her books also.

Judy Mc ~ Hi.  I haven't seen you in here much lately.  Come back, also.

Ruthie ~ I see you were 'testing' your bed last night also.  Did it test out okay?

Sue ~ I am praying that everyone is safe from Isabel and her extending arms.

Cami ~ I am praying you and your husband has a great visit with his mother.

Jane ~ I agree with you on the assessment of the new photo you put up of Pastor Bev.  She is smiling as if she is really seeing Jesus Christ.

Jen ~ I hope the winds have died down now.  Wind can do terrible things.  I pray all is safe in Ontario.

Larry ~ It is chilly here today.  Since I wrote that it is overcast in a post above, it has turned sunny now.  But I did turn off the A/C.  Even I was getting a little chilly in here.   :o  I wish I could find a place for water aerobics near here.

Marilyn ~ I am so happy that your rat problem is taken care of.  Three!!!  I get cold chills thinking about 1 rat in my house.  I know I would have to deal with the problem but would prefer just moving away if that happened here.  I am surprised that not even a mouse has been in here in almost 2 years.

Chris ~ Hurricane Margit, indeed!!!  Don't you know she is doing all that work now so she can spend quality time with you?

Hello all!!  wE are having gorgeous weather here in Western North Carolina.  A little wind yesterday was all we got of Isabel.  Thank goodness.

Sorry I haven't been in in a couple of days.  Busy, busy, busy.  It seems to go in spurts around here.  Right now Travis is napping nicely, and I am thinking of joining him.  We'll see.

Take care all

Thanks so very much for your prayers on behalf of me and my Income Tax problem.  I've been working out a plan with them that is suitable to both and I think we've done it today.

Thanks again!

Now, I'm on my way to my "baby son's" 35th birthday!  Rebecca iced a cake for him!

What a lovely "Welcome Graphic", Etta Sue!  Did you make that with Paint Shop Pro?

I am home from work now, went to both jobs today since when I got to the first one she informed me that they were leaving in 1 1/2 hours to go somewhere. I wish I had known ahead of time that is twice this week that i have been shorted on my hours. So Then I went to Bea's place to check up on her. I had to run to the drugstore to pick up some meds for her.

When I went out to my car I discovered I had left the lights on after driving throughthe fog. Godd thing I went out when I did or the batterry would have been dead.

Got home and vacummed the house and cleaned my desk, washed the screens on TV and monitor.

Welcome to Kevin and Duckie.  It is true I do know these people.  One is my son and one is my daughter.

So glad they are now on CP and now Kevin can put some of his great pictures on.

Love Ruthie ;D ;D ;D

Speaking of "c-nility"!! I forgot my daily meds yesterday and called to let my boss know I'd be late since I was nearly to work when I realized my error.

Yesterday was his birthday.

"Hello"

"Hello, Jim. I just thought I'd tell you that, in honor of your birthday, I had a senior moment and forgot my medications, so I'll be in as soon as I retrace my steps!"

We got a good laugh out of that, then later I took him to lunch. He's a FINE man - and great boss.

Ruth Ann, your boss sounds like fun to work for.

But don't make a habit of forgetting your meds.   :-\

Marilyn, I'm so glad you seem to be at the end of the "rat saga".   But they were a lot easier to get rid of than your nosy landlords back in the desert, huh? ;D

We had some rain last night and this morning rain and strong winds.  By late morning the rain had stopped and the sun was shining, although the wind was still blowing pretty good.  If I had known, I could have put at least part of my laundry outside instead of doing all five loads in the dryer.  Oh well, thank the Lord I have a dryer. :D

Okay Marilyn, since you dealt so handedly with your rat situation, will you come to NC and take care of the mouse that seems to be living in my Jeep Cherokee????  :-\ :o ::) :-\

Oh, Karma!  I really don't like mice!

Have you ever been driving and you start to think of something like a mouse and what would happen if there was one in the car while you were driving?  And what if that mouse while you were driving decided to run up your leg?  I thought about that tonight coming home from Andrew's as I had been eating some peanuts and dropped one on the floor and thought, "Mouse food!"

Amazing how your thoughts run wild when you let them.  I was sure that there was a mouse in my car tonight.

Well, we had a lovely time with Andrew and his little family and Terena's parents.  The meal was good and the cake was lovely that Rebecca decorated!

Pat and Karma. Put some peanut butter on a mouse trap and set it in you cars. They can steal cheese but not peanut butter.  ;D :o
Send me a ticket and I will come and take care of your mouse. Mind if I bring my dogs. :P?

Marilyn, wish I could send you a ticket!  That would be so nice to see you--even if you were the exterminator!!!  (sp?)

Hi Trish!  Sorry you are having surgery, girl!  If it's not one thing, it's another!  Now, look after yourself, ok?

Well, it's time again...

This month is just racing by.  Can you believe that it's actually the 20th???

I had a friend pass away early this morning.  She was ill for only about 8 weeks and now is with her Heavenly Father in glory!  Praise the Lord for that.  But she's going to be missed by her lovely family.

Her son is a pastor in Arkansas and is in the Toronto area for the week.  His mother and I were friends from our teenage years.  Sad when a close friend passes away.

And now, please post in the new topic for September 20th!
