Morning Devotional...

Consider Him that endured such contradiction of sinners against Himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
Hebrews 12:3

I once heard a marathoner tell how there comes a point in a race when the runner "hits the wall," meaning that his body cannot go on, and every muscle is crying out to give up.

He said that at that point it is the mind that will determine if the race will continue.

So it is spiritually. If our minds have not been disciplined and directed by the Word of God on an ongoing basis, when we "hit the wall" in our spiritual life, we will fail.

May we determine to fill our minds with His Word, and so to discipline our thought life in such a way that we will have victory in the crises of life.                                                                                                                                                                                                --Wm. Burnett

May The Mind of Christ My Savior
(Click to here music)

May the mind of Christ, my Savior,
Live in me from day to day,
By His love and power controlling
All I do and say.

May the Word of God dwell richly
In my heart from hour to hour,
So that all may see I triumph
Only through His power.

May the peace of God my Father
Rule my life in everything,
That I may be calm to comfort
Sick and sorrowing.

May the love of Jesus fill me
As the waters fill the sea;
Him exalting, self abasing,
This is victory.

May I run the race before me,
Strong and brave to face the foe,
Looking only unto Jesus
As I onward go.

May His beauty rest upon me,
As I seek the lost to win,
And may they forget the channel,
Seeing only Him.

Ruth Ann Bice

Hi, Soni,

A beautiful beginning for our "new day with the Lord."

I finally felt well enough to post late in yesterday's thread, so thought I'd put a link in just in case someone would like to read of my good day yesterday.

http://christianphotographers.com/community/index.php?topic=3346.msg59273#msg59273

In the meantime, y'all have a wonderful day today!

Ruth Ann
...his compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Jenny

Thank-you Soni,

Wonderful hymn., It's one of my favourites. Thanks also for the inspiring  devotional  "Let the beauty of Jesus be seen in me," Let me be a living witness to His Glory.  Amen.

Ruth Ann.
Oh my word.  Well done sister! Your boss knows he has a jewel in you.  I am glad you are getting recognition for the many years of hard work and loyalty to this company. Somehow I can understand how hard it is for you to slow down. Bye the bye...I am so pleased you are getting better after the dental problems, reaction to medication etc.,

Marilyn.  What is the Lord doing with Gloria?  I know it's not for us to question Him.  She seemed to have a more kindly attitude towards you for a couple of days and then off she goes again.  You are her battering ram.  That is so unkind.  I am praying for you dear one. Will your Landlord not recompense you re the damaged food?  If you don't ask you don't get and he did say the fridge would be repaired. He will claim all this back on the insurances which landlords have, believe me.

Another rainy day here.  It's pouring down at the moment and the skies are dark and overcast and it's cold, cold, cold.

Time for my second cup of tea...decaffe of course.  I don't take any caffeine Ruth Ann.  I have gotten used to the decaffeinated tea.

Will close for now and listen to the news updates re the hostage situation.

The Lord bless you all.
Jenny.

Jenny

If all my years were Summer, could I know
What My Lord means by His "Made white as snow."?

If all my days were sunny, could I say,
"In His fair land He wipes all tears away"?

If I were never weary, could I keep
Close to my heart, "He gives His loved ones sleep"?

Were no graves mine, might I not come to deem
The life eternal but a baseless dream?

My Winter, and my tears, and weariness,
Even my graves, may be His way to bless!

I call them ills, yet that can surely be
Nothing but love that shows my Lord to me
!

Good Day to all:

Jenny:  How true in the poem you posted.  If all our lives were rosy, so many would forget the gifts that are so freely given.  Enjoy your cuppa tea.  I usually fix a pot of tea in the afternoon but have coffee in the morning.

Well, we have snow in the foothills and a bit of a cloud bank.  I remember Soni posting a week or so ago about snow flurries in her area.  Several weeks ago, some enterprising young people were able to ski in this state in very early September.  This won't last at our altitude as the temps are warming up at the end of the week and thank goodness as we have a planned camping trip.

It has been a grim ending for the last hostages, I haven't read about it but saw headlines and don't know about the British hostage.  Lord, help us to understand.

Carol

Marilyn

Good Morning: Thank you Soni for the devotional this morning.

Jenny: Yes it does seem as if there is a war going on within her, good vs bad. She is sure having a difficult time with this going on in her mind. We have discussed it at length and she tells me she wants counseling. Willa was going to counsel her until it was all complaints about me, Willa told her all she could do about that was to pray for both of us. The people at church who KNOW me will not believe the things she says. There other issues that would be more subject to counseling. Things it would not be proper for me to discuss here. She has problems and a lack of understanding.  TMI

I do hope I get another fridge or this one fixed once and for all.

I look forward to hearing from Pat and Janet about thier visit.

Anthony if you look in How is your Mum?

Got to get ready for work now.

God is so good.  I sit in awe at all He is doing in our lives, and wonder what pleasant surprise will be next.

We had 2 ladies from Nigeria speak at our WM last night.  We "women" in North America think we have it tough.  The ladies work and teach in a Widows School.  These young women are widows because 1.  Their husband has kicked them out, 2.  Their husband has died or 3. They are not married.  The husband's father and brothers get everything if the husband dies, that includes the home, children, and all posessions. One young lady (her name neans Wednesday) went to the Widows School as her husband put her out.  She was there three and a half years, and has been told she must return to her husband or marry ta man her brothers  say to marry The church and society say she MUST return to her husband, even though he has other wives.  Divorce is strictly forbidden, and the church applies the same pressure to return to the husband as the Nigerian society.  A woman who refuses to return to the husband (if he didn't die) is ostrisized in all of her dealings, as she is considered a prostitute.  It is so sad the testimonies we heard.  All the missionary ladies can say is "You need to go to God and wait for His answer, and find His peace with the decision you make"  They fully expect her to go back to the husband, who has 4 other legal wives.

Our society, I think, in North America look too lightly on divorce, but here in Nigheria they go to the opposite extreem.  In saying that I mean no insult to those who are divorced, as only God knows the full circumstances, and it is not for us to judge.  We need to remember that other cultures are totally different.

Just before the ladies came to the meeting Wednesday's daughter 8 yrs old died.  They don't know the details, she was healthy when they left, and they are wondering if she was poisoned.  Aparently poisoning is the common means of getting rid of the unwanted, and the government does nothing about it.

It is a wake up call to us in this country, we really have a good life, even with all the difficulties we face.

Etta Sue

Ruth Ann, you wear me out just listening to you and all your work and traveling.  I love to travel.....but.

Marilyn, Jenny is right.  You won't be compensated for your lose of food unless you ask.  You were confident that the fridge was fixed so you purchased food to put in it.  Then it broke again.  That isn't right.  You pay rent and the landlord should compensate.  I sure hope you find your own place soon and can get out of renter's paradise.

Sonja, a great devotion this morning....thank you.

Larry, you mentioned about my clean slate from the Urologist.  She is a tiny little lady but very compassionate.  It is always comforting when I hear her say, 'Everything looks good'!

JudyB ~ Again, no matter how hard we have it, it could be worse.  I can't imagine living anywhere else but America.

I just know that Pat, Janet and Darrell are having a great time.  Is Ruthie there, too?  I don't realize that if she is.

I planted all my plants yesterday....8 Hibiscus that will have dinner plate size blooms...3 Clematis that will be different colors and one Butterfly Bush that will have white, pink and purple blooms.  All perennials so I won't have to replant next year!!!  After that I mowed.  Some of my grass is still quite green and was tall....some was brown and I could almost hear it crinkle as I drove over it.

I had my front inside door open last evening.  I heard a commotion.  Both of my girls were at the door trying to get this tiny frog that was plastered to the glass of my full-view door.  He knew he was safe...just stayed right where he was.  Inky was really getting frustrated.  She didn't understand why she couldn't move the little guy!  So funny!

Hi everyone.  I didn't go walking before coffee this morning so went afterwards.  That sort of takes up most of the morning so haven't gotten much accomplished.  Don't have anything on the schedule this afternoon so will probably take a nap.  We will go to the church for dinner this evening , Vespers, and then choir practice.  So that makes it a rather long evening.

It is another beautiful day here in Georgia with not a cloud in the sky.

Etta Sue, I saw a posting a few days ago saying that Ruthie was going to be going with Pat.  Glad you got your planting in the ground.

Marilyn, sorry about your continued refrigerator problems.

JudyB, we really know very little about what happens in other countries.  Some of the things are very shocking.

Carol, when the snow flurries begin it must mean that colder weather is close by.

Jenny, the situation in Iraq is very disturbing.  Our local television stations are camped outside the home of the poor family in Marietta, Georgia (a suburb of Atlanta).  It is a shame they cannot let this poor family grieve without being under the scruitiny of the media.

Ruth Ann, nice to read of your recognition and of things going better for you.  Glad you were able to eat some regular food.

Sonja, thanks for the devotional and hymn this morning.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Revival: Unity Precedes Blessing

Now the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one
soul; neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed
was his own, but they had all things in common. And with great
power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord
Jesus. And great grace was upon them all.
--Acts 4:32-33

..unity of mind on the part of the people of God precedes the
blessing. I have often heard people pray, "Oh Lord, send the Holy
Spirit that we may become a united people." That is all right
except it is precisely backwards. The Holy Spirit comes because we
are a united people; He does not come to make us a united people.
Our prayer should be more like, "Lord, help us to get united in
order that the blessing might flow and there might be an outpouring
of oil and dew and life." That's the way we should pray....

This teaches us that unity is necessary to the outpouring of the
Spirit of God. If you have 120 volts of electricity coming into your
house but you have broken wiring, you may turn the switch, but
nothing works-no lights come on, the stove doesn't warm, your radio
doesn't turn on. Why? Because you have broken wiring. The power is
ready to do its work with all the appliances in your home, but where
there is broken wiring, you have no power. Unity is necessary among
the children of God if we are going to know the flow of power.
Success and the Christian, 86-87.

"Lord, help us to get united in order that the blessing might flow
and there might be an outpouring of oil and dew and life. Amen."

Love Lifted Me
(Click to hear music)

?He was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, ?Lord, save me!? Immediately Jesus reached out His hand and caught him. ?You of little faith,? He said, ?why did you doubt??? Matthew 14:29-31

Words: James Rowe, 1912.
Music: Howard E. Smith

I was sinking deep in sin, far from the peaceful shore,
Very deeply stained within, sinking to rise no more,
But the Master of the sea, heard my despairing cry,
From the waters lifted me, now safe am I.

Refrain

Love lifted me! Love lifted me!
When nothing else could help
Love lifted me!

All my heart to Him I give, ever to Him I?ll cling
In His bless褠presence live, ever His praises sing,
Love so mighty and so true, merits my soul?s best songs,
Faithful, loving service too, to Him belongs.

Refrain

Souls in danger look above, Jesus completely saves,
He will lift you by His love, out of the angry waves.
He?s the Master of the sea, billows His will obey,
He your Savior wants to be, be saved today.

Refrain

Thanks for that lovely devotional, Soni.  That hymn is very high on my list.  It's a great prayer!

I finally got all the posts read for today so far.  Last night and this morning were times of frenzied activity for me.  My son in Oregon needed some money until a check comes in, and I was trying every which way to send him some.  I tried PayPal, but it simply wouldn't work for me.   Then, this morning, I called my Credit Union, and the gal there said, "yes you could do an elctronic funds transfer to his account, but it would cost you $15."  But then she suggested that if he had  one of the big banks that has branches everywhere, we could go to the local one and simply deposit money in his account up there!  So that's what we finally did, and he had it within about 15 minutes!  Then, about that time, I found out what I'd done wrong with PayPal, and now that's working too.  But the whole thing took up ALL my time for a few hours.

If I had gone downtown here and sent the money Western Union it would have cost almost more than I was sending, whereas the way we did it was totally free!

Marilyn

5:20 pm I am still waiting to hear from my landlord. Came home from work and cooked up most of the meat for dog food and threw away the rest, still have to scramble up over 1 doz eggs for dog food.

Frustrating day with you know who. I tried to be so nice and ask her not to smoke while I am in the car (her car), no dice. She is tired of hearing me complain about the smoke making me sick. Her neighbors up stair complanied to the about the smoke going into their bathroom when they turn on the overhead fan. The vents are linked. So now she is going to smoke in the bathroom. What am I to do? ??? I guess start taking days off until  wean her or she hires someone else which ever comes first. They are supposed to send out new names of caregivers inh October. Maybe I am complaining too much to you my brothers and sisters. Maybe I shouldn't even bree saying anything. If I am  please tell me and I will not say anymore. Also please forgive me. :'(

Papa John

We just got home a little while ago from our mid week Bible classes.  I have meant to tell you that my friend David was released from the hospital.  Tests indicated it wasn’t his heart but a case of acid reflux.

We went to a funeral home visitation today and tomorrow we go to the funeral.  I guess when you get my age more and more of your friends come to the end of their lives.  This man was a devoted Christian brother.

It was a year ago tomorrow that I went to the hospital with chest pains and was there for three weeks.  I have a lot to be thankful for.

Saturday we will drive over to Pigeon Forge for our week in our time share.  Last year because I was sick we missed our time there.

Congratulations Nards and Karma.  We have three daughters.  We think they are the best kind.

Good to see everyone today.
