A LITTLE GIRL GIVES THANKS
One cool autumn day, Bridgette hurried home from school.
"Mom!" she called as she opened the door of her house. "Is lunch ready? I'm starved!"
"Almost ready, dear," answered her mother.
"I just can't wait another minute--it smells so good. You fix the best lunches, Mother."
"Did you ever think that there is Someone else you should thank?" asked her mother.
"Do you mean Dad?"
"Of course we must thank your dad, for he works hard to give us our food, but I was thinking of the One who makes the plants grow."
"You mean God! Does He really give us all our food?"
"Yes," Mother answered. "When God made the earth, He thought of putting all these things here for our food. Now He sends the sunshine and the rain to make the fruit and vegetables grow until they are ready for us to eat."
"But God doesn't make our bread, does He, Mom?"
"Before people can make bread," Mother answered, "God must make the wheat grow, for bread is made of wheat ground into flour. All the things we eat must first be made to grow. That is why we pray a blessing, thanking God for our food."
"May I pray the blessing this time?" asked Bridgette.
Together they closed their eyes and folded their hands while the little girl thanked God in this way:
"Thank You for the food,
Thank You for the day,
Thanks for all things good,
To You, dear Lord, I pray.
Amen."
"It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord" (Ps. 92:1).

Thanks Sonja!
Chris...........
How interesting. I too am reading a book on prayer. John MacArthur's "Lord Teach Me to Pray".
"Prayer is not only an intimate privilage; it is also a passion. Relatively few passages in Scripture directly command us to pray, but many passages tell us how to pray. Most of what Scripture teaches about prayer is based on the assumption that a fervent desire for prayer will arise from every believer's heart. The deepest longings of a Spirit-filled heart flow out in prayer, and expressions of this longing for communion with God are illustrated in several Scriptures.................."
Pat.......
How nice of you to wish a great day to our Mexican friends. ;)
"Have a great day all you folks south of the border!"
Evening folks. I have had an interesting day in North Bay today. French and Art were cancelled and we had a good time talking instead. The younger kids had about an hour of phys-ed in playing socker in the church basement. A good time was had for all.
The nedication Melaura is on appears to be starting to work.
Sonya, I am sorry to hear of the CT scan. I will post in the prayer thread too.
We are all tired tonight, so I am going to bed, I will be back in the morning.
Good Morning....thank you Pat for that lovely devotional....
Sonja.....I will certainly be praying for you that God will give you His peace. I know the news is scarey...try to commit it to Him...knowing that He is fully aware of the news.
God Bless

'Follow Me!'
Luke Chapter 5 Verse 27
Each and every day for the Christian should be 'Thanksgiving Day' as we consider where He has taken us from and where our hope for eternity lies.
There is not one soul alive that deserves to be saved and nobody is worthy of having their sins cleansed. We are saved by grace, through faith and this is a gift from God.
God alone can change lives.
I was thinking this morning of the years that have passed since first I started praying for my family. They are still strangers to grace and to God.
It is my fault? Has my witness been so poor that they do not want to follow the God their Dad loves? Has my life made Christ unattractive to them?
I can only dream of what life would be like if all sitting at my table were united in Christ. My heart nearly explodes with joy at the prospect.
I will continue to persevere in prayer for them as long as I have breath in my body. If only they would hear the words of Jesus today as keenly as Levi heard them. I pray that one day we will all be found ploughing the same field.
'Follow me.'
Two simple words, yet life changing for Levi and thousands of others who have heard the same words throughout the centuries. He did not hang about. He left all, rose up and followed Jesus. This portion of Scripture is beautiful in its simplicity.
I wonder how much of my old life remains with me today. Have I truly 'left all behind?' I cannot think of anything today that I desire other than a closer communion with my Lord, yet I 'feel' so polluted and tainted with the grime of this world in which I live.
It seems as though I am stained with a pollutant that refuses to shift.
True, I long to be different and I long for a witness that shines in this dark world. It seems as though I have been seeking this all my days without making any progress.
I cannot but hang my head in shame as I consider how little I do in the Name of Jesus. I have let me Lord down on more occasions that I care to remember yet He bears not a grudge!
Will I ever attain the level of Christian living that I desire?
I, probably more than most realise the brevity of my time on Earth. I am constantly desiring a new start, a greater commitment and a mind and heart devoted to my Saviour.
There have been days when I have determined within myself to be more devoted to Christ. On such days I may have found my mind and soul saturated with spiritual blessings.
More often than not, having rested my head on my pillow expecting songs in the night, I have awakened the following morning with not a spiritual thought in sight!
Why is it that I let so much nonsense invade my thinking? Is this the norm or am I simply a poor example of what a Christian should be?
Levi took Jesus back to his own house and made a great feast for Him. The scribes and the Pharisees asked the question, 'Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners?' Jesus answered, 'They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.'
This last statement makes my heart rejoice.
I am in more need of my Saviour today than ever I was and I love Him more today than ever I did. On this 'Thanksgiving Day' morning I am happy to follow the One who is Altogether Lovely.
He has led me in ways that I could never have imagined, even through illness and pain and my affection has grown through my experiences.
'Follow me.'
Yea Lord, I will follow wherever You lead me.
The truth of the matter is this. I love my Saviour and I want the rest of the world to love Him also. Salvation is on offer to whosoever will. If I could pass it on or give it to you then I would.
If the imperfect love in my heart desires the salvation of your soul, how much more does the perfect love of Christ?
If you hear these words and accept them as Levi did, then 'Thanksgiving Day' will have a brand new meaning for you. I pray that will be the case.
'Follow me.'
LOL

I am still having serious problems with my "puter"...however, I sat before it a few minutes ago and prayed to the Lord to get me in to see you...I was also praying for my grandsons and my daughter and son and was feeling that I had let them down in my witness somewhere...wow, here is my dear Brother having the same feelings...
Iain God Bless you and thank-you. I was led to you for comfort and encouragement this day...

Sonja, travel safely. We'll be remembering you.
Happy Thanksgiving to those who are celebrating today and a big hi to everyone who stops by CP today to read and post. My wife and sister-in-law have spent many hours in preparation for the meal today and are back in the kitchen this morning. However, there isn't too much left to be done other than to put the turkey in the roaster oven and later to bake a couple of dishes that have already been prepared and are ready for the oven. We are expecting our son to be over after noon and we plan to eat about 2 pm.
I want to welcome Living Light to our forums. We are glad to have you to join with us as we praise the name of Jesus Christ and share with each other.
Sonja, I am glad to see you are finding peace with your situation. The unknown is always frightening but now you know the source of the problem and can move forward. I will be praying for you.
Pat and Iain, I appreciated the devotionals this morning.
Hello Larry.. :D
I got in here again...still no go anywhere else on the web or e mails folks..."Our God Reigns"....

Good morning. Sonja, I have prayed for you. I know that recently when I was in the hospital the prayers of Christian friends is what brought me through. God bless you.
We are getting ready to drive over to our daughter's house for our Thanksgiving dinner. She lives about 15 minutes away.
Ps 100:4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. (NIV)
It was good to see Mieka here last night.
I hope you all have a wonderful time today as we all thank God for our blessings. It is true that everyday is a thanksgiving day.

Good Morning to all and Happy Thanksgiving to all who live on this side of the pond and this side of the North American borders.
Thank you Pat and Iain for the devotionals today. I too have been praying for my family ever since I met Jesus 6 years ago. Some were already saved and some are still now saved. Gilbert and Sarah next door are the main target of my oprayers and the prayer of her parents. I stand on the scripture that says "the fervant prayers of a righteous man availeth much" I will continue to pray for them. I have laid them on the altar in front of the throne.
Sun is out right now and the rain is not supposed ot return until tonight. So it looks like the weather is cooperating so far.
I have had some beautiful photos from Alan (backpacker) by email. I hope he will share them here.
God Bless each one who visits here today.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING ALL!!!
A day of food!!!! I am praying that every day is a blessed day for all of you. Today, I have so much to be thankful for...Jerry--my Special Friend, my sister and her family, my brother and his family, my son and his family...and they did make it to Conneticut, my health even though I do have bladder cancer, my friends here and in cyberspace, my home, for food for nourishment and pleasure, and most of all, I am thankful that God loves me and I love God.
Sonja ~ I am praying for you and your family, little one!
It is raining and gloomy here today. We have already spotted 4 hunters going to the woods. That is a tradition in our family. Even when my husband was on crutches with a broken leg one year, he still got a rabbit. Glad that Mom dressed it and cooked it. I couldn't do that... ::) It is 46° so it could be worse out there. <:))))><<~~<:))))><<~~<:))))><<~~<:))))><<~~<:))))
"Keep sending out love messages. Even if you feel you are trying to hug a porcupine, keep sharing your heart!"HAVE A HAPPY TURKEY DAY!!!
I'm just on the way now to London. It's drizzly out so I hope it doesn't change to freezing rain.
I'll be back mid-evening.
Enjoy your turkey meals. I love turkey so send some my way!
Talk to you tonight.
I received this in an email this morning. It was a WOW moment.
Malachi 3:3 says: "He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver."
This verse puzzled some women in a Bible study and they wondered what this statement meant about the character and nature of God. One of the women offered to find out the process of refining silver and get back to the group at their next Bible Study.
That week, the woman called a silversmith and made an appointment to watch him at work. She didn't mention anything about the reason for her interest beyond her curiosity about the process of refining silver.
As she watched the silversmith, he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained that in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest, to burn away all the impurities.
The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot. Then she thought again about the verse that says: "He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver."
She asked the silver smith if it was true that he had to sit there in
front of the fire the whole time the silver was being refined. The man answered that yes, he not only had to sit there holding the silver, but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. If the silver were left a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed.
The woman was silent for a moment. Then she asked the silversmith, "How do you know when the silver is fully refined?" He smiled at her and answered, "Oh, that's easy - when I see my image in it."
If today you are feeling the heat of the fire, remember that God has
His eye on you and will keep watching you until He sees His image in you.
You may want to pass this on to someone who needs to know that God is watching over them. And, whatever they're going through, they'll be a better person in the end.

Strange, but it feels like Sunday today. In fact yesterday seemed like it should have been Saturday. :-\ I got up later than usual this morning and thought "I'll have to hurry if I'm going to get to church on time." ;D
This is very good.

Spiritual Warfare and Sin: Victory Assured
Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the
breaking of day. Now when He saw that He did not prevail against him
He touched the socket of his hip; and the socket of Jacob's hip was
out of joint as He wrestled with him.
--Genesis 32:24-25
The enemy never quite knows how to deal with a humble man; he is so
used to dealing with proud, stubborn people that a meek man upsets
his timetable. And furthermore, the man of true humility has God
fighting on his side--who can win against God?
Strange as it may seem we often win over our enemies only after we
have first been soundly defeated by the Lord Himself. God often
conquers our enemies by conquering us.... When God foresees that
we must meet a deadly opponent, he assures our victory by bringing us
down in humbleness at His own feet. After that, everything is easy.
We have put ourselves in a position where God can fight for us, and
in a situation like that, the outcome is decided from eternity. We
Travel an Appointed Way, 14.
"Lord, help me to submit willingly to You, in complete humility,
without struggle or wrestling. Then You fight for me against my
strong enemy. I'll rest-and revel-today in Your victory. Amen."

We don't hold Thanksgiving day here in the UK,
but we are thankful that the Lord sent the Pilgrims to you!

Another planeload of turkey passing over!
Thanks for the past three days of devotionals, Pat. Finally got a chance to sit down at the computer.
Thanks also to Iain for your posting. Find your messages a real blessing. Like you, Iain, I keep on praying even when results are not always clear. God works in His own time and our words and actions are noticed...
I liked what you said about Christmas Lee.
Sara, thanks for posting the poem. I have saved it to pass along to another teenager. We have similar troubles here in Canada....
Sonja, I will pray for you on a regular basis and trust the Lord to take care of your problem. God will hear many prayers coming from CP and we know that he listens.
Jenny, I am sorry to hear you are having so much trouble with your computer. Do you use a Anti-Virus and Firewall? I have so many attacks made on my computer. This has kept me safe so far.....Use Shaw Cable as my svce. provider. That is a Canadian thing!
Another dull and rain filled sky today. Perfect for finishing my Christmas Baking. Tomorrow I am going to take my digital camera to the kids and get a lesson on settings, etc. Find that my aging brain needs a jump start in order to master manuals!
God Bless and HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all USA folks.

Not many posts since the a.m. Everyone must be watching football or taking their nap after stuffing themselves.
Jerry and I had a wonderful time at Ivalou's with her kids and grandkids and even a granddog! Lydia is a doll. Just 4 years old. She is so much fun. We ate twice and then decided it was time to call it a day and came home.
I am still stuffed!!!
I am just now home from Eureka. I had a wonderful luch at Marie Callenders with Pastor, Marbeth and bea. got real stuffed there. Then I went to Sarah's parents house andthere isno way I could eat any more. I did have two small pieces of cheescake.. I will never pass up cheesecake. ;D I will post photos.
Oh I almost forgot to tell on Al. The Pastor forgot to pray over the food and I didn't remember either until dessert. So we prayed then.
See Al I told you I was gonna tell on you. ::)
Awwww... Marilyn, you're mean! Poor Al! LOL
Pat and Iain thanks for your devotional.
RUTH
Well, does it really matter when we thank God for our blessings, so long as we do thank Him? :-\
Our meat loaf dinner was delicious and we got just as stuffed as though it had been turkey! Then we watched the game shows and after that, of all things, "Stuart Little". What a cute movie that is.
(I could even begin to like mice a little bit if they were all like that movie, Jeanne!) :o
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Judy McK sent me a copy of this interesting article by Jerry Fallwell about Thanksgiving and asked me to post it but since it's really quite long, I thought a link would be better: http://falwell.com/confiden/index.htm
I loved that movie. I saw it in of all places Walmart, while I was waiting for the tires to be put on my car.
It's been real quiet here today with everyone gone away for the holiday. I sure do miss them.
don't you Pat.?
Yes, Marilyn, I sure do. I hope that they are all having a wonderful time with family and friends.
By the way, Marilyn, I love that new photo of you! It's super!
Thank you Pat, It's the same smile though. I guess my new hair color show up a little bit. I is more a golden blond, mixed with the brown. Highlights in 3-4 different shades.
Hi Everyone-
We had a wonderful dinner here at our house-nice and peaceful-funny I can say that with 4 little ones-they were really good-After Daddy said the Blessing ..I had each of us say a thankyou prayer about something..It was neat..After Dinner my sweet husband put up the artificial tree as requested and we decorated it..It looks very pretty..Now the house is all cleaned and I have to tell you something cute-Even though we don't believe in Santa Claus -Zac put the Christmas stockings on and marched around the house saying Santa Claus is coming to town..what a silly boy..
The kids have been watching movies and some Christmas shows-
Momma is getting tired-and I am going shopping at 5 am..so, I am going to go now and get some rest.
Hugs
Rachelle
Marilyn,
I like your new hair color-I need to do mine soon-right now it is lighter then in my photo but, I might change it back to my natural color for now.
Hugs
Rachelle
Rachelle, how was your turkey???
Reprehensible, Marilyn. Just reprehesible. (not me, silly - what you said about me).
HAHAHAHA! Al, now you leave Marilyn alone!
I have a long day ahead of me tomorrow, so now that I'm done trying to find some old posts for my mother(successfully I may add ;D), I think it is time to head to bed.
Good Night everyone, and for those of you in the United States, I hope your Thanksgiving was blessed and continues to be through the weekend.
Hello
hello
hello
Long day today. Two huge thanksgiving meals -- I'm stuffed. Travis has had fun though; he got to play with cousins on both sides of his family. At one point, he would climb up on a footstool, grab my hands, say "I'm SoupMan" (Superman), count "one two feeeee" then jump. He has no clue who superman is, he just heard his cousin Colby saying it, and was mimicking him. ;)
I hope your day was wonderful. If you celebrate Thanksgiving, I hope you had an awesome day. If you don't, well . . . .hahahaha, just kidding, I hope your Thursday was the best one ever!
Later!
karmat
Time to lock the door!
Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day!
