:) Quote of the Week

A man may read the figures on the dial,
but he cannot tell how the day goes
unless the sun is shining on it;
so we may read the Bible over,
but we cannot learn to purpose till the spirit
of God shine upon it and into our hearts.

Morning Devotional...

Jesus Gives the Great Commission
Luke 24:44-53 NLT

Then he said, "When I was with you before, I told you that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and in the Psalms must be fulfilled."  Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.  And he said, "Yes, it was written long ago that the Messiah would suffer and die and rise from the dead on the third day.  It was also written that this message would be proclaimed in the authority of his name to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem: 'There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent.'  You are witnesses of all these things.

"And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven."

Then Jesus led them to Bethany, and lifting his hands to heaven, he blessed them.  While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up to heaven.  So they worshiped him and then returned to Jerusalem filled with great joy.  And they spent all of their time in the Temple, praising God.

Jesus opened these people's minds to understand the Scriptures.  The Holy Spirit does this in our life today when we study the Bible.

Have you ever wondered what a difficult Bible passage meant?  Besides reading surrounding passages, asking other people, and consulting reference works, pray that the Holy Spirit will open your mind to understand, giving you the needed insight to put God's Word into action in your life.

Church was great.  Sunday School was great.  And food at O'Charley's was great!

Now to go to the Baby Shower and have a great time and more great food.

As for search engines, I use www.dogpile.com.  It uses Yahoo, Google, Bing and Ask.  It's never failed me to find what I am searching for except a Sudoku game that I think I download from the web.  Loved it and can't find it.  I miss it since Windows was re-installed on here.

I think I will be glad when this afternoon is over and I can relax.

Hi everyone.  It looks like we will have a week of beautiful weather, cool at night but up in the low 70s during the day.

We met our son and daughter-in-law at the Cracker Barrel in Madison, GA, which is about half way for each of us, just around an hours drive.  We had a lovely lunch and spent about 90 minutes visiting.  I had not seen them for at least a year.  Our son has lost over 50 pounds and looks great.  He wants to lose another 20 pounds.  He has a pretty large build, much bigger than I am, so this should put him at a good weight.  Unfortunately, our daughter-in-law is not feeling very good as she has walking pneumonia but is taking an antibiotic.  I think she was feeling better after a good meal and certainly looked better than when we arrived.  This was our Thanksgiving meal with them.

I didn't have a chance to rest during the afternoon and was pretty tired so went to bed very early.  I had shortness of breath all day yesterday and it continues today, but perhaps not as bad.  Fortunately I am not experiencing chest pain, for which I am very thankful. The only thing I plan to do today is attend my regular Monday men's luncheon.

Etta Sue, thanks for the devotional for this week.  The Dogpile search engine has been around for a long time and is a good one.  Hope you had fun at the baby shower.

Jeanne, you had us beat on the lower temperature.  Where I live is about 1100 feet above sea level.

It was a relief when the baby shower was over and I could sit and relax after 10 days of laptopping and crocheting!  I just about have the laptop the way I want it.  Need to save a few more items from the desktop and then all I have to do is go through all the un-named videos and re-name them.  That can be done a few at a time!

Tonight is Photo Guild.  I need to find their website and see if I can download some of my photos for their annual Christmas CD.  I lost them in the re-installing.

That's about it.  Not much news since last evening.

Right here, Janet.  Being thankful I didn't need to go out for anything yesterday and waiting today for the temperatures to rise, the sun to shine and the snow to melt away.  :D

I just remembered to ask you all to send me all your neat Power Point Slide shows.  I lost all that I had received in the last two years...since getting the laptop.  I am especially asking for the one about a mountain in China...real curvy mountain path!  Starts with a 't'. My email address is in my profile.

Nothing exciting today.  Staying home and watching TV and laptopping!  It is nice and sunny but I will wait until tomorrow to venture out!  Kind of nice to have nothing to do.

Ever since I got this laptop back, my cursor will jump around.  I will be typing away and it jumps back to the middle of a sentence or something.  Really have to keep an eye on it!  Grrr!  Always something!

Etta Sue:  I have a cursed cursor as well - jittery.  We sent for a new one.

Sleepy and it is probably from a long walk in the wind.  We can see the storm front coming & temp is dropping.  We are invited to neighbors house tonight for dinner & then we two gals will go to our quilt meeting while the guys play cribbage.  So much is just so social at the meeting and it just nice to be with everyone.  Some do knitting because we can't always haul our big projects and I don't like what I am doing right now.

Planning the food for Thanksgiving and that is because the store is a long drive from where we stay at the cabin.  Oldest son will smoke a turkey at his place and bring it over so that frees the oven.

Janet:  Are you getting some of our tumbleweeds?  They get pretty big here and are so annoying on the highway.  Hang on, the wind is coming your way.

Carol, we raise some big tumbleweeds here, too!  So we really don't need yours, but thanks anyway.  ;)  Yes, I heard it is to be colder and very windy here tomorrow.  Ugh.  What we really need is some moisture.

I worked really hard today; wound up working over 9 hours!  So I took a nap when I got home, had been awake since 4 AM.

Guess what Beth asked me to cook and bring to her?  Macaroni and tomatoes!  :o  Sure surprised me!  But I can surely do that for her.

What's with that missile fired off California???  And that cruise ship stranded 200 miles off shore?  Imagine 5000 people, and no working toilets!   :P  Bad.

Sorry about all of you who have snow.  We had temps in the high 70s today.

I am not blaming the computer fix-it people but my cursor didn't act up before fixing.  I don't keep the laptop crystal clean but I did notice that it was quit dirty when I got it back.  And I still have a label on it and it is really worn now!  Wonder how they treat other peoples things?  I popped a button off to clean under it and a laptops buttons are not as easy to put back on as a regular keyboard so I don't know what the solution is.  But I think it is dirty under the buttons.

I am all ready to go to the doctor today for myself.  A 6-month checkup after blood work last week.  Then for a half a salad at Wendy's and then swimming.  Want to get my swim in for the week.

It was 49 and windy this morning at 7:30 when I went for my chiropractic appointment, but has warmed up some now.  Still windy, though.

Etta Sue, sorry about your laptop troubles.  Since the laptop is all I have now, I sure hope it doesn't start acting up!

The new challenge sounds like fun.

Hi everyone.  It has been a busy day with coffee, Bible study and then having lunch with the group after a time at the donut shop.  I also went to Kohl's before lunch and purchased an eBook reader that they had on sale for a very good price, which if I keep it will be Pat's Christmas gift to me.  However, right now I can't get online with it.  I think there is a software update so will check that out.  Tonight I have choir practice and know after that will be exhausted as already feel tired.  I did rest awhile this afternoon.

Etta Sue, I think I know what your problem with the jumping cursor is.  When they redid your computer they turned the touch pad backon (if was probably off if you use a mouse instead of the built-in touchpad.  I had the same problem for a long time and then discovered this was the problem.  You may have a function key or software setting that will disable the touchpad and that would solve the problem perhaps.  Another thing you can do is use an old credit card or even a piece of cardboard about the size of a credit card and tape it over the touch pad.  It is very easy while tryping to let your thumb hit the touch pad and make the cursor jump around.  I hope that works for you.  On this laptop I don't have a problem with it due to the size of placement of the touchpad.

I have read all the messages but am behind so will stop for today.

Al, Darrel doesn't drink coffee--he's a tea drinker!

Busy day today, but nothing on the calendar for tomorrow, and I'm happy about that!

Beth called and asked me to make her some macaroni and tomatoes and bring to her, so I did.  Glad she asked for something easy!  :)

Hi everyone.  We are predicted to have another beautiful day.  At noon I will attend my retiree's luncheon.  It takes me about an hour to get there and an hour back but we meet only every two months.  I have had to miss the last two or three of these get togethers, which I really enjoy attending.

Pat has her special Bible Study class this morning.  Think that is about it for us today.  Yesterday I was able to buy a Pandigital ebook reader for just over $100.  I am sure it isn't as nice as the iPod but doesn't break the bank either.  It has an app tied to the Barnes & Noble bookstore and I was able to download samples of several books they have for sale, including the new George Bush book.  I was surprised at the extend of the same as it must be all of the first chapter.  This device has a 7" screen and weights a pound.  It has a browser and e-mail and a number of other apps and apparently you can make the operating system (Android) work a lot of other apps but that is for another day.  There is enough to learn about at the moment with what came with it.  I will check it out for several days and if I don't care for it will be able to return it to Kohl's.  We had a 30% off coupon and there was a $15 mail-in rebate that came with it.  It is also an mp3 player and has a pictures app.

Janet, hope Beth enjoyed her special dish that you made.  I thought you were going to say macaroni and cheese.  :)

Good morning  !!

I am off for the day to my daughter's; helping around her house (she has four children) and then to lunch and some other necessary duties in town.

We will remember to take at least two minutes at 11:00 A.M. for our troops and those who fought to give us the freedoms we enjoy today!!

I took off the space bar button and used a soft brush to clean there.  The cursor seems better now.  And the function key that Toshiba has doesn't seem to work now!!!  So I don't know how to turn off the touch pad without using the function key and f9.  Grrr!  Wish I had used the Toshiba recovery DVD!!

Today is our class lunch at a restaurant fairly near me.  An elegant restaurant.  Cloth napkins!  Hope we have a good showing.

There were 17 classmates and spouses yesterday at the Class of 1960 luncheon.  That's the most for us since having the guys and gals together.

Plans for today are getting outside and doing some pre-winter yard work.  I want to cut down butterfly bushes and hibiscus.  Then rake leaves out of my rock landscaping.  Then mulch the leaves with the mower.  I will be tired tonight!

Hi everyone.  Today was a beautiful day to live in Georgia.  After coffee and walking at the gym, Pat and I went to the county Senior Center and I participated in a two year audit of the financial records of the computer learning center.  Then we went to Atlanta and had lunch with our daughter at the Mellow Mushroom Pizza place.  I think that may be the best pizza I have ever eaten.  We visited with her an hour or so and then came home and I took a nice nap.

Etta Sue, did you see what I suggested about covering up the touch pad on the laptop as that might well solve our problem.  I used that on a computer for a long time and it really worked.

RuthV, it sounds like you had a busy day yesterday.

Jeanne, it is a shame that our President managed to be out of the country on Veteran's Day but understand he did visit with some soldiers in South Korea.

Janet, it was interesting to see some of the folks on the cruise ship discuss their experience.  At least they got their money back for this cruise plus being given another.  It sounds like they all survived but sure they will not soon forget the experience.

I just baked a loaf of bread for a neighbor & her incapacitated hubby and they are not home so I left a message.  I also baked two loaves of banana cranberry bread the bottoms stuck on them so they are ugly but tasty.  Tomorrow, two neighbors are coming for biscuits and sausage gravy - they are southern so they love it when Don makes that breakfast.  Then, we will take youngest son out for birthday late lunch (with his wife).

We bought another new mouse for this laptop and it isn't accepted either.  This is just pitiful.  Oh, I downloaded the latest book from George W. Bush from the library and transferred it to my iPod.  Love techie stuff when it works.  Free from the library.

Larry:  Would love to try your pizza place.  Make mine veggie or mushroom - Don likes pepperoni.  Yep, it is a shame - and these are the oddest of times.  Here, it has been freezing cold and I think we are about to get more snow.  There is a food drive for Scouts to pick up tomorrow.  The downtown Rescue Mission is way short on turkeys this year, I mean over 3,000 short.  Our church had something going where they help the homeless get into an apartment & set them up so a lot of effort is going into that - my neighbor said she bought presents to wrap that the children can give each parent a gift.  No doubt it may be the first time that these children have given their parents any gift.

It has been a long time since I was last here but I think this is the season for computers, yes ours got suddenly very tired and the best solution was a replacement most parts are new but a couple are saved or traded for a near new one the old tower was used but when I arrived to pick it up, and following a little conversation I ended coming home with a new tower (smaller than the old one) as it did work better with the new installation.   Upon arriving home and plugging everything in there was a pop up letting me know that it would not accept the keyboard and or mouse.  Sue tried to solve the problem - did not work I have lost or misplaced my discs. After a nights rest and thinking I  unplugged each one at a time and found the mouse to be the problem, my dear sweet daughter called me and instead of doing her office work she talked me through the download from the Micro soft web site now all is well and no pop up messages.

The next day I had to take the van for nitrogen in the tires yes a problem there the tires were on the wrong way so I sat for 3 hours waiting for that. A good thing while there I met an old friend that I had not seen for many years what a joy to chat.    I also had to stop at the cell phone store to find out how to use the text messaging a line up there but a customer was able to help me.    I then picked up Auntie and had supper at Wendy's.

Today I went to Schomberg a little town up the hwy. 15 min drive I think and there I met an old neighbour from when we lived in Woodbridge, 20 minute drive to the south of us.

Although this has been a time of being too busy I have connected with past friends.

I cannot recall who went to see the movie Secretariat and thought it good.  Hubby & I saw it just before all of the above started to happen, It was a wonderful movie.   Again they had problems getting it started on time and as a result we were given credit to another at there expense another time.  It was a late start in the first place so it was even later perhaps 1/2 - 3/4 of an hour. It was well worth the wait.

Time to call it a night

Hi everyone.  I see I am again the first to visit here today.  I plan a pretty quiet day.  Shortly will have coffee with my friends, then attend a meeting, and finally will watch a lot of football this afternoon and evening and work with the ebook and computer and hopefully read some.

Carol, the bread sounds delicious.  I was thinking this morning that the pizza we had yesterday did not have sauce on it but was crust, cheese and meat.  I didn't think about it at the time and will confirm with my wife later.  It was delicious as I said yesterday.  I have never had a problem with a mouse as usually after I reboot the computer it finds new hardware and guides me through the software setup.  I can't remember whether I had a software disk, downloaded software, or it was a part of Windows to have the necessary drivers.  Hope Don can figure out the problem.

Ruth, you have been a busy lady.  It is nice to have a faster computer and also a joy to have time to visit with friends and family.  We have not seen Secretariat yet but everyone says it is a great movie.

Ruth, your day sure had its ups and downs!   :D

Yesterday I received a surprise package from my daughter with four pairs of jeans she had bought for me at her local Goodwill store.

She also enclosed keys to her vacation house so I could go there (25 miles) to open the doors of the empty refrigerator they had forgotten and left closed after emptying it.  A good friend from church went along with me for the ride and we had about an hour of fun fellowship and conversation.

Now here I sit today wearing a pair of my "new" jeans, with no special plans until it's time to leave for our annual Veterans Dinner.

Larry ~ Yes, I read where you suggested covering the touch pad.  I am not sure that is the problem but sometimes I think it is...me touching the touch pad while typing.  Seems when I type slower the cursor doesn't jump around!  Also Toshiba has a Function button that when you depress it and then hit F buttons, different things happen.  Function + F6 or F7 will lighten or darken your monitor screen.  It does.  But Function + F9 is to disable and enable your touch pad.  It doesn't!  Oh how I wish I had used the Toshiba Recovery DVD when the Windows was re-installed!!

Ruth ~ It was me that saw the movie 'Secretariat'.  Wasn't it wonderful?

Well, I did pick up limbs.  I cut butterfly bushes and hibiscus down.  I took all of that to the woods and put on the burn pile.  Then I raked some leaves out of the rock landscaping and then 'mulched' the leaves in the yard with the mower.  I was filthy and tired!

My mind said today to dust, move furniture in the living room and sweep.  My back and sides say 'wait'.  I am waiting.

But doing some laundry.  How can one person have so much dirty laundry??

No cursor jumping around while typing this!

I too have not posted for a few days. Not much going on around hr, it has rained then the sun came out off an on all week long more sun than rain at times, when it did rain it was a heavy rain. I have also  been taking  special care of Happy as he was sick for over a week, loose BM's and not eating, I 'm sure he lost more wieght. Now I am tyrying to fatten him up since he is eating again by cooking  for him and feed him  several times per day.

My hand is improving a little more each day and I am getting in a better workout now that I have this removable cast, No I do not remove it when I go to the Fitness Center. I need to take it off today and wash it but I will put on the other brace to protect my thumb and wrist.

My day was a lot slower than in the past although I did go to a store in the next down and purchased a casual suit  I would have liked to wait until the middle of next week but I also realized that the slack size I would need might be gone why wait, There was no suggestion of more coming in.   I am pleased with my purchase
it is navy slacks and a navy jacket.

Also I did a little detective work by means of couple of phone calls it turned out that they were my guide to not go ahead with my plans.

I did a couple loads of laundry a sink full of dishes.  Now I am going to boil some water for a lovely cup of hot chocolate.

Marilyn:  It is good to know that your hand is getting better.
Larry:  Do you go for coffee 7 days a week?
Janet:  Where you called into work today?

Not much to say since posting last evening.

I am ready for church.  Ivalou is going with me and we will probably go somewhere to eat.

Hi everyone.  A beautiful Sunday but some clouds and rain is on the way for the next couple of days.  We did not go to church this morning as after a brief service some of the congregation is go in the community to do special projects.  Our choir is going to two nursing homes to sing and visit with some of the patients who receive few visitors.  They will have lunch together between the two events. While I would have liked to participated I just am not up to doing that for so long as singing is really beginning to wear me down.  So Pat and I decided to do something we very seldom do except when traveling and that is to go out to brunch.   We have a two for one couple at iHop and they have good food so we will be going there in a little while.  That is the plan for today.

Ruth, I only go to coffee six days a week since we all attend church on Sunday so don't meet then.  On Friday's we go to the local senior center where some additional men often join us and the other five days we go to McDonald's for about an hour each morning.  We have a great time, enjoy the conversation and always find some things to laugh about.  It is a great start to the day.

I am reading a new book by Gail Sheehy.  It is called "Passages in Caregiving - Turning Chaos Into Confidence".  I think it is a wonderful book and would be so helpful to someone facing the role of the caregiver.  She experienced this herself when her husband suffered throat cancer over a 17 year span.  She tells her own story and that of others as well as providing a world of references to various resources available to help caregivers.  I wish I had read something like it before going into the caregiver stage with my parents as believe it would have helped a lot.

Marilyn, glad to read that your hand is improving and also that your dog is getting better.  I know a sick animal can be a frustration and cause for concern.

Etta Sue, it sounds like you did enough yard work to wear you out.  Take a day to rest.

21 degrees F. this morning when we left for church.  Sunny though.  Today's sermon was difficult to understand but the main message is what I got so that is always good.  Daughter & family went to church after a hiatus of several months - praise.

I started using the paraffin hand spa again & set it on the dryer.  We bought it after Don's hand surgery years ago and now use it when the aches begin in chilly weather.

Marilyn:  You might consider getting a paraffin hand spa from the drug store - it does help the aches & no doubt you will have future aches from any surgery.  Glad it is getting better.

Larry:  Glad that you and Pat could enjoy brunch today.  Our Sunday routine is the same - we drive home and Don fixes breakfast.  I like the writings of Gail Sheehy so will try that book one day as well.  I don't consider myself a caregiver now but I do much if not all of the communication and other things since Don's hearing distortion last year.  Of course, he still does so many other things around the house.  Life is different.

Many of our neighbors have spouses with dreadful diseases  and I marvel at their care giving.

Darrel and I just got home from Salina.  We went up yesterday so we could see grandson Addison in his high school musical.

It's that time again!    Here is the new page! (http://www.christianphotographers.com/community/index.php?topic=11129.0%20/url)
