  • Prayer and Praise     Thanks for visiting this area of our site to share prayer requests and items for praise!

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:

God can change a ruler, God can remove a ruler, and God can overrule a ruler.

You ask, ?Should I pray for my leader if he?s wicked?? You ought to pray all the more for him. Why?  Because the Bible says, ?I exhort therefore, that first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men; for kings and for all that are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life, in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior.? 1Timothy 2:1-3

The greatest responsibility in America is not in the White House but in the church house. We?re to pray for our government. Pray for those who are in authority.

ACTION POINT:

Would you pray for America right now? You might pray, ?Oh God, bless America. Lord, we deserve judgment, but we need mercy. Bring this nation, Lord, back to You. The troubles that we see in our land are tokens of Your love to bring us to our knees. Lord, it?s beyond us. God, we need You in America.?

Hi, friends,

It has been a good day to worship. I  have begun watching a wonderful, live streamed church service on computer. Today was a great patriotic program.

For those of us who live in America, we need to remember that Christianity was the basis for our government and its laws.

May God lead us through His word.

Love to all,
Ruth Ann

Good Monday morning, yes I am still in the land of the living, just not much to talk about, I know, I know, you are saying, that makes a change....

I got out of bed in a hurry this morning and put out my early morning empty vegi box for collection only to come indoors, then remember today is not Tuesday, so back to bring the box in...and to think I didn't need to rush to get out of bed in such a panic, the delivery man comes between 7.15 and 7.30, I woke up 6.40 this morning...an hour or so later than my norm...

Thank you Larry Hanna and Janet on my link....The Resume Of Jesus Christ....just happy that it never went unnoticed... ;)

Metal man just turned up 15 minutes ago 10.am, no warning he was coming but...he is here to put my metal handrail in...let us hope this time round he doesn't fit it then reconnect it to take away with him to finish off the last piece and to galvanise...Anyway once connected if I choose to leave from the car to our back garden to get inside my home, this should make my life a tad easier, once I know my legs, my walking will be able to tolerate some large sets of concrete steps, I am sure better than tackling a downhill slope...I have trouble sensing the ground and my footing as it is, another MS symptom we have to deal with...

Hi everyone. Hi everyone.  I am getting off to a slow start this morning as didn't get up until a little after 8.  Pat beat me up this morning and had fixed her own breakfast.  The only thing on the schedule for today is to go down to our Kroger store and pick up an online order that Pat placed yesterday.  This will be our first time to use this service at Kroger.  It is going to be another hot and humid day with a halfway chance of rain this afternoon.

Jeanne, that devotional thought is so right on and certainly fits with this week.  Thanks for getting us started for a new month.

Ruth Ann, nice you can watch a live church service.

Jackie,  I get mixed up on what day it is on occasion as the days go by so quickly.  I hope you get your new handrail in today and it is a big assist to you getting to and from the car.

Carol

I started to write about a few issues and erased it - giving buckets of thanks for so many things.  Love our family.  This is a great country no matter who runs it down - we are blessed.  So many grateful things on my mind.

We are having to finish a deck staining job today because we ran out of stain.  This can is , of course, a tad different in color so we are both working on the actually decking.  The rails will be a tad darker.  We hope.  Life is "Always Something" and gives us a few jolts but I prefer to laugh.

We are on call to help a neighbor with a delivery - it didn't show last week.  Their outdoor furniture has to be inspected before they accept the delivery.  I called a cousin in Minnesota and they are on their way today for a Colorado Springs wedding at a Christian camp.  After the wedding, 4 will come and stay with us but that won't be until the end of this week.  Two are children of missionaries in Kyrgyzstan.

Larry:  Good for you on using the pickup service.  That will save a lot of walking.  Our temps are just plain hot - sprinkled with fire danger warnings all week.  Also, flooding from all the mountain snow and warnings to river rafters.

Tonight will be reheating the beef stew and fresh corn on the cob.

Jackie:  You will really like using a hand rail.  We need to put one in the front - I use the hand rail every time going to the basement - it is an open basement with door plus windows so it is my sewing room plus a room with a bed and trundle bed sofas and fireplace for company.  I feel better having a rail for company and us as well.

Janet

Oh, Larry!  I never thought you would beat Pat up!!  Is she all right?     We slept late here this morning, too, until 7:10.  Then we did go to the gym,
so have started our week right.

My brother's wife assured my sister that she had accepted Jesus years ago.  But Sis questioned her closely, and was assured all was well.  Several of her family members were there visiting at the time.  Today we got word that Lola is back in a coma and not expected to live.  Isn't God good?  He allowed her to rally and talk to her family and let us all be assured of her eternal home, now she can depart in peace.

Our dishwasher bit the dust yesterday.  We have been working on it but do not know if it will work properly.  So we may be going shopping for a new one in the next few days.
I don't want to go back to washing dishes by hand.  ???

Carol, I have done that a few times, too.  I decide why write about problems to people who can't do anything about them anyway.  I mean things other than prayer requests.

Seems it's hard to get two cans of stains exactly the same color.  Hope the deck turns out beautiful!

Jackie, hope your handrail is up and that it's a great help to you!  Nowadays, I always slide a hand along the rail when going up or down steps.  Just good insurance, and much easier than recovering from a fall!

I need to get busy!  Love you folks!

Hi everyone on this 4th of July. This reminded me to put out my American flag on this bright, sunny and soon to be very hot 96 degree day.  I got about 9 hours of rest/sleep last night and more more alert this morning.  I plan to just stay in where it is cool today.  I do need to shred a pound of cheddar cheese and then make up some more sausage muffins for Pat but neither job is difficult.  I am sitting here eating some of our first watermelon for the season.  I like it very much for breakfast as it is cold and tasty.

Yesterday I did go to Kroger's to pick up the online grocery order and it worked very well.  In fact, we liked it better than Walmart in that you actually get a checkout receipt as if you had gone through a register.  This is really the way to grocery shop. These two stores are right across the highway from each other.

Carol, I agree we have so much to be grateful for in America.  Hope you were satisfied with the final results of our deck staining.  We also had fresh corn on the cob last evening and it sure tasted good.  Only in his later years did my folks have a basement and he was pretty crippled up by then.  He always went down the stair backwards holding on to the rail so if he fell he would fall upwards and not down the stairs.  In the house we left to come here we had a second handrail put into the stair well as Stacey lived up there for several years and she never fell on the stairs.

Janet, that is a good one.  I will have to be more careful with my words.  I am glad your sister was able to speak to Lola.  These are tough days for a family knowing the end is near for a loved one.  Glad to read you are cautious with stairs and use the hand railing.  Isn't there a saying that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure or something like that?

Jeanne, thanks for the beautiful July 4th banners.

Well I am doing better today after a very bad Vertigo attack yesterday. I that one was the last for awhile these last 4 or 5 days have not been any fun at all. We are  Taking Freckles to the 4th of July celebration that the Fire Dept is putting on at the Park it is the annual Family day. Furry friends will be there to showcase all of our dogs and the Therapy Dog Program. I am taking  the poster and all the handouts to be on my display table. They will serve hotdiogs and hamburgers but I am taking protein bars and drinks for me and Keith.

Funny Story: When we were at Sunriver last month, I took Freckles for an early morning walk, a young couple were sitting on a picnic bench enjoying the morning sun. We stopped and I told them all about Freckles. I was wearing my normal extra dark sunglasses.  Later that evening I came back around from another direction and they were out there again. They said to me "Your seeing eye dog must have gotten sidetracked and took you the wrong way, good  to see you finally getting back.

Happy Independence Day to America!

I am listening to ALEXA play "50 American Patriotic Songs".  Remembering watching Don lead the parades in the Air Force.  I grew up with all Navy surroundings - with many invited to eat with us so a shock when I chose an AF guy.  Also, I taught all our children to go downstairs by saying "Go Navy!" and they knew to hang on to a rail and go backwards.  We had some steep stairs in old houses.

Janet:  You can now rest with assurance - peace be with all.

Jeanne:  Thank you for the firework pictures.  We are banned here but did hear a couple last night.  I hope the neighbors will be better this year.

A cousin will be here this weekend along with 2 grandsons  - must get busy.

Marilyn:  Sorry about your Vertigo episode.

We visited and helped our good friends a little yesterday. He is very weak.  Next week, I will drive myself and her for updating our driver's license.  We can plan - they have so many emergencies that nothing is for sure.

Judy:  I'll try again to find your post.

Happy Birthday, America!  You are still beautiful to me, and much loved!

Happy Independence day to you all, and Jeanne, I loved the graphics you put in.

Larry, good to read you had a good full night's rest and are feeling pert today!  Good day to stay indoors!  I just had to tease you a bit about beating Pat up.  I beat Darrel up every morning, poor guy, he's really abused!

Darrel is really working hard lately.  After getting the hydrant installed and the dirt back in the hole, today we (read he) is putting in a new garage door, the overhead one.
Ours had gotten so it popped and creaked when opening, he had repaired it with angle iron, more braces, etc., but it was just about ready to fall, and we sure didn't want it to fall on the car!  He has been putting it together for a few days, and today we got the old one taken down and are working on putting the new one up.  What a job!!  I'm so thankful he knows how to do mechanical and repair type stuff.  Can you imagine how much money that has saved us through the years?  A lot, is all I know.  This is another really hard job, involving lifting, carrying, getting up and down from ladders, drilling holes in steel, etc.  Whew!

I just asked if he could take a break for some iced tea, so he came in for about ten minutes, now he's back out there.  I have been helping him since breakfast, and am at the ready to help when he calls!  Another pair of hands is really good to have, even if their owner doesn't really understand the whole process!  ;)

Marilyn, sorry to hear of your Vertigo attack.  My sister was having those a few years ago, but got over them, thank God.  She said a doctor told her to just bend over as far as she could and then shake her head as vigorously as possible.  And if she couldn't bend over and do it, then lie on the bed with her head hanging off and do it.  It worked for her.  You might try it, if you want, I have no idea if it works for everyone, but it sure beats taking drugs or going to doctors.  (IMHO)

I guess that was a natural assumption, thinking you were blind.  Glad you're not!

Darrel just came in saying, "I need something!"  I ran to see what, and he was at the sink, holding his hand tightly.  It was bleeding profusely!  He was driving a screw into the metal (red iron around the garage door) and the head of the screw broke off, causing him to slip and cut two fingers on a sharp corner of metal, part of the new track for the door.  I wrapped a rag around the two fingers tightly and he waited until the bleeding stopped, then said to just put Band-aids on them, which I did, and he went right back to work.  What a guy!

Abby had to work today until 3:00.  She wasn't too happy about that!  But she's really making good money, so she does as asked.

Beth had John call a while ago to ask if I am coming to see her today.  I told them we are putting in the garage door, but I will try to come as soon as I can.  I'm glad she misses me!  I try to go several times a week, and if I miss as many as three days in a row, I get a call!   :)

I'll go back out there now.  I can see him from here at my desk.

Hello again from the south coast of Oregon.  I have been absent for over a week while my sisters and daughter were visiting.  We managed to go some place every day ... sometimes several places!  I took them to Shore Acres and they loved and photographed all the lovely roses blooming there. Then we went to Florence and had a great time, and wonderful lunch at Mo's (a very popular sea food restaurant).  We managed to get to Bandon, where my daughter really loves, and the Cranberry Sweets and Fudge Factory.  Later we went to Cranberry Sweets here in North Bend because my sister had something in mind that she wanted to purchase.  We also spent time at the Myrtle Wood Factory here in Coos Bay, and toured the History Museum and sampling the amazing cuisine at several local restaurants.

My sisters are from Tennessee and Missouri and they managed to coordinate their flights to both arrive into Eugene at the same time!  They rented a car and drove down here and said we'd use that car for all our running around to save both my car and my daughter's the mileage and gas.  Dottie drove up from California, arriving Saturday evening and my sisters came in on Sunday evening.  Now all are gone and I have done the laundry and settled back into my usual (hum drum) routine.  It was really great having them here.  One has to wonder when or if that will ever happen again.  We just have to enjoy the moment as it comes and always be sure to let each other know how much they are loved.

Since I was not able to even come and read for so many days, I have just spend the better part of an hour catching up on all your posts.  Good reading, I must say.  Thank you for your friendship and sharing even with this silent listener.
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

What a busy bunch everyone has been the past few days!

Marilyn, I can't imagine what it must be like to suffer from such vertigo.  Prayers are definitely for a healing for that.

Janet, do you ever slow down?

Jane, it sounds as though you and your sisters had the greatest visit.

...what a wonderful day trip, and time spent, you had with your sisters and daughter...just savour the moment and its memories as how true, one never knows if they will ever get repeated...

Thank you Carol, Larry, Janet for your comments, re, my new metal handrail...it hasn't been used as yet, only when it was erected and he asked me to test it... but it will next time I leave from the car...yes handrails seems to be coming as a fashionable object-item as we now age...so the more we need, the more we have, the more we use...I have metal handrails to the front, metal handrails to the back...

Marilyn...
...no fun suffering vertigo...
...just another one of my MS symptoms I have to deal with.....Quoting....

" Research by Dr. Pula published in the Journal of Neurology suggests that when MS is more active, meaning new brain lesions are forming or old ones are getting bigger, vertigo is more often reported.

What we found is that there are many parts of the brain responsible for producing dizziness, Pula says. Acute vertigo can happen in MS and may be responsible for some of the symptoms and disability that happen in MS..."

Hi everyone. We are going to have a scorcher of a day getting up to 97 or so with no rain expected.  We have planned to go to the Chop House to celebrate Pat's Birthday and our wedding anniversary when occurs on Friday and Sunday.  However, Scott called last evening saying we may need to postpone it until Saturday as he has the installer for Direct TV coming between noon and four.  If the installer gets there and gone so we can get to the restaurant before 4 pm we will go ahead with our plans for today and if not it will be Saturday in the early afternoon as he has to be at work at 5 pm.  We have nothing else on our schedule for today.

Last evening I watched two 4th of July programs.  They were both on Public TV so no commercials.  The first was presented by the First Baptist Church of Columbia, South Carolina and it was a wonderfully patriotic program featuring a lot of the military past and present honoring them and our country in song and words.  It was so touching in a couple of places I found myself shedding tears.  They had done a similar program last year that I had seen so suspect it is an annual event.  I then watched the Capitol Fourth Celebration from the grounds of the Capitol and it was also excellent and the fireworks were enjoyable as the orchestra played the 1812 Overture.

Judy, good to see your posting as it has been awhile.  I hope you and John are doing well by this time. Thanks for sharing the video.  I don't think I ever heard that hymn before.

Marilyn, glad that vertigo attack is over for you and you were able to attend the program and promote the Therapy Dog program. Did you go along with the couple thinking you needed a seeing eye dog who had had you out all day?  :)

Carol, was Don in a color guard in the Air Force.  I remember those steep stairs in the old houses.  The apartment my grandmother (my mother's mother) lived in had steep outside stairs.  We didn't have upstairs in any of the houses I grew up in.

Janet,  I had an even better night's sleep last night.  You ladies are bad about "beating your husbands up".  :) Did Darrel install a steel door.  We have had that type for quite a few years and they keep their appearance and aren't heavy to raise if the power is out.  I have a good friend who also dealt with vertigo as your sister has and it worked for him.

Jane, I could read your happiness with the events of the last few days with your sisters and daughter.  What a wonderful experience and it sounds like you made the most of it.

Jackie, glad you now have the hand rails available from either entrance to your home.  Do you have grab bars in your bath?  I did I am using ours more all the time.  I caught myself from falling yesterday morning as I went out to put up my flag for the 4th I caught my heal on the door sill.  Fortunately I was able to catch myself in time so no fall just a bit of a scare.  Not nice to see that among other things you have to deal with vertigo.  Pat has occasional bouts with it but so far I seldom have it although can get dizzy if I have been bent over and stand up but it doesn't last.

...we have hot, dry, sunny weather today, but nowhere near to your heat, think just touching under the 80...hotter than our last week or two, since our heatwave in the low mid 90s...of which I am thankful for, as I dont want to be seeing nor feeling that heat again...

Yes MS brings with it several ailments and illness....Oedema-Paraesthesia-Myalgia to name but a few...there is quite a long list...

Ha ha, " beating husbands up..." dont tempt me.... ;D

Larry even if you didn't fall, it still shakes one up, just the feeling that you may or may not have gone down....the thing is, we cant have metal hand bars everywhere...

Carol, you were posting as I was proof-reading yesterday. I did go back and read your posts--they are always interesting!

I'm just taking a short break while Darrel is reading the very confusing directions about the garage door.  What a job this is!  Yes, Larry, it is a steel door, as the other one was. This one has four windows in the top panel, the old one had two; so we will have more light in the garage now.  Right now, he is trying to figure out if we have the lifting cables attached properly.  It gets really aggravating when he has to keep taking parts off and put them back on again.  I wonder if he will think he maybe should have had someone else install it for him.  He's getting really tired.

Today is Red Hats day, but unless we are at a stopping place, I won't go and leave Darrel working by himself.  That wouldn't be good of me.

So far, it isn't hot here today, but my weather bug predicts a high of 93!  As long as it stays under 100, we can tolerate it pretty well.

Jane!  How nice to read your cheery report and find out your sisters and daughter came for a visit, and of all the fun you had!  I would love to share something like that with my sisters and daughters, but it doesn't seem likely.  So happy for you!

I got an email informing us the airline had changed the itinerary for our trip to Florida. The changes were for the better (shorter layover in Dallas) so we don't mind at all.

I did make it in to see Beth.  She was smiling, which always makes my day!  John says she is eating a little more, so I hope she gains some of the weight back.

Larry, your anniversary is close to ours!  It's July 18th, and I had hopes of going somewhere, however, that's the day my duties as Superintendent of the Art Department will keep me at the Fair until after 7:00.  Phooey.  Well, maybe we will celebrate the week following.  Happy Anniversary to you and Pat, and Happy Birthday to her!

We were both so tired that we were in bed before any of the 4th celebrations or fireworks came on.  :(  So I missed all of it.  Had I known about the ones on PBS,
I would have watched those.  Maybe next year!

Jackie, hope your legs are behaving and you will have a really good day!

Hello Jeanne, Ruth Ann, and any others who pop in today!

Gotta run!

Hello from a hot suburb of Denver.  It is weather hot and certainly realtor hot -so many people moving here without a thought.  Our homeless population is many times what it used to be - many more without any working background and some seeking the now lawful medication'

Janet:  I have been wondering about Beth - glad to see your update.  I hope they keep her room comfortable.

Larry:  Don played trumpet in both high school and he had a music scholarship at the U.  He was not in music in the Strategic Air Command (that is now gone).  He did lead the parades on Saturdays.  He used to fly to Omaha (headquarters) nearly every week.

Such a morning.  I called a friend to bring her along as we both needed to renew our driver's licenses.  She is the caregiver - but her husband had the helper today.  We did get out renewals but when I dropped her off, she accidentally slammed the car door on her good hand (she is the one who fell on ice and still needs elbow surgery and more hand mending  It bled profusely because she is on blood thinner for a blood clot.  Anyway, got her home and she iced her hand and has not needed to call us.  Her husband is failing more and more each day.  All we do nowadays is pray and laugh.  It could be worse.

Well, I am going to try to talk with Verizon - this will not be enjoyable.

Before I forget, we slept very little last night as neighbors to the south cul-de-sac had huge ILLEGAL fireworks.  The loud bombs were way over the top.  I couldn't remember the name of the street or would have called the police - as there has been two fires set by fireworks around here recently.  Caused by the arrogant crowd who don't have to obey any laws.

Sleep deprived and now to talk to the cell phone corporation.   :coffee:

Our weather has been just about perfect this week.  Sunny days, high temps about 75 to 80, cool nights in the upper 50's or near 60.

And I've been spending my days in England, but home every afternoon when the tennis match goes off the air.   ;D  Sure beats house cleaning.   ;)

Jeanne-- ;D  Most things beat cleaning house!

Well, after we had struggled and struggled to try to get the door straight and right, I finally called grandson Curtis, and asked him if, by chance he was in Ulysses.  He asked what I needed, and I told him we really needed some help, and what we were doing.
He said, "Let me see what I can do and I will call you back."  In just a few minutes, he called back and said he was on his way, would be here in 20 minutes!  Boy, he went at it like killing snakes, and it wasn't long until the job was done!  He figured out a couple of problems and fixed them, and since he drove his service car, he had all tools needed that Darrel would have had to trudge to the back garage to get, right at hand!  Gotta love those Grandsons!

I went to take my shower just after Darrel finished, and when I stepped in, the floor was slick, my foot slipped, and down I went!  My head barely missed the built-in shower seat, my knee hit the floor, and something cut the bottom of my foot , just behind my big toe.  I cried and yelled, but he didn't hear me, so I pulled myself up, using the safety bars (Didn't we just talk about that in here?) took my shower, wrapped me in a towel and came to get Darrel to help me doctor and bandage the cut, which had stopped bleeding by then.  Oh, boy.  Sure is good that we have each other to help!  My back and neck are hurting like crazy, so I'm sure I jerked myself out of alignment.  Have to go get my wheels aligned again!  ;)

So, Carol, yes, I will slow down, go take some pain pills and hope to feel better in the morning!

...if it was possible we would insert handrails and safety bars all through our homes but, the reality is...if we are to fall, we will fall, handrails-safety bars may not always prevent that happening....What a fright it must have given you, yes it was serious but it could have been a whole lot worse, you could have become unconscious, and with the hot water still running...Have to admit I do hate when I take my shower, the quicker I am to shower and get my hair washed the better, then out again....The one thing I dread is if I go down, doubt I will be able to get myself up again, and if I become unconscious, who will ever find me, and when... ???

Yes I have come across that also, a slick feeling to the shower floor, I have now worked out it is a build up of hair in the waters drain hole, the water builds up on the floor and makes my gripper mats slippery...of course I cant reach in or down to clear it so have to use a floor mop to clean the shower floor, well that works for me...

Jackie, that feeling of fear of falling and not being found is the reason I have a life alert system with fall detection. If the sensors detect a fall and I don't respond (or possibly if I do, asking for help) an ambulance is sent.  There is a cost, of course, but living alone and often going two or three days at a time without contact with anyone, it's well worth it for my peace of mind - and that of my children.

And yes, I am thoroughly enjoying England with the strawberries and cream specials.  :D And wonder of wonders, so far there has been only one half hour rain delay.  Most unusual for the Wimbledon tournament.  (Hope I haven't just jinxed things!   ;D)  Just too bad it can only be a cyber visit.

Hi everyone. It is already 80 degrees this morning and headed up to 94 with sun or mostly sunny all day.  We didn't get to the Chop House yesterday as the man installing Scott's Direct TV didn't finish until about 4pm.  So Scott and Jennifer went to the Wifesavers and got us all chicken dinners with sides for our evening meal.  We now plan on going to the Chop House on Saturday afternoon around 2 pm.  The only thing I have planned for today is to go to coffee.  I probably won't go to the Wisdom group today as I got up feeling weary and this heat really is a bit hard on me.  I may watch some of the golf later this afternoon.

Jackie, glad you are having weather more to your liking.  It is a scary thing even to start to fall even if you can stop it.

Janet, glad to read that Curtis came and helped you and Darrel with the garage door.  Sorry to hear of your fall in the shower.  Those floors can become slippery.  Sometimes after the housekeeper has cleaned the shower stall I have found the floor a bit slippery so am careful to hold on to the grab bar and use it a lot while in the shower as well so I don't lose my balance.  Nice that your layover in Dallas has been shortened on your trip to Florida.  It is fair time again and it seems like you all just finished it a couple of months ago.  Birthdays and Anniversaries can always be celebrated earlier or later than the actual day.  After all we have had a lot of experience with them.  :)

Marilyn, most people are just naturally attracted to dogs.  Jennifer has a new puppy that is going to be a very big dog as it is already over 20 pounds and it is just over 3 months old.  She is getting a lot of joy from Ripley, which is nice to see.

Carol, hard for me to understand how people who do not work can afford the drugs, whether legal or not.  Guess I am just not "with it" and never will be.  So much heartache and wasted potential and the risks of even starting are very high. Thanks for the information on Don's musical and military careers.  Did he stay in the military and retire from it?  Too bad about your friend and the car door.

Jeanne, glad to see someone is having some nice and pleasant weather.  Glad you have been enjoying your English excursions daily.  The news had a feature on the towel incident where the player tried to throw it to a young person and this old man grabbed it and fought for it.  I firmly believe that every older person living along or left alone for periods of time should have the life alert system.

:We made a day of it in Garden City!  Had so many things to find, and we tromped all over the big appliance/furniture store, then Home Depot, then Menards, then Walmart!  Wish I'd had a pedometer!  We did find the weather stripping, the lumber and the curved piece, all for the garage door and its opener; then went to lunch at Arby's, then to Walmarts for odds and ends, then back to the appliance place.

We purchased a Kitchen Aid dishwasher.  If it's as good as the Maytag, it will last us for as long as we need it.  It has stainless steel exterior, which I have never liked, as it fingerprints so badly, but I can live with it.  All my other appliances are white.

It got up to 100* here today, so we were very happy the pickup has a great air conditioner!

Larry, sorry you were feeling weary today.  I felt good, except my cut foot didn't like me walking on it all day.  It's pretty sore, but I will be fine.

Yes, I am very thankful for the protection of the Lord.  Aren't you glad He loves you,
too?  :)

Jeanne, I'm glad you have the Life Alert system, and know it's a comfort to your kids,
too.

I think the shower floor was slick because Darrel had just gotten out and it was still wet from his shower, and likely slippery from the soap he used.  I am blessed not to have been hurt badly, as it could well have been, but for my loving Father watching over me!

I'm really wiped out, and heading to bed in a few minutes.

...go ahead, " jinx things...." ;D  I could do with some rain...

....Our weather yesterday was still too hot for me ( and of course when you are stuck indoors, you dont realise how hot it is until you are out in it ) as I took a midday short walk down our slope to introduce myself to a lady similar age to me I pleasantly found when on meeting her.... A lovely lady who Richard spoke to a few days ago and found out she too has MS after he told her about me...I never knew we had two people on our site with MS but this lady and her hubby spend more time at their other location so are rarely ever in their home on our site but, they are here for just the one week, then off again...who would believe I have now lived here a whole year and yet we had never met.....It was a real pleasure that myself and the lady sat outside on her bench talking about our MS for quite some time...even though both she and the other onsite MS man dont really want to talk as if they have MS they seem to want to forget our illnesses, nor mix with anyone else who has it....I have to admit, I too want to get on with my life now, where I am not continually reminded that I have it....I do and will still attend my monthly social MS meet as I need to get out and socialise, and I do actually enjoy the talk subjects, the tea trolley and raffle.... but even that brings it on home when I look around at what is waiting ahead, and it does sink in that I am now one of them...in some ways it does not help, just makes me feel worse...if that makes any sense...I see myself as the same person I was before MS, it is just my body that is out of control...

It was a struggle going and even tougher coming back uphill, my body by then had really taken its toll with the afternoon sun... I am aware my walking is getting worse when out and about in public spaces, and I couldn't do it if I didn't have Richards shirtsleeve to cling onto, and I do mean clinging onto it... ;D as I am pulling his arm down to the ground, almost out of his socket...so if he goes down, I go with him... ;D

Hi everyone. It is going to be another hot day here in South Carolina getting into the mid-90's. I have no plans for today and am thankful as got up feeling very weary.  I did get the dishwasher unloaded and things out for Pat's breakfast and for my own.  I have a few things to take care of here in my office and that will likely be it for today.

Janet, I can no longer imagine doing all of that shopping in one day.  Kitchen Aid has always had a good reputation for quality so your new dishwasher should serve you all a long time.  Glad you had no serious repercussions from your fall and hope the toe soon heals up.

Jackie, we need some rain here as well.  We had severe storm alerts yesterday afternoon but got not one drop of rain. Glad you met a nice new neighbor lady but too bad they don't spend much time in their home near you.

Carol

Another hot day and I am about to check the fire situation in the mountains.  Most of tonight's meal is ready and refrigerated for cousin & company.  Two salads and fudge brownies are ready.  The two boys coming with my cousin & husband have been raised overseas although they have been in Minnesota several times on leave.  I hope they have a good impression of what it is to be American.

Larry:  It seems so early for this hot weather.  We still have cool enough nights to open our windows and morning are really good but then the temp shoots up to almost 100.  So much snow that the rivers are dangerous - people go in to cool off and there have been many rescues - not always rescued though.

The radio station has all the talk about motorcycles today and the ride to Sturgis, South Dakota.  We have been caught driving in that herd once and try to pay attention to the date.  It is unbelievable.  I did get gas at a station and even shouting we could not hear each other.  They do drive very carefully though and are so polite - we just stay out of their way.

So sorry about the shower slipping - we had a grab bar put in as well and there are special mats that have a hole for drainage.

Time to get busy.

Good morning everyone. Today I am making Turmeric  flax seed bread for the first ime. I hope it turns out tasting good, I do know that it will definitely be yellow. I made some matcha bread a few weeks ago and it turned out a pale Green. you couldn't even taste the Matcha. http://matchasource.com/health-benefits-of-matcha-tea/

This feels like yet another Saturday, the fourth one this week!
Come on, Sunday!  ;)

Curtis voluntarily came by this morning while he was in town and helped Darrel unload the new dishwasher, also made a few more adjustments to the garage door opener.  Love that Grandson!

Darrel has been grilling, chicken legs and pork ribs.  He also made a gallon of Cherry Nut ice cream.  Yum!  He intended to do that for the 4th, but we were otherwise occupied. We don't need to be eating ice cream, but it sure is good!  Guess we all have some kind of vice!  ;)  I will take Beth, John and Maxine each a bowlful of it.

I may just take a little nap.  I'm tired!

May God bless you all!

Arent our medical issues fun...not... :o

This morning as usual I was up and about my usual early time...at around 6.45 am, roughly an hour later I was bending over and making a fuss of our Toby, smiling and laughing at him as he was enjoying the fuss, ( a rarity ) when out of know where I was fighting to breath, have no Idea where that came from but, I was thinking lucky I am in the kitchen and could make my way to the kitchen tap to take in some water, still fighting to breath I thought maybe not water as I might make matters worse...this is something I have never experience so I looked on the internet my GP surgery to see if I could make an appointment, they are closed today and no out of hours phone number so it is now 9.45 and 15 plus minutes ago I phoned our 111 NHS phone number, she must have asked me a good 20 or so questions, and afterwards, she has now booked me a precautionary hospital appointment in an hour or so's time...When I take a deep breath in my throat and chest is feeling some strain...whatever has happened I jut cant ignore, it was not pleasant.... even if it tuns out to be part and parcel of my MS...the 111 phone number has my medical records at hand...and now the name of my GP surgery...I shall be leaving soon, I shan't have any breakfast, I shall eat when I come back...

Jackie, I'm so sorry you're having breathing problems.  I sure know about that!  Just going from my front porch to a car, carrying my portable oxygen canister, leaves me gasping for three or four minutes until I have enough breath to talk  Without the 5 lbs. weight of course, I can go a little further.  I'm praying for a quick solution for your latest symptom.

Hi everyone. This will be another hot day getting up in the area of 93 degrees with a chance of rain.  We were under another severe thunderstorm warning for two or three hours last evening but still not a drop of rain.  Our main activity today is to go to our planned dinner at the Chop House.  We will eat around 2 pm as Scott has to get back and get ready for work later this afternoon.  Later this morning I plan on taking a package to the UPS drop off place as have an order we need to return to Amazon.  I awoke at 4 am this morning and couldn't go back to sleep for got up at six.  I will try to rest for a couple of hours later this morning before we go to dinner.

Carol, I hope your dinner last night for your relatives and the two boys was enjoyed by all.  I am willing to bet that the boys liked the fudge brownies. Are the boys grandchildren of your cousin?

Marilyn, when our bread gets some green on it we know it is time to put it down the garbage disposal.  Was the green bread good and the Turmeric flax seed bread as well. I have never heard of Matcha Tea before.

Janet, that homemade Cherry Nut ice cream sounds wonderful and brings back memories of the ice cream socials we used to have when I was growing up or my dad would fix for special occasion dinners at home.  I couldn't wait to lick the paddle when it came out of the ice cream freezer. Have your tried out your new dishwasher?

Jackie, your experience this morning sounds very alarming and sure glad you are having things checked out.

Jeanne, I don't have breathing problems but do experience shortness of breath and sometimes have to take several minutes to quit breathing heavily.  Does your oxygen canister have a shoulder strap or do you have to carry it in your hands?

We are back after having to go to Morrison's Supermarket ( I sat in the car, Richard went ) to get my prescriptions as our local chemist is closed Saturdays....Well hospital Doctors diagnoses is acid reflux, hm, maybe, but I am not truly convinced, but this is what he is starting me off for...He said on Monday I must book to see my GP to follow up where this will go, also if this stopping of breathing happens again to go back to see him....He took notes and its on his computer of all my medical history including I had the camera down me 14 something years ago where I was treated for Helicobacter Pylory and found I had a Hiatus Hernia which I have lived with ever since and not had reflux coming back up, and out of the throat in years ( Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)).....but I do still suffer with terrible stomach acid or heartburn over the years, and have been aware it has particularly been bad for the last few weeks, but I dont have it today...Well what happened this morning is a first, oh I have had choking, and fighting for breath for no reason, no food to choke on but, this was different to anything I had experience before, my breathing was stopping, and very little air was getting through..just happened without warning...I am now on a course of Omeprazole to be taken twice a day...I know that does work, as that was what I was put on 14 years ago, either them or the others, Lanzoprasole, can't remember which...but I do remember it working compared to any over the counter acid medications that are now on the market, which do absolutely " diddly squat.."
I also have a very large bottle of Peptic Peppermint Liquid to be taken four times daily...
It is now 1.30pm and I havn't eaten yet, just taken my first Omeprazole on an empty stomach as the pack has told me too but I am now getting hungry...
Oh forgot to mention, my BP reading for me, was the lowest it has ever been yet my face was burning, I was sure my BP reading would have been sky high and very surprised to hear how low it was...well it was for me, but not for the Doctor...my usual readings are something more like 145 but this mornings reading was 118...

Drat, I was so hoping to keep myself away from those buildings this year...( hospitals ).... well I managed 6 months...

I got to try my new metal handrail bar...even though I counted 7 concrete steps if you include the large platform type step midway but, I do have to admit, I found it easier, and must say quicker that getting from the car down the slope to the front of my home...the slope plays havoc with my head and footing...

Jeanne Lee...
...I hadn't even done anything nor moved anywhere...I wasn't choking nor gasping... it was like a light switch turning on...one minute I was breathing, next like my breathing had stopped...or was stopping.....I still feel this is going to be connected to my MS...maybe fresh lesions or the lesions are growing larger but what do i know? I am not a Doctor...but I do look up a lot on the MS internet sites......

I never knew you was on oxygen canister, I do understand from others who are on it, re, our other forum that they can be very heavy to carry which doesn't make ones life any easier....I know you have several medical issues you are having to deal with, the last thing you want is to have to carry a heavy weight...

We do take so much for granted like our breathing and our walking, dont we?....

Well I certainly do not like the " Peptac..." dont like the taste although I could just about tolerate it...its the consistency that I would rather not experience...like swallowing gooey liquid chewing gum....

Larry, the portable oxygen has a canvas carrier that has a shoulder strap but also a hand grip that I find is easier - I can carry it much like I did my kids when they were small.

Jackie, I pray the cause and treatment of your loss of breath will be found quickly.

I'll try teal today!  ;)

I had intended to go out to the Farmers' Market for a while, but was on the phone and computer with my granddaughter-in-law, helping her with some cover letters she needs to go with job applications, and it took longer than I expected.  I hope I was of some help to her!

I had a new experience today.  Last Saturday, out at the Farmers' Market, I visited with the new Vicar of the Episcopal Church.  She is in charge of three churches in SW Kansas:  here, Garden City and Liberal.  She will live here, since this is midway between the other two towns.  Anyway, she said she was to be installed today, and invited me to come, both for that ceremony, the house blessing (They have spruced up and re-painted the parsonage, or vicarage, as she called it, and for a meal to follow. I went, and found it quite interesting.  The only times I had attended the Episcopal church were for funerals.

It's interesting to me how different our denominations are, and yet how similar!  We all love and serve the same Lord and are headed to the same heaven, so we would do well to learn to get along down here, right?

My friend, the pastor of the Church of Christ, was there also.  He is the current president of our Ministerial Alliance.  We have a good time talking about books and writing, among other things. I mentioned to him that this was a new experience for me, and he said it was for him, as well.  I love it when the local churches cooperate and share things, such as the Lenten Luncheons before Easter. The Ministerial Alliance also sponsors a Soup Supper in the Fall, to make money to help those in need, and we all help with our local Food Pantry.

TMI about my Saturday?  Sorry! ;)

I think I will go do some straightening up in my studio.  Need to be ready to start teaching in there soon!

Dishwasher isn't yet installed, maybe soon!

HAPPY ( BELATED ) HAPPY 55TH ANNIVERSARY.....PAT AND LARRY HANNA....

Hi everyone. We did get a brief shower yesterday in the late afternoon, which was most welcome.  It is to be a few degrees cooler today only getting into the low 90's.  We will be going to Sunday School, Church and then out to lunch at Ruby Tuesday's, where we have a coupon for a free burger because of Pat's birthday.

We did have a good time yesterday at the Chop House.  I enjoyed a nice salad, crab cake, baked potato and mac and cheese.  Pat had a nice steak salad and broccoli and Scott and Jennifer had nice meals, although the pork chops Scott ordered had been overcooked and were dry.  Before we went Scott helped Pat re-pot a couple of plants that had outgrown their containers into two ceramic containers we had and she is going to leave them out on the back porch for awhile.

Thank you all for the special Anniversary wishes and the birthday greetings for Pat.  Today is the actual day and she is now the same age as I am although I am about 4 1/2 months older than she is.

Jackie, the acid reflux can mimic other things.  I once spend a weekend in the hospital thinking a stent had closed up and after a cath the doctor determined it wasn't my heart at all but the acid reflux.  It sounds like you will be getting a second opinion from your regular GP.  Since I had an adjustable bed I keep the head up some and don't generally experience any problem with the reflux. I do hope you don't have further experiences with the feeling you had of stopping breathing.  Nice to see the new handrail was helpful to you.

Jeanne, you at least have a couple of options with the portable oxygen.

Janet, nice that you could help your granddaughter-in-law with the job application process.  We have never attended an Episcopal service but did attend a few Lutheran services years ago.  Our church does have Lenten services with several other churches in town, including a meal served before and then again after the service.

Jeanne Lee

Yes, Larry, I have a couple of options with the oxygen - the only option I don't have is to leave it home!   ;D   And thank God it is available.

Good afternoon!  We went to church, then the dinner, and the cake auction.
Some--well, most--of the cakes the kids made were very creative!  And none of them sold for less than $100.00!  The last one went for $300.00!  The people are very generous when it comes to helping the kids!

Beth and John were there, and she seemed to me to be more alert than lately.  I welcome and treasure any and every small improvement.  :)

Larry, glad you all had a nice time and good food at the Chop House, but too bad about Scott's overdone pork chops.  That's disappointing.

We have to go to Liberal to the VA again tomorrow to see if the bad UTI Darrel had has cleared up;
then on Thursday, have to go to the VA at Dodge to pick up his diabetic shoes.  Lots of miles!

Jackie, I hope you are breathing normally again now.  That was a scary episode!

Jeanne, Darrel's sister has to lug oxygen with her all the time, and like you, she is thin and not very strong.

I'm still waiting for word from Tiffany about her cover letters, and whether I was of any real help to her.  I hope so!  This is Mark's wife, the ones we will be going to visit in Florida in October.  She told me they already have quite a few places planned to take us.  I asked if we can go to Sanibel Island,
as I have wanted to go there for years.  She said "We absolutely can!"   :) :D 8)

I see we have another new member to welcome to CP.  I have already done so.

Has anyone heard from Pat lately?  I so hope she has gotten relief from the awful pain by now.

It is now coming up to my bedtime, 11.30pm so I shall say a good night, and prayers for our members so as when we awake we can face another day, whether it be good or bad....wishing all a peaceful and pain-free sleep, as we thank our " Maker " for keeping watch over us...

Monday, our starting of a fresh new week...our post delivery van has just turned up...wonder what will drop through our letter box...I am hoping for a large cheque, or any cheque will do really....if it does, that will be a first...

I have left Richard playing with the spiders...he is outside somewhere in our wooden shed clearing and cleaning up an almost brand new stand alone washing machine ( 6 months old at the time we moved ) that we had installed at our previous home but put in the shed a year ago when we moved into this home as the washing machine that we have is integrated into the cupboards...I am going to miss the washing machine when it gets collected by the charity tomorrow, the charity is called second chance furniture a charity to help families set up home...I am sure going to cry when its gone as its a d**n sight better than the one we have now...

I managed to book my GP appointment, I just got in in time to take the second from last appointment as my Doctor only works 3 days a week, 5 hours a day...Oh and I had to laugh when the receptionist answered the phone which took some time as her line was pretty busy...The surgery opens at 8.30am, I got through 10 minutes later to a voice who greeted me on the other end saying, " good afternoon "...I can tell this is going to be one mighty long day for her...

Hi everyone.  We are to have an overcast day with the temperatures around 90 degrees and a 50% change of rain later this afternoon.  The only thing I have planned to do today is a quick trip to Costco to fill the car with gas and to buy two or three items in the store.

Jeanne, I am glad oxygen is available to us when needed and that it can be portable.

Janet, it is good when the kids feel they were a big part of the fund raising for their activities.  Is this an annual affair at your Church.  Glad you noticed a small improvement with Beth and that she and John could be there yesterday.  I am pretty sure that Pat and I went to Sanibel Island the week we stayed at Punta Gorda in a timeshare years ago.

Marilyn, glad the bread turned out well.  We still have a bread machine but it has been years since it was used.

Jackie, has your voice changed back to normal from what you experienced? Your experience with the new washing machine sounds bit like our experience at buying a new range for the kitchen that Pat really liked just a few months before we sold our house and moved.  It stayed with the old house and the new range in this house isn't the quality of what we left.  I hope that large cheque was in your mail.  That is a rare event in our mailbox and certainly never a very large one.

Carol

I ran into a neighbor who is not well known here - she is reclusive and without a car.  So, I offered to drive her if needed.  She is very unusually secretive and no one has ever been in her house.  Not that I care to venture in there.  She does go to the same church if driven.

My cousin & husband are back in Minnesota.  Cannot imagine the pain and recovery he will have from a shoulder replacement & a few other smaller issues.

...my voice changed lasted a short time, before it got back to some form of normality...
Larry...no cheques yesterday nor any today....well we can live in hope, cant we?...oh how we know there is always hope...

...Saw the Doctor, I am to go back in a months time then we will take it from there, which just might be a change in BP med's, and to add water pills, which just make you pee more, as if I dont pee enough already... :o
Like all medical issues they try one thing first before moving onto the next one...It could be to do with the acid reflux or, as she is inching more towards...my BP med's ( Enalapril Maleate ) which could be having a bad side effect on me, re, my past coughing, choking, the closing up of my airways...Midway she mentioned the words of the tube going down my throat, as if she was going to refer me...I jumped in quick and told her...yes I had that 14 or so years ago when they found I had the Hiatus Hernia and Helicobacter Pylori which I was treated for...she then saw that written on the computer, so I dont know whether that was her next plan for me or whether that has now been dismissed and ruled out....I know which of the two I would prefer...
...oh boy, seems I maybe back on that medical roller-coaster...

Larry, I guess it is an annual event, as they did the cake auction last year,
too.  So by remembering that, I know we have been attending the Methodist Church for a bit over one year now.

Carol, I met a lady in a store here a couple months back.  I was looking for something and she helped me find it.  We introduced ourselves, and she immediately told me that she does NOT go to anyone else's house, nor does she invite anyone to hers!  I smiled and said, "But don't tell me that you aren't friendly, because I have already seen that you are!"  She said, yes she likes to talk to people, but she's not a "social" person.  I found that quite a strange conversation!  Nice of you to offer to drive her places when needed.

We have been to Liberal to the VA, then back in the car and back home.  First time that's ever happened!  We usually do a few errands, at least.  Darrel isn't feeling very well, and it's so hot out,
probably just as well to get back home.  We did go to the gym this morning before we left.

I'm sleepy, but want to get the last load of laundry taken care of when the dryer stops.  And I'm reading a good Christian novel on my Kindle, hard to put it down.

Larry, I've seen photos of Sanibel Island in the early morning, with piles of beautiful shells lying there for the taking!  We have been warned to get there very early, or there won't be much left!  I have a pretty extensive shell collection, from our Scuba diving, and really, shells are pretty heavy, when you think about the fact we are flying down to Florida and back!  But I couldd bring a few, plus as many pictures as I want!  ;)

But I could bring a few, plus as many pictures as I want!  ;)

Hi everyone. We will have another day like yesterday, i.e. overcast with possibility of rain this afternoon.  We will get to around 90 degrees again today.

Yesterday we did get some nice rain.  I did get over to Costco yesterday morning and it was a great morning to go as it was relatively cool and there were few people there, which seems to be an oddity.  I did get one of their rotisserie chickens, which we will have for our dinner tonight. I have no definite plans for today and expect to stay home all day.

Carol, your neighbor sounds like a very lonely person.  Perhaps as you get to know her she will become less secretive.

Jackie, it is always a surprise to me when a check arrives in the mail.  I can now make my deposits with the mobile app on my phone for my credit unions and I really like it as it saves trips to their facilities.  Maybe tomorrow will be the day for you.  Sure hope you are not back on a medical roller-coaster.  It seems that blood pressure medicine can cause some folks a lot of problems.  Fortunately the doctors apparently have several alternatives.  With my low blood pressure I likely will never need to take blood pressure medicine.

Janet, if the Methodist church we now belong to is any example, the youth are well supported and are an active part of our Church community.  It would be interesting to know some of the background of the ladies you and Carol encountered.  Will you be doing any scuba diving while you are in Florida?

All is well in my little corner of the world...at last we are having a day of rain...Larry, it must be your yesterdays rain we are now having...

I have my monthly MS social meet up in two and a half hours time, my leaflet tells me the speaker for tonight's talk is from the MS national centre who will be giving a talk about the national and local changes taking place in the MS Society, it maybe interesting or it maybe boring...

Larry Hanna...
...not sure if another Endoscopy might be on the cards at some point in the near future...I thought yesterday she was ready to book me in...the way she asked me if I have had one...

Hoo Boy!!  It is HOT here today--near 100, on the way to 103!  With the hot,
dry wind blowing you wonder how any vegetation survives. :snowball:  Maybe this will make me "think cool!"  ;)

We went to the gym, came home and did a few chores.  The menu at the Senior Center was Ham and beans and cornbread, which sounded good, so we went.  Very disappointing, as the beans were so salty most of us could not finish them, me included.  Ack!  Why did they do that?  Lots of us hardly eat any salt anymore.  Oh, well, I'm sure I ate more than enough,, even with half a serving.

Larry, glad you had an easy and uncrowded trip to Costco.

I intended to go see Beth after lunch, but didn't have time as the housekeeper was due here at 1:00.
I'm very thankful for Maribel's help!

Jackie, enjoy your MS meeting!

This is Prime week on Amazon.  But I don't think we need anything!

Hello everyone. I've had a busy few hours so far today. I went to the gym  early  then prepared breakfast for Keith and I had a protein bar with my coffee. Off to the Mall to have my nails done, home to prepare lunch, put bread ingredients in  the machine, took Freckles for a walk, made a cake which is now in the convection oven and the bread is about ready to come out of the main oven. Next an other Freckles walk and then I really have to get busy on some PSP work for my stat group Busy busy.

Dr's office called yesterday for Keith to go give another blood draw before his appointment on Friday. Next week we leave for Vanouver Wa. on Tuesday. His Eye appt is on b|Wednesday in Portland. back to vanouver for a couple of days then home again on Friday.

Hi everyone. We start our day here sunny and clear skies.  It will be in the 90's this afternoon.  We had a very brief rain shower late yesterday afternoon.  I expect to stay home again today.  I will get things ready for a salad for our dinner with Scott and Jennifer.  They are going to fix the dinner for us.  Pat will go this morning to her crafts group at Church.

Yesterday afternoon after the rain stopped I checked the mailbox and as I left the house I saw this beautiful rainbow in the sky so took a picture of it.  Here is a link if you are interested.  This is looking up our street from my front porch:  https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipMtoDmq_kPQjtQT5v6EjFYHGjnPMev1lrcglUuY

Jackie, glad I could send you the rain.  Hope your MS social meeting was enjoyable and the speaker interesting and not boring. I have never had to have an Endoscopy.

Janet, too bad the Senior Center doesn't let people salt to their tastes.  I don't salt things and am pretty sensitive to too much salt.  I am happy for you that you now have a housekeeper to help you with the heavy work of cleaning.  I feel the same way about the Prime week on Amazon.

Marilyn, you sure did have a busy day yesterday. What type of bread did you fix?

Jeanne, I agree with your comment ot Marilyn.  I am getting where it is very tiring just to get things ready in the kitchen in the mornings and Pat is now taking care of her own breakfast.

...quoting: " I have never had to have an Endoscopy..."
...then you have that to look forwards to...NOT...avoid those scopy's if you can... :o

Last nights MS social I wouldn't say was boring but there was not much that I seem to have remembered, just that it wasn't about the MS societies new legislation's...I did enjoy myself, I made communication with at least three individual people, one lady I approached once I heard her mention she comes from the same Town I grew up in, Watford...even the evenings talker came from St Albans, next town about 8 miles away...St Albans is the Roman Town that has the famous St Albans Abbey...also where I travelled to, to do my Tai-Chi-Chuan, which was some of the best days of my life...

Larry I cant see your rainbow, a box is asking me to sign in...

Rain is predicted somewhere around here today and it won't hit the 90's at our house.  Passing on this weather for Janet!.  Did you know there is still a lot of snow melting in our rivers?

Janet:  How far is your drive to Liberal?  We spend about an hour getting across town now and it should be 40 minutes at most.

There were 8 gals over last night for the one quilting group.  I baked an old recipe for a coffee cake and served either sherbet or praline ice cream or both for several.  Ice tea for everyone.  Don walked up the street to play cribbage - he knows when to get out of the house  :yakyakyak:  - Don has a salt deficiency and it is hard to believe since he has always heavily salted everything before even tasting.  I told him that I should buy a salt block that we use for cattle and my friends think that is very funny.   ^-^

Some people just live solitary lives and this neighbor goes to church if you take her - she will go if you offer but has plenty of money and chooses to live that way.  No one has ever been in her house.

Jackie:  We love all the British mystery shows and even the bake-off.  Loved the villages and especially walking through the back of homes to check their gardens.

Leaving you with this note I remember a good neighbor and friend who hailed from Texas - she used to say "I was born tired".

Ruth Ann Bice

Hi, friends,

It has been great to visit with y'all as I'm enjoying quiet time here in my apartment.

I, too, have had an endoscopy. It was done to stretch my esophagus, which had scar tissue from the hiatal hernia and GERD.  It's really a matter of thanksgiving for me that our doctors continue to advance in their knowledge and treatment skills.

I decided to stay inside today with the heat index moving over the 100 degree mark.

So, I suppose going out tomorrow should be done during the morning hours.

Larry, I hope to begin getting my orders from Walmart soon.

Well, y'all have a good evening.

Ruth Ann

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone. We had a very rainy evening last night with a lot of lightning and thunder.  Today we are to be sunny all day with little to any chance of rain.  We had an enjoyable evening with Scott and Jennifer and Scott fixed his Taco Pie and I had put together the salad earlier in the day. Today I will pick up my friend and we will go to coffee.  After I take him home I plan on stopping at Walmart to pick up medicine for Pat.  I do not plan on attending the Wisdom group as just don't have the energy.  I expect the rest of the day to be quiet.

Jackie, I have had other scoping done just not down my throat.  Sorry you couldn't see the rainbow.  I should know better than link from my Google Photo Account.  I just put it up on my Facebook account so let's try this link:  https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10156388695259377&set=a.10150171369334377.354327.776879376&type=3  It sounds like you enjoyed your MS social and it is always pleasant to meet other people.

Carol, do you actually quite or it is mainly discussions about quilting?  Either way I am sure it was an enjoyable evening.  Did Don's doctor advise him to eat more salt?  After I was hospitalized for low sodium the cardiologist told me to eat more salt and said he seldom would suggest that to his patients. I just never have been one to pick up a salt shaker except for corn on the cob.  Pat and I have also watched many British shows on Netflix and really enjoy them.

Happy Birthday John.  Hope you are doing well and pretty much recovered from your surgery.

Ruth Ann, it sounds wise to stay in out of the oppressive heat.  I try hard to get any errands away from the house done in the morning so I can stay in during the hottest part of the day.  I hope you soon have the online ordering available for grocery from Walmart.  I expect they will have that in every market before long.  I hope to not have to very often do major grocery shopping in the aisles.  So far we don't have any stores offering online ordering with home delivery but think it will be coming.  Maybe the groceries will be delivered by drones (who knows).

JohnB

Thank you for the birthdays wishes Larry and Jacky. Yes Larry I am pretty much mobile again. See my surgeon next week for my 12 checkup and hope at that time to get my brace off. Then will need to go as I can and the back will allow. I'm told it's a year for full recovery. So we just keep keepin on. Will be good to be able to get back to normal activities again. Going a bit stir crazy some days. Also having others do for me, what I should be doing myself doesn't settle well with this guy. But we must be contend in all things. Count our blessings one by one. It's a blessing to be out of pain, for sure.
Phil. 1: 21. For to me to live is Christ and to die is gain.

Carol

How nice to see John B and Ruth Ann this cooler morning - at least it is cooler in Colorado for a day or two.

Larry:  Do we "actually quilt"?  Well, two of the gals (a mom and daughter)  brought their lightweight machines and sat at the dining table.  The house is very open so they could chat with all of us (9 in total).  Sewing didn't stop them from having their treats.  :)  I took everyone downstairs and let them see my work room - it is a walk-out basement with large windows where I set my machine.  Yes, to doctor's orders for Don to take more salt.  Especially in summertime when we lose salt in perspiration - the medics say so right away.

Don is back from the monthly men's breakfast.  He said someone paid for everyone's meal - that is what happened a few years ago too.  This had to be $100 at least!  There are still two WWII vets in there - isn't that marvelous?

Happy Birthday! JOHN B!!!!!!
Let other's help - you have been so helpful to other people and they want to return the favor.  There is a time to accept the loving gifts.

Marilyn

Ruth Ann so nice to see you. I have been thinking about e I saw that you country singer son ( Sawyer Brown I believe is the name he goes by) will be at the Lane county fair in Eugene .

Larry  this time I just made regular half white and half whole wheat bread and added an extra heaping tablespoon of  Raw Honey. That is the only kind of honey I use in my breads, I also only use olive oil and organic flours. This morning I stopped off at the groomers to buy two dozen organic free range eggs. That means the chickens  were free range only in the coops at night. They are so good and so fresh the yolks are almost orange.  I think one og the groomers also has chickens it could be the owner of the grooming salon.

Happy Birthday JohnB

We have been running around again today.  Had to go to Dodge City for Darrel to see the VA people about getting more shoes, while there I got some new shirts/blouses, as some of mine are looking sort of shabby.  We have those two trips coming up!  Then we drove across to Garden City, as I had ordered some items online from Staples and they were delivered to the store for pickup.

Then to Dillon's for a few items and back home.  We were so happy for the reprieve from the triple digit temps!  It was only in the 90s today.  :)

I'm afraid I've been rather grumpy all day, even though I made a real effort not to be.  I just was so tired and didn't feel up to par.  But tomorrow is another day!

Happy birthday, John!  I agree with Carol in that you should allow people to give you a hand when you need it.  That will bless them, as they bless you!

Marilyn, your breads sound so good, but if I eat barely any bread (or sugar) I gain weight.  And I do love good bread.

Larry, I was unable to access the page from your link.  :(  And I would love to see your rainbow photo.

My eyes are burning, so guess they are calling for a rest.  See you lovely folks tomorrow.

Larry Hanna...
...I did see your rainbow but on our other site and I have commented, looks a lovely neighbourhood, and I do like to see a lot of greenery, your road-street certainly has plenty of that...

John B...
...I fully understand the wanting to be independent again but, with Gods help maybe in the future HE will allow you to be in a position to repay the help to the people who God sent to you to help you at your time of need...

Janet...
...we are allowed to have ourselves a grumpy day or two, we have now earnt the right... ;D as you rightly say...tomorrow is another day...

Well once again my inner right thigh has come alive, it is always there in the background but laying dormant but, now once again the top of leg is giving me spasms-electric shocks coming from it when I am not expecting one, this stops me in my tracks and I cant move until its over, as I could be getting up from the sofa or moving around with a freshly made hot cup of tea in my hand when one happens, these leg coming alive occurrences are what could take me down if it catches me unexpected taking a step, of which they do..although I haven't gone down yet...As there is no pattern to what goes on with my right leg it, is always there and builds up from the minute I get up in the morning but calms by the time I go to bed....yes it is part and parcel of my MS...nerve - brain-stem - lesions damage...
I always say, thank God my left leg is a good leg, as if it was the same as my right leg I would really be in trouble.... Infact I would now be in a wheelchair or some other mobility aid to get myself around...I rely so much on my left leg...even that was once diagnosed with Osteoarthritis behind the knee, if so it doesn't seem to be giving any trouble now, I often wonder if that was a misdiagnoses at the time...well at least it is not heavy to lift into the car like my right leg is, I have to literally lift it up...
Oh what joys NOT,  ::) of our medical issues...

Another strange thing happened to me, I took notes and wrote it down afterwards, and have phoned the GP surgery hoping for an over the telephone appointment rather than an in surgery app, only to find my Dr is not in today so, I have booked it for Monday...Well about an hour after taking my Omeprazole ( doubt any connection ) I had a paining sensation from my right ear, followed by, it had travelled to my throat, an uncomfortable feeling but never affected my windpipe, It never caused me to choke nor cough, then this strange feeling while the ear pain and throat was still obvious moved down into my chest where my chest became tighter and this did affect my breathing, then my focus seemed to come back to my throat again..all in all, these three together sensations lasted 15 minutes before all came back to some form of normality...Now if anyone recognises these three symptoms together, please tell me as I simply have no clue as to what had happened to me...I feel absolutely fine now...

Just been watching for the second day on the trot ( tv recording, but I have seen it in the past, ) The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel....I had to take a break and post in here as I fondly smiled over this and felt I had to post this as this sums it all up perfectly, in just the one sentence....

In India we have a saying, " everything will be alright in the end, so if it is not alright, it is not yet the end...."

Hi everyone. It looks like we are headed to a 95 degree sunny day.  I got up early this morning and headed to the lab to get blood drawn in preparation for a routine visit to the GP a week from today.  I knew I needed to do it fasting so wanted to go early and was back home by 8:30.  The housekeeper should be here this morning.  We plan on going out to eat today for our main meal as we often do the day the house is cleaned.  We haven't been out to eat all week.

I had planned to meet a group of men friends, from where I had lived, in Greensboro, Georgia today.  I realized yesterday that I just am not feeling like making a 2 1/2 hour round trip as have been very weary all week.  So yesterday I called and cancelled out for now.  So other than eating out later today I plan on a quiet and restful day.

John, happy to see that you are doing better and hopefully will soon be able to shed the back brace.  There comes times in our lives where we have to depend on others until we are able to do for ourselves and I am willing to bet you are there for friends who have been in a similar situation.  God provides what we need when we need it.  As you said we need to count our blessings.

Carol, it sounds like you have a nice sewing studio in your walkout basement.  Pat usually spends a little time each day with her Singer Featherweight but has also starting going back upstairs to her sewing room.  Fortunately we have the stair lift which makes it easy for her to get up the stairs.  Now nice for someone to pay for the men's breakfasts.

Marilyn, your bread sounds delicious.  I so enjoy freshly baked bread and the smell of it baking is delightful.

Janet, hope you were able to get good rest last night and are less "grumpy".  I sometimes find I am also grumpy sometimes particularly when I am not feeling up to par. No wonder you were tired with all that travel and going into the shopping in the various stores.

Jackie, thanks for your comments on the picture.  We love living here and our street has become very quiet as all of the construction on our street is finished.  My next door neighbor's son is off to Arizona to see his Dad.  He and his girl friend were always coming and going but graduated from high school this year and will be going across the State to school so our end of the street should remain pretty quiet from here on.  There are a lot of trees around so can always see greenery.  Unexpected MS pain that you experience certainly is unpleasant.  Pat has to lift her right leg into the car also.  I am thankful that she can do that.  Too bad you couldn't get in to see the doctor today but sure glad the episode is over and hope it doesn't come back.

Well, I feel like myself again today, thank the Lord!  And I guess I wasn't too grumpy yesterday, as Darrel didn't mention it at all!  ;)  I knew I was overtired, and I was/am so concerned about the commissioners' decision to sell our Care Home to a for-profit company.  They have already told us they plan to raise the prices when they take over.  The only income Beth has is her SS Disability, and they already take all of that except $62 per month, so how can she pay any more?  One man here in town is circulating a petition to bring it to a vote, but not having good response, and the deadline is Sunday!  So I am very concerned.  We don't want to have to move Beth to another town and have to drive to see her.  :'(  I know God is in control, and that worrying does absolutely no good, so I'm trying to give the burden over to Him and not obsess about it.  The Assisted Living facility will be sold too.  The two facilities cost the taxpayers of Grant County well over 12 1/2 Million Dollars, and they are selling both for only $3.5 Million!!  How is that a good deal?  The Care Home is less than ten years old!  Okay, sorry.  Janet is stepping off her soapbox now.  :-\

We are having another much cooler day today!  After Wednesday's 103*, we appreciate it!  It will be a high of 84*.  We can handle that!  :)

Larry, that is a beautiful rainbow photo, and your street looks very pleasant.  I'm still hoping to make it to your area for a short visit!

I saw the kids (Beth and John) for a few minutes this morning, and she was all smiles, which always makes this mom happy!  :)  They are planning to go out to watch the Fair Parade as it passes by the Care Home in the morning, and they look forward to the Barbecue dinner on Thursday evening.  Then I'm sure they will browse through the exhibits some unless she is too tired.

Jackie, I don't really know what Beth's MS symptoms are, as far as pain; rotten disease!  Glad you can still walk, that is something to be very thankful for.  And the use of your hands, and your speech.

I need to call that darned insurance company that's dragging its feet about our trip insurance refund.
I think four and a half months should be long enough to wait!   :ticked:

I apologize!  I just realized I STILL sound grumpy!  Sorry!  I'm not, really.  (I don't think.)   :-X

...happy that you and Beth managed to meet up for another very welcome reunion...yes MS is a nasty debilitating illness-disease...which no two people suffer alike...I am sure the things I suffer with are not the same things your Beth suffers with and vice versa...it can rob us of all manner of things that we once took for granted...bit by bit it takes from us..

Janet glad today is not your yesterday, re, your feeling of grumpiness...

I took Keith to the Dr. this morning, it went well for a bit then she decided to test his memory. He scored Dementia, I already suspected that but the score didn't shock me. I think it shocked Keith though when he couldn't  remember  what he was supposed to remember.  He will be taking Aricept as soon as we go pick it up this evening. I called his oldest son Dr. Craig Riley and told him. we  knew it was coming ans  the boys al,so suspected this to come. So no surprises. We will be at Craig's house next week and he can see for himself.

Tomorrow is the annual July Jubilee For the North Bend Birthday celebration. The Furry friends will be participating in the parade  in the afternoon. So glad the weather her is milcd and not  too hot for the dogs to walk on the  blacktop.

Hi everyone. We have a sunny and clear sky again this morning but see a good chance for some rain later this afternoon and a high of around 95.

I hope to attend a meeting at 10:30 this morning, depending on my energy level at the time, and then spend the rest of the day inside where it is cool and later this afternoon plan on watching the golf match from the comfort of my easychair.   We did go to Pizza Hut for our main meal yesterday.  We got there around 3 pm and lingered until 4:30 when our son starts work there so we could say hello to him and get & give hugs.  Our granddaughter had brought him to work so she came inside and we also got to talk with her and give and get more hugs. It made our day.

Janet, glad to see you were feeling like yourself by yesterday.  It sounds like Darrel is a wise man. :)  Have to talked to the people at the Care Home or Social Security to see whether it would be necessary to move Beth when the facility is sold.  I may be wrong but if I remember correctly the Government will supplement the payment to the nursing home.  My folks were private pay but there were many in the nursing home who only had disability or Medicaid and there was no different in their care.  It might be worth inquiring about. I sure hope you and Darrel will be able to come and see us.  I hope Beth and John can enjoy the parade and nice it passes by the Care Home so the residents have to opportunity to see it.

Jackie, hope today finds you up and about. We can never have too many prayers. God knows our needs but wants us to be in contact with him through our prayers.

Marilyn, so sorry to hear of the dementia that Keith is beginning to experience.  Is his son a medical doctor?  I think Aricept is suppose to slow the progression of the dementia. I was in the room with my mother when she was given the tests and the doctor described the four small strokes she had suffered.  Hope you enjoy the July Jubilee today and that you won't have to carry your dog in the parade.

Hi everyone!

Here I sit in the huge mansion on Delhi St. Guelph wondering when I'll once again see the walls of my humble abode.  ;)

It was 15 months ago today that this mysterious malady hit me like a bomb.  Many suggested titles have been put on the drawing board the latest (and they feel like it is close to the mark) is Connective Tissue Disorder.  Look that up in Google!

I'm very limited in my data having only my phone here so this will be all for now.

God bless you all and thank you very much for your continued prayers.

Pat... :)

We'll be glad, of course, for any little greeting you can post.  And praying for wisdom and resources to solve this puzzle.

Pat, by "huge mansion on Delhi St. Guelph" are you referring to a hospital?  I'm so sorry, my sweet friend, that this horrible affliction has lasted so long!  I'm sure it feels like almost a lifetime to you.  I just wish there was something I could do to make it better.  So I will continue doing what I know is the best thing--praying for you.

You are so very loved and so much missed here on CP.  I, for one, am so thankful you started it, as we have "met" so many wonderful folks through the years.

Marilyn, so sorry to hear that Keith may have dementia.  That is a cruel condition, but I pray his will be mild and you can still enjoy life together for years to come.  One of Darrel's classmates lost her husband, then met a wonderful man and married him, only to find out in only a few months he had dementia, and that was so sad.

I have attended the fair parade, came home for a couple hours, then attended the Missoula Children's Theater production of Peter and Wendy.  It's amazing what two young college kids can do.  They started five days ago with tryouts, and today produced a really cute play!  The kids all learned their lines, the dances and choreography all in that short time!  Bravo!!  :)

I surprised Darrel with tamales from the farmers market, and he has eaten too many already.  Sigh.  I'm glad he is enjoying them but I worry about his health!

Now I'm going to look up Connective Tissue Disorder.

Hi everyone. It looks like we will be having a nice and cooler day today, only in the 80's.  We had a lot of rain yesterday afternoon and evening with several hours of lightning and thunder.  I certainly don't have to water the grass tomorrow.  I have nothing else to write about as to my activities of yesterday as ended up again at home all day as just didn't feel up to attending the meeting I had hoped to attend.  I will be going to Sunday School and Church this morning as I signed up several weeks ago to bring the Devotional at Sunday School this morning.  We will likely stop somewhere after Church to have lunch and then just rest the rest of the day.

Pat, I saw your picture on Facebook a couple of days ago and knew you were in the hospital. I will look up your diagnosed condition so I can better understand it.  I just wanted to let you know that I am using for my Devotional this morning the wonderful writing of Jack fror his Walking the Old Paths series on "The Old Guidebook".  These writings continue to bless me as I have read them again and again over the years as you have shared them.

Janet, as usual you had a very busy day yesterday.  It sounds like the kids did a nice job with the play.  Is the fair over or is it yet to be held?

I am passing on other individual comments this morning as most relate to hearing from Pat and I have nothing else to add.

My leg spasms and electric shocks are still very much a part of me at the moment...they come out of nowhere and take me by surprise...I too decided not to make church this morning...

Jackie, in case you have missed Larry with an answer to your questions, Jack was Jack Scott, Pat's late husband.

Jack was a wonderful spiritual leader who wrote, among other things, a series of devotionals "Walking In the Old Paths".  These were at one time posted on this site but apparently one of the crashes wiped them out.

I'll see if I have any saved that I can provide.

Jackie, as you've already found, HERE  I have a few of Jack's messages saved and when Pat is feeling stronger I'm sure more will be available.

I'm glad you asked your questions as it is a blessing to me, also, to read these again.

We had another nice rain last night, bringing the total for the week to 3/4 inch here at our house.  But others in the area got over two inches, so it was spotty.  But still, it was a good general rain, much needed and much appreciated.

Larry, the Fair Parade was just the kickoff for the fair.  It will last all this week, with my longest working days to be on Tuesday and Wednesday.

We went to church, then ate out, and as soon as I finish this, I will continue getting my things ready that I want to enter in the fair.  I have my paintings ready, but am gathering "collections" to enter.  Most need only three items to be entered as a collection.  Might as well get something out of some of this stuff that's sticking around here!  ;)  Since I have to be out at the fairgrounds anyway, I just as well see if I can win some ribbons and money!  :)

I see that Larry answered my question about Pat, that the place she mentioned IS a hospital.  :'(
I so hope they can get her some relief from that constant pain.

John and Beth were at church this morning.  I heard her groaning quietly, so I know she was in pain.

But not to worry, Jackie, the post you were concerned with has now been deleted.   ;)

Hi everyone. We are in for another cloudy and probably rainy afternoon and evening.  We should only get to the mid-80's today, which is a very pleasant change from the high 90's we have been having.  I have no plans to leave the house today so it should be a quiet day.

Jackie, I am glad that Jeanne had some of Jack's "Walking the Old Path" writing as the only one I have a copy of is the one I spoke of yesterday and Pat had posted it back a few weeks ago.  We had a wealth of wonderful writing by Jack Scott and also by a fellow named Al, who lived in Oregon, and was a retired minister.  He wrote a series of devotional thoughts on the Psalms. Over the years others have also shared devotional thoughts with us. Sure hope you experience a day with less leg spasms and electric shocks.

Jeanne, I so appreciate your assistance in meeting Jackie's request and that you had several of the writing still available and was able to provide a link to them.

Judy, I also want to wish you a belated Happy Birthday.  I hope John took you out for a nice meal and that you were with family for the day.

Janet, is the fair this week a county fair or does it encompass a bigger area?  People at Sunday School yesterday were commenting on the amounts of rain they had received on Friday and Saturday and most had around two inches and some up to four inches.  Sure glad you had rain out your way.  The rains we have been having have been accompanied by severe storm warning for small areas, including some in our large county.  We have been fortunate and have had no hail but have had some high winds.  On Friday Pat, with the help of our housekeeper, had put together a nice looking display of artificial flowers in a container on our front porch so it didn't look so barren and something that I didn't have to water.  They put in rocks to weigh it down but guess the flowers were too top heavy and some heavy wind blew them off the little table and spilled out many of the rocks.  I came up with the idea of drilling a small hole in the bottom of the container and anchoring it to the table, which is iron and in a lattice pattern.  That will keep it from being blown off.  We will try again with the flowers.  So sorry to Beth was experiencing such pain to cause her to groan while at church.

Janet

Yes, Larry, this is our county fair.  Such a lot of work goes into making it a success!  I hope people will come out, enter things, enjoy the events and make it worth all the hard work behind the scenes.

I really must run!  Was in the car and ready to go when my phone rang.  It was the VA in Wichita, wanting to talk to Darrel and he just now gave my phone back!  See you later!

Good Day!  Thank you Jeanne, for setting up the page of Jack's writings.  I put it all under a Bookmark.

Pat:  I have heard the term of your ailment and now will look for the definition.  Hug and a prayer for you and all your close family and friends.  May your pain be eased and correctly diagnosed.  I am so glad you were able to stop by for a few inspiring hours - greetings to your hubby.

Don just made an appointment for the car to have a check-up and he had to get it scheduled today with the coupon.  We are changing in this house and trying to decide if we can still drive all the way to Minnesota - Duluth, in fact.  Don's cousin is nearly 100 years young and she writes and phones us - still active.  We have friends and relatives all over the state.  The issue with driving is that it is exhausting to visit and drive - must watch for health issues.  He wanted to go first to mid-northern Montana and visit son's place but that would mean a lot more than 3,000 miles.  Too daunting to consider anymore.

:hbirthday:  Judy B:  Best wishes for a healthy and happy year!

...would that be Al Moak?...I remember that name on our other forum but never had the pleasure of communicating with him...think I came along a year later on the forum, I think by then he had stopped posting...I know he is no longer with us but I did here he was a character...Wasn't he Norm Tock's friend? or am I getting confused...

No my leg spasms, electric shocks have come back to life today...I am walking but my walking can not be trusted...

I spoke to my GP this morning, a home telephone call....she phoned a couple of hours earlier than the times I was given...Good I wrote the experience down...but she doesn't recognise it but has ruled out my heart...she asked how long did this episode last, I told her 15 minutes...it started with a pain from my right ear, moved to my throat, followed by a tightness in my chest which interfered with my breathing...she is adding this to my medical record...

The Lord is certainly taking good care of me.

I've had trash and garbage pickup by the same small local business for about 10 years now.  Saturday I found a note in my door that a new company would be doing the job, with a phone number to call giving my mailing address and asking any questions.

My main concern of course was price and found out that the very reasonable charge would not change.  The girl asked whether I had a "can" or need one.  I explained that I can't handle using one, that it's the limit of my ability to get the individual bags onto the front porch for some kind soul to move to the roadside.

She commented, "OK, I'll note that you need someone to get your garbage"  I thought, "OH, yea!  that's going to happen."

To my surprise, a young man knocked at my door this afternoon, explaining that he was from the trash company and that in the future he'd be coming on Friday, but today he would take anything I had ready.  He said in the future he would take anything on my front porch and if nothing was there he'd knock on the door and take whatever I had in the house.

And this extra concern at no extra cost!

Like I said, the Lord sure does look out for me!

We had quite an afternoon yesterday after church. Three of the cats   were going to be taken to S/nipped Clinic where I used to work for thier yearly exazms, nail clippings and immunizations. Well we two of them in the crates, the thirs was rather difficult due to his size, it took about 9 tries to finally get him ikn. He gained a pound fro n lst year and now weighs 18.1 lbs. It was  getting his fat tummy through the little door that made it so difficult to get him in the crate. After her got his exam and inoculations he just walked right back into his crate.

We are getting ready for olur trikp to Washington State. Will be stay in Vancouver at Keith\s olcdest son's house for a few days. The youngest son will be driving us to Keith eye appt in Portland just across the river on Wednesday.

Looking forward to seeing all the grands and the new grand daughter as well.

Hi, friends,

It's so good to hear from y'all again today.

Before I forget it, Marilyn, that country music group has a name similar to my son's.  He is Bobby D Sawyer, and he's located in Houston, TX.

I am having a difficult time staying awake - my new blood pressure medicine likely is causing the sleepiness.

At any rate, it has been so good to hear from everyone.

Love to you all,
Ruth Ann

Hi everyone. It looks like we will be having another partly or mostly cloudy day with it only getting up to the high 80's. There is only a 20% chance of rain today.  Late yesterday afternoon I realized I was feeling much better and got up feeling the same way today. Sure hope this will last for a few days.  Pat is planning on going to Joann's with Jennifer today to get her some craft supplies as she is interested in learning to knit or croquet.  Had used to have a lot of croquet things but gave them all away knowing she would not be doing any more of it.  So it will be girl's morning out and expect they will stop somewhere for lunch.  Unfortunately a pain has returned to Pat's back that she has not had since we moved here and it is making her very uncomfortable.  Nothing else on the schedule for today although I may get into the car and go to the hardware store for a couple of things and perhaps make a quick trip to Aldi's.

I watched this short video this morning and it has a wonderful message for us:
https://biggeekdad.com/2015/07/interview-with-god/

Janet, I remember when I was growing up that we always had a county fair in the county where we lived.  They would bring in carnival rides and have the contests with crafts and animals.  We lived not far from the county fairgrounds  in Georgia and it was a big affair.  I think there is also a county fair here in Aiken county where we now live.  I hope you have a lot of entries in your fair including a lot of art and crafts work as know you put in a lot of effort in that area.

Carol, are you considering flying to Duluth or someplace in Minnesota and renting a car to travel in the State?  A long trip in the car is very daunting and certainly exhausting.

Jackie, yes I was referring to Al Moak but had forgotten his last name.  Thanks for jogging my memory.  The friend of Norm Tock's was Papa John, who lived in Nashville.  I know they became great friends after meeting on the Internet and were always teasing each other, particularly about who was going to pick up the bill when they were together and ate out.  With your leg spasms I do hope you are using your walker faithfully to protect yourself from falls.

Jeanne, good news on the cost of your trash removal with a new company.  It seems that prices usually go up with new ownership.  What a pleasant experience with the young man who will take care of your trash so you don't have to try to get it to the street.  There are many good people in this world.  Is your mail brought to your door by the mailman?

Marilyn, it sounds like your cat was ready to go home after his treatment at the vets but didn't want to go in the first place.  Hope you have a great trip to Vancouver and enjoy the time with his sons.  I see you have a bonus on the trip with seeing the grands and a new grand daughter.

Ruth Ann, glad you let us hear from you and hope the new blood pressure medicine is doing the job.

...yes that was the member I was getting confused with Papa John..another member a tad before my time...a pair ( Norm ) of which I know I would have enjoyed their banter...

...Well my right leg activity seem to be here to stay...I am having a real hard time walking...it does a whole mixture of things...be glad when it gets back to some form of normality, whatever that is, as the feeling is always there, just lays dormant then comes alive...

I thought I had lost Toby, not even me calling bickits ( biscuits ) or even dinner did he come, after I had been hunting and calling out his name from one end of my home to the other whilst checking on every nook and cranny, and getting more frantic by the second....Yes I found him eventually just sitting further along in the garden and just looking at me, and still not budging....totally ignoring my calls until I took the decking step to the top gripping on for dear life, only then could I see him, and of course I couldn't venture any further onto the garden to check if he was at the far end near to the gate on the drive-down lane...to say he is not in my good books is an understatement...Richard is at his COPD exercises class, a good one hour two way journey....his six week course has now finished so this is optional so he has gone to give it a try...he said the one he went to last week was an easier version so was told to come along to this one...he will be amongst not only people with COPD but heart problems as well, I am sure that is what he said...a bit of a mixture, so not only lung or breathing problems....then afterwards he is doing a small supermarket shop for himself...he could be a good three - four hours...Time to go play Coronation Street (recorded) viewing catch-up for an hour...

Al and I were friends as well. We lived close to each other and when I didn't  hear from him I would go check on He and his wife. Especially after a storm when the lines were down. I met him face to face when I moved to McKinleyville from southern California.

I am using Papa John's favorite text color today, since his name was mentioned and made me remember all his green posts!

Many people have come, stayed for varying times and gone away, some to eternal life and some just to other pursuits, I guess.  I miss some of them a lot!  But we are still hanging in here, aren't we?  So sad that our Pat isn't able to do what she loves doing, right now.

I have a lot of things ready to take out to enter into the fair; besides three paintings, the rest are collections of various kinds. Since only three items are required to enter as a collection, I found quite a few, could have found more but I got tired!  ;)  I also went to the care home and got five entries ready for Beth, just from stuff in her room--pigs and elephants, mostly!  They will take them out and enter them for her.  She always wants to be a part, so I do that for her.

I am really distressed by Beth's condition.  Yesterday she was just staring, vacantly, her eyes had no sparkle, her mouth was open, and she didn't respond to me at all!  That has never happened before.
I couldn't get her to smile at all.  :'(  When I got home and told Darrel, he said, "Well, don't you think she has suffered long enough?"  I do.  But it doesn't make it any easier to watch.

On a happier note--Today is Darrel's and my 36th anniversary!  36 wonderful years!  How I praise God for putting the two of us together!

Do you suppose he might want to take me to lunch before I go to work at the fairgrounds?   ;) :D

Janet...
...you are welcome... :) hope your day went all to plan for the pair of you....
.......................................
Well not every day-night I sleep for a whole 8 hours..my usual time of getting up is 5.am...I went to bed around midnight and only woke up at 8am, half hour ago...of course the first thing I must do if I want to eat breakfast at a breakfast time is to take my Omeprazole...has to be taken on an empty stomach allowing me a couple of hours so I shall be eating breakfast around the 10.30am mark...

My yesterday walking was really bad, Larry yes for the first time I used my outdoor rollator inside my home, even that took all my effort...Yesterday for the first time in a long time I wasn't able to do things myself, the things I would normally do on a day to day basis...Even boiling an egg for my egg sandwich, I had to get Richard to put the eggs in then later carry the boiling saucepan from the cooker to the kitchen tabletop..I managed to do the rest but it was hard having to let go and risk balancing...there was other simple things I had to ask him to do after he came back from walking Toby, and he is not a man who does things willingly without some huffing and puffing to ask him to move from one place to another, yet his legs are near to perfect...Anyway by late evening everything that has built up during the day usually dies down by late evening and by bedtime I sleep comfortable, thank you God.. then starts up again as the day progresses but I really want these to just stop, go away...spoke to soon, just had my first leg spasm, ( not cramp )...a kindof muscle pulling, but believe you me they do get a whole lot worse, nerve damage..and I have to admit I am going through a pain experience few days, guess its been building up through the last week now to its maximum...d***n this MS....Janet...my sympathies go out to your Ruth...it is s horrible horrible illness...oh just had my second one, can tell they are starting to warm up for the day...MS cant be explained to people who dont suffer with it...

Hi everyone. This morning starts off nice and sunny but we will see cloudy this afternoon with a small chance of any rain.  Besides some household chores, many of which I have already accomplished, the only thing on tap for today is meeting Scott and Jennifer at Diablos for dinner fairly early this evening and then they will be out to spend a couple of hours.

Pat and Jennifer had an enjoyable time out yesterday visiting JoAnn's and then having a good meal at a Chinese Buffet that is right next door to JoAnn's. When they got home they sat down and Pat started to show her how to croquet and realized that Jennifer was left handed.  So Jennifer will have to learn from some videos on the Internet.  Pat said she knew that it was difficult for a right handed person to teach a left handed person to do that.  Pat is going to let Jennifer have the portable Bernina sewing machine she has as it is too heavy for Pat to take anywhere and she has a regular Bernina in her sewing studio and the Singer Featherweight downstairs in the sun room so no longer has a need for the other machine.

For the first time in a number of days I felt good yesterday and got out as planned and made quick stops at a hardware store, had lunch, made a quick stop at Walmart looking for something I didn't find, and finally stopped at Aldi's.  Rather than watch TV last evening Pat and I elected to listen to our audiobooks.

I went into my backyard a little bit ago with my trimming shears and cut out some creeping vines that were growing in one of our two corner bushes as well as trimming some of the branches of the holly bush that were getting grown out quite a bit.  Tomorrow I will be able to put it on the street and the city will pick the trimming up.

Jackie, sorry you had such a time yesterday and can only hope you have a better day today.  I know when we have been independent it is hard to have to ask someone for help.  I wonder what got into Toby?

Marilyn, I remember you living near to Al Moak and visiting with he and his wife.  After his wife passed away he sold out and moved to Texas near to his son in a nursing home or assisted living facility.

Janet, the green text color is very easy to read and it does bring back memories of Papa John.  I was able to meet he and Cornelia a few times over the years as they went through Atlanta returning to Nashville from Florida.  The first time I met him was at the SeniorNet Bash in Atlanta in 1998.  I hope you win a lot of ribbons and dollars with your painting and collections.  Sorry that you found Beth in such bad condition on Monday.  I know you are greatly concerned.  Happy Anniversary on your 36th.

Jackie, your mention of boiled eggs reminds me mention that eggs wee $0.39/dozen at Aldi's yesterday. I have never heard of Clonus before.  I read the article you linked to.

Janet

I'm using green again for Larry, as he finds it easy to read!  :)  Just a quick post before I go out to the fair to assist the judge, get the ribbons on the items, add any remarks she has to the cards, then get all displayed.  This year, they added the 4-H arts (draw, sketch, paint) to our area,
which really increased the amount of work for us and will add hours to the time I have to work today.
Ask me what the pay is!  ;)  I enjoy it, but this year seems really hard.  I was really exhausted when I got home last night; didn't sleep well and am still tired this morning.  But I have asked my Father for strength for today, and He never lets me down!

Jeanne, I'm so thankful for the kindness of your new trash removal folks!  It renews our faith in the goodness of people to hear things like that.

Our anniversary was pretty much a wash.  No time, no energy; but we will do something in a few days to celebrate.  All is well.

Jackie, I'm sorry for all your leg pains and spasms.  If Beth has those, she is unable to tell us about them.  John brought her out to the fair yesterday, and I was so distressed, because he had her out in the terrible heat - well over 100* - and when he brought her inside where I was working, I felt her arms and she was unbelievably hot!  I asked him to please NOT have her out in that heat any more.
She is so pale it would take only a few minutes for her to get sunburned.  Ach!  What's a mother to do??  :-\

I have fifteen minutes to get to work, so I'd best get in the car and go!

Jeanne Lee

Jackie, I'm so sorry for you with the MS problems and the lack of consideration you receive.  I pray you're able to give it all to our Great Physician and receive His help.

I'm trying to get some extra water for the next few minutes because starting at 10:00 I'm on fast in preparation for my next Ct scan.  Then at 12:00 noon I have tostart drinking the contrast "goo".  And always, of course, depending on one of volunteer drivers to get  me there on time.  I can certainly thank my wonderful Lord for His care.

Janet, maybe the continuing tired is a signal that you should start slowing down...  just a little?  :)  For John to bring Beth into that heat sounds like he doesn't have a lot of common sense.

Green:  in honor of Al Moak.  A dear man who worked hard for The Lord.

Larry:  We did check flight costs and with all our paraphernalia, we figure that most wouldn't fit on the plane without an added cost. We are thinking of not going to Montana but lessening the mileage and going to Minnesota.  One grandson will be at school in St. Peter - he is coaching this summer and has a good scholarship for academics.   Nice that Pat is going to crochet or knit.  Anything like that is soothing.  I am so far behind on a quilt that I do not dare to pick up knitting needles.

Janet:  My heart goes out to you.  Bless Beth!

Today is a brunch at a nearby restaurant and a group of 5 is celebrating a birthday.  Don printed a personal card - he gets all the credit and I don't have to shop for a card.  There used to be six but the woman I know the least has severe dementia and cannot visit.  All of this group of friends is from the church.  Two of the women are slowly losing their spouses and it has taken a toll on their family.

You would not believe how upbeat and funny it will be to gather with them - they are my inspiration.  There is a lot of matter-of-fact conversation.

Yesterday, a wild drive and an angry driver almost caused a crash.  He came through a red light - Don was driving in the left lane & honked when the car came from nowhere and wanted us to stop - he looked like a criminal with such an angry face - then suddenly drove the 2 blocks to a hamburger place.  Glad we were not in line with the crazed man.

Jeanne Lee:  Prayer for good news on your CT scan.

Jackie:  Prayers for your physical health and that you may find comfort and ease the days ahead.

Jackie, it's barium sulfate.  A quart, white, slightly thick and a pleasant flavor, to be taken in 1/4 increments starting 2 hours before the scan.  CT scans for me now will be on an approximate three month schedule to keep track of my non-hodgkins lymphoma, unless it gets worse.

I'm home after another hard day of work.  Although I do enjoy it; getting to talk to those who bring their art works to enter and seeing their creativity, it surely took the starch out of me this year!  :P  I feel I could go to bed now and go right to sleep!  However, I do want to go back out to the free concert by a young fellow from a nearby town, at 7:00.  This one is inside where it's air conditioned; the ones the next two nights, also featuring young area talent, are to be outdoors, and it's just too hot for that!

I walked by and looked to see if I did well with my entries in the collections--I did!  ;)

Beth and John were out again today, but he didn't keep her outdoors so long today.  The commercial booths inside opened at 11:00, so I think they were in there.  And I did manage to coax a smile from her today.

Jeanne, I pray the results from your CT scan will bring good news!

The DON from care home called me today.  Beth's weight is down to 117, and they told me if she keeps losing, she cannot live much longer.  :'(  But she said John asked Beth's doctor, and he gave John permission to feed Beth anything she wants.  That was the problem to start with, but that doctor sees her for a maximum of 5 minutes a month, so there is a lot he doesn't know or understand.  :(

Carol, nice to get together with friends for talk and laughter, does a body good!  Glad Don was able to avert being in an accident because of the crazy driver.  Scary out there sometimes!

I believe our high today was a balmy 103*  Whew!

Hi, friends,

It's good to hear Pat is being discharged.

I'm so sorry to hear of the various difficulties we have here in the forum. Won't it be wonderful when the time comes that we no longer get sick or have crippling diseases. A young friend called me today and he was relating what he had read in the Bible.

God bless you all,

Ruth Ann

Another bad day in the making...I cant do without my rollator even if the wheels keep catching along the borders or catching chair legs, worse than learning to drive...guess my rollator is on the wide side but it is taking all of my heavy weight baring on it...another day of sudden spasms, it doesn't care if I am sitting minding my own business, trying to stand up, or taking some steps, even come when I let go of my walker for that odd second to do something....if it decides to spasm it will and it does with no warning..... some are a part of a spasm others are a full spasm, they do come with pain...

Hi everyone. We have a nice sunny morning and it is going to be in the mid-90's today.  It looks like it is going to be another good day for me as feel like doing things this morning.  I will take my friend or coffee and back to his care home and then plan on going back to the Church for the Wisdom group, which I have not attended for the last couple of weeks.

We had a nice dinner at Diablos with Scott and Jennifer and then a very pleasant evening with them.  For the last three weeks or so they have been playing a little game called Farkle and they really enjoy it.  It is a little game played with six dice and the score is determined by what is thrown in two tries.  I will probably watch some of the British Open Golf Tournament, although the time difference may interfere with that as it is already on this morning.  I see the Jordan Spieth is off to a very good start and currently leads.

Janet, your hard work at the fair is your gift to your community.  Probably most people have no idea of how much work it is for you. Sorry to read that Beth is losing weight and what it means.  I know it is sort of like a weight hanging over your head and remember how I dreaded to get a call and see it was from the hospital, which we had a lot of with Stacey.  I don't understand why Beth was not allowed to eat whatever she liked before now.

Jeanne, hope the CT Scan wasn't too hard on you yesterday.  I don't think I was aware that you had non-hodgkins lymphoma.  Sure pray that you will good a good report from the scan.

Carol, maybe you can make your Montana trip later as a separate venture after you see how tough the Minnesota trip is for you.  Is your grandson's scholarship for his hockey skills?

Jackie, I see you are having more difficulties today in getting around.  It seems your MS is progressing very quickly but I know you have the worst type.  Sure glad you got that Rollator to use.  Basically the SeniorNet discussions were much like we have hear and on S&F's.  Since these discussions and sites are for Seniors we all know that there will also be changes and loses of folks as time goes on. Some of us have been doing this for 20 years or more.

Very happy to read that Pat is now discharged form the hospital.  I do hope she is feeling better.

Ruth Ann, the call from the young friend who called and wanted to talk about what he had read in the Bible certainly must have made your heart sing.

Carol

It is a wonderful cool morning here.  We are into the normal afternoon storms where everything has to be closed for a few hours.  So fortunate to not be driving in commuter traffic.

Jackie:  Would leg massage or stretching help?

Pat: Hooray!  Great news - hugs and prayers to you.

Larry:  It is an academic scholarship - he is a math major.  The job he has this summer is coaching hockey.  It is an old Christian school.   His team won 3 and lost 1.  I think two trips would be too much for both of us.

Ruth Ann:  Your phone call from the young man must have been a cherished moment.  Take care.

Carol...
...on a good day, when no leg spasms it does feel so good to press and hold my stomach in tight and give it a lift, I know this sounds strange but a good stretch upwards feels so good...I was diagnosed with Meralgia Paraesthetica at the same time I was given my PPMS diagnoses, ( entrapment neuropathy of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve ) top of right leg inner thigh, not sure it was diagnosed correctly but I know leg spasm'ing-spasticity is all part and parcel of my disease...at times the thigh-groin area feels as if it is twisted...

I wish I could stay on the subject of this forum, which is Christian talk instead of talking about my MS, if only...but like the rest of us, our medical issues tend to be taking over our lives...I need to stay focused that no matter what, I am, and always will be, in the capable hands of our maker - God...

Jeanne Lee...
...now dont forget to reward yourself with a cream cake when you get home after your CT Scan ordeal, at least you deserve that...and worry about the calories later...Well that's what I done when I came home after my MRI Scan, my Scan was very late in the day, no food....Now promise not to tell anyone but, I actually ate two...

Jackie, you must have missed it.  :) That's the same video Larry gave us two days ago.

It isn't the CT scan I mind - that's easy.  It's the getting from my house to a car and then coming home getting from the car into the house.  Those activities take my breath away, taking five minutes to get it back.  Oh well, there are so many who are much worse off than I am that I don't feel I have a right to complain.  I at least have the Lord to lean on.

Jeanne, you know what? there is another way of looking at it....there are so many who are better off than you are, saying the same thing as you right now.....which puts you in the bracket of " so many worse off..." if you understand what I mean...you have as much right to complain as anyone, without having to feel guilty...

I am off to my bed now to have a read which helps me to fall asleep....leg has calmed down as it usually does by end of day, with or without spasms and - or electric shocks...so I shall say a good night and God bless to our group of Christian friends...

Hi friends,

The temps went to 97 in our city today. It is suggested that the very young and the elders stay inside until 7 pm tomorrow. Our humidity readings are high enough to send the "feels like" temperatures into the low 100s.

I fell into a pity kettle over something said today, but God sent a perceptive friend to lift my spirits with a cheery phone call. :) Now that silly old pity kettle is not with me anymore.

Yes, the young man is very sweet. He is a low-functioning adult and so many adults ignore him because of his challenges. I've always tried to explain things to him that may be confusing to his level of understanding. Thanks be to God, he has given his life to Jesus, and is reading the Bible app on his phone as he has time. :)

He thinks of me as his adopted grandma, since his favorite grandma and I were friends before her death.

Y'all have a wonderful day.

Ruth Ann

Jackie, I don't see it that anyone is better off than I am.  I really have nothing to complain about because, I have Jesus and nothing can be better than that.   :excited:

It is nearly 1:00 AM, and I am having a restless night, so came to see what's been happening here, and have read all your posts.

I'm so happy to read that Pat has been discharged from the hospital, and hope that means she is having much less pain now.

Jackie, you do seem to have a lot of pain also, I pray it lessens day by day.

Carol, I hope you and Don are able to do whichever trip is most important to you.  It's hard to give up doing what we've always done.  :(

Jeanne, I hope by now the CT scan and accompanying getting out and back into your house are over.
And that you got a good report!  <3  For sure, when we have Jesus, we have everything!

Larry, Beth has always been allowed to eat anything she wants.  The problem is that John tries to feed her what HE THINKS SHE WANTS, things she physically cannot chew or swallow any more, causing pain and choking, then she stops eating, thus making the weight loss worse.  The thing is, he will not listen to them, nor to me.  His health is getting worse all the time, as well.  He is down to 100# now,
and still he refuses to go to a doctor.  I reminded him Wed. evening of Beth's care plan on Thursday,
but he forgot, and took her out to the fair again.  So we had it without them, which gave me a chance to ask about his behavior and treatment of Beth without his being there, so maybe it was a good thing. I apologize for talking about it so much, but it is so distressing to me.  I know Larry understands what I'm dealing with here.  Thanks, Larry.

My fair duties are almost over; all I have left is to take the art down, stack each person's things together so they can find them all, and be there to release them on Saturday morning.  :)

Ruth Ann, I never heard the term 'pity kettle' before.  I have heard of people being on their 'pity pot,' and kettle does sound better!   ;)  So nice of you to help the young man, and wonderful that he knows Jesus now!

Abby called and was really upset about the things going on with Beth.  She is such a caring, compassionate young lady.  I love her to pieces!  (Not literally ;))  She invited us to lunch on Sunday,
to celebrate her birthday, which was the 14th.  She is 20 now!  How the years have flown!! :o

I think I'll read a while and then go back to bed and try to get some sleep!

Janet...
...it isnt just Larry Hanna who understands what your Beth is going through or what you are going through...I do too, I also suffer MS, as you all know, I just have different symptoms but fully aware of the symptoms you talk about over Beth, I have been amongst these people and witnessed it myself.......OMG..someone needs to take over the caring of Beth, this treatment from John cannot go on, he is doing all the wrong things...Is their an MS Nurse Specialist that comes to visit her for a start? I know that is not a solution as she - he isn't there to witness on a day to day basis...but someone from the MS Society needs to be aware of what is going on, for her own benefit...
...Janet, I want to give you a cuddle, I shall give you a cuddle, a group cuddle would be better... :grouphug: I know how hard it is for you not being close and that feeling of wanting to cry out for help, just someone to take care of Beth the way that would make you worry a whole lot less...one of the hardest jobs being a mother, and feeling that you should be doing more...well you are a good, loyal and caring mother Janet...and God knows that you are...Ok, I have said my peace...

Jeanne Lee...
...you are so right..HE ( God, ) and no one else, will be our trustworthy saviour at the end of the day...

I never heard these phrases of " Pity Kettle " " Pity Pot " or " Pity Party " until I joined S & Fs, guess we dont seem to use them over here in UK but....I think we are now at the age to have the odd one without having to feel guilty, we have earnt the right...as long as they dont last too long...remember,
" no two days are ever the same..." thank you God...

Hi everyone. Another very hot day on tap here in South Carolina going up into the mid-90's by afternoon.  When I came out of the Church yesterday about 12:45 the car registered the outside temperature at 107 (the car had been parked in the sun0 and the inside must have been 120 or so.  It took a little bit for the A/C to cool things down.

I have two things on the agenda for today.  I have my appointment at the GP's office at 10:30 and then will go to Walmart to pick up the online grocery order Pat put in yesterday.  The rest of the day will be spent inside where it is cool.

Carol, I certainly understand your statement about the second trip being too much to consider.  I have been feeling this way about another trip to visit friends where we moved from and it is only 2 1/2 hour and that is seeming too much.  I am not saying we might never make that trip again but certainly not anytime soon. Your grandson's math major will serve him all of his life and long after playing hockey is just a memory.

Jackie, I agree with your statement that "no matter what, I am, and always will be, in the capable hands of our maker - God".  Glad you treated yourself well after your MRI and enjoyed a couple of cream cakes.  I had to look it up to see what a cream cake was as that is not a term I hear used in America.  Do you make the cream cakes yourself? That is a nice video you posted and it is different that the link I posted.  I had never heard that version of the Lord's Prayer that was sung at the beginning of the video.

Jeanne, sorry to see it is so difficult for you to get to and from the car.

Ruth Ann, it sounds like that cheery phone call came just at the right time.  It is nice to be an adopted grandmother.

Janet, I am sure John would not do anything that would hurt Beth intentionally.  I know this is all a very sad situation for you as well as for them.  Sorry to read that John's health is also declining.  I know you will be glad when your fair duties are over.

Janet

I read for an hour, then did get several hours' good sleep!  :)  Thank you,
God.

Jackie, Beth isn't far away.  She lives here in our little town, in the nursing home (I always call it the Care Home.)  John has an apartment in town.  She was totally disabled when they married, so they have never been able to live together.  But John spends most of his waking hours there with Beth.  He used to take her to his place and cook for her, but he doesn't do that now.  Not sure if it's because he doesn't feel up to it, or what.  I didn't mean that you don't know what we are dealing with, I know you do, as you have the awful MS too.  I just meant, as a parent, Larry has been through the declining health of his daughter,
and then her transition to her eternal home.  If I hurt your feelings, I truly apologize--and thanks so much for the group hug!  I do love hugs.  They say so much, without needing words!  :)

It's on the way to 103* again here today.  I'm so glad I don't have anything on my calendar except my hair appointment!  Then I can stay in where it's cool.  I surely hope John doesn't take Beth out to the fair again today!

No, Larry, I also know John would not do anything intentionally to hurt Beth.  But he seems oblivious to the things he does, meaning to help, that do hurt her.  I love him for loving her; I just wish he would LISTEN!!

It's time to go to the "hair store!"  See you later!

Janet...
...I realised after I had posted that you was referring to one parent to another who has slowly watched the decline of their child...Oh I didn't realise Beth was in a care home and separation between John and herself....Beth is obviously getting the right care in the home but not the best of care when in the hands of John, who no doubt is assuming he is doing the best for her, in his eyes he is but in our eyes, doing more damage, unintentionally of course....It also sounds as if John needs someone to prod him out of his stubbornness, and seek the medical care he now needs, before his health takes a turn for the worse.....

Larry Hanna...
...I am happy you watched my video clip and hope that Jeanne decides to watch it also, after knowing my clip is different to yours...Larry if you have never had an individual fresh cream cake, you dont know what you are missing...such as a chocolate eclair, or cream apple turnover
..................................................
We are having a day of heavy rain, no sign of sun, very grey and gloomy....but I am ok with this weather, apart from being cosy and dry indoors, I still prefer this weather to hot and sunny....I think Richard and Toby may have just gone out in it as Toby wouldn't budge earlier when Richard got ready and was at the front door ready to take him, this makes it a tad awkward as Toby would normally be having his second meal in half hour or so, then a second walk but, I am sure Richard wont want to go out in the rain again....It wasnt pelting down so much earlier but is sounds heavy now...

My today walking is a tad better than it has been for the last week or so...at least I am moving around free from my rollator but still having the odd spasm'ings, but as long as I cling onto anything and everything as I move around, using my good foot in front first then dragging my right foot along from behind, I can get myself from a to b....I still have the lumpy pain feeling to the right side of my groin - lower stomach, but I suffer with that most days anyway....

Oh I think they are on their way in, two drowned rats that need drying....and Toby is not the easiest of dogs to dry...he gets real ratty and doesn't take too kindly to the towel, nor being dried on his tail...legs...head...

Hi everyone. It is going to be another very hot day here just as yesterday was but this afternoon we are to be under a heat advisory due to a high dew point and the extreme heat.  I plan on getting out this morning and attending a meeting and then staying in the rest of the day. There was nothing exciting about yesterday.  The doctor's appointment went well.  The PA told me I should take a B Complex vitamin and increase my salt intake. I went from there to Walmart for my groceries.  I had called on the way to say I would be there in five minutes.  As I drove up the door opened and the clerk rolled out my groceries as she had been waiting for me at the door.  That was a first.  I stopped at Arby's and picked up a couple of sandwiches for our lunch.

Janet, I hope you were able to stay in where it was cool yesterday after getting your hair fixed.  The heat really made me tired yesterday after being out in it.

Jackie, my mother used to make cakes out of fresh whole milk so probably have had cakes with a lot of cream in them.  Over here a chocolate eclair or apple turnovers are donut like pastries that are filled.  Yesterday at Arby's I had to wait a fairly long time for my takeout order and the employee filling order saw me and asked my name.  Someone had scrolled their order screen over before my order was filled.  He apologized and offered me a free apple fritter, which I accepted.  However, they must run over the apples with a steam roller as the filling was very thin.  I certainly wouldn't pay for one of them to eat.  Glad your walking was better yesterday.

Carol

Today is a relief from the normal heat - we will gladly take it.  Giving thanks - we couldn't afford air conditioning when two of the four children were born in the Denver area years ago.   That little brick  house was stifling hot so we all had cool showers or bathing around 5 in the afternoon.

Praying over each message.

Janet

Hooray!!  Fair for 2017 is all over!!  I went out at 9:00 and took photos of some of the HS kids' work that was really outstanding, then stacked the paper things up by family names, then took down the hanging things and stacked them in the same way.  Then I went into the next room and gathered up all of my entries there, and took them to the car--took four trips!  Then went back inside to collect my winnings, which totaled $110 this time!  :)

I'm going to post a bunch of pictures on Facebook, if any of you want to see them.

I have had cream cake before, in Croatia.  They served big, 4-inch square pieces!  It is very soft, almost a pudding consistency, and boy!  Is it ever delicious!

It isn't as hot here today, 97* as compared to yesterday's 103*!  Of course that is a big relief, but I still stayed in, once I got home.  I got everything put back away, and saved my little display boxes for another year.

That's all the exciting news I have for today!  :D

We got back home about 4:30 yesterday from our trip to Vancouver Wa and Portland Oregon. Keith had his exams at the Eye Institute, his peripheral vision is very minimal  and they want him to go back in September to see the Neuro-Opthalmologist to see if there is nerve damage causing the problem. It was great to visit with the grands. I drove both ways of course since he  can't drive anymore.

Hi everyone. It is going to be another hot 94 degree afternoon with little chance of rain.  I am going to have to turn my sprinkler system back on so it will water early tomorrow morning.  I expect this to be our normal Sunday with Sunday School and Church this morning and then just have a restful rest of the day.  Since the golf tournament is it England most of the play today will be over by the time we get home.  I really enjoyed watching it yesterday as the leader, Jordan Spieth, played masterfully.  He is ahead by three strokes starting this last day.

Yesterday my new neighbor, James, who lives across the street from us, brought over two bags of rocks and spread them in a place by my fence that was washing out and then poured the dirt from the two big planters I had on top of the rocks.  That should take care of the problem.  I traded him the planters and bases for the two bags of rocks and his labor.  He told me he had met the new neighbors that just bought the house next to us and it was an older woman with her son that would be moving in.  So our end of the street should remain a very quiet one.

Carol, we were like you in that we couldn't afford air conditioning when our children were little but we survived.

Janet, it sounds like you did very well at the Fair and came home with a nice amount of cash as well as your ribbons.  Do you have a display for your ribbons.

Marilyn, glad to see you have safely returned from your trip to Vancouver and Portland.

Thank you, Jackie, for the nice birthday graphic. It has been a good day.

In my way of thinking, I don't move on to the new age until all the birthday celebrations are over. Since I'll be eating with 2 of my children tomorrow, then I'm still 76. A silly old lady's rantings.

Hi everyone.  We were blessed last night with a very good rain and couple of hours after I set the sprinkler system to water this morning.  It looks like we will be having a bit cooler weather today, partly cloudy and another chance of more rain.

It was so hot yesterday that after Church we decided to just get some carryout for our meal and go home and eat it in the coolness of our home. We got home in time to see the final holes played in the British Open Golf Tourney and to see Jordan Spieth recover from a bad mistake and losing his lead to come back and win.  His prize, besides winning a major championship, was a nice check for $1.8 million.  The second place finisher also got over $1 million in prize money.

I expect to enjoy a very quiet week as nothing on the calendar until Wednesday evening when we will have dinner with Scott and Jennifer and then Thursday a full morning and then a Sunday School social in the early evening.  I may make a quick trip to Costco later this morning for a couple of items.

Jackie, a very nice birthday graphic for Ruth Ann.

Ruth Ann, a big happy birthday greeting to you as you continue your celebration with 2 of your children.  You are just a few months older than I am.

Janet, I saw the pictures you took of the Fair exhibits and all the ribbons.  Were all of those your entries and your ribbons?

Carol

Ruth Ann:  Happy Birthday!  :hbirthday:

Our middle son's birthday was the same day.  We will take him out for a meal - his girl friend will be there as well.

Yesterday, a large hawk sat on our deck keening away until Don tried to get a picture.

Colorado corn and peaches are in - so a trip to the store this morning.

Hi from the island!
Remember me....it has been awhile and time for my yearly post again.  Like Jane, I sit and read, care about everyone, then go back to my corner.
Has it really been 20 years, seems like only yesterday that Marilyn introduced me to this site and it has been a peaceful place to come ever since.

I am so happy that Pat is home again, and very sad about Beth.  We have had many prayers about our daughters, right Janet and Larry...God did not promise our lives would be easy.  (my keyboard is not working correctly and punctuation is a problem.)

Can anyone advise me about hearing aids.  I am going to be 85 in Sept. and am becoming very deaf.  Ears were damaged years ago by the large noisy computers I used to operate...of course that got better when our tech. improved, but not quite in time.  I am causing frustration to everyone (including me) and looking into something affordable.  Money is a problem and prices are out of sight.  Not to mention all the many scams around.  Not covered by our wonderful Medical and I do not have extra insurance.  Any opinions....or is it even worth the effort.  Lots of negative comments around!

We are having a cool summer after a very wet spring.  Not that I mind as it is really quite nice.  Lots of green garden, despite the level 2 water restrictions, so much building here on the island.  One day we will just go GLUB!

Do you remember my cat Squeek.  She is 21-22 yrs old now and still very much alive.  Still likes to play and is very vocal if hungry.  I took Billy Bob our adopted cat to the Vet as he was looking a little lethargic...had a complete blood panel done and things are okay.  He is 14 yrs. old and time to watch such things.

I am chugging along at a slow pace.  No longer able to enjoy my long walks but that is okay.  Life is all about adapting and change.  Thank goodness for pain pills and all the other stuff.

Janet, loved your artwork and it has inspired me to take up my brushes again.  Dept perception is a problem but can always say painting was intended as an abstract ^-^

Here is a little something that I found interesting...

Doubt is such a troubling thing-
So small and yet so cruel.
It can turn a simple task
Into a drowning pool.

Miss the posting of Judy and John.  Not to mention Pat....I miss church a lot but watch the services from Christ Church in Nashville and enjoy the teaching of Pastor Dan Scott and others.  Still much to learn even at this ancient age.

God less everyone.

:ia it is so good to see a post from you. I do re3member your cat Squeek. Oh my he is getting to be so old yet still active. Good care and food have kept him that way. I have 5 cats now. Bebe and Happy are gone to Rainbow bridge a year apart. happy 3 yrs now and Bebe tow yrs. I do have another dog though, her name is Freckles, she is a Queensland Blue heeler and Australian Shepard mix.

We got back home from Vancouver and Portland on friday. It has been busy here ever since. Lots to get caught up on including mmy PSP artwork for two different groups. I vacuumed the house this morning and have done a couple loads  of laundry. Finally got caught up on all the emails etc.  I went to the gym this morning and did a pretty good workout which In really needed after   eating too much over the past 6 days Will go to Tai Chi this afterno9on.

Keith's appointment at the eye institute  was  interesting. His peripheral  vision is pretty much not there. He has a spinal fluid filled cyst somewhere in his brain and will be going back to Portland nin sept. to see the Neuro-Opthalmologist to check to see  what optical nerve damage there is. Wed will be flying next time so I don't have that long drive there and back.  Our next trip is to the wedding of his youngest sone next month. that is going to be a crazy drive too since it is the weekend that about a million drivers will be on the road from all over the world going to see the Eclipse.  The wedding is on the day of the Eclipse Aug. 21st

We went to the theater Saturday with 26 members of our church. It was an audience participation melodrama and was so much fun. We all went for pizza after the  show.

Hello there, Liz!  How lovely to see a post from you again!  It's been far too long!  Wow!  I don't think I've ever heard of a cat living that long!  Good for you, for taking such wonderful care of her!  My cat Dinah is about twelve now, I think.  Abby gave her to me when she,(Abby) was about 8, and she is now 20!  I'm sorry I don't have any good answers about hearing aids.  I wear them, and have some that are wonderful, but they were quite pricy.  The brand name is Resound, and I really like them.  Please pop in and visit more often, I miss you!

Larry, yes, all the ribbons were won at the fair this year.  I don't have a display for them.  They are made of cheap material and the colors change within a year, so then don't look pretty any more.  I was showing the girls that I have a whole drawer full of ribbons from past fairs. Some Items I won two and three ribbons each on.  ;)  I was putting Beth's things away in her room this morning, and noticed that she would have won five blue ribbons if I'd had the time to decorate the boxes I put her items in. :P
I certainly didn't have time to do that!  But will keep it in mind for the future.  She got two blues and three red ribbons, and $12.00 in premiums, so she was happy.

I was surprised and rather miffed that I didn't get prize money for any of the ribbons I won on my paintings.  They said if they are entered as Professional, they aren't eligible for prize money.  But that is not what the fair book says, so I will talk to them again about it.  The money doesn't matter, but fairness does!  :(

Marilyn, Keith seems to have some unusual and serious eye problems.  I hope he can get help for them.

My three great-granddaughters are here today.  They had two things they really wanted to do at my house:  Bake cookies and Paint!!  We baked cookies last night and painted today, so they are pretty content and quiet for now, which is why I'm here!  The 4 year old, Jenna, has been standing here regaling me with stories for about a half hour.  So cute!  She was telling me she cut her hair with the scissors, and added, "That was a bad idea!"

I told Darrel this morning that Grandma had a lot more energy than Great-Grandma has!  He said that was because I was 20 years younger!  I answered, "Try thirty-five!"  There are several of us in here who are only months apart in age.  Too bad we can't get together for a party!  Wouldn't that be a wild one?

Happy Birthday, Ruth Ann!  What a nice card Jackie made for you!  :)

Hi everyone. We are seeing a little sun this morning but the forecast is for cloudy weather most of the day.  We had another over one inch rain yesterday afternoon with lots of lightning and Thunder.  So this makes over 2 inches of rain in two days.  During the first storm a lightning strike hit at our local airport and knocked out the runway lights.  There were a couple of early morning flights that had to be cancelled that would have taken off before daylight.  I didn't get to Costco yesterday as I had planned as was too weary.  However, I will be going over there this morning.  I have already done the morning chores of emptying the dishwasher and getting a couple of things ready, such as the coffee and getting the strawberries out of the freezer that Pat will have with her breakfast.  That will likely be pretty much it for today.

The moving van just arrived next door so my new neighbors will be moving in today.  So it will be a busy day in the neighborhood.

Carol, always a good time when fresh produce and fruits are available.

Liz, always nice to see a posting appear from you.  Glad you can enjoy the postings.  Your cat is very unusual to still be around at such an advanced age.  You must give it a lot of tender, loving care. You are right about the many prayers for our daughters and all who need prayer that we are aware of.  I can be of no help on the hearing aid questions as neither Pat nor I wear them.  However, I expect before too many more years Pat will need them.  Sure wish you could send some of your coolness down our way as it has been very hot here in the South.

Marilyn, you sure have been busy the last few days since getting home.  Was glad to see you plan on flying for your next trip.  Nice you could enjoy the social time at the theater and then out to eat with your friends from your Church.

Janet, you certainly brought home a lot of ribbons on those beautiful fair entries.  I know what you mean about ribbons being made of cheap material.  For many years I saved a bunch of little prize ribbons from the time I was active in the 4-H club as a youth.  I think I finally discarded them when we made this last move. I hope it gave Beth some joy that she had things entered into the Fair and won blue and red ribbons and a few dollars. Having the little ones around is such a joy but also very tiring.  It is nice you can do things with them.

Carol

This is a warmer morning and no doubt the A/C will begin early.  It isn't calm and quiet either.  Very windy.  Last night our son who lives in walking distance drove his cherished jeep here to show us his work.  He took on a job that many mechanics wouldn't even try - and researched the "how to" - it turned out great.  We will be staying with his elderly dog next month for one week.  We had planned to make a trip to Montana but had not told anyone so we just said yes so our very generous boy could get away.  Happy to see him get a vacation break.

Tonight, 3 of Don's friends will be here for cribbage.  This is my usual quilting meeting at another house this time.

Liz:  I hope you find a reasonably priced hearing aid.  It is such a shame that these are so expensive.  Nice to see you posting.  Are you having decent weather?  We are hot every afternoon in the Denver area.

Don picked up a pamphlet from the VA hospital - it is Rick Warren titled "What on earth am I here for?"  The first sentence is, "It's not about you".  ---- Isn't that the truth?  Now to have a  :coffee: and read the good writing.

Janet

Good morning--just barely!

My little girls have gone home now, so our house is quiet again.  Darrel asked me if all little girls were that "screechy"  and I told him "Pretty much!"  They do giggle and squeal a lot while playing!

There is a lady coming to see me this afternoon who works with the visually impaired.  A long-time friend gave me her number and told me I should contact her and 'get my foot in the door' in case I need specialized products to help me see if the Macular Degeneration progresses.

I'm not sure I would have the energy to keep the girls for a whole week!  Boy, they have a lot of it! They had a really fun time, and that's what I wanted for them; plus the two older ones got art projects finished to enter in their fair which starts today.

I think I will take a little nap before the cleaning lady comes!  TTYL!

Hi,friends,

What a good time for me to be at the computer tonight. I have been refreshed by reading your messages.

I'll be seeing the doctor tomorrow for him to determine whether I should continue taking the new blood pressure medication. I think it's causing me to sleep too much.

I was giving thanks earlier for being able to speak by way of the computer to my son who lives in the Philippines.

Also I'm thankful for this group. Liz, my goodness how time flies! So good to see you.

Y'all have a good evening.

Love to everyone,
Ruth Ann

Hi everyone. The morning started out sunny but now we have an overcast sky with more cloudy weather predicted for today and the high up around 90 degrees.

Nothing on the schedule for me today so expect to stay home all day.  Pat may go to her gifts group in a little while but she hasn't said whether she is feeling up to going or not.  I did get to Costco yesterday morning and made fast work of it as was able to get an electric cart.  However, by the time I got home and unloaded the car I was really done in and rested most of the rest of the day.  This evening Scott and Jennifer should be out for dinner and to spend a few hours with us.

Carol, your son restoring the jeep sounds a lot like our son who restored a Datsun sports model car several years ago.  It is his pride and joy although he doesn't drive it.  I think it is over 40 years old. I am pretty sure he wouldn't attempt to do that now as his age is catching up with him.  It sounds like your son helped you settle your question about the Montana trip.  Hope Don enjoyed the cribbage and you your quilting group.  It is always nice to be with friends who have a common interest.  Have you read Rick Warren's books?

Janet, I don't think the screechy noises are limited to little girls.  We have a lot of little boys and girls at our Wednesday night dinner at Church and they love to run and play and they are not quiet. It sounds like a good idea to set up the contact for the specialized products and then hope and pray they would never be needed.  I think a week long visit of grandchildren perhaps should be limited to the grandparents and not the great grandparents.

Ruth Ann, I hope you get some good answers from your doctor today. Glad the computer provides you a way to stay in touch with your son.  Do you use Skype so you can have visual contact?

Carol

Finally touched base a brother who had a birthday on Sunday.  He is about to sell the huge RV after last winter's trip which resulted in the two of them waiting out a snowstorm.  Good Idea!

Our dessert last night was a choice of lactose-free ice cream and strawberries as well as Snickerdoodles.  That ice cream was very good.  Yes, we did talk quilting and so much more.  Don won several games of cribbage and gave the two new guys one of his home-made pens.  They liked the chocolate covered nuts for a snack.  so, now that decision is over  ;)  No more cheese and crackers - just little snacks.

Such appalling news this morning of a young man deliberately leaving a baby in a parking lot.  Praying for the family - he was arrested.   the baby is in hospital.

Ruth Ann:  Don uses SKYPE for hearing regular calls clearer.

Larry:  Yes, I have always like Rick Warren's messages.  Enjoy your day.

Janet:  Good idea to find the latest treatment and care for macular degeneration.  Hugs

Janet

Hey, everybody!  We have been running around again today.  Darrel had a urology appointment in Liberal, then we went on to Hooker and I got my nails done, then back by way of Hugoton and stopped at the grocery store.  I wanted to go by the fair, but they were still closed for judging.  Anyway, we made a full day of it, including eating lunch at the new IHOP in Liberal.  We did stop by and visit son-in-law Jeff for a few minutes--oh, yes!  Got the car washed, too.   ;D

Larry, your mention of the electric cart made me remember that while in Walmart today, a lady on one of those crashed into an end cap just close by Darrel.  She laughed and said, "I'm not a good driver!" He said he could tell that!  Then she said she got her driver's license out of a Cracker Jack box.  Hope she learns to manage better and doesn't hit anyone!

Liz, I must apologize for not asking about your daughter--and your granddaughter.  I do hope they are doing well.

And------I have a bit of GOOD news about Beth!!!  She gained FIVE POUNDS last week!!!  So I guess John taking her to the fair every day to eat, and then to Garden City on Saturday to eat at IHOP was a good thing!  So she weighs 122 now, up from 117.  Thank you, Jesus!

Horrible news about the semi trailer full of illegals left locked on a Walmart parking lot in San Antonio. They were screaming and begging for water, and when the back was finally opened several jumped out and ran away.  Eight people were dead, and another died after getting to hospital.  They estimate that well over 100 had been packed into that trailer in the suffocating heat, with NO water!  The driver was arrested, of course.  Each person had paid him Mega_bucks for smuggling them across the border.

:o :o I cannot believe this--football on TV already!!  How can they stand to play in this heat??  Florida State vs North Carolina, I'm sure it's pre-season or something.

I had to chuckle at little Chelsea the other evening.  I had taken them to McDonalds for supper, and they were surprised I was taking them inside to eat, rather than letting them eat in the car or bringing it home.  Chelsea looked at me so seriously and asked, "Do you ever get mad?"  So it makes me wonder what prompted that question!

The lady who came to see me about low vision was very interesting.  She is legally blind herself,
but manages well.  She does have a driver--strange fellow who never said one word, even though I talked to him.  Anyway, Mignon said when she was born she weighed five pounds, and every time she opened her eyes she would cry.  They didn't suspect her eyes hurt, but she said her mother took her to a healing meeting where they prayed for her.  Then when she took her to the Dr. for her 6-weeks checkup, he asked her, "What did you do to this baby?"  She had two older sisters, and her mom thought one of them may have dropped the baby, but she just asked, "Why?"  The doctor told her that when the baby was born, she had no spine and he thought the mom would have to carry her against her body until she got too big to handle, then she would be bedfast, but now she had a normal spine!!
WOW!!  God is still in the miracle business!  She said when she was six, her mom took her back to see that doctor, so she could meet him and he could see how she was doing, and the doctor said, "There's that miracle baby!!"  So she has managed on her own, even with really terrible eyesight problems,
but with no spine, she certainly couldn't have!

Okay, sorry, too long again!  Guess I tend to get carried away at times.  See you another day!

Hi everyone. It looks like we will be having another pretty warm day getting up into the mid-90's.  Yesterday afternoon we had a fairly brief period of rain.  However, about 5 miles away where my son lives there was a bad storm with very heavy rain, high winds and they lost electrical power for about 2 1/2 hours.  They came out a bit early to get in where it was cool and we enjoyed a nice supper that Pat had prepared with a little help from me.  She was having severe pain in the lower back so it was a quite unpleasant time for her. I am not sure how much longer we can be fixing meals like this.  Fortunately the Wednesday night dinners at Church will resume the first Wednesday of September.

Scott put up a small wind chime where the birds had been building their multistory nest in one corner of the porch that is covered and protected and hopefully that will deter them from building in the future.  We have another corner of the porch where we will put one but have to find one small enough to fit.

I will go to coffee in a few minutes but will pass on the Wisdom Group today at Church as need to save my energy for our Sunday School Party early this evening.  We are all old in the class so will meet at 5:30 and it will last 60-90 minutes so we will all be home before dark.  The party is being catered by the same place that catered it last year.  I just hope Pat is feeling up to attending.  If not, I will bring her meal home to her as we have already paid for our meals.

Carol, where does your brother live?  Is he the one who is still fighting fires or do I have this mixed up with someone else's brother? I would much rather have chocolate covered nuts for a snack than cheese and crackers.  Did your "so much more" exceed your quilting efforts?  :)

Janet, I thought your Fair was over.  Is this at another location?  Good news on the weight gain for Beth.  I expect by now the food served at the home is getting pretty repetitive and boring for Beth.  The electric carts are a bit difficult to drive until you get used to them and you don't want to turn corners too close to the displays.  I have clicked the corner of displays a time or two and sometimes they have so much stuff stacked in the aisles you can hardly get around them.  I like that ladies sense of humor.  You sure the football game was just a rerun.  I haven't seen anything about any preseason games and don't think the teams are allowed to do that.  I think the first games of the season will be right after September 1st.  Quite a story about the lady born without a spine.

Jeanne Lee

Dreary today with promises of some showers and possible thunder storms, the "worst" day all week.  Of course, this is the only day this week I need to go out.  My Dr. appointment to find out the result of the CT scan is this afternoon.

Where is Jackie?  It's not like her to miss so many days of posting.  I hope it's not because she's had such a setback she isn't well enough to let us know.

Janet, great news about Beth.  Five pounds in a week is a wonderful weight gain for her.  (Wish I could take off that much!   :D)

...thank you for noticing I am missing, yes, I thought I was coming out of my setback, but seemed to go a tad back into it, which has been making me feel as I am getting that one step nearer to specialised care...yet so far today, the spasms have been holding back but I am not back to where I was before my recent MS setback of a week or two ago, if any of this is still making some sense....Has been making me really ratty, yes, rattier than my usual self....

Yesterday, although I thought to try this before, but as always these things I think of often slip my mind...so I decided to give these a try, five toe ankle socks, yes I ordered a pair of white cotton " Vibram " white " sports " ( no, not so I can go ahead and do sporty things ) but so I can separate my burning, skin raw, and painful toes, ( Peripheral Neuropathy, ) so they dont keep rubbing together, the bare skin....not sure yet whether these are working as my feet have been a tad more comfortable today as was the same as yesterday, so too soon to know whether they will be worth the money, or another tasteless brainwave of an Idea of mine but, I will try anything if it gets rid of my toe pain of normally an every day discomfort that simply drives me crazy....I ordered them on the internet yesterday lunchtime today they dropped through my letter box, not bad from a first time delivery with a new company I have not ordered from before...And I dont even care how funny I look wearing them......

Jackie, it certainly sounds as though those socks should help.  Let us know how it works.

I'm just waiting for my ride to the latest doctor appointment.  This one for the results of the CT scan to see about the Non-hodgkins lymphoma and the tiny spots on my lung.

Hello.
I rarely post but am feeling restless and my head is spinning from all the data about hearing aids.  Have sort of settled on one brand and it will depend on what two different clinics come up with for a price....horrendous costs and such is life!  My lack of hearing is just too hard on my daughter and family.

Yes, Squeek is very old....we found out older than told in the beg. when we bought her from the granddaugher of a friend.  She is either 21 or 22 according to our vet.  Read about a cat in England that is in 30 something.....Go Squeek!!

I used to write poetry but have not done so in years.  Have been feeling so sick about the new lately....both US and Canada.  Sat down and wrote this poorly done poem...

     Listen to the noise
     Polluting our air.
     Sounds of a world
     Driven by despair.

     The Gentle voice of God
     Lost in the din
     Of boastful corruption,
     Fast increasing sin.

     When will it end
     This horrible strife-
     We must call upon Jesus
     To find peace in life.
                                     LW
Well, as Janet would say, that ends my soap box for the day.

Wendy and Amanda are doing the best they can.  Amanda is very busy with her work at the Cancer Clinic, a grand boyfriend who is a RN at another hospital, and many friends.
Wendy is of course always in pain, not helped much by menopause these days.  She works very hard in their beautiful garden and is always cheerful.  Especially with me in a dither about all this data on hearing aids.....

So now Jane, I have posted twice this year.  Come on out of your corner and give an update!

God Bless

CHANGE NOT THY FAITH WITH CHANGING TIMES

Janet

Liz, I think that is a lovely poem!  And so true of today.  Glad to hear Amanda is doing so well, and shall renew my prayers for Wendy.  I think it's terrible that they charge such exorbitant pries for hearing aids.  I know they have to research the technology to build them, but there isn't $10 worth of material in them!  They could lower the price to a fourth of what it is and still make money.  (Hearing aid gospel according to Janet.  ^-^)

Larry, our fair is over.  The one I spoke about yesterday is the Stevens County Fair in Hugoton where my daughter lives.  It is this week.  ;)  They have to try to stagger the times, as often there aren't enough judges to go around if all the fairs are the same week.

My sweet hubby got the new dishwasher installed this morning!  He had to get down on the floor and back up probably at least 20 times in the process, so he might be sore!  He was happy he could do it--and so am I!

My painting buddy Dee called and asked if I could meet her for lunch today.  We were just finishing up the dishwasher installation, so it worked out great, and we had a nice little visit.

Jackie, I'm sorry you have a bit of a backset with the leg problems.  Those things can really weary a person.  I hope the toe socks help with the painful toes!

Jeanne, I hope your visit to the doctor brings good news for you!

Not sure if these toe socks will help, just feels that I like my feet and toes to feel free, they just feel a bit restraining, but I will see tomorrow if the feet become troublesome, today hasn't been so bad, one of my less painless days...

Time here in UK is now just past eleven coming up to the witching hour, time I was tucked up warm and snug in bed, with a book of course, not that I read for long before I start dozing off...So Is shall say a good night and God Bless...and hope that tomorrow is a better day than today was, for all...

Hm just taken my socks off, they dont come high but have left a darkish purple colour ring - line, around both feet at the front, kindof lower than where my ankles are and with swelling above....The socks didn't feel tight but now I am moving my feet around I dont want to get deep vein thrombosis although I think that is the leg not the feet but as I do suffer swollen ugly feet, with small purple veins over the tops....I need to be careful, especially If I am now toddling off to my bed...I need to get my blood circulation back...

My doctor visit didn't turn out quite as I had hoped.  The 7mm spot that showed up on my lung in April has grown to 9mm - not exactly good news.  So another CT scan in September and if it has grown again a PET scan to be sure whether or not it's cancer.  All in God's hands, of course - all I need to do is "let go and let Him"!   :)

Noise - we just turned the t.v. off.  Now, they even fast talk through weather - for Pete's Sake!

Liz:  Perfect timing on your poetry.  We are retired and still everything is so noisy and fast around us.  Thanks for your reminder.  Good wishes on your hearing aid search.  Remember, they can be returned with a certain amount of time if they do not work well.

Larry:  My brother is in Chelan, Washington - where they had quite a few fires last year.  He is a volunteer and mainly drives a truck or mops up a fire and also responds to car accidents.  I wonder if there is something in your area where you could buy a couple of pre-made meals and freeze them.  That would be easy with a light salad.  Ask if anyone at church would consider doing it several times a week and have a take-away hamburger another night.  Just thinking .

Jackie:  Should you be propping your feet up more during the day?  How about trying a cold compress to ease the swelling?  -- The baby was his child - he is young but that is no excuse and I hope they don't go easy on him.

Jeanne Lee:  Take care.

We had fresh corn on the cob tonight and it was nice but not as sweet as we would normally expect from local corn.  Another afternoon typical shower and maybe a storm too is brewing.  Don is going to fix biscuits and gravy in the morning for our dear friend, who appears weaker every time we see him.

...so sorry to read it wasn't the best news you were expecting to hear...putting you through yet another stressful wait of another couple of months...these issues sure plays havoc with our lives and our minds....as you rightly say, all in the loving and caring hands of our maker, our God our Father....

Carol...
...first thing I looked for when I woke this morning, my usual time of 5.15am was...are my feet looking more like normal, I am relieved to say, yes they do...I do often raise my feet on a foot stall but only when I am sitting in the lounge watching tv, not at the computer....The elastic around the sock is widely elasticated, the socks come low, but something I will be aware of if indeed I risk wearing them again, otherwise I have a bottle of castor oil which I read that is good for foot Neuropathy, I have used it before and it does make my bone dry feet feel a lot more comfortable, relieves the tightness but, it is oil, not a greasy oil but my feet will need cleaning more often, and its my feet that is the hardest part for me to reach, bending my neck, L'hermittes...

Hi everyone. It is a hot and humid day here in South Carolina and will get into the mid 90's this afternoon.  Fortunately it is predicted to be cloudy later today.  I made a quick trip to Walmart to get a prescription for Pat and to pick up a couple of hardware items before it got too hot this morning.  Fortunately there was a riding cart available.  Still not feeling at all peppy.  Fortunately I have nothing else to do today.  The housekeeper is here so soon we will have a spic and span house again.

We had a very nice time at our Sunday School party last evening.  Almost all of the regular attendees on Sunday made it to the party.  The food was delicious and I was able to fix a plate full of food to bring home so our supper tonight is all set.  Pat was feeling better yesterday and seems to be OK today.

Jeanne, sorry the results of the CT were not what you wanted to hear.

Jackie, the daughter-in-law of my best friend was dealing with cancer and it caused her many problems with her feet.  She wore those 5-toed socks and it really gave her relief. I hope you will be able to tolerate them and that they provide you relief.  Was sorry to see you have suffered a setback.  Our daughter had Peripheral Neuropathy and her legs ached so badly and the muscles would get as hard as rocks.  When we were with her she always asked Pat to rub her legs and that seems to give her some relief.  She also used one of the hand wand type massager's on her legs.  In the past we have used TV type dinners but not for quite awhile as Pat is trying to avoid carbs as much as she can.  However, thanks for the suggestion.

Liz, you have captured the state of our world  and the only way we will find peace today in your poem. Jesus is the answer. So sorry to read that Wendy suffers such pain.  Is Amanda still doing her art work?

Janet, thanks for the info on the fair.  I expect you would enjoy being at a fair where you didn't have to work.  Glad the new dishwasher has been installed.

Carol, I am watching much less news on TV or other programs besides the national news at 6:30 and then we usually watch Wheel of Fortune.  I sometimes will also watch Jeopardy but Pat really doesn't care for it.  The last four evening we have just turned the TV off and listened to our individual audiobooks.  I thought it was your brother who fought fires.  We could get some prepacked meals but again they have carbs. We have very plain meals anymore with mainly meat or fish, a vegetable and often a salad.  I don't eat very much anymore so that is OK with me.  I try to have the pasta and things like that when we eat out but we need to cut that back as well as it is hard for Pat to get meals without the carbs. I also appreciate your suggestion.

Poor baby; poor parents.  It's terrible they wouldn't even allow them to take their own baby home to die in private.  We live in such a broken, sin-sick world.

Larry, I don't watch much other than the nightly news, either, but I get more than enough of it via emails!  If I'm feeling tired or not well, I can get down and discouraged pretty easily, so it's good not to watch the BAD news.  I always say.....BUT GOD........

I had a lovely date for lunch!  Grandson Curtis asked me to eat with him, as he is here in town doing work.  I always love some one on one time with him!  :)  Darrel was doing something and didn't choose to go with me, and that's okay.  :)

Larry, my sister Jeanie has been overweight for years, and just kept gaining slowly.  The first of this year she decided to go low carb, and has been faithful with it and has lost about 42# so far.  I'm proud of her for sticking with it so long, as she never did before.  I didn't realize that's what Pat is doing.
Good for her!  I hope your energy returns soon.

My, it feels like a steam bath outdoors here!  Whew!  It's only 85* but so muggy after the wonderful rain.  I should NOT be complaining!  (I'm sorry, Lord.)

Hi everyone. We have a 60% chance of some rain this morning and I sure hope it does rain and I won't need to turn the sprinklers on for watering on Monday.  However, it will be in the 90's again today.  I just had a quiet day yesterday and expect to have the same today as am very short of breath.

We are having a couple over this evening for a visit.  They attend our Sunday School class and we want to get to know them better.  We are doing a meal as that is just too hard and if they are agreeable we will perhaps go out to eat with them occasionally.  We really haven't developed a social circle of friends other than those we know from Church and see at Church.

Jackie and Janet, it is sad that we are no longer allowed to make many of our own decisions such as in the case of that poor family.  Regarding listening to the news, personally I want to stay informed but I sure don't need the same "breaking news" story told to me 50 times a day.  My memory may be less than it was but I remember the basics.  Nice you could have that special time with Curtis.  Those are times to be treasured.  Good news regarding your sisters weight lose.  Our heat pump does a great job of heating and cooling but a terrible job in getting the humidity out of the air.  This morning our little gauge shows we have 76% humidity in the house and while it is   78% humidity outside.

Jackie, you are so right about God giving us all kinds of weather so everyone has weather they like on occasion.  :)

Janet

God blessed us with another half-inch of rain last night!   I am so grateful for that, as it is pleasantly cool so far today.  I'm sure it will be steamy when the clouds roll away, but will enjoy it while it lasts!

We have the first load-or partial load-of dishes in the new dishwasher, as we were anxious to see how well it does.  It's a lot more complicated than the old one, as every cycle is adjustable in several ways.
And it requires the use of a drying agent, which the other didn't.  I'm sure I will get used to the differences soon enough.

I don't plan to do much other than rest today, as have had a couple nights of not much sleep and am feeling tired.

Hi everyone. It looks like we will be getting a break on the hot weather with it staying in the high 80's this afternoon.  Yesterday was a total wipe out for me as spent most of the morning and early afternoon laying down.  Our friends did come over for a couple of hours early in the evening.  We found out we have much in common with them.  We plan to go out to eat with them on occasion as they often eat out on Friday nights and we do also. I plan on going to Sunday School and Church this morning and then getting something to bring home for lunch.  Pat is not going as has a stabbing pain in her back again and didn't think she could sit still in the hard chairs or the pews.  Later this afternoon I will watch the conclusion of the RBC Gold Championship being played on a beautiful course in close to Ontario.

Janet, glad you had some more rain.  I have to wonder why our appliances are becoming so sophisticated. We have several different dials of menus on our LG washing machine and we basically use the same setting all of the time.  However, I have to say it is the best washer we have ever owned and spins the clothes almost dry so it takes very little time to finish drying them.

Janet

Happy Sunday morning, everybody!

Larry, when our washer conked out, we also got the LG one.  I was really unsure how it could clean the clothes well without an agitator, but, as you said, it really does a good job, and there isn't much drying to be done!  When we bought this dishwasher, the guy explained to us how the new washer works, and it was very interesting.  They had one with a glass lid so you could watch what it's doing, and Darrel wanted that one, but I didn't.  Now I wish we had gotten it!  The dishes came out of the new dishwasher sparkling clean, so once I learn all it's differences, I think I'll like it really well.  Like you, I don't see why they want to make everything so sophisticated, as I too use the same settings almost all the time.

Good news!  Beth told John yesterday she wanted to go home.  He said, "Where?" and she said, "Home.  Mom."  So he brought her out to see us!  They hadn't been in our house since Christmas!
Beth is looking so much better, as Darrel said, so much better it's almost scary!  But we're so thankful,
and hope it will continue.  I fed her a whole bowlful of homemade ice cream, and she ate with no problems at all!  Yes, John had some, too.  ;)  Just a week earlier, at the fair, she could hardly eat ice cream at all, because of the thick mucus, so that is a wonderful blessing.  They were planning to go see Cars 3 at the movies last night.  Thank you, Lord, thank you!!!

It's time to go to church, but I wanted to share the good news before I left!

Janet:  Super news on Beth visiting "home".

It looks like another afternoon storm is about to arrive.  Yesterday, it was predicted but actually landed miles away and there was flooding in some areas.

Our daughter drove here with both dogs and stayed overnight.  We treated her to a birthday dinner out - expecting a certain place to be open and we were surprised to see For Lease signs.  So, we ended up at a glorified hamburger place - it was good anyway.  We chatted with both grands on the cell phone.  Pampered the dogs with a few walks and treats.

A small pot of chicken soup is simmering - it just seemed the right thing to make.

Hi everyone. We had a glorious day yesterday with the high only getting to 85 degrees and low humidity.  Yesterday afternoon the humidity was on 44%.  It looks like today will also be very nice only getting up to around 90 degrees and so far only 50% humidity.  We have no rain in the forecast.

Only two things on the schedule for today.  The chair lift technician is due around 10 am.  It has been well over a year since he was last here and a couple of small problems have developed that need attention as well as regular maintenance.  Then probably this afternoon I will make a quick trip to Aldi's for a few items.  I had another exhausted day yesterday and went to bed about 8 pm and didn't get up this morning until around 8 am.  I did enjoy Sunday School and Church yesterday.

Janet, what brand of dishwasher did you buy?  We sure wish we had been able to bring our new LG range with us when we moved as Pat liked it much better than the new one that is in this house.  I hope you continue to like your new dishwasher.  I guess every new appliance has a learning period involved.  That is good news that Beth is doing better.  It sounds like getting out to the Fair was helpful to her.  I hope she and John enjoyed the movie and it is wonderful that he can take her to see the movies.  Glad you shared the good news.

Carol, it is frustrating to go someplace we have planned to go only to find them closed or out of business.  I am sure the restaurant business is a very competitive one and is certainly hard work for all concerned.  Glad you were able to visit with your daughter and celebrate her birthday.

Janet

Thank you, Carol.  Good you had a nice visit with your daughter and the "grand-dogs."  Sorry your restaurant of choice was closed, but nice you had a good meal anyway.  Sometimes those little hole-in-the-wall places have the best food!

Larry, the dishwasher is the top of the line Kitchen Aid.  We had a Maytag which lasted twice as long as people tell me we had a right to expect, so I'm expecting this one to go even longer!  I hope you are feeling stronger today.

Today we are going to Dodge City to pick up Darrel's shoes from the VA.

I am reading the book The Worst Hard Time, the story of the dust bowl.  I was raised in the epicenter of that disaster, but, being born in 1940, I thankfully missed the worst of it.  Knowing so much more by reading this book makes me wish I could talk to my parents about it.  They certainly went through the worst of it!  There was a documentary made in 1937 called The Plow that Broke the Plains, and I googled it and it is on youtube, so when I have time I want to watch it.  There are numerous families talked about in the book whose names I recognize, and a few I actually remember from years ago.

Carol

Very thankful for a cooler day and we missed a couple of heavy rains.  Did I mention we spotted two deer in the ravine?

We are so grateful for our family.  It wasn't the easiest time having four children to watch and raise - they loved the place on the lake in a village of 500 people in Minnesota - then, we were transferred to Dallas.  Can you imagine the shocking changes?  All survived and all found jobs, new friends, new church right away.  It was quite a learning curve.

This dishwasher is a Bosch.  It is super quiet and about 8 years old and super cleans.  The new one run forever though.

Janet:  Question - if not too personal.  What kind of shoes does Darrel get from the VA?  This VA has been wonderful for us.  The are rated very low and I only see kind and gentle care for everyone.  How on earth did anyone survive the dust bowl?  That will be my next search.  Thanks for the site.

Back to house work and sorting stuff to donate.  Don is about to make biscuits and gravy for our dear neighbor.  I took "the quilt" apart and will start from scratch.  Meaning, the blocks are all sewn but need to be pressed again and this time I will really pay attention to the order of placement.  Finishing this quilt will make me so happy - never again a full quilt.

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone. It is another beautiful morning here in South Carolina although the humidity is back up today.  Yesterday it was nice all day and the humidity stayed down.

The only thing on my schedule for today is to pay the first of the month bills (which I have already done), make a quick drive to Kroger's to pick up an online grocery order and then this evening Pat and I plan on going out to eat.  There are a couple of other little projects around the house I may tackle later this morning. The last couple of days I have felt better than I did last week for which I am grateful.

Janet, as to ask twice about the brand of dishwasher you got as when I saw your answer as to the brand I remembered you have indicated that before and I just forgot.  Kitchen Aid is certainly the top of the line and I hope you will get many years of usage from it. That sounds like an interesting book you are reading.  Like you I am glad I was born in 1941 and thus really have no memories of the hardships of World War II.

Carol, I don't think you had mentioned the deer before.  We have not seen any in our neighborhood but have seen them on the road that goes downtown. Like your children, mine were uprooted several times during their childhood as we moved for advancement in my job.  Fortunately, we lived for nine years in a suburb of Kansas City so they did have a stable living environment for elementary, middle and Scott for high school.  We did move to the Atlanta area when Stacey still had two more years of high school.  Our dishwasher, which is a Frigidaire, also runs for over an hour but does a super job of cleaning the dishes.  The cycle Pat uses for most load of clothes in the LG washer takes 117 minutes but that includes a second rinse. The last quilts that Pat has made are twin size and not sure she would tackle a bigger one but never know.

Janet

I'm going back to my default color, for today, at least!  :)

Carol, the VA has been wonderful to Darrel, too.  We used to have to drive clear to Amarillo, but now he goes to the satellite office in Liberal, so much closer.  The shoes he chose are a type of tennis, or sports shoes, with velcro closures.  He got one white and one black pair.  They also give him 12 pairs of socks a year, the soft diabetic ones.  They do have an assortment of shoes, some in leather, very sturdy, and all of them look nice.  He also got his hearing aids from the VA, and they supply free batteries for them. We have no complaints about the VA, they have treated Darrel very well!  We were in the VA hospital in Amarillo when Darrel had his first heart attack, and they sent him right over to the Baptist hospital just a few blocks away, where a very good surgeon found the blockage and put in his first stent.  Now, rather than Amarillo, they send him to Wichita for anything they can't handle in Liberal.

I heard that the Bosch is the very best dishwasher on the market, but they weren't available in Garden City, at least we didn't find any of them.  And if they cost more than the Kitchen Aid, then WOW!  They should really be something!  I read in the instructions on this one that some cycles run for almost 2 1/2 hours!!  :o  But they say they save on water.  Our water costs less (we have our own well) than the electricity!  The thing I dislike about this machine is that it is stainless steel, and shows fingerprints every time you touch it!  I always said I would NEVER have stainless appliances, but that's the only one they had.  Now, they have it that doesn't fingerprint, as the salesman showed us a refrigerator with that finish.  I guess I will have to get used to polishing more often.  :P

Larry, so happy to read that you are feeling stronger today!  Praise the Lord!  I finished reading the book yesterday while Darrel was driving.  Last night I watched the videos, several of them, from that time and following.  Now I want to read "The Grapes of Wrath" by John Steinbeck, also about those hard times.

My parents raised six kids during the depression and war years, but we all turned out okay.  They always taught us to work and not expect to get anything for nothing, to be respectful and kind, and took us to church from an early age.  I'm so thankful for my upbringing, even though at the time I was unhappy a lot and felt unwanted.  But God had a plan for that little girl!   :)

I'd better stop before I bore you all to tears!

Just realised I haven't posted for near on four days, as usual nothing much happening my side apart from I did manage a hair appointment which was months overdue Monday, a new village hairdressers, my first visit, I am happy with the cut, but boy, did she use that hairdryer on a too hot heat, felt it burn my scalp...The mature in age, she has been a hairdresser for 40 years, lady owner also runs another salon in the village somewhere, she lives alongside of this one which has hanging baskets running outside, not your usual type of hair salon, she also came a fair bit cheaper...I had to give up on my last salon as they have now turned the road, with its disabled parking bay into a pedestrian only walkway...

Our morning weather is rain, and for once I woke for the loo, and put on the light as last night before going to bed there was a very large spider in my bedroom which I had to call Richard to get rid of it, so the last thing I want, or need, is to step on another spider en-route, in the dark to the loo, not that there really would be another so quick as this is only the second one, almost same place, as one I encountered, guess a year ago, anyway I wasn't taking that risk...then I realised the time was just 4.am, now yesterday I did get up at 4.am, but I wasn't prepared to make a repeat of it, so with dressing table lamp turned off, I went back to sleep and woke at 8.am, that is a first for me...but I could get used to it...

Has Jeanne Lee posted recently? cant recollect seeing any postings...

Our rain is now heavy,  :rain: its grey outside, and Richard has ventured a morning walk with our Toby with his golfing waterproofs on...both wont be too happy as Richard doesn't like water in any shape or form....It will be down to me to do the drying of Toby and that comes harder than it sounds...Toby doesn't take kindly to parts of his body being touched...oh well, a bit of exercise for me... ;D

Hi everyone. It is a cool 66 degrees here this morning and it suppose to stay partly or mostly cloudy all day getting into the high 80's.  I woke up about 2:15 this morning and couldn't go back to sleep.  After an hour or so I got up and finished a jigsaw puzzles on the computer and read my email.  I then laid down again but still couldn't go to sleep so turned on the audiobook I am listening to.  I don't expect to go any where today so I will probably rest some later this morning and this afternoon.  Scott and Jennifer will be out this evening for dinner.  Pat put together a chicken casseroles last evening that is awaiting in the refrigerator and that will be our dinner tonight along with a lettuce salad that I will make later this afternoon.

I had an interesting experience yesterday at Kroger's, where I went to pick up Pat's online grocery order.  When the young man brought out the cart with our groceries I saw the receipt and it was for over $250.  I knew our groceries should have been in the $30 range.  There was a car next to me also getting her order, which was a large one and that was the ticket for her order.  However, they had put the three cartons of cola that Pat had ordered on her ticket.  So they had to adjust her ticket and mine.  In addition, Pat had ordered a box of Velveeta Cheese that wasn't in the box of groceries so the young man went in to retrieve it.  When he came out with it he said there would be no charge for the colas or the Velveeta Cheese as they had made the mistakes on the bills.  The bottom line is that they didn't charge me for around $19 worth of product.  I thanked him very much.  I have to wonder if he just didn't know how to redo the receipt although he told the other clerk loading the other car what he was doing and that seemed to be OK.  I was also told not to look a "gift horse" in the mouth.  Unfortunately we won't be shopping online at Kroger anymore because after three free orders all future orders are $4.99 per order regardless of amount.  Walmart, which is located across the street, has no order charge for purchases over $30, which seems to be no problem for us.

Janet, it is encouraging to hear that the VA has provided good medical treatment and services for Darrel and for Carol's husband.  It should be that way. Like you my sister and I were taught to work and it has served us well throughout our lives.  My mother started taking me to Church when I was 3 years old and my sister was just a baby.  We seldom missed a Sunday.  You are never boring with your postings.

Jackie, I missed your posting but glad to see it wasn't for any medical reason. Glad you were able to sleep late.  I read an article a few days ago about ways to keep spiders away and one I remember is using like a peppermint oil.  I just sent you a link to the video via email. Yes, Jeanne Lee has posted recently and I think the last posting I saw from her was yesterday.

Jeanne Lee

Don't worry, Jackie, I'm around.  Just as I was going to ask about you, there you were first thing this morning!   :D

Interesting about peppermint to deter spiders, Larry.  That's what I use to keep mice away, too.

When we bought this older house, I could not find any white appliances so stainless steel is installed.  Really  really dislike stainless steel.  The former owners were lax in housekeeping so we had to update.

Larry:  Interesting on the Kroger surcharge for your order.  That is a huge mistake for them - it will really hurt their sales.  This year, we caught Rainbow Trout, spotted a young moose and this was in the mountains - now the deer are back in our ravine.  So thankful for these special sightings.  We are planning on a whole state Minnesota trip and really hope to hear and see loon.  Our friends and relatives are all over the state and we will do our best to spend some special time with them.  Don's cousin is in her late 90's in Duluth and sharp - so easy to visit.  My last auntie is 102 in middle MN.  Cousins galore - we cannot see all.

Thanks for the tip on peppermint oil.  We regularly bug bomb twice a year and leave for the day.  It seems to do the job.  Being next to a ravine, and also keeping our windows open - bug gravitate to the house.

Don is at the VA this morning for a regular visit with his caregiver.  Not much has changed.

We will visit son tonight to check the list of things for our dog-sitting next week.  This is an older dog with special needs so we just hope for a peaceful time.

We are just home from Darrel's seeing his doctor in Liberal.  He had a rather unpleasant procedure done, which showed he has no blockage, so he should stay clear of the UTI's for a while!  He had to take some sedating pills an hour before, so I was the appointed driver coming home.
Since I was the "boss" I stopped in Hugoton to see Diane for a little bit.  He didn't mind, as he got some onion sets she was ready to pitch and a nice strawberry plant.

We stopped by to check on Beth this morning after leaving the gym.  She is still feeling good except for pain in her hands.  I haven't heard any complaints about that before.  :(

Since Diane and Jeff are going to use our pickup and trailer to move Abby back to college, we are having new tires put on the rear of the pickup.  That's close to $600.00.  Boy, tires are so expensive anymore!  We are giving Abby our queen sized bed, as we don't really have room for it.  I went upstairs and found the headboard for it, also the pump for the airbed they will borrow, so both Abby and the parents have something to sleep on for one night.  (Well, Abby for lots of nights!)  ;)

I'm still wrangling with the insurance company trying to get our trip money back.  May see some progress in a few days--I hope!  It's been six months already!

I'm tired.  Think I will go get my pajamas on and read for a while!

well hello there, from the south coast of Oregon.I have bee4n AWOL for a few days and had to catch up on some of y'all's posts. Not a whole lot is new here. Freckles almost gave me a heart attack on Saturday. I had her out front while I washed the car windows and she disappeared. She took herself for a walk. The neighbors and I were looking for her and calling her all up and down the street. I started down the hill on the dirt road to go look further from home and there she was running up the hill to meet me.  I put her leash on and scolded her all the way home. Then on Sunday Keith left the sliding door in the bedroom open, I was in the living room watching the evening news and spotted her walking across the front lawn. She got scolded again, but at least she was headed for the front of the house and I got to see her.

Hi, Friends,

I've been out today, purchasing groceries and buying both lunch and dinner meals.

I said I was going to do the laundry tonight, but time has passed and now my body wants to go to bed. :)

I got a new iPhone a couple of days ago, and apparently was headed for trouble with the old one.  The sales rep told me that the battery was swelling, causing the screen to bulge. Yikes!

Well, thank you for the comments.  I've enjoyed visiting with y'all tonight.

Love to all,
Ruth Ann

Yay my walking is today back to trustworthy, it has taken a few days to reach here...our weather is dry, sunny, warm but very windy...I was ready to venture outside after I waited in by myself to take in delivery of dog food...then Richard came back from his walk with Toby so I got my rollator ready for a short downhill walk, Richard tagged along side of me...We stopped and I chatted with a female neighbour after you turn right at the slope, on flatter ground, she was out pottering around her front piece of garden...This lady has - had her home on the market but its a bit hit and miss at the moment whether she has her buyer or not....This lady battled cancer last year and cancer treatment, she also has only half an arm, that was noticeable the day I first met her a year ago when we first moved here...Anyway after my last few bad weeks, it sure feels good getting out and breathing that fresh air...but it has taken the wind out of me, literally, just getting myself and pushing my rollator back up that steep hill, a few stops and starts and I make it home...

I taped an experimental documentary on a retirement home for four year olds, well it was a mixture of children and the Birmingham resident seniors who wished to take part for the six weeks...It showed the performance of the residents before and after....and of course the after results came out better...They said this is a usual thing in America that needs adopting over here in UK...The children and parents still come to visit...Links...

Hi everyone. We are expecting to have a somewhat cooler overcast day today getting up to only about 85 degrees.  I had a very good nights sleep last night and feel refreshed this morning.  I am looking forward to going to coffee and then after taking my friend back to his assisted living facility returning downtown to attend the Wisdom Class at the Church.  We had a nice evening with Scott and Jennifer last evening.

I am going to try to hold back a bit on comments today as seem to have been writing chapters of a book the last few days.

Jeanne, didn't know about the peppermint driving away mice.

Carol, Pat has never wanted stainless steel kitchen appliance either for the same reason.  I hope you and Don have a wonderful trip to Minnesota and it sounds like it will be a fairly long one.

Janet, glad to read that Beth was still feeling good yesterday.  It seems everything related to cars and homes and medical care has become very expensive.

Marilyn, I guess Freckles just needed a little outing on her own.  Glad she is fine.

Ruth Ann, I find that when I feel my iPhone getting hot that it often helps to turn it completely off and back on.

Jackie, it is nice to read your posting and see you are having a good day walking.

Shopping at COSTCO this morning.  It wasn't too crowded.   We visited with son last night and now have all the instructions for dog-sitting for next week.  Earlier, our granddaughter called and asked to meet us half way as she wanted to buy us a treat with coffee.  We never refuse a grands offer.  She is such a driven young woman and still a sweet personality.  Happy and content.  So, we met in Golden and that is an area that was panned for gold years ago.

Today, we are watching the hawks and enjoying a cooler day with possibility of rain.  I worked on the quilt for some time - must force myself to go down there and keep on project.

Ruth Ann:  It sounds like the battery was becoming dangerous.  glad that you had it checked.  How are you doing in the heat of summer?

Jackie:  When I was a co-Girl Scout leader, we used to bring the girls to nursing homes to sing, and just chat a bit.  The elders just loved to see youngsters.  Our boys were in scouts and they would raise and decorate Christmas trees - it is good to have children learn to appreciate seniors.

Marilyn:  I hope your dog doesn't try to escape again.  That is heart-stopping for sure.

Janet:  Very expensive tires - my mother always used to say that just pay the price as it was cheap insurance to have good tires.  She was right!  You will be safer.

Janet

Carol, that was one of the first things I learned about Darrel--he does not like to drive around on bald (or nearly bald) tires!  Yes, cheap insurance, but ouch when paying for them.
He didn't want Jeff driving Abby to school on worn tires, either.  God bless Darrel!

Ruth Ann, glad to read your post.  There are days when we must listen to our bodies, even if we had other plans.  Glad you were able to get out and do your errands, and that you got a new iPhone in time! That was scary!  Especially after hearing of all the phones exploding and starting fires recently.

Jackie, good to read you felt like taking a little walk.  Too bad you don't live on level ground.  You would love Kansas!  ;)

Larry, go ahead and write a whole book anytime you feel like it!  We love your posts!  We had a cool day here today, so pleasant!

Carol, I love getting out in nature when I can, watching and listening to the birds, etc.  And absolutely love getting to spend time with the grands any chance I have!  Yes, the residents of nursing homes love seeing children!  I wish more people, Sunday School teachers, scout leaders, etc. would bring the kids to visit.  It's good for the kids and the seniors.

Marilyn, it sounds as if Freckles wants to be a bit independent!  But scary for you!  Glad all turned out well.

Jackie, I will go back now and watch the documentaries you kindly gave us the links for.  Thanks!

Carol...
...it was very uplifting watching this documentary...I did miss the first week, it came in two parts....but we are so behind America in adopting doing this, this was an experiment of which obviously worked to everyone's advantage...not everyone is lucky having family visitors coming to visit them when in carehomes...these places can be very lonely for some, and some who were interviewed before the children arrived had very little feeling for living...

Janet...
...I have only got myself to blame...I was the one who chose this place, this home, I knew what I was taking on but, when it comes to the reality of living it, that brings a whole new challenge, it was easier said than done...
Janet, oh me too, I love everything nature, trees and birds...I am lucky where we now live, I can and do appreciate the trees from down the slope, a set of high trees, and all the surrounding greenery within our parkhome site, and the views, our place is stunning...even though Richard is not the same as me, he doesn't see the beauty...Although I cant seem to attract as many birds to my garden as I did from my last home...I dont now see any Starlings, I do miss the Starlings as they would always make a beeline to wash in the bird bath, it used to be fun to watch the water plashing up in the air...now I have yet to see any bird taking a drink of water...

Larry Hanna...
...I like book reading...I enjoy it... :)

Who would believe such a short walk would mess up my MS body, but it has, and it does...Richard is out doing his supermarket shop so, as our weather is warm, sunny and dry, I had the brainwave and thought I would give it a try by myself with my rollator and Toby...Well I first lock the front door, then the fun of manoeuvring my rollator from the kitchens back door, onto our decking, through the blue wooden gate to the side, getting myself through first and down the two concrete steps, followed by the rollator, after twisting it on its side to get it through the gate then down the steps, before opening it up to actually use...then after a long windy concrete path to the front, manoeuvring it through the plants to the front, then finally getting it down that final step onto the parkhomes road, in anticipation for my downhill short walk...veering off to the left towards the fenced alleyway, that was as far as I was able to go before my journey uphill back..then doing the same thing in reverse until I got into my kitchen, and found a chair....Now it will take my body sometime to get back to my usual MS normality...Was it all worth it?....well, I only briefly spoke to two people, one was the parkhome manager as he passed me in his car, we just said good morning, the other was the man who recently had a hip, or knee replacement, cant remember which, just a brief hello, as I asked him how he is after his opp, he answered but never stopped, his dog was off lead and of course Toby wanted to be too and go play with it...but I wasn't about to go let him off...Oh well, we have to at least give these ideas of ours a try...it was either that or look at these four walls all day...Toby will eventually get his full walk when Richard comes home...

Hi everyone. We have another overcast day with a 40% chance of some rain later.  It is suppose to get up to only around 85 degrees this afternoon.

The main activity for today is that the chair lift tech is coming again as the batteries in the chair are not charging.  This is pretty discouraging as they were just here on Monday to do some repairs, put in new batteries and do maintenance on the lift.  They think maybe the charger has failed and will put in a new one this morning.  I am convinced we got the lemon in this lift.  This was suppose to be the best lift on the market but we have had a lot of problems with it.  I plan on staying home all day.

Yesterday was a good day for me but turned out to be a very painful day for Pat as her back started spasming and wouldn't stop.  We have a massager like the chriopractor uses and I had to use it probably 5 or 6 times on her back to give her only momentary relief.  Finally after taking another pain pill and muscle relaxant and applying Aspercream to her back she was able to lay down and go to sleep and so far this morning is OK.  She plans to take it very easy today.

Jackie, so sorry to read that your hoped for good walk turned out to be so stressful and brought back your discomfort and pain.  I sure hope today finds you feeling better. Perhaps it would be wise not to try to get outside when Richard is not at home in case you need his help in getting back into the house.  I guess we all have to test our limits and when we feel better test again.  One of the things Pat and I enjoy in watching programs made in England is all the beautiful gardens.

Carol, I like to get to Costco just as they open and on a weekday morning as not too many people there yet.  Spending time with grandchildren is always a pleasure and your coffee with your granddaughter sounded extra special.  Many years ago I was in Denver for a two week upper management training course and the class was taken to Coors brewery in Golden for a tour as Coors is considered a very well managed company. It was an interesting experience.

Janet, Darrel is very wise to be sure your vehicles have good tires.  People from our Sunday School class go to one of the care facilities here on three Sunday's a month to provide a service for the residents.  I think there is another Church that goes the other Sundays.

I appreciate the comments that my postings aren't too long.  I start out with an intent to keep them short but they just grow and when I comment to one person I often try to comment to each poster as I hate to exclude anyone.  Of course, that is the purpose of my greeting at the beginning of each posting is hoping that all will feel included even if I don't mention their names.  I also enjoy reading all of the postings regardless of length.

Good Morning, I was so foggy here this morning but it lifted enough by 6:15 that I went to the gym an hour earlier than I usually go. After having breakfast I took Freckles for an early walk. I enjoy the cool morning air for a nice brisk walk with her.

This evening, it is the monthly Wine Walk in Coos Bay, Furry Friends sets up a table at one of the appliance stores where we set up a table with a donation jar and a poster with pictures of the places we take the dogs. I am in charge of seeing that it is set up and that there are two teams to showcase their dogs. This month it is my turn with another team to sit there for two hours, let people pet out dogs and tell them about Furry Friends.

Hi everyone. Just came back from the mailbox and wow is it ever humid this morning and we will probably see the low 90's this afternoon.  We did get just a short rain yesterday evening although there were severe thunderstorm warning for our county.  There is a 20% chance of showers this afternoon.

I have a light schedule planned for today.  I want to attend a meeting at 10:30 this morning and then hope to watch the golf match later this afternoon.  Our dinner tonight will be some delicious chicken enchiladas from the last batch that Pat made.  This is always a favorite meal for us.

Yesterday the tech was here for two hours working on the chair lift.  He brought another set of new batteries with him so that he could do further checking.  He put in a new charger for the batteries and apparently made other adjustments.  Since he had just been here on Monday there was no additional charge for his visit yesterday as apparently the charger was something still under the three year warranty.  I think every moving part of the chair has now been replaced.  Pat had a good day yesterday and didn't suffer a recurrence of the severe pain of Thursday.

Marilyn, I bet Freckles looks forward to those early morning walk when it is cool.  I hope a lot of people stopped at your table last night to learn about the Furry Friends and to give Freckles a lot of attention.

Carol

"Morning has broken...."  I just asked "ALEXA" to play the Cat Stevens version.

Larry:  I would hope that they would replace your entire chair lift as there are too many issues. You surely have a need for that lift.  Yes, Golden has the main Coors business.  Budweiser has a farm in Fort Collins and they have the beautiful Belgian  horses.  We looked at homes in the Golden area but it can flood as the town has some steep hills - plus, we like  walking on flat ground anymore especially at this altitude.

Today, we begin caring for son's dog - Loki - and he needs special care.  We will be back and forth for the entire week staying over there each night and  dropping in to check as well.

PAT:  How are you faring?  We were all happy to see you get out of hospital and now I just want to know how your days are improving now that you are home.  Take care.

My goodness!  This day has flown by!  I was up early, then after my Bible study time, made breakfast, ate, cleaned up the kitchen, then went to town to the Farmers' Market.
I bought tomatoes and tamales.  Yum!  I ate the last tomato from last Saturday with some bacon for my breakfast.  Darrel loves tamales and had told me if anyone had them, to get some.

Then I went to the care home, and cut the top of Beth's hair.  We are having pictures taken tomorrow at church for the new Church Directory, and I want her hair to look better.  The girls always just comb it flat against her head, tuck it behind her ears, and it looks terrible that way.  Or they want to braid it, which I hate!  It makes her look bald! Anyhow, I am taking some gel, some rollers, a barrette and a hair dryer in the morning so I can try to make it look better after church.  Okay, off the soapbox, Janet.  ;)

Jackie, how frustrating it must be to struggle that much trying to take a short walk.  I'm sorry.

Larry, I agree with Carol, that they should replace the entire chair lift!  Well, hopefully, the problems are all fixed now.  I pray Pat's back is feeling lots better by now.  Sorry she has such a problem with it,
as I know that really takes the joy out of life.

Carol, how old is Loki?  I remember touring the Coors facility many years ago, and found it so interesting, especially the bottling process.  I was amazed at that.  I hope Pat answers your question,
I am wondering about her, too.

Jackie, I watched the videos on the four-year-olds in the nursing homes.  What a wonderful idea--so beneficial to both the little ones and the older folks.  And four year olds are just wonderful!  So eager to learn, so friendly, and so lovable!  My 100 year old friend Maxine loves it when I bring my little g-grand girls to visit her.

We're going over to Hugoton so we can see Abby one more time before she moves back to Manhattan tomorrow!  TTYL!

Jackie, your problems and determination to take a short walk make me ashamed that I complain about the shortness of breath just going from the front door to a car.

Hi,friends,

What joy to sit in the quiet of my apartment and thank God for each of you as I read your posts!

Jeanne, I don't have COPD, but lately my asthma has caused me some times of trying to get my breath.

I'm going to fix some chicken in the slow cooker.  I've learned I really enjoy the taste of adding a bottle of Walmart's mild salsa (y'all can maybe take the hot stuff, but my taste turns to the mild variety) to the skinless and boneless chicken. An overnight of cooking leads to several bags full of tasty chicken with just enough seasoning to keep it moist and easy to eat. I especially like small half sandwiches as a meal. Yum-yum.

I'm forward to enjoying church services by computer tomorrow. Thanks to the expertise of the persons who make it possible to tune in on their worship services.

Y'all have a good rest of your day.

Love to everyone,
Ruth Ann

...doesn't our God work in mysterious ways...yesterday I was mumbling to Richard that I need the oomph putting back into me, ( I rarely get any responses when ever talking to him, ) about how deflated I was feeling about my church ( I haven't been for five weeks due to my MS setback, ) that no one probably is not missing me, nor has the Vicar kept to his promise of coming to my home to visit me as he kept on telling me that he and his lady vicar wife was going to do...I was starting to think that if I cant trust a vicar, who can I trust?...and I also contacted the church lady who sends out our emails on all the village activities taking place that I would love to come to some but I cant get there ( I dont want Richard being part of my church life, he has no beliefs whatsoever. Nor can I ever get it out of my head what he once done Christmas week a few years ago when he thought I was at evening Church, only I couldn't park my car so came home when he wasn't expecting me, I shall say no more apart from something he was enjoying on the computer... ) She emailed back that after a funeral she was soon to be attending she would sort transport out and get back to me, she never has, I am missing so much, cream teas and open gardens is just one I would love to go to, amongst other villages activities...I was so feeling left out of the church ( mot the church itself ) and wondering what was the point of me going there anymore, when, all us a sudden just a short while later the phone rang...Richard answered and called out, its for me, its my Vicar wanting to know if I was alright as several church members had told him they have not seen me in church lately...My faith has been restored...

Jeanne Lee...
...its not something I will be too eager to repeat again in a hurry...if I go out the front door it maybe less hassle but I do have three steeper concrete steps to go down, I do have a metal handrail of course but still will be a challenge for me...but once down the steps I will have a little less walking to go until I reach the starting of that down hill slope...Now if I go in the other direction, that will be a steep uphill, before I reach flatter ground but, oh what beautiful scenery if and when I reach there but, the coming back down I actually find harder than the going up, the rollator even using the breaks tends to run away with me...besides I have put extra weight on, not sure I could even get up their now, haven't walked up that way for quite a few months...

Is it COPD you suffer with, yes I am lucky I do not suffer with that but, Richard now does although he is managing it well, a lot better than before he was put on his inhaler...his ability uphill he says, is better than it was...but he often walks Toby downhill, through the alleyway,
then  up another slightly steepish road, then over the hills towards the sea, a place my walking would never take me too, on a good day,
I might make the other end of the alley...

Hi everyone. It will be another day like yesterday weather wise getting into the low 90's and mostly cloudy this afternoon with a low chance of rain. I anticipate this will be my normal Sunday with Sunday School and Church this morning, rest this afternoon and then watching the finish of the golf tournament.  There are pros from many countries now qualified to play in the PGA tournaments at the top level.

Carol, I think they have about replaced the entire chair lift now except for the rails and these he wire brushed and cleaned with furniture polish to remove any dust and corrosion.  Hopefully it will now function well for a long time.  I sure don't blame you for wanting to be where you have some flat spaces to walk.  Since North Augusta is built on the bluffs of the Savannah River we do have a lot of inclines around here including some of the Church parking.  As far as I know the downtown, which is close to the river, is up high enough that it avoids any flooding.

Janet, I don't dislike tamales but can't say they are my favorite food.  Glad you found some for Darrel.  Nice of you to attend to Beth's hair for the Church pictures.  Pat wasn't feeling quite as good yesterday but certainly not as much discomfort as the other day.  I did uses the massager on her back a couple of times.  She isn't up yet so doubt that she will feel up to going to Church this morning.  One of the things I remember about the Coor's factory was all the stainless steel and how super clean everything was. It is a very impressive factory.  It seems like it has been a short summer for Abby but guess schools are getting ready to start everywhere.

Jeanne, I am sure no one is critical of you because the walking from the front door to the car is difficult for you.

Ruth Ann, salsa really makes things taste good.  We use a lot of it along with enchilada sauce but I like the medium.  Pat likes to fix chicken in the crock pot and then puts it in the Kitchenaid mixer and shreds it for use in other dishes.

Jackie, glad you were contacted by your Vicar and that it was a lift for you.  Let the Vicar know that you would welcome visits from the Church ladies.  You may need to take the initiative in inviting some in for tea and to visit.  Did you attend Church this morning after you got yourself ready.  I hope you were up to it today.  We have several people who attend our Church, including a couple of ladies who must now use the rollator to get around.

We went to Hugoton around 4:00 yesterday, and helped Abby with some of her packing.  (She should have started two weeks ago!)  Diane made Reuben sandwiches for supper,
then we all started loading boxes into the trailer.  The hardest thing was bringing a large, very heavy dresser up from their basement.  It was solid wood, and even with the eight drawers removed, was all Jeff, Diane and Abby could manage.  Darrel and I didn't try to help with that, knowing how easily we could injure ourselves. After that was done, we came on home.  They got on the road about 8:30 this morning.  Jeff had said they would leave at 5:30, but none of us expected that to happen!  ;)

Today was the first day for the pictures to be taken for the church directory.  I got Beth's hair looking much better, and had taken her a new blouse yesterday.  After they took hers and John's pictures, they took some of all four of us together, then mine and Darrel's.  I was hoping the older photographer would take ours, as he took more time, many more poses, and didn't rush.  The one we got rushed a lot, so I was rather disappointed in ours.  And they wanted us to order and pay today!  Oh, well, it kept us from spending a lot of money.  We only ordered a triple of some of the ones with us all, and 25 Christmas cards with Darrel and me.  John got carried away and spent over $600.00!  :o  And if I hadn't gently talked him out of some of them, he would have been over $900!

Then we ate lunch at Puffy's Pizza, and now I am ready for a Sunday afternoon nap!

The start of another fresh week and I will be leaving in the next 10 minutes to go see my local Doctor for my early 9.am appointment... she asked I come back to see her a months from my last visits of stop breathing episode and my ear pain, throat and chest tightening...I am happy to say, and to tell her, nothing else strange has occurred since apart from my MS setback which all seems to be back to my normal MS routine...I did omit telling her I have been through some teeth work over the last 5-6 months, ( tooth filling, tooth extraction, 2 hygienist cleans, ) she may need to be aware of that...

Well, say what you like but...no one can say I dont get my monies worth, or my allotted time... :P ...We are only allocated a supposedly 10 minute GP slot, Richard in the waiting room thinks my time had run over to 15 minutes but, I touched on as many medical subjects that I can, well you know how it is, one medical issue runs into another... ;D
At least I have said no to previously suggested pills from my once only meeting with MS Consultant of last year.. ( remember this man doesn't intend on seeing me, re, any further appointments.... and they usually see their MS patients once annually only, ) when he last suggested one of two MS pill - popping medications...even my today GP is with me when I told her I want if possible to avoid taking medications mainly because of the side effects, at least we are both in agreement on this one...Anyway she wrote out a prescription and said this is the safer, less harmless option...which we stopped off in the chemist opposite, for a tube of Ibuprofen Gel for my top of leg discomfort...she said give it a go for a week, rub it on three times a day, maybe it will help, or maybe it wont...

Hi everyone.  A bright and sunny morning here in South Carolina.  We will be into the 90's this afternoon as we were yesterday.  We did get some brief periods of rain but not much yesterday and have a higher potential for more rain today.  The only thing on my schedule today is to pick up an online grocery order at Walmart later this morning.

Yesterday I went to Sunday School and then drove home and picked up Pat for Church.  We then went to Ruby Tuesday's for a delicious Sunday meal.  They are having a $13.99 special that is the salad bar, a choice of three entrees, and a dessert.  One of the entree choices was a petite sirloin steak.  So I had that with a side baked potato, the salad bar and topped it all off with a delicious chocolate dessert with cake and ice cream and caramel and chocolate toppings.

Janet, Abby sounds like a typical teenager in not worrying until the last minute to get things ready.  Will she be staying in the dorms or off campus?  Taking heavy furniture back and forth from college doesn't sound like the best alternative.  Wow, those are expensive pictures.  Does John have a lot of family to share pictures with or were they mainly for him?

Jackie, it sounds like you were satisfied with the outcome of your doctor's appointment.  I hope the gel is helpful to you.

Happy Monday!

Larry, Abby, along with two other girls, has rented a house, which they hope to live in until they finish college.  This means she will be staying in Manhattan over the summers, because they have to pay rent year around.  So she is hoping to find a job that she can work during school, then full time over the summer(s).  Thus the reason for needing furniture.

John was buying photos for his siblings, (he has four) as well as himself.  But like I said, he got carried away!  :-\  He was going to order 8 X 10s for each of them, at $40 each, so I asked him if they wouldn't be just as happy with a smaller size, so he took 5 X 7s instead.  Yikes!

Have you all seen how the media and others are trying to get people to have chips implanted in their children "for safety"?  They are surely paving the way for people to accept the mark of the beast!  I'm often happy that we are the age we are, as the future seems to hold much that I don't want to live through.  But there are always the younger ones to be concerned about--no danger of our prayer lists getting shorter!

I texted the young man who said he wanted painting lessons, and now he says he is so busy it's not possible to do.  I learned a long time ago that there are some things you will never HAVE time for, you can only TAKE time to do them!  Sigh......

Pat, if you peek in, please let us know how you are doing!  I love you so much, and want to stay in touch!

It was raining when time to go to the gym, so Darrel used that as an excuse not to go.  We need to be more faithful about going!

I think this is a perfect day to go into my studio and paint!   :)

Larry, your dessert yesterday sounds scrumtious!   ^-^

We woke to a wonderful rain this morning.  I love listening to the drumming of rain on our metal roof,
which I only hear while in my little prayer room.  Darrel checked the gauge a while ago and we have an inch and a half!!  :D  It got into the 90s on Saturday, but has otherwise been delightfully cool, not our usual August weather, for sure!  I'm sure we can expect more hot weather, but I choose to thoroughly enjoy this while it lasts, and be grateful.

Jackie, I didn't know they made Ibuprofen in a cream.  Hope it helps!

Good morning I have read all your posts but will not comment on them other to say that I read them.  I am sitting here trying to type with a large cat in my lap purring away and Freckles laying on the floor at my side.

We had an event yesterday at the Cascade Farms store with our dogs, (Furry Friends), It was to benefit the local shelter. I had to leave church just as communion was beginning to be served so I could get  Freckles ready to go.

Everything is going well with our dog-sitting.  I slept in until 8 AM and am sure that I haven't slept in this late even as a baby.   ;)  It is foggy and some rain all this week.  Loki is 14 years young.  He is keeping an eye on the door all the time - waiting for Phil to come home and he does come over for a little attention from us.

Ruth Ann:  It is just wonderful that the sermons are recorded and can be even watched as well over the internet.  Wish my bible study would have that feature as well - I have asked twice for that treat but they don't plan on it right now.

Jackie:  Nice that you will be having the vicar over.  Perhaps there is some little job you could volunteer to do in your home?  Stuffing envelopes,  editing papers of any sort?  Just a thought.  Another idea - could you telephone members who are shut-ins?  Just to check on their welfare for the church? Then, you could report results back to the church office either by phone or email.
