He who began will not quit

"And I am sure that God, who began a good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on that day when Christ Jesus comes back again."
Philippians 1:6 NLT

Let this encourage God's holy people to endure persecution patiently and remain firm to the end, obeying his commands and trusting in Jesus.
Revelation 14:12 NLT

God's promise to continue working in our lives requires perseverance on our part.

Whether you are an athlete undergoing grueling physical conditioning, an employee struggling under a mountain of work, or a Christian suffering persecution, the key to perseverance is a clear vision of the goal.

While the goal of an athlete is to win the race and goal of the employee is a job well done, the goal of the believer is nothing less than eternity in the presence of the Lord.

The writer of Revelation encourages Christians to keep their eyes on Jesus, who will reward the faithful, and to obey his Word to the end. When you feel like giving up, remember the glory that awaits you as a child of God.

He who began a good work in you
He who began a good work in you
Will be faithful to complete it
He'll be faithful to complete it
He who started the work
Will be faithful to complete it in you

If the struggle you're facing
Is slowly replacing
Your hope with despair
Or the process is long
And you're losing your song
In the night you can be sure
That the Lord has His hand on you
Safe and secure
He will never abandon you
You are His treasure
And He finds His pleasure in you

Judy, that's a message that gives comfort and encouragement - a reminder that God is always working with us and for us.  Thanks!

We had quite a lightning and thunder episode, including one instance where it sounded like it was in our backyard and there was a loud pop.  We lost power momenarily but we had not a drop of rain from probably 30 minutes of noise.  This is three nights in a row when this has happened.

We enjoyed a nice morning with our daughter at her church.  As I mentioned yesterday they have done an extensive remodeling job to make their church handicapped accessible.  Before a wheelchair couldn't get to the Sunday School rooms or the rest rooms as you had to get up a series of 5 or 7 fairly steep steps.  They fixed the side entrance where there is now a gradual ramp behind the pulpit platform and it comes out at the leve of the pulpit platform and the rest of the church.  They also fixed the ramp into the santaury so it is gradual enough not to have a powerchair get caught.  Our daughter played the hand chimes as a part of the the Anthem yesterday and had no trouble getting into the choir area.  This is a relatively small church but has been very accepting of her and others.  It takes her well over an hour on the buses and subway train to get to the church.

After the service she was able to go in her powerchair several blocks and meet us at a Jersey Mikes where we had lunch.  It was a very nice day.

Just have my normal Monday activities on tap for today.

Carol, those sore muscles show us that we aren't as young as we used to be.  Hope you are feeling better today.  Sorry to hear of the pending passing of your quilting friend.  It seems life is so fragile.  Speaking of quilting, somewhere Pat recently got what looked like a prescription bottle with a little pin cushion on top.  It is called Vitamin Q, the ultimate therapy for quilters "a true wonder drug".  Take as needed for:
Increased stamina for fabric shopping all day, quilting all night.
Improves vision (take until dirty dishes and dust bunnies can not be seen).  Soothes sore fingers. Promotes good humor.  It was prescribed by Dr. Fat Quarter  Refill:  Often.  Warning--keep out of reach of non-quilters.

Etta Sue, a long time without power.  Glad you were able to get your car out.  I have had to disengage our garage door opener on several occasions and it makes one realize how dependent we have become of the powered openers.  I still can remember having to get out the car in the rain and opening the garage before we had openers.

Ruth Ann, is your son moving back permanently from the UK?

Judy, thanks for the wonderful devotional thought for this week.  Jesus is always there for us if we will seek him.

I just heard from my insurance adjuster that the check is being mailed out today so am able to go ahead and get the roofing contractor busy.  Hopefully they will be able to re-roof the house in the next 2 or 3 days.  They wanted to do it last Friday and Saturday but I wanted to wait to hear from the insurance company.  We will try to be away from the house as much as possible while they are on the roof.

After re-setting all my electrical clocks yesterday, we got a thunder boomer with lightning and wind.  The lights went out again for a minute or two.  So I reset the clocks once again.  And just now remembered I forgot the clock on my CD/cassette/radio player needs reset!

A bright and sunny day in Indiana.

Kitty and her husband left Myrtle Beach yesterday morning and spent the night at Lexington last night.  They are to be home by noon today so she wants to go to Photo Guild tonight.  As soon as I get caught up online, I want to mow the yard.  Then shower and I will be ready to go to her house by 5pm.

And we got word at church that one of our older church members passed away Saturday evening.  The service will be at the church and the ladies will have a dinner at the church for the family.  So tomorrow after giving some blood for a fasting blood work, finding a bite to eat and maintenance in the pool, I will go to the groceries for items to make a salad for the dinner.

Then Wednesday will be the funeral.

Another busy week.  Also Marge, Betty, Ivalou and I want to see the movie 'The Help'.  It comes out the 10th so hopefully Marge can work it in her schedule since she is still working...and the oldest!!

JudyB:  Thanks for selecting
QuoteAnd I am sure that God, who began a good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on that day when Christ Jesus comes back again."
It is always good to hear the Good News over and over in our lives.

Etta Sue: Does anyone remember the heavy as lead double garage doors without their spring openers?  And, trying to open them when the bottoms have frozen to the ground?

Larry:  It is wonderful that a small church would put up a ramp.  They must know how long it takes Stacey to even get to church - blessings for her!  Like the note about the quilter's jar!

Sweet corn tonight from a local farm - a little bit of lamb from Wyoming & greens.

Etta Sue:  Do you know your picture of kitties are always moving & twitching?  I think they are saying meow too - the dark one never opens his/her eyes but says meow.  Just FYI  :D

Hi, friends,

First, has anyone heard if their unemployed loved ones has found a job? I'm still supporting them.

A BIG bit of good news from me...the people at physical therapy asked me to wear shorts today so they could watch how my left leg is doing. So, I went to the drawer and pulled out the only 2 pairs of shorts I've ever owned. They were bought to take to rehab after my right knee replacement surgery with instructions from the rehab center to bring 2 pairs for the same reason. They've been in the back of a drawer for the last 3 years. When I got them, they were very tight. Now, it won't be long until I'll need to use those drawstrings to tighten the waist! How proud it makes me feel to know that I can now see the results of the 67 lb weight loss in the last 3 years.

Pat, I surely wish I could be one of those to meet you and Paul for coffee. Please let me know if you come within 3-4 hours of Nashville sometime, and I'll try my best to work it out.

Marilyn, that was such a cute photo of your dog - such a peaceful, relaxed pose. :)

Must go - have laundry to do tonight.

Much love to all.
Ruth Ann

I had an interesting day today.  I am in the middle of doing a lot of alterations for a dear friend.  Spent the day with scisors and a seam ripper taking out seams.  In the middle of this Kass had a friend over with the movie Soul Surfer.  What a wonderful movie that is.  I will watch it again.  It is about the young lady who lost an arm to a shark bite and went on to become a champion surfer.  If you can rent this one it is well worth the time to watch.

I went to Photo Guild last evening.  Kitty called me at 4:05 and asked me if I got the message that they were having lessons after all.  I said no, I haven't read my emails.  So her and Cherie went on and gave my order at the restaurant.  I came along about 15 minutes later.  Great pictures to see at Photo Guild.  I didn't enter any last night.

Early today.  I have a fasting blood draw at 8am so I need to leave in about 5 minutes.

Yesterday our youth pastor and wife had another baby girl, Emmalynn.  Little Ellie welcomed her little sister at 8:28am.  Little Ellie isn't much interested in Baby Emma since Ellie is only 10 months old.  We told Krista we were sending Brad away for 3 months and she said, No!  Send me!  She sure has her hands full!  And she had a home birth with a mid-wife.

I plan to go to the doctor's office, find a bite to eat, go to the pool and then get groceries to fix a salad for tomorrow's funeral dinner.

Tonight is visitation.

Another busy day.

Another cool but sticky day.  Supposed to be scattered showers starting late this afternoon but it's already getting quite dark.  And I have errands that must be done today!  Oh well, if I get caught in some rain, no worry.  I'm sure not sweet enough to melt, and if I were going to shrink it would have happened long ago.

Another evening with a lot of thunder and lightning but not a drop of rain again in our area.  This makes, if I recall correctly, four evenings in a row.  I was gone for awhile during the evening but when I got home Pat said we had experienced a power outage for over an hour.  Now it if will just continue to hold off on the rain until Saturday late and then rain I should be in good shape with the new roof.  They will be installing it on Friday and finishing up on Saturday.

I had a nice day yesterday with a good lunch at an Italian place that has very good food and very reasonable prices.  The schedule is light today.  I do have an activity to attend this morning and that is all.  Yesterday afternoon I set up my Yahama Electic Piano keyboard in my office.  It is rather crowded but I am the only one using this room so it is fine.  I had had it put away for a couple of years and not played it which is a shame as it is a beautiful instrument.  I can use headphones with it so I only hear it.  My playing has gotten rusty through lack of practice.  I use headphones with it so I only hear it.  My playing has gotten rusty through lack of practice.  It has many other instrument voices also available which are fun to experiment with.

Etta Sue, we had over an hour of power outage last night with no storm in the area in terms of rain or wind.  So we also had to reset clocks and restart computers.

Carol, I remember those heavy doors made of wood.  We had a garage when I was growing up but it didn't have a door.  We lived in the country and didn't need one.  My dad had a big gasoline tank up on a frame between the garage and the road for his tractor and as far as I know no one ever stole any of the gas.  There was no lock on it as that wasn't needed at the time I was growing up.

Ruth Ann, wonderful news on your weight loss and I bet not having those extra pounds have helped your legs as well.

Judy, that does sound like a good movie.

Jeanne, at least this time of the year if we get a little damp we don't usually chill since it is warm.

Thanks Ruth Ann for the nice compliment on Happy's photo, he is a laid back dog unless he is begging for food at the table. Then he barks a lot.

I just wanted to stop by and say hello before I get started on all the  things I need to accomplish with my  graphics and html lessons.

Seems my email notification thingy got messed up again, so I wasn't around yesterday.  I worked a long day after a short night, so was very tired last night.  But last night I did get a full night's sleep.  I am always SO thankful when that happens!

My Kerri will soon be out of the very stressful and hurtful situation.  I am praying the awful stress doesn't cause her physical problems.

I think I will be keeping my two great-granddaughters tomorrow, so hope I sleep tonight!  They are really sweet children, but so full of energy!!  Whew!  But they do behave much better when their mom isn't around.  I have seen that a lot through the years with kids.

I got word that my new glasses were shipped from zennioptical.com so should get them this week!

Larry, it is great that Stacey's church has made it easier for handicapped people to come and worship.  Good for them!

When I walked, at seven this morning, it was delightfully cool!  But it got up to 98 by 2:00.

I am rambling, will get off here and go make a copy of some music for our former music teacher.  She now can see from only one eye, and not long ago, fell and broke a hip.  She wanted a copy of the song Cinco Robles for a friend's 90th birthday and 75th anniversary, and I found it in one of Darrel's Fake Books.  She will be so happy!  I looked online first, found lots of places to get the lyrics but not the music, and she wants both.

Later!   :)

Y'all have a great day (when you awaken!).

Love y'all,

Ruth Ann, I have been up since 5 AM....But the upside is I listened to a couple of REALLY good teaching programs, and Blue Bell (puppy) and  I had some good bonding time.  As long as Darrel isn't in sight, she thinks I'm just all right!   ;)

I went out to walk when I got up, but it was too dark (I stumbled over a little tree, then nearly hung myself on neighbor's clothesline) and it is really windy today, too.  So I didn't go very far, decided to come back to the house.  :-\

My you each be blessed today as you walk with our dear Lord.

I am off today to work at church for the family dinner after a funeral.  Always great fellowship with some great ladies.  Yesterday I was ready to back out...my body ached all over.  What a blessing a great night's rest is.  Today I am raring to go!

And today's high is to be 82 degrees!  Whoo-eee!  All our records have stopped.  Our 90 degree and above string of days are over.  Even the 85 degree and above is over!  Yay!

I am  just back from the Farmers Market, I  bought 3 big cucumbers (already made marinated Cucumbers out of them), two big  bunches of Broccoli, a package of Spinach and a some nice tomatoes.  I also went across the street from here to check on the ripeness of the Blackberries, as soon at they are  pickable I am going to make Blackberry Jelly.

Not much else going on yet, I am going to work on my html lesson, this is the last one fo the forms group of lessons, then the final for this class. I will register for another class afterward.

have a great day everyone.

Janet:  Please wait until there is some light before you take another early AM walk.  We humans cannot see in the dark.

Quilting group was last night and the gals needed to talk about the member who is suffering from cancer.

Ruth Ann:  Praying here daily for those out of work - our SIL has not been paid in almost two months (he works for overseas people) & has been trying so hard for interviews.  Do you have a relative or close friend out of work?  Blessings for all of them.  Congrats on the terrific weight loss.

On a bright side, our granddaughter is coming for a visit for a few days.  She wants to do a little work for us and we will take her to a few special places and see if she wants to sew anything.

This afternoon is monthly needle arts group.

Hi, friends,

No, I don't have a relative out of work now, but have certainly worried and prayed for several of my friends.

I'll be off to the Longevity Center here at the apartments soon - need to begin doing those water and other exercises as prescribed by the physical therapy folks.

Y'all have a great day with the Lord,

Hi everyone. Another day without rain but it was hot and muggy yesterday and more of the same today. Just hadBible study and choir tonight on the schedule. I am making a list of things to do on Friday while the roofers are here so I can be away from the house as much as possible. Pat is making similar plans. We will probably end of spending the afternoon at the library.

Hi everyone on this Thursday morning in Atlanta.  I was surprised to come here and see I was the last to post here yesterday so will be brief again today.  My main activity today is to see the dentist to have a filling in my front tooth replaced.  I noticed a few days ago that it was missing so want to get it replaced before any damage is done.  Then I have the rest of the day to myself.  The shingles for the new roof should be delivered here today.

We had a good choir practice last night with almost everyone present.  Our choir director and her assistant are attending a choir music two-day workshop which features three different composers of Christian choir music.  They came back last year with some very beautiful pieces so looking forward to what they find this year.  Apparently these choir professionals spend two days singing through many different pieces of music and they love the experience.

Microsoft downloaded new updates to Windows last evening that seem to have wiped out a great deal of my profile and setup.  If this has happened to others they are going to have a storm on their hands.

Soon be time for coffee to get this exciting day started.  After all it is the day the Lord has made so I will rejoice and be glad in it.

My laptop updated last night by Microsoft also.  But I haven't noticed any problems....yet.

The church lunch for about 85 people went very well.  Country cooking.  Chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, roasted brisket, lasagne, all kinds of salads, fresh tomatoes, homemade bread, and plenty of desserts...coffee, iced tea and lemonade.  We use our china and silverware for these events so there is plenty of dish washing afterwards!  Our new kitchen in the new building will have two industrial dishwashers.  That will be very nice.

I was really tired when I took Sylvia back home but stopped at the bank and Dollar General in Pendleton.  Then I saw the Ice Shack.  Shaved ice with flavors.  I got a small one with coconut and pineapple flavors.  I then pulled my car under a shade tree and cooled off eating my Icee.

Today is my class lunch...back at Pendleton.  I need to get hot dog buns for FROGGS Saturday and then home.  Nothing the rest of the day or tomorrow!!  Just need to make my Candy Crackers for a snack for Saturday!

So sad to get the notifications that two of my friends on Seniors and Friends have passed away.  I met them in Calgary.

What's going on with everybody today?  Only two posts all day!!

I certainly hope your days were better than ours was!  Darrel got up to go to the bathroom at 3:30 this morning and stepped in water! Squish, splash!!  Ugh.  Seems a relay in the well stuck on open, the pressure built up and backed up the lines and blew the tube behind the refrigerator.  Hard to imagine how much water can blow through a quarter inch tube!  So we have been doing back breaking work all day long, since 3:30 AM.  The entire house was flooded, including the garage and Darrel's  closet, along with linen closet and winter clothes closets.  Sigh.........  Thank God for four very hard-working people from the cleaning company who came right away with all their vacuums, fans, and other equipment and worked hard all day, too.  They ended up cutting the carpet in pieces and throwing it all out in the yard, then scooping up the remains of the padding.  What a mess.  We had to unload all the furniture, move what we could, etc.  Bookcases, china cabinets, curio cabinets, entertainment center, bed.........whew.  I am exhausted.  And we are at the Corporate East Hotel in Ulysses for tonight and tomorrow night, plus more if things are not dried out.  Mold and mildew grow really fast in the heat, and the sheet rock already tests wet up about 18 inches from the floor.  So they are going to remove all our baseboards, too.

I am trying to look at the bright side--everything will get cleaned and sorted, lots of stuff we will get rid of, and while the carpets are out I want to get the cracks in the ceiling fixed and also do some painting.  Have been putting it off and dreading it because it makes such a terrible mess when you do dry wall work.  I am surely NOT looking forward to what these next few weeks will hold, but will be nice when it's all done.

And now I am saying goodnight and heading for a hot shower and a clean bed.  Have to be up and out early tomorrow!  I'm supposed to be at my painting friend's house before 8 in a neighboring town.  We are going to our seminar in Newton, and since there's not much I can do at home, I guess I will go ahead and go, even though at this minute, the only thing that sounds good is rest, getting rid of aches and pains and SLEEP.

Whew, Janet!  Nice that you can look on the bright side.  Sorry about the mess for you two and all of that hard work.  And, it is so hot - so very hot.

Granddaughter is visiting and she wanted to do some work so I had her cleaning my cabinets and furniture - a polish cleaner.  Nice work.  We took her to a state park and watched some miniature airplanes being flown and the people there gave us coupons for free Lamar's doughnuts.  We each had a chocolate and my dessert for two nights in a row has been chocolate brownies so that should be enough for our cravings.

Must watch the debate from Iowa tonight.  Have never been so involved in researching backgrounds as this year.

Etta Sue:  Sorry about the loss of your two friends from Senior Net.

Hi everyone.  A very nice morning but suppose to get up to 94 degrees this afternoon.  The shingles for our new roof were delivered at 7 am this morning and shortly after the roofing company rep and another truck arrived.  The truck will be used to haul away the old shinges.  By the time I got back from coffee the actual roofers are here and starting to remove the old shingles and tar paper.  So the project is underway.  There must be 6 or more men working.

I will try to stay away as much as possible today.  So far the noise isn't bad as there is no hammering, just some walking around on the roof.  I have a list of errands to run this morning and then my ROMEO's luncheon at Applebys at 11:30.  I will then probably spend several hours at the library this afternoon while the pounding is going on.

Etta Sue, glad you didn't have any problem.  When I came to my computer this morning it had been restarted during the night.  Your church lunch sounds like it was very nice and a very good meal.

Janet, how terrible to have that water leak.  Glad he discovered it when he did rather than later in the morning.  Having to get up during the night does occasionally have a good purpose.  You all sure didn't need this new hassle to deal with.  Sometime ago I put the steel reinforced tubing and hoses on the refrigerator and the washer.  When you get it all repaired and everything back in place it will be like a new house.

Carol, I have never had a Lamar donut.  One of the men this morning at our Friday coffee brought two big plates of chocolate brownies and they were delicious.  We each had one.  I missed watching debates last evening but sure there will be many more opportunities.

Aw, Janet!  Water damage is so tough!  Glad you are looking on the brighter side!  Especially if you don't have to do the work!

And a new roof for Larry!  Bet that noise will be loud once they start roofing.  Maybe nail guns aren't as loud at hammering.

How about sending your granddaughter here if she wants to do some more work.  And bring some Lamar donuts, too.

Our class lunch was yesterday.  We had fourteen show up.  That was really good since the gal that sends out the reminder email didn't do it until a couple hours before noon!

I then went to the grocery to buy hot dog buns for tomorrow.  And of course, came out with more than just the buns.

Today I am making the Candy Crackers for my snack to share tomorrow for FROGGS.  I can't remember how many it makes but if it doesn't look like many, I will make a second batch.  Only have one jelly roll pan!

Not much else happening today.  It is bright and sunny with not a cloud in the sky.  And my WeatherFX says it is only 66 degrees!  That can't be.  My indoor/outdoor thermometer says 80 degrees.  I just stepped outside and I think the last thermometer is right!  And not a leaf is moving!

My Surprise Lilies are up!  More this year than ever!  Bet there is close to 75 in one area!  Not in bloom yet...maybe tomorrow!

Janet, how horrible!  I've had a leak a couple of times in my bathroom that flooded the floor, and I know what even that little bit involved, so I can only imagine what you're going through.

I'm so sorry about the leak, too! Water is essential, but it can cause terrible problems when it's not in the right place.   :o

Am still trying to get over this pinched nerve in my back, so certainly understand why some people can't get to their computers if they have a good bit of pain.

Ah, well, tomorrow's another day, and I'll be at the Y taking the exercises the physical therapist has devised.

Y'all have a great rest of the day.

Love to everyone,

Hi everyone.

Another Saturday morning.  The good news is that the roofers are back on the roof and should finish the roofing job by the end of the day.  The bad news is that the roofers are on the roof and it is only 7 am.  I am up and about but my wife was still sleeping.  However it is just for one day and there are some showers in the forecast by late afternoon so no complaints.  They pretty well got the front part of the roof done yesterday and worked until after 8 pm.  These are really hard working men and the heat has been bad here.

I had a very busy day yesterday running quite a few errands all morning and attending my ROMEO's lunch.  I had planned to spend the afternoon at the library to avoid the noise on the roof but was simply too tired to do so and came home and rested for a couple of hours, even got in a brief nap.  I then went to be early last night.  Feel better this morning but still a bit tired.  Other than going to coffee this morning don't think I will be doing anything else today so can rest up for tomorrow.

Janet, hope the cleanup/dryout is going well.

Ruth Ann, any back pain is debilitating so we certainly understand not wanting to sit at a computer when your back hurts.

Etta Sue, the roofers haven't been too noisy.  We have been surprised.  They are currently removing the old shingles from the back side of the house.

Janet sorry about all the water damage, I think that might be very expensive to  repair and replace what has been damaged.

Not much going no hear, I just want to make sure I posted a big HELLO to everyone

Hi, to everyone from bright cheery Nashville. The humidity has been really low, which made for very comfy days outside this week. Today, of course, it's predicted for 60% rain - NATURALLY, that's because 2 very large county fairs are going on and Saturday's a good day to go to the fair.

Go figure...

Much love to all,
Ruth Ann

Wow!  Not a cloud in the sky here.  And today is FROGGS (Friends and Relatives of Grandma and Grandpa Stevenson.  Stevenson is my maiden name) back in the woods!  Now there is 50/50 chance of rain this afternoon according to the weather guessers!  And 60 percent chance of rain after midnight!  So I am praying that it all holds off until after dark.  We head home before dark...it certainly gets dark back there.  The woods is in the middle of a mile square so no dusk to dawn lights are seen anywhere close!  It's also a half-mile from the road on my driveway!  If you click on my name, it will take you to a map of where I live.  Go down on the map (south) from my house and you can see the woods!  FROGGS there this afternoon!

Ivalou's daughter, Teresa and her family are here already from Ohio.  Ivalou's daughter, Jo and her family should be here anytime from Ohio.  Everyone else that are coming live locally and should be arriving around 5pm.  Tony said he would come around 3pm and make sure the bonfire is lit so we have nice red coals to roast our hot dogs and brats over.

Can't wait to see everyone!  Love this day!

Since there really was nothing further I could do at home until things dry out some, I went ahead and attended my painting seminar at Newton.  We painting gals had a wonderful time visiting, painting, garage sale hopping and, of course, eating!  My friends were all worried about me; said I looked utterly exhausted---I assured them that's because I WAS!  And on Friday, every move I made was painful!  I haven't been that sore in a long time.  But yesterday was better.  Darrel said the same.  The big fans and dehumidifiers are still going out at the house; we are still at Corporate East.  Seems we may be here for two more nights, at least until the noise abates at the house.  Then we will probably stay in our fifth wheel trailer until some semblance of order can be attained again in our household.

I am up early to see how all of you are faring, wish I had some coffee!  There is one of those fancy new coffee makers in this room; the kind that uses the little plastic containers of coffee, but I made some Friday and didn't like the coffee.  So  I will wait until the breakfast room opens at 6 AM.

Larry, the roofing crew sounds very efficient, and likely they are using air powered staple guns to attach the shingles, and those aren't noisy.  I have done some of that kind of work in the past, too, and it is also hard work!  Especially in the heat of summer!  Hope the job is finished soon.

They had a really violent rainstorm the other evening up where I was.  We couldn't even see the road in front of us!  And when we got to our motel, the power had been off, and an elderly lady was stuck in the elevator, by herself, in the dark.  They called police and firemen, none of whom seemed to know how to use the special key to open the door.  (The elevator was on the ground floor, and her husband and the other men were talking to her through the door.)  Finally, a man who was a guest there, local people attending a child's birthday party, said to his wife, "Why don't you go over there and show them how to open that door?"  And she did!  As she walked away, she said to the assembled crowd, "It takes a woman to show men how to do anything!"  I think she was quite pleased with herself.  ;)  And the lady who had been trapped was really shaken up when she emerged, poor lady.  :(  Thankfully, we were only on the second floor and were able to use the stairs to go to our rooms.

We will go out to the house this morning so I can get clothes for church.  Taking it easy today, but tomorrow, it is back to the War on Water!  I love water, but not, as someone here said, where it isn't supposed to be!  And thank God for insurance!!!  The insurance agent called me on Friday and was commiserating with me about how hard we had been working, and I said, "Yes, that was the longest and hardest day's work I have done in a long time.  But on the bright side, now I know I still CAN work like that if I need to!"  :)

See you later!

FROGGS was a great success.  The weather could not have cooperated more.  We did need a little wind.  It was hot but cooler in the woods than out in the sun.  I counted 40 people.  That included three cousins and one guest.  The old kids sat around and talked.  The big kids played Corn Hole and the little kids ran around and got dirty!  And they were dirty!!

We kept watching the radar on our cell phones.  Finally I said that a storm front is headed our way and should be here in a half hour.  So we got everything put away and in our cars.  The wind was gusting as we left the woods.  I was headed to the house at 8:41pm.

At 8:45 a gust of wind hit the Indiana State Fair and a stage collapsed at The Grandstand.  Last I heard was 4 were killed and 24 taken to the hospital.  Nothing else was touched at the fair...no tents or anything else...just that stage.  And all witnesses said that the only warning they had was someone had announced that a storm was coming but the show would go on.  Then the gust of wind took the stage down!  There are videos of it.  Terrible but the fans pitched in to help raise the scaffolding and get people out.  Within 15 minutes there were 12 ambulances there.

It really didn't rain much.  Lots of wind for about 20 seconds!!

I am all ready for church.  I doubt if Ivalou goes this morning since there are 14 people at her house overnight and now!!

Hi everhone.  Interesting day yesterday with the roofers.  They were here early and didn't leave last night until well after dark, around 9:30 pm.  I guess they were pushing to get finished but ran out of shingles.  They are to come back this morning and finish the cleanup and then in the morning to finish the shingling.  I guess this was a bigger job than the contractor had expected.  We had a rain shower yesterday afternoon and then again after the left last night. However, the roofer who told me they would be back this morning and again in the morning assured me several times that the rain wouldn't cause a problem as the area unshingled was well covered.  I didn't worry about the rain as there was nothing I could do about the situation.  I will be glad when this job is done.  The noise hasn't been as bad as I expected.

We will be attending church today and then out-to-lunch.  There is an 80th birthday celebration for one of the ladies we know at our church that will be held at the church this afternoon.  We may attend that celebration and that will be it for the day.

Hi Marilyn.  Glad you posted.

Ruth Ann, did you hear what happened at the Indiana State Fair with the stage collapsing?  It sounds like it was a tragedy with loss of life.

Etta Sue, pretty graphic.  Hope your FROGGS  event was a big success and the rain held off.  Do you have a lot of trees back there to provide shade? While I was writing this posting I see you posted about the successful event last night and the tragedy at the State Fair.

RuthV, what in the world is Geezer Camp?  It sounds interesting.

Janet, are you saying you helped put down shingles?  You are right about the nail gun and you can tell when they are using a hammer.  Glad you were able to attend your painting class and get a bit rested up.  Glad you all didn't get caught in the elevator.  I would think learning how to open the elevator door in the event of a power outage would be something the motel manager would be taught.

Larry, it might be part of their training; however, the young man on duty was new on the job, that being only his third day there!  And they said it was "rules" that the fire dept. be called.  Sounds silly to me.

We have been out to the house, and it doesn't look as chaotic as I expected, so I feel calmer.  I haven't been worrying, just thinking about all the work involved to get the place back into shape.  I am hoping grandson Mark is finished helping his Dad and will be free for a few days to help us.  He is very good with sheet rock work and also tile work, both of which we need.  And we will need to repaint the entire house, and I am not sure I am equal to that task anymore.  Yes, I could do it, but what would working overhead do to my neck and back?  So might hire someone for that job, too.  Now is the time to get it done, while there is no carpet in the house.

Again, for the better news:  The Chinese silk carpet appears to be not too much worse for it's soaking.  That makes me feel better!

Hi, Marilyn!  Yes, we did tons of the work, but did have help once business hours arrived and we could contact a company that deals with this sort of thing.

Darrel said they told him yesterday that they have two more flood jobs to do, in two different neighboring towns.  I don't think I will apply for a job with them!  ;)  And I called my boss and told her she shouldn't expect me to work tomorrow.

Time to go see Beth, then go to church.  I  don't think we will be taking her today unless she feels really strongly that she wants to go, then I will drive out and get the van......

I came back to say that once we move home from here, I will not have internet until things get sorted out, as everything has been unplugged and moved, and neither of us knows how to reconnect it.  So I will be taking the laptop to the library to check in, as they have  WIFI.

Etta Sue:  We saw the pictures of the tragic collapse at the Indiana state fair - how awful and so many injuries as well.

We took our two middle children out for lunch today to celebrate their July & August birthdays and had such a nice visit.  They came alone.  I called an old friend in Minnesota - she is 80 years young & was at her lake cabin when I called.  Lots of visiting today - isn't that what we used to do on Sundays?  We sure never shopped on Sunday nor did any work = for sure never mowed the lawn on a Sunday.  We had picnics and so many times the single pastor over for lunch and then played Monopoly with cousins in the evening.  Simple and fun - like our day today.

Janet:  What a mess for you - it is best you stay away until they get all the moisture out of there.  I hope you don't end up painting as well.  Tell your boss you need a year off  :D

We thought we would be driving our grandson to Minnesota for school but now his dad wants to be with him so I am almost positive we will be able to meet with Pat and Paul.

RuthV:  Hi - Geezer camp sounds like fun.  No little Whippersnappers allowed?

Hi everyone.  We have the most beautiful morning with the hint of fall in the air.  There is low humidity and it was cooler this morning than normal.  The housekeepers are here and later expect the lawn people.  The roofer contractor called and is bringing another bundle of shingles this morning and will go back on the roof and examine it carefully.  I told him I saw a place around the chimney that doesn't appear right so he can see it and let the roofers know when they come this morning or afternoon to finish the small area that is left.  They did a nice job of cleaning up yesterday and the contractor came back and took the truck away that had been sitting in our yard for a couple of days where they put the old shingles.  The contractor will come back tomorrow for the final inspection and for the check to finish paying the bill.  Today is also my Monday men's luncheon.  We are going to an Asian buffet  that I have been to a couple of times before.  Then this evening I have a meeting to attend and Pat is going to her quilting guild.

Carol, glad you are likely to see Pat and Paul.  They are delightful people.  The culture has certainly changed in regard to Sundays and not for the better.  It is just another business day for a lot of places and people.

Janet, glad the mess doesn't appear as bad as at first glance.  Glad your special rug wasn't ruined.  The wiring on computers is really rather simple and the plugs are of different sizes.  I bet Darrel or you either one could do it if you just take one cord at a time.  A lot of things use the USB plugs which are really simple.  The positive side of all of this turmoil is you will have a freshly decorated house when you get moved back in and have things back in place.

It was a cool morning here this morning.  I took the trash to Kaye Don's and went in to visit with them.  He put a deck on the front of his house this year so we sat out on it.  Ivalou came home from rehab and walked over.  So we all had a nice visit.  Very comfortable sitting in the sunshine.

Now that my coffee is gone, I need to get out there and mow the grass before it heats up.  It is cloudy and then sunny so should be a nice day to ride around in circles while mowing!

Our g-nephew is getting married Sept 3rd in Michigan so I called this morning to reserve a room for Ivalou and I for the 2nd and 3rd.  It will be a nice get-away.  And they have in indoor pool and internet!  I am a happy camper!

Not much else for news today.

Well, tonight will be our last night at the hotel.  The cleanup people came today and took all their fans and dehumidifiers away; the adjuster came and did a thorough job measuring and checking everything.  She says the kitchen cabinets need to be completely replaced, as they are damaged and seldom can you get parts that will match.  Lots of the furniture is damaged, too, so they offer partial replacement or offer you buy-back on that.  So much work ahead............ :P

We will probably go somewhere to look at carpet tomorrow, there is no carpet dealer in this town any more.  The next big job on the agenda is to scrape the remains of the carpet pad loose from the floors and sweep up real good.  I don't want to be walking in that mess for however long we will be living on bare concrete.  I am glad we painted all the concrete floors before any carpet was laid originally.  Makes it much lest dusty when you have to sweep.

Larry, thanks for the encouragement re the computer network.  I hope we can sort it out, as I really miss being connected, and it is vital when production starts on my book.

We came out to the motel to rest a bit before we go tackle the job again.  See you later!

Whew, Janet.  And, it is so hot outdoors.  Wishing you cooler weather as you go through this cleaning!

Don drove off to the mountains & is happy with the weather already. He saw a six-point buck walk out of the driveway.  Too fast for a camera shot.  I have follow-up medical appt. tomorrow & it will be so hot that I just plan on going to the basement in the afternoon.

Marilyn:  Usually, the doctor's office has extra samples to help and it sure does come in handy at times.

Off to listen to an audio book - I watched an old cowboy movie while eating dinner - alone.  Fresh cantaloupe and it was so good.

Y'all have a good rest of the day.

Another cool night for sleeping.  Love it.

I have already been to Noblesville for water rehab.  Was in the water for over an hour...mostly talking to another lady!

Then I went to a new Mexican restaurant for lunch.  Very good and prices the same as most Mexican restaurants.  I will be going back...it's only a few blocks away from rehab.

Now this afternoon is Euchre.  I am driving and taking 3 others with me.  With all the construction where we are going, we have to go the long way around.  They are replacing a bridge over I-69 so we can't use that bridge.  Glad Sue let me know how to get to her house!

I counted my Surprise Lillies the other day.  172 of them.  A few blew down after the high winds Saturday but there are still about 165 standing.  I took a mobile photo this morning.  It is on my Facebook.

The mail lady just stopped.  Better go get the mail.

Hi everyone.  The roof is done and the contractor has been here  to do the final inspection, to leave the paperwork and pick up his final payment on the job.  It looks very nice and we are glad to have it done.  The rest of the day is free.

Janet, what does the buy-back on your furniture mean?  I am not familiar with that term.

Carol, you not have central air as you mention going to the basement when it get so hot?

Ruth Ann, hope you don't work too hard today on the spreadsheet.

Marilyn, glad your doctors office was able to help you until you get your meds.

Etta Sue, the trip to attend the wedding sounds nice and will give you a nice little break in the routine.

I sure messed up an appointment today for ultrasound return - the new site for me is on Dry Creek Circle and I was way east of it on Dry Creek street- about 15 minutes and could not make it so I stopped at a Walgreen's and called to apologize.  They rescheduled me.  Feeling my age today  :'(

So, now into grubby clothes and cleaning bit by bit.  Looking forward to a lunch with the fresh tomatoes on a sandwich.  SIL is in the very last part of interviewing with a job that should be as good as the one he lost 20 months ago - we are all on edge.  For about 7 months, he has had a really strange job & pay is very late & he will be happy to see that one go away.

Larry:   We do have air in this house after living in several homes here without air - but it is still much cooler downstairs.  We can open at night & have an attic fan pull in the outside air & have done so except for two exceptionally warm nights.  Glad that your day is free.

Grateful for the angel who helped me throughout this morning.  There was so much construction & detours & it was frustrating - prayers answered.  I even got into the IKEA traffic accidentally.

Janet:  Do you have to drive to Denver to shop for furniture?

Hi, friends,

It's been a really lazy day thus far, but I'll be picking up on those spreadsheet duties in about an hour. In the interim, I decided to come by to say "hi" to everyone, and to say I hope you have a wonderful day.

Love to all,
Ruth Ann

Larry, as I understand it, the buy-back means if you want to keep the furniture that was damaged, you figure how long the life of it should have been, subtract how long you have had it, and they depreciate it from the original cost.  Or, say something cost $1000, is ten years old and should have lasted 20 years.  So they say it is worth $500, but offer to 'sell' it back to you for $100, then they give you $400 on it.  Clear as mud?

Today we checked out of the hotel, went to see the insurance agent, got references for contractors, looked at cabinets two places, then drove to Hugoton and had a sandwich with Diane and Abby, then looked at carpet there.  How to decide?  What colors?  It seems to me everything today is in shades of brown, and I have never liked brown!!  I guess I am totally out of step with the current color trends!  I wish I had someone to help me with these decisions, as Darrel is mostly color blind!  The difficulty of deciding is making very difficult what should be exciting.

Carol, we won't be buying any new furniture at this point.  The most expensive thing damaged is our entertainment center which covers one whole wall, for sure we will take the buy-back offer on that unit.  We bought it in Amarillo in 2005.

I need to go start weeding out books.  We both love books, but have too many, and not enough bookcases to hold them.  We will donate them to the library and the senior center.

I am feeling really tired today.  I did go to my chiropractor, and he found I had tendonitis in my shoulder.  He said it is usually caused by overworking.  HUH??     So I will see him again on Monday.

Love you folks, see you later.  Got to make the bed so we have a place to sleep tonight!  The middle room, which didn't get flooded looks like something from
the Hoarders."  AWFUL.  I took a photo of it! :P

Hi everyone.  We enjoyed a really pleasant day here yesterday.  It wasn't as hot as it had been and the humidity didn't seem to be bad.  I had a quiet day after attending a meeting in the morning.  Pat is attending a twice a month book study at our church with a group of women and they meet yesterday afternoon.  When she got home we went to Zaxby's for a nice  salad with chicken.  We came home and watched an old Columbo Mystery movie that we had gotten from Netflix.  I have Bible study and choir today and that will be a full schedule for me.

Carol, your missed appointments is a great example of "how important is it" since it could easily be rescheduled.  It sounds like a very reasonable situation with streets bearing very similar names.  I an understand the anxiety in waiting to hear the final word on the job situation for your SIL.

Ruth Ann, is this a several day project on the spreadsheet?

Janet, we once had a robbery where we lost a number of things from the house.  All I remember is it was quite a hassle to try to remember and then determine the cost and remember when we bought it.  Of course, you have the pieces of furniture and things that have been ruined so it isn't a matter of memory of something you can no longer see.  I am pretty certain if we ever have to select a new carpet color it will probably be some shade of blue or blue grey again and Pat and I both love it.  Guess what color carpet we have in our house.  :)  Take care of your shoulder and don't forget that everything doesn't have to be done today.  :)

Euchre was fun yesterday.  We had one sub since the original lady had a doctor's appointment.  For food we had a taco bar.  Really good.

Today Ivalou is going with me to my appointment with my Nurse.  Then we will be going out to eat somewhere.  I want to go to a book store and check the price of 'The Help'.  If it is lower than what I can get it to download on Kindle, I will get the book.  I want to see the movie but everyone says you should read the book first!

Bright and sunny again in Indiana.  Not a cloud in the sky...at least, to the north.  What was brown a few weeks ago is a vibrant green now.  Not much rain but we have heavy dew that the sun doesn't burn off until afternoon.

Time to move on...

Prayers are answered!!!!

Son-in-law was offered a good job today!  It has 20 months in this terrible economy and many he knows still are not working or working below as he did for the past 7 months.  Our daughter's hours have been cut to less than 2 days per week so it was crunch time.

I called Don - who was at a lake in the mountains and he had great cell phone reception.  You never know where the cell will work and it is strange.

Janet: Good luck - I did not want beige this last time so I chose a frosted brown and it seems to be doing well after three years.  What are the symptoms of tendonitis?  One shoulder is giving me fits off and on & especially when cutting fabrics.  What can they do for your problem?

I sorted books all morning, took a car load to the Senior center.  Then we went to the lumber yard and were allowed to bring home a book full of photos of the work Lon (the man who will be our contractor) has done.  He does BEAUTIFUL work!!  This afternoon we both worked on cleaning out unused clothes, so ha ve bags and boxes ready to take to Salvation army or somewhere.

Carol,my shoulder aches and the feeling of pins and needles goes down my arm to my fingertips.  Dr. Saxon adjusted me, and told me to use ice on it twice a day for 15 minutes.  And take Ibuprofen!

Good news re son-in-law's job, Carol!  Praise God!

I think it is time to rest,as my arm is hurting again.

Larry: Geezer Camp is a camp run by the Wesleyan Church for over 60's
It was the first time we attended at the invitation of friends. Here is the website for more information than I can put here: http://slwc.celect.org/about.

I'm not sure if this will work, however I put, below, a link to the brochure.

[imgwidth=116  height=150  alt="Geezer Camp"]http://www.christianphotographers.com/community/gallery2/d/6995-2/Geezer+Camp.JPG[/img] (http://www.christianphotographers.com/community/v/RuthV/Geezer+Camp.JPG.html)

We really had a lovely time; the messages and the music were fantastic!! Everett is interested in going again next year. He only went, this year, to please me.  :sidedance:

Hi everyone.  Wow, we had another very hot day yesterday after a couple of a bit cooler days.  At least that gives the feel that cooler weather is on the way.  I have some errands to do this morning that will keep me busy for awhile and that is about it for today. A few days ago I purchased a raw coconut at Walmart and yesterday we decided to see what we had.  We had the terrible time getting it opened and had to look at a couple of YouTube videos that demonstrated the techniques.  The type of bought really didn't have what Pat wanted and we ended up throwing it all away.  There was a just a very think layer of coconut meat and that was what Pat wanted.

Carol, great news on the job front for your son.  Sorry to hear you are having shoulder pain.  My wife has had to resort to using a cane once again to help her get around the house as her hip and knee are really bothering her when she is up on her feet.

Guess I will have to try to find Pat on Facebook.  I have really not gotten very active with it although have an account.

Janet, it sounds like spring cleaning (or fall cleaning at your house).  I grew up in the country and my mother always did both spring and fall housecleaning.  Of course we lived on a dirt, later gravel, road and that was before AC so the windows had to be open so dust was more of a problem.

RuthV, thanks for the info on the Geezer Camp.  It sounds like a wonderful experience and it is nice that you husband really enjoyed it and wants to go back.

Ruth, that's a cute name for the camp!  Shows someone had a sense of humor!

At 9 this morning, the contractor is to come and start working on estimates for the insurance company; also a guy from one of the lumber yard is to be here to measure the cabinets.  Progress--I hope!

This morning I put the bedspread back on the bed and dusted everything I could dust in the bedroom.  Guess I am longing for some sense of normalcy again.  But really, it isn't too bad.  Shower still works for now--has to be torn out and either replaced or repaired, though.  It is ceramic tile and we built it ourselves!  :'(  New technology today on that, too.  Now they have a rubber thing you use underneathe te tile for the bottom and it comes up a ways all around.  We are thinking we will just have them tear out the whole thing and replace with manufactured marble (not that but the newer stuff, can't remember name of it.  Very nice, easy to clean, and we get a new door, too.  They estimate the cost would be almost the same either way.  I know....TMI!  Sorry.

School started here yesterday.  Those summer breaks keep getting shorter!

Talk to you later!

:coffee:  Just had my walk.  It is fun to watch the middle school kids walking to their classes - I think everything begins by 7:30.  The ones riding bikes like to pick up speed before going up a dirt path on a steep part of the hill.  Tons of people walking every morning and especially those with dogs.  If I don't know the people, I know the dogs.

Counting blessings.

Janet, I know each step toward getting back to normal will be a major relief for you.  I can't imagine going through what you are facing.

Right now it's sunny, breezy and cool and only expected to get up to around 80 this afternoon.  "Possible isolated thunder showers" for the next three days and who knows what that means! I guess we'll just have to take it as it comes - as though we could change anything.   ;)

I used to have a facebook account but after about 6 months or so of only thinking to look at it every couple of weeks, and not having any idea what to put on it and never seeing anything from anyone else except requests for "friends", I shut it down.  Now I don't even know how to get to Pat's.   ;D

I woke up with this children's hymn going through my dreams.... Any one else remember this one?

Gentle Jesus Meek And Mild
Gentle Jesus, meek and mild,
Look upon a little child;
Pity my simplicity,
Suffer me to come to Thee.

Lamb of God, I look to Thee;
Thou shalt my Example be;
Thou art gentle, meek, and mild;
Thou wast once a little child.

Lord, I would be as Thou art;
Give me Thine obedient heart;
Thou art pitiful and kind,
Let me have Thy loving mind.

Let me, above all, fulfill
God my heav'nly Father's will;
Never His good Spirit grieve;
Only to His glory live.

Loving Jesus, gentle Lamb,
In Thy gracious hands I am;
Make me, Savior, what Thou art,
Live Thyself within my heart.

Carol I can relate with you and Janet about the shoulder pain.  I am due for surgery on my right shoulder in September.  This is not fun for you.  You may want to give the shoulder a rest from cutting.

Everyone else I have been reading and praying for each of you.

It is said that no matter how bad your problems, someone else has worse.  I was thinking about Janet and her water problems while reading her posts.  Janet, at least it was clean water....not muddy, sewage water.  I was also thinking about the show on TLC about Hoarding.  I can't imagine people living like that and acting like it is normal or giving excuses as to why it is that way.  Not to say YOU are hoarding but we all tend to keep things that are of no use to us.  We all need to purge our stuff once in a while.  I did when I moved in here 10 years ago.  Time to do it again!!

I have the GasBuddy app on my Droid.  Gas around here fluctuates so much.  Gas at Lapel is $3.69.9 a gallon...1.79 miles away.  Gas down by Tony's house is $3.41.9 a gallon...9.79 miles away.  Do I drive that far to save 28 cents a gallon?  That's 20 miles round trip and I get 27mpg in my car.  If I only need 10 gallon I would be saving $2.80.  I need a bigger tank to make it worthwhile to drive that far to save 28 cents a gallon!  Whew! Can you tell I am thinking while typing??

Nothing new happening today.  I do need to go to the bank to get some money...other than that nothing.

Hi, friends,

Etta Sue, the physical therapy clinic is right beside a Wal-Mart that has a Murphy gas station on the property. If a person buys a gas card from Wal-Mart, then they can get 10 cents off a gallon. So, today, I put $20 on my card, and my fillup was at 3.279 per gallon. I'm so thankful the costs are dropping a bit!

Larry, the spreadsheet is actually a newer listing of apartment dwellers here at our 2-tower complex. This friend has an old listing she's tried to keep updated, but when I came in 2009, they had stopped giving out the directories, because of HUD privacy restrictions.

Therefore, we're creating our own list. Thus far, I've input about 265 names, and we're at the end of the G's! Gonna be a long process, but hopefully worth it in the long run.

Also, we're setting up a listing of contacts for speakers and those whose responsibility it is for asking a speaker to come to our Tuesday morning devotions. My friend was away for 3 weeks, and then she realized that only she holds that list. So, it's necessary that we get it set up and ready to print.

At physical therapy today they put me on a leg press machine and set the weights for 70 lbs. And the hip flexion machine is now set on 30 lbs. And, when I did the standing leg exercises, they put 2 lb. weights on my ankles, plus the weight of my shoes made it about 6-7 lbs. THAT caused some tears, for the left leg isn't quite ready to hold my weight yet.

Oh, well, I'm SO thankful the insurance folks authorized 16 visits, and I just finished my 6th. Each time I can see just a little bit of improvement, so am thankful to go, even if it hurts.

Now, my bed looks mighty inviting - I think I'm gonna "rest my eyes" for a bit!

;)

Love to y'all,
Ruth Ann

Etta Sue, you are right about having too much stuff!  We had an auction when we moved into this place and got rid of most of our excess, but it tends to gather again.  I had been telling my sister Shirley that as I get older I am thinking I want to be more of a mimimalist, but this has given me the impetus to get busy purging!  When I watch "Hoarders" I cannot imagine how people actually live that way!  :yikes:  I took a lot of books to the Senior Center yesterday, now I have bags and boxes of clothes to go somewhere, with lots more to go through.  It's a process.....

I just got home from a trip to the lumber yard for more paint color chips and ideas.  So many decisions!!

It looks really bare in here.  I took all my paintings and other stuff off the walls, as the sheet rock repair is to begin tomorrow.

Terrible about the 9 year old boy dying from a deadly brain eating amoeba!  From fresh water lake!

I have been having computer problems recently. My son built me a new computer, however when I got back from the camp, it started to give me problems. Software crashing!!.... so I cannot get onto the internet. My accounting software is working, for the most part; so I'm thankful for that.

He is helping me run MEMTESTs, etc... so I should be up and running in a couple of days. I am using my laptop to access the internet; however the keyboard misspells frequently!!

You people and your gas prices - I wish I had your problem.  Lowest here is $3.97.  I get mine from a chain of stations where you pay monthly, and it's a little lower ($3.85).

Gas prices again.  Al, I am sorry.  Lapel, it was $3.68.9.  Thought I am going to Noblesville and see what it is there.  Same price.  Thought I will wait until today when I go to the Urologist.  I went to Barnes and Noble, then Taco Bell.  Came back by the gas station an hour later than the first time and it was $3.55.9.  13 cents cheaper!!  So I filled up Hawaii!

I didn't get the book, 'The Help'.  It was too high.  But I downloaded it to Nook on my Droid.  Very good book.  About the days in the '60's in Mississippi and the white women with their black maids.  The writer is so good...you can see and hear these women talking.

Today is Botox day.  I am needing it!  Later!!!

Hi everyone.  We are just back from a quick trip to meet our son and DIL in Madison, GA.  Pat and I have decided we really don't need a second vehicle so we gave our older car to them as they needed some reliable transportation.  It is a 2006 Hyundai Accent.  This has been my car and I really liked to drive it around town.  We had a nice rain late yesterday evening and the yards sure appreciated it and were much greener this morning.  Nothing else on the schedule for today and am ready to take it easy.

Janet, sounds like you all have a lot of decisions to make.  I remember a number of years ago I looked into putting a bathroom upstairs and they were talking about a marble type panel that can easily and quickly be installed.  We have one of those set in vinyl showers in our master bedroom and it is easy to maintain as there is no grout between the tiles.

Jeanne, I am no expert on Facebook but think you would have to have your own account to be able to see Pat's postings.  I looked at my page yesterday and looked at the photos she had posted which were very beautiful scenery.

Judy, I didn't realize you are facing a second shoulder surgery.  At least you know what to expect this time around.

Etta Sue, I saw gas here at $3.38 a gallon.  It seems to be coming down a few cents almost daily, which is nice.

Ruth Ann, I saw the signs at Wal-Mart for the 10 cents off a gallon.  However, we really aren't close enough to make that convenient.

Sarah, hope you like your new Android phone.  I have one and really like it.

Etta Sue, we just picked up the recorded book of "The Help".  Pat said it is 18 hours to get through the disks.  I noticed on the back of the case that it was labeled "women's fiction".

Larry, it's 12 miles to the nearest WalMart lot with a gas station on it, but literally beside the physical therapy clinic. So, miles driven for the therapy put me in reach of that station. And, being right beside the WalMart has made it very easy for me to do "minimalist" shopping - no browsing, just grab a cart, ride to the shelf that holds the needed item(s) and leave.

Today my friend and I will spend another 2-3 hours on the spreadsheet project. So, I've been busily at work being "Molly Maid" in this apartment. Each little project adds to a sense of well being and knowing that at some point, the work will be completed. :)

Y'all have a great day.

Keith has gone to Portland to see  the boys, next week is Kyle's Birthday so we got him a small  compressor that plugs into the lighter in the car. Just in case he gets a flat. Those little compressors sure do come in handy.

So I have the house to myself for a couple of days. all I have done today is runt he dishwasher, made the bed and shampooed my hair. I do need to get some graphic work done for  one of my groups. Do some Crocheting and finish this dishcloth I've been knitting on every now and then.

Have a very blessed day.

Yes, decisions!  Now I am thinking I don't want to put carpet back in the living room, but instead put a hard surface of some kind, then use a big area rug in the middle.  I love the new Dura Ceramic which has a cushion layer in it and isn't cold, but it is very pricy!  We are waiting to hear from State Farm how much we will be allowed for replacement cost.

The carpenter is here, he is repairing a place in the laundry room ceiling which has needed it for a long time.  I have looked at paint colors until I am dizzy; and my very short night's sleep isn't helping.

Larry that was very generous of you to give your car to the "kids."  Hope your other one serves you long and well.  I am taking things to the car as I run across them, that I want to let go.  Our senior center has a garage sale about every two to three months, so we take stuff there.  I don't feel that having a garage sale would generate enough money to make it worth all the work.  So far, we have taken two carloads away, and that isn't even scratching the surface!

Darrel has sanded the window sills in bedroom and living room where condensation had messed up the finish, so he is getting something done, too.  :)

Have rested and feel much better after a very busy morning as I indicated above.

Janet, I agree with you about the garage sale.  We have had our last one as usually ended up taking a lot of stuff to the goodwill after the sale time.  They have some beautiful flooring now that looks so much like wood but easier to care for.  Our church recently removed carpet from our Fellowship Hall and put in a floor covering that is a bit cushioned and looks very much like a hard wood floor.  It is beautiful.  Pat mentioned the other day she would like to replace the flooring we have in our kitchen so we will probably do this one of these days.

Marilyn, enjoy your quiet time to yourself.  Nice that Keith can spend time with his sons.

Ruth Ann, sounds like a productive day for you.

We are about to move some furniture here & I am waiting for Don to get off his computer.

Gas was $3.25 a gallon with our Costco card.  We shopped using coupons from their store and sales today and bought enough toilet paper to last several months.  I hope I never have to downsize storage space.

Al:  I am just assuming that tax on fuel is higher in your state - plus the fact that they won't build another refinery and/or drill for oil out there.  Wyoming usually has the best price but there are more cows than people in that state.

I am still on cloud nine since news of son-in-laws new employment.  Our granddaughter goes to a private school and she was able to get a scholarship this year - this school celebrates Christmas and mention Hanukkah ,  unlike the public schools in Boulder county.  I cannot even write here what that tax-payer district forces on the children - unbelievable.  So, prayers answered that she can stay in that private school.  She has a Jewish friend at school and it is just lovely to attend their Christmas programs.

Larry:  You might be interested to know that I just found out there are short movies (usually about travel) to be downloaded free from the library - to the computer or it also says to a mobile.  There is one about the quilts slaves made so I am going to try it when a hour is free.

Pat's pictures on Facebook are lovely.  Planning to see her next week.

Hi everyone.  Had a very restful night and looking forward to this Saturday.  Nothing unusual on our agenda for today so think it will be a rather quiet day.  Our ice maker in our refrigerator,  which isn't very old, has broken.  Fortunately, when I bought the appliance I did get a 5 year warranty on it based on the poor experience we had with our previous refrigerator, which we replaced after about 4 years.  It will probably be Monday before I can contact them.  The ice maker has always worked very well up until the last couple of months.

Carol, our library also has videos that I think can be downloaded.  I haven't done that but might check into it.

Since I posted so late yesterday not much to write about or comment on.  However, I did get a nice piece this morning from a friend.  It is possible that it has been shared before as it sort of rings a bell but I felt it was worth my time to reread and so will share it here.  It is called "Old Dandelion":

Having four visiting family members, my wife was very busy, so I offered to go to the store for her to get some needed items, which included light bulbs, paper towels, trash bags, detergent and Clorox. So off I went.

I scurried around the store, gathered up my goodies and headed for the checkout counter, only to be blocked in the narrow aisle by a young man who appeared to be about sixteen-years-old. I wasn't in a hurry, so I patiently waited for the boy to realize that I was there. This was when he waved his hands excitedly in the air and declared in a loud voice, "Mommy, I'm over here."

It was obvious now, he was mentally challenged and also startled as he turned and saw me standing so close to him, waiting to squeeze by. His eyes widened and surprise exploded on his face as I said, "Hey Buddy, what's your name?"

"My name is Denny and I'm shopping with my mother," he responded proudly.

"Wow," I said, "that's a cool name; I wish my name was Denny, but my name is Steve."

"Steve, like Stevarino?" he asked.

"Yes," I answered. "How old are you Denny?"

"How old am I now, Mommy?" he asked his mother as she slowly came over from the next aisle.

"You're fifteen-years-old Denny; now be a good boy and let the man pass by."

I acknowledged her and continued to talk to Denny for several more minutes about summer, bicycles and school. I watched his brown eyes dance with excitement, because he was the center of someone's attention. He then abruptly turned and headed toward the toy section.

Denny's mom had a puzzled look on her face and thanked me for taking the time to talk with her son. She told me that most people wouldn't even look at him, much less talk to him.

I told her that it was my pleasure and then I said something I have no idea where it came from, other than by the prompting of the Holy Spirit. I told her that there are plenty of red, yellow, and pink roses in God's Garden; however, " Blue Roses " are very rare and should be appreciated for their beauty and distinctiveness. You see, Denny is a Blue Rose and if              someone doesn't stop and smell that rose with their heart and touch that rose with their kindness, then they've missed a blessing from God.

She was silent for a second, then with a tear in her eye she asked, "Who are you?"

Without thinking I said, "Oh, I'm probably just a dandelion , but I sure love living in God's garden."

She reached out, squeezed my hand and said, "God bless you!" and then I had tears in my eyes.

May I suggest, the next time you see a BLUE ROSE , don't turn your head and walk off. Take the time to smile and say Hello.  Why? Because, by the grace of GOD, this mother or father could be you. This could be your child, grandchild, niece or nephew. What a difference a moment can mean to that person or their family.

From an old dandelion!

Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God.

"People will forget what you said, People will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made then feel!"    ANON.

Thanks for sharing that, Larry.  As the mother of a disabled daughter, I can really relate to that mother's feelings.  Sometimes when we are out with Beth, people will talk to me about her, but not TO her, and it really makes her feel bad.  I usually say something like, "Beth, what do you think about that?" if a question hads been asked, which makes the other person realize that Beth can hear and speak for herself.  But I must admit, I ha ve been guilty of ignoring severely mentally handicapped kids myself, and I hereby repent and resolve to take the time in the future to smell and touch those BLUE ROSES.

I have been out and walked three miles or so and talked to my Lord.  I love prayer walking, sure gets my day off to a nice start.  I hadn't done my usual walk since our "flood."  So I thought it time to get back into the routine.

Lon and Dallas, our carpenter and helper, are to be here around nine today.  Wonder what changes we will see today?

A friend from Hugoton whose new book Common Threads is doing well, has volunteered to come Tuesday morning to help me make decisions on color, etc.  I am so thrilled, because Patty is a very talented interior decorator!!  Praise God for friend

Time for a cup of coffee!!  :coffee:!

Sipping coffee right now too  :coffee:  Off for a haircut this morning.  We had a dilly of day yesterday.  We moved furniture (without asking the children to help) and in the process, Don almost dropped the television.  He hung on, fell to the floor with it landing on top of him & I was able to help put the thing on the floor with his help as well.  It is so heavy - even a flat screen is heavy.  Our guardian angel works overtime with us & now we can laugh about it.

Pat:  In case you are checking in here - I wrote an email to you and mentioned a place where you can get lunch - if that is what you desire.  It is a huge spot on the freeway - Little America but has a dining area I know  from past visits.  We will get there ahead of time and check it out again.  Easy parking.

Janet:  ((((Hugs))))

While sitting in the waiting room at the doctor's office, I was wondering why the nurse was calling people in that came in after me.  I was looking at my watch, when the nurse said, 'I know.  You are coming up!'  Then I realized that I left home an hour earlier than I planned.  Seems when she took me back, they were right on time!  But I did get some reading done on Nook/Droid.

The Botox injections went smooth...with a little bit of discomfort.  No pain but discomfort.  I left there and ate lunch at Culver's.  Then to Marsh's for some much needed groceries.  Then home.

Knowing that after this type of procedure, I should take it easy, I did.  I got caught up online and then I laid down to read.  Then with Inky on my stomach, we both took a nap!

I woke up around 6pm.  I ate a salad I got at Marsh's and watched TV.  I got caught up with my recordings and went to bed to read at 9:30pm.

I should have gotten the audio book of 'The Help', then shared it with Ivalou.  She says she can't concentrate to read a book anymore.

Ivalou is gone to Marion, IN.  Marge's grandson is getting married this evening.  Ivalou, Betty and Marge are coming home tonight.

Seemed weird knowing Ivalou wasn't home in the neighborhood.

Hi, friends,

Well, I just got back from a relatively busy day - a meeting with a doctor, then lunch with a friend, that friend requested I drive him by an AT&T store, so we went there, and I had also been interested in changin g providers. Ended up saving more than $60 per month on charges for LOTS more services, etc. This one is an Iphone, and I put a racy new "jacket" on that phone colored a beautiful deep rose blending down to a beautiful purple. Almost makes me think of tye-dye!

Yep, my friends, I DO remember tie dyed things.

Carol, I was speaking with a friend recently about those quilts made by the slaves and said I would like to research this, for I'm interested in trying to make some quilts. This will be a new project, but one I've wanted to do for quite some time.

Well, Larry, we're now down into the middle of the "M's" on that spreadsheet. It's SO encouraging to do a big project like that, for I'm doing it in her apartment using my new laptop. How better to learn to touch-type on that particular keyboard than a big project requiring both numbers and words!  :)

Much love to each of you.

Ruth Ann

Well, Ivalou isn't home yet!  Rumors will fly if those three ladies come to church with the going-to-a-wedding clothes!!   :roflBig:  I imagine Marge didn't want to leave the reception so they booked the motel for another night.

I am reading 'The Help' on Nook/Droid!  Love it!  It is sooo good.

Kitty got a new Smartphone and she doesn't like it.  She asked me to go to the Verizon store to exchange it.  They kind of talked her out of it.  What her complaints were I felt could be changed in Settings and the phone tech did.  Now she likes it.  And now we are both on Latitude so we can see where each other are.  But again, when Kitty is home...it shows her at Pendleton in the middle of a field.  I have no idea why but her old Droid did that too!

I am ready for church and I see it is raining!  We need it though!

Hi everyone.  We had another warm but nice day yesterday.  There were some brief showers around the area but not where we live.  I found my paperwork on our refrigerator and had remembered incorrectly and the warranty was for 4 not 5 years and had ended in June of this year.  Don't you wonder how appliances know to break down after the warranty expires?  We went to Ruby Tuesday's last evening for a very nice meal.  We had gotten a $15 coupon and it helped on the cost of the meal.  On the way back picked up a bag of ice and we are able to store it in the ice bin for the ice maker so that works well but just can't dispense it.  We will have to get this repaired.  I will go to church this morning.  Not sure whether Pat will feel up to it or not as still struggling with the hip and knee pain.  It seemed better yesterday evening but got worse after we got back from eating out.  Nothing else on the schedule for today.

Janet, those little stories really make us think about our own actions.  Each of us is a child of God and thus deserve respect.  I find that a smile goes a long way and most people, if they won't speak will usually respond in kind.  The older I get the more I realize how much I am like my mother in liking to be around people.  Wow, that was a long walk.  Nice you will have an interior decorator to give you some ideas.

Carol, that was a frightening experience yesterday and sure hope Don feels ok this morning.  I bet your kids are going to give you a hard time about not waiting for help.  Fortunately these new big screen TVs are relatively light and much easier to handle.

Etta Sue, waiting for a doctor is a great place to have the smartphone and to be able to read or work a puzzle or something.  I have a little word find puzzles that I often play for something not difficult but entertaining.  I always have a book underway as well.

Ruth Ann, you will love the iPhone.  Nice you are going to be able to save money.  I started out to do that when we changed but ended up probably paying more but it is one way we can help our son at this time.  Ruth Ann, based on watching my wife make many quilts I would suggest you seriously consider starting with a small one.  The first one she ever made was a king sized one and she said never again.  She enjoys making scrap quilts.  Hope you give it a try and see if you enjoy doing it.  We do have a beautiful handquilted white on white quilt hung in our family room that Pat spend two years quilting.  Pat and Paul saw it when they have stopped by.  I have decided that I will never buy another desktop computer as like using the laptop a very much and it will do everything I want.

Etta Sue, it sounds like the Latiitude is using and old map that had an error.  Glad that Kitty is getting like her new phone.  Like about everything else there is a bit of a learning curve but they are great fun, as you know.

We picked more Blackberries early this morning and there are still a lot more over there. I have two cups of juice so far and need another 2  cups for the first batch of jelly, If I don't get that out of what is dripping now I will just add some cranberry juice to the mix and go ahead and make the jelly. I baked a few Croissants this morning to have with Cream Cheese. I got the pre-frozen dough from the church where they give free stuff every Thursday, you never know what you are gonna get.

The weather is so pretty here today, nice sun and warm, 64° according to my weather AP on my phone.

Larry sorry to hear that Pat is in so much pain. You should ask Pat or Paul what the secret is for people who have arthritic pain.

Etta Sue did Iva Lou show up for church in her going to the wedding clothes?

Nice to see you Ruth Ann. How is Leslie doing these days? We don't hear much about him anymore.

It has been a quiet day.  John leaves in the morning and I have another busy week coming.  Heading into the school tomorrow to get Kassie's timetable, and to make any changes she wants made then later this week to Markham to see my SIL for the afternoon.  Looking forward to that.

Larry I agree with Marilyn, check with Pat and see how she has treated her arthritis.

Al hope things are going well for you!

Carol Happy Birthday!  I did wish you a happy birthday on FaceBook!

Have a good evening folks!

I got up early and walked a mile, then came home and did some cleaning up after the workmen.  They didn't do a very good job of sweeping up, and the gritty floors were bothersome.  Then after church I got all the laundry caught up, as they are working on the laundry room ceiling.  They said they have a small job to do in the morning, so will be late getting here, probably around 10.

We got estimates on the cabinets yesterday.  WOW!!  :o  $23,000.00 just for cabinets--and that doesn't include the counter tops or sinks!  We are afraid to go ahead with anything until we get another estimate and hear from our insurance company.  The workmen are doing the repairs not related to the water damage, stuff that has been needing done for a few years already.

We took Beth to church today again.  She really enjoys getting out of the care home, and there are several people who take time to talk to her, wheich makes her feel loved and special--which she is!

Carol, thanks for the hug!  I needed that!  And here is one for you......and please give this one to Pat for me.  Sure wish we could meet with you.

Larry, I forgot to answer your question about shingling.  Yes, I have helped shingle several houses.  I really had the hardest job, that of carrying the shingles up a ladder to the roof.  I couldn't carry a full pack, so had to open them and carry 1/3 of them up at a time.  I also helped tear off the old shingles, a hot, hard, dirty job.  I guess I have helped with every aspect of construction at one time or another.  This is the third house I helped build for my own family.

There is a story on TV right now about a young man who was murdered in Johnson, Kansas, only 20 miles from here.  His body has never been found, and the murder never solved.  I'm off to watch it!

Well, it has been an interesting day. I've learned some more about the new phone. The more I use it, the more I like it. (of course!)

Leslie and I both went to the cell phone store yesterday, then I had found a small, quiet restaurant with low lighting, so I suggested we eat there. It specializes in Thai foods, and we both enjoyed it. In fact, he suggested we return again sometime, and that next time he'd pick up the tab! His migraines continue, but he's dealing with it.

I think my next task will be to contact some plumbers for estimates on the plumbing at my home. That alone will make it difficult if my son in England is to live in the home while he refurbishes it...

$eems there'$ always a rea$on to $pend money!!!

Well, y'all have a good rest of the Lord's Day.

This has been a long day for us.  A visit with Haeather and her family then back home to get a late dinner ready.  John has gone to bed so it is my turn to do so as well.

I haven't told you about our latest additions to  our family.  We have a pair of finches that have mated and given us 6 little eggs.  That started a week ago.  Aparently they need 21 days to hatch.  The funny part about this is she has decided to lay her eggs in the food dish instead of the nest which was provided for her.  I hesitate to move the eggs, I don't want to disturb her!  I will update you in 14 days when they should start hatching!  Oh and on top of this our beautiful white cat is going to have kittens as well.  Even being with Kitten(s) she is a great mouser!

Night everyone.  If I don't get to bed John won't go to sleep knowing I am still up.  I don't know how he manages on the road not knowing when I go to bed!!!
