JennyW: Hello Everyone! Just checking in to see if anyone wants to get this group going again! Hope all is well where ever you live! 2024-08-14, 08:21:59

Oldiesmann: I'm not aware of any Jenny. Not sure why activity has died down on this site so much though 2023-06-12, 00:06:36

JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Morning Devotional...

Jesus on Serving Others
Mark 10:35-45 NLT

Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came over and spoke to him. "Teacher," they said, "we want you to do us a favor."

"What is your request?" he asked.

They replied, "When you sit on your glorious throne, we want to sit in places of honor next to you, one on your right and the other on your left."

But Jesus said to them, "You don't know what you are asking! Are you able to drink from the bitter cup of suffering I am about to drink? Are you able to be baptized with the baptism of suffering I must be baptized with?"

"Oh yes," they replied, "we are able!"

Then Jesus told them, "You will indeed drink from my bitter cup and be baptized with my baptism of suffering.  But I have no right to say who will sit on my right or my left. God has prepared those places for the ones he has chosen."

When the ten other disciples heard what James and John had asked, they were indignant.  So Jesus called them together and said, "You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them.  But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else.  For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many."

In what ways are you learning to be a servant?
James and John said they were willing to face any trial for Christ.  Both did suffer:  James dies as a martyr (Acts 12:2), and John was forced to live in exile (Rev. 1:9).

It is easy to say we will endure anything for Christ, and yet most of us complain over the most minor problems.  If we say we are willing to suffer on a large scale for Christ, we must also be willing to suffer the irritations that may come with serving others.

Whew!  This is work tonight getting the new week started.  I almost feel like I am on dial up!

Good night.  Talk to you in the mornin'!

Janet

Hello!

Ruth Ann, I am a great admirer of your faith, courage, selflessness, and wisdom.  You just have to be one of God's favorite kids!

Jane, I enjoy it when you do decide to come out of your corner and chat a bit!

Etta Sue, what a great description of Kitty's house.  Makes me tired to even think of all the upkeep and cleaning, even though I would enjoy a bit more space.  Well, when I get more stuff out of here, I will find more space, right?  Good devotional, and thanks.

I'm posting tonight because in the morning I have to leave rather early to take Beth for the MRIs.

I wish you all a very peaceful and restful night of refreshing sleep.  (Me, too!)
My book Rising Above available at JanetDamon.com

Pat

Will be praying for Beth, Janet.

Thanks so much for the devotional to start the week, Etta Sue.  The site was down and Ian has been working on it for a couple of hours.  Maybe that's why you were finding it slow?

Thanks, Pat ... Shortly after I posted, and went to post a reply to Mick in the prayer forum, this whole place went into shock!   :o  My reply to Mick went off into cyber space and, for the next few hours, I could not get in here either.... I just knew I had broken it!   :-[  :-\  ???

Thanks, Janet, but given the situation just discribed, maybe I should come out of my corner more often ... or maybe stay there indefinitely!   :D

You'll be in my prayers as you travel with Beth tomorrow ...  <3

Etta Sue I really enjoyed the "tour" of Kitty's house, too, but for sure I would never want to be the one having to do the cleaning and upkeep.   :-\

Thanks for the devotional ... really good, as usual.   :)

I'll be back ... sometime ... All y'all take care and have a wonderful week.
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Actually, Mick telephoned me from England saying he had posted a message and then couldn't get back on so maybe Mick broke it.  ;)

Good Morning Thank you Etta Sue for the devotional today.
QuoteIt is easy to say we will endure anything for Christ, and yet most of us complain over the most minor problems.
Really struck home to me, last night when I read the devotional.

Today I am taking Ruth on an outing with the McKinleyville Seniors to the Casino in Loleta. We are going on the bus. She has been wanting to go to that casino every since she heard that some woman won a million on the penny machines. I don't gamble but I thin k she wants me to feed the machine for her since she can see hardly at all.

So I am prayed up and I have others praying for me, I am covered by the blood, I don't want no gambling spirits attaching themselves to me.

I am now going to work an hour earlier to prepare her breakfast, she doen't do a very good job of that anymore. I am trying to give her the best possible care and I expect the best of others.

Gota go now.

Guess what, the sun is out and bright!  I had best not get too excited, it may disappear any minute ;)

You surely do have an interesting life, Marilyn.  Years ago, on a bus trip, we stopped in Reno and I saw what Casino's were like.  Have avoided them ever since. We have them springing up all over the place now.  The natives recently opened a large one a few miles away.  What a sad way to spend one's life and money.  Seniors here seem to be particularly addicted.  Guess wisdom does not always come with growing old....

Not much to discuss.  Had a sort of sleep deprived night.  Was necessary to get up and take out the Recycle bags anyway....Wendy can't do it now and I am the only other early bird around.  Good thing I am going downhill with them, could not succeed otherwise ::)

Thought Al might get a chuckle out of this:

Modern   Church

A rich man went to his pastor and said, "I want you and your wife to take a three month trip to the Holy Land at my expense. When you come back, I'll have a surprise for you." The pastor accepted the offer and he and his wife went off to the Middle East.

Three months later they returned home and were met by the wealthy parishioner, who told them while they were gone, he had a new church built. "It's the finest building money can buy, pastor," said the man, "No expense was spared." And he was right. It was a magnificent edifice both outside and in.

But there was one striking difference. There was only one pew and it was at the very back. "A church with only one pew?" asked the pastor.

"You just wait until Sunday." said the rich man.

When the time came for the Sunday service, the early arrivals entered the church, filed onto the one pew and sat down. When the pew was full, a switch clicked silently, a circuit closed, the gears meshed, a belt moved and, automatically, the rear pew began to move forward. When it reached the front of the church it came to a stop. At the same time, another empty pew came up from below at the back and more people sat down. And so it continued, pews filling and moving forwards until finally the church was full, from front to back.

"Wonderful!" said the pastor, "Marvellous!"

The service began, and the pastor started to preach his sermon. He launched into his text and, when 12 o'clock came, he was still going strong with no end in sight. Suddenly a bell rang and a trap door in the floor behind the pulpit dropped open.

"Wonderful!" said the congregation, "Marvellous!"

                                      ;)

Pleasant Day/Evening and God Bless.

Liz

CHANGE NOT THY FAITH WITH CHANGING TIMES

JudyB

No No ! I was the one who broke it!  I posted in the pictures forum and poof my post went out to cyberspace!  I am glad I wasn't the only one to have problems.

Etta Sue I love the devotional.  With the girls I am constantly saying he who wants to be first must be last.  Difficult lesson for children.

Sun is shining there is a wonderful breeze. and the smell is gone!  We got the chicken coop done on the weekend and wow what a wonderful place for the birds.  They have more room than they need.  I am really surprised at the warmth in there.  The birds have grown and have feathers...enough to fly.  So on the advice of a friend we have clipped the pin feathers.  They are a beautiful range of white, to brown, with many speckled ones.

John was so tired last night that I really wish he could have stayed home an additional night, but no he was off, slept in St. Catherines last night with only 2 hours left to get to the drop off point.

I was listening to the radio as I wrote this.  I heard something interesting.  Many saints have fallen because they didn't  follow H A L T
Hungry
Angry
Lonely
Tired

Our Lord can and does fill all these needs.  But when we are  hungry, angry, lonely, or tired we need to recognise the symptoms, and not act till all the needs have been met.  Eat of the Word as well as physical nourishment, pray for  His peace, let Him fill the emptiness, and rest in Him and let Him give you rest.....

Pat

Hi Everyone!

It's so hot here today.  I have a little fountain on my deck and the sound of the water is so refreshing in the heat.  Geordie is enjoying drinking the water in it!

What are the rest of you doing today?

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.

Jane, your comment about "breaking the site" makes me chuckle.  Having taught a lot of seniors how to use the computer I have heard that remark often.  They are always afraid to touch anything because they might break the computer.  I always try to assure them that as long as they don't delete any file they haven't created there is nothing they can do to break it short of taking a hammer to it.

Etta Sue, it sounds like Kitty has a lovely home.  As someone else said I am sure glad Before we moved to our retirement home we had a big house and I was glad to move to this smaller house.  As it is we have to have help with the cleaning and yard as neither Pat or I are able anymore to do it.  Thanks for the new devotional.  As always those messages have a very pertinent message.

Pat, glad the site is back up.  It sounds like you are getting the heat we have had the last few days.  It is a little better here today.

Ruth Ann, I am so happy for you and the weekend you had.  Having had the experience of seeing one of our children reach out to God during this year and return to the way she was raised has been so meaningful to me.  It just reminds me that I must never give up as God is awesome and works in his own time.  We continue to pray for our son.

Jane, I always enjoy your postings.

Since I wrote the above my wife got back from picking up our daughter and taking her to the chiropractor.  We then went to have lunch and then took her back to the subway.  Pat and I then went to the mall as they needed to load some new software in the special attachment to her new sewing machine that is used for quilting.  I went over to Kaiser and had blood drawn to check my PSA again.  We came home and I rested for an hour.

We are now having a nice shower.  The lawn people have just finished mowing the yard so the timing is very good.  The housekeeper had to cancel today but should be here tomorrow.

JudyB, it sure doesn't take long for those little chicks to grow.

Liz, I liked your funny for today.  That must have been a Presbyterian Church since the back pews are always filled before the front ones.

Marilyn, it is nice of you to go with Ruth and give her a day to do something she wants to do.

Guess I had better get this posted before we lose electricity in the thunder storm.

Hello all!  Just hanging out with the kids right now, getting ready to tackle some needling little chores that have been stacking up on me.  Actually, trying to procrastinate is probably more accurate. :)

Did an interesting shoot this morning.  Some of our friends are professional bluegrass "pickers" and they are working on a new album, so they wanted me to take pictures of it.  We went to the Vance Birthplace (a historic site) and it is really rustic, etc.  We finished that and one of asked me if I had time to go up to a neat spot at a small river.  Long story short -- I then took some shots of them at the river, but to get the perspective I wanted, I had to de-shoe and wade on in.  brrrr.  mountain streams are COLD!

Hope all ya'll have a good day.  I guess I've procrastinated enough.

Etta Sue

Good afternoon!!!

I slept so good last night.  A good deep sleep!

Thanks to everyone who commented on the devotion AND on my description of Kitty's house.  Have I told you all that Anderson, Indiana, is proposing an airport that will take Kitty and Bob's house and some farm land of theirs?  Suppose to be a big airport that will enable cargo planes like FedEX and such.  That will only be a mile and a half from me but it isn't a done deal yet.  And if it does go, it make not be a working airport until 2010!

Ivalou came over this morning and she was going to get Parker this afternoon and he will be here for I don't know how long.  But some other women and us were going out to eat Wednesday at a new restaurant in Noblesville but she didn't think Parker would want to go.  A few years ago he wouldn't care but he is 13 now. :-[ So I called a lady near us and told her I would go and drive.

Then I made some potato salad.  I looooove potato salad!

Then I sprayed my rocks with Round UP for the grass and weeds that are growing in them.  Why does weeds grow without rain but grass doesn't grow without rain?  My yard was full of tall weeds....mostly around the edges where I had sprayed at one time Round Up.  So then I mowed the grass.  Still looks brown but it looks good without the tall weeds and buckhorns!

Then I showered and fixed a hamburger to go with my potato salad.

I have my photography entry ready for the Indiana State Fair to put in the mailbox tomorrow.  Glad that chore is over.  Next is to print my photos, buy matte board and have Kitty help me with cutting the mattes.  Then get them all to the State Fair to be hung and judged!

Karma ~ The photo shoot sounds fabulous!  What's the name of the group again?

Well, well, well ... I'm here only be default!   :-\  Still having problems whenever I click on a link other than from the Index.  But that is a marked improvement from earlier (like less than an hour ago).  I couldn't get in here at all since last night.

Yeah, Larry, I didn't think I broke this site but it did seem quite a coincidence that it happened right after I'd posted for the first time in a long time.   :-\

I will, very gingerly, work my way back into your company ... and I PROMISE I will be more "talkative" in the future.

I thought it was Baptists who sat back there.  Presbyterians are MUCH better!

I liked it too, I think.  However, Liz, I had to ask myself whether Liz had ever hleard me preach and whether she might be planning something exciting for me?!

Ruth Ann Bice

Hi, friends,

I'm home from work - got home on time this evening. The pressure seems to have lifted a bit, and I actually was able to work out a graphic problem I had experienced on Thursday evening when working late.

Now, to get some additional programming done tomorrow, but first the weekly AND daily reports must go out, and there's someone to train and another someone waiting in the wings to be trained as soon as everything is "right."

So, busy, busy.

Y'all have a good evening.

Ruth Ann
...his compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.

We had a little rain yesterday afternoon after about 90 minutes of thunder with no rain.  Every little bit helps.  The yard people had just finished.

The housekeeper is now scheduled to come on Wednesday and that works better as Pat has a quilting meeting today and I have something I need to do and then am going out to lunch with a friend.

The cafe, where I go almost every morning, raised their prices yesterday.  There had not been a price increase in about 6 years so don't feel I can complain about the increase.  Certainly everything the owner buys must be going up as is food everywhere.

Nothing else new here.  Plan on having a nice day and hope you all do the same.

Ruth Ann, glad you had a less pressured day.  Hope that continues for you the rest of the week.

Al, I guess Baptists and Presbyterians have a lot in common.  :)

Jane, you know your postings are always welcome.  Good to see you posting.

Etta Sue, it sounds like it would be a big loss for Kitty to lose her home to a new airport.  However, when the public officials decide on something like that it doesn't much matter what is in the way.  They have the power of eminent domain and just take the property to proceed with the project even as a final purchase price may be in litigation.  We are experiencing that with a new road going through our town.

Karmat, it sounds like you are a very dedicated photographer to wade in the very cold water to get the shot.

JudyB

Hi Folks.

Pat has no internet today, don't know how long she will be down, it went down last night since 8:00.

It is another hot day here today.

This is a short post, not to wordy.

Have a good day

Hello all!  Getting ready to go to work.  yea.  rah.  I can, of course, think of other things I would rather be doing. :)  But, I suppose I should be thankful that I have a good job with awesome bosses (they think I'm indispensable).

So, life is good.

Kristi has learned a new phrase.  I can tell or ask her something, and if I ask, "WHY?"  she'll reply, "'cause I don't want to."   She has also hit that "tantrum" stage.  Actually, it is kinda funny how she screws her face up and runs because she is mad.  So far, it has only happened at home.  A lot of times if she is crying because she wants something, she has to stop crying before she can get it.  We didn't do that so much with Travis, and we are still trying to break him from whining to get what he wants.

he's excited about homeschooling this year.  He will officially be in kindergarten, and is looking forward to it.

better run.  I may be indispensable, but it isn't good to be late. :)

Marilyn

Larry an Al The same thing happens in our church so the Presbyterians and Baptists have no market on sitting the the last pews.

Things went well as we went to the casino yesterday. Ruth  held up for the entire time we were there, that was my first concern, that she would last those 4.5 hours.

Not much new here today, going to work earlier now as I will be preparing her breakfast as well, I also have to do some vacuuming and dusting today.

I have read and enjoyed all your posts.  I couldn't get on last night, either.

Yesterday was such a trial for me.  My friend Pat went with me to take Beth for the MRIs, and without her, I'm not sure how we would have made it through the day.

The MRI place is in a shopping strip mall, and there were only two young gals there, one of whom due to give birth in two days, so she couldn't do any lifting.  That left me and the other one to lift Beth.  It just about did me in, and I am still hurting.  I've been having so much trouble with my right arm, anyway.  Then, as soon as we got her on the table, Beth began to cry and scream that her legs hurt.  We tried everything we could think of; even called her doctor here.  Finally got her settled a little bit, they started the machine..........Pat and I were allowed to stay with her, after leaving watches, cell phones, purses, etc. in the other room.  Beth's doctor had given her a double dose of sedative, plus another pill, to try to enable her to relax during the procedure.

Beth would be still for a little while, then start to cry and tense up and trying not to scream...it was horrible.  She asked me to sing to her, as that has always calmed and comforted her.  So Pat and I sang to her, every praise chorus that we could think of (minds went blank, of course) and we prayed and prayed, while I stroked and rubbed Beth's feet.  Finally, the girls came in and said it's no use, the pictures aren't good, we might as well stop.  They recommended taking her to a hospital and putting her out to get it done.   :'(

We went to eat at a Chinese buffet, then to Goodwill, where Beth found several nice tee shirts and a couple pairs of pants.  Might as well shop there, since her clothes keep disappearing.  :(  Then to Walmart, and when we finally came home, I was beyond tired.  I collapsed and waited for Darrel to get home, cried on his shoulder, etc.  (hank God for supportive husbands!!)

Anyhow, after a night of walking the floor, praying and crying over Beth and because of arm pain, you can probably guess I am not feeling very energetic today.  And I still feel weepy.  I hate this!

In the night, I got up and played the piano for a while, that took my mind off the problems and comforted me.  Plus I got two calls from my youngest daughter, and am delighted to have her back after a period of estrangement that lasted several years.  So God is good.  Thanks for letting me vent.  And sorry for the "down" post.

Oh, Janet, Janet, Janet ...  :'(  I so wish I were able to personally put my arms around you.  I prayed, as I did for my daughter once, that Jesus would hug you for me.  What a trying ordeal for you as well as for Beth ... I don't know how you manage as well as you do, but I do know our Father knows all about it and He is right there with you to comfort and support and....yes, hold you in His arms of love when you are too exhausted to even think.  I agree with you about having a supportive husband whose shoulder you can cry on.

Take care and TRY to get some rest today.

Janet ~ As I read your ordeal with Beth and the MRI, I remembered the Transitional Care Unit telling us..Kaye Don, Ivalou and I..that we could take Mom to get the staples out from her hysterectomy.  Mom hadn't stood on her feet for a few weeks.  We got her in the car find.  Out of the car.  But when we were told to go in the examination room and for her to get UP on this little examination table...well, even I would have a hard time.  Too tall to sit on so I would have to step on the little step, turn around and sit.  Well, we tried our best to pick up Mom and put her there but she literally slide out of our arms.  So she got the staples out while lying on the floor.  Then we couldn't get her up...an emergency team was called.  They picked her up and put her in the wheel chair but they couldn't transport her across the county line so we waited another two hours for an ambulance that would.  So what I am getting at...would the help at the nursing home try to transport her on their own and get her into an MRI machine?  I doubt it.  Grrr!  Just know you tried your best but sometimes your best just isn't good enough.  Now you know not to try to do that again.  And I am so sorry that Beth had to endure that 'torture' also.

I got my bottle gas tank filled again...hadn't been filled since January or February.  And they painted the tank.  Now I have a shiny silver tank in my back yard!  (And a smaller bank account!)

It's a scorcher out there today.  83° right now.  Not a cloud in the sky but they are saying a possiblity of rain this afternoon.  All that will do if it isn't very much rain is make the humidity unbearable.

I still don't think I am completely back from my surgery.  All I want to do is sleep!  I didn't get out of bed this morning until 10am!!!!!!!!!

Janet I am thinking along the same lines as Etta Sue, I don't know how the nursing homes are in your state but here We have never had to transport one of my  clients outside the nursing facility for any kind of appointments. The facility handled all the Dr etc appointments themselves. we could go along or meet them there. They even took Ruth to her foot Doctors office to have her toenails cut and feet examined because they thought she had a broken toe that was just deformed from birth. Perhaps it is time for you to let  the professional do their job before you injure yourself any more than you already have. If there was no family at all to help Beth, they would have to do it themselves anyway. Something for you to check out, please Janet take care of  yourself.

I got to Ruth's this morning and she wasn't there, I just missed the ambulance taking her to the ER. There was nothing wrong with her, She was confused about what she was supposed to be doing today. Her talking watch is broken so she didn't know that it was time for me to be there anyway, so she called her lifeline, it took the hospital 3½ hours to get her released.

Oh Janet I am so sorry for all these trials.

Ettta Sue if you are sleeping, that means the body is requiring it.  So sister sleep!

It was 95 up here today.  John has headded to Drummondville in Quebec today.  Thankfully he has air conditioning.

I am out of here, I am taking the girls swimming.

I'm so sorry, Janet, to read of the hassle and turmoil you went through.  It's just awful, I know.

So happy that you could get some comfort from the piano.

I agree, Pat. Often I've found comfort in music when it seemed I was at wits' end.

Oh, how sad to hear of Beth's continued problems. I know it surely breaks you heart.

In the midst of this terrible problem, though, God has answered many of your heartbroken prayers for a restored relationship with your daughter.

Thank You, God!

Marilyn, you may be right - Ruth may be approaching the stage where she needs more attention than even a loving caregiver can provide.

I'll continue praying with you.

God allowed me to meet a need tonight. We had a baby shower at work and there were TONS of sandwiches remaining. For some strange reason I felt I should ask if I paid a reasonable sum, could I purchase them. Well, the lady GAVE them to me, even still on the nice huge plastic tray with a tight fitting lid, and she included all the leftover chicken nuggets and two types of dip, as well.

Those sandwiches seemed to grow in front of me - they seemed to multiply. Well, I cast about in my mind as to how to put them to really good use. So, I began to phone some of my friends at church. The first lady I called couldn't be reached - her phone was cut off. Recently I had thought her financial condition was getting a bit better, but apparently not. So, I called others until I found a way to get in touch with her. I took those sandwiches by her house, and her eyes filled with grateful tears - we cried and prayed together. And, now I know her food supplies may be boring, but she'll be provided for until her check comes in the last of this week.

Something tells me it's time for an "old fashioned" church pounding for this dear saint. Does anyone beside me know what a "pounding" is? It's an old southern country-fied way of saying that the word goes about secretly through the church and everyone brings food from home - most likely the "pound" indicates people brought a pound or more of something to fill the box. Cans - bags - things not perishable to help tide a loved one through hard times.

God is GOOD! Isn't HE.

Ruth Ann

Hello to muthreja2007 in Bombay!   We had a friend named Yogi who was originally from Bombay - he was a very sweet man.

Talk about traffic - we had big problems yesterday getting to the mountains, daughter drove grandson for two weeks of hockey camp.  Construction on the way up and a five-vehicle crash including two trailers on the west side of the Eisenhower tunnel - stopped so often, 40 plus vehicles overheated, and it took us almost three hours extra to get down the pass.

I finished choosing and buying all the fabric for daughter's quilt top - it wasn't on sale, of course.   We are trying to have two grands with us for a week and that is almost impossible with their schedules.  Don's tests show much improvement in so many things Much to be thankful for!

In reading the ARP - magazine, and it is so annoying when they focus on an actor, divorced, with three adult children, one other child somewhere and now a baby and the ninny is  52 years old.  How silly our society is to adore these very odd people.

Janet:  My heart goes out to you.  What a terrible ordeal for you and Beth.

Carol

Ruth Ann:  What a perfect story!!!  You were very thoughtful and kind.

Thanks for sharing that, Ruth Ann.

Ruth Ann That was listening.  I love stories like that .  They lift us up.   There is so much we can and often do complain about.  But when we look at our blessings they quickly make us ashamed to whine.

I have a dog here who has been sucky all day.  She has been laying in a chair with her head on my knee.  I wasn't able to figure her out, till John came up with the reason.  She is missing the babies!  Our chicks were her babies and she is missing them.   I always thought cocker spaniels were bird dogs!  She thinks she is the mama of them!

The girls had a blast in the water.  I have told them if the weather is as hot tomorrow as it was today and they get their rooms done up quickly we will spend the better part of the day at Wolf Lake.  They are raring to go.

Well I am off, cool shower for me and to bed early again.
Have a good restful night folks, Janet I continue to pray for you and Beth. As well Etta Sue I am praying for you too.

I know there are other needs here,  I pray for those as well.

Love JudyB
