Morning Devotional...

Where the Battle Is Won.

In Touch Magazine April 2010.

Early Light

At the cross,
God's justice and love
Were both satisfied:
Jesus Christ paid
our sin-debt so
that we might be
forgiven and live
eternally with Him.

Matthew 26:36-46

The garden of Gethsemane on the Mount of Olives was one of the Lord's favorite places to pray throughout His earthly ministry (Luke 22:39).  But believers remember it best as the site of a great spiritual battle.  The story of Jesus pleading with His Father is extremely meaningful to Christians, and one of the reasons is that the Lord looked so human.  From the gospel's description, we can see that Jesus, the God man, experienced fear, anxiety, and dread as He prayed.  In other words, He reacted to His imminent ordeal with feelings we can relate to and understand.

Satan taunts believers by telling them they can't be like Jesus because he is God.  But He was God cloaked in human flesh, which means that He experienced the world as we do. Yet He won every spiritual and life battle he faced.  The secret of His success is what He did at Gethsemane. He secluded Himself and prayed until His will was fully surrendered to the Father.  The battle was won on His knees.

Jesus left the garden a prisoner, but at the same time, He walked out a winner. He accepted God's will for His life, even though pain was a guarantee.  Our Savior had been called to die, and He knew that the potential blessings and consequences were all in his Father's hands.

Suppose!

Suppose that Christ had not been born
That far away Judea morn.
Suppose that God, whose mighty hand
Created worlds, had never planned
A way for man to be redeemed.
Suppose the wise men only dreamed
That guiding star whose light still glows
Down through the centuries. Suppose
Christ never walked here in men's sight,
Our blessed Way, and Truth, and Light.

Suppose He counted all the cost,
And never cared that we were lost,
And never died for you and me,
Nor shed His blood on Calvary
Upon the shameful cross.  Suppose
That having died, He never rose,
And there was none with power to save
Our souls from death beyond the grave!
O far away Judea morn,
Suppose that Christ had not been born!

JudyB:  Thank you for devotions.  I like the message of "Suppose...."

We had company come a day early but it worked well here.  They just came for the day and we took them and their unemployed son to a nearby state park so they could look for birds - they are Birders - and had a great time.  Temperature was almost a little too warm this afternoon.

Yesterday, we were confronted by a lone javalina - they weigh up to 60 lbs. and can bite and charge people.  Don had a chair between him and the animal and I headed for the kitchen door when the pig looking animal came back to us much too close for comfort.  Our friend had grabbed her dog and went indoors before me.  I think they did get a picture but have not seen it yet.

I think we will have to go home to rest.

I wonder if anyone comes into Thoughts tonight if you could be praying for John.  He has called in flat out panic as he has lost his wallet.  It has his license, health card, and bank cards in it.  All this can be replaced, but he is really upset.  Could you pray that our Lord's Peace fill him and he knows God's presence at this time.  He is on his way to Montreal.  He has never had this happen before.  Thank you

Judy, I will be praying.  It can be a very stressful situation to lose your wallet, even though you know the contents can be replaced.

Carol, my goodness!  In your own yard?  How did you finally get rid of that javalina?

I was wondering what a javalina was.. This is what my search came up with!  Scary animal.

Thank you for the devotional Judy.  I think my prayer life has gone off the rails lately.  My job is getting me down - thanks for the encouragement.  Will be praying about the lost wallet.

I had never heard of a javalina before Carol and I hope I never bump into one.  The photograph JudyB shared is a bit scary.  I am glad that it didn't charge at anyone.

I hope everyone has a good day today.

Anthony.

Good morning.  The sun is peeking out today after a day of rain yesterday!  Suppose to be warmer.  I guess that is what the sun does...warm things up!   :idiot:

I have the trash taken and I am now waiting on the minister to call and come look at Easter videos on my DSL.  I have to leave to take Ivalou at 1pm but I think I could let Pastor Steve shut the laptop lid and lock the door before he leaves!

Kitty and I went to Kokomo to the Awards dinner.  So many nice photos.  I didn't understand the judging.  So many of the blue ribbons were out of focus shots!  The Judge's Choice was a red cardinal flying toward the photographer with snow in the background.  The wings were a blur and the only thing in focus was his yellow bill.  If the card hadn't have said 'Cardinal', I would have wondered what it was!  Kitty and I were only there a half hour and we got her photos and a friends photos.  Then we went to Long John Silver's for a Diet Root beer.  A & W was in the same building!

I didn't feel up to par all weekend.  Then I realized this morning, I didn't have coffee both days.  Too much caffeine makes me not sleep.  Too little makes me fuzzy headed!!   :uglystupid:

Hi everyone.  It is a pretty day here in Georgia after a day with tornado warnings.  We had no problem and very little rain yesterday.  I did not feel up to par yesterday and am taking it easy today.  I will attend my men's luncheon at noon.  After all we have to eat.  :)

Judy, thanks for the devotional, it is a good one.

Carol, glad you escaped the javelina and think it must have been a very frightening experience.

Hi everyone.  It's getting towards tea-time here in England.  The weather is terrible with the rain pouring down.  It's a day off today and I feel ill.  My legs are aching and my chest is aching too.  A lot of people have the flu - I hope I don't come down with it.

Etta Sue, I am glad you were able to attend a photo competition even though you didn't agree with the judges.  It must have been nice to see the different photos.

Larry, I hope you enjoy your men's luncheon even though you may still be a little off-colour.  It sounds like you a part of a great church community with the different activities that you take part in.  Have a good day.

I purchased two items from Amazon over the weekend and can't wait for them to come.  One is an internet radio.  I would love to tune into some of the Christian stations you have in America (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002VEN10O/ref=oss_product (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002VEN10O/ref=oss_product)).  When it comes perhaps you could give some advice on what are the best ones.  The other item is a pocket video recorder.  I have often wanted to record some of the activities that go on in church - children singing etc.  I hope that I will be able to do that now. (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001SN72TK/ref=oss_product (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001SN72TK/ref=oss_product)).

Anyway,

God bless all.

Thank you for your kind words.

Yes, Judy, I am watching closely for any kind of infection... Praying your husband finds his wallet and if not let the peace that surpasses all human understanding fill him so he may contact the proper people to correct the lost of his wallet.

So far, I was told that the owner of the dog has all the documentation ready and it was all up to date. So sad to think your little one went through that side effect of the antibiotics..really got me down.

I felt so helpless and couldn't work because of the lost of the use of the hand, so ANTHONY, I do know where you are coming from... It takes so much out of us when we are down and that is when we need HIS guidance more and more...Hard to pray and wait for results when you are feeling low.

My prayers for you to remembering our Heavenly Father is so very good and is there--never leaving us no matter how the devil makes us feel like HE has left us.

In today's message above you will see In Touch Magazine, I LOVE, LOVE  Charles Stanley's messages..They bring me out of my "own human world" and puts me back to see and hear what GOD wants in my life...Prayers that you can get his messages and they help you as much as they help me.

Praise the Lord, My mom celebrated her 95 th birthday and still just as sharp and active as ever.

Talk to you later

Dear Ones,

If you have a few minutes; I posted in Manna for the Soul, an inspirational that helps me understand why Our Heavenly Father sent HIS only son to die on the cross for our sins....It pains me so to know that HE suffered so for me, a lowly sinner but
The Heart of the Cross makes me understand it a little better.

Have a Blessed Holiday

I have just returned from dropping Happy off at the groomer for his shampoo and shaved down. In the 3 days he has had the thyroid pills he sure has perked up and seems so eager to go outside to do his business, whereas before I had to coax him out and sometimes he didn't even do anything.

Today I have to get another tutorial  written up in word and transfer it to my website, This time it is a frame tutorial. I have it in notepad right now.

Well I'm outta here for my Yoga class, TTYL

John's wallet has been located.  Everything is intact, he only needed to replace his drivers license.  I have it in front of me now.  God is good.

A javelina is a wild hog; same as a peccary.  I heard recently that we now have some in Kansas; seems they are migrating here from Arkansas and Texas.  Darrel's brother-in-law hunts them in Texas.  I guess they are good to eat.  Mean rascals, though!  And UGLY.

We had a great night with our friends, they stayed too late, though.  Finally someone asked what time I had to get up to go to work and when I said "five" they were gone in a flash!  I am tired today, but had a little nap earlier, so I will be okay.

Good news about John's wallet.  That would upset any of us!  (The loss, not the return.  ;))

Good evening:    Dealing with the loss of a loved one has been very difficult you get a few good days then along comes the bad.
Today I went to yet another funeral this time a 95yr young lady went home to be with her twin sister. It was a very christian message praise the Lord for that.
Then our daughter rec'd a very very sad e-mail from a very bitter cousin so sad. It was forwarded on to me but the details I will keep to myself.  I truly wish that when something like this happens that with help this person  would be able to put it behind and move on with peace.  A time will come when it will be too late to make amends.

Last Saturday I made a large batch of speg. sauce yummy and yes enough to give to my aunt.

The evening is coming to a close for another day.

:)  Hi to all I know it very late and am thankful that Johns wallet showed up Judy.  Praise the Lord for the answer to the prayers.

Carol.:   I have also never heard of this animal but had seen pictures of it before but did not know that was its name.  Very scary looking  thing but God put it here for a reason.

We just had a wonderful weekend with most of our kids and our beautiful grandkids.  It is always so much fun to see them and to watch them together and they just love being together they will both be three years old this year and its hard to believe that they are that old already :)

Please continue to pray that my wife Noreen will get some relief in the pain area so that she can enjoy life a bit better.  Thank you.  God bless you all and Have a wonderful up and coming weekend and thank the Lord for all his Blessing.   Gord and Noreen. :cp:

Hi everyone.  Still a few minutes before I will leave for coffee.  We are suppose to have several really nice days, even getting into the 80s toward the end of the week.

A friend gave me a coupon for a Blockbuster movie so I used it yesterday to rent "The Blind Side".  As others have said it is a very nice movie and Pat and I enjoyed it last evening.  I have it until Saturday and will share it with a couple of friends so they to can enjoy it.

My schedule is light today.  I think I will look at the old computer Stacey had to see if I can get it to work.

We had a call yesterday from my cousin, who lives in Denver, but who has had to travel to Florida on family business.  They are going to stop by here tomorrow morning sometime for a short visit on their way back to Denver.  We would have liked to have them spend the night but I understand they have a long drive ahead of them to get home.

Judy, sure glad that John's billfold has been found.  I am sure you both are very relieved.

Marilyn, glad to read that your dog is perking up.

I appreciate all the postings but will not comment on each today.

NEW CALVARY

So one by one they turned away from Him,
Until He stood alone on Pilate's floor;
A tired young Man, yet stalwart, straight, and slim,
Whose heart was broken, yet whose visage bore
Such depths of peace the rulers paused, afraid,
And murmured, "Tell the sin this Man has done?"
(In all Jerusalem none came to aid.)
The cry rang back, "He says He is God's Son!"

He says He is God's son. . . Oh, where were they,
The halt , the deaf, the blind He had made well?
Why did they not come running swift to say,
"We are His proof!" They had so much to tell!
I censure them - and yet because of me
Christ kneels alone sometime in Calvary.

When I Survey the Wondrous Cross  (http://www.christianphotographers.com/sounds/when-i-survey-the-wondrous-cross.mid)
(Click to hear music)

May I never boast except
in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Galatians 6:14

Words: Isaac Watts, Hymns and Spiritual Songs, 1707. Charles Wesley reportedly said he would give up all his other hymns to have written this one.
Music: "Hamburg," Lowell Mason, 1824; first appeared in The Boston Handel and Haydn Society Collection of Church Music, third edition, 1825

When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride.

Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,
Save in the death of Christ my God!
All the vain things that charm me most,
I sacrifice them to His blood.

See from His head, His hands, His feet,
Sorrow and love flow mingled down!
Did e'er such love and sorrow meet,
Or thorns compose so rich a crown?

His dying crimson, like a robe,
Spreads o'er His body on the tree;
Then I am dead to all the globe,
And all the globe is dead to me.

Were the whole realm of nature mine,
That were a present far too small;
Love so amazing, so divine,
Demands my soul, my life, my all.

Thank the Lord that John found his wallet!

JudyB:  Nice of you to search for the javalina picture.  Yes, that was it and now they are heading towards Janet's place.

Gord:  May Noreen be blessed with pain relief.  Having a weekend with the kids and grands - isn't that a wonderful gift.

Ruth:  Our friends were talking about the same situation as your daughter has concerning a cousin's letter.  Sometimes people's thinking is like it is coming from outer space and it just isn't understandable.  I hope you are doing well.

Marilyn:  Where is your website?

Joyce:  Thinking of you praying for pain release.  I am looking forward to Easter morning.

Larry:  I hope that you feel better each and every day.  It is nice that you can meet so many friends for coffee and lunches.  Hi to Pat!  Is she sewing anything?  I must get home and make a binding for a quilt.

Anthony:  Try google for Christian Radio - there is one Celtic station you may enjoy.

We are anxious to get home in time for Easter.  Part of the family will gather - one DIL always goes to Texas to be with her mother & takes the grandson with her at this time of the year.  Everyone is too old for egg and candy hunts.  Just put some chocolate out there and I would go for the Easter hunt too.

Easter has always been more important the Christmas as far I feel about our religion.  What could be more of a gift than Jesus suffering just for each and every one of us?  Giving thanks for cyber knowing all of you.

Forgiveness is one of the hardest things for us to do.  So often we think we forgive for the other person, but what we fail to realize is that we need to forgive to free ourselves.  I always ask myself... "Would I want my Lord to forgive me the way I forgive?"  I can never forgive to our Lord's extent of forgiveness, but I can forgive out of obedience to Him.  "Forgive us our sin, as we forgive those that sin against us."

What a busy day so far.  The minister came this morning and we found 4 Easter videos that he liked.  He left and I started downloading them and found that I had to pay for one of them.  Then in order to open it, I had to pay for Quicktime 7 Pro.  Then I couldn't figure out how to download it.  I called Apple Store and they gave me a number to call in Texas.  Seems that Quicktime 7 doesn't change but I have Quicktime 7 Pro now.  You would think that if you pay for something, you would at least see a difference.  But now I have the 4 videos on a CD so the pastor may play them on his computer to figure out which one to use in which service.  Then I have to take my flash drive to upload them at church.

Now I have to get ready to go to Beef and Boards and see the musical 'Hello, Dolly!'  Should be another fun night!

Hope I don't fall asleep.  I am tired.

We had some fun tonight at suppertime.  The guy across the road had a burn going without a permit!   LOL he denied it of course..  When we burn off the old grass it is to be done with a burn permit and after 5:00 pm.  Someone call the fire department, and 6 fire trucks show up all because a very little patch of grass was burning!  Things are different up here burning is allowed......with a permit.  Kass and I got a good laugh out of this.

Is it me or am I right that time seems to go so fast?  Is it because I am getting older or I am having fun?   ::) Do you all realize that a fourth of 2010 is almost over?  Where does the time go?

'Hello, Dolly' was fun.  Not what I was expecting.  Dolly had a lot of script to memorize and most of which didn't relate to each other.  A lot of facts, lists and such.  The singing, music and dancing was fantastic as well as the food.

Today is rehab again.  I need to find time to take some things to church before Good Friday evening service.  Sometimes I wish I had a key to the church...then I could go anytime.  But I don't so I have to call and go in the mornings if someone is there.

Bright and sunny in sunny Indiana.  Suppose to get in the 70's today and higher tomorrow!  Yeah!  I see little buds on my Forsythia bush!  And others have daffodils around their homes.  Love it!

Beneath the Cross of Jesus  (http://www.christianphotographers.com/sounds/beneath-the-cross-of-jesus.mid)
(Click to hear music)

May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Galatians 6:14

Words: Elizabeth C. Clephane, 1868; published posthumously in the Family Treasury, a Scottish Presbyterian magazine, in 1872, titled "Breathing on the Border." The magazine's editor, W. Arnot, wrote: These lines express the experiences, the hopes and the longings of a young Christian lately released. Written on the very edge of life, with the better land fully in view of faith, they seem to us footsteps printed on the sands of time, where these sands touch the ocean of Eternity. These footprints of one whom the Good Shepherd led through the wilderness into rest, may, with God's blessing, contribute to comfort and direct succeeding pilgrims.

Music: "St. Christopher," Frederick C. Maker, in the Bristol Tune Book, 1881

Beneath the cross of Jesus I fain would take my stand,
The shadow of a mighty rock within a weary land;
A home within the wilderness, a rest upon the way,
From the burning of the noontide heat, and the burden of the day.

O safe and happy shelter, O refuge tried and sweet,
O trysting place where Heaven's love and Heaven's justice meet!
As to the holy patriarch that wondrous dream was given,
So seems my Savior's cross to me, a ladder up to heaven.

There lies beneath its shadow but on the further side
The darkness of an awful grave that gapes both deep and wide
And there between us stands the cross two arms outstretched to save
A watchman set to guard the way from that eternal grave.

Upon that cross of Jesus mine eye at times can see
The very dying form of One Who suffered there for me;
And from my stricken heart with tears two wonders I confess;
The wonders of redeeming love and my unworthiness.

I take, O cross, thy shadow for my abiding place;
I ask no other sunshine than the sunshine of His face;
Content to let the world go by to know no gain or loss,
My sinful self my only shame, my glory all the cross.

HI everyone.  We are awaiting the arrival of my cousin and his wife.  She called from about an hour away about 45 minutes ago.  I don't think they will be here very long but we will enjoy their visit.  Pat has lunch prepared.

Still not feeling up to par so will take it easy today.  I have choir tonight but at this point not sure I will go.  I hate to miss as this is the last rehearsal before our special Easter music.

My desktop computer crashed this morning.  It says there are hardware problems.

Carol, Pat is still quilting a little bit at a time.  In about 3 weeks she is going to a quilting retreat that will last 4 days.  I am going with her and will enjoy the peace and quiet of the mountains.  It should be nice up there this time of year.  It is at the Georgia Retreat Center.  We have been there once before.

Ouchie!  How my feet do hurt!!  :(  I think I need to go buy another new pair of shoes.  Usually the four hour shift doesn't bother me, but this week, by the time I get off, I am wiped out.  Ugh.

Darrel had some alarm work to do in Liberal today, so he isn't here just now.

I was just about done at work when they brought Beth in.  She wanted some breakfast, and the cook on her neighborhood won't cook anything after 9:00.  So I made her pancakes, bacon, sausage and orange juice.  And fed it to her.  So that was nice, as I had already taken care of all the residents on the 300 Neighborhood where I am working.

I guess I will go to the senior center and then come home and take a nap!

Carol, thanks for the tip on finding Christian radio stations.  The radio has been shipped and I should be getting it shortly.

I've had a better week at work and feeling pretty good.  The boss spoke to me today and said they have another client for me to go to starting next week, but I am losing a client too as she is going into a home.  I will miss seeing her, we have some nice chats together.

Larry, I hope that you enjoy the visit from your cousing and I do trust that you will soon be feeling better.

Janet, you seem very busy today.  I have not kept up-to-date on Beth.  She is surely blessed with loving parents - I do trust that things are not too tough for her.  God bless you and your family.

Judy, thanks for the hymn.  I haven't sung it in ages, it was nice to hear it again.  One hymn that has been on my mind is "It is no secret what God can do - what He's done for others He can do for you" - have you the words for that?  I sure would like to hear the music for it.

Etta Sue, I agree that time does seem to be going so fast.  I tried to count the number of shopping days to Christmas, but gave it up as a bad job.  I am glad that you enjoyed the musical.

Ruth, I know what you mean about dealing with the loss of a loved one.  I still have times when I feel devasted; and it's been nearly 2 years now.  God bless and thanks for the post.

Anyway, I will have to go and have something to eat now.  I hope everyone continues to have a good day.

Anthony.

Lyrics: Stuart Hamblen

The chimes of time ring out the news,
Another day is through.
Someone slipped and fell
Was that someone you?
You may have longed for added strength,
Your courage to renew.
Do not be disheartened,
For I have news for you.

Refrain

It is no secret what God can do.
What He's done for others, He'll do for you.
With arms wide open, He'll pardon you.
It is no secret what God can do.

There is no night for in His light
You never walk alone.
Always feel at home,
Wherever you may go.
There is no power can conquer you
While God is on your side.
Take Him at His promise,
Don't run away and hide.

Refrain
It is no secret what God can do.
What He's done for others, He'll do for you.
With arms wide open, He'll pardon you.
It is no secret what God can do.

Carol I thought  had been here and posted  my website,  It's HERE (http://sites.google.com/site/mycreationsinpsp/) There isn't much on it yet.

It is too cold  today to take the dogs out for their walks especially since Happy has been shaved down. Poor old dog has been cold, I put a sweatshirt on him yesterday and today he is wearing on of my T shirts. I have been trying to keep him here in the computer room where it is warmer than the rest of the house.

Janet you never did tell us the results of all those biopsies that Darrell had before he  went to Vegas. How did those turn out.

Larry sorry to hear you are still not feeling well.

I am trying to get  things done around here before I leave on Friday I still have to  get a card and Gift card for Forest. Gilbert said not to give him cash because he would go down the street and spend it on candy. Kmart is just about the only store we have in common, unless I went to Macy's of some of the mall stores. NOT!!!

I will be leaving for California  about noon thirty on Friday and arriving there about 4:30 or 5PM. I will be staying at Willa's while  I am there. I will return hom after church on Sunday. Hopefully I will be here by 6PM or  before.

Very windy here today - the car is packed and all we have to do is visit one last time with good friends then head out.  I cleaned as we packed so this place looks better than when we arrived - a very nice landlady though and we enjoyed visiting with her.

Tomorrow is Maundy Thursday and we will miss service and sure do not think we will make it home by Friday night's service.

Larry:  The retreat sounds very special and I imagine shrubs and flowers will be blooming in Georgia.  Enjoy your respite.

Marilyn:  The Dream Frame is especially striking.

Janet:  Sending prayers for you, Darell and Beth.

Wishing all a blessed Easter.

Anthony, Thanks for letting me know that I am not alone.

Marilyn, Safe driving and enjoy your little vacation with the family

I went to see the Dr. yet again and he wants to see me again in 2 wks.

We have been having lovely weather, the small tomato plants were put out to enjoy the sun but looking at them it seems to be a little to early. Something I do not like doing, but I will put a plastic over on my dining room table and keep them in the only right spot in the house. Yes I will watch them grow.

About the nice sunny days in the sheltered areas there is still snow and a town not to far north of us still has ice on their large pond (shallow lake)

Janet It was wonderful of you to prepare a special breakfast for Beth but I bet you would do the same for any resident in need.

We never ask about your mom how is she these days?

Larry & Al, Do take care of yourselves.

Have a great evening.   Ruth

Marilyn, I guess you missed the post in which I praised God for Darrel's biopsies all being negative for cancer.  God is so good!  Enjoy your trip.

Ruth, yes, Beth still likes Mom's cooking.  And I do cook each resident's breakfast to order!  The other gals just fix them whatever they (cooks) choose, but  I take their coffee and water, and ask them what they feel like eating.  They all like it when I am on duty.  ;)  :)

Anthony, it is good you are getting another client as you finish with one.  I'm glad you enjoy your work.  I like "It is No Secret" too.  That is one I learned many years ago.

Larry, hope you had a nice visit with your cousin.  Even if a short one!

I finally got my second wind, but am sure glad I am not working every day.  I went and did another special scrapbook page today, this one for Easter.  Now I need some special photos to use on it.

I need to decide what else to cook to go with the spiral cut ham for Easter.  Diane, Jeff and Abby are coming, and I will go bring Beth out, too.

Good night, all!

Anyone for  :coffee:

I do not know how it was in your area but March came in like a lamb and went out the same way according to the news yesterday we had no snow fall in the month as well I know it was not that way in other areas.

As for today it is April fools day, a fun morning for the children to play little tricks, perhaps you tied your shoes in a knot or even forgot to wear your glasses.

Now I must move on to do whatever needs done.      Ruth

April Fool!!

What a busy morning.  Unproductive at the time.  I took movies on the Flash drive to upload at church and then they didn't work there.  So I came home to make a DVD of them.  It would almost be done burning and a window would come up saying...Unspecified Error.  I did burn one but it wouldn't work on a DVD player...only in a computer.  Then I discovered that the same movies wouldn't work on my Sunday Plus on my computer unless I would drag them to Sunday Plus instead of installing.  Hopefully that will work at church also.

Ivalou has company...her daughter, Jo, is here from Ohio.  I went over to visit but they were gone!  Will check back later.

I am mentally bushed right now.  I haven't even read my morning devotions yet!

DOWN FROM HIS GLORY (http://christianphotographers.com/sounds/downfromhisglory.mid)
(Click to hear music)

Down from His glory, ever living story,
My God and Savior came, and Jesus was His name;
Born in a manger to His own a stranger,
A man of sorrows, tears and agony!

Chorus
Oh how I love Him!  How I adore Him!
My breath, my sunshine, my all in all!
The great Creator became my Savior,
And all God's fullness dwelleth in Him!

What condescension, bringing us redemption,
That in the dead of night, not one faint hope in sight,
God gracious, tender laid aside His splendor,
Stooping to woo, to win, to save my soul!

Chorus
Oh how I love Him!  How I adore Him!
My breath, my sunshine, my all in all!
The great Creator became my Savior,
And all God's fullness dwelleth in Him!

Without reluctance, flesh and blood His substance,
He took the form of man, revealed the hidden plan;
O glorious myst'ry sacrifice of Calv'ry!
And now I know He is the great "I AM"!

Chorus
Oh how I love Him!  How I adore Him!
My breath, my sunshine, my all in all!
The great Creator became my Savior,
And all God's fullness dwelleth in Him!

A question was asked on Facebook, was the suffering of our Lord necessary?  Lets discuss that here.  Was it?  or would beheading, or a sword into the heart have sufficed?  I know what I believe....what do you believe.

Judy, re the question on Facebook, all I can say is,

Hebrews 9:22
And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

It had to be Crucifixion as it was the way God planned it.  Sometimes, it annoys me when questions like this are asked that suggest that maybe things could have been done differently but we must always remember that our God is a Perfect God and He planned it all and it's His way.  Through Christ's shed blood, we are gloriously saved...and there is no other way to get to Heaven.

Hello Everyone!

Life has been so difficult since last October when I injured my shoulder and arm.  I haven't been back to Virginia since Nov. 2 when I drove home with it.  Lots of doctors' visits, etc. but maybe it might be a wee bit better but not sure.  It's very painful to type.

It's so nice to read up on your posts and see what you are all doing.

Thanks Judy for the lovely hymns.  I've played them all!

Hello Pat, nice to hear from you but I am sorry about your injury.  I do pray that you will have a complete recovery.

It is good, I think, to question sometimes why things happen.  I am reading on the atonement at the moment .  Looking at it from one angle in particular, I can see why Christ had to die.  My crimes have been so severe that a God of Justice could do nothing else other than sentence me to death.  Although He is a God of mercy He could never undermine the law that condemns me.  So he sent Christ to die.  The law, that demands my death, is still upheld but because of His loving mercy He came Himself to take my punishment upon Himself.  This, really, is why Christ had to suffer.  When we really understand this it will cause us to serve Him out of love for all He has done for us.

I should be in bed now (must be up at 5.30am) but I cann't get to sleep.  I must try though, so God bless all and see y'all in the morning.

Anthony.

Pat, I am working tomorrow, too.  Then will go back to the home to see their little hat parade and see whose hats won; then they are having a Good Friday program.

Anthony, I have to get up at 5 in order to be at work at 6, so I know how it feels!

When I really think of all Jesus suffered for me, it is so humbling and so hard to really take it in.  What a Savior!  What a God!  We could never, ever do anything to earn even a crumb of the mighty, overcoming love He sheds on us daily!  Thank you, Jesus!  Thank you, God!

I went to the store today, so think I have all the necessary ingredients for Sunday's dinner.  Diane's family doesn't often get to come, so it will be a treat having them here for a few hours.  Neither of the boys will get to be here, though.

And now I had better get myself to bed.  G'Night!

Janet, Pat never said she luvd me loads  :'(  I am gutted  :D

I read this on a friends profile on Facebook, I thought I could share it here.

"Jesus came to earth, To show us how to live, How to put others first, How to love and how to give. He could have saved Himself, Calling angels from above, But He chose to pay our price for sin; He paid it out of love. Our Lord died on Good Friday, But the cross did not destroy His resurrection on Easter morn That fills our hearts with joy."

I am thankful that God has filled my heart with joy and taken away all of the misery.

I called Pastor Steve about the movies that I finally got to work on my laptop and if he was going to be at the church last evening to call me and I would bring what I needed and we would make sure it works.  I also copied an installer for QuickTime.  I am glad because none of the movies worked there but when I installed QuickTime again, they worked!   Now we will have sound movies for tonight, sunrise service and Easter Sunday Service.

Since I am fairly new at being a Christian...why is it called Good Friday when it was pain and suffering for our Christ before He died on the cross for the sins of mankind?  It was good for all of us but not for Christ.  Oh, he knew he was going to die for us...all God's plan.  But...why is it called 'Good Friday' today?  Also...where did the name 'Easter' come from?  Why not Resurrection Sunday?  Just wondering.

I did get to visit with Jo and Lydia yesterday.  Always good to see Ivalou's family.

The phone woke me this morning.  A classmate wanted to bring her 'All About Me' which should have been turned in March 31.  She lives about a block away and just found the time today to bring it to me.   ::)  And then she said 10am and it was almost 10:15...and then she was going to a funeral.  Dare I say that she procrastinates?

I have windows open.  I cleaned my air-purifier and my AC/Heat Pump filter.  Now I am all ready for a typical Indiana spring day...furnace on in the morning...turn it off...open windows and let the warm breezes in...then shut windows and turn on the A/C...all typical for Indiana!  And all in a 15 hour period!  I am more cold-natured this year so maybe I won't have to have the A/C on so early this year.   $$$ savings!!

Tonight is our Good Friday service at church.  Nothing else is planned.

My question about Easter, which nobody yet has answered to my satisfaction is this:  Didn't Jesus die on Thursday, rather than Friday?  Because the Word says He spent three days and three nights in the belly of the earth (tomb) and there are not three days and three nights between Friday afternoon and Sunday Morning.  Care to comment?

It doesn't really matter, except that I just wonder.  What matters is that Jesus suffered and died for my sins, shed His blood for me, and gave me life instead of death.  What a wonderful Savior!

Boy, I was beat after working five hours.  My feet hurt so much I would have cried if I'd thought it would help.  I took a couple Tylenol and rested a while, then got up, changed clothes and went to see the doctor who operated on my tongue.  He says it is doing really well and that the strange tingling sensation should go away in time.  Wants to see me in another month.

Then I went back to the care home for the hat parade.  It was fun; one Chaplain's husband sang "In Your Easter Bonnet" to the ladies, they gave prizes to the top three hats as they were judged.  Then Grace Baptist Church did a really nice Good Friday service for all of us.  They have a wonderful and talented group of young people who sang and played violins and bass violins and cellos.  Great service and I felt I'd been to church!  :)  Then refreshments of cut-up fruit, cheese and crackers were served to everyone.

God bless you all.

Etta Sue, I heard the answer on the radio today, as I was driving to Yountville to see about Tom.  The pastor said "good" is an archaic form of the word "Holy" .. so it would be more correct to say Holy Friday ... This is considered the Holy Week, so that makes sense.

I am sorry for the brief post again.  I have read all of the messages and was interested to read the questions and answers about 'Good Friday' and Christ rising on the third day.  Thanks for that.

I've got tomorrow off, so I am chilling now and relaxing a bit.  I've got my Internet radio working - it was a doddle to set up.  I've got an Italian Gospel station and Transworld Radio in English.  I am enjoying it a lot.  The Italian station read from "una parola per oggi" which is the word for the day calendar that our church uses - amazing.

We had a business meeting at church yesterday. Although the congregation is only small, it has somehow managed to pay off 50% of the mortgage in only three years.  Everyone was astounded when the accountant read it out.  The Lord really does provide.

Anyway, God bless and look forward to reading everyone's posts later on.

GOD IS SO GOOD!!!  Just a couple of hours after I had posted my question, I watched Hal Lindsay's program, and he talked about that very thing!!  God will answer our sincere questions!  The verse about three days and three nights is found in Matthew 12:38-40.  The reason we have assumed that the crucifixion was on Friday was because of the Sabbath.  Well, it was Passover, and Friday was a Sabbath, the Feast of Unleavened Bread.  Then Saturday was the regular Sabbath, so they had two Sabbaths, back-to-back.  The crucifixion really WAS on THURSDAY!!  That question has niggled at me for so many years, and the answer is so simple!  I had heard it explained about the Jews counting a day as from 6 AM to 6 PM, etc., but none of it really made sense, and now I finally KNOW.  Thank you, God!!

Jeanne, what you said accounts for the days, but where is the third night?  Do you see why I was troubled by this?

Anthony, glad to hear you got your Christian radio stations you wanted.  You will enjoy those.

I will do all I can for dinner tomorrow today, then it will be easy to finish it up after church tomorrow.

I wish you all a blessed Easter, full of thanksgiving for what Jesus did for us.

Good Friday service was very touching.  We had prayer then sang songs appropriate for Good Friday.  Our theme for the sermons the last few weeks have been 'Do You See It?'  We saw a video of Christ carrying the cross through the streets.  Saw Him being beaten.  Saw Him being nailed to the cross.  Saw Him being hung on the cross.  Saw Him dying on the cross.  Saw the pain that His loved ones had when He died.  Saw Him taken down from the cross and His mother cradling Him in her arms crying.  Then we listened to music as images taken from 'Passion of the Christ' were put on the overhead screen.  The minister gave a short sermon and then we had communion.  We were told after the final prayer that we were dismissed but to leave the church quietly and not talk much until we were outside.  Very touching.  Quite an impression to 'see it'.

Today it is cloudy and gloomy.  Windy.  Only 58° right now.  Not much planned for today.  About the same as tomorrow.

I plan to go to Sunrise Service and then the elders prepare breakfast for everyone.  Then come home and change clothes and get Ivalou and go back to church.  I will bring her back home since she is going to her son's for Easter.  I don't know what I will do.  I don't have any dinner plans as of yet.  I may go back to town for some fast food instead of finding something here.

Holidays are sad for this widow.

Why a cross and not some other form of death?  One answer, one I believe is most touching, is that crucifixion was at that time considered to be the worst possible punishment, the cruelest possible death.  It was reserved for those considered the worst possible individuals.  Jesus our Lord took the place of the worst of the worst - those least deserving mercy, most deserving wrath.  He did this so that none could say they were too undeserving, to sinful, too deserving of death.  His mercy reaches ALL!

Near the Cross  (http://www.christianphotographers.com/sounds/near-the-cross.mid)
(Click to hear music)

"The angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city." Revelation 22:1-2

Words: Fanny Crosby, in Bright Jewels (New York: Biglow & Main, 1869).
Music: W. Howard Doane

Jesus, keep me near the cross,
There a precious fountain
Free to all, a healing stream
Flows from Calvary's mountain.

Refrain

In the cross, in the cross,
Be my glory ever;
Till my raptured soul shall find
Rest beyond the river.

Near the cross, a trembling soul,
Love and mercy found me;
There the bright and morning star
Sheds its beams around me.

Refrain

Near the cross! O Lamb of God,
Bring its scenes before me;
Help me walk from day to day,
With its shadows o'er me.

Refrain

Near the cross I'll watch and wait
Hoping, trusting ever,
Till I reach the golden strand,
Just beyond the river.

Refrain

Hi all.  I love the hymns that are posted up.  Many of these hymns are never used in churches in the U.K. now.  People tend to sing choruses that never seem to have as a deep a meaning somehow.

It was nice to stay in bed a little longer this morning.  I am looking forward to this morning's service.  Unfortunately we only have one service on Sunday, so will be on my own for the rest of the day.  It's nice that I can pop onto C.P. and spend some time there.

Have a blessed Easter day everyone.  If Christ had not risen we would be as all men most miserable.

Anthony.

It is still dark and early.  I woke up 20 minutes before the alarm was to ring so just got up and stayed up.

Sunrise service and then breakfast made by the elders.  Then home to change clothes and get Ivalou and back to church.  Today is resurrection day.  A happy day for mankind because their sins are already paid for by the blood of Christ.   Without Christ, our Lord and Savior, we would be miserable as Anthony just said.

He Lives  (http://www.christianphotographers.com/sounds/he-lives.mid)
(Click to hear music)

Words & Music: Alfred H. Ackley, 1887-

I serve a risen Savior, He's in the world today;
I know that He is living, whatever men may say;
I see His hand of mercy, I hear His voice of cheer,
And just the time I need Him, He's always near.

Refrain
He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today!
He walks with me and talks with me along life's narrow way.
He lives, He lives, salvation to impart!
You ask me how I know He lives?
He lives within my heart.

In all the world around me I see His loving care,
And though my heart grows weary, I never will despair;
I know that He is leading thru all the stormy blast,
The day of His appearing will come at last.

Refrain

Rejoice, rejoice, O Christian, lift up your voice and sing
Eternal hallelujahs to Jesus Christ the King!
The Hope of all who seek Him, the Help of all who find,
None other is so loving so good and king.

Refrain

HYMN HISTORY:

Rev. Alfred Ackey (1887-1960) was preaching during an evangelistic crusade. After the service he was trying to persuade a young man to give his heart to Christ, when the man said, "Why should I worship a dead Jew?" Ackey stated, "HE LIVES! I tell you, He is not dead, but lives here and now! Jesus Christ is more alive today than ever before. I can prove it by my own experience, as well as the testimony of countless thousands." Later that evening the young man gave his heart to Christ. It was during this experience that Ackey wrote not only the words but also the tune for our hymn, "He Lives."

Rejoice, rejoice, O Christian, lift up your voice and sing
Eternal hallelujahs to Jesus Christ the King!
The hope of all who seek Him, the help of all who find,
None other is so loving, so good and kind.

THE EMPTY EGG

Jeremy was born with a twisted body and a slow mind. At the age of 12 he was
still in second grade, seemingly unable to learn. His teacher, Doris Miller,
often became exasperated with him. He would squirm in his seat, drool, and
make grunting noises. At other times, he spoke clearly and distinctly, as if
a spot of light had penetrated the darkness of his brain.
Most of the time, however, Jeremy just irritated his teacher.

One day she called his parents and asked them to come in for a consultation.
As the Forresters entered the empty classroom, Doris said to them, "Jeremy
really belongs in a special school. It isn't fair to him to be with younger
children who don't have learning problems. Why, there is a five year gap
between his age and that of the other students."

Mrs. Forrester cried softly into a tissue, while her husband spoke. "Miss
Miller," he said, "there is no school of that kind nearby. It would be a
terrible shock for Jeremy if we had to take him out of this school. We know
he really likes it here." Doris sat for a long time after they had left,
staring at the snow outside the window. Its coldness seemed to seep into her
soul. She wanted to sympathize with the Forresters. After all, their only
child had a terminal illness. But it wasn't fair to keep him in her class.
She had 18 other youngsters to teach, and Jeremy was a distraction.
Furthermore, he would never learn to read and
write. Why waste any more time trying?

As she pondered the situation, guilt washed over her. Here I am complaining
when my problems are nothing compared to that poor family, she thought.
Lord, please help me to be more patient with Jeremy. From that day on, she
tried hard to ignore Jeremy's noises and his blank stares. Then one day, he
limped to her desk, dragging his bad leg behind him.

"I love you, Miss Miller," he exclaimed, loud enough for the whole class to
hear. The other students snickered, and Doris' face turned red. She
stammered, "Wh-why that's very nice, Jeremy. N-now please take your seat."

Spring came, and the children talked excitedly about the coming of Easter.
Doris told them the story of Jesus, and then to emphasize the idea of new
life springing forth, she gave each of the children a large plastic egg.
"Now," she said to them, "I want you to take this home and bring it back
tomorrow with something inside that shows new life. Do you understand?"

"Yes, Miss Miller," the children responded enthusiastically-all except for
Jeremy. He listened intently; his eyes never left her face. He did not even
make his usual noises. Had he understood what she had said about Jesus'
death and resurrection? Did he understand the assignment? Perhaps she should
call his parents and explain the project to them.

That evening, Doris' kitchen sink stopped up. She called the landlord and
waited an hour for him to come by and unclog it. After that, she still had
to shop for groceries, iron a blouse, and prepare a vocabulary test for the
next day. She completely forgot about phoning Jeremy's parents.

The next morning, 19 children came to school, laughing and talking as they
placed their eggs in the large wicker basket on Miss Miller's desk. After
they completed their math lesson, it was time to open the eggs. In the first
egg, Doris found a flower. "Oh yes, a flower is certainly a sign of new
life," she said. "When plants peek through the ground, we know that spring
is here." A small girl in the first row waved her arm. "That's my egg, Miss
Miller," she called out. The next egg contained a plastic butterfly, which
looked very real. Doris held it up. "We all know that a caterpillar changes
and grows into a beautiful butterfly. Yes, that's new life, too." Little
Judy smiled proudly and said, "Miss Miller, that one is mine." Next, Doris
found a rock with moss on it. She explained that moss, too, showed life.
Billy spoke up from the back of the classroom,
"My daddy helped me," he beamed.

Then Doris opened the fourth egg. She gasped. The egg was empty. Surely it
must be Jeremy's she thought, and of course, he did not understand her
instructions. If only she had not forgotten to phone his parents. Because
she did not want to embarrass him, she quietly set the egg aside and reached
for another. Suddenly, Jeremy spoke up. "Miss Miller, aren't you going to
talk about my egg?" Flustered, Doris replied, "But Jeremy, your egg is
empty." He looked into her eyes and said softly,
"Yes, but Jesus' tomb was empty, too."

Time stopped. When she could speak again, Doris asked him, "Do you know why
the tomb was empty?" "Oh, yes," Jeremy said, "Jesus was killed and put in
there. Then His Father raised Him up."

The recess bell rang. While the children excitedly ran out to the school
yard, Doris cried. The cold inside her melted completely away.

Three months later, Jeremy died. Those who paid their respects at the
mortuary were surprised to see 19 eggs on top of his casket,
all of them empty.

If this blesses you, pass it on.

Happy Easter!

Janet, that is truly a beautiful story!  Thanks!

I have to tell y'all - I experinced what I consider to be a miracle last night.  I've been getting up 2, 3, or more times at night for the last couple of years.  Last night it was just ONE time!  Thank You, Lord!

CHRIST AROSE (http://www.christianphotographers.com/sounds/christarose.mpga)

Author:  Robert Lowry, 1826-1899
Musician:  Robert Lowry, 1826-1899

Low in the grave He lay,
Jesus, my Savior!
Waiting the coming day,
Jesus, my Lord!

Chorus:
Up from the grave He arose,
With a mighty triumph o'er His foes;
He arose a victor
From the dark domain,
And He lives forever
With His saints to reign.
He arose! He arose!
Hallelujah! Christ arose!

Vainly they watch His bed,
Jesu, my Savior!
Vainly they seal the dead,
Jesus my Lord!

Chorus:

Death cannot keep his prey,
Jesus, my Savior!
He tore the bars away,
Jesus my Lord!

Chorus:

Because He Lives (http://christianphotographers.com/sounds/becausehelives2.mid)
(Click to hear music)

Words and music by William J. Gaither
copyright 1971

"He is not here: for he is risen, as he said.
Come, see the place where the Lord lay."
Matthew 28:6

God sent His son, they called Him, Jesus;
He came to love, heal and forgive;
He lived and died to buy my pardon,
An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives!

Chorus
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!

How sweet to hold a newborn baby,
And feel the pride and joy he gives;
But greater still the calm assurance:
This child can face uncertain days because He Lives!

Chorus
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!

And then one day, I'll cross the river,
I'll fight life's final war with pain;
And then, as death gives way to vict'ry,
I'll see the lights of glory and I'll know He lives!

Chorus
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!

Many times life presents us with challenges that cause us to almost give up.  These challenges can be family related, health, financial, or social.  At times like this we need to remember Easter and the resurrection.  Because He Lives, we can all face tomorrow.  When we give ourselves over to the cross and wait on Him we will find peace and answers.  Nothing may change around us...but our heart will change.  In the long run a heart change is what is needed when the pressure is on.
