Morning Devotional...

Wile E. Coyote & the Road Runner

In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, but he who restrains his lips is wise.
Proverbs 10:19

In the classic Road Runner cartoon, Wile E. Coyote spends most of his time trying to catch the Road Runner by using products from the Acme Company, such as dehydrated boulders, jet-powered roller skates and earthquake pills. Invariably, the products wind up hurting the Coyote more than the Road Runner; once the dehydrated boulder becomes hydrated, it crushes the coyote and the earthquake pills state on their label that they are not effective on road runners.

On a more serious note, when we tear down a fellow Christian through gossip, slander and criticism, it not only affects the other person but winds up hurting us and the church as a whole, because we are not isolated from one another but rather interconnected and joined in our love for the Lord. We should be focused on building relationships with others, but when we talk about someone, put them down or criticize them, we are instead building up walls of resentment, distrust, and anger.

Let us strive to build one another up through our actions and our words as we walk through life together, one body united in Christ.

Soft and healing words gain a double victory - over ourselves and our brother.

My Goodness am I the first one here.

Janet: Congrats on the spelling bee.
Al:  Continued prayers for you and Marbeth.
Ruth Ann:  Hello
Pat: Will you be glad when you only have 2 homes to take care of?
Sarah:  Has your little bundle of joy arrived yet?

A beautiful sunny day.  I have been feeling rather down but with the stress it can be difficult to be any other way I try not to complain because the only real listener is God himself. Praise the Lord for that.

Blessings to all of you.

Hey, everybody!!  Where are you?  I posted at 6 this morning, and there have been only three since that time.

Thanks, Ruth.  And, I do "listen" and pray for you when you mention all the stress you are under.  I have no idea what it is all about, but God knows, and that's what counts.  I hope you are having a good day, and will have a wonderful week.

Pat, I love that song!  Unfortunately, I cannot get it to play.  But I can sing it anyway.

Jeanne, thanks for getting the new week started for us.

I am off to vote in the challenge!

What a day!  First us ladies ate at O'Charley's after church.  I tried to pay my bill with an Applebee's Gift Card.  Wouldn't work.

Then I went to Radio Shack for a cheap mouse for my desktop and the wireless N USB adapter for my laptop to get online at Ivalou's.  They didn't have either.

When I got back in the car, I noticed Jane left her Bible in my car.  She rode with me to O'Charley's and back to the church with Marge.

Then I went to WalMart and got Ivalou a new cordless answering machine/telephone with Caller ID and two handsets.  And a cheap mouse for me.  I paid for Ivalou's with my ATM card.  Then paid for my stuff plus $60 cash back with my ATM card.  I was walking to the back 40 to my car and almost there, realized I didn't get my $60!!  So I went back in.  Had to go to the Customer Service desk and someone had to go to the register and count the money in the till then she brought me my $60!

Then walking back to the back 40 to my car, I looked up and a woman was backing her car up and if I hadn't had taken two steps backwards, she would have hit me!!

Then I went to Best Buy and I got my Wireless N USB Adapter.  No problems there except it was $59.99!!!

Then to the hospital.  I was walking down the hall in rehab and looked to the left and Ivalou was in the wrong room.  They moved her this morning.  Jo said she came in and went to her old room and a 'Do Not Enter--Isolation' sign was on the door.  It wasn't shut tight so she peeked in.  A man was in the bed!  She went to the nurse's station and they asked to help her.  Jo said, 'Where is my Mom?'  Oh, we moved her to 5B.  Jo said, 'Fifth floor?'  No, honey.  3905B here in rehab.  So she found Ivalou.  She has a roommate again but only until Wednesday and then I will be her housemate!

I took the Bible back to Jane.

I took my laptop to Ivalou's and put the Wireless N USB Adapter in the laptop and I got online at Ivalou's.  I can leave it there when Jo comes and she can get online with her laptop, too!  A good thing!

I got home and printed some things for church.  Enhanced some photos for church.  Scanned a business card for the church secretary and emailed the crest to her.

Tony called and wanted to talk and talk and talk.  Finally said good bye to him and I am just now eating...almost 10pm.

But the good thing, I am to be at the hospital for Ivalou's physical therapy so I can be trained on how to take care of Ivalou and it isn't until 10:30am!!!  But she has a session in the afternoon, too.  And after that I am buying groceries for Ivalou and I.

Okay....HOW WAS YOUR DAY????

I feel like I am running around in circle but then, this too shall pass!

Thanks for asking Marilyn.  Marbeth is doing considerably better.  I was able to visit her Saturday, and it was a 100% turnaround - smiling, talking easily, etc.  They're talking discharge in a couple of days possibly.  They're trying a new med on her which is supposed to be better, so pray it will be.

Hi Everyone!

Etta Sue, you ask how was my day...  Well, it was a lovely day.  We went to Temple Baptist Church over in Herndon, VA and what a wonderful service it was.  The music was so inspiring as was the sermon by Pastor Pitman.  He's doing a series on the Beatitudes and today was "Blessed are the Peacemakers".

Then on the way home to Falls Church, Paul surprised me by deciding to do a little side trip on the way home by driving to Great Falls to enjoy the colours.  It was certainly lovely.

Janet, why don't you hear the music?  What happens?  Mine opens in "Quick Time".  Not sure what you use on your computer for music.

Alan, we are remembering you and your situation with dear Marbeth's health right now.  May you feel the comfort of the Great Physician's arms surrounding you both at this time.

Well, thankfully, I didn't have an Etta Sue day!  ;)

Church this morning, lunch with friends, a brief afternoon nap, and then church this evening. This was missionary day. A missionary to Nigeria spoke this morning, and my goodness she was a great speaker - very inspiring. Then, this evening, one of our own members had gone with a Work & Witness team to Nigeria told us about her experiences, etc.

All in all, a great day with the Lord. Thank you for praying that the depression would lift - thankfully, it has!

G'nite, friends. Ruth Ann

Ruth Ann ~ I wouldn't wish my Etta Sue day on anyone!  Then of all things, I had one of 'THOSE' nights!  I couldn't shut my mind off and it was nothing concerning anything in my day or with Ivalou.  I was trying to figure out an email set up for church...a group email address that if you are on the list, you can use the one email address and it goes to everyone on the list.  The group can send and the group can receive.  My old church has it and I would love to have it for my little church.

Today is Physical Therapy for ME at 10:30am.  I am going to drop off some papers at a sister's home.  Then 'work' at the hospital.  I plan to have lunch with Ivalou in the dining room.  The 'work' some more in the afternoon.  And leave!  I need to buy groceries for Ivalou's home!

Pray that I keep on schedule today.  Getting off schedule gets me in trouble!  Not bad trouble but a mental trouble.  The more I hurry the behinder I get!

Well, here we go on another week. I got a phonecall last evening, and it was quite a surpise - it was Marbeth, calling from the hospital.  They brought her the phone for a little while, so she called me!  She sounds pretty good still.  They're giving her the new med now, but they won't really know until sometime today or even tomorrow whether it'll work ok.  Pray so.  Well, gotta get underway for the day now.

Hello all & I send my prayers for every little wish or prayer.

We had a full 4 days of action and I am so tired.  The flight home was delayed over six hours and we sat at the Minneapolis St.Paul Lindbergh airport and lucky to get a seat at first.  I drove home on ice and snow and arrived after 10:30 at night.  Company comes today at noon.

Lots of computer problems here and we don't have time to work on it.  Hooray, we have gas hookup at the cabin.  Nice.  Don reports that it was 8*F one night.  Minnesota felt like that temp and I wore my longies, fleece slacks & a very nice hockey mom went to the car for a blanket for me - she now brings one for every game I attend.

On the radio, now the government in D.C. want to put in an attorney for the state of Colorado and she has lied to the feds - this just gets depressing. That is the basic news from around here.

Father, I pray that Etta Sue will be able to calmly and efficiently accomplish everything today that she needs to do today.  Please wrap your arms of love and peace around her and keep her mind serene, and when evening comes she will be able to look back over her day and be amazed at all she accomplished without feeling rushed or frustrated in the least.  We thank you for Who you are, and for all you have done for us; and for all the things you do for us each and every day of our lives.  In Jesus' name, amen.

Goodness, Etta Sue, a harried day, followed by a not-so-good night, you do need our prayers.  But God loves you, and He will supply everything you need.  May you just feel peaceful and blessed this whole day through.

Ruth Ann, so good to know your depression has lifted.  Praise the Lord!

Pat, nice to hear that you had a lovely day.  Herndon is very near where Beth lived while working in Virginia.  In fact, I believe she worked in Herndon for a while--I need to ask her again.  I visited that area while she was there, and it is certainly beautiful.

We need to get rid of the things people bought but left here after the sale.  Those guys are moving into the big house soon, and it looks too cluttered with all that stuff lying around outside.  Some will go into the trash pit, some we may be able to use somewhere.  And I don't like seeing it and being reminded of the sale, anyway.  :(

I believe the sun is going to shine on us today!  It rained again yesterday.  The farmers are needing to get crops harvested.

QUESTION FOR ALL OF YOU:  What will happen to our pets after the rapture?  I ran across something amazing in one of my emails.  It was titled AFTER RAPTURE PET CARE, and said that since all the Christians will soon be taken to heaven, who will care for their pets?  Then it went on to say the writers were committed athiests, and as such will be among the left behind.  And just because we are atheists, doesn't mean we don't love animals; in fact, we love all kinds of animals!  So, for the low price of 69.95 pounds, we will care for your pets after you are gone.  We will feed them and love them, and we have people in the South of England and the North of Wales (I might have that mixed up, didn't consult a map) so all those areas are covered.

Isn't that amazing??  And as it said in the heading, there will be people who will fall for that!  Give it some thought:  Who would there be to check and see the pets were actually cared for?  It isn't like anybody is coming back to see!  And, Darrel said, tongue-in-cheek, what if my dog dies before then?  I told him I can assure him if that happened, he wouldn't be getting a refund!

Do you believe animals will be in heaven?  Let's have some stimulating conversation here and just discuss this, okay?
Title: Re: Thoughts for the Week October 25
Post by: Al Moak on October 26, 2009, 10:25:41 AM
Janet - as you might well imagine, that question is not new.  First of all, of course, is that God knew all about that question long before it came into our minds.  He has a plan for everything, and He doesn't necessarily reveal all the answers to us.  I don't believe His Word tells us anything about this particular question, so it must be apparent that we didn't need to know.  Secondly, we don't know what heaven is like.  We have all sorts of preconceived notions about it, most of which descended to us from the middle ages and the Roman church.  For instance, who says it's "up there?" It may or may not be physically locatable.  It may be merely a very different state of being.  It definitely exists, and we shall definitely be with Christ, but we know pretty much nothing about where or what.  Without such knowledge, it would obviously be impossible for us to speculate accurately about animals in such a state.  I hope it's definitly understood that our Father considers them important - just as He does all things He has created.  They are His, and we are His, and I love that Biblical saying, "Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?"
There.  That's my answer.  Doesn't that ENLIGHTEN you?

Al, that's not only a good answer, it's the only answer.

What strikes me in that pet care offer - if they are atheists, how come they believe in the Rapture?    :o

Etta Sue: Try to keep your stress under control.  I know it is easy for me to say and much harder for you to do.

Al:  Sounds like good news.

I had a me day, which was nice I made list of stores I had not been to for ages, one is closed until Tuesday, then along the way I dropped in to visit a friend.

I think that I will make shepherds pie for dinner this evening easy to do and tastes wonderful.   How plates do I put on the table?
Title: Re: Thoughts for the Week October 25
Post by: Janet on October 26, 2009, 07:13:12 PM
Al, it may not be a new question, but it had never entered my mind before I read that.  I do not agree with your answer; I think we do know quite a bit about heaven, but we can agree to disagree agreeably!  :)

And...I don't think atheists do believe in the rapture.  Their whole motivation in this crazy thing is only $$$$$$$$$$$!  Easy to see through that.

Well, anyway, I thought we would have some spirited debate about it, but guess I was off track.  I must say, I am disappointed.  Oh, well...........

Al, you don't have to agree with me---you have a right to be wrong!   I'm glad you have a sense of humor!

Now--what about the following?  I was thinking if a bar of soap in the bed could help, why not onions in the room?  Anyway, I just received this and wanted to share it with all of you.  Probably could check it out online, but I haven't yet done so.

Have you heard of this?  Worth a try.
>
> Never heard of this before. But who knows.
>
> VERY INTERESTING!! In 1919 when the flu killed 40  million people there was this Doctor that visited the many  farmers to see if he could help them combat the flu. Many of the farmers and their family had contracted it and  many died.
>
> The doctor came upon this one farmer and to his surprise,  everyone was very healthy. When the doctor asked what  the farmer was doing that was different the wife replied  that she had placed an unpeeled onion in a dish in the rooms  of the home, (probably only two rooms back then).  The doctor couldn't believe it and asked if he could have one of  the onions and place it under the microscope.  She gave  him one and when he did this, he did find the flu virus in  the onion.  It obviously absorbed the bacteria, therefore, keeping the family healthy.
>
> Now, I heard this story from my hairdresser in AZ.   She said that several years ago many of her employees were  coming down with the flu and so were many of her  customers.  The next year she placed several bowls with onions around in her shop.  To her surprise, none of  her staff got sick.  It must work..
> (And no, she  is not in the onion business.)
>
> The moral of the story is, buy some onions and place them  in bowls around your home.  If you work at a desk,  place one or two in your office or under your desk or even  on top somewhere.  Try it and see what happens.   We did it last year and we never  got the flu.
>
> If this helps you and your loved ones from getting sick,  all the better. If you do get the flu, it just might  be a mild case..
>
> Whatever, what have you to lose?  Just a few bucks on onions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
>
> Now there is a P. S. to this for I sent it to a friend in Oregon who regularly contributes material to me on health issues.  She replied with this most interesting experience about onions:
> Weldon, thanks for the reminder.  I don't know about the farmers story...but, I do know that I contacted pneumonia and needless to say I was very ill...I came across an article that said to cut both ends off an onion put one end on a fork and then place the forked end into an empty jar...placing the jar next to the sick patient at night. It said the onion would be black in the morning from the germs...sure enough it happened just like that...the onion was a mess and I began to feel better.

> Another thing I read in the article was that onions and garlic placed around the room saved many from the black plague years ago. They have powerful antibacterial, antiseptic properties.

Janet, the soap doesn't work for restless legs - although it might for cramps.  But what an interesting idea about onions.  Certainly worth trying, with the shortage of flu vaccine in my area.   ;D

It is always interesting to check in here & see what everyone is writing.  Onions in the room.  Hmmm -

We are going to run to the store (there is a winter storm beginning tonight) and I have a dr. appointment.  My cousin & wife left at 5 am on their way to Arizona.  We were visiting until almost midnight and had a great time.  His truck battery died right here in our driveway so Don was able to help first with getting a new battery and then he helped my cousin with some things on their new laptop.

I am supposed to bring parts of breakfast to church tomorrow - we also may have up to 18 in. of snow on the ground.  Guess I will think positive and buy the ingredients today.

This morning I am making Banana Bread from a recipe I found online.
Carol and Gord did you forget to email me your recipes. his one is called ld Fashioned Banana bread. We will see  how it turns out and if it is what I was looking for.

Rain here supposed to clear up  tomorrow then more rain.  We are well here planning on getting the H1N1 shot if and when it gets here. Gilbert said they weren't going to get the shot for Forest and Savannah or themselves. personally I think they should all get them. Gilbert and Forest both have Asthma as do I and Sarah MS. Gilbert said they were just going to get the flu then be immune to it. Oh well it is their choice I can't do anything about it except to pray for them.

Al How is Marbeth doing?

Oh before I forget, most of you remember me working for Fay. She turned 100 in July, she is in the hospital and I don't think she is going to be able to go back home again. She has refused to have the tests they want to do on her and her caregiver says she has refused to eat. Please pray that when her time comes she will go peacefully.

Hi everyone.  I have only 12 minutes left on the library computer here at the library.  Unfortunately, the public system here at the library, where I could use my laptop, isn't working probably and apparently hasn't for a long time.  So I will check out Barnes and Nobel later but have checked my e-mail and wanted to stop by here and say hi.

We arrived here in Independence, Missouri, about 3 pm yesterday after leaving my sister's house at 7:30.  We have had a very enjoyable trip and our new car is very comfortable and nice to drive on the road.  We listened to a nice book on CD by Lorraine Snelling called "Sophie's Choice" and really enjoyed it over a 12 hour period.

We plan on being here at Pat's sister's probably until Monday.  This is the first trip we have every taken that wasn't planned out almost to the minute.  Our daughter is getting along without us but we talk with her every evening when she calls.

Al, so sorry her read that Marbeth has had to be hospitalized and sure hope she gets the help she needs.  I know this is stressful for you as well as for her.

I have only been able to quickly skim over the postings since I posted a couple of days ago.  When I have some unlimited time on the computer I will try to go back and read the messages more completely as I have probably missed something.

At about 10am yesterday, my phone rang.  Ivalou.  She said that PT said they weren't ready for ME but to come at 1PM.  So I had more time at home than I thought.

I took some papers to a ladies house and then got a sandwich at Arby's to eat with Ivalou while she had lunch.  When I got to the hospital, Barb and Kaye Don were there also.  At 1pm I pushed Ivalou into PT.  Well, I have no idea why I had to be there.  I didn't do anything other than watch Ivalou do her own leg and ankle exercises which I had seen her do them before.

But I did get the papers to get her tub transfer bench at Walgreens.  So I left and got that and a reacher.  Next was groceries.  I put them all away in Ivalou's house when I got home.

I had forgotten to tell Ivalou good bye so I called her on the phone.  It is funny that she talks on the phone with barely any problems.  I could understand everything she was saying.

Since I asked PT if I had to come back today and they didn't say yes or no, I opted to stay home today.  I have done a lot of minor things that needed to be done and I have mowed the leaves/lawn.  I have showered and I will be leaving around 4:15pm for Beef and Boards.  Tonight is 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat'.  I have seen it at our local high school but not at B & B.

Barb called and said that a friend will be bringing dinner to Ivalou and I tomorrow evening.  That is nice.  And Barb is to find out what time the Conference Meeting is tomorrow and call me before 6pm.

I am ready for Ivalou to come home.

Just in for a few minutes.

Janet: Your little story, I have been told about that many years ago and forgot - perhaps it came from my father, his family was not that lucky as he lost a brother and 2 sisters to the terrible flu.  Another interesting point it was perhaps 2 wks ago that I shared something with a cashier and she said that they will use garlic to get rid of human worms - you eat a clove or two and carry the same in your bottom checks she used it with herself and children, the little critters do not like garlic.   You can be sure that I will give the onions a try.

Company is arriving for dinner.

Just stopping by to say "Hey there" to all y'all ...  :D  I've been out and about this morning and here it is already well after noon!

I found the "onion story" quite interesting ... and garlic ... well that could keep a whole host of critters as well as others away!

Larry, my sister lives in Independence MO ... I haven't seen her since last year when we were together in AZ. but I "see" her often on FaceBook.

Al and Janet .... I guess I'll just be neutral here ... I'll agree with you both, how's that!  Just call me Switzerland!    ;D

I got the seasonal flu shot last week, but don't think I'll go for the H1N1 ... I'll get some onions, instead.  ;)

Ruth, my former husband used to feed garlic to the dogs to rid them of worms ... guess it'd work on humans as well, y'think?

Etta Sue ... wanna come mow my leaves?  I don't have much yard but at present it's pretty well covered with leaves from the Rhodies ....  Since it has been dumping rain/sleet/hail intermittantly here, I guess I can wait until "some other day" and I'll start looking for my round tuit.

I still have a round flat piece of wood about the size of a nickel and it is imprinted with the letters, "TUIT."

This was given to my hubby many years ago when he was a young bank teller.

:D

I'm heading to bed, but wanted to say how much I appreciate hearing from all of y'all. Yes, I'll be happy to buy a few onions to put in my little apartment. I'm not certain how many apartments our building has, but in the 2 apartment buildings, there are more than 500 residents.

And, since many of them have grand- and great grand children visiting from time to time, it seems that the onion idea could be a great one for me. :)

Y'all have  agreat rest of the day.

Since the supply of flu vaccine that was supposed to be delivered to our Senior Center next week has been canceled, the onion sounds like a viable alternative.   :D

I'm waiting to hear how much a tire is going to cost.  I drove quite ways on a flat before I realized that was the noise I was hearing.  So the tire is shredded and needs to be replaced rather than patched or other repair.

I was so happy about my leaves being mowed and I cleaned my driveway and Ivalou's by blowing the leaves off with the blade turning on the mower.  I came in, showered and it started to rain.  When I left at 4pm for Beef and Boards, you would have never known that I mulched the leaves OR cleaned off either driveway.  Almost all my leaves are off the trees.  Next mowing will be it for the season!

'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' was great.  Sometimes I felt like it was making fun of the Bible but the singing, dancing, costumes and acting was superb!  There were about a dozen little kids in it also and it was way to late for them to be up!

Today is 'bring home Ivalou' day!  Hurray!!!!!  I told Kaye Don I would meet him and Barb at Ivalou at 10am.  We will drive her car...well, Kaye Don will.  I don't like to drive when a man is in the car...silly me!  I just know she will be so happy to be home and all of us will be happy that she is home because the hospital staff thinks she is ready!

God is good!

Etta Sue:  A happy day for you and your family - enjoy!

Well, I just emailed Marilyn the banana recipe I have used for years - forgive my forgetfulness Marilyn.  I was going to drive my neighbor to bible study but nature interfered with a  snowstorm.  Instead, I am listening to the radio, and looking out the window - barely any cars going by and it keeps on snowing.  Beautiful & wonderful and school is closed.  We are also low on the priority for any plowing here.  I think Don will load Windows 7 on this laptop - this has been so troublesome too many times so we hope the 7 will mend the laptop that is only a year old.

There is a shortage of H1N1 flu vaccine here - and nothing for us.  We did get our regular flu shots.

Having in the past had enough snow for a lifetime, I'm glad to say that it's about 50 degrees here and no rain (at least no rain yet).  I visited Marbeth last night, and she seemed quite chipper.  I am indeed thankful for the progress.  We're to have a meeting between the social worker, the doctor, and Marbeth and myself tomorrow afternoon.  It's possible that she could be discharged following that meeting, though that's not a sure thing.  I don't want them to discharge her before she's ready, but I very definitely pray that she will be ready.  Please pray.

It is gloomy looking here, but the forecast says party cloudy tomorrow, then sunny, sunny, sunny and sunny for the following days.  I would just as soon not have snow just now, as we need to go to Amarillo this weekend for Darrel's mother's 97th birthday.  She lives in a tower place where they do her cleaning and meals, but she is still able to do everything else for herself.  God is good.  :)

Someone checked the onion thing out on Snopes, and said they said it has circulated for years but they are unable to prove or disprove it.  I think if it works for someone, no further proof is needed, at least for them!  :)  And here we are, without a single onion in the house!  Darrel forgot to buy them when he went to the store, so we need to get some today.

I don't have a round tuit, but the bank gave me several wooden nickels the other day.  Would they work?

I do hope both Ivalou and Marbeth get home today.  There's no place like home!  (Just ask Dorothy!)  ;)

Hi Carol!  Hope you enjoy the snow, since it sounds as if you will be snowed in for a while there.  I always say if I am going to get snowed in, I want it to be at home!

Jane that roundtuit I saw had your name on it in big bold letters it said JANE

Nothing new here today. I have the dog blankets in the  washer, I have ordered two new  rectangular dog bed with my points form AC Nielsen. They still have the huge round bed  int he big master bedroom on top of my trampoline. They both want to sleep on it but not with each other, they growl at each other. ow that the weather has turned cooler we have moved into the smaller master bedroom and there is no room for that big round dog bed. So I ordered the others.

Carol thank you for the recipe it is almost like the one I found on the net there are a few differences, i.e. more flour, sour cream and the spices.

Al that is good news about Marbeth, I know you will be glad to have her home is they  agree she is ready.

Etta Sue good news on Iva Lou too.

The weather was supposed to be better today but it still looks like its gonna rain to  me.

Okay, Marilyn, if that's mine then I can't don't have to do anything until I find it ...

A long time ago, a friend/insurance agent had a lot of silver coins that he passed out to people.  They were about the size of a half dollar and, on one side was the logo of his agency and on the other was ingraved TUIT.  I don't even know what I did with that.   :-\

I do have a round pot holder with TUIT printed on it, but it was my mother's so I guess I can't claim it as my own, can I?

I'll see y'all later .... when I get a round tuit!

Hi everyone.  I am writing from Barnes and Noble this afternoon and their free internet works very well.  However, my laptop battery has a 2 hour life and I have just a little over an hour of time left on it, but that should be enough.

I went back and read the messages that I didn't have time to read yesterday.  Jeanne, I liked your devotional thought for the week.

We are suppose to have heavy rain in the Kansas City area starting either later tonight or early tomorrow.  At least there is no snow predicted.  My sister-in-law had planned to have all of her family over tomorrow evening for a big meal but two of her granddaughters are ill, one with cat scratch fever and the other has a cyst that has been found in her throat and was diagnosed yesterday at the ER.  They are seeing another doctor today.  Her great granddaughter also was diagnosed to day with cat scratch fever.  They have a new kitten, which obviously is the source of this disease.  So don't even know whether we will get to see them or not.

Later this afternoon we are going to sign up with T-Mobile for a cell plan that will work for Pat and I and we can add 3 others so will put her sister on the plan.  This will allow us to drop our home landlines but will still be able to keep our existing landline number for one of the lines.  We will no longer use our prepaid plans.  Then we can add our daughter to the plan as well when she needs it.  Also the calls to any T-mobile number do not get charged to your cell phone minutes.  I hope it works out well as we will be committed for two years.

Etta Sue, sure hope Ivalou has been able to get home today and all goes well.

Janet, interesting information on the onions.  We always keep onions out in the kitchens but guess a few more about the house wouldn't hurt.  By the way congratulations ont he spelling bee championship if I haven't already mentioned it.

Al, hope the conference goes well and that you are able to get Marbeth home.

Carol, I saw on the news at noon that you were getting pelted with a huge amount of snow.  Glad you made it back from your trip before that storm arrived.

Hi to Jane, Marilyn, Ruth Ann and anyone else I may have failed to mention who has posted since my last posting.

We are going to be in Independence, Mo until Monday morning and then don't expect to be at home until midweek next week.

Hi, friends, I'll be heading out to do the laundry shortly. It's wonderful that the "out" is out my own door here in the apartment building, down 13 floors to the ground floor, hang a left, and arrive in the large laundry room. It will be warm, safe, and usually there's someone there who wants to converse. :)

Gratitude is so important for us, isn't it.

Y'all have a great rest of the day.

We are very lucky to be able to stay in the house today as the snow keeps getting stronger & by now, there may be 20 inches on the ground at our house.  One son flew to Tennessee today and our SIL flew to Portland so they are out of here.  I have not talked with the other boys and girls.

Hi Ruth Ann!  It is nice to see you posting.

Marilyn:  I never measure this but sometimes use applesauce in place of some of the oil.  It is still very moist.

Larry:  Don loaded Windows 7 onto the laptop and it looks like Quicken and everything transferred.  Sigh of relief!  I sure hope this helps our very odd problems.  Pelted with snow is the right word for it.  I think that this may be another early record & this year we have been breaking old cold records.  We would have to use Verizon if we fixed the phones like you are doing as it is so much better in the remote places we stay.  Meanwhile, Don uses Vonage too and of course, SKYPE on the computer.  It sure takes a lot of time to figure these things out and isn't like the good old days when there was only one service.  Nicer for us but more brain work.  :0)

Janet:  It isn't too bad to be benched at home especially since we didn't have much on the calendar - the entire church closed today so I am glad we didn't try to drive there.

Rise and Shine everyone!  I can't believe that I am first in here this morning.  It is still snowing and maybe another foot will be here by tonight when this snowstorm ebbs.  I think that there is at least a foot & half out there now & perhaps more.  Nice for making snowmen.  Terrific for our water supply.

Çarol - glad you can make snowmen, and glad your water supply is helped, but you keep the snow.  I'm glad it doesn't do that here.  I used to shovel snow about 6o days each year up in the Sierras, so I'm very well acquainted with that cold white stuff!  But thank our Lord for caring for His earth.

We're having a meeting today at 2:30PM - Marbeth, I, the social worker, and the doctor.  I was led to believe there was a possibility of discharge after that meeting.  Please pray.

Al:  Praying for you and Marbeth.

I came in here to mention that our son Matt is quoted in USA Today.  Just google that and add Willow and Matt Shovein and the article on braces for a dog should come up.  Good picture of Willow and Matt's shoes.

Hi everyone.  It is about 10:45 am and I am once again at Barnes and Noble.  I did go to the library and used their computers until it was time to come here and was able to work up my new e-mail.

We had strong rain showers early this morning but are now in a few hour hold pattern with no rain but around noon more is expected and through out the day.  However, tomorrow is expected to be ok and then for the next several days.  Sure glad that snow from the Denver area isn't predicted for here.  I did put in th car a scraper and brush before we left home just in case.

Carol, I saw on the news this morning that you had 22 inches of snow on the ground so far and were expected to get 3 feet of snow. That is really a lot of snow.  Glad your son and daughter got out of town without problems.  I suppose the problem would be flying into Denver.

Al, I will be thinking of you this afternoon and hope that Marbeth is wel enough to return home this afternoon.

Ruth Ann, our daughter has the laundry facility in the basement of her big apartment house.  She has a laundry card that works in the machines so she doesn't have to deal with having change.

Speaking of our daughter she had to go to the emergency room again last night as thought she was having heart problems as her heart rate got high and she felt like she had a rock sitting on her chest.  They checked her out and said her heart was ok and that she has another bout of bronchitis.  They prescribed a generic antibiotics that she can get at Publix for free and released her at 2 am this morning.  Fortunately she lives just across the street from the hospital.

My sister-in-law and wife went to the store early this morning and will be preparing a large meal for the family tonight.  We should have about 12 or 13 present.  We went to Sam's last evening and purchased chicken cordon bleu as the mail dish and they were also going to get a small ham this morning.  I don't know how my SIL can cook in her kitchen as she has no space and the small amount of cabinet work space is basically covered with things.  However, I guess she is used to it.

We had a great meal last night at Bob Evans.  We always enjoy their food and it is very reasonable for what they serve and the quality of the food.

Ivalou is home.  Yesterday was a trying day.  It was a day of learning shortcuts for Ivalou and I so we can get things and jobs done without backing up and trying again.  Today is much much better.  Kaye Don added some beveled boards at the ends of the ramps so it wasn't an abrupt inch to 'hop' the wheelchair over.  Much easier on the back pushing her up the ramps now.  I thought I had done something to my back yesterday but with prayer and a night's rest, my back is much better today.

The Visiting Nurse came today.  She suggested a few things...most of which we are doing but just haven't gotten it done yet...like charging and setting up the new answering machine/cordless phone with Caller ID and two handsets.  They are still in the box!  Her old cordless phone has buttons but the numbers are worn off and she has hard times with numbers as it is.

I am thinking that I might not be able to be here every day but will try my best!

Hello all:   Yesterday we had a funeral visitation then on to do some shopping.

As for today I baked a banana cake just to use up the last banana and following that I was outside helping with tarping a couple of things for the winter.  We have my brothers motor cycle here as well and until all the leaves are done Mel is not able to put it in the small shed for winter storage, when that is done in a couple of weeks the last of the outdoor things will be put under a small tarp as well.

Mel is out curling and I am watching the base ball game so will check in tomorrow.         Ruth

Each day is easier but both of us do not know where we are going to fit in therapy!  We were busy, busy, busy yesterday doing all kinds of things.  The visiting nurse came and let us know that she should only be taking pills twice a day...morning and evening.  Ivalou said 'But I took pills with each meal and at bedtime at the hospital'.  The nurse replied 'They do that because they need to keep the nurses busy!!'  So now we have AM and PM pill taking.

While we were eating dinner, (remember she doesn't use her right hand because it has no feeling) Ivalou was eating vegetable soup with her left hand.  Somehow the spoon got on the right side of the bowl.  She grabbed the spoon with her right hand.  She looked down at her hand with a very surprised look and said 'What are you doing?  You aren't suppose to do that!'  Then looked at me and we both cracked up laughing!  She makes my day with her laughter.  I love her to pieces!

She had visitors off and on all day and evening.  We went to bed early and both of us got a great night's rest.  But she said today she is going to put her legs up when company comes.  She swells a lot and isn't taking lasix right now.

Off to another great day!

Still frozen in Colorado today but it will warm up to 38* F. this afternoon.  I think millions of people are going to get in their cars immediately.

Larry:  I am so sorry that Stacey has another bout of lung problem & this time bronchitis.  Whew - she must have gone through every antibiotic there is - glad it is that though and not the heart.  Both son and son-in-law returned yesterday and they could have been on snowmobiles from the airport home.  Some schools are closed for the third day here because of drifting.

Ruth:  You must be the only person I know who writes about her husband going curling and I actually know what it means.   ;)  Curl on!

Etta Sue:  You and your sister should be spokespeople on how to recoup from a stroke and laughter with a good attitude shows through on your posts.

I have been measuring my food intake and it is shocking that what we think is a serving is nothing like what we should eat - meaning, eat less.  It has helped - I don't like it.

Al:  Have not seen you post today - am sending good wishes to you and Marbeth.

::)cp: Al. It is good to get such a good message that your wife is home Praise the Lord.  Are you able to sleep in your own bed yet.?

Etta Sue.  It is also so good that your sister is now home.  I know how hard it will be to figure out all the things that you have to help her with but the Lord will always be there to help you both.  My wife and I were the care givers for her parents when they were alive. :)

Larry and Pat.  Hope that you are both enjoying your time away and that you get home before the snow flies.Sorry to here that your daughter is not to good again will pray that she gets strong again. :coffee:

Well I have to good things to share and Praise the Lord for. I got the results back about the colinoscopy test and they had to remove two polyps and they were both clear no cancer Praise the Lord. tThe other thing is that My nose bleed that I had is o.k. for now and they started my blood thinner again.  If it starts again I have to go to the hospital right away I am so thankful for it being o.k.  Praise the Lord for his goodness to us.

Paul and Pat.  Hope that you are both well and not overdoing things. :)

Carol and Don.  I am so happy that we do not have all that snow that you are getting since living in Canada I have shoveled enough of it  and feel the same way as Al does..  Please stay safe.

Judy B.  How are you all doing up north have you had any snow.  How is John's health and is he busy at work..  Say hi to the Kids and May the Lord richly bless you. <3 By sis. :cp:

Before I forget, I want to say to Etta Sue--it is much easier to pull a wheelchair over thresholds of doors, curbs, etc., than to push them!  Having Beth in a wheelchair for several years, I learned a lot by trial and error.  Of course, if it is several inches (curbs) just tilt the chair back, get the small wheels up and then the big ones.  You will learn a lot as you go along. And it is good Ivalou can grab a spoon with that right hand!  Maybe not eat hot soup she could spill, but at least she can use it!  Blessings to both of you as you work together toward her recovery.

Carol, hope you have gotten dug or melted out from the snow by now, but doubt if much has melted.  We have had more rain, very unusual weather for October.

My dear 92 year old friend Maxine has been having quite a time, in and out of the hospital several times lately.  I am very concerned about her.  And it all started, as is often the case, with a fall, in which she cracked her hip.

I have three new cartridges for my Cricut machine, maybe I will go play for a while!

Al, I praise God with you that Marbeth is home!

Praise Him all creatures here below;
Praise Him above ye heav'n-ly hosts;
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

Al, I truly praise God with you for Marbeth's safe return home to you.   <3

I truly love that old hymn, Jane.  It's too bad so many in our day can't forget the contemporary at least once in a while and return to those wonderful words.  Thank you.

Al, I agree! (Surprised?)  ;)  While I do love a lot of the new songs, I really love the old hymns of the faith, including the Doxology.  I think it is sad that our young kids are growing up not ever hearing those wonderful old songs, so many are filled with the Word!  Yes, some were filled with doubt, fear and unbelief, but most were based solidly on scripture.  Ah, yes....I miss 'em.  :(

Hey!  We have bright sunshine today!!  Yea!  8)  Darrel and I are going to Garden City to purchase a new front door for Beth's trailer house.  The old one is wood, and since we had to take off the storm door in order for her to get in and out in her power chair, it has become very weathered.  The new one will be steel.  Jim, who has rented the other trailer for over 20 years, moved into Beth's, and is busy replacing the flimsy plastic skirting with steel.  The steel was on the older trailer.  Always something!

We got the lists of what was sold, and the amounts; also our check.  Very, very disappointing; but...onward and upward!  Forgetting those things that are behind and reaching out for those that lie ahead.........   It is sure a reality check in remembering that it is all just STUFF.  I do think the auctioneer has quite a gravy train, for one day's work, he got nearly as much money as we did; after taking out all expenses from our part.  Oh, well, as Darrel says, we did get rid of lots of stuff.

I have been struggling with trying to use some software on my computer that goes with my Cricut machine.  I spent three hours last night and still don't have it right!  As Carol has just said, computers can be so frustrating.  Especially for those of us who only know enough to be dangerous.  (Me, Carol, not you.)

Time to put a load of clothes in the dryer, brush my teeth and go!

Good Morning, If the sun was shining here  would be singing Morning has Broken. Unfortunately no sun.
We have to go to Walmart in a bit so I can buy dog food and we also need a couple of other things, we are trying to wait  for the rain to stop. Ha! I wonder when that will be.

I am still at Ivalou's.  Jo called and asked if I could stay last night and they would come early this morning.  What could I say?  No?  I don't think so.  So I stayed and it is 11:30am and still no Jo.  I just hope nothing has happened to them on the way here.

Ivalou is doing her Occupational Home Exercises.  She has already done her Physical Home Exercises.  Last evening she was saying that something wasn't right on her back at the right side.  We discovered that the feeling has come back in that area and also her right thigh.  Hooray!  We have been praying for that!  And more!

Pray that God continues healing Ivalou so that she can be an example to others who have had strokes.  There is light at the end of the tunnel.

I have been going back and forth to my house.  Ali and Inky first look at me like 'who are you?'  Then they realize that I am the lady that feeds them!   ::)

I finally finished reading all the posts and happy that so many people are on the way to being well again.

The talk about onions made me remember how hot onion poultices were once used for very bad chest colds.  Now probably named something much worse.....Worked tho' as people got well.

A friend sent this the other day, probably to make me feel very old.  Thought someone here might get a smile:

5. Coffee shops or diners with tableside juke  boxes
6. Home milk delivery in glass bottles with cardboard stoppers

Hi everyone.  Once again I am writing from Barnes & Noble.  I didn't get to where I had Internet yesterday so had a bit of reading to do today.

We will be leaving here in the morning as are going to Pat's aunt's house this evening for dinner.  Know we won't stay very long as tonight is Halloween and she apparently has a lot of trick and treaters.  We are suppose to be there at 5:15 but it will be a miracle if we get there by then.  My SIL's grand and great grandkids are suppose to come by this afternoon in costume so we are dependent on a lot of other people being on time.  Oh well, all will work out as it is suppose to.  It is one of my faults to hate to be late for anything.  Guess that came from my many years living on a farm when chores had to be done morning and night at about the same time.

We had a very windy, cold and overcast day here yesterday but today is truly beautiful with lots of sunshine and not much wind.

Sure glad to read of the progress that Ivalou is making.  It sounds like she could well have a pretty complete recovery over time.

Jeanne Lee, I even remember butch wax for the butch haircuts that were popular when I was a teenager.  :)

Janet, I truly understand your frustration with the size of your sale proceeds.  However, something is better than nothing and now I am sure you have a lot of space you didn't have available before and won't have to face cleaning it all out later.

Al, good to read that Marbeth is back at home.  I know you are most relieved.

Carol, I know there are several things regarding the Windows 7 that are negatives if all your computers didn't have Vista on them.  You might check out a program called Network Magic that really makes home networking a breeze.  I just upgraded to the latest version when Pat got her new Netbook and it will handle up to 8 computers.  I understand there is a problem of networking Windows 7 and XP machines.  Hope you solve the problem soon.  Hope the snow has ceased and you can begin to thaw out.

Gord, glad you got good results from your procedure and the nose bleeds are ceased.

An update on Stacey.  X-rays that were taken when she went to the ER the other night show that she now has 5 broken bones in her foot with the Charcot disease.  Her foot is really causing her a lot of pain and that is affecting her heart rate and her sugar counts.  Her internal medicine doctor, that she saw yesterday, also gave her a referral to the orthopedic service.  This is two new referrals.  The last time her foot doctor referred her the orthopedic doctor told her she wasn't bad enough to need to have anything done.  Pat asked her foot doctor about Charcot and he told her that often it is better for the person to have the foot amputed and then get a prosthesis to be able to walk again than to go through the surgery.  It is really a dilemma.  These are decisions she will have to make for herself.

It was the day before the general election, (always on a Thursday in Great Britain) and the vicar was in church sorting out the Sunday service with the organist. What hymn are we going to open with on Sunday? Said the vicar. That all depends, said the organist, on what said the vicar? The outcome of the general election, you see if the Labour party get in, we shall be singing. Lord make haste to save thy people, if the Conservatives win we shall be singing. Praise God from whom all blessings flow. And what if the it the Liberal party get elected, said the vicar? In that case, said the organist, we shall be singing, Great God of wonders, all thy way's.

Larry, you said,
QuoteIt is one of my faults to hate to be late for anything.  Guess that came from my many years living on a farm when chores had to be done morning and night at about the same time.
I can really relate to that.  Our whole church is fully aware of that characteristic of mine!  But hey, after all, when we say we'll be somewhere at a particular time, it's a promise.  Shouldn't we intend to keep promises?  It's part of the characteristic of faithfulness.  So let's get out there and reform the whole world.

Liz not very old, 3 candy cigarettes, 11 tv test patterns, 12 peashooters, still get them, 14 45rpm records, there's piles of them in junk shops, second hand shops, charity shops, you name it. 16 Hi fi's late sixties and seventies, not that old. 19 blue flashbulbs, used a few of them in my time, better than electronic flash, as the reflectors were large and gave out a more even light, they're still around, as cameras still have the old sockets an synchronisation for them, not digital cameras I don't think. 25 Wash tub wringers, one of the tiny fragments of childhood memories I do have left, wringing clothes on washing day with mum.

Yup .... I remember them all, so that makes me older than dirt, I guess.   :D

Al and Larry, you can add me to the list of ones not liking to be late!  I agree with Al that if I say I'll be there at a certain time, that's a promise and I always want to keep my promises.

On that thought, I once heard that when you say "I'll try ..." you're setting yourself up for failure.  Should say either I will or I won't ... no in-between. ;)

Well tonight is Halloween.  The girls won't be going out, we don't "do" halloween.

I am not really back, just using my son's puter for a few minutes.

We have not had snow, just a few flurries now and then but nothing has stayed on the ground.

We got word that the mother of a dear friend passed away yesterday.  I am sorry about that for him, but she has graduated on to heaven and is totally healled.

Must run

May God bless each of you.

I dislike waiting on anyone.  If I say I will be there at 11, I will be there at 10:55!  Waiting on people is another reason I like to drive.  Dislike standing at the door and waiting and waiting for someone to come get me.  If I am suppose to be somewhere at a certain time, I am generally there first!

With that being said, Jo and her family didn't get here until 1:15pm yesterday!  I didn't stay long after they came.  I did laundry, paid bills, printed some things, changed bed linens, showered, and tried to catch up on my TV shows...didn't make that!  Will have to delete probably.

And I am older than dirt!  I am barely 67!  I sure remember Blackjack chewing gum!  And I remember volunteering in school to help mimeograph papers with that pan of purple stuff.  Nothing has ever smelled like that stuff since!

I am in charge of the overhead today at church.  Looking forward to eating out with the ladies.  Then I need to go to Noblesville for some items.  A new air brace for Ivalou.  She is wearing out the one!  And we sure need a spare!

Off I go!

Count me in with the hate to be late crowd!  I always arrive at least a few minutes early.  I consider being late simply rude.  And have you ever noticed that those who are late are always more jolly than those who have to wait for them?  There is one gal at our Senior Center who is habitually late; yet she expects others to always keep a place at the table for her, even if they don't know whether or not she is coming.  One lady said to her, "If you would just get here on time, you wouldn't have to worry about it."  Her response?  "But I just can't do that!"  I wanted to say, you could, if you would just start getting ready 30 minutes earlier!

Yep, Liz, I am older than dirt, too.  ;)

Larry, such terrible news of Stacey.  Goodness, it seems things just get worse and worse for her and Beth both.  Hard on parents, but as you have said many times, we just have to trust God to care for them.  We cannot do anything in the natural to change the outcome; but we can sure pray!  And that's the greatest thing.

I got up at 5:15, thinking it surely must be close to 7; but went back to bed.  Didn't want to fall asleep in church, especially after supposedly getting another hour of sleep!  But I wish they would STOP changing the time twice a year.  :P

There have been a lot of things happening at our church that we just cannot agree with; but we do not like changing churches.  God has not released us to go elsewhere, so we are continuing here.  I'm sure He will let us know in due time what he would have us do.  It seems as if you are over 50, your presence or opinion aren't even considered.  Many people have already left the church......

On the other hand, we love our Sunday School class!  That is where we feel free to comment on the scriptures, be a part, etc.  So it's not all bad.

I want to watch Jentezen Franklin, see you later!
