    Morning Devotional...

Psalm 12:2, 6.  "They speak idly everyone with his neighbor; with flattering lips and a double heart they speak . . . The words of the Lord are pure words, like silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times."

Sometimes people's words can be downright alarming.  They might even produce fear, and, at times, even revulsion.  The Lord's words, in tremendous contrast, produce relief from all that fear and shame that's so prevalent in the world, and they often result even in joy!

The problem is that the vast majority of the people of this world have lived their entire lifetimes in rebelleion against their Maker. They've actually tried to ignore Him, and their focus has therefore centered around themselves along with the advantages they think they may gain over other people.

As if that weren't enough, their mad scramble to bolster their own self importance has often resulted in meanness and lying, so, in large part, the world has been filled with the corruption from that  habitual lying.  It's actually become a dangerous environment for all who live here.

Because of all these things, this world has become a dreary place, a place of disappointment and a place of fear, a place that easily produces discouragement and expectation of failure.

In the midst of such negativity, though, there's one thing we can fairly shout about: our thankfulness for the rock-solid truth of God's Word and for the reflection of that purity and truth in the lives and words of His people!  Oh thank God, then, for the complete dependability of God's written Word!  Oh thank Him for an oasis of joy in the midst of this desert because of Jesus Christ our Savior!

The psalmist says, "The wicked prowl on every side, when violence is exalted among the sons of men."  But he is also able to say, "The words of the Lord are pure words!"

Do you need an oasis?  Turn again and again to our Lord and His Word.

A Shelter In the Time of Storm

You have been a shelter from the storm.
    Isaiah 25:4

Music: Ira D. Sankey, circa 1885

The Lord's our Rock, in Him we hide,
    A Shelter in the time of storm;
    Secure whatever ill betide,
A Shelter in the time of storm.

    Refrain
Oh, Jesus is a Rock in a weary land,
    A weary land, a weary land;
Oh, Jesus is a Rock in a weary land,
A Shelter in the time of storm.

A shade by day, defense by night,
    A Shelter in the time of storm;
No fears alarm, no foes afright,
A Shelter in the time of storm.

The raging storms may round us beat,
A Shelter in the time of storm
We'll never leave our safe retreat,

Be Thou our Helper ever near,

Off to sleep soon & tomorrow I will make a fudge/ice cream frozen cake for son-in-laws birthday.  Grandson's team has won every game at the hockey tournament & tomorrow is the final.  Finally, a decent day of weather here.

Janet:  Enjoy the reunion.  Don't ski if you haven't before - I don't care what they tell you, it is hard to learn later.  You can X-country though.  Take care.

Larry:  Pat has the same machine.  Great going.  I signed on to a Yahoo group - just put in your Bernina 440 & you will find it - the emails come in batches & you can choose not to read.  Interesting news in there at times.

Take care all, Carol

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  Just back from coffee and wanted to post before starting on some other projects today.  Don't have anywhere that I expect I will be going today so can take things nice and easy.

Our daughter was with us all weekend and by the time I took her home last evening and got home around 6 pm I was really beat.  Went to bed about 8 pm as was so tired.  We had a nice time with her.

Carol, I am passing your message on to Pat so she can check out the Yahoo group.    It sounds like your grandson plays on a very good team.  One of the men at coffee this morning said one of his grandsons was playing street hockey up in North Carolina and another grandson playing hockey in Minnesota and a granddaughter whose basketball team was going to be playing in the state tourney for her school.  He is a retired high school coach so know he is very proud.

Al, that is an excellent devotional for this week.  Thanks.

Karmat, it is nice to see the children out playing and enjoying the snow.  I have some fond childhood memories of sledding.

Ruth, nice that Sue came to see you for coffee/tea.  Stay warm.

Marilyn, if you were here you could join our church group for lunch after church.  We had a group of 14 yesterday and we always have an enjoyable time.

Ruth Ann, hoping you are feeling better today.  It sounds like we are in for some warmer weather this weekend.

Ruthie, nice to see you posting again.  It sounds like you have a very nice service and inspiring sermon.

Janet, this is the third Bernina machine my wife has had.  She has a portable and and older model that still works well.  I doubt that she will ever use the older machine again.  She really likes her new machine.  Can you practice your piano with earphones?  The one I have can be muted and just heard through the earphones.

Etta Sue, I sure hope you aren't coming down with a cold when you are getting ready to travel.  It is miserable to be traveling when you are not feeling well.

Jane, maybe your friend, who has supplied your wood in the past, will notice your woodpile is running low.  You certainly need heat.

Etta Sue

I am feeling much better this morning.  Yesterday I had a faucet in my head that wouldn't shut off.  And a ticklish nose that sneezed.  Today is at least comfortable.

I am doing laundry today and packing.  If I can get out of my drive Wednesday morning, we are leaving.  My drive is really rough right now.  The wind caused a drift halfway across.  Thought I was stuck coming back in last evening but I made it through.  Now it is predicting rain tomorrow and then get down to below freezing.  That means ICE because there is no place for the rain to run off.  And I am driving to Beef and Boards tomorrow night.  I have already put some things in the trunk of the car that I want to take to Florida.  Hopefully all I will have to put in Wednesday are my two suitcases, my purse and myself.  Ivalou's drive looks pretty good!

The singing was great yesterday afternoon.  I was so sorry there wasn't a better turn out of people but....  And the food was scruptous!  No need to fix something to eat when I got home.

Better get going.  Lots to do between now and then!

I received an email from The Jerusalem Prayer Team asking for prayer for President Bush.    Apparently he is criticized at every turn and needs God's wisdom for direction and guidance.

PLEASE PRAY FOR PRESIDENT BUSH!      Thank you.   God Bless

I just lost my post, Double drat!  :clobber:

Larry last night at prayer meeting another single woman and I made a lunch date for next Sunday after church.

Carol if I could have afforded a Bernina when I bought my new machine that is what I would have bought.

Etta Sue have you tried Mucinex? It is supposed to be the best. Used to be a prescription.

Ruthie it is good to see you posting again. Do you still have a foreign exchange student with you?

Ruthie, thank you for reminding us to pray for President Bush.  It is VITAL at this time to do that, and he appreciates our prayers so much.

Etta Sue, glad to hear you're feeling better today.  I made it out to exercise, and back home through the mud.  I prefer snow over mud any day, but mud is what we have!  Darrel had to go install some security cameras, and is hoping his service van can make it out (and back in) through the mud.  It was a lot warmer yesterday, with wind, so it did start the drying process.  Normally, I hate the wind, but in this case, it's our friend.

Larry, how are you this morning?  Always good to read about your activities.  I wish I had the machine Pat doesn't use any more (or one like it.)  :)

Ruth, good to hear from your corner, and how nice that you and Sue can have your visits.  We need to stay in closer touch with our families.

I have done my laundry, and am thinking about what to pack for Horn Creek.  I don't know if I still have any snow boots or not, sounds as if we will need them..........

Carol, I'm not sure if I will even do any tubing.  Probably have more fun watching others do it, anyway.  Darrel was planning to do that, but the nurse told him he has a torn rotator cuff, so his shoulder isn't working without pain. :(  I'm sure we will have a great time, just getting away for a few days and being with church friends.

Al, really good thoughts for this week, thanks.

I must go practice the piano, lesson this afternoon!  Larry, I'll bet you would get a real kick out of hearing me play my little kid pieces-----but I'm having a ball, and it's something I have wanted to learn since I was 6 years old!  And by NOT doing it, would I be getting any younger?  I doubt it!

Well here I am again.  I have had a busy time these last few weeks.  That is not about to let up any time soon!  At least if I am busy I am doing better than those lonely souls who have no family around to keep them busy!

Pat Get well! ! What about trying Dad and Aunt Rose's remidy?  It might just work!

It is a chilly day, The fire is blazing and the furnace is pumping out the heat.

The bird.  I have never seen one like it before.  I know most of the birds in the area, and this flock of 6 really seemed out of place.  I think I will give my friend at the MNR a call and ask if he knows what they are.

Small group is cancelled for tonight.  We need to head in to town for Cadets, so we will spend some time in the mall.  Also we have Mother's grocery shopping to do, and because her elevator is broken down We will have to climb up 5 sets of stairs.  I am not going to attempt the climbing of the stairs, by back is giving trouble.

Good talking to you last night Ruthie!  I will package that item up and mail it to you.

Well time to get the girls going on History. Bye for now

Whew I had quite a scare this morning when I got to work. The kitchen was a mess  Things knocked off the counter and  stuff on the floor and the bedroom door was closed. I tried to open the door and  Ruth was on the floor behind the door, at first I thought "Oh my God is she dead? No she had fallen down and didn't have the strength to pull herself upright and didn't have her lifeline on. She stayed there ever since yesterday afternoon until I got there this morning. I got her some water and juice to drink, pressed the lifeline and  had them send me an ambulance. In the meantime I took her blood glucose reading and started asking her questions.

As it turns out  because she is on Coumadin ( a blood thinner) and because she was on the floor all night  some of the muscles  began to deteriorate and there was too much protein in her blood stream. No broken bones, They are keeping her over night maybe two nights. Then she can go back home.

I got the place cleaned up and bought some stuff to spray on the carpet to get the urine smell out. It is for dogs but it works on any kind of urine and was only  $1.00 at Dollar tree.

Anyway at the hospital i just put on a pr of gloves and helped the nurse get her cleaned up and  checked out for the Dr. I was in the hallway and heard her calling for me from the xray room, so they let me go in with her to keep her calm while they repeated some of the x rays.

I know this got too long but I had to tell someone about my day. Good thing I have been well trained and all my aid training kicked in. I have never been licensed or had official nurses aid training just the caregiver training courses I took when I moved up here.

So that was my day. I am home now and walked the dogs as soon as I got here.

Marilyn - I think we can and ought to thank our Father for the outcome of the day with Ruth!  Thank You, Father, for Your grace and mercy to give Marilyn presence of mind to know what to do and to do it well.  Thank You for dealing with this, Father, through our Lord Jesus Christ.

I just got my checkbook balanced with the latest statement.  Whew!  What a chore!  We've got elder's meeting tonight, so I'm looking to our Father to bless that.

Liz

Rain and more rain!  Hope it means flowers and more flowers ^-^

That is a very nice devotional, Pastor Al.  So accurate about the present world...

Marilyn, my goodness, you do lead an interesting life.  I am praying for your DIL and so glad that you got to your client in time.  She is fortunate to have someone who is so caring and skilled.

Not much happening in my world.  Amanda's sprain is not healing and it means more weeks off work on the weekends.  Able to attend Uv. tho', but might mean another xray if no improvement in two weeks.  She is getting lots of practice on those crutches. :(

My much loved curling is going strong this week and my fav. skip is back curling again.  Big time Kelly Law fan and hope they do well.  So far....so good!  It is funny to watch Misty.  She watches the games between naps and thinks that it is possible to reach up to the screen and stop the rocks!!!  Well, there are dancing dogs, could be possible to train a curling cat?

Praying for those in need and nice to see Ruthie back.  Hope you will tell us more about what is happening in your church.  Agree, we do need much prayer for Pres. Bush.  Also for all the troops, including our forces in distant lands.  If only the media would be less negative and talk about all the positive things that are happening.

Time to go.  Pleasant Evening/Day and God Bless.

Hi, friends,

I worked a bit late this evening, so am later than usual getting here tonight.

I've prayed often today for Jeannine and her family. And, also for the other needs that we hear from time to time here in CP.

Pat, I truly hope you get well. Being ill is NO FUN.

Y'all have a good rest of the day.

Ruth Ann

We are home.  Grandson's hockey team was in last place going into the tournament then won every game & the championship.  Never fear, this doesn't end at all - there will be other games & tourneys.

Don said that I look the most tired he has ever seen me so he gave orders to take it easy.  It must be the aches & pain but there is no maid at this house to do anything meanwhile, he is super about wanting to help though.  Now, I have to work at the annual book sale, wouldn't you know?

Ruth:  I have watched curling on the Olympics & it is really precise & interesting.

Marilyn:  That was a close call.  It is a shame she couldn't press her lifeline button for help.  I hope you got a good machine when you last bought one - really, a good straight stitch is the most important.

Janet:  Owie for Darrel's rotor cuff.  Will he have surgery?  My problem is bursitis  and have therapy scheduled in a week or so.  It can't come fast enough.

Al:

Love the symbolism of a refreshing rest area to go to in our lives.  Thank you.

Pat:  Please get well.  Maybe you should try the old remedy as they sometimes work as well as prescription drugs.

Hi Ruth Ann:  Relax, now that you are home for the night - have a cup of herbal tea if you wish  :coffee:

Jeannine

Morning All,

First let me say Hi to everyone and Thank You so much for the prayers and concerns. Yesterday was a long, tiring and at times rough day. Thank You.

Frank's surgery was 11 hours long. He is in ICU resting as comfortably as can be expected. He has a trach for now, and all kinds of tubing connected. I'll just leave it at that.

I am so thankful for the Love and prayers and support of such wonderful people as are here on CP! And I am Thankful for a Loving Father we can take refuge in in times of trouble as well as in times of Praise and thanksgiving. Thank you all.

Always Trusting In Him,
<><Jeannine

Thank you, Janet, for that link to "If I should die before you wake."  Oh that more Americans would hear THOSE sentiments instead of what the media gives us!  A little-known fact is that well over half of those wounded in Iraq, after rehab and healing, WANT to go back to help WIN!  The media tells us that everybody's against the war, etc., but it's not so.  Not that anyone wants war, but the majority absolutely do want to fight and win the one we're in.  And oh, if president Bush only knew how many in this dear country of ours stand behind him and what he's doing!  My desire would be to send some of those media people over there to fight for a few months!
And yes, we should pray for our president.  It would also be helpful to let him know that we are praying.

Marilyn

Good Morning Did y-all hear about those  hikers and their dog on Mt Hood? Praise

Hi everyone.  It is overcast and likely to rain later in the day but it is a lot warmer today.  Pat is off to her quilting guild meeting for the month and I have someplace to go in a few minutes.

Al, I certainly agree with you.  This reminds me I need to write some letters to the President and my Congress people letting them know my stand on the need to support our President and the seriousness of the situation our country and the world now faces.

Jeannine, glad to hear that the healing process is underway.  That must have been an unbelievably long eleven hours for you yesterday.

Carol, if you don't take care of yourself and get totally down you won't be of any help.  Don't forget to attend to your needs so that you have the energy to do the other things and to enjoy them.  I know I have reached the point in my life that I am just not going to do those things that I don't enjoy anymore or don't have the energy to do and I know the world will go on.  That must have been exciting tourney for your grandson and all the family.  That was quite an accomplishment and emphasizes why they play the games.

Liz, sorry to read that Amanda's sprain is not getting better.  I have understood that sprains can be much worse than breaks.  I don't think I have ever watched a curling match so have no idea what the game involves.  Glad that you and Ruth enjoy them.

Marilyn, so glad that you didn't find Ruth with a broken hip or worse.  It doesn't do much good to have the LIfeline button if you don't keep it with you at all times when you are by yourself.  It must be so frightening to be so weak that you can't get up or call for help.  Thankfully God has placed you in her life.

Janet, if you would be interested in Pat's machine, which is in fine working order, feel free to call her and talk to her about it.  I am sure she would consider selling it.  I don't know how expensive it would be to ship but it has a sturdy hardshell case.  She has talked about listing it on eBay but hasn't done so yet.

Etta Sue, glad you are feeling better.  Sure you are counting the hours now until you leave tomorrow for Florida.

Hope this is a nice day for each of you.

Etta Sue

My prayer is that everyone who loves this country and wants to win the war for peace would praise louder than those who are intent on putting this country down and our President with it!

Janet ~ What a wonderful website.  Very touching photos!  And I know they are the truth!  Janet, I am not bragging when I say mycounty is the richest (average income per person) in the state of Indiana and rated in the top ten of the Nation...makes for a higher tax bracket for people like me on a fixed income.  But this county hasn't had a gravel road for about 10 years now.  I remember those gravel roads in the spring when it looks and feels like quick sand.  I remember my school bus getting to the axel in mud/gravel and we had to change buses.

Al ~ Every soldier I have ever talked too WANTS to go back and help win the war!  They sure don't talk negative about Iraq and the war like the media does.  But they will pay for their due, in time!

Marilyn ~ What a scare!  Did Ruth mess up the kitchen?  Has she said what was happening yet?  She must have known something was wrong and was trying to get to the bed or her lifeline.  Bless her heart and how fortunate she is that you arrived when you did.  Made me think of Jerry lying on his bathroom floor for at 36 hours.  My prayers are that she will survive this.

Liz ~ I have only seen Curling on the Olympics.  If it has gotten to the U.S., I don't know it.  Sure am praying that Amanda gets better soon so she can resume her normal activities.

Ruth ~ My hubby used to explain football to me and now if I watch a sport, I like football best.

Ruth Ann ~ I, too, have been thinking of Jeannine and Frank yesterday but thanks for reminding me to say another quick prayer.

Carol ~ Get some rest.  I remember how tired you get getting ready for the Book Sale.  Is it time to recruit a lot of helpers and you be the boss and they do the backwork?

Jeannine ~ My, that is a long surgery!  Eleven hours is a long time to wait to see your hubby and then when you do, it is scary to see him hooked up to everything and anything.  But remember, each day he will be better.  He is in God's healing hands...remember that!

Larry ~ I am counting!  I forgot to tell you I am avoiding Atlanta on the way down.  Going to go through Montgomery, AL and Dothan, AL then take I-10 to I-75.  New territory!!

I am all packed and keep thinking...oops!  I forgot so and so.  Then I go get it and put it in the suitcase or overnight bag.  Seems I always take way too much.

Ivalou and I are going to the bank in a few minutes and then to eat something.  Neither of us have much in the house to eat.  Then tonight I am driving us to Beef 'n' Boards.

Then tomorrow bright and early....well, it will still be dark...we are heading south.  So I will be outta here until March 2 or 3.  So hold down the fort for me!

God Bless You All!

Janet, thank you for that flash/demo of "If I die before I wake".  I have noted the URL in my favorites, and have passed it on to many friends to inspire them to remember our soldiers as well as President Bush, in their daily prayers.  I don't visit Christian Photographers site very often, but I am very glad that I did take the time today.

May you all have a Blessed day.

Etta Sue

We are having a heat wave!  Really!  I can't believe it is 45°.  Snow is melting...slowly but surely!

Hi, Mary Frances!  You are next.  The warmth is coming your way!

Janet

Good morning!  It was raining earlier, and I asked the Lord if it would be possible for it NOT to rain on our road.  :-\  Who would ever imagine that anyone in this area would feel anything but joy in seeing any kind of moisture?

Darrel is going back to the doctor again today.  The "crud" is still hanging on, and he also wants to get that shoulder X-rayed, and ask questions about it.  I do so hope he gets a good report.  I will go with him, and exercise while he sees the doctor.  We are not making any unnecessary trips down these awful roads. (Wish our county was rich enough to pave them all!)

Lots of nice posts since I was here yesterday.  I will come back and reply to them later; right now I must get ready to go.  I'm still in pj's and robe, been watching the 700 Club and Living the Life.  Nice to be able to not rush around EVERY morning!

Thanks to those of you who looked at If I Should Die Before You Wake.  God bless our troops, each and every one---and our President!

I must get going, be back later.

In regard to Ruth and yesterday's  adventure. She had left her walker in the kitchen, was trying to get to her walker to put it into the living room when she fell. She is not steady on her feet and doesn't use her walker in her mobile. I had talked and talked to her about using it all the time as well as wearing her lifeline at all times even in the shower.  She can be very stubborn about what SHE thinks she needs to do or can do.

There have been days that when I get there at 9 am she has gotten herself dressed and is sitting in her car waiting for me to come.  She is supposed to wait for me to get her dressed because sometimes she forgets to change her pull up diaper and we have to get her undressed and cleaned up.

Most days she does wait for me or has cleaned her self up. Her diaper is not  frequently  well you know. I just want her to have a clean one everyday. TMI again. Sorry about that

I was so nice to come home yesterday and not have to go back out and to  be slow this morning not having anyplace to go yet. I am having a 2nd  :coffee: and just enjoying my morning.

The maintenance guy will be here this afternoon to assess putting a ceiling fan in my kitchen and replacing my shower. I do doubt I will get the new shower anytime soon, they have been putting me off since Sept 05, one excuse after another or just plain forgetting about it. I really need that shower  this one leaks into the wall and flooring under the shower the bars around the sides are coming aways from the walls and were that way when I moved it, hence the early promise of it being replaced.

Pat

Hi friends!

Thanks for all the good wishes.  My time sitting here at the computer has been very limited in the last couple of weeks.  I really should get a wireless somethiing-or-other for my laptop and maybe then I could keep in touch while I'm lying in my bed.

Thanks Sue for clicking on the "Report" button.  That item is all taken care of.

Jeannine, how are YOU?  Please take care.  These are difficult days for you and I'm praying for you as you care for him.

I'm off now for awhile.

We are finally back home!  What a morning.  After Darrel saw the doctor, he had to go to the hospital for both shoulder and chest X-rays.  Then to the bank, drug store, and then we ate before coming home.  While Darrel was getting his X-rays, I took the car and washed it.  Of course we got it muddy again coming home.  >:  Doc says Darrel has signs of pneumonia now, so two more prescriptions.  And he is setting up an appointment with an orthopedic guy to check the shoulder.

Pat, good to see you pop in for a bit.  Rest and recover, we love and need you here. <3

Marilyn, elderly people usually do not like to have those garments called diapers, they prefer to call them "depends."  ;)  Poor lady must be confused.  It would be so scary to be alone, elderly and confused.  I'm glad for her that you got there when you did.

Mary Frances, how wonderful to see your pretty face!  And thanks for looking at the site, it is good, isn't it?  And we all need to be reminded to pray for our President, our troops and our country.  Come in and say hello more often, won't you?

Liz, give Amanda my love, and tell her this is a good opportunity to do more of her lovely artwork; that won't hurt her poor ankle.  My friend who broke her ankle says she will be hospitalized for quite some time.  I visited her this morning.

I must go and practice piano.  Gotta learn those notes and which keys they are!

I need to get off here and get stuff done!  Later, kids!

Jeannine, thanks for the update.

Etta Sue, if you're coming through Nashville, I'd love to meet you for a few moments, if nothing other than to share a hug or two. Have a great time in Florida.

I had a doppler scan of my right carotid artery this afternoon. The tech said she didn't think she saw anything, but the radiologist will read the report, then pass it along to the doctor, so eventually I'll hear if I need to find the local "roto rooter" plumbing company or not.

Janet, I enjoy playing the piano, and am thinking of selling my accoustic piano in favor of a keyboard with earphones, since my son can't stand the loud sounds that the piano makes - it gives him another one of those bad headaches. So, i can only play away from home and a person will quickly get out of practice not playing occasionally.

Pat, I'm so sorry to hear that you're not doing well physically. I truly hope that you'll be better than new soon.

Y'all have a wonderful evening.

Ruth Ann

Pat Kassie wants to know if you would like her to come down on Saturday to help you?  This is her suggestion.  John is coming down for another course Friday evening.

We have had an unusual day here today.  Kass has been a bit under the weather, and Elizabeth has been in top form.  She was up before the rest of us had 3 school subjects done by the time I got to the schoolroom, and we had a great time identifying birds.  We still don't know what kind of bird it was that we saw.   As a result she had a long time on the puter today.  Computer time is an earned priveledge.

We are having milder weather too.  The remp is almost at 32°F.  That means there is snow on the horizon.  I am not looking forward to that.

Well John is sitting relaxing and I am tired so I am off to dreamland.

God Bless JudyB
