Veteran's Day

Remember those who fought and died for Your freedom!

Pat ~ Sorry about the downtime of the site.  It must have gotten fixed right after I went to bed.  Thanks to Ian for all he does for the site!

Larry ~ I have been praying for Stacey, Pat and you.  What trials!

Janet ~ I have been praying for Beth, Darrel and you!  What trials!

Kevin ~ Thank you for the 'splainin'.  Now I understand.  It almost looks like two photos stitched together.  You live in a very photogenic area!

Nita ~ Sorry you were dizzy and couldn't go on with your plans.

Ivalou and I had a great time.  The weather was perfect!  The show 'Holiday Magic 2006' was 3 girls and 3 boys (at my age, they were boys and girls) who sang and danced to Christmas music.  The costume changes were fabulous!  Really wonderful.  The motel room was huge but Ivalou and I ate so much we declined the whirlpool.  I did get three pounds of fudge and had her put them in three packages.  She said to put each one in ziplock bags and keep in a cool place and they would still be fine for Christmas presents.  And lunch yesterday was another restaurant where there was no menu...the special was Spinach Bake, crescent rolls, salads, dainty cheesecakes and a drink.  Most of all, it was wonderful to go in these places and give them my coupons or gift certificates instead of green bills or plastic!  A wonderful day.  I figured it up and the photo I entered in the Indiana Historical Society and won a second place was worth $272 for me!  I can't depend on that every time I enter a contest, for sure!

Why is it when you are out, you have to go to WalMart?  Portland, Indiana, has a brand new Super WalMart.  The crafts area was superb.  And I finally found a reversible quilt for my bed.  Ivalou found one also.  So I told her I would buy hers.  She said she would buy mine!  So we each gave each other a reversible quilt for our beds!!  How's that for giving?

When we got home, it was still nice and warm out so I mowed the grass and leaves.  Then I did 4 loads of laundry since I just had to put the new quilt on my bed and wanted the whole bed fresh with clean linens.

Today is my outing with my classmates.  We are going to 'The Bank' in Pendleton.  It used to be a bank and has an original teller window at the entrance.  Reall tall ceilings and booths.  Wonderful food, too!

Hi everyone.  We don't have the sun here today but it still isn't too cool.  However, think our weather is changing and it will be cooler starting tomorrow.

Thanks for the messages concerning Veteran's Day.  I am not a Veteran but have only the highest respect for any men or women who wear the uniform or who stand behind those who do.  I had coffee this morning with one of my retired friends who had served at Iwo Jima.  We have a new generation of young people now in uniform to protect our countries from an enemy such as we have not experienced.  It is not our soldiers in our various countries who make the decisions on whether we go to war or not but they are the ones who answer the call and put their lives on the line for our countries.

Nita I had not heard of the program you mentioned for making DVDs from photos.

Pat, having something happen to the backbone of the Internet must be a nightmare for the folks who have the ISPs.  It is not something they can do anything about but have to deal with their customers when it happens.  Glad we are back online.  The internet is amazingly stable.

Janet, I am sure Beth is an inspiration to those around her who see her take what life has given her and make the best of it without undo complaints.  I think I am like you in not being sure I would be so patient but would hope I would be.

We need to leave the house so have to stop for now.

Hello!  Darrel decided we needed to go to the Reliv meeting, so we drove to Dodge this morning, got home around 2 this afternoon.  I hope the things to honor the Veterans here went well, and am sorry to have missed them.

My buddy Pat and I are going to attend the high school musical The Wizard of Oz tonight, with a dinner beforehand.  Should be a fun evening!

Thanks for the kind comments re Beth.  She was able to stand yesterday, or rather, to bear her weight once they got her vertical using the lift, so she can continue to use that one, a BIG relief to her (and me.)  Tuesday I will take her to a doctor in Dodge City to see about getting those braces done.

Etta Sue, you find the most interesting places to visit!  How fun!

Carol, glad progress is being made on your kitchen.  Won't it be great when you get everything all done and your stuff back so you can use it?  :)

Pat, thanks for the I Remember thread.  Never has supporting our troops been more vital than NOW!

Larry, hope you are feeling "fit as a fiddle" today! :)

I have some calls to make, better get with it!

I came back to add.....I tried several times last evening to get in, and decided the site was down.  Glad to see it is fixed now, and Pat, please thank Ian for the great job he is doing as our host.

Ruth Ann Bice

Hi, friends,

I'm SO thankful to be able to come here and stay as long as need demands. My son was awfully sweet about letting me use his computer, but it's in his bedroom, and I had to run him out to be able to use it.

My husband was in the Air Force and then one son was 16 years in the Air Force and another was in the Army for a number of years and then was called back up to serve in the first Gulf war. My heart swells with pride and patriotism on days like this, and always when I hear the Star Spangled Banner.

I had lunch at a mexican-themed restaurant today, then spent a bit of time with my daughter's cat - she's been away for several days attending an oncology nursing convention in Pittsburgh.

It's really chilly here in Nashville today. The high is only supposed to be in the low-mid 40s and the wind is sharp which, of course, makes that wind chill pretty low. Brrrrr.

Yet, it gets me into the holiday spirit more when it's getting cold and frosty outside.

I learned last Sunday that I'm going to be a grandma-in-law! I got to meet her, and she seems like just the right person for my grandson. They make a charming couple, and I'm extremely proud of him. He graduates with his pre-med and religion double major next month, then goes on to medical school after that. He's about settled on a school on St. Maarten Island in the Caribbean. They laughed and enouraged me to be certain to visit while they're there. We said, yes, Grandma could spend a few weeks with the kids in Atlanta, then go to England for a few weeks, then St. Maarten, etc.  :D So, I think the kids have my retirement already planned, when I'm not even certain when that will be!!!

My oldest son will be 45 in a couple of days. Goodness - how time flies.

Y'all have a good afternoon.

Pat

I do hope that you will put that in the Remembrance topic, Janet.  Thanks for that.

And Ruth Ann, it would be so nice if your comments about your husband and sons were in there as well.  Thanks!

It's been a very rainy day here in Guelph.

It has been a day of rain here but not enough to keep me home from a craft show.  I spent a little money but just really enjoyed the day with my Aunt.

Yes this is a day to remember, my father-in-law did serve in England but he never  shared his experiences as the memories were to much for him to bear. He also came home with injury's that he could live with but again he had times of severe pain.

Nita:  My husband now has the flu and he sure feels awful he spent most of the day in bed sleeping and now is wondering how well he will sleep tonight. If he feels like this Monday morning he will not be going to work.

Nita:  Thanks for the help I will check to see what is available in our area.  A fellow had also told me that perhaps I could use power point he called it easy but I really do not know.

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.  Proverbs 3:6

Marilyn

I was here again this morning and had a good sized post that got eaten so I gave up for the time being.

I enjoyed being at the craft show with Gilbert I stayed for about  hours.

When I went back to Mimi's this morning to feed the cats  They had a dead rat on the floor, so I picked it up by the tail and put it in the garbage can She has one cat that has feline HIV a he is the friendliest kitty. So I have spent some time petting him and cleaning his eye.

It as been rather chilly here today but I took the dogs out for their walk anyway.

Ruth Ann ~ So nice to see you posting again.   Loved the longer than usual post.

Marilyn ~ Seems like you are not only a caregiver but a catgiver as well.  It is nice when you have pets that when you have to leave, there is someone to take care of them for you.

Ruth ~ Sorry your husband is ill.  Praying that it doesn't last long and that he will be chipper soon.

Janet ~ Sounds like Beth is doing fairly well.  At least, where she is, it sounds like they are keeping her active.

Larry ~ I am like you.  I don't have anyone in my family that is a veteran.  My husband was in the Army but served when I was only 6-9 years old...he was 12 years older than me.

I am ready to go out the door for church as soon as I decided what outer wear to wear today.  Never know whether to wear a coat, a jacket, a poncho or a shirt in this weather!

Good Morning Nothing new here since I last posted.

This is the day the Lord hath made and I will rejoice and be glad in it.

Hi, friends,

I don't know why, but I couldn't awaken this morning. I feel so bad about missing church. However, I heard most of a good sermon on TV. But that's not like worshipping in the company of believers.

I've really wondered about this fad amongst the young guys of wearing the pants far too big for them. That minister explained it - when a prisoner is considered a flight risk, they have been forced to wear pants far too big for them so that it will slow them down in flight. Goodness - I wonder if the guys really realize what this fad is all about.

Well, must go for the afternoon. Y'all have a good day.

Carol

It has been a good Sunday.  We went to church last night and the music was lovely.  The new pastor has a very nice voice.  I have decided that I really need to think only about the good things about him - he is after all, a good person.  I bought two loaves of Christmas bread from the Mission - they always sell breads & cookies at this time of the year - and have frozen the loaves.  So many good causes that we just have to make decisions.

Pat:  I forgot to check your Remember place  :D - I will go in there next.

Marilyn:  It sounds like you had a nice evening visiting with Gilbert and the kids.

Larry:  We just watched some historical films on Iwo Jima and it was astonishing & simply so sad.

Janet:  Thanks for your salute to vets.

Ruth Ann:  You will surely have lovely places to visit - think about that retirement soon.

Ruth:  I hope that your hubby is feeling better.

Don was staining the window sills and dropped a can of stain but the floor isn't finished yet so all turned out alright.  We have been working right along with the fellow who is doing the kitchen, run errands & pick up stuff & lift & the lifting for Don has made me nervous.  No worker came on Saturday as promised & he says he will be here Tuesday.  I am able to wash & dry clothes so that makes me happy but no oven, sink & so dinners have been different.  Do have a little microwave downstairs so we get hot drinks and hot instant cereal & go out sometimes.

Wishing everyone a very good week.
Carol

Hello everyone, I have been around just not up to typing much. The Dr has already told me that it is strictly bedrest for the remander of the pregnancy.  :( This is a lot sooner than when I had Danny, but I guess I shall obey. Anyways other than that things are going great. Jacob is taking some time off of work to help with everything around the house and Danny is taking it well. He lays down and takes naps with me. Anyways Jacob is yelling at me to get off the computer and back to bed  :-[ I am so lucky to have such a caring husband. I will be on later.
Love you all,
Trisha

Janet

Dear Trisha, do take care of yourself!  I'm sorry that you must go on bedrest so soon, but this time will seem short years from now, when you look back on it, with your dear little girl at your side.  (((hugs)))

We had a really good sermon this morning, entitled "8 Things God wants the Church to be filled with" (Or similar words.)  This afternoon, Darrel and I went to the care home to help with the singing for the folks.  That's always a rewarding thing to do.

Carol, I enjoyed your tribute to the many vets in your family in the other thread.

I attended the high school musical The Wizard of Oz last night, and have to say, those kids did a wonderful job!!  I'm even more impressed after watching the 1939 movie with Judy Garland this evening!!  They followed that script to a T, and their acting was superb!  Especially for high school kids.  WOW.

Nothing newsworthy here, so will close.  See you tomorrow!
