Morning Devotional...Psalm 8:6-8. "You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands. You have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen - even the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea that pass through the paths of the seas."Plainly stated, these verses tell us that mankind is special - lord of the earth and ruler of nature. He's capable of beautifying it or of destroying it.
Unfortunately for creation, Adam - along with all the rest of us - failed. The earth is indeed showing the effects of that failure, and it would be easy to assume a dismal conclusion for everything.
But that's not God's purpose! There is one Man Who did not fail! God says of that Man that "He must reign until He (God the Father) has put all enemies under His feet. (1 Cor. 15:25) The "enemies" are all that oppose God's glorious purpose. They're all going to be placed under the feet of our Lord Jesus Christ!
If you are even now bowing at His feet and calling Him Lord, then you will see and welcome Him at His final coming to rule and reign! (Rev. 20:6) You will experience the true and final triumph of man in the eternal triumph of your Lord Jesus Christ! (see also Rom. 18-21)

Oh, I love that chorus, Al! I have it playing here now as I type.
Thanks also for the good devotional this evening.
Who's Thankful?
Can you take any photos of things, people, items, places that you are thankful for?
Let's see them in the Challenge!
Pat: I am thankful for the beautiful music I could listen to this morning - thanks to Al!
This house is in a wild state right now as we took everything out of the kitchen and new cabinets arrive today - that doesn't mean that we will get them put up today or this week - we hope to find out today when the kitchen work begings.
Carol
Carol, I don't wish anything bad upon you, but I must admit - I'm glad it's you, not me! I'm gettin' too old for that sort of thing! May our Father bless you with strength and patience!
Carol, are you doing the work yourself or is someone else doing it for you? We are going to gut our kitchen sometime in January and hope to do it ourselves (Oh joy! ???) Terry seems to think he can have it finished in a weeks time.
He seems to be doing better spiritually and physically, and I appreciate all the prayers sent in his behalf. Y'all are a great group of people and even though I don't post every day, I really enjoy reading about everyone and the things you all are doing.
I'm still working on my new camera and have taken lots of pictures of my kids, but they are not all that good.
Bless you all,
Samantha
Good Morning I see we have changed the title to Thoughts for the Week from NEM. I like that.
Carol winter time and not Abe to use your kitchen, oh my. How are you preparing your meals?
Good devotional Al thanks.
Today I am not going to work out until around noon. I am going to clean the Stockwell's house today instead of last Friday, after my Tai Chi class., then go workout, I have to d some vacuuming in my own hose today since I didn't do it on Saturday.
See y-all later.
Hello everyone! I don't know how many of you remember me but I am Trisha. I haven't been on the site in awhile because I have been busy with my son Daniel (aka Danny) husband Jacob and the one to be expected (we believe it to be a girl). Want to know anymore just ask.
Have a wonderful day
Trisha

Hi, Trisha! I remember you! So number two is on the way. Do you have any photos to post of your new family? When is that little believed to be a girl due? Oh, I am glad you stopped in!
Not much on the home front today. Not envying Carol and the mess in her house. I have messy enough house at it is.
It was cold walking the trash to Kaye Don's drive today. I don't like wishing my life away but I wish it were March and winter was over. Snow is beautiful if you are on the inside looking out! But I think I would take mowing to shoveling any day! o0^0o_o0^0o_o0^0o_o0^0o_o0^0o_o0^0o_o0^0o_o0^0o_o0

Hi, Trisha. It's good to see you again. :) I'm sure you're busy. I know when I know when my kids were still kids and home, I was really busy.
Speaking of Bible versions. I was "raised" on the Living version. I didn't meet Jesus until I was 40. My kids had gotten me a Bible not too long before. I can't remember if I'd asked for one, or they were just desperate, but they gave me the Living Bible version. I devoured the Words as I fell in love with Jesus. Mostly I devoured the Words as He poured His love into me. I marked, highlighted, cried over, caressed, kissed, and hugged the Words written in my green padded Bible. This was all before I'd ever been to church, and with no Christian friends. I've often said that I think, at that time, and in my innocent so in love with Jesus feelings, He would have commanded a Montgomery Ward's Catalog to proclaim His love for me. I need to know that. Oh, how I needed to believe that. So I have my torn, and marked Living Bible on my book shelf. Now I have more versions, and seldom read that one. Sometimes when I feel the depth of His Love all over again, I still clasp that old Bible, Living version, to my heart and cry out my awe and gratitude for someone like Him, looking for me, finding me, choosing me, and then pouring all His love into me.
It's the supernatural power of God, it's His supernatural Love, it's the Holy Spirit alone who contains us and keeps us from error. I, too, would be hesitant to give a new believer a King James. I want them to know Jesus in a way that speaks to their own hearts, in their own language. More than anything, I want them to know the sound of His voice speaking to them alone. :) I want them to feel the warmth of His own heart when they are with Him. This comes before Bible training, and this is what keeps us. If every Written Word disappeared, we would know Him, because we have KNOWN Him. God is ever speaking.
I didn't mean to come and post this. :) You don't have to read it if it's too long. haha
Al, I really like that song! It's really powerful, isn't it?
Gotta go watch the wind in the trees. Blessings, Nita

My dear, dear Nita. Your post is why I love you so! That's the kind of posts on SeniorNet that I grew to love way, way back in the 1990's Never stop writing them.
As for versions, I really don't mind what a person reads but I do wonder how we have had in the past such great preachers like Moody, Billy Graham, Tozer, John Gill, etc. when they used nothing but the older versions. Great Christians have been on this earth and grew to love their Saviour as the Holy Spirit spoke to them through the word. I never saw anything but a King James version till I went to Bible School. And I loved reading them but always came back to my own precious Bible for my quiet times. So really, the Holy Spirit does help with the difficult words. ;)
I must tell you a very short story about a person named "Quasi". Dr. Quasi Agerman is from Ghana and currently resides there but at the time of this story, he was a philosophy professor in York University in Toronto. He's written many essays and long articles trying to prove that there is no God.
We met Quasi and he and Jack became close friends and he used to travel from Toronto to Guelph a couple of times a week just to speak with Jack about the bible and to argue with Jack that he (Jack) knew nothing about what he was speaking about. :)
He was given a Gospel of John to read and he read this. He came back one day and we saw that that little gospel was so dog-eared and torn from heavy use that Jack (being a Gideon back then) gave him a Gideon New Testament which also became quite dog-eared over the next couple of weeks.
To shorten the story, Jack went out and bought Quasi (whose mother tongue was definitely not English being from Ghana and spoke with a very, very heavy accent) a King James Bible and Quasi read that along with a Greek and Hebrew Bible which he could read like we read English!
Quasi was saved! Jack had the privilege of baptizing Quasi and it's an experience that Jack never stopped speaking of. As Quasi went under the water, his face broke out into the broadest of grins and smiles and his white teeth against his dark skin was a site that Jack described as so beautiful to see.
Quasi came up out of the water and shouted, "Hallelujah!" and did some kind of a little jig from Ghana and he's never stopped smiling since I don't think.
But this is just a wee incident to show that it really is possible to use older versions. I am NOT one of the folks who say that the King James version is the only one. I've said that I use quite often the New King James and now am using the "English Standard Version" as I'm going through the Book of Romans. I would never hesitate to give a new believer or someone that the Lord is drawing close to Himself, a King James version or the NKJV.
Lots of time now I use the New King James and that's nice as well. But for me, the word that I'm reading or listening to on tape MUST BE SOUND DOCTRINALLY. I (and I'm speaking only for myself) cannot abide by any version that is consistently different from the original Greek or Hebrew that it was written in.
Anyway, my dear Nita. I love your post. Keep looking up my friend. You have no idea how much of an encourager you've been to me over the years--when Jack was so ill, after he died and even now as I read your lovely messages in here.
AND... I love your photography!
Al,
Thanks for the good Word today.
Nita,
Wonderful testimony, and so nicely written! And not nearly long enough! Write more!
Pat,
Thanks for sharing about Quasi! Thank God for His saving power!
I am off today and tomorrow. Time to recharge :laff:
This is what I'll be chewin' on this morning...
Now that we know what we have—Jesus, this great High Priest with ready access to God—let's not let it slip through our fingers. We don't have a priest who is out of touch with our reality. He's been through weakness and testing, experienced it all—all but the sin. So let's walk right up to him and get what he is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help.
In His Grip,
Kevin
Hard to follow the magnificent posts from Nita and Pat
I can't tell you how much it means when someone acknowledges my menial postings of the day. It it absolutely a sweet feeling that someone cares. And, it doesn't have to be done all of the time. Just once in a blue moon -
Al: Thanks for the prayer for strength. Ever since Don had a silent heart attack 1 1/2 years ago, he does tire easily and after moving something heavy, he takes a break - thank heaven!
Samantha: A week would be really fast - can't imagine it going that fast here as there are two different companies doing the work - one for counter-top & floors. good for your guy! That is really nice news.
Marilyn: We have a portable microwave & a little sink in the basement & the refrigerator is supposed to be put in the garage. We can make it work. Have a little freezer there as well so just planning on cereal & easy food & hope it doesn't take too long. There is a BBQ grill outside. Winter? It is about 70 degrees & sunny outside now so I raked leaves & Don is power washing the sidewalk & we hope it stays nice.
Trisha: When is the new baby due?
Etta Sue: I haven't even started thinking of Christmas and all - don't wish it over too quickly.
Nita: Your story is amazing. It is always a treat to read/listen to someone touched by the Spirit.
Here is my question for anyone. How should I, as a Christian, feel about the death penalty? There are some vile people out there and I just don't know how my feeling SHOULD lean, or if I go with my heart and head. I read that the Pope is against the death penalty for Saddam & then started wondering once again - why do I look at it differently & so forth. I'll come back later to see if anyone has posted an answer.
Carol
My goodness, so much food for thought here today!
Nita, I LOVE your postings, and thank you for sharing your beautiful and unique testimony with us. I agree, it could be longer, and I would savor every word!
Kevin, I enjoy what you have to say each day, and agree that a person will read the version of the Word which speaks to him/her in their own language. I'm now in those "senior years" and the KJV is the one I memorized many verses from as a child, so that's the reason I have such a fondness for it. Other versions are more easily understood, though.
Nita, the Living Bible is the one I first read all the way through, and I enjoyed it so much! Mine is also the green padded one. :) ;)
When a person is truly hungry for the Word and the Love of God, I think any version will speak to his heart!
Carol, I hope your kitchen won't be torn up for too long! But I know the end result will be something you will really enjoy. And it will be much easier to deal with, without having to try to prepare meals in the midst of it, and simple eating can be a good thing.
TRISHA!! I am SO happy to see you posting! You, Jacob, Danny and now the maybe girl........such a lovely little family! I am still attempting to restore my MSN and Yahoo contacts. I really miss chatting with you and Jacob. Also miss my overseas contacts. :( :'( I really miss Mieka---if you peek in, Mi, I love you! <3
Good devotional today, Al. And by the way, you're only as OLD as you feel! (How old is that, anyway?) ;)
Etta Sue, have you ever tried mowing snow? Wonder if that might work instead of using a snow blower? It has warmed up nicely again here, for how long is anybody's guess.
Pat, thanks for sharing the story about Quasi, I enjoyed that a lot.
I have had a really busy day, and must get back to it.
Lots of interesting posts here today. The KJV is the one I memorized verses from as a child and he one I have now has all the pronunciation marks in it, I often go to t for correct pronunciation of the names. Our Sunday school teacher uses the Amplified and my pastor uses the NLT. This year I am currently reading the New Century version. Out women's' Bible study teacher used the NIV. I have all of those and also a parallel KJV and NLT that I hardly ever use. I like the message and have that too. Also an Nasb and and RSV. I think I have about 6 or 7 versions.
'
My NKJV that I was given when I got saved Bebe got hold of that one and ate some and tore up some, so she is my Holy dog. I loved that one and that is the one I could not stop reading I caressed it hugged it kissed it and cried over it.
Nita I had heard a little of your testimony from Jane when she was down here the last time. You have an awesome testimony.
Well I am going to the Chirporactor again this afternoon, the one I wen to last week messed up my neck and I have to get Dr. Bill here in Mckinleyville to fix it.. Tomorrow night I am going to a sit down catered dinner business meeting for Univera.
TTYL
Carol, do you have any before and after photos of your renovation? I'd like to see them.
Hi Marilyn... That's too bad about Bebe getting your "sword"! ;)
Kevin, you have a wonderful day. Get lots of photos. I'm so enjoying them.
Janet, feeling better? ;)
Trisha, if you look in, WELCOME!!!
I'm sure I've forgotten someone but please forgive. Not intentional.
Thoughts for the Week...
So, as many of you have noticed, the Admin and Mods have decided that since not so many folks have been posting for several months in here each day, we've gone to a once per week topic and we've changed the name to "Thoughts for the Week".
It's been a great deal of work for those of us doing the devotional to post it and have only 7 or 8 different folks read it or comment so we hope you'll enjoy this.
And I want to say a great big Thank You to Etta Sue who has worked very, very hard today in designing our special graphic for the first post.
Thanks so much Etta Sue!
And during the week, if you have any little thoughts you'd like to discuss or add (like the fantastic ones Kevin adds each day), please feel free to do this.

Words & Music: Alfred H. Ackley, 1887-
I serve a risen Savior, He's in the world today;
I know that He is living, whatever men may say;
I see His hand of mercy, I hear His voice of cheer,
And just the time I need Him, He's always near.
Refrain
He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today!
He walks with me and talks with me along life's narrow way.
He lives, He lives, salvation to impart!
You ask me how I know He lives?
He lives within my heart.
In all the world around me I see His loving care,
And though my heart grows weary, I never will despair;
I know that He is leading thru all the stormy blast,
The day of His appearing will come at last.
Refrain
Rejoice, rejoice, O Christian, lift up your voice and sing
Eternal hallelujahs to Jesus Christ the King!
The Hope of all who seek Him, the Help of all who find,
None other is so loving so good and king.
Refrain

HYMN HISTORY:
Rev. Alfred Ackey (1887-1960) was preaching during an evangelistic crusade. After the service he was trying to persuade a young man to give his heart to Christ, when the man said, "Why should I worship a dead Jew?" Ackey stated, "HE LIVES! I tell you, He is not dead, but lives here and now! Jesus Christ is more alive today than ever before. I can prove it by my own experience, as well as the testimony of countless thousands." Later that evening the young man gave his heart to Christ. It was during this experience that Ackey wrote not only the words but also the tune for our hymn, "He Lives."

I have so enjoyed reading about the different versions we all read.
I, too, have the green padded Living Bible. I will confess, I never looked at it much. Given to me at a time when I didn't think God needed to be in my life. Then I got the NIV version and have read it through 2-3 times. I have the KJV and I will always say The Lord's Prayer and the 23rd Psalm in the KJV. I read daily for my devotions the CEV...Contemporary English Version. And now I have The Message in my purse and read it while waiting for the nurse to call me into the room, for food at a restaurant or any place while waiting for something. Truthfully when I see the words Thee and Thou and Ye, I am programmed that I will not understand the rest of the sentence so why try. I shouldn't be that way but that's the way it is. Reads like an insurance policy for me. So I am thankful that in this day and age that we have several versions of the Bible and that anyone seeking the Lord will find a version that they will read and understand and grow closer to Christ each and every day.
My church used to use the NIV...we have the verses printed on the overhead screen with Power Point. But since Rick Warren came out with 'The 40 Days of Purpose' and used about every version of the Bible in his book, my church uses different versions also.
So many versions of the Bible has just came out in the last 50 years....maybe that is why there hasn't been many 'famous' preachers using versions other than KJV. I know Danny, our teen and post-teen minister said he grew up with NIV. So maybe we are too old or not young enough!!
And Janet ~ Remember my fiasco when mowing leaves? I have no idea what snow would do to my mower!
And Carol ~ I wouldn't mind having Christmas in 70°F weather. Better yet, let's keep it 70°F until Christmas Eve evening. Then before midnight, lets get a big snow...the kind that the flakes float to earth...big flakes. Then we can open presents and eat Christmas dinner looking out the windows at the new fallen snow. Then when we wake up the 26th, it is 70°F again!! How's that for a dream?
Wow Etta Sue you really are dreamin' 70° the snow and back to 70°all in a matter of 24 hours. :
Bebe also got hold of my first NIV that one has been replaced but idon't have an NKJV at all anymore.
Nothing esle to talk about from here.
I've really been thinking about all that's been said the last day or two about versions. I use the NKJV. One of my seminary profs was on one of the committees doing the NIV, so we got first-hand info on how they were going about it. There are two philosophies (with variations) on translation. In one, the person(s) doing it reads the Greek version of approximately a phrase or paragraph, asks himself what it said, and types it out as his translation. It takes more work than that, but that's the basic idea. In the othere method, the person(s) reads the Greek words and translates each one into the closest possible equivalent in English.
The former method is actually not really, strictly, translation - it's interpretation, for the translator is asking him/herself what a phrase/para. means. When that's done, then it's fairly easy to make a modern version, because the meaning just naturally comes out in the phrase-by-phrase or paragraph-by-paragraph translation. The other method still needs smoothing out before it's truly readable in English, though in most cases it's a more accurate translation, though perhaps a bit "wooden."
Then there's also the matter of what you're translating - which manuscripts you consider to be the good ones, etc. Most of our modern versions are translated from manuscripts that rely heavily on what's called the Siniaticus or upon the other popular one, the Vaticanus. These are not really early manuscripts. The Siniaticus is a 5th cen. one, and the Vaticanus (Latin) is in the same era. The KJV and NKJV versions rely heavily upon an entirely different manuscript background. They really rely very heavily upon the Peshita version, an ancient Syriac version of the NT. The Peshita version was used by many in the Byzantine Empire for several hundred years. The Greek translations of it are quoted by very, very early writers, including at least one disciple of the Apostle John. The last part of the Lord's Prayer is an excellent example ("For Thine is the power...). The Siniaticus/Vaticanus leave this out entirely, but the older Greek writings have it entirely.
I like the NKJV ecause it takes advantage of all the latest archeological finds, etc, while maintaining integrity with the Byzantine text. For these reasons, I feel it's the most accurate, though perhaps not the most readable.
We ought not to depend upon "easy-reading" versions for the conversion of our friends/loved ones, though. The Holy Spirit - alone - is the One Who does the work. Let's depend upon Him. All that being said, though, I still like to use some of the modern versions as helps to understanding, as they make good commentaries.
So there you have my thoroughly biased opinion! And, by the way, if any of you are using one of my least-favorite versions, then, by all means, READ ON! ENJOY! LOVE YOUR LORD!

Etta Sue, I'm with you. Snow at Christmas would be so beautiful. Big floating flakes, and not slushy rain/snow/sleety stuff. Yep, I'm with you. :) Oh, yes...and just for the rest of you, 70 degree weather right after. lol
We are having rain and wind, that's not unusual, but the warm weather is. There has been flooding, I saw on the news, but not here.
Pat, I like the new name for this discussion. I like Thoughts For The Week. I'm trying to understand about the once a week topic. Does that mean we have to talk about one thing for a week? You know us.. Nita
Hi, Al. You posted while I was editing. :)
And, Etta Sue. I really like your graphic to go with the new name.
Hi everyone. I really like the new graphic that Etta Sue has prepared for our new "Thoughts for the Week". I think was a very good idea as it will be less burdensome for those preparing and having the responsibility for posting these headings. We would probably all benefit by more than one reading of the Thoughts anyway.
Nita, what a wonderful testimony you have given today. Having grown up in the church and accepting Christ at a fairly early stage in my life I find your testimony particularly powerful.
Pat, thanks for sharing your special recollections today concerning Jack's ministry with the man from Ghana.
Once again I have enjoyed the discussions from several of you regarding the version of the Bible that you have and read. I also have several different versions and am going to get a good leather bound Bible in the near future. I have looked at several and think I want one that is a study Bible. We have a fine Bible bookstore and a very nice young man spent considerable time showing me various versions of the Bible. The last few months I have started to attend the midweek Bible study with our minister which I have found very good and something that I needed. We also have a very good Sunday School class and we have been studying the books of the Bible.
Marilyn, sure hope the chiropractor is able to help your neck as know you have said you have been feeling better. Are you enjoying your new garage?
Janet, like you the verses of the Bible I learned as a child were from the KJV and I am sure that is what I will always remember.
Carol, I always enjoy your postings as you and Don have such a busy and active family life with your children and grandchildren. I don't envy you having your kitchen torn up but sure you will feel it was worthwhile when you get the project completed and have everything back in place.
Trisha, I certainly do remember you and it is nice to see you posting again. It is nice that you little one will soon have a sibling.
We had a very nice day today as we picked up our daughter at the bus station this morning and she came to the house for a few minutes. We then went out to eat and took her to the grocery store. She is to start her job next week but still has to eat this week so she should be fixed up until Thanksgiving. I then took her to her apartment and we had about an hour to visit before I had to come back home. God is truly blessing her at this time as she looks to him to direct her life and help her get her life back.
This evening we celebrated our son's 43rd birthday (which was actually on Oct 25th). We took he and his wife out to eat. They will be over tomorrow after some doctor appointments and we will have lunch together.
So it has been a good day.
What a great discussion!
Al, I thoroughly enjoyed your disertation about the various versions.
Nita, no, we don't have to talk about the same thing for a week! If someone has something to share tomorrow, please do.
BE THANKFUL FOR:

can't speak.
Before you complain about the taste of your food, think of someone

Before you complain about your husband or wife, think of someone

Today before you complain about life, think of someone who went too

Before you complain about your children, think of someone who desires

Before you argue about your dirty house someone didn't clean or

Before whining about the distance you drive, think of someone who

they had your job.
But before you think of pointing the finger or condemning another,

And when depressing thoughts seem to get you down, put a smile on

Life is a gift
Live it...
Enjoy it...
Celebrate it...
And fulfill it.
Janet, that's lovely. I'm going to copy that and keep a copy in my Bible.
Good evening!
I am waiting for dinner, and it smells soooo good. Today was a restful day. Very nice. I got some reading in, took some pictures, wrestled with Jazz, helped Midori with this and that, and was I was fairly lazy, too. ;D
With all the discussion about Scripture lately, I thought this might be appropriate. It's something I read just minutes ago.
Scripture is not about us, either. It is about God. God has revealed God's self to us in scripture so that we might know and respond to God, understand where we are in God's creation, what it means to be called into a life of God's salvation. We do not primarily read scripture in order to develop a better self-image, or to discover the hidden treasures in our lives. Scripture is not about us. Basically, we are listening to God revealing God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. We do, in fact, find ourselves included. We are addressed, we are invited, we are commanded, we are promised, we are immersed in a world where God rules and saves and blesses—us.by Eugene Peterson, from his article, "Transparent Lives".
In His Grip,
Kevin
A very good idea to change to a week format.
We were told that someone to work in the kitchen would be here as soon as the cabinets arrive. They did. Now, after the kitchen is entirely emptied, we have been told that our house is "penciled in" for the 20th of this month. Needless to say, Don told them what we were led to believe & is actually written on the order but now that man is on a vacation. Oh, yoy!
Janet: I just know that it will end sometime. Thanks for your list of things to be thankful about.
Marilyn: Good Luck with your neck problem. A pain in the neck hinders too many things.
Pat: This may take some time but I will try to remember to send you an after picture. The walls used to me a green color that I did like, but now the color of wheat. I like this lighter color better.
Etta Sue: It won't stay this warm, that is for sure. We don't mind snow except if we have to get on the freeway & you know how everyone else is aiming for you.
Nita: I always remember Thanksgiving time being so stormy in Seattle - losing power & everything. I certainly hope you don't have that kind of month.
Larry: Nice note about your daughter and bless her new beginnings. We go to Wednesday evening study & the retired pastor leads us in writings he chooses - none of us have cared for this last one but it is good to learn something new & he is a friend as well. I would like to get involved in another weekly bible study as well but they are on Wed. morning and I also go to Wed. quilting at the church - it would mean three trips there in one day so I hesitate. Need that study though so I might do it later.
It sure is dark in the mornings now.
Carol
Good Mornng:
janet what a wonderful article you have posted.
Carol my neck is all better now that Dr. Bill ixed it yesterday.
Here is an excerpt of someting I received in my email this morning. You may have seen it before.
George Carlin's Views on Aging
This was writitin shortly after his wife passed away.
HOW TO STAY YOUNG
1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay "them "
2. Keep only cheerful friends . The grouches pull you down.
3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain idle. "An idle mind is the devil's workshop." And the devil's name is Alzheimer's.
4. Enjoy the simple things.
5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.
6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person, who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive
7. Surround yourself with what you love, whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. ! Your home is your refuge.
8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.
9 Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county; to a foreign country but NOT to where the guilt is.
10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.
AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
But do share this with someone. We all need to live life to its fullest each day!!
Well, I went to my chiropractor yesterday. I had lower back pain, couldn't bend over much at all. He fixed it, then had me spend 15 minutes on an ice (blue ice) pack, then sent me on my way. Voila! I'm feeling much better today! Thank You for such mercy, Father. Now Marbeth has a cold, so now we've got to get rid of that. All human illnesses came in when the first sin was committed. I'm very glad to remember that all human illnesses will depart when our Lord returns!
Good Morning,
To answer some questions, the baby is due in January. Jacob and Danny are doing well. Danny is 16 months and is learning to talk and walk and what not lots of bumps and bruises but he is awesome. Things around here a pretty hectic most days so I stay at home. Other than that things are going good life is going alright and my family is well. Danny is calling for some attention so I must go.
Love,
Trish

Good morning. Raining in Indiana. Dark and gloomy on election day!
I have come to the conclusion that those who prefer the KJV or NKJV are those who have been to seminary school and/or accepted Christ as a youngster or grew up in church. I grew up in church but stopped 'growing' when I reached my 20's. I was away from the church for 35 years...a fact that I am not proud of at all. When I got thirsty for the Word, I was fortunate to find an easy reading version of the Bible. Through reading the NIV, I came to know Jesus Christ. But the bottom line...in my point of view...is to believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God...that Christ gave his life for you...that you want His presence in your life...you want Christ in your heart...you want forgiveness for the wrongs you have done and most of all, you want Christ to give you His gift of eternal life. If you believe all those things, what difference does it make what version of the Bible you read? People who are illiterate, blind, deaf, handicapped in all manners can receive those promises if they accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
I have been printing calendars for Christmas presents for my family. I add the names and ages on the dates, names and their deaths on the dates, names and year of marriages on the dates and some even personal data on the dates. It is fun but would be 'funner' if my printer didn't act up sometimes!! Also the pages slide into sliders with magnets on the back and you place them on your refrigerator. We all go to the refrigerator daily, don't we?
Thanks to all who commented on the "Thoughts for the Week" graphic. I think I did the graphic at least 10 times but now I am pleased with it as well as Pat. ~@~@~@~@~@~@~@~@~@~@~@~@~@~@~@~@~@~@ (https://www.christianphotographers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fhome.earthlink.net%2F%7Eettasue9842%2Fsitebuildercontent%2Fsitebuilderpictures%2Fmyhst.gif&hash=07abd5b2c7aad1ff803c4d97de10a2ba818e2e0e)
I like the switch to a "weekly" devotional also. For those of us that don't manage to stop in on a daily basis...it makes the "catching up" process a little less daunting.
I'm still getting over a cold but so far, have had a productive day. Got the kitchen tidied up before leaving for work and some laundry done, so the chores this evening may be a lessened a little. I am supposed to go to aquafit this evening but I think I may pass as I am still not feeling up to snuff and getting wet and sweaty and then coming out to a cold car to come home might not be wise.
Have a good day everyone.
Yes, Etta Sue, the graphic is really nice!
I need to comment to all of you, but the clock is relentlessly ticking, and I must go pick up Beth and take her to Hugoton to the dentist. I am hoping he doesn't have to refer her to an oral surgeon. :(
Larry, lest I forget, my heart is rejoicing with you over your daughter and the changes in her life. Tough love is.........well........tough, but sometimes it is the only way to go. God bless you, dear brother.
Gotta run!
Today is election day. I just finished working a half day at the polls. What a turnout. I left at 1:30 and we were WELL ahead of of the primary turnout for the entire day.
I trust all of you have voted or plan to.
Ed
Thanks Etta Sue ... I love the new graphic  Also this quote:

We are in direct line for the "Pineapple Express" and getting lots of wind and rain. There's flooding around the area but Nita and I both live on hills so I am "high and dry" as long as I stay inside and only observe God's wonders through the window! ;)
I notice there is flooding in Snohomish County in Washington. We lived there when I was a kid. In fact, I still remember the winter when both rivers (on either side of the point of land where we lived) flooded. My Dad even "drowned" the family car when he tried to get to work. There was a dip where our driveway met the road and the old Dodge forget to dodge. Daddy had to be rescued by some men in a boat! We kids were okay with all that ... we couldn't get to school!!
Jane - and I thought your education was complete . . .
Hi everyone. Just watching the news on the flooding in Oregon and Washington. Sure a shame to see such destruction and resulting suffering.
Our son and daughter-in-law were here for lunch today and he helped with a few projects we had on the "list". When they moved they gave us one of their big screen TV's (54 inch) but we had never been satisified with it as the picture was filmy and not fun to view. He took off something in the back and cleaned the three color guns, the Mirror and the back of the projection screen and it is now just fine. He also helped me connect a KVM switch on my computer so I can use two computers with one monitor, keyboard and mouse. This will allow me to use my old computer and I plan on experimenting with the new Vista last beta release and then am going to install a Linux system on it and play around with that operating system.
It has been rainy and foggy here all day. I am looking forward to watching the election returns later this evening. It should be an interesting evening. I was glad that Pat and I had been able to vote last week as we have voting the week before the general election here.
Tomorrow morning is Bible study and tomorrow night is choir practice.
Janet, I forgot to mention that I really liked the thing you posted.
Etta Sue. You did calenders last year too; didn't you? (can you put a semicolon there, or should it be a comma? Jane would know. haha) What I wanted to say, however, is that last year when you said you were making calenders, I thought that was such a neat idea. I'd like to do that. You should email me, my sweet, sweet, sharing sister, and tell me exactly how you do it. :) Did you find the Chaoscope site ok? Pretty cool, huh?
I sat most of the morning, feeling so dearly the Presence of The Lord, watching the wind and rain, reading the Word, pondering, talking, listening, singing, loving. It was such a precious time. I know we are to have those times frequently, but I confess I haven't. And the simple truth is that I don't take the time to be still and listen to what God wants to share with me. And He does want to tell us things. He does. Not just directions for the day, but intimate things spoken over your heart that change you in an instant. You know what I mean. And you are more in love than ever before, because you are more assured of His incomparable love for you.
The last few days, I've felt this new love. I know it's Him. I can't woo myself, can't woo God, but oh, when He begins to do the wooing, how can I resist. My heart enlarges within me, and I find myself smiling again...all the time. And evidently, I'm wordier. haha
This afternoon I had a doctor's appt, so got that taken care of, got my flu shot too, picked up a few groceries and came home again. It's still raining, but the wind has died down.
Jane, I'm glad we are on hills. I dont' know when high tide is supposed to be here, but I'm sure the lower streets will flood during that time.
Larry, there is just such a deep joy in seeing our children's lives change for the better. I know it must make you feel better all over. I'm still praying for my son who has an alcohol addiction. I know there will be "that day" when he will be delivered and celebrating the Lord's joy. I know I'll be celebrating!! :) In the mean time.....God is good to our family. He's shown such mercy over and over.
Nita
I think we skipped autumn and went right into winter here. I need another cup to get warmed up. :coffee:
Today, I am thankful that Jesus is my Priest. <3
From Hebrews 5
Every high priest selected to represent men and women before God and offer sacrifices for their sins should be able to deal gently with their failings, since he knows what it's like from his own experience. But that also means that he has to offer sacrifices for his own sins as well as the people's.
No one elects himself to this honored position. He's called to it by God, as Aaron was. Neither did Christ presume to set himself up as high priest, but was set apart by the One who said to him, "You're my Son; today I celebrate you!" In another place God declares, "You're a priest forever in the royal order of Melchizedek."
In His Grip,
Kevin

should have said we couldn't get to school
until the waters receded! Hey there, Nita  I like it when you "get wordy" ;) (p.s. a comma would be fine :))
Nita I love you Sister you have such a sweet spirit. One of these days I will get myself up to Coos Bay and meet you. I doubt I will be traveling anytime soon especially in this rain. Did you send it here by any chance? :-\
Hi Jane I love you too.
I will be out of here soon. I had my hair trimmed and Candle stick trimmed too, she ha a lot of time before her next customer so she fixed up my hair real purty for tonight.
C~U~Manana
Marilyn, what in the world is "candle stick trimmed?" Never heard that one before. Feels good to get our hair fixed, doesn't it?
Etta Sue, I think those calendars would be SO nice! Mind sending me a copy when you 'splain it to Nita? Thanks!
Nita, you just be wordy all you want in here. I love it! Your love for and joy in the Lord shines through each word, blessing us as we read them.
One lady who works in the county clerk's office here told us last night that there had been the biggest turnout of advance voters yet in this county. Of course, there was a local issue on the ballot---whether or not to build a new hospital; or, rather, to renovate and build an addition to the hospital, at a total cost of $24 million. We just approved to build a new care home. Don't know yet if the measure passed or failed on the hospital.
Larry, good for your son! I'll bet that is just what our TV needs to get it to have a clear picture again! Grandson Curtis is now working in a TV repair shop, guess we can ask him to have a go at it. Thanks for the tip!
Hey, Jane! I think Al enjoys teasing you. ;)
Thank God, Beth's TMJ problem is much improved, so the dentist said see you in four months for regular checkup and cleaning. She (Beth) wanted to do a little shopping, so I took her to a couple of stores, then to Diane's store, before we came home. She needs to get out occasionally.
I am unusually sleepy for this time of evening...... ^-^

Yup .... That's a fer shur thing, Janet! You should be around when he, Marilyn and Marbeth and I are all together in the same place at the same time ... not necessarily of the same mind or on the same page, tho!
I have felt sleepy most of the day. I think it's because the sound of the rain lulls a person to sleep (or at least it does this person.).
Hey Marilyn  Where ya goin' all purtied up like that?
Quotenot necessarily of the same mind or on the same page, tho!
Not sure what Jane could possibly mean here. It's just that I'm on the page and she's just at the footnote.
Nita and Janet ~ I use Print Shop Ver. 11 for my calendars. I don't even know where I got the software. Maybe with my first pc. I have been making calendars for years...probably 20 years. First I bought them from Miles Kimball out of Oshkosh, Wisconsin. I liked them because the dates were big squares with little numbers...large enough to write appointments etc. And they had the magnetic slider for the fridge. Miles Kimball still sells them. Then I made the generic calendar with ink and a ruler and copied them at work. I then added the letters and numbers by stencils. Then copied them for the family...then it was only 5 calendars. Then I wrote the family names and ages on the dates. Then I got the computer and have done them on card stock and print them front and back. I keep last years and the software will change January from 2006 to 2007 etc and then all I have to do is move the names and change the ages. This year I am making 13 calendars and maybe 14 if Kitty wants one. My family has grown in 20 years!! I am sure there are other programs out there for calendars.
And Nita ~ I sent you an email asking you to send me the link. When I searched for Chaoscape, (that's what you put under your image in the gallery) it was comics or something like that and I knew that wasn't right. But in your last post, you asked if I found Chaoscope. So I searched for that and I have it downloaded. Now to find time to play! Neat. Maybe I can take an image to photo club Monday night!
Tomorrow is Red Hats Day so I may be scarce.
Etta Sue, I put the link in for you, didn't I? I meant to, if not.
How do you put your calender together? Staples? Tape? I like that you make it so personal for your family. Nita

Nita ~ I am so sorry that I told the world that you typed the wrong word!! ::) Your email answer went into my Spamfighter file and I didn't see it until morning. Yes, I found the freeware website and downloaded it last night. Probably why I didn't go to bed until way past midnight! As for putting my calendar together, I use a magnetic slider. You can purchase the sliders along with clear covers at Staples, Office Supply etc to make your own 8" x 11" books. I then purchased the magnets in a roll, cut to fit them on the slider and glued on the magnetic strip. I found the calendar on Miles Kimball
here (http://www.mileskimball.com/mileskimball/Shopping/ProductDetail.aspx?CID=Desktop%2fOffice&SCID=Wall+Calendars&ProductID=DBMC&SiteNum=0). Of course, mine are more colorful. ^-^ I have a graphic for each month on both sides at the top. And birthdays are purple, anniversaries are blue, holidays are red, deaths and their birthdays are green. So it makes a colorful calendar.
I am all ready for Red Hats...sitting here with my red and purple on! I know the town we are going to but not the restaurant. It is always fun!

Thanks for the glimpse, Etta Sue. That is SO nice........wish someone in my family were into making calendars, and I were on their list. I should do it myself, but probably won't get around to doing it. :-\
Election is over, and I will not miss the campaign ads on TV. I am not happy with the results, but as someone said (Jane?) God isn't a bit surprised. Defeat of the abortion proposal in South Dakota was VERY disheartening. :'( Poor little babies.........
Today the Grant Mennonite Church people are serving a Thanksgiving meal free at the Senior Center. They always have such wonderful food, then they sing for us, acapella. It is one of their outreaches to the community.
Darrel and I are going to get our flu shots this morning. We should have gotten them earlier, but didn't think it was a good idea to do that while you have a cold.
Diane and Jeff had lunch with Beth and me yesterday, and we had a nice visit. Love those people!! <3 ;)
I'd better run.........puff, puff! Need to go to workout, and am late now.
Good Morning to all.
Janet a Candlestick Trim is when you take very small portions of hair and twist it all the way to the ends then go along the shaft and take off all the little tiny hairs that are sticking out. After this is don't and it only done on long hair, the heart lays smooth and doesn't tangle. Very few operators even know how to do it and out of those few even fewer will take the time to do it.
Jane I went to a catered dinner/business meeting.
Al the Same page? I doubt it.
I have been for my workout and now I am ready to go to Tai Chi, then on to Ruth's house to clean that stove.
Gotta go now. C~U L8ER
November 8/06
I like the changes - doing yard work - going to work - and taking time to be with family - I do not always have the time to be online.
Today is dull and dreary with rain added to the mixture of course better rain than snow.
It is interesting to read about the calander making, I just wish I had the time and courage to try as I am sure it is very easy and yet I am fearful of doing something new on the computor.
Ruth
Just so happy that you put your calendar in here. Pictures show so much that is difficult to put into text.
Oh, I'm so busy today. I must get some brush cleaned up and tied up and put out to the garbage for tomorrow. So, I'm just nipping in and out for a quick visit.
I'm so happy that you all like the changes to the site.
Hi everyone.
It is another dreary looking day but not cold and it isn't raining today so no complaints.
After coffee this morning I went to the church for Bible Study. We studied some passages pertaining to Salvation. I didn't go to the donut shop afterwards as our son had called last evening saying he was going to come back by for a short time this morning and I wanted to be here. While he was here he finished getting the KVM switch setup so that I had my sound back. They won't be back over until early in December.
Tonight we have choir practice, which I always enjoy.
Pat, sure hope you don't overdo with the yard cleanup. Please take care.
Ruth, I sure agree with you on the rain over snow. Of course, snow is not a problem here in the South as we seldom have any and rarer yet does it affect the roads.
Etta Sue, I was glad to see your calendar example as remember your speaking of them in the past. I am sure having all the dates is a great reminder and help for your family.
Marilyn, I sure don't have a need for a candlestick trim on my hair. :) Hope you got that stove cleaned, not the world's most fun job.
Janet, that is a very thoughtful and nice thing for the community that the Mennonite church does for its community. I am sure you look forward to it each year. Glad you were able to get Beth out for awhile. I hope you let her know that her friends here on SN are keeping her in our thoughts and prayers.
Jane, were you an English teacher?
Nita, once again I have enjoyed your wonderful sharing of your faith walk. As you indicate we must never give up on our children but I have learned that I must let my daughter lead her own life without my meddling.
Kevin and Al, good to see you both posting.
Well guess I had better get busy on filling out some rebate forms so I can mail them off tomorrow. These are from my last visit to Fry's where have $86 worth of rebates on $138 worth of things that I bought.
Quote from: Larry Hanna on November 08, 2006, 03:26:08 PM
Jane, were you an English teacher?
Larry, English was my major in college, with Education my minor. I have a teaching credential for K-12 which also allows me to teach in Adult Education and other such courses. I substituted for my English teacher sister while in Oklahoma and for other teachers there and in California. I have also taught in the California elementary schools. So, to answer your question: yes. :)
Hi,
Just enjoying a freshly-brewed cup of coffee, while enjoying the Word and reading email from here and there.
During my film-shooting days, I used two cameras, a Canon and a Nikon. Way-back-when, I bought a huge backpack-kind-of-camera-bag that is made for two cameras and about 6 lenses and 2 external flashes, too. Oh, and a tripod can be strapped on to either side. It is a nice bag, and still in mint condition, but way too big for my digital camera and 3 lenses. :o
So I orderd a smaller one and it will be here tonight. It too is a backpack type, but is designed so that it can be swung for quick access to the camera. That'll be nice when I'm riding my bicycle out in the country or walking Jazz, and something catches my eye, that is just begging me to take its picture ;) .
Well, here. Take a look if you'd like. http://www.tamrac.com/5748.htm
And here is something, from Hebrews 6, to look at and focus on today. I compared my reading from The Message to the New Living Translation this morning.
When people take an oath, they call on someone greater than themselves to hold them to it. And without any question that oath is binding. God also bound himself with an oath, so that those who received the promise could be perfectly sure that he would never change his mind. So God has given us both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can take new courage, for we can hold on to his promise with confidence. NLT
In His Grip,
Calvin (that's what my great aunts and uncles used to call me--I'm from SW Louisiana, Cajun descent :) )
Nice bag Kevin/Calvin
The dinner with the Mennonites was nice, and they brought the 7th and 8th graders from their school to sing for us. Very enjoyable! Beth and her friend Gloria enjoyed the outing, and we sat with my friend Maxine and her two daughters. TMI? :-[
Musical practice went a little better tonight, but still so many who are to sing in it are not coming to practice! :(
The measure to build the new hospital passed. The old building is over 50 years old, and really does have some problems.
I have been working on scrapbooking some each day. Maybe I will eventually get the China photos all done. Then there is Thailand to work on.......and family, and........ :o
Kevin, that's a cool looking bag. Enjoy!
Another thought for the week: We all live under the same sky, but we don't see the same horizon.
Larry: Like father, like son. Isn't it nice that your son returned to finish helping you with the tech business around the house?
Janet: The Mennonites in this area harvest and can food every fall and they also take on the tremendous job of caring for prison-born babies. I see them shopping often at the fabric stores and always in a group.
My brother in Seattle wrote an email calling this Black Wednesday. Not one person he voted for won any position. He has his own business & it keeps getting tougher and tougher with so many rules and restrictions, not to mention the taxes heaped upon the owner.
We went to church for the Spirituality group tonight and it seemed as though this chapter on our reading finally got to the crux of the entire lesson. We will all read the final chapter again and talk about it next week. It is all about our journeys to be with God.
Good Night,
Carol
QuoteIt is all about our journeys to be with God.
Carol, I would love to hear about what you are discussing next week. We are on a journey, aren't we? And our destiny is God Himself. :)
Kevin, that's a great bag. It will serve you well. Small and compact and on your back.:)
Janet so true that we all live under the same sky, but we don't see the same horizon. Isn't that wisdom? I wish I'd coined that. If we all remembered that, we wouldn't be so insistent that others saw things our way. Sometimes they just can't because they aren't standing where we are. :)
Etta Sue, your calender is neat. I never thought of making a full size calender with a magnetic strip. Is it for the refrigerator then? I've always been a nail in the wall, stick the calendar on it, kind of person. You've expanded my horizons today. :)
Marilyn, I was wondering what a candlestick trim was. I've heard of a candlestick perm. My hair has never been long enough for anything like that.
I need to get a DVD slide show of my grandson's socker season finished. Well, I'll start over. I need to get it STARTED. I want to add music and do it as a DVD so that he can watch it on tv. I think he'll like it. I need to do it TOMORROW. NIGHT.
SOMETIME. Jane and I are going to drive out to the beach tomorrow, so maybe after that. Maybe. :)
night, all. Nita
Hey there, Nita ... I was just going to comment on Carol's post myself! It is all about our journeys .... how true!
I just answered your email and I am looking forward to driving out to the beach tomorrow. I think I need that almost as much as you do. ;)
Tomorrow is my youngest granddaughter's 13th birthday as well as the day my daughter Joy arrives in Sacramento from Mexico for several weeks (until after the holidays) so ... lotsa stuff happenin' tomorrow
Y'all have a blessed day with the Lord. I'll be baaaaaack!!!
Hi everyone. The sun is coming up this morning and I just heard it is to be in the 70s today. That will be a nice change from the last few days.
When I got home from choir practice last night my wife said our daughter had called and she had been in the hospital since about 9:30 yesterday morning suffering with more severe chest pains. Pat talked with her again about 10:30 pm and she was still waiting for a room but was laying down. She is suppose to start her new job on Monday. Sure hope she is all right and will be feeling better by Monday. The last 3 months have really been a rollercoaster for her regarding her health. We haven't heard from her this morning. I sure would appreciate your remembering her in your prayers today. Her name is Stacey.
Janet, we have the same problem of our choir members not coming to the practices on a regular basis. I know it must be frustrating to our wonderful choir director but she has been at this for a long time so takes things in stride.
I plan on going to Calvin Cove to sing with the older adult day-care folks this afternoon.
Hope everyone has a good day.

I have a killer cat lying on the desk in front of me. She KNOWS something is up! I am all packed and ready to leave for my little mini-vacation of an over-night stay in a whirlpool suite. We are going to see the stage show 'Holiday Magic 2006' this afternoon. Then tomorrow will be lunch at 'White Linen' and then get some fudge at Sharlette's Fudgery. I think I am going to have the fudge put into one pound containers and give as Christmas presents. Now I know we aren't suppose to say what we are going to do....it is all in God's hands. So God willing, the above is what Ivalou and I will be doing.
I have my camera all ready so hopefully I will get some nice pictures of something. The sun is shining!!!(^)^(^)(^)^(^)(^)^(^)(^)^(^)(^)^(^)(^)^(^)(^)^(^)(^)^(

For the third scheduled time, today the kitchen cabinets will come out - I hope they really mean it this time. I have to empty the refrigerator & they should be here at 7:30 A.M.
Nita: I will try to remember to mention next week (our final week as Don & I will miss the very last meeting this year. It is very strange, I mean the entire series, as the group did not care much for the writer for weeks on end and this last chapter brings together the most beautiful description of spirituality. But - we had to be led to it much like a horse led to water.......
Jane: We love to keep learning and ackowledging the little things around us that remind us of the glory.
Larry: Prayers for Stacey and you and Pat as well. I hope that Stacey's stress level goes down and she has peace in her heart.
:coffee: Coffee is brewing in the little kitchen-type area I set up in the basement. Sunrise is a soft magenta color this morning.
Carol
Reading this morning's posts brings a warm, fuzzy feeling of peace to my heart. Praising God in the midst of problems--thank you, Carol. You are taking time to enjoy the soft magenta color of a sunrise, and Nita and Jane and Etta Sue are making plans to go out and enjoy His creation all around us. You are all great friends.
Larry, I will continue to pray for your Stacey even as I pray for my Beth. I am going to her care plan meeting this morning, and hope we can get some issues resolved. Enjoy your time singing with the Calvin Cove (I like that name!) folks today.
The weather here has been near 90 degrees the past three days! :o But they say the cold is returning tomorrow! Better get our trash out and burned today.
I am almost late for a dental cleaning, must run!
Good Morning I have read all the posts since I was last here, however, I do not have time to comment on them all.
Larry I have prayed and will continue to pray for Stacey, you and Pat.
Jan and I are going shopping today in Eureka and then to eat at Marie Callender's. This evening I am going to dinner at Gilbert's house with him and the kids. Sarah has to work tonight.
Please continue to pray or my client Ruth, She is not recovering very fast and it looks like it will be awhile before she gets to come home.
Gotta go now.
:coffee:
G'mornin'! Yes! A photo discussion! :D
I'll try to explain my pict, "The Old Bridge", which some have commented about, and Etta Sue specifically has asked about. Thanks Nita and Marilyn, for your comments, too.
There are 4 bridges involved in this pict, if you include the one I'm standing on to shoot this.
From top to bottom,
- 1 (for trains heading east)
- Trestle 2 (for trains heading west)
- The Old Concrete Bridge (now only for pedestrian and 2-wheeled traffic)
So, yes, Etta Sue that is a cyclist on the old bridge, probably a commuter, since this was the evening rush hour. The old bridge is not exactly parallel to neither the trestles, nor the one I'm standing on, it seems. And, I didn't take the picture "square on", but pointing the camera just a bit to my left, to get the most effective pillar and other reflection possible.
I was having a bit of trouble posting a larger pict, so here's a link to a larger one.

How's that? Did I 'splain it okay? :D
In His Grip,
Kevin
Yes, you did a good job! It's a great picture too.
My plans got all changed today. I woke up up all dizzy and achy. I kept thinking it would go away, but it hasn't. I took my flu shot on Tuesday, so maybe it's a reaction to that. But my sister called me and said she's been sick for two days too. Hope I don't get that. She's coming home tonight.
Maybe the Lord just wanted me home still. My daughter ran to the store for me and got what I needed. Now I'm drinking tea and getting ready to snuggle in my recliner with my fuzzy blanket. I feel like I have a head full of water!
Jane, I'm sorry. This would have been the perfect day for pictures and just viewing. :(
Blessings, Nita
I am finished with my Christmas shopping. Hooray!!
I am going to take care of my neighbor's cats while she goes up to the Portland Oregon area for a visit. I will just have to go over and feed them and make sure they have water and pet them if they will let me. So I have to go there to see where everything is before I go to Gilbert's tonight.
Gilbert is doing a craft fair Saturday and I am going to try to go help him for awhile.
That is a very interesting photo Kevin. Ya done good Bro.
Computers! Ya gotta love 'em (or hate 'em). This morning early I got on here & tried to look at CP. But the screen was much, much darker than usual, and it was hard to read things. I went no less than three or four times to "System Preferences" thinking there ought to be a control for brightness. Under that heading there is another called "Displays." I looked at it every time. I saw the upper part of the window, which had to do with size, color, etc., but NEVER noticed a little lever in the lower left-hand corner that you could click on, drag, change the brightness. I took the computer with me (thankfully it doesn't weigh too much), and, after letting Marbeth off, I went to the computer shop and took it in there. The fellow that waited on me was very, very nice. He plugged it in, immediately went to "System Preferences," then clicked on "Displays," and showed me the control! The word, I believe, is "chagrinned." But, besides being just a bit ticked at myself, I was also thankful that it didn't cost me one dime!
That's quite a photo, Kevin. It really took me a while to figure out the bridges. That one ought to be in some kind of encyclopedia of photographs or something.
Nita - sure sorry to hear about how you're feeling. Father, heal her and make her know Your blessed Presence through Jesus Christ our Lord. I almost decided to suggest that y'all come down here and pick me up to go down to the beach with y'all.
Hi Everyone!
So, is THAT what your message to me was all about then, Al when you paged me and said, "What's happening"?
I didn't have a clue.
Kevin, that bag is great! Mine is about the same size but not specifically for how you describe you're going to use yours. Actually, I have two--one is for everyday use and the other is a backpack type. I'll see if I can find a pic for you.
Has everyone taken a photo today?

'S Okay, Bestest ... I just want you to feel all better real soon!! <3
I got my stuff done this morning so I'd be home and ready for our drive to the beach. It turned out to be a beautiful day, weatherwise. I understand the rain is due back in here tonight along with high wind warnings. Oh, well .... another time will be just as good, right?
I don't ever make plans anyway -- you know me: "no agendas" ;)
Al~Sorry about your 'puter problems ... at least it didn't cost ya anything.
Marilyn I could echo your first post today
everyday! I read all the posts from the last time I was here but I never
have take time to respond. My bad! :-[
From my reading this morning...a bit of Hebrews 7.
Melchizedek was king of Salem and priest of the Highest God. He met Abraham, who was returning from "the royal massacre," and gave him his blessing. Abraham in turn gave him a tenth of the spoils. "Melchizedek" means "King of Righteousness." "Salem" means "Peace." So, he is also "King of Peace." Melchizedek towers out of the past—without record of family ties, no account of beginning or end. In this way he is like the Son of God, one huge priestly presence dominating the landscape always.
In His Grip,
Kevin
Hi, friends,
What a great time I've had catching up with y'all.
My computer's finally fixed. It was so wonderful to sit at my own computer and get to listen to the beautiful songs of zion.
The computer came back from repair last evening, and then since the monitor (it was very old) wouldn't come up, I had to purchase a new one. So, it's almost like getting a whole new computer setup!
Larry and Janet, I'm praying with you for your daughters. My son seems to be not nearly as depressed the last week. How nice to see him cleaning his room and tidying things up.
I, too, like the weekly format.
This must be the week for aches and pains. I stayed off from work 1/2 day on Tuesday and all day Wednesday, but feel much better today.
Y'all have a good evening.
Ruth Ann
Good evening. I was wanting to ask a couple of questions but since I did not take notes as I was reading my memory has gone blank.
Kevin I like your camera bag.
Etta Sue: I always love your cats.
Janet: How do you put pictures on a DVD for viewing? It sounds too complicated for me.
Today I baked 4 apple pies 3 of which are in the freezer and other will be baked in a couple of days, then I also made an apple crisp in a deep dish pie plate.
After that was done I headed to the Christian Book store to purchase a couple of books they had on sale. This book store is not in a good location but God is good to them, on the 6 o'clock news we heard that there was a shooting not to far from this location. My oh My is all I can say.
I think perhaps I will do some knitting to relax.
Hello there, Ruth Ann! How nice to see you and read about your "new" computer. Maybe we will have the pleasure of your company more often now?
Sorry, Nita, that you felt bad today, hope you will be "in the pink" again tomorrow. You and Jane will get to that beach soon. May I tag along?
I got (by email) 30 wonderful photos of my grandson Justin!! They are proofs for his Senior pictures. It just doesn't seem at all possible that sweet little guy is 18 and will be graduating in May. Where do the years go?? :o
Al, was your face :-[ ? Well, I wouldn't have known where to look, either. I am really not very computer literate.
Kevin, I have to admit, I haven't deciphered three bridges in that photo, let alone four! But that's just me. I'm sure they are there, I just can't see 'em. :-[
The cold is coming, I can feel it. Boy, those warm days were nice while they lasted.
My sweetheart really blessed me today!! He pulled a TV cable into my studio so I can listen to TV while I work in there. I had been wanting that done for years. I'm so thankful for a supportive spouse.
Hello, Ruth! We were posting at the same time. I believe it was Nita who is doing a DVD. I only wish I knew how to do that. Now, if you have an 11 or 12 year old grandchild, I'm sure they can teach you how to do it!! Unfortunately, my big boys are away at college, the younger ones too far away, and Abby hasn't learned that fancy stuff yet. Mmmm.......apple pie! I can almost smell that tempting aroma! ^-^
Janet,
In the picture, you can only see the pillars and the reflections of the trestles. :) It is a bit of a different kind of shot. I've been experimenting a bit with shadows and reflections...as a painter, you know how it is. You get a bit comfortable with what you've been doing and just have to try something new ;) .
Gripped,
Kevin
My goodness! Look at the temperature in Japan! I just looked at your temp thingy in your signature, Kevin!
It's chilly here tonight.
It really is an interesting bridge.
I can hardly wait till Monday evening. I'm going to an evening with Freeman Patterson, one of my favourite photographers. One of the fellows on Photography Cafe who teaches workshops for Freeman was able to get me a ticket after they were all sold out! ;) So, looking forward to it a lot.
Hi everyone.
Just back from the coffee hour (plus) at the senior center. At 10:30 I am picking up my good friend and we are going to the SeniorNet Volunteer Meeting and then we have lunch there and it is followed by our PC User Group at 1 pm. Today we have speakers from MIcroCenter, one of the large computer stores in our area.
Our daughter spent Wednesday night in the hospital but after the test all came back negative she was dismissed yesterday and got back to her apartment around 7 pm last evening. Needless to say everyone is relieved that she didn't have her second heart attack but still don't know what is causing the heart attack like sysmtems of the severe chest pain, sweating and nausea. Of course she did the right thing by going to the ER.
Pat, nice that you are going to get to attend the photography event on Monday evening.
Kevin, your photo certainly creates and interesting visual. Thanks for sharing it.
Janet, I hope you will be able to iron out the problems with Beth's care during your meeting today. I attended one or two of these meetings for my folks and my sister attended the others. Hope you enjoy having the TV in your work room. I have the TV card in my computer and usually use it to catch the news early in the morning and sometimes some sports on weekends.
Ruth, I wish I could help you in learning to save pictures to a DVD to play on a DVD player. I just have never done that so am not certain. I know you can copy your pictures to a DVD for storage just by dragging them to your DVD burner and when you put the DVD back in your computer you can select view as a slideshow and view the photos. I just put the DVD in my
DVD player and it came up and showed the file structure but didn't immediately see how to play them. Sure there must be a way but I don't know what it is.
Ruth Ann, glad you have your computer back and I expect you see a big difference with the new monitor. Sometimes we don't realize how bad the old monitors have become until we see a new one. Also glad to hear your son is feeling better this week.
Jane, I am learning to not worry if I don't get my agenda accomplished. I usually make a plan but don't beat myself up over it if it doesn't happen as I had planned. I guess it is just my accountants training.
Al, glad there was nothing seriously wrong with your computer but don't you wonder why it changed overnight. Glad there was no expense involved in finding the solution. A good business practice because you will undoubtedly go to this person when you do have a problem that requires attention.
Marilyn, we haven't even thought about Christmas shopping except Pat has her Christmas present with the new sewing computer machine she got last week. Hope you had a good time at your son's house last night and with your grandchildren.
Nita, hope today finds you feeling better.
Carol, hope the kitchen project is now progressing with the new cabinets.
Etta Sue, hope you had a wonderful time and don't eat all that fudge at once. I expect it is very good. A good idea about the gifts.
Thanks to all of you for remembering our daughter in your prayers yesterday.
Good Morning I am all ready to go out with my friend Conny on her route to deliver drugs to the drug stores in this area and down the coast. I am taking my camera andhope to get some nice photos. I should be back around 4PM.
i got good news yesterday about Ruth (my patient) whe should be able to come home in two week. Thanks for your prayers.
I went to Gilbert's last night and he fixed hamburgers. Then we watched the auction on the local PBS channel for awhile and I got home at 8PM.
Hey Ruth ann good to see you back here.
Nita I do pray that you are much better today.
Pat have a nice time tonight.
TTYL
I am finished work for today, boy is that a good feeling, the last time I took time, off the company made me feel terrible but not this time.
I will be going to the next closest town to do a lot of little chores two of which will be washing my veh, then going to have it rust checked.
Larry: Thanks for the info about DVD pictures - it has given me the idea that perhaps a camera shop I sometimes go to in Orangeville will help me out.
Kevin: I see 3 bridges but was wondering if the shadow was the 4th.
Nita: Perhaps you could help me with the DVD pictures post your reply here or e-mail either will be fine.
Marilyn: Enjoy your day away
I must be on my way so will check in later.
11th DAY of the 11th MONTH
by Michael T. Smith
In the USA, it is known as Veterans' Day. In Canada, it is known as
Remembrance Day. When I was a youngster, it was just another
holiday -- a day when stores were closed and, more importantly,
there was no school.
I knew about the war, but I was free to play. I knew people died for
our freedom, but I could sleep in. I knew my parents had little when
they were growing up because of the war, but I had food on my plate
and a day to watch TV. The real meaning of the day was distant to me.
Years later, my daughter joined the Brownies. The first year she was
a member, I set the alarm to wake us on the morning of 11/11. She
had to participate in a parade. Every Brownie, Girl Guide, Cub
Scout, and Scout had to participate in the parade. It was a day to
remember those who died for our freedom.
My wife and I left our daughter with the Guide leader and proceeded
to the Canadian Legion, where we waited for her. The kids paraded a
mile along the coastal roads of Nova Scotia, carrying their flags
high and proud. We waited for their arrival. Veterans joined them,
old men, long past the prime. They'd fought in the trenches and
watched their comrades die. Many came in wheelchairs... Some limped... A
few still stood strong...
They walked as proudly as they could to the legion, where a band
waited. The band played, speeches were made, and on the 11th month,
the 11th day, the 11th hour, the 11th minute, and the 11th second,
there began two minutes of silence.
I looked at the veterans. Their sacrifices allowed us to stand there
that day. They gave us our freedom. The cold seeped through my
jacket. I reached out and held my wife. A tear trickled down my
cheek. For years, I slept as those brave men marched in the cold
November air in remembrance of those who died in battle beside them.
It took my daughter to make me realize the importance of the day. I
never missed another Remembrance Day. Years later, because of work,
I was separated from my family. I was in another city. On
Remembrance Day, I heard there was going to be a service in the city
square. I was in Saint John, New Brunswick. I put on my jacket and
tie, pinned a poppy to my lapel, walked the mile to the service,
stood in the damp cold and watched those brave men once again march
for our freedom.
I don't know if it was because I was away from my family, or if it
was the sight of those old men still walking proudly, but the memory
of that service never fades. The Veterans marched, wheeled, and
limped to the city square. The mayor gave a speech. The two minutes
of silence began. At the end, a bagpipe began to play "Amazing
Grace."
After the first chorus, a second bagpipe joined in, along with a
small band. On the third chorus, more bagpipes joined, and a brass
band began to play. The building of sound, the magic of the moment
is something I will never forget. Tears filled my eyes that day, as
the blood must have filled the trenches in battle. That moment
burned in my mind forever.
On November 11th, please take a moment to remember those who fought
for our freedom and those who continue to fight for it. May God
bless them all...
--Michael T. Smith
Ruth, here I am following you again! ;)
Larry, thanks for the good report on Stacey. Glad she did NOT have a heart attack. They promised to call and make an appointment for Beth in Dodge City to get her brace adjusted so she can wear it; she also now needs one for her other foot. Her ankles are turning in and over badly, and I don't wnt them to calcify in that position; then alll hope of walking would be lost. :'( I do not understand why Beth has so many burdens to bear, but she is pretty stoic about it, and rarely complains. I wonder if I would be so strong?
I went to the gym and had a vigorous cardio-vascular workout today. Whew! :) Good for me, though, and I intend to keep going.
Tomorrow here they are having several things to honor our Veterans, so I am skipping my business meeting to go to them and support those who have done so much to preserve our freedom. Darrel served seven years in the Army, and I have the utmost respect for his and all service members' service to our country. There is to be a parade, then a meal of beans, cornbread and pie, followed by a program, then a salute to all our veterans.
I will stop before you get tired of reading. Later!
WE'RE BACK!!
Poor Ian. Some fibre optics cut in his area and his whole system has been offline for about 12 hours!
Thanks for the prayers, Al. The site came back shortly after!
Thank you Janet for the post about Remembrance Day.
It's so important that we remember why we are free.
Hi everyone. I tried to come on today when we weren't here...:)
But now we're back and we'reall safe and sound...and blessed.
I feel so much better today. So much better that I'd say I'm 100 percent just fine.
Ruth, to put pictures on a DVD, I have a program I use. It's called Proshow Gold. I also add music. But I think that most computers have something on them to do a memory cd or whatever it might be called. I know you can do something with Windows Movie maker, but not sure if you can create DVDs. I'll check around some more if you want me to.
Janet, I feel the same as you about Beth. I wonder if I could be so stoic as she. Bless her heart. I know it breaks yours. God must have a reason that we can't fathom for having her go through so much. I believe that people, those who are His, who seem to suffer so much on the earth, must have a wonderful reward or work to do in heaven. I don't know. We just know that our Loving Father does know.
I'm ready for bed, so will say good night and turn in. Nita
I just did a fast check, Ruth. Proshow Gold is $69.99 now. I didn't pay that much when I got it. Proshow is less, but it doesn't do DVDS. I found one from U Lead that is $30 and it makes DVDs and you can add music.
I'm not sure if you want to purchase anything, but I don't know of a way to do DVDs any other way. Nita
Well, now it is the 11th. Thank you, Janet, for posting Michael Smith's words, and Pat for Flanders Fields, etc. I found myself praying about these things. I'm not only thankful for the men/women who have sacrificed so much, but I'm seeking God's great grace to make the people of this nation, Canada, Great Britain, and others much, much more aware of the meaining of freedom and of the responsibilities that go with it. My prayer is, "O God, revive Thy work in the hearts of the nations today! Make many more people desirous, not of being libertines, but of being righteous. Bring to life thousands of hearts, and move them to honor You and serve in Your Name. "Revive Thy work, O Lord, Thy mighty arm make bare! Speak with the voice that wakes the dead, and make Thy people hear!" Through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Good Saturday to all,
I didn't take notes. Am off for a brunch this morning. Yesterday, we had a potluck with the quilters group - yum.
Good friends leave Minnesota today and will be here tomorrow or Monday to visit for a short time. They want to see a granddaughter first. Our house is in a tizzy still but the man doing all the work is steadily making progress in the kitchen. Lluckily, these are very good friends coming & we will have to go out for breakfast. lunch & so on.
Nita: Hope that you are not dizzy today. Rest well and stay warm, take plenty of liquids....the doctor says so :D
Ruth: Love apple pie!
Larry: I found the toaster last night - we have kitchen junk in three rooms - never thought there was so much packed into that little kitchen. So glad to hear that Stacey did not have another heart problem. We have a niece, living alone, who has had similar incidents after having two heart attacks. She went to a clinic the last time & I told her - to go straight to ER hospital if it happens again.
Janet: I am sure that Beth is an inspiration to others you may not notice. Does she still keep in touch often with John? I hope that he will always be her special friend.
I don't mean to single out only a few - wishing everyone a great Veteran's Day. We were involved in such a beautiful ceremony at grandson's school with the 5th graders. So sweet of them to sing songs and recognize those who have served. The other grands go to a Boulder, CO school & there is no way that area would do such a project for veterans. They barely hang a flag outside the school - even after 9-11, a teacher in Boulder said a flag outside the school put up by a parent had to come down because "it violated her space". She was probably promoted & that is true to their twisted way of thinking.
So, I had better be on my way to brunch. This eating out so much has to stop/
Carol
Al: Thank you for your post. Words so true.
Remember those who fought and died for Your freedom!
Pat ~ Sorry about the downtime of the site. It must have gotten fixed right after I went to bed. Thanks to Ian for all he does for the site!
Larry ~ I have been praying for Stacey, Pat and you. What trials!
Janet ~ I have been praying for Beth, Darrel and you! What trials!
Kevin ~ Thank you for the 'splainin'. Now I understand. It almost looks like two photos stitched together. You live in a very photogenic area!
Nita ~ Sorry you were dizzy and couldn't go on with your plans.
Ivalou and I had a great time. The weather was perfect! The show 'Holiday Magic 2006' was 3 girls and 3 boys (at my age, they were boys and girls) who sang and danced to Christmas music. The costume changes were fabulous! Really wonderful. The motel room was huge but Ivalou and I ate so much we declined the whirlpool. I did get three pounds of fudge and had her put them in three packages. She said to put each one in ziplock bags and keep in a cool place and they would still be fine for Christmas presents. And lunch yesterday was another restaurant where there was no menu...the special was Spinach Bake, crescent rolls, salads, dainty cheesecakes and a drink. Most of all, it was wonderful to go in these places and give them my coupons or gift certificates instead of green bills or plastic! A wonderful day. I figured it up and the photo I entered in the Indiana Historical Society and won a second place was worth $272 for me! I can't depend on that every time I enter a contest, for sure!
Why is it when you are out, you have to go to WalMart? Portland, Indiana, has a brand new Super WalMart. The crafts area was superb. And I finally found a reversible quilt for my bed. Ivalou found one also. So I told her I would buy hers. She said she would buy mine! So we each gave each other a reversible quilt for our beds!! How's that for giving?
When we got home, it was still nice and warm out so I mowed the grass and leaves. Then I did 4 loads of laundry since I just had to put the new quilt on my bed and wanted the whole bed fresh with clean linens.
Today is my outing with my classmates. We are going to 'The Bank' in Pendleton. It used to be a bank and has an original teller window at the entrance. Reall tall ceilings and booths. Wonderful food, too! ^+^+^+^+^+^+^+^+^+^+^+^+^+^+^+^+^+^+^+^+^+^+^+

Hi everyone. We don't have the sun here today but it still isn't too cool. However, think our weather is changing and it will be cooler starting tomorrow.
Thanks for the messages concerning Veteran's Day. I am not a Veteran but have only the highest respect for any men or women who wear the uniform or who stand behind those who do. I had coffee this morning with one of my retired friends who had served at Iwo Jima. We have a new generation of young people now in uniform to protect our countries from an enemy such as we have not experienced. It is not our soldiers in our various countries who make the decisions on whether we go to war or not but they are the ones who answer the call and put their lives on the line for our countries.
Nita I had not heard of the program you mentioned for making DVDs from photos.
Pat, having something happen to the backbone of the Internet must be a nightmare for the folks who have the ISPs. It is not something they can do anything about but have to deal with their customers when it happens. Glad we are back online. The internet is amazingly stable.
Janet, I am sure Beth is an inspiration to those around her who see her take what life has given her and make the best of it without undo complaints. I think I am like you in not being sure I would be so patient but would hope I would be.
We need to leave the house so have to stop for now.
Good mornin. i am running though her quickly as I am onmy way to Curves to work out i messed yesterday i also have to go next door to me inthe back and feed Mimi's cats and play with them for a little bit.
I do hope that you all have seen the "Let Us Remember" topic.
It is the VETERAN, not the preacher,
who has given us freedom of religion.
It is the VETERAN, not the courts
who has given us the right to keep and bear arms
It is the VETERAN, not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the VETERAN, not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the VETERAN, not the campus organizer,
who has given us freedom to assemble.
It is the VETERAN, not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It is the VETERAN, not the politician,
Who has given us the right to vote.
It is the VETERAN, who salutes the Flag,
and serves under the flag.
May God bless our Veterans. Happy Veterans' Day.
Hello! Darrel decided we needed to go to the Reliv meeting, so we drove to Dodge this morning, got home around 2 this afternoon. I hope the things to honor the Veterans here went well, and am sorry to have missed them.
My buddy Pat and I are going to attend the high school musical The Wizard of Oz tonight, with a dinner beforehand. Should be a fun evening!
Thanks for the kind comments re Beth. She was able to stand yesterday, or rather, to bear her weight once they got her vertical using the lift, so she can continue to use that one, a BIG relief to her (and me.) Tuesday I will take her to a doctor in Dodge City to see about getting those braces done.
Etta Sue, you find the most interesting places to visit! How fun!
Carol, glad progress is being made on your kitchen. Won't it be great when you get everything all done and your stuff back so you can use it? :)
Pat, thanks for the I Remember thread. Never has supporting our troops been more vital than NOW!
Larry, hope you are feeling "fit as a fiddle" today! :)
I have some calls to make, better get with it!
I came back to add.....I tried several times last evening to get in, and decided the site was down. Glad to see it is fixed now, and Pat, please thank Ian for the great job he is doing as our host.
Hi, friends,
I'm SO thankful to be able to come here and stay as long as need demands. My son was awfully sweet about letting me use his computer, but it's in his bedroom, and I had to run him out to be able to use it.
My husband was in the Air Force and then one son was 16 years in the Air Force and another was in the Army for a number of years and then was called back up to serve in the first Gulf war. My heart swells with pride and patriotism on days like this, and always when I hear the Star Spangled Banner.
I had lunch at a mexican-themed restaurant today, then spent a bit of time with my daughter's cat - she's been away for several days attending an oncology nursing convention in Pittsburgh.
It's really chilly here in Nashville today. The high is only supposed to be in the low-mid 40s and the wind is sharp which, of course, makes that wind chill pretty low. Brrrrr.
Yet, it gets me into the holiday spirit more when it's getting cold and frosty outside.
I learned last Sunday that I'm going to be a grandma-in-law! I got to meet her, and she seems like just the right person for my grandson. They make a charming couple, and I'm extremely proud of him. He graduates with his pre-med and religion double major next month, then goes on to medical school after that. He's about settled on a school on St. Maarten Island in the Caribbean. They laughed and enouraged me to be certain to visit while they're there. We said, yes, Grandma could spend a few weeks with the kids in Atlanta, then go to England for a few weeks, then St. Maarten, etc. :D So, I think the kids have my retirement already planned, when I'm not even certain when that will be!!!
My oldest son will be 45 in a couple of days. Goodness - how time flies.
Y'all have a good afternoon.
Ruth Ann
I do hope that you will put that in the Remembrance topic, Janet. Thanks for that.
And Ruth Ann, it would be so nice if your comments about your husband and sons were in there as well. Thanks!
It's been a very rainy day here in Guelph.
It has been a day of rain here but not enough to keep me home from a craft show. I spent a little money but just really enjoyed the day with my Aunt.
Yes this is a day to remember, my father-in-law did serve in England but he never shared his experiences as the memories were to much for him to bear. He also came home with injury's that he could live with but again he had times of severe pain.
Nita: My husband now has the flu and he sure feels awful he spent most of the day in bed sleeping and now is wondering how well he will sleep tonight. If he feels like this Monday morning he will not be going to work.
Nita: Thanks for the help I will check to see what is available in our area. A fellow had also told me that perhaps I could use power point he called it easy but I really do not know.
I was here again this morning and had a good sized post that got eaten so I gave up for the time being.
I enjoyed being at the craft show with Gilbert I stayed for about hours.
When I went back to Mimi's this morning to feed the cats They had a dead rat on the floor, so I picked it up by the tail and put it in the garbage can She has one cat that has feline HIV a he is the friendliest kitty. So I have spent some time petting him and cleaning his eye.
It as been rather chilly here today but I took the dogs out for their walk anyway.

Ruth Ann ~ So nice to see you posting again. Loved the longer than usual post.
Marilyn ~ Seems like you are not only a caregiver but a catgiver as well. It is nice when you have pets that when you have to leave, there is someone to take care of them for you.
Ruth ~ Sorry your husband is ill. Praying that it doesn't last long and that he will be chipper soon.
Janet ~ Sounds like Beth is doing fairly well. At least, where she is, it sounds like they are keeping her active.
Larry ~ I am like you. I don't have anyone in my family that is a veteran. My husband was in the Army but served when I was only 6-9 years old...he was 12 years older than me.
I am ready to go out the door for church as soon as I decided what outer wear to wear today. Never know whether to wear a coat, a jacket, a poncho or a shirt in this weather! + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + +

Good Morning Nothing new here since I last posted.
This is the day the Lord hath made and I will rejoice and be glad in it.
Hi, friends,
I don't know why, but I couldn't awaken this morning. I feel so bad about missing church. However, I heard most of a good sermon on TV. But that's not like worshipping in the company of believers.
I've really wondered about this fad amongst the young guys of wearing the pants far too big for them. That minister explained it - when a prisoner is considered a flight risk, they have been forced to wear pants far too big for them so that it will slow them down in flight. Goodness - I wonder if the guys really realize what this fad is all about.
Well, must go for the afternoon. Y'all have a good day.
Ruth Ann
It has been a good Sunday. We went to church last night and the music was lovely. The new pastor has a very nice voice. I have decided that I really need to think only about the good things about him - he is after all, a good person. I bought two loaves of Christmas bread from the Mission - they always sell breads & cookies at this time of the year - and have frozen the loaves. So many good causes that we just have to make decisions.
Pat: I forgot to check your Remember place :D - I will go in there next.
Marilyn: It sounds like you had a nice evening visiting with Gilbert and the kids.
Larry: We just watched some historical films on Iwo Jima and it was astonishing & simply so sad.
Janet: Thanks for your salute to vets.
Ruth Ann: You will surely have lovely places to visit - think about that retirement soon.
Ruth: I hope that your hubby is feeling better.
Don was staining the window sills and dropped a can of stain but the floor isn't finished yet so all turned out alright. We have been working right along with the fellow who is doing the kitchen, run errands & pick up stuff & lift & the lifting for Don has made me nervous. No worker came on Saturday as promised & he says he will be here Tuesday. I am able to wash & dry clothes so that makes me happy but no oven, sink & so dinners have been different. Do have a little microwave downstairs so we get hot drinks and hot instant cereal & go out sometimes.
Wishing everyone a very good week.
Carol
Hello everyone, I have been around just not up to typing much. The Dr has already told me that it is strictly bedrest for the remander of the pregnancy. :( This is a lot sooner than when I had Danny, but I guess I shall obey. Anyways other than that things are going great. Jacob is taking some time off of work to help with everything around the house and Danny is taking it well. He lays down and takes naps with me. Anyways Jacob is yelling at me to get off the computer and back to bed :-[ I am so lucky to have such a caring husband. I will be on later.
Love you all,
Trisha
Dear Trisha, do take care of yourself! I'm sorry that you must go on bedrest so soon, but this time will seem short years from now, when you look back on it, with your dear little girl at your side. (((hugs)))
We had a really good sermon this morning, entitled "8 Things God wants the Church to be filled with" (Or similar words.) This afternoon, Darrel and I went to the care home to help with the singing for the folks. That's always a rewarding thing to do.
Carol, I enjoyed your tribute to the many vets in your family in the other thread.
I attended the high school musical The Wizard of Oz last night, and have to say, those kids did a wonderful job!! I'm even more impressed after watching the 1939 movie with Judy Garland this evening!! They followed that script to a T, and their acting was superb! Especially for high school kids. WOW.
Nothing newsworthy here, so will close. See you tomorrow!
My, a week sure does pass by fast.
It is time to start a new Thoughts for the Week (http://www.christianphotographers.com/community/index.php?topic=5742.msg104015#msg104015).
