Morning Devotional...

Jesus and His Message
John 12:37-50 NLT

But despite all the miraculous signs Jesus had done, most of the people still did not believe in him.  This is exactly what Isaiah the prophet had predicted:

"Lord, who has believed our message?
To whom has the Lord revealed his powerful arm?"

But the people couldn't believe, for as Isaiah also said,

"The Lord has blinded their eyes
      and hardened their hearts—
so that their eyes cannot see,
      and their hearts cannot understand,
and they cannot turn to me
      and have me heal them."

Isaiah was referring to Jesus when he said this, because he saw the future and spoke of the Messiah's glory.  Many people did believe in him, however, including some of the Jewish leaders. But they wouldn't admit it for fear that the Pharisees would expel them from the synagogue.  For they loved human praise more than the praise of God.

Jesus shouted to the crowds, "If you trust me, you are trusting not only me, but also God who sent me.  For when you see me, you are seeing the one who sent me.  I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark.  I will not judge those who hear me but don't obey me, for I have come to save the world and not to judge it.  But all who reject me and my message will be judged on the day of judgment by the truth I have spoken.  I don't speak on my own authority. The Father who sent me has commanded me what to say and how to say it.  And I know his commands lead to eternal life; so I say whatever the Father tells me to say."

(https://www.christianphotographers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi195.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fz77%2FEttaSue%2FCP%2FAnis%2FStarblinking.gif&hash=27e115f9cd5672d07457eb7160f143473dc479d4)What kinds of pressures make you hesitant to tell others about your belief in Christ?

Jesus had performed many miracles, but most people still didn't believe in him.

Likewise, many today won't believe despite all God does.  Don't be discouraged if your witness for Christ doesn't turn as many to him as you'd like.  Your job is to continue as a faithful witness.

You are responsible, not for the decisions of others, but simply to reach out to them.

A three-way call would have been awesome at 1 in the morning!!  Gosh, Pat, it has been a long time since we talked...long over due.  And JudyB, I have never talked to you on the phone!  Must remedy that sometime.

I took a nap this afternoon but I still feel a lack of sleep.  So it is off to bed for me!

ONE MAN ONE JOB

If you can remember back many years particularly around the 1950s and 60s union rules stipulated that one man did only one job, and to pick up another workers tools could bring the whole factory out on strike until the issue was resolved. You know God's rulebook is a bit like that, one man one job, and evangelism is essentially like a production line. Paul in his first Epistle to the Corinthians 3:1-9 tells them that they having so many divisions on spiritual matters among them that they were not even taking of the milk of God's word, and in this portion of his letter Paul deals with sectarianism in the congregation, some people were saying they were of Apollos's persuasion, whilst others were saying they were of Paul's persuasion.
Paul goes on to remind them that both he and Apollos are both co-workers in Christ, and that they were both ministers by whom the Corinthian Christians had come to faith in Christ. Lets look at verses five to nine. Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers through whom you believed, as the Lord gave to each one? I planted Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase. Now he who plants and he who waters are one, and each one will receive his own reward according to his own labour. For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, you are God's building.
A minister once went into a hospital ward, saying, "I haven't come to convert you if that's what you're thinking," little did he realise the truth of that statement. Die-hard unbelievers sometimes tell you you'll never convince me there is a God, or that I need God, the only reply to that is, "You're right, nothing I can say can ever convince you there is a God, and that you have a need of Him, in fact it's not my job, I'm only doing my job of telling you the good news of the Gospel, someone else may come along and add to what I've already said, and neither is it his job to convince you concerning the things of God." The man on the end of the production line is the one who puts it altogether, he is the one who is the author and finisher of a man's faith, and that person alone is God Himself.
The glory belongs to Him, and Him alone. So if you are getting disheartened at the lack of response in telling others of their Need of Christ, you may be trying to do God's job for him. The Bible tells us we must die to self, and if we do that we fall into the ground and bring up seed ten fold, a hundred fold, maybe a thousand fold.
This is part of a tract I wrote a couple of years back but the result of a computer crash, lost the document, which meant retyping it all, but like you say,
"Make sure that when you leave a person,
he is closer to Jesus
than when you first met him."
If scripture is right, we can only be a part of that means to an end. God must ultimately be the Author and finisher ofn any persons faith, Michael.

Michael, that is truly an excellent message to all of us.  We are but to testify, but God alone brings the fruit.  Oh how we need to learn that, and then to learn it again!  Why is it so deep in our natures that we alone can accomplish anything - with no thought of God?  Oh may we learn well that only God can accomplish anything and that we are but His servants.

Great word this morning from Michael and Etta Sue's book.
Michael That was an awesome tract.

I started writing this before I went to Curves I ddn't realize how close it was to the time I usually leave to pick up Willa.

Wonderful service last night and yesterday morning.

Nothing else is new here.  I am going to  sit in the corner with Jane, Colin, and Jeannine.

Good word here this morning!

The wind is blowing, so I will go walk on the treadmill rather than outdoors.  I do not like the wind.  :(

I'm happy to say there isn't much on my calendar today.  That's always nice.  :)

Liz, I really enjoyed the poem you posted.  Don't work so hard, Grammies are supposed to get to take it easier, you know.   ;)  (Advice I should heed myself.)

See you later!

Hi all,

Church was GREAT! last night.  Oh what a mighty God we serve!  I feel so much better about things than I have in 7 months.  God is working on restoring everything that Satan has taken away from us.  Praise His wonderful name!

I'm sorry to all if it seems I've been more of a drag, but it was hard to be in my shoes, until now.

Larry, is the drought affecting your family like what they show in the news?  I think about you when hearing about it.

My camera "died" a few weeks back, so now I need to get a new one.  Any suggestions?  I liked it being digital.  Nothing really fancy, but sturdy.  Like taking pictures of the kids and such.

I gotta run, "trying" to clean house today, but can't stay off the computer.  8)

Later,
Samantha

Sure sad to read about your camera, Samantha.  I'm surprised at how the prices of cameras has really gone down.  Our first in 2000 cost over 1200. and now you can get better ones for around the 200 to 300 dollar mark.

I received a call about my niece who was born with a heart defect.  Her dad died suddenly of the same defect when he was only about 20 or 21; then later his brother died as well.  They said that particular thing was only passed to the males in the family.  Audra was born 7 months after her father's death.  Anyway, about two years ago they found that Audra also has the defect.  They put in a pacemaker and defribillator, and she seemed to be doing well, was exercising and doing daycare, taking care of her husband and two little kids.  Anyway, it seems the defibrillator failed, she had a heart attack, blacked out, was blind and could not talk.  She could hear.  They took her to Mayo Clinic; where they said they will watch her for three days, then go in for open heart surgery.  Said her heart is so enlarged on one side they may "slice off" part of it.  :'(

Would you please pray for Audra?  She's a lovely young woman, such a wonderful and loving mother, and has so much to live for.  My sister is frantic--this is her eldest grandchild and she has always been so close to her.  Thanks.

Also----after hearing about this, I was looking in our little small town newspaper and there were two ads about the lead wires on defibrillators failing---causing five deaths and many surgeries to swap them out.  Of course I thought about YOU, Larry.  The brand is Meditronic Sprint Fidelis.  Please tell me that is not the brand you have!  And if it is, get it checked now!  We do not want anything bad to happen to you.  <3

Oh, Janet, I most certainly will be in prayer for Audra ... and all who are close to her and those working toward her recovery and care.

My son-in-law has a pacemaker but it doesn't include a defibrillator.  What a scary thing to have to think about!

Janet, do not fret for me as I don't have that kind.  I have a St. Jude's (not associated with the hospital).  I recently saw an article about this problem with the other brand and they had problems a year or so ago.  Glad they didn't use that kind on me.
Title: Re: Thoughts for the Week of November 4
Post by: Janet on November 05, 2007, 04:59:45 PM
Thank God for that, Larry!  But if they had problems a year ago and did not inform all patients who had them, that is.....unforgivable!  I'm so relieved to know yours is another brand, and thanks for your quick response.

Thanks, Jane.  I just keep picturing Audra at our family reunion last June, how kind and loving she is with her kids, how she adores them.  Please, God, protect Audra and spare her life.

I am going to call my sister and ask if there is anything new about Audra.

It has been a busy day and we are getting ready to leave to have dinner with friends and then play some cards or games.

We are going to Augusta, GA on Saturday to see our granddaughter and great grandchildren.  We have never seen the youngest and he is 2 years old.  We did get to see the great granddaughter when she was 4 months old and now she is 4 years old.  It should be a wonderful day.

Our daughter is coming out tomorrow evening and will spend the night and then go back on the bus on Wednesday morning.  The chiropractor is offering free treatments for his regular patients and both she and my wife have appointments at 6:30 tomorrow evening.

Time to leave.

Words and music by William J. Gaither

"He is not here: for he is risen, as he said.
Come, see the place where the Lord lay."
Matthew 28:6

God sent His son, they called Him, Jesus;
He came to love, heal and forgive;
He lived and died to buy my pardon,
An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives!

Chorus
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!

How sweet to hold a newborn baby,
And feel the pride and joy he gives;
But greater still the calm assurance:
This child can face uncertain days because He Lives!

Chorus
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!

And then one day, I'll cross the river,
I'll fight life's final war with pain;
And then, as death gives way to vict'ry,
I'll see the lights of glory and I'll know He lives!

Chorus
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!

Morning all,

Guess I'll come out of the corner for a moment and catch you all up on the latest. My dad is doing very well since his heartattack about a month ago. Pretty much back to his old self. My mom's dimentia is slowly worsening.

Michael is doing well. My husband has decided he cant handle things anymore and so has taken off in a motor home, might be back in a year or whenever. He has in effect left me a single mom with a special needs child because he is thinking only of himself and not caring much about anything else.

The doctors finally let me not have to do physical therapy anymore with my shoulder, its as good as it's gonna get. Too much arthritis. Now the knee doctor gets a crack at me, my knee is bone on bone and nothing left of much else in there. Will know more friday.

I do read and pray for all here, I just would rather do it from the quiet corner. May you all have a God filled and blessed day! Ok, nuff said, back to the corner with Colin, Marilyn and Jane.

Still trusting,
><>Jeannine

If'n ya'll want my opinion, (here it 'tis, even if'n ya don't want it) I think ya'll should come outta that corner!!!  Ya'll have much to offer to others in need!!

I didn't come in here yesterday after I posted after the devotion.  Busy day....uh, doing nothing!!  But I certainly want to thank all of you for your kind words about the devotion and especially to Michael for his words.  Tell me if I am wrong but we can coax, prod, fish, command, etc. all we want for someone to except Christ.  But God first has to choose us to be one of His children and then we have the choice to accept or not accept Christ as our Lord and Savior.  Thank God, I am one of his children and therefore I chose to accept Christ as my Lord and Savior.

Well, in an hour or so, I have someone coming to talk to me about Medicare, Medigap and Medicare Drug program.  I have a feeling that I may be spending money monthly instead of some here, a lot there and so forth!

I have a pot of chili on the burner.  MMMMMmmmm, it smells so good!  It is only 35° here on a bright and sunny day.  A great day for chili!!

Etta Sue, Darrel made chili a couple days ago, and it was SO good! (Slurp!)  ;)

It is not God's will for any to perish, but for all to come to a saving knowledge of Jesus..  But we do have the free will to choose to accept Him, or to go to hell.

I think that corner is getting too crowded, and I know they are not being quiet over there----so you might as well come on out and talk with the rest of us!  We are all family here, aren't we?

Jeannine, I'm so sorry to hear that your husband has taken off.  You really need his support for you and Michael---on the other hand, if he was crabby and irascible, it may be more peaceful without him.  Prayers for your shoulder, knee, and of course for Michael.

I got hold of my sister early this morning and learned a bit more about Audra's condition.  The defect she inherited causes the walls of the heart to thicken.  She also has a defective valve in her heart.  And the defibrillator she has IS one of those recalled!  She will undergo open heart surgery probably on Thursday.  She says Audra describes her episodes as "white-outs" and says she is looking at the hem of Jesus' garment.  She is momentarily unable to stand, see or talk, but can hear.  She has been having these spells about once a day!  Scary!  They told her that her heart only beats on its own about 1% of the time.  Please pray for Audra.  She's about 30 years old, has a 6 year old boy and a 3 year old girl.  Thanks.

I'd better stop before your eyes get tired!

Jeannine, I'm so sorry to read your post.  I'm happy that Michael is doing a little better but so unhappy about the actions of your husband and I will be remembering your situation in my time of prayer each day.  I had no idea.  So please don't stay in that corner!

OK All y-all I'll come out for just a bit.  Jeannie I am so sorry to hear that your husband has left you a single mom with a special needs child. That is so hurtful my heart goes out to you and I will be praying for you sister.

Not much on my  short list for today. The car is getting a new muffler and I  will have lunch at the Arcata Senior Center if the car is done in time. Then I will come home and walk the dogs. I wish I could say I am going to work.

Right now I am waiting on the phone with AARP to cancel my health insurance  so I can go back on Medicaid. I just can't afford the premiums at this time. I have to cut back wherever I can.

Back to the corner now.

HI all.  I agree with Etta Sue about not staying in the corner but an occasional posting is better than no posting and we each have to make that decision for ourselves.

Jeannine, what a burden you have to carry.  My heart goes out to you.  Glad your son and father are doing better and hope the knee doctor will be able to help you.  I just can't understand a father leaving his family but each person must make his/her own decisions.

Etta Sue, hope you get a lot of good info on your health insurance situation.  One reason I really like Kaiser is that I don't have to deal with all of that.  Of course, I know that Kaiser isn't available in many locations.  I was happy this year to see our monthly premiums are being reduced about $20 a month but haven't seen if any of the deductibles or co-pays are being increased.

Pat had gone to a quilt shop with her good friend this morning and I am sure they will have lunch, which is nice.

I am listening to radio Pandora via the computer.  Larry - thanks ever so much, we really enjoy this set-up.  Today, I made a radio station on old church songs.  I was just listening to "Softly and Tenderly, Jesus is Calling" and now is "Why me Lord".  Randy Travis sings the first one.  It is like going down memory lane.  Can you hear me singing along?

Jeannine:  Peace be with you - may you be surrounded with help and compassion.

Etta Sue:  I am still coughing but will come out of the corner.

Spent my morning finally in the basement cutting fabic for a special pillowcase with trim of musical instruments.  - Plan to make at least 3 different pillow cases.  Then, also quilted stiff bowls for each family - prepared the fabric and now to cut before sewing.

Larry:  My very best wishes for a warm and wonderful Saturday for you and Pat.
Pandora is playing "nearer my God to thee" - love this Pandora.  The last time I heard this song was on a car radio as we were going over a pass  between Aspen and Leadville - it was snowing hard & the highway closed right behind us - treacherous.  We didn't speak and I suddenly realized that the band on the Titanic had played this when going down - not a good sign.  But - we made it.

Janet:  It sounds like this operation will be of help to your niece.  Our SonIL used to work for the M compay and is now with a German company & they have never had any recalls.  Praying for your niece and sister.

I have been sitting in the corner listening to all the chatter.

We have had snow most of today.  The ground is too warm for it to stay, but enough to make the day miserable.

I have come up with an idea for my grands.  They love cookies, especially Johnny.  So for Christmas I am going to fill a shoe box with all different kinds of cookies for him as well as the others.  Also Heather is coming over to help make candy and toffee's.  I will fill a small (she says very small) box with candies we have made as well.  They very rarely get candy from grandma, so when they do it is a real treat.

I am closing off, I will continue to listen to the conversation and pray for the needs.  Till later

I just got home from the Thanksgiving dinner at the care home.  I was the only "family" at our table, so I had my hands full!  Mom, Beth, and Janet C. all have very limited use of their hands; so I filled their plates, cut their meat, buttered their bread, filled their glasses, etc.  But it was a good meal, and pleasant company.  My sister had to work tonight, so she wasn't there.  And Janet C. has no family here.

Put the lid back on Pandora's Box---quick!!

Some fantastic images there so I hope you all go and vote.  Grab a piece of paper and pencil and write down your top TEN choices before you start to vote and then vote all at once.  You can't do a few and then think that you can come back and finish.  The software won't let you do that.

Enjoy!

Had a great night out last night at a one man show by Rick Wakeman (ex keyboard player of 'The Strawbs' & 'YES') he's now 58, umpteen heart attacks ex-wives and solo albums to his name, and his fingers still move faster than a speeding bullet on his keyboards !   His set included 'Amazing Grace' and 'The day thou gavest' amongst his more well known stuff.

Hi everyone.  I am up very early as had to get our daughter on the 5:30 bus to get back downtown.  She had a 6:30 pm chiropractic appointment last night but one of the buses broke down and she had to wait a long time for the bus.  Fortunately the chiropractor waited for her.  Of course, her mother was in the office and was keeping them advised as to where she was. The bus station is about 2 minutes away so when she got in I had the car running and got her there as fast as possible.  She really needed to see him.  This was the first time she has used this bus service.  I can't drive downtown and back for the $3 it cost her plus it saves me a long drive both ways.

It is chilly here this morning with the temperature at about freezing.  Suppose to warm up into the higher 50s.  Still no rain in our area.

Wordsculptor, it sounds like you really enjoyed the concert.  It is great to hear an accomplished keyboard player.

Carol, glad you are enjoying the Pandora.com website.  I have listened to it a lot as it is easy to use.  For those of you do don't know what Pandora is let me explain.  It is a website that has professional musicians who screen music and you can create your own "radio stations" by indicating a particular artist and you can add other artists or types of music to a radio station and can have up to 100 stations (the last time I looked).  What is nice is that you here not only the artist you designate but others of the same genre or type that you might listen to and I have found the quality very good.  If you don't like a song you can tell them to never play it again.  When you register it remembers your stations and it doesn't require you to keep software on your computer but downloads what it needs to play each time.

Judy, it sounds like all those cookies will keep you busy but I am sure they will be greatly enjoyed.

Janet, it was wonderful that you could be at the nusing home to help Beth, your mother and the other lady.  It must be terribly lonely to be in a nursing home and to seldom, if ever, have someone visit with you, especially loved ones.

Pat, I will try to look a the photo challenge.  I did look at the photos a couple of days ago and it will be very hard to select a favorite or even 10 favorites.

Hope everyone has a nice day.  We have Bible study this morning with our pastor and then I have choir practice this evening.  It has been 3 weeks since I last practiced, although I did sing on Sunday as we had practiced the anthem we did several times and had done it before.

Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His Name.
Psalm 29:2

Words: Elisha A. Hoffman, in Joy to the World, by Tullius O?Kane, C. C. McCabe, and John Sweney (Cincinnati, Ohio: Hitchcock & Walden, 1878).

Music: John H. Stockton

Down at the cross where my Savior died,
Down where for cleansing from sin I cried,
There to my heart was the blood applied;
Glory to His Name!

Refrain
Glory to His Name,
glory to His Name:
There to my heart was the blood applied;
Glory to His Name!

I am so wondrously saved from sin,
Jesus so sweetly abides within;
There at the cross where He took me in;
Glory to His Name!

Refrain

Oh, precious fountain that saves from sin,
I am so glad I have entered in;
There Jesus saves me and keeps me clean;
Glory to His Name!

Refrain

Come to this fountain so rich and sweet,
Cast thy poor soul at the Savior's feet;
Plunge in today, and be made complete;
Glory to His Name!

Pat even though I cannot hear the music, I can hear the singing of this hymn.  How many times we gathered around the piano and sang hymns like this and many others.  What memories.  Now Kass and Elby are learning the piano and hopefully we will again gather around the piano and sing the favourites.

Good Morning I have been a little bit busy this morning, cooking food for the dogs, doing dishes twice, going to Curves etc. I will go to Tai Chi at 8:30 then on the my little house cleaning job at 9:30.  The sun WAS out so nice and it looked to be a great day BUT then the fog  rolled in very thick right now.

This afternoon I think I will clean out my pantry cabinet and clean of my counter and able. Too much clutter. I really need to do my china cabinet. Something I have been putting off for a year or more.

Yesterday I DID cancel my health insurance and apply for medicaid.  Nothing else new here. Back to the corner.

Noon here in Indiana.

As I was watching TV last evening, I thought...my throat seems sore.  Sure enough, I woke up this morning with a sore throat, full sinus and cough.  I feel much better now but still a little bit of sore throat.  And I just got over a cold!!!

This morning I called the girls in my class that doesn't have email.  I found out that one of my classmate's husband passed away early this morning.  He was about 20 years older than Darla and had had a stroke and wheelchair bound.  He was in the hospital with pneumonia.  Sad.

Then I made a run to Lapel to get stamps at the Post Office and Dollar General.  I did a first today.  I went to the Dollar General for three items and left with just those three items!!!

I also got Medigap...Medicare Supplement yesterday.  I shouldn't be getting any mail saying I owe anything for a medical service.  Yes, I am paying a monthly premium but at least, I won't be stuck with a big bill that needs to be paid all at once.  For my health, I think this is the best alternative.

Time for lunch and this afternoon I am having a termite inspector check my home and garage.  This house had termites 20 years ago.  The inspection is a security blanket for me.

Judy B-I so agree with you!  When we still lived in Southern California, my hubby and I and my mom would all sit in the jacuzzi out on the patio and sing the hymns in three part harmony.  Who knows what the neighbors thought?  Hey, guess that could be considered seed planting, eh?  A fun way to do it!

We also did it gathered around the piano since my brother is a pianist.  We had a group that would go to nursing homes and such and sing, too.  Oh, what fond memories!

Thanks for that hymn, Pat.  I sang it along in my head as I read it.  It's hard to find churches these days that still sing enough of the old hymns to suit me, but ours does a pretty good job of balancing with the praise and worship songs.

I'm praying for all the needs here.  God bless your day, everyone!

Thanks Kathleen for that nice memory of singing the great old hymns of the faith with your family.

Glad your church is having a good balance.  I'm so happy that my church is using the hymn book and singing these each Sunday.

Awake at 2:30 A.M., I went to the chilly living room and wrapped myself in an afghan while opening the bible to whatever - it was Eccles. 33.  Perfect message to me that "nothing is new under the sun".  The entire word was like a tender reminder of not to fret about things - and that is just what made me wide awake - concern about son being out of work.  And, here I felt that I was really letting this go all along and being so calm but apprently my brain wasn't about to shut this prediciment out.  Went back to sleep around 4 A.M.  - ahhhhh, great to relax and sleep.

Pat:  Larry explained Pandora.com so well - I like listening to it and often just minimize it while working on the 'puter.  Then, if some song isn't very likeable, I can quickly bring Pandora up and click - I do not like this song - they say they are sorry and will never play it again.  What power!   :)

Larry:  Thanks for stepping in here to answer Pat.  For some reason, I seem to be having to delete too many nonsense & wild songs.

So, I went to the pool this morning as exercise is good for stress too.  Then, bought some fabric to make pillowcases for gifts this Christmas.  Fun cotton fabrics with snowboarders/ airplanes/hockey/ and I sewed the music themed one this morning.  Ran up to the church with a fabric donation but didn't stay to help - as if they need me to cough around them.
Time to fix dinner - avacados are ripe so will put it all in a salad or make tacos.

I'm home again, from a trip to Garden City to take Beth to the urologist.  Total waste of time and money.  He said she's fine, didn't even look at her, just at the sonogram results; said come back in a year.  They could have faxed him the results and saved us the trip.  >:(  Oh, well......Pat went with us, and we enjoyed the day.  Of course, just getting out for the day is a treat for Beth, so guess that makes it worth it.

I need to go mix our Reliv shakes and see what's for supper!

Just wrote this one tonight

In Adam You are Dying

1 Corinthians 15: 22, "For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive." You know the first half of that scripture instinctively, you know that from the very moment a child is conceived it begins to die, you grow up, you grow old, and at some point along the way, you are going to pass from this earth.
What I want to say to you in this leaflet, is something so very simple even a child can understand it, yet seemingly it is beyond the comprehension of the grown up mind to grasp. The thing is. Will you ask Jesus Christ to come into your life, at this very moment in time? It's a simple enough thing to do. Because Jesus said. John 6:47 "Most assuredly. I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life." Why should I ask Jesus to come into my life? Simply because you owe it to yourself , to be be saved from judgement and become, Born Again.
"Born again, what's that?" Born again is not some glib slogan, or techno Christian speak banded about by modern got myself saved with it Christian's, it is a fact of eternal life. Jesus said, John 3: 7, "You must be Born Again."
Nicodemus came to Jesus by night knowing that Jesus was a teacher sent from God, and showed this through the miracles he worked, but Jesus said something to Nicodemus that really confounded him. Nicodemus saw in Jesus, many things relating to the kingdom of God, to which Jesus replied. John 3: 3, "Except a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God." The only other place the phrase, Born Again occurs is in 1 Peter 1: 23, "Being born again not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible." Then Peter goes on to quote some Old Testament, verses that says, V24, "For all flesh is as grass and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls away." The quotation is from Psalm 103: 14-16, "For He knoweth our frame He remembers we are dust. (our nature from Adam's sin, and its consequences} As for man his days are as grass; as the flower of the field, so he flourishes. For the wind passesn over it and it is gone; and the place thereov shall know it no more." This theme is carried on in Psalm 104: 29-30, "You hide your face, they are troubled; you take away their breath they die, and return to their dust. You send forth Your Spirit, they are created; and You renew the facen of the earth."
We in Adam, are dying in his sin, but if we receive Christ into our lives, we are being re-created, anew in God's Spirit, Jesus was surprised that Nicodemus being a teacher of the law, didn't know this, because here in the Old Testament, the new birth is mentioned quite clearly, that's why Peter refers back to it.
Colossians 2: 6, says, "As you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk you in Him." Why must you receive Christ, because He is God's eternal gift to you? You cannot earn a gift, or buy it off the giver, to try and do so is an insult to the one who is giving you that gift, a true gift is given because the giver loves you and wants to give you something special as a token of their love for you. John 3: 16, "FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, THAT WHOSOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM SHALL NOT PERISH, BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE." Does what I've just said, not put a new slant on what it is to become a Christian, if so what is holding you back from having what's rightfully yours? New life for the asking.

Janet:  Sometimes, when we think time has been wasted it really hasn't been wasted at all.  You had a day off from housew**k.

Summicron  Thanks for your posting - it looks like you have put a lot of research into your pamphlet material and it all comes together very nicely.  You write pamphlets?  That must be a lot of work and talent.

A friend changed her email address so I just sat and wrote a long letter to her - via email.  It goes so much quicker to type.

Tomorrow is quilting with friends in Loveland so I need to get a project ready - actually may bring the crochet hook & yarn.  We do anything.  I have to cut out a lot of material for the pillowcases I am making and not sure I want to haul my sewing machine up from the basement to the car and to the church basement - although they have an elevator.  Super nice.

Not good news on weather forecast for this month at all as Colorado gets snow now and here it is into the 60's and sunny.  Some days are about 20 to 25 degrees above normal.  There is one fire in the hills and no rain predicted.

Hi everyone.  I must leave in a few minutes to go about an hour away to my retirees luncheon.  We meet every two months but I haven't been there the last two meetings.  We go to a Ryan's and there are usually about a dozen of us.  We just eat and visit, no program or responsibilities.  One of the men always contacts us to remind us and then calls in a reservation so they have a table set up for us.  One of the joys of being retired.

It is a chilly but beautiful day but like Carol we are just not getting any rain.  People are taking actions to reduce water usage.  We don't use a lot of water but are trying to conserve where possible.

Carol, even though we know it does no good for us to worry about our children, it is easier said than done.  However, our worrying isn't going to change anything (guess it just gives us something to do).  Hope you don't have very many nights of not being able to sleep.

Janet, sorry your trip to the doctor with Beth seemed a waste.  One of the nice things that Kaiser is doing is to e-mail us test results and I have had the doctor call us rather than have to make an appointment and go in to see him.  I am sure the outing was good for Beth but hard on you and your friend.

Summicron, thanks for sharing your leaflet material.

Kathleen, I feel fortunate in that our church still has a traditional service and sings the old hymns.

Etta Sue, sorry to hear you have developed another cold.  It seems you have had more than your share of colds in the last few months.

Marilyn, hope you got your cabinet cleaning done as planned.

Judy and Pat, the memories of singing the hymns in the past is a wonderful thing to have.

About time to leave for the day.

THE FOUR SEASONS

I; said the Spring will teach you of birth
Renewal of life and growth of the earth
The beginning of days when a baby is born
That quickly pass by like the dew of the morn

I; said the Summer will teach you in truth
Of the sunshine of life in the exuberance of youth
The length of your days that seem forever to go on
Is the time of your strength that will quickly be gone

I; said the Autumn will teach you of reaping
The harvest of abundance in mists that are weeping
The shortening of days and leaves that are falling
Like life's fading glory in the winds that are calling

I; said the Winter will teach you of death
In the covering of my snow and my cold frosty breath
The ending of days as now you are old
And the grave beckons to you darkly and cold

I; said the Year will teach of seasons that are four
Now they are ended and will not return anymore
The number of my days are counted and gone
Now I must go for time has swiftly passed on

Learn you then pupils and know of the reasons
To study the lesson of the four seasons
Your birth and strength and a reaping that is coming
And icy fingers that are reaching in a cold death wind that is humming

Colin Moffett

I voted in the Autumn contest this morning. There are some stunning pictures and it was hard to choose and I wish I could have voted twice.....like they used to do here in N.Ireland....eh Pat! Even the dead were able to vote at times! I am always inspired by the beauty of nature and I do love this time of year. I am disappointed I could not get any pictures of Autumn scences as the winds seemed to have whipped the leaves of the trees while they were still green or like the beech trees; went a miserable brown without bothering to go through all the nice colour changes. :'(  As I say...I am always inspired by nature and I am also nearly a year with you guys so I do hope you like the poem. If Keith Wallis goes to critique it....give him a clip on the ear for me! :clobber: We have another site for doing that on! God bless

When it rains, it pours.  Ivalou went for her yearly checkup yesterday.  She failed her EKG.  She has Atrial Fibulation. Our Mom had it too.  But we thought it was caused by the auto accident Mom was in.  But the doctor said that some people just get a-fib when they age.  Now Ivalou will have a siege of blood tests until her coumadin gets regulated.  Then tested every three months.  I remember Mom having to do this.  So keep Ivalou in your prayers, please.

I am off to 60 Chix today at Olive Gardens.  Judy B is going with me.  We may be the only two there!!  I haven't heard from anyone else that is going but then they don't reply to emails generally.

Time to get ready!!

Great message in your leaflet/tract, Michael.  The plan of salvation is so simple, it's a shame some try to make it hard.

Larry, hope you have a great time at your retirees luncheon.

Carol, have fun, whatever you decide to work on.  It is nice to get together and work with friends.

Yesterday morning as I was getting ready to leave, I opened my makeup compact and my blush brush fell out---and right down the drain of the lavatory sink!  :-[  Darrel went to take the trap apart, and the pipe (plastic) came apart inside the wall.  >:(  Plumbing problems are so aggravating.  :ticked:  When I got home, he had it all fixed.  I'm so thankful Darrel knows how to do things like that.

Marilyn, I guess all the resting I did after my wrist surgery was the right ticket for my arm, as it is hardly bothering me at all now.  Thanks for asking.

Etta Sue, sorry to hear Ivalou's news.  Heart problems are rather scary.  My sister called this morning to tell me Audra's heart is in very dangerous condition, and she will be having open heart surgery on Nov. 19th.  Please pray for her.  The heart walls are so thick it is interfering with the flow of blood.

COLIN---I really love this poem about the seasons!  Thanks so much for sharing it with us.  Hey, we still are planning a trip to Ireland!

I need to go eat lunch with my Youth Friend today.  I have some little wooden snowmen for us to paint, hope she will enjoy that project.

Pat, how are you?  We need to talk!

To Janet, No actually, God plants scripture in my mind, He does, usually scripture that ties in with, or is a quotation, in the New Testament, taken from the Old Testament and when I look into them, they tie up perfectly, and sometimes, just sometimes, I get a tract out of them. But I must write them in one sitting, whatever the cost, because itf I stop I loose my train of thought, and they never get finished. Usually takes me Two, two and a half hours to complete.

What I really wanted to say on here is that, in order to get through to people who profess not to be Christians, is that hammering home the gospel of repentance and accepting Jesus, can sometimes be self defeating, As I have said, "God is the author and finisher of our salvation," And it often perhaps even just a single word, that becomes the spark that causes realisation in a persons life. That happened to me, somebody was telling me about the need to accept Jesus into my life, and I knew instantly, I was a Christian and had been for months, because God found me in a graveyard, and spoke to me. I felt like shouting out, "If what you say is true, then I must be a Christian." No I just kept that quiet, I wish I had though.
The most remarkable testimony, I ever heard, was a man, who was a farmer, each morning he went into his milking shed to milk his cows, one morning he went into his milking shed, and came out a Christian, he doesen't know what happened, he simply knew the indwelling of Christ in his heart.
A man who used to come to an evening gospel service, every Sunday night, never seemed to respond to whatever the preacher spoke about. But then I got some John's gospels from America, (I've got Wells Fargo, mail bags in my Loft, hows that for a souvenir?) however I digress, I gave that man, one of those John's gospels, and he said, "I just may well become a Christian," he died a few weeks later, I think in his heart he did accept Christ.
Very often I think we can preach and preach to people, when all it needs is to leave that person in the hands of God, a bit like throwing a lit match in the petrol tank to start the car, when all that's needed is just the right spark, and the engine will turn over itself. The trouble is we don't know how that will happen, its God who holds the ignition key, I guess that's what Paul calls the mystery of the gospel. "And God added to the church daily those who were being saved, He's still doing it.
Therefore be ready to give the gospel and receive those whose hearts receive it. :bash: :thumbsup2:

Hello to all.

Yesterday we woke up to our first intorduction of winter (snow) for this season. Today it is sunny and fresh but what little snow we had  is now gone.

Jeannie: I was saddened to read that your hubby has chosen to leave,  May you feel that Jesus is with you in your time of stress.

We went to Wal Mart this morning and it pays to check your sales receipts as I have to go back after work for a correction as they did a double billing.  ($10.00)   if it was less I would not bother going but this is a little to much. and yes I know it was a error.

Mel has curling this evening so I had best get dinner ready before leaving for work then all he has to do is put it in the oven.

See I am out of the corner, who will follow?

I've walked both dogs it is a bit chilly out there at 50° my nose got cold and ran.
Al if you make some comment about my nose running it will be totally expected of you. Ha ha  ;D

Not much else going on here. I am thinking of making an apple cobbler. I did make Posole soup for my supper ate a bunch of walnuts but that all beside doing some laundry.

Marilyn, what in the world is posole soup???

Busy day for me again.  And we will be leaving very early in the morning for Amarillo.  Darrel has two doctor's appointments, also one to get the van repaired.  We will spend the night and be there on Saturday for Mother's 95th birthday celebration and early Thanksgiving dinner.  Then when we get home we only have one day before leaving for Peru.  So I won't likely be in here much!

We are still having very nice days, up near 70 by 10:30 AM or so, and then cools off again at night.  I like it!  :)

Hi everyone.  Will check in this morning as have a full day and will be tired when I get home this afternoon.  I am leading an audit team to audit the books of our Computer Learning Center and then we have our monthly volunteer meeting, followed by a business luncheon and then our User Group Meeting.  This will be the last User Group Meeting for 2007.

We have had a little change of plans and are going to have to wait one additional day to go see our granddaughter and great grandchildren.  We will be going on Sunday rather than Saturday.  Our daughter is coming out for the weekend on the bus this afternoon and will go with us.  We will take her back on Sunday evening as she has a number of fragile ship models that she wants to take to her apartment and I told her I wasn't going to try to move them.  If one gets broken it will be her doing and not mine.

Janet, hope you have a good trip to Texas and the doctor appointments for Darrel turn out well and you are able to get the van repaired.  We will miss you while you are gone on your trip but that sounds like a wonderful adventure and so glad you both are up to making the trip.

Wordsculptor, hope the cystoscopy goes well this afternoon.

Marilyn, it seems tha seeing the chiropractor is a life long thing for those that are helped by the treatments.  I am fortunate in that I don't have any back problems.  Both my wife and daughter benefit greatly from the treatments.

Ruth, does Mel actually play the curling game or just observe?

Etta Sue, sorry to hear that Ivalou has heart problems.

Guess I had better head out.  A special hi to those who have posted that I didn't mention by name.

Continuing on the Posoli soup. It is a Mexican soup, and considered a staple and served with toppings and warm tortillas.  The link to the recipe that I posted in 2003 is in the post above.

I know that not many people look at the recipes and even less  post a comments, I can always be guaranteed that Etta Sue will make a comment as she is the moderator of that forum. I have posted a great number of recipes.

Back to my part of the corner.

Back from hospital with a painful but satisfactory 'all clear'.

Despite the pain
I will refrain
from rising to Colin's challenge
on another site
I'll gain respite
or otherwise avenge.
Besides on the 'other site' I am a big fish and I can draw BLOOD !(https://www.christianphotographers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fbestsmileys.com%2Fevil%2F9.gif&hash=f1c3c773e2403fd132e5fccdab3ca29863cd684b)

We are mixed up people....our noses run and our feet stink!

Busy day.  The phone rang even before I was out of bed.  I was awake because of Inky.  She will tap me with her paw on my nose or cheek when she thinks I should be up and about.  The phone call was from Ivalou...just to chat.  So I got up, fixed my breakfast, read my devotions, wrote some checks to pay some bills and walked for 20 minutes.  Then on to the computer.  Before I got caught up with emails, the doorbell rang.  Ivalou.  So we sat and chatted some more.

Now I have had my lunch and I am waiting for the furnace man to come and clean my furnace and replace something that he said would need replaced this year.

Bright and sunny today in Indiana.  48°.  My solar heat is going.  My fireplace is going.  Maybe the furnace will be cool when the furnace man gets here!

Have a great trip, Janet!  Bring back pictures!!!!

Hahahaha Colin you are a hoot!!

This has been a busy day.  Kassie and I had a girls day out.  It is part of her birthday present.

We are to have clear weather tomorrow.  That will be good for wood cutting.

On the way home from NBay we saw two fields with Deer.  If I had a hunting license I could have had venison in the freezer.

Well I am off
Back tomorrow.

Hmm   seems like I might be getting a bad press.  Consider it more a case of 'bleeding out the bad humor' as in the days of the barber-surgeon rather than inflicting grievous harm !   Colin gives as good as he gets - I'm sure you all know that by now.

Morning all,

Keith ~ so glad all worked out for you!

Colin ~ Your poem is so beautiful, like they all are and so heart touching. Thank you for sharing them here, I hope other hearts are touched as mine is.  <3

Janet ~ praying for a safe trip for you, wow you sure are busy.

Etta Sue ~ you sure are busy too.

Hi to Pat, Larry, Al, Marilyn, Kathleen, JudyB, Ruthie, and please forgive not naming all others, mind like a sieve you know, but thinking and praying as always, thankfully He knows.

Michael's eeg went well, they got alot of information, except for sleeping. The screen showed lots of seizure activity that we dont even know is going on. Wonder what it would have looked like sleeping. Oh well, they will figure out how to get that. For those who dont know, an eeg measure electrical activity in the brain.

Saw the doc yesterday for my knee, he would have sent me straight to the orthopaedic surgeons office, it is that bad and definitely a candidate for replacement. He also suggested some non invasive stuff, most of which I have been doing already. We will try the cortisone shot, OUCH!  :clobber:, the sleeve to try to stabilize the joint (it is collapsed on the inner side), and some new "gel" to try to revive what very little is left of the cartiledge on the otherside. No gaurentees, dont have to do this but it will buy time to set up nursing for Michael for the couple days til I am allowed to try to walk. Ok nuff said. :-X

Back to the corner for quiet fellowship with Jane, Colin, Marilyn and any others who come too.  <3  May you all have a God filled and blessed day!

Still trusting,
><>Jeannine

Hi everyone.  I had a very busy day yesterday but it all went well.  I spent about a third of my work career as an auditor.  So when our Learning Center needed to do an audit I was tapped to lead the effort.  It was an easy job as we don't have a complicated system.  I had been treasurer for three years in the past so knew the job inside and out.  Fortunately we found no abnormalities.  We then had our volunteer meeting and lunch.  Finally we had a great computer user group with 90 present.  We had Bill Husted, who is a nationally syndicated newspaper columnist called the "Technobuddy" that is based a the Atlanta Journal and Constitution.  This was the 5th time he has spoken to our user group and we really enjoyed his laid back presentation.  The last time he visited with us we made him an honorary member of SeniorNet and he told us we were one of the few groups he speaks before anymore.

I picked up our daughter at the bus stop in the next town and she went back to see the chiropractor.  She is spending the weekend and will go with us tomorrow to see our granddaughter and great grandchildren.  We will then take her back downtown to her apartment on the way home.

I am looking forward to watching Georgia University beat Auburn University later this afternoon and watching some other games as well.

Jeannine, your knee situation certainly sounds terrible painful and unpleasant.

Hope everyone has a good day.  I hope to get back to work on the church website later today.  Our webmaster has been called back into the Army so I am resuming that responsibility at least until someone else comes along.

Good Morning Everyone.

Yesterday my Dehumidifier was delivered that I bought from Bed Bath and Beyond, I got it all set up and  wow I didn't know I had so much humidity n my house.  I had it by the bedroom door but have moved it into the kitchen.

Today I have to o pick up some food and recycle the cardboard that packed the Dehumidifier, some newspapers and magazines.

This evening I am going to Arcata to the First Baptist church for a Worship service. This is going to be very interesting as they do the dance and flags during worship. Our worship leader is taking his guitar and will sit in with their worship team. I guess I will take my Glory rings and join them in dance.

Jeannine good to see where this morning.  Yes your knee does sound painful. I have  my right knee that gives me a problem now and then and it is painful I can just imagine how yours must feel. Will be praying for you sister.

Larry it sounds like you had a productive day yesterday. I finally got my china cabinet cleaned out and everything put back the way I have been wanting to do it for the last two years and didn't have the time. I am getting a lot accomplished  now that I am not working very much.

That's all for now folks.

Good morning.  Bright and sunny in sunny Indiana.  41°.  Not bad...now that I am used to the cooler weather.

I got my furnace cleaned and checked for winter yesterday.  Makes me feel more comforting in using the furnace.  Once it about caught the house on fire so I plan to get it cleaned once a year.

Today I am going with Judy B, my classmate, to the viewing of another classmate's husband.  Darla's husband passed away the 6th.  After the viewing then Judy and I plan to have Chinese buffet and then home.  I need to do some laundry this afternoon.  I am either awful clean or awful dirty....don't know which!!

All of you probably don't realize this but the combination of posts makes this a most interesting place to read in the morning.

Larry:  I slept well but Don started coughing and left for the computer at 4 A.M. - he was doing job seaches for our son, Phil.  Phil was able to work a day or two this week at an old job - his computer has a virus but a good techie friend is coming to his house tonight to help fix the 'puter.  Tomorrow is your reunion.  My prayers for a safe trip and a wonderful time.

Colin:  Such thoughtful writings, we are so lucky to have you in here.  You and Keith - what a pair!  Have a fun day.

Marilyn:  How can a pig be organic?  I know it is the food - how can the meat be different?  I'll come with you to the chiropractor today - aching from carrying a heavy sewing machine at the church yesterday the elevator was broken so had to go up & down two flights.  Rough on these old bones.

Janet:  You gave your wrist rest!  Say that fast.  Peru - is that trip here already?  Our friends really enjoyed.  Are you going with a group?  From now on, I think most of any travel will be escorted for us - we have been crazy to run the way we have & it was too exhausting.  How do you think about it?

Ruth:  We have had those short spurts of snow as well but sorely lacking in anything now.  Have watched the curling on t.v. and I know they do this in northern Minnesota as well.

wordsculptor:  Hooray on your cystology test.  Do you and Colin lives close to each other?  I hope not  :D

Jeanne:  Just wanted to say hello -

I would like to go to church either tonight or tomorrow - we just cannot stop coughing & it is so annoying.  Others at quilting yesterday had the same cough - I had to walk out twice but at least it wasn't a speech or sermon.  Our stomachs cannot take any more medicine.  We are just happy to survive some days.

Carol you are right it is all in the food that is fed to the pigs and no growth hormones or antibiotics or anything that would effect the meat or be in the meat is not used.
The same goes for range fed chickens and turkeys and cattle. o hormones or anitbiotics either. No chemicals on the pastures etc. Chemical free!.

But eeeek!......Keith is little over half an hour away from me by plane and donkeys cart as opposed to you good Americans.....Australians...Canadians etc who are hours and hours and miles away. Now if he took it into his head...he could be over and clip my ear and be back home again within a couple of hours! Gulp! :-[ I better treat him with more reverance than I have been. Talking about Keiths head. His brain is worth about $50,000 amd mine is worth over $500,000. Why.....cos mine has never been used!  :uglystupid:

Take care everyone!  <3

(Click to hear music)

Words and music by Alfred B. Smith and John Peterson

"I am the rose of Sharon, and the lily of the valleys."
Solomon 2:1

There's a Beautiful Rose ever blooming,
In the Garden of God's Love for me;
It has filled all the world with it's fragrance,
It will last for eternity.

Chorus
Rose of Sharon now blooming I see,
Blessed Jesus, who died on the tree;
With my whole heart I sing "Hallelujah!"
Rose of Sharon, so precious to me.

Precious Savior, I'll always adore Thee,
For with Thee no one else can compare;
By Thy Love so divine, I'm enraptured,
Thou are fairer than all of the fair.

Chorus
Rose of Sharon now blooming I see,
Blessed Jesus, who died on the tree;
With my whole heart I sing "Hallelujah!"
Rose of Sharon, so precious to me.

Are you lost in your sins ~ tired of living?
Is your heart filled with bitterness, too?
Come to Jesus, the sweet Rose of Sharon,
He has the power to make you anew.

Chorus
Rose of Sharon now blooming I see,
Blessed Jesus, who died on the tree;
With my whole heart I sing "Hallelujah!"
Rose of Sharon, so precious to me.

Janet:  Another vacation - put me in your suit case.  Enjoy.

Someone was asking about Mel  he once bowled but now has taken up with curling on the local level and really enjoys it, they would like that he join the club but he very much likes being spare the cost is much less and he plays with different folk each week.

Sat evening we went to a concert by Scott Woods 2 hours of fiddle playing, So far he and his family do concerts in Canada and 1-2 weeks in Florida so if you have a chance try to attend.

Into my corner for the evening   Ruth

Good morning all,

Today is a day of remembrance all over the world for those who have served their countries, those who came home and those who didn't. My mom was reading in the paper that here in the states 25% of our veterans live on the streets. That got me thinking, I know that can be dangerous, but here is what I came up with.

VETERANS DAY

Will you remember our veterans this day?
Will you take a moment for them and pray?
For those still with us who struggle still?
For those whose personal battles are uphill?

What of the soldier who trudged through the muck
Who now lives on the street down on his luck
He has seen so much death and pain
Will anyone bring him the good news and life again?

What of the sailor who was aboard a ship
Who now relives history and can't get a grip
Has anyone gone to him and shared the love of God
To show him his service helped protect this sod

What of the marine who came ashore
Who now lives in a box, no one cares anymore
He needs to know about our loving Saviour's sacrifice
Like the one he made when he fought for limb and life

What of the airman who dropped a bomb
Whos memories are now a ticking timebomb
Who will bring him freedom from pain
Bring him new life in our loving Saviour again

And what of those who's lives were lost
Who paid the price our freedom cost
So many who left to fight the war
Who won't come home to us anymore

Remember this day those with us and those gone
They all have sacrificed so we can go on
They heard and answered the call of country and the Lord
So a little time in remembrance we can afford

Jeannine Faith

Let's all, no matter where we are remember our veterans, those still with us and those gone on home to the Lord. May you all have a God filled and blessed day, this Lord's day. Ok back to my corner  :coffee:

A Pittance of Time
by Terry Kelly

They fought and some died for their homeland
They fought and some died now it's our land
Look at his little child, there's no fear in her eyes
Could he not show respect for other dads who have died?

Take two minutes, would you mind?
It's a pittance of time
For the boys and the girls who went over
In peace may they rest, may we never forget why they died.
It's a pittance of time

God forgive me for wanting to strike him
Give me strength so as not to be like him
My heart pounds in my breast, fingers pressed to my lips
My throat wants to bawl out, my tongue barely resists

But two minutes I will bide
It's a pittance of time
For the boys and the girls who went over
In peace may they rest, may we never forget why they died.
It's a pittance of time

Read the letters and poems of the heroes at home
They have casualties, battles, and fears of their own
There's a price to be paid if you go, if you stay
Peace is fought for and won in numerous ways

Take two minutes would you mind?
It's a pittance of time
For the boys and the girls all over
May we never forget our young become vets
At the end of the line it's a pittance of time

It takes courage to fight in your own war
It takes courage to fight someone else's war
Our peacekeepers tell of their own living hell
They bring hope to foreign lands that the hatemongers can't kill.

Take two minutes, would you mind?
It's a pittance of time
For the boys and the girls who go over
In peacetime our best still don battle dress
And lay their lives on the line.
It's a pittance of time

In Peace may they rest,
lest we forget why they died.
Take a pittance of time

I hope that you all click on the video above.

On November 11, 1999 Terry Kelly was in a Shoppers Drug Mart store in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. At 10:55 AM an announcement came over the store's PA asking customers who would still be on the premises at 11:00 AM to give two minutes of silence in respect to the veterans who have sacrificed so much for us.

Terry was impressed with the store's leadership role in adopting the Legion's "two minutes of silence" initiative. He felt that the store's contribution of educating the public to the importance of remembering was commendable.

When eleven o'clock arrived on that day, an announcement was again made asking for the "two minutes of silence" to commence. All customers, with the exception of a man who was accompanied by his young child, showed their respect.

Terry's anger towards the father for trying to engage the store's clerk in conversation and for setting a bad example for his child was later channeled into a beautiful piece of work called, "A Pittance of Time". Terry later recorded "A Pittance of Time" and included it on his full-length music CD, "The Power of the Dream".

In Flanders Fields
by John McCrae, May 1915

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the Crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up your quarrel with the foe;
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep,
though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Good morning all,

Colin asked me to post his poem for Remembrance day since he may not be able to get on the big computer until late, so here is his offering for todays remembrances.

WE MUST REMEMBER

What remember we of soldier men
Who went to battle to fight and die?
Muddy trenches soaked blood and gore
In giving life; could not do more
Who never saw homeland again
And now in silent graves they lie

What remember we of airmen
Who soared like birds on metal wings?
Blue sky background to twists and turns
When wind fanned the flame that burns
Of spiralling plane; never to fly again
As in plummets end; death it brings

What remember we of seamen
Who fought on the oceans of angry foam
The ever moving restless waves
Tell mournfully of watery graves
As they lap the shores again
Whispering of souls who never came home

What remember we of woman; man
Who sacrificed life to keep us free?
They stood between us and the foe
An awful debt to them we owe
When evil succeeded not in hellish plan
What means it all to you and me?

What remember we of the Crucified
Who went to die for you and me
Blood poppy red on cross was spilled
The words uttered before breath was stilled
It is finished! He loudly cried
And victory was won on that tree

Call to remembrance of sacrifice made
Gather your thoughts this day of November
Of ones who died to keep you free
Of Jesus who died for you on a tree
Shame on us if their memories should fade
And we never bothered of them to remember

I am fortunate in that I have not lost anyone close to me in any kind of warfare and was born after the second world war.  It does not mean that I feel no reverence toward those who have died nor to those who serve their countries in dangerous ways.  My contribution:

The naming of the dead

I do not know them,
these whose sweat and blood
congeal on foreign soil.
Their names, as strangers,
assault the local tongue,
falling, misspoken,
if spoken at all.
Friends and enemies,
mingled paths their misfortunate destiny,
tangled together by vaguery.
I do not know them,
their names fill no lines
in my address book,
their phone numbers
share no history with me.
But I will name them;
every mother's son,
every missing father,
every soul
upon its new adventure.
I will name them,
proclaim them,
claim back their pride
for all are hero
foreign soil or no
who jeopardise themselves
for me.

Pat, I didn't see where you click to see the video.  Am I blind?  I think I have seen the video before though.

Good morning!  Raining and gloomy in Indiana today!  The wind about turned my umbrella inside out!  Good to be back inside a nice, warm house.

When I got to church, I read in the bulletin that Danny was preaching all four services since David was in Boston with an Independent Christian Church there.  So my brain started working, thinking that the only differences in these services would be the music so I left after one service.  I went to a restaurant for breakfast and as soon as I got in the door, Tony and Charlene waved me to sit with them.  What a treat!  Then someone tapped me on the shoulder and it was one of the 60 Chix.  She just got home from Florida Friday...she was wearing her winter coat and was about to freeze!!  Then I looked up and here came a second cousin...she said, she sees Tony and Charlene there about every week and kept thinking that they don't know I am their cousin!  So now maybe Tony and Charlene can say hi when they see Kristy.

Now I am home.  It is so dark.  If I had lights that come on when it got dark, they would be on.  My lights blinked a few minutes ago...had to wait until the DSL came back on.

Kitty may come over this afternoon.  She is trying to print Christmas cards and she can't get them to print at her house.  Wants to see if it is her printer or what.  If it prints here, it is her printer....right?

Good morning to all:

Although we did not loose anyone to the war Mel could have been one without a father as his dad did serve overseas, he came home with memories that never never would he ever talk about.

Good morning ... Thank you, all, for the poems and remembrances.  I have had several family members serve in the military over the years.  Most recently were my two grandsons, who were in Iraq.  Both came home but one, Bryan, was homeless for several months until someone took pity on him and let him sleep on the couch in their apartment.

He has now rejoined the Army and serving in a different capacity than combat.  We are grateful for the prayers answered on his behalf.  He has a new determination to "Finish right!"  I believe he will.

Etta Sue, right in the middle of the video, there's an arrow.  Click that.

Thanks Jeannine for posting Colin's poem.  It was late (middle of the night) when I was free to do some things and forgot where I put his poem to post.  Thanks so much Colin!

Sound the Battle Cry  (http://www.christianphotographers.com/sounds/sound-the-battlecry.mid)
(Click to hear music)

"When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him." Isaiah 59:19

Words & Music: William F. Sherwin, Bright Jewels, 1869

Sound the battle cry! See, the foe is nigh;
Raise the standard high for the Lord;
Gird your armor on, stand firm every one;
Rest your cause upon His holy Word.

Refrain

Rouse, then, soldiers, rally round the banner,
Ready, steady, pass the word along;
Onward, forward, shout aloud Hosanna!
Christ is Captain of the mighty throng.

Strong to meet the foe, marching on we go,
While our cause we know, must prevail;
Shield and banner bright, gleaming in the light,
Battling for the right we ne'er can fail.

Refrain

O! Thou God of all, hear us when we call,
Help us one and all by Thy grace;
When the battle's done, and the vict'ry's won,
May we wear the crown before Thy face.

Refrain

Hello, and Happy Sunday!

I so much appreciate all the poems, the song, and words of appreciation for our Veterans.  I hold a deep honor and respect for them in my heart.  This morning at church, Pastor asked all who had served in the military to stand and be honored.  There were only three!  :o  Darrel and two Bobs--I was surprised there were so few.  But they received a rousing round of applause, and I thought that was good.

Carol, we have really enjoyed the escorted tours.  So much easier to leave the planning, logistics as to where to stay, where to eat, what to see to those who have knowledge of the area.  Grand Circle does a fantastic job.  This trip is with the other company they own, Overseas Adventure Travel, or OAT.  The OAT trips are more active, they tell you you must be in good physical condition and what to expect.  On this trip, they say we will be walking up to three hours a day.  That's why I've been walking, getting into shape for it!  Most of our SCUBA trips have been on our own, but these are the escorted tours.

Darrel and I had such a nice day yesterday.  We celebrated his mother's 95th birthday, and had an early Thanksgiving with all of his family, in Amarillo, Texas.  That was the first time since her 90th that all the family has been together.  The three siblings are all in their 70s now, and their only cousin and his wife came, too.  It was a very enjoyable day, and I did get them outdoors (it was in the 80s) for photos.

We were talking on the way home yesterday, and I asked Darrel why he supposed it is that many of our family, friends and acquaintances seem to have the very mistaken perception that we are "rich."  He said it is because we do go on the kind of trips we do; that many others spend their income on other things that we do not, and thus never have enough money for this kind of trip.  And that's fine; to each his own!  Everybody spends their money on what they want, right?  And I am of the opinion that if you want something badly enough, you will find a way to cut corners in spending and save up for it.  IMHO, of course!  ;)  We want to do this traveling while we are in good health and can enjoy it.

I am going to see the local high school musical performance of Oklahoma! at 4 PM.  That's one of my favorites, and the kids always do a terrific job.

Larry, I'm thinking of you today as you visit your grands and greats.  I'm so happy God is blessing your family this way!

PRAISE REPORT----PRAISE REPORT---PRAISE REPORT!!!

Darrel saw his Cardiologist Friday, and he says Darrel's heart is functioning at 97% of NORMAL!!!  I am overflowing with thankfulness!

We are still praying for our precious Audra.  Her open heart surgery is scheduled for the 19th.  They plan to actually slice away part of the heart, because the walls are so thickened.  (shudder. :'()

I know I haven't responded to everyone, but the list is long, and I don't want to make you read all day!

I just had this sent to me in an email..

"I Am A Soldier"
By Cindye Coates

I am a soldier in the army of my God.
The Lord Jesus Christ is my Commanding Officer.
The Holy Bible is my code of conduct.
Faith, Prayer, and the Word are my weapons of Warfare.

I have been taught by the Holy Spirit,
...trained by experience,
...tried by adversity,
...and tested by fire.

I am a volunteer in this army, and I am enlisted for eternity.
I will either retire in this Army or die in this Army;
But, I will not get out,
...sell out
...be talked out
...or pushed out.

I am faithful, reliable, capable, and dependable.
If my God needs, me, I am there.

I am a soldier.
I am not a baby. I do not need to be pampered,
...petted,
...primed up,
...pumped up,
...picked up,
...or pepped up.

I am a soldier. No one has to call me,
...remind me,
...write me,
...visit me,
...entice me,
...or lure me.

I am a soldier. I am not a wimp. I am in place,
...saluting my King,
...obeying His orders,
...praising His name,
...and building His Kingdom!

No one has to send me flowers, gifts, food, cards, candy, or give me
handouts.
I do not need to be
cuddled,
cradled,
cared for,
or catered to.

I am committed. I cannot have my feelings hurt bad enough to turn me
around.
I cannot be discouraged enough to turn me aside.
I cannot lose enough to cause me to quit.

When Jesus called me into this Army, I had nothing.
If I end up with nothing, I will still come out even.
I will win.

My God will supply all my needs.
I am more than a conqueror.
I will always triumph.
I can do all things through Christ.

Devils cannot defeat me.
People cannot disillusion me.
Weather cannot weary me.
Sickness cannot stop me.
Battles cannot beat me.
Money cannot buy me.
Governments cannot silence me, and
Hell cannot handle me!

I am a soldier.
Even death cannot destroy me.
For when my Commander calls me from this battlefield,
He will promote me to a captain.

I am a soldier, in the Army, I'm marching, claiming victory.
I will not give up.
I will not turn around.
I am a soldier, marching, Heaven bound.
Here I stand! Will you stand with me?

Thank you  Colin, Keith and Jeannine for the wonderful poems to remember our military. Thanks to Pat for posting the video and two more poems.

Hi Janet as you run through on  your way to Peru!!

Was CP down this morning? I couldn't get on from 6AM until I left for church at 9AM Pacific Daylight time.

Beautiful sunshine today, a little on the cold side but beautiful. It was a wonderful worship service last night at AFB (Arcata First Baptist.) Pastor David prayed  for me and gave me a scripture that  is so right on for me.

My friend Eleanor and I both danced with our Glory rings, there was a man there  who used a flag in worship and a young woman who used two flags. It was so beautiful to be so free to worship in spirit and in truth I felt set free of any and all chains that had held me in bondage to a religious spirit. I could be myself. It was so awesome.

I know some  (most) of you do not believe  in dancing before the Lord, I come here to share with you (my brothers and sisters) the wonders of my love for my Lord, my freedom from my past, and what it is like for me to be so much in love with Jesus that I will dance for Him (my husband). So instead of any negative thoughts I would just like you to understand the AWE that I have for my Savior.

Colin and Keith:  You two are so much alike.  Now, give each other a hug.... Lovely poetry.

Jeannine:  I don't know how you ever find the time - blessings to you.

Pat:  I did really enjoy the tribute to our heroes.  They should be remembered a lot more than one day per year.

Marilyn:  I remember the very first time I saw dancing in our church - the wife of the assistant pastor was a ballet dancer & she set up a soft song, we were all heads bowed and I felt a swish go by me & was so astonished - it was such a lovely interpretation and gift - of course, some people disliked any change.  This didn't happen very often, so it was a real treat.  I always envied the grace and admire someone who feels this way of expressing their feelings.

Home all day & I didn't cough too often.  There is one good thing and that is I finished making six pillowcases for gifts.  Don is better but still exhausted.  He did sleep better last night.

Janet:  Thanks for the info.  We have always liked to travel the other road and so many spur of the moments in our travel so that will be hard to change.  Yes, I have always made the trips to parents when they were in Washington and so forth and trips out there and it just galled me to no end that everyone acted like we were so wealthy to drive out there with kids in tow and in turn, they never come here because "it is so expensive and so far away".  But they have inherited so much property and money & so stingy while we worked and saved like crazy for our family.  It is funny what a skewed picture people can get of others.  Have a super trip - you guys really deserve to get away.

Pat:  I like your new picture too = you are standing in the light.

Carol

Hi, all.

Pat, I like your new picture too.  You look younger. :)   Not that you ever looked OLD old,  but this picture is really nice.  And younger. LOL

Marilyn,  to me, dancing before the Lord, is as anything in worship.  If we do it for Him, and out of a heart so overflowing that we must dance, or we must sing, or we must overflow in tears, then it's always beautiful.   The Presence of the Holy Spirit should always move us to something....whether a passionate respone, or an silent brokeness.   I'm sure your dancing is from a heart that adores the Master. That's all that matters.

We should all be so overflowing with such passion that we eagerly and hungrily look for ways to express to our Jesus how much we love Him.  We might not do it right, but He looks at the heart of the worshiper. :)  Thank God for His heart toward us which is filled with passion for His bride. Glory!

Company just came in.  Gotta run.  Nita

Yes Carol....Keith and I are going to bury the hatchet.....in each other! I am wondering how the impression got out that we are at loggerheads.  I think Keith is an excellent poet....not my style of poetry but something I feel like trying now since I have read his. Glad you like the poetry.

Marilyn.... my church absolutely frowns on dancing. Even its moderator is on record as saying line dancing is of the devil. I am not a dancer or was I ever inclined to go to dances but since being in the company of good friends who are reallly good dancers and know all the steps...I have formed the opinion that there is a world of difference between the way they dance and some couple pawing and groping and swaying on a dance floor.I think Irish and Scottish dancing is brilliant. Who can say that is wrong when they are using God given skill to perform it. I think Nitas has the right idea. I have seen people who preach against this and that and then commit something worse themselves. Thank God we will only have to answer to Him on judgement day. When you sit in a corner nice and quiet one can hear and see things!

Hi everyone else! <3

Pat ~ I kid you not....the video thingy wasn't there yesterday when I said it wasn't there.  I went back to page 6 just now and there it was.

Janet ~ I know how others feel about you traveling so much.  My husband and I took at least two weeks vacation a year.  We never wanted to be asked, what did you do on vacation and answer, we painted the house!.  Lots of memories in all those vacations.  You can't take a vacation on two weeks notice.  You have to save year round.  Or at least, we did.

As for dancing or anything else we do for God.  God knows in our heart why are are doing what we do.  Two women can have on the same dress.  One is vulgar, the other is not.  It all depends what is in the heart!  We have dancing sometimes in our church.  Most lyrical ballet.  Beautiful!  And when accompanied with a sign interpretation, it is really awesome.  So moving.

My friend, Betty, who goes to Beef and Boards with us, lost her son to God yesterday.  So sad to bury a son or daughter.

Today I am going with Ivalou for her to get a blood test and for me to pick up a prescription.  Then we are going somewhere for her to get the paper items for Thanksgiving.

Then tonight is Kilbuck Photography Guild.  That is always wonderful in we get to see such awesome photos by the members.

Gotta run!

Good morning, I am having a bit of a back problem this morning but I managed to get through my Curves workout anyway just skipped one machine. I will be working for  my little 2 hour job this morning cleaning house for a nice Methodist lady. We do take some time out to talk about Jesus. Her husband has COPD and his kidneys don't work properly either. We work together on the house.

I see I am not the only one who has dancing in their church. My pastor lets me dance as long as I stay in the back of the church, he just doesn't want me to use any props. Yesterday I pulled my scarf off and waved it a couple of times and he (standing in the back) didn't like it and made me stop using the scarf. We have had dancers in the front from time to time. The youth and once a visiting Evangelist's wife.

One of our elderly brothers is in the hospital with pneumonia, please pray for Brother Roy Bay. Willa and I will go visit hm today.

Have a safe trip Janet, Will be praying for your safe return.

Hi everyone.  I tried to read messages here yesterday before leaving for Augusta but couldn't get the page to load.

We had a most marvelous and blessed day yesterday with all of my immediate family together the first time in 25 years.  I honestly didn't think I would live long enough to see the day but God is so good and has so richly blessed us with the reconciliation between my son and his daughter and between my son and daughter.

It was great to see our granddaughter after more than 3 years and then to see those beautiful great grandchildren was beyond my ability to describe.  They are so cute and sweet and while a little hesitant to warm up to us by later in the afternoon that was broken down.  It brought such joy to be heart to see all three of the little ones sitting on my son's lap and hugging and kissing him.  He has spent a lot of time with them since they relocated to where they are about 10 minutes away.

We will go back over on Thanksgiving to share the day with them.  It was a long drive over and a much longer one back as we had to take our daughter back to her apartment in downtown Atlanta.  I think on Thanksgiving we will have her spend the night when we come back from Augusta and I will take her to work on Friday as they will cut about 2 hours out of the driving during one day.  I was really exhausted when Pat and I got home.

There are so many postings that I am not going to try to comment on very many.  I did enjoy the poetry and other comments related to Veteran's Day.  On Saturday at lunch time in the cafe where we ate lunch two ladies had a table setup by the door selling the poppies.  It had been a long time since I had seen this or had the opportunity to support the poppy sale.

Marilyn, in our church we have some young ladies who often do a dance during the offering on the Sundays our youth pastor preaches.  I see nothing wrong with the dance although I was a bit shocked the first time I saw it as it was not a part of my religious upbringing or experience before going to this church.  Being a Presbyterian we are often called the "frozen chosen" and our services are usually very sedate (guess that is the right word).

Our church webmaster has been called back into the Army so I have resumed that responsibility and have a lot of work planned on the website that is going to take quite a bit of time.  I will tackle it slowly but think it is time it is totally redone.  Guess I had better get busy as the day is quickly passing.

Marilyn, I feel that if you are praising God with all your heart and spirit, who is to say its wrong?  Keep at it!  Although the response from your pastor surprises me.  (From what you have said about your church anyway) I just wish I had that in me to do!  I so desire to praise the Lord more than I do, but I don't know what to do.  Does that make any sense?  Our preacher sings a song called Wading thru deep water.  He sang it last night.  And he gets excited while singing and starts marching (wading) around the church.  He asked me 3 times if I wanted to go wading!  On the third time, I fell in behind him!  We had a great time in the Lord last night!  Just marching around the church.  Others marched also, but at the end of the altar call, one man was saved!  And isn't that what its all about?  Praising the Lord and seeing souls saved.

My but I've rambled a bit!

Larry, so glad your family reunion, so to speak! was great!

Janet have a great time on your trip.

Everyone else, have a blessed day today!

Gotta go, have a toothache that needs medicine.

Later,
Samantha

Rats!  I don't know which key I hit, but just lost my whole post.  I don't want to type the whole thing again, so my input about the dancing in praise will go by the wayside.  :(

Larry, your report of your family get together just makes my heart sing!! God is SO good---ALL the time!

Thanks for all the good wishes on our trip.  We are sort of wandering around the house, trying to think of all the things that need doing before we leave.  And the refrigerator is mostly empty, so meals today are really strange!  ;)

Etta Sue, how right you are!  What fond memories will people have of working on the house or yard instead of going somewhere with their family and having a good time?  I wish we could have made more trips while the kids were still at home, but I had a different spouse in those days, who had different values.  :(

See you all later!
