Papa John

Thanks to everyone for your welcome.  It is good to read the posts here again.

We have been having a drought here in Tennessee with no or very little rain most of the summer.  Crops have dried up and there isn't enough hay to feed the cattle so farmers are suffering.  We went 15 days when the temp was over 100.  Looks like we may have rain today and the high is predicted at 89.  It won't be long until we have more rain and cooler weather.

I do appreciate the good welcome and hopefully I will continue to drop in each day
.
      The length of our days is seventy years—
      or eighty, if we have the strength;
       yet their span  is but trouble and sorrow,
       for they quickly pass, and we fly away.  Psa. 90:10

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ETTA SUE!

Janet

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ETTA SUE!!!And many more--yep 30+ sounds about right!

I had a good day today painting.  I bought a new wrist support yesterday, it has memory foam padding, and it's much more comfortable than the other one.  The doc and the therapist told me I can use whatever makes it feel better---anyway, I wore it all day and was able to paint with it on.  I took it off on the way home, and within 5 minutes I had pain again.

Abby painted a shirt, too, with butterflies, and did a good job.  They enjoyed having her.

Papa John, good to see you again today!

Pat, good to have you back, too!

See you later!

Etta Sue

Thank you Jane, Pat, Colin, Sarah and Janet for the great birthday wishes.  Like Kitty says...you are only 6-5 once!

We had a great lunch today and I was surprised with Aaron going with us to eat.  Very good steak!!

I usually don't stop in in the evening but I was nodding off while watching TV and I can't do that or I won't sleep tonight.  Hard enough sleeping on Saturday night without a nap.

Again, thank you all!

Al Moak

Good to hear about the wrist support, Janet.  I pray our Father will continue to bless.

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  I am ready for church and have to be in the choir room about 10 this morning as we are having a combined service that starts 45 minutes earilier than our regular traditional service.  It is followed by a catered bar-b-que lunch.  We bought our tickets last week so I will be able to pick up two lunches to bring home as Pat isn't able to ride in the car yet as is still having a great deal of pain.  This solves the problem of what we will have for lunch today.

Pat is still spending most of her time in a reclining position as she can find a comfortable spot where her back isn't hurting.  It is painful for her to get up or down and the first few steps.  She did get up and down quite a few times yesterday and I know she is getting very tired of having to stay in the house.

Etta Sue, sorry I missed your birthday but here is a belated "Good Wishes".  It sounds like everyone was being sure you didn't go hungry.

Janet, glad you were able to paint.  I think I would be inclined to leave that glove on if it stopped the pain.  I am sure a day of painting was very helpful to you in terms of overall feeling.

JudyB, it was encouraging to read you had slept two nights in a row but then saw you posting during the early morning indicating the pain was back.  Hope it feels better today.

Pat, we are glad to have you back with us.

A special hi to everyone else who has posted and will post today.

Good Morning. Yesterday I went to a church picnic with my Will's family. Willa goes to my church but some  members of her family go to Calvary Chapel in Arcata. We went o Camp Bauer up by Korbel on the Mad River. There was also a baptism in the river of some of the young people.

When we got back here about 2 PM. I took the dogs for their walks and visited with my neighbor for a short while.

Last evening I called Fay to see how she was doing with the new caregiver and also called the man I had visited at the hospital who is home now.

Larry I do hope at will be feeling better soon.

Etta Sue I don't think I could handle going out to eat as often as you do. All that restaurant food just wouldn't set well with my way of eating nutritiously.  Unless the would serve me a whole plate full of veggies with no meat or very little meat.

That is why I like Chan's in Arcata he will not  put the MSG in if you ask him not to. Plus I can order just veggies and noodles with a little chicken mixed in. One plate serves both Fay and I. Or I would have a Taco Salad with chicken at a Mexican resaurant. I don't eat out  very often. I did eat a Polish sausage in a bun yesterday salad and fruit salad.

Talk later

Happy (belated) Social Security Day, Etta Sue.  Now you can really live, with all those big SS payments.  Don't forget to let 'em know.

Etta Sue

I am thinking that a grilled steak, baked sweet potato and salad with lite dressing is a whole lot better than what I would have at home.  I did order the Onion Petals but shared them with all five of us.  I tend to snack and grab anything when I am home.  Not fun cooking for myself.  I fix mostly casseroles at home and freeze the leftovers in serving sizes.  Works for me.

And I have been getting SS ever since I turned 60.  It is Spousal's Survivor SS or something like that.  When your spouse passes away and you are still single at the age of 60, you can draw your spouses SS.  I did use my Medicare card last Tuesday since it was effective the first of September.  Also when I reach 65 and 10 months, I am going to draw my own SS.  Now I am still looking for a Drug supplement plan.  Hopefully will have one by the end of October.

I didn't go to church this morning.  I had a rough night last night and not much sleep.  I so wanted to hear about the teen boys and their rescuing the man in Kentucky but I missed it.   :'( :'(

Rainy and dreary out today.  No mowing grass today!

Janet

Hi, everybody.  I am so sleepy I can barely keep my eyes open!  I hope Abby will let me read to her for a little while, and then both of us take a nap.  But she has her heart set on going swimming, so we will see.  Her parents will be home tonight.

Sermon this morning was on unity in the church.

I wish all of you a pleasant afternoon and evening.

Etta Sue I did read the story of your Teen Group--What a great bunch of kids, and leaders, too.  God bless them.

It was Rally Sunday and the kids had a petting zoo and tramboline in a net so they were excited.  Really big for this church to spend the money on this.  A good sermon and wonderful music - the Praise Band - and we have lively music these 2nd. Sundays of the month especially.  We went out for breakfast with friends afterwards and I had a pumpkin waffle with pecans.  Then, watched the Broncos win with a last second field goal - there were no time-outs left & they had to really scramble to get the football off.  It was just great timing.

Welcome Home Papa John!
  You are not getting older just getting better.

Etta Sue:  Happy Birthday to you!

Larry: LOL on cleaning for friends - I have been going over everything because on the 20th. we leave for our trip and the other couple arrives here.  Had to show the house & its little quirks to my neighbor.  They are a "regular" couple as Don would say.  Really fun to talk with - this neighborhood has a lot of old people (really, our age) and some are so downright crabby that we stay clear of them - just greet them and take off.  It isn't the most friendly neighborhood I have ever  lived in but we just work around it - have our friends from other places.  This airline regulations on what you can carry on is really difficult and weight restrictions - it isn't easy to get out & on the plane anymore.  Sorry about Pat and I hope that she finds some relief very soon.  Our worst news is that the couple in Cambridge had their computer fixed & now isn't working again and we really did not want to haul a laptop with us as we have a week before we even get to their place - but kinda need it for getting train station info and so many things.  It is a real concern whether or not to be without computer.

Janet; Sounds like the new soft brace is right for you.  Stick with it!

It is coolish today and I had to turn the heat on although Don thought 65 degrees in the house was just perfect - that Minnesota guy!  Look at what I have to put up with   ::)

We had a wonderful service this morning.  Cornelia stayed for a ladies luncheon and some friends brought her home afterwards.  Martha and I took advantage of the situation and got some Chinese at Publix and came home and enjoyed it.  Cornelia's doctor has said no Chinese food for her because of its sodium.

Marilyn, that was a beautiful clip which almost brought tears to my eyes when Wently Phipps sang Amazing Grace. Thanks for sharing.

Etta Sue, Happy belated birthday.

Cornelia and I continue to read the Bible through out loud.  Last night we finished with Jeremiah.  I particularly liked his description of an idol"

Jeremiah 10:3-5
3 For the customs of the peoples are worthless;
       they cut a tree out of the forest,
       and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel.
4 They adorn it with silver and gold;
       they fasten it with hammer and nails
       so it will not totter.
5 Like a scarecrow in a melon patch,
       their idols cannot speak;
       they must be carried
       because they cannot walk.
       Do not fear them;
       they can do no harm
       nor can they do any good.
