Morning Devotional...

Psalm 19:14.  "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer."

This psalm tells us about a glorious God Who is revealed in and through  His Creation.  It goes on to remind us of how true and wonderful the words of such a God must be.  Then, finally, it moves us to the only right response we could have to such a God - a response of prayer for personal holiness.

The psalm states what should be obvious: the God Who is revealed by nature is absolutely magnificent.  In fact, He's such an entirely wonderful God that we should be moved by the glory around us to cry from the heart to be made more pleasing in His sight.

How about you?  Does the wonderful Creation around you awaken you to it's Creator?  Does it move you to His Word?  And does that in turn result in a cry from your heart to be more pleasing to Him?  Oh pray for opened eyes to see the great wonders all around you, and pray for a responsive heart!

"Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful songs." Psalm 100:1-2

Words: From Fourscore and Seven Psalms of David (Geneva, Switzerland: 1561); attributed to William Kethe.

Music: "Old 100th," attributed to Louis Bourgeois, in Four Score and Seven Psalms of David (Geneva, Switzerland: 1551)

All people that on earth do dwell,
Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice.
Him serve with mirth, His praise forth tell;
Come ye before Him and rejoice.

The Lord, ye know, is God indeed;
Without our aid He did us make;
We are His folk, He doth us feed,
And for His sheep He doth us take.

O enter then His gates with praise;
Approach with joy His courts unto;
Praise, laud, and bless His Name always,
For it is seemly so to do.

For why? the Lord our God is good;
His mercy is forever sure;
His truth at all times firmly stood,
And shall from age to age endure.

To Father, Son and Holy Ghost,
The God Whom heaven and earth adore,
From men and from the angel host
Be praise and glory evermore.

Nice to see you in here so early, Colin, though I guess it isn't early to you there.  Of what does a good Irish breakfast consist?

Still morning here on Labor Day in the U S of A.  Holiday!  But when you are retired, every day is a Holiday!!

Not anything planned for today.  I think Kaye Don and Barb are still in Michigan visiting one of their daughter's and her family.  Ivalou is going to her son's this evening for a pitch-in/cookout.  ( I did hear on the radio that 'pitch-in' is a Hoosier thing!  Most everywhere else say 'pot luck'!) Tony and Charlene are in Michigan visiting with one of the twins and her husband.  The other twin and grandson went with them.  Tony has called me twice since Saturday evening.  So I am thinking a good book will fit the bill for me this afternoon and perhaps evening...depending on how good the book is.

Now, Janet, you hit the nail on the head.  Ivalou and I usually mow our grass the same day.  I may start mowing and then I see her garage door open and she starts mowing.  Or I hear her mowing and I go out and start mowing.  And it is true  :D When we get close together, we do wave to each other...but not each time...just once.  It really looks nice when all our yards are mowed the same day.  I noticed this morning that Kaye Don's yard looks mighty tacky!  Hope he gets home early enough to mow his.   :-\  Must keep up with the Jones'!!

Happy Labor day to you all!  I don't plan to do any labor today, though.  ;)  I helped Abby with her "paper person" they are to do with their families yesterday.  They each got a sheet of heavy paper with a figure drawn on it, and they, with their families, were to put on the features, dress them, etc.  They will put them up for their open house at school next week.  She had really good ideas, and we discovered a new use for scrapbooking materials.  It turned out really cute, too.

I think I over-used my poor arm again.  :(  It hurt really badly last night, kept me awake until after 2 AM, and is still touchy and painful today.  Another reason I don't plan to do much.  I thought it would be all back to normal by now.  Guess I was way too optimistic.  :-\

Abby wants to go swimming this afternoon, then I will be taking her home.  It's been so nice having her here for a few days.

Our dog Cookie had one puppy yesterday, one last night, and one so far this morning, but it is dead.  She looked like she could have eight!

I guess it is time to get dressed.  I've really been lethargic this morning.  See you later!

Hi everyone.  I have had a busy morning.  I went to coffee a the cafe and unfortunately there just wasn't much business at the cafe this morning.  Sure they won't open on a holiday again.  Then I went to Wal-Mart and did some shopping, including getting anew watch.  It was really expensive, all of $5.87 plus tax and it is nice looking.  My current watch has become unreliable and it costs almost as much for a new battery as an entire new watch and the band needed to be replaced as well.  Fortunately I was able to get an electric cart to get around Wal-Mart as I just don't have the energy to walk that store anymore.

Our housekeeper has been ill for several weeks and so Pat has been doing the housekeeping, which just about does her in.  I tried to help her by dusting some this morning but that was almost too much for me.  If our housekeeper doesn't come back very soon we are going to have to find someone else.

This evening we are meeting two other couples for dinner at O'Charley's and then going to one of their homes and expect we will play a domino game so all six can play.  I am sure it won't be a late evening but should be very enjoyable.

Al, thanks for the fine devotional today.

Janet, it sound like you had a great day yesterday but that you certainly overdid.  Please take care of yourself and it is ok to be lethargic and rest.

Etta Sue, enjoy your quiet day reading your book.

Colin, I can't imagine have rain everyday for months on end.  I guess that is why things stay nice and green over  your way.  Hope you had an enjoyable breakfast.  To me a garden is quite different from a yard and where the cars are parked is called the driveway.  Interesting how we use the same terms to mean different things in different countries.

Liz, certainly understand your saddness for Amanda.  Hopefully she will decide to continue her education.  I can't imagine what type of professor she would have had that discouraged her so.

Hi Jeannine  and all who stop by today.

Well Colin I guess to you I have gopher holes in my garden. although it certainly is not much of a garden by USA standards.

I have taken to dogs for their walks this morning and washed the cover and blanket off their dog bed, I also washed my dress pants all 5 pr of them.

In just a little while I am going to lunch at the Chalet here in Mcville with a friend, (Ha! at first I typed fiend, had to correct that.)

Larry are you sure that watch wait too expensive? I don't want you to break your bank account just kidding)

Janet I think you need to stop doing so much and just let that arm heal. Forget about the cleaning etc. Does driving effect your arm too?

From the sounds of the posts, mine is not the only body that is showing signs of wear!  It is only a matter of time until I will have to have help with my housework.  Wendy has finally found someone to come and help her every other week and is happy after a couple of bad tries with others.  This one is a nice Christian lady who is only doing it for exercise and loves nice things.  So they are on the same track.

Is anyone familiar with the paintings and novels of Thomas Kinkade.  He is one of the wonderful Christian authors and artists from the States.  Writes the really nice Cape Light Novels....they sort of continue from book to book. You can see his art at:  www.thomaskinkade.com if interested.  I think most of you would like his books, they have a Christian theme and really pleasant.

Good luck with the gophers, Marilyn. ::)

Pleasant Day/Evening and God Bless.

Liz

Hi...was in here early for me and now it is late! A good breakfast would be an Ulster fry but I settled for scrambled egg and grilled bacon cooked by myself. Marilyn I am sorry about the gopher holes...glad we dont have any here or moles either. Yes and it did rain here today again but we had a lovely evening with sunshine. Guess I will hit the hay now so goodnight to you all. God bless

I am out of a job again. The woman's daughter called today to tell me that they had not been reimbursed for my wages and without that they couldn't afford to keep me on.  I am not worried about it, God is in control and I will soon have another job. Please keep me in prayer.

Good night, Colin.  Sweet dreams!

Marilyn, maybe you need a really BIG cat!  ;)

Liz, I know how sad and disappointed you must be.  I do pray Amanda will accept the Lord, seek His direction for her life, and maybe find another place to study art.  She is certainly a talented girl.

Thomas Kincaid's work is EVERYWHERE!! On every imaginable surface....I think it is beautiful, but have gotten a little tired of it, as each piece is so much like all the others.  I did see a really different one a while back, though.  It was of Jewish men and boys at the Wailing Wall.  Stark, dark, and SO different from all his cottages with every window lighted up.  I have read one or two of his novels, too, and enjoyed them.

Larry, I took your suggestion and signed up for the housekeeper to come once every two weeks.  It's only for two hours, but should help a lot with the vacuuming, etc, anyway.  Hope your lady gets well and comes back soon.  Good help is so hard to find!

We took Abby to meet her Mom a while ago.  On Thursday I will go stay with her for two days while her parents are away at a business function.  We both enjoy that.

My hand and wrist are still very painful and swollen.  I hope therapy tomorrow helps; if not, I will call my doctor and ask her advice.

Cookie will not win Mother of the Year.  She has only one puppy left, think she stepped on the others, and she's so heavy on her tiny feet.  Poor puppies.  I hope she manages to keep the one alive.

See you tomorrow.

Sorry about your job, Marilyn.  But it must mean God has something better out there for you.

I must have really needed rest today - I won't even say how late it was when I finally got up. Oh, well, it certainly was nice not to need to go anywhere or do anything.

So, I ended up doing a bit of cleaning, a bit of cooking, and a lotta resting. :)

Marilyn, so sorry about your job. We'll need to renew our prayers for you.

Larry, were it not for the carts, I couldn't shop any more. That's sometimes a rest for a weary mind, to just drive ever so slowly through the market, browsing at what's available and whether the budget would okay an impulse purchase. In most instances of course, the budget says "NO" quite loudly.

Al, thank you for that devotional. My hubby's most favorite verse - the one that he lived his life by - was the very one you covered in the devotional. You brought back some tender memories.

Janet, please take care of your arm.

Y'all have a good evening.

I was only being pleasant in saying good morning...it was morning for me and a greeting to those who would read it when they deemed it was their morning. I do realise there is a time difference.
Hi Jeannine....take care and know I am always thinking about and praying for you and Michael. God bless.
As all the corners are getting crowded I will fade into the Irish mist and maybe never appear again.

Hi everyone.  I have a few minutes before needing to leave this morning so will see if I can get a post written.  We had a very nice evening last night.  We had a good meal and we were able to use a gift card I had to pay for most of it (which was nice).  Then we went to these friend's home and played a domino game called "Mexican Train".  Another couple joined us for the game but had had to go to a death family visitation and didn't make it to eat with us.  The evening was capped off by banana splits (just what we all needed after 9 pm) and they were good.

Not much on the schedule today other than a meeting this morning.  It is suppose to be in the 90s again today after several cooler days.

Colin, hope the fog lifts so we can see you back here.  :)

Jeannine, I continue to pray for you and Michael.

Jane, you sure were up posting late.  You must be a night person rather than a morning person like I am.

Ruth Ann, glad you were able to have a restful day.

Janet, sorry to read that you have lost a couple of the puppies and hope the one survives.  Maybe your couple of days with Abby will give you time to just rest your arm.  I think you will enjoy having the housekeeper.  I remember when we first went to stay with my folks Mother had a lady come to learn but was very concerned that she not be there for longer than an hour.  My mother usually sat in her chair most of the time but I missed her and went to the kitchen and found her sweeping the floor.  I said  "Mother, why are you sweeping" and she said she was concerned that she might have to pay for a second hour of cleaning.  It was costing a whole $6 per hour and my folks could will afford the cost for her to be there the entire day if necessary.  Needless to say the lady soon started cleaning the entire house and was there for more than one hour at a time.  I still chuckle over this.

Marilyn, sorry about your job but you certainly have the right attitude and God has something else in mind for you.

Liz, we are very familiar with Thomas Kincade.  I like  his work and there was a gallery selling his work at our local shopping center.  Don't know if it is still open as don't go to the shopping center anymore.  Like Janet, his work does begin to wear on you in its sameness but still beautiful.

Time to go to coffee.  Hope everyone has a great day.

I wanted to share the following and forgot to put it in my message above.

THE U IN JESUS

Before  U were thought of or time had begun,
God stuck U in  the name of His Son.

And  each time U pray, you'll see it's true,
You can't  spell out JesUs and not include U.

You're  a pretty big part of His wonderful name,
For U, He  was born; that's why He came.

And  His great love for U is the reason He died.
It even  takes U to spell crUcified.

Isn't  it thrilling and splendidly grand
He rose from the  dead, with U in His plan?

The  stones split away, the gold trUmpet blew,
and this  word resUrrection is spelled with a U.

When  JesUs left earth at His upward ascension,
He felt  there was one thing He just had to mention

"Go  into the world and tell them it's true
That I love  them all - Just like I love U."

So  many great people are spelled with a U,
Don't they  have a right to know JesUs too?

It all  depends now on what U will do,
He'd like them to  know,
But it all starts with U.

Good Morning, When I picked Willa up this morning for Curves she brought me a big brown bag of different kinds of squash and a some purple snap beans. So now I am waiting for the water to come to a boil to blanche the beans so i can freeze them. I will do the squash later when I figure out what I am going to do with it. Later I am going to Costco and Petco, put gas in my car and stop at the Chiropractor's if he is open. I also need to make a couple of phone calls.

I have always loved the Thomas Kincade paintings and cards.  Never could afford to buy them though.

Hi Samantha How is Terry?

Thanks Larry for sharing that poem.

As I looked to the northeast this morning, the sky was clear as glass.  So I expect Colin to be in here soon!  No mist his way!

Well, I did a stupid thing!  I called Ivalou to see if she would like to go with me for my doctor appointment this morning at 10am to see if any signs of new growth is on my larnyx.  We got to the doctor's office and I signed in.  The receptionist asked me my name.  Then said, 'Your appointment isn't until 2:15 this afternoon.  The doctor is in surgery this morning and not here in the office.  Can you come back this afternoon?'  So Ivalou and I ate breakfast at Bob Evans and then came home.  Now I have to go back this afternoon.  And sure enough I have 2:15pm on my calender right in front of me AND in my electronic date keeper!!  Dumb!   :idiot:  :clobber:  :uglystupid: At least I wasn't late!! ::)

Colin:  Don't fade away - and quit standing in the corner.  Walk right in here and tell us what is happening your way.   :D

Larry:  I just could not eat a banana split anymore, things have changed so I can't eat the dairy products.  Maybe you need to find another house cleaner in the meantime before your regular one can make it back.

Marilyn:  You are so right - you will meet someone new for caregiving and I hope soon.  I know someone who steams the squash and freezes portions.  I like squash.  My children did as well - until they rode the school bus and heard all the things others didn't like. ^-^

Have a mini-meeting at my house.  This is a gal from a university group (and Betty is American Baptist) but we belong to a this secular group & I am tapped to rewrite the bylaws.  Betty will help as she has info stored on her computer & I will be so happy to get rid of this job once and for all.

The hurricane hitting Nicaragua - our church had a group go and work there this early summer and I refused to go because of the heat and humidity problem, not to even mention that everyone was really really sick when they got on the plane to come home last year.  Now, I feel so sorry for everyone.  It has to be just a horrible experience when you are so poor and lack the basic things, then of all things, a hurricane comes right towards you.  Praying for the souls.

STARS AND STRIPES

I will go beyond the stars because of His stripes
Far beyond the distance that the eagle can fly on high
For Heaven it is waiting; the place of eternal glory
Washed in the blood of the Lamb who for me did die

He came beyond the stars to take all my stripes
There is healing in each one that tore His flesh away
He was wounded for my transgressions and died an awful death
Upon a cruel cross; and for my sins He did pay

He arose above the stars; back scarred with the stripes
Nail prints in hands and feet; and wound that ran down His side
Triumphant over death and grave; victorious in His rising
And in the covering of His blood my sins He will hide

Some day I will see the face of the One who bore the thorns
Grasp the hands of Jesus and feel the nail print scars
Bow to thank the King who reigns in all His glory
For His healing stripes that brought me home beyond the stars

Colin Moffett

Actually we had heavy drizzle all day which is as bad as an Irish mist! I wrote the above poem for all my American friends who helped me set up my poetrypoem site and extend it to all here who come from the great U.S.A. I realise there are people here from Canada..Australia etc. and I also consider you friends. Sorry Jane if I seemed abrubt. With the best will in the world...rain day in day out would get most people depressed and a little bad tempered! Our summer has slipped away or washed away and now we have just more miserable days of winter to look forward to.  :'(
I know Jeannine wont mind me telling you we have finished our dvd of gospel poems and scenery and it looks very well. Jeannine can play it on her dvd player but others in America find it wont play on their machines. We are a little perplexed by this. We know about the different playback systems but thought we had over come that problem. Proceeds from this dvd are  going to Make-A -Wish International.

Love ya all...God bless.

Well - - - where is everybody?  Out here on the left coast it's 6:45 AM, so that means it's 9:45 AM over there on the right-hand coast.  That's almost lunchtime.  Come on!!

By the way, does a strained foot count as a prayable malady?  I've got one, and I'd like prayer that it'd get better.

My appointment went fine.  I was there on time and like always, waited for the doctor.  He sprays something in your nostrils to numb your throat and passageway to the throat.  This time he sprayed two different things.  Then we went into another room and he left me.  I started getting numb and it felt like my throat was closing up.  I coughed and coughed.  I got scared.  Then I thought...why am I getting scared.  He wouldn't do anything to prevent me from breathing.  So then I relaxed and was fine.  The procedure is called flexible laryngoscopy.  I asked the nurse.  ;)  The doctor said everything looked fine and asked me my age.  I said almost 65.  He said really?  Well, your voice box looks extremely good for your age.  I told him I didn't have anyone to scream or yell too!  He laughed!  So I go back in 6 weeks for another flexible laryngoscopy!!

Today Kitty is taking, well, I am driving, me to Eagle's Nest Restaurant in downtown Indy.  It is a revolving restaurant atop the Hyatt Regency.  Never been to either so this will be an experience for me.  This will be my present from her for my 65th birthday!  But they are having an all city celebration for the first Colts game downtown tomorrow and I heard that the circle is closed today for a Kelly Clarkson concert tomorrow.  And that was how I was going downtown.  I have everything on my GPS.  We will get there...just not sure how!  I would rather drive anywhere in the U S than downtown Indy!!!!!!!!!!

There are two place3s that I would rather avoid driving. 1 is anywhere in the Los Angeles and surrounding area. The other is in the San Francisco and Oakland area if I have to get off the freeway. Even the freeways are bad.

Hooray I get to go to Tai Chi this morning. I have sure missed going and missed my friends there. I am also going to do my recycling today.

I am going to do some computer work for a friend in setting up her email  into groups so all she has to do is type in one name and it goes to all in that group of people.

Glad to hear that all is well in your larynx Etta Sue.

Talk to you later

I just can't stay away from here,  ;)

Today I am going to eat lunch with my Youth Friend at school.  Diana is in 4th grade, same as Abby.  Haven't seen her since school got out, so will be nice to see her again!

Later!

Colin:  Wishing that I could send you sunshine.  We have more sunshine than Florida.  Yes, true and we have had a good ten-degree hotter summertime this year.

Etta Sue:  We lived in a Dallas suburb for nine years & it was so dangerous to drive through Dallas and Houston traffic - how about dodging a mattress falling from a car in front?  How about one son having a rifle pointed at him on the freeway?  How about the time I saw five dead people on the road when I was coming home from the airport and another time a long wooden plank  broke my window as I was driving a friend to same airport.  We haven't lived there for 17 years and I really could not do that again.  You just reminded me of those insane highways. Glad that your appointment went well.

Marilyn:  Yes, they are huge cities.  I think our big cities are overflowing & we should stop the influx of people.  Too late.  Phoenix is another terrible place to drive.

Janet:  Your lunch date sounds like fun.  Next week, we will go to grandparent's day for one grandson.  Last year, he introduced us as Grandpa and Carol - I didn't want to embarrass him so didn't say a word.  He is the one that has been named the Conflict Mediator.  He meets with the two who are having any squabble and has them talk things out and suggests options - I don't know if they voted him for this or he was named by the teacher or principal for this job.

Anyway, I am waiting & waiting for eye doctor's and regular doctor's offices to call me.  They are both two days overdue.

Carol

Yes,Carol, lots to be said for living "out in the sticks" like we do.  And I hope this area does NOT become heavily populated.  ^-^

Al, anything that gives pain is deserving of prayer.  I will pray for your foot, and you can pray for my arm.

And yes, I am stopping now.  :-[

I'm dealing with an extremely sad situation. Last year, my sister in law called saying she'd had colon cancer surgery and her special needs son was in the hospital & they couldn't get him to stand up.

She specifically asked me NOT to call because of the difficulties she was having moving around. She also asked me not to come by the house for the same reason.

I've been very concerned and have prayed earnestly for her.

Well, she called today with the really distressing news that her son had passed away on Monday resulting from a malignant brain tumor. She had been a real hermit, not taking him to church or other places, although he was sweet and docile.

I told her I'd like to come by to spend some time with her, and she asked for a couple of weeks "to get my land legs back again" before she's willing to see me.

And, even more distressing, she's had his body cremated, and there will be no visitation and no funeral. Nothing.

She had not even spoken with her older brothers to let them know of her loss.

So, please pray for MaryBelle. She's not computer literate, and won't know that you're praying for her, but I believe the Holy Spirit can draw especially close and comfort this deeply grieving mother tonight.

She said, he was my baby for 40 years. I hope I go next, for I can't stand the thoughts of losing anyone else.

She's a widow, and has lost both parents, her husband, her only child, and her brother (my husband). Please do remember her in your prayers.

Ruth Ann

How sad, Ruth Ann.  :'(  Yes, I am praying for everyone concerned and especially MaryBelle.  I'm also praying for you, my friend .... you have faced such trying situations for so very long.  :(  God give you strength to endure and be victorious.  Also, that you will be a blessing to this woman so overcome with grief.

Oh Ruth Ann I do pray for Marybelle and for you dear friend. What a sad situation. I know her family would have wanted so much to surround her with love during this time of grief.

Nothing my agenda today, iron a couple of items, make a phone call to see about a job on Friday afternoon for 1 month. Call my friend Maureen to see when I can go  to help  here with her computer., Walk the dogs and that is it.

Janet I am praying for Beth. I just wanted you to know that I am still praying.

Liz i am also praying for Wendy and the situation with Amanda.

Al How is the leg?

Where is Pat?

Hi Samantha, Carol, Etta Sue Colin, Jeannine, and all others who look in today.

Thanks, Marilyn, for asking about the leg.   It's about the same, and the main prayer is that it won't get worse - it it stays as it is, then that's not too bad.

We prayed this morning for your job hunt.  We also prayed for Marybelle.  He is gracious and merciful.

Dumb! At least I wasn't late!!

Don't feel bad, Etta.  Right before my heart surgery, I spent well over an hour sitting in line at the DMV to renew my driver's license.  I wanted to get it done before I went in to surgery so that I wouldn't have problems doing it afterward.  The DMV won't take a check or a Visa card, so Karma was so kind as to drive to the bank and get some money from the ATM, etc. etc. etc.  She even sat in the van waiting on me.  (I was struggling a lot with fatigue, etc., and she was driving me around a lot to doctors, etc.)  I studied the little booklet on road signs, etc., carefully.  Knew 'em pretty well.  Talked to several people, yadda yadda.

Only when my number was called and the lady looked at me very blankly did I realize that my license expires on April 20, 2008, not 2007.....

Talk about being early.  And no, they couldn't renew it, so I have to do it all AGAIN next year.

I am praying for all of your concerns.  God Bless You All.

Carol ~ The one time I drove through Houston and around Dallas, it was a breeze!  Not so anywhere in Indy...Interstate or major streets, downtown or the outskirts.  May be like you...I drove it many years and I remember all the disasters and the sitting still and wondering what is going on.

Nards ~ Well, you made me look at my driver's license.  Used to we could renew ours during the month of your birthday but now they expire the day of your birthday.  I looked and mine expires NEXT year, too.  So remind me to renew mine when you renew yours and I will put it on my calender.  I think Indiana can renew there's online.  That's weird.

Here is a clickable for Eagles Nest Restaurant (http://indianapolis.hyatt.com/hyatt/hotels/entertainment/restaurants/index.jsp) atop the Hyatt Regency in downtown Indy.  If you would, click on Virtual Tour at the bottom right of the picture and then on the camera for Eagles Nest.  I was amazed at everything downtown.  I really haven't been downtown Indy for years except to go to the ball game last Sunday week ago.  Nothing looks like it used to.  But then now we have a Convention Center, RCA Dome, Conseco Fieldhouse, and they are building a new place for the Colts to play and yes, going to tear down the RCA Dome...just like they tore down Market Square Arena when they built Conseco.  And I will have to say that the driving was very easy.  The GPS helped a lot, too!!

I took about 3 dozen photos and have spent all morning enhancing them.  I think I am going to try putting them on a Power Point Slide show and give to Kitty.  Or a movie.  Can't decide.

After the Eagles Nest we walked Circle Center Mall...too pricey for me.  Then we had Fried Ice Cream at a Mexican restaurant and went to a HallMark Store after that. We got back here at 5pm!!  Very nice day with memories made.

Thanks for the devotion Al.

Hello to every one:

I have noted prayer requests and will be praying for all.

The old song states "Must Jesus bear the cross alone, and all the world go free?
No, there's a cross for everyone and there's a cross for me.
The consecrated cross I'll bear till death shall set me free.
And then go home my crown to wear, for there's a crown for me."

These words jumped out at me smack in the face yesterday as I answered the phone.

I admit I have cut back on some of the things I should have been doing as a servant of Christ.  I just got into a lazy mode.  Go to Church soak up the sermon and music.  Then go to Sunday School and soak up the lesson.  Hey I was attending Worship services and really thought I was doing what a retired person should be doing.

Sometimes I had this nagging thought that I would suppress "perhaps I should be doing more, ah no! there are many more young talented people  that will do those things."

This nice voice came over the phone my first thought was what is she selling?  I soon came full alert.  "Mr. Gill, I need your help, and I know you are experienced in what I need."  Well, God had tapped me on the shoulder when she said she needed help in one of the second grade Sunday School classes.

I said something feeble like " I  retired from that work a couple of years ago".
She said, "you can come out of retirement, I need help".

So this next Sunday, I am back in the Class room for the 9:45 Sunday School hour serving our Lord.

I had forgotten that famous saying, "If you are not following Jesus who else are you following."

What was it Jesus said about taking up YOUR cross?  I just forgot for a while.  The song above says to bear it until death.

Hi everyone.  I am late getting here today and will be brief.  Have had a good day and it has certainly been a busy week.  I usually attend a meeting on Thursday nights but decided I needed a night where I stayed home.

My wife has been down with her back since Monday.  She basically spent all day yesterday in bed and most of today and is having to walk with a cane as the muscle spasms are bad.  She has been taking some muscle relaxants and seems to be a little better today.  She has this problem occasionally.  It is the getting up and down that is so painful.

I saw one of my cardiologists yesterday for the pacemaker/defibulator.  All is fine and the battery has about 2/3rd of the power left.  I was shocked sometime ago to learn that when the battery is replaced the entire device must be removed and a new one installed.  Considering this device cost $80,000 for it to have to be replaced every 5 to 7 years is really expensive.  I had thought they could just replace the battery but the technician yesterday told me that it can't be opened as moisture would get in the device and it wouldn't work and it could also cause infection.  Etta Sue, just like you I had to wait quite awhile for the technician and then the doctor but had taken a book to read.

Ruth Ann, so sorry to read about your sister-in-law.  It is unfortunate when folks decide to cut themselves off from others.  There are times we need to let others reach out to us just to assure us we are walking alone through the troubles of life.

Till tomorrow.

Good Evening y-all. I have just taken the dogs for the second walk today, it is so cool this evening 64° according tothe temp thing on my toolbar. It looks as if the fog is coming in so that makes it even cooler.

Larry I am sorry to hear that Pat is having back problems. I went to the Chiropractor Tuesday and  boy oh boy did he set me free when he moved my neck. I didn't even realize that my hips were out and  he  pulled on my leg and I felt my right hip slide right into place. I felt so ood afterward.

Good to see you posting Boots.

Etta Sue - thanks for the virtual tour of Indianapolis via the view from Eagles Nest.  I'll probably never see it any other way.  I've been in Indiana a couple of times, but never downtown Indianapolis.  I always came in from Illinois, then right down to Evansville, where my boss lived.

There's one of those rotating dining rooms in a restaurant in San Francisco, too.  It's fantastic.  you get to see the bay, Alcatraz out in it, etc.  I really like places like that.

Please keep praying for my foot.  It seems to be straned, especially when I'm driving.  Whenever I have to shift my foot from the accelerator to the brake and back - that's when it hurts.  We're supposed to be getting older and better, but somehow the "better" part got left out.

Thanks, Al, for taking a tour of downtown Indy.  Yesterday they had a huge Colts celebration in downtown Indy for the opening game.  Even streets were blocked off and a concert with Faith Hill, Kelly Clarkson and others on Monument Circle.  Indy is a beautiful town really!  No ocean to view, tho!  Just White River!!

Marilyn ~ When I went to the chiropractor a couple of times for 6 weeks, I never felt a bone move anytime.  No pain or no feel good later.  No popping.  The rolling table felt the best.  I didn't feel like the chiropractor did anything, really!

Well, today will be cleaning day and then going out to eat with Tony and Charlene tonight.  They are coming here so we will probably go to Anderson to a Mexican place that I hope they haven't been to.  It is a real nice restaurant in downtown Anderson.

Hi everyone.  I just got home from taking my Hyundai in for an oil change and getting one of the brake lights replaced that had burnt out.  They got it in right a the appointed time and it only took maybe 20 minutes.  Then I had to stop at the Kaiser pharmacy to pick up more muscle relaxant for Pat that the doctor ordered yesterday.

Pat is still spending most of the time in bed as that seems to be where she can find the most comfort.  She thinks her back is a bit better today.

Not much planned for the remainder of the day but may decide to attend a meeting tonight or I might just decide to stay home.  The decision will be made later.  :)

Etta Sue, I always enjoy going to Mexican restruants.  Hope you have a great time with you son and DIL.

Al, sorry to read of your sprain.  Sometimes those are so hard to heal.

Marilyn, glad the chiropractor helps you.  Both my wife and daughter receive a lot of benefit from the chiropractor.

Ruth Ann, sorry that you are feeling so tired.  Hope that doesn't last.

I was using Mozilla Firefox and could not get through the messages.  Then, had to get out of it and come back through Windows IE.

Al and Marilyn:  Go to your corners for spatting over who was first.......I haven't said that in years.

Ruth Ann:  Sorry that you are feeling low and tired.  Your sister's situation is so sad and it sounds like she is blaming others for lack of commication when she doesn't let anyone know her situation.  I hope that you can smooth the waters for her.

Larry:  Pat is down with back problems?  That isn't good at all.  It sure takes too long for those aches to go away.

I am cleaning closets and so forth - having some neighbors over for wine and cheese later this afternoon.  Then, must make rolls for a brunch tomorrow and I think that is most of what I have committed to do before we leave.  The weather has turned a bit cooler and we are happy as next weekend we go with all the children to cabins.  Monday, the aspen trees in front will have dead branches trimmed and I am so afraid that the trees will be soon gone.  At my age, I can't wait for a tree to grow - just love looking at the golden leaves outside our office area.  Feeling crabby about it.

Surprise.  This is old Papa John here.  I have made it to 80 years now and am not getting any younger.

I thought I would stop in to say hello.

I had a nice email from Al saying I should come by.

Seems like I have to move a little slower these days and not spend as much time on line as I would like.  I still do a lot of reading and also a lot of sleeping.  We go to church every Sunday and to the doctor every now and then.

I hope you are all well.  I'll try to stop in a little more often.

PAPA JOHN!!!! How wonderful to see your picture again and read that you have celebrated your 80th birthday!  You are such a blessing, and please do come by more often and say hello.  How are all of your family?

I just returned home from spending time with Abby, her parents wont be home until Sunday night, so I brought her home with me after school today.  She will go to my painting meeting with me tomorrow.  I don't think I will be able to paint, but she can, anyway.  I plan to try; if it hurts too much, I will stop.  Holding a pen to write hurts, so expect the same from paintbrushes.  :'(

Larry, sorry to hear Pat is having back problems.  That's hard to put up with, I'm sure.  Hope she feels much better real soon.

I must go pack up painting supplies.  See you another time.

Hi everyone.

Papa John, certainly nice to see your postings this morning and I echo what Al said about your birthday.  My heart doctor told me several years ago it was his goal to keep me living until I was 80 and I liked that.  Of course, I think he is going to retire will before then so I hope he has noted that in red in my chart!  :)

Good morning Samantha.  Thanks for taking the time to pass by and let us know you have been here.  Good morning Jane.

Janet, hope you will be able to paint but if not am sure you will enjoy watching Abby and the others and at least smelling the paints (I assume there is a paint smell involved).  Hope the painting won't hurt your hand and arm.

Carol, I remember those yellow leaves when we were in Denver at the end of September last year.  The trees were truly beautiful.  You sure are particular when you clean your closets so you can have friends over.  You must have nosey friends.  (Just kidding).  :)

Marilyn, sure hope you enjoy your new job.

My good friend, Rod, and his wife left yesterday for a week in a timeshare on Hilton Head.  It looks like they may be getting some rain in that area from the tropical storm.  I heard from him after he arrived and he was very happy that the time share had good quality high speed Internet.  He took two laptops so both he and his brother-in-law could be on the computer at the same time.

Pat was feeling but a little better yesterday.  I did get a pizza in for dinner last night as she wasn't up to cooking and I am a terrible cook.  She did feel up to sitting at her computer awhile last evening as she was tired of laying in bed.  I did get her more muscle relaxants.

I am looking forward to watching a lot of football this afternoon and evening.  I am working on a computer project that I can do while I am in my easy chair and can do that while I have the games on.  Football is really enjoyable with the big screen TV we are fortunate enough to have, thanks to our son.

Not much else on my schedule for today.  I have a meeting to attend today.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Thank you, Samantha and Marilyn, for the Birthday wishes.  And, yes, today is my big 6-5!!  I only feel a day older than yesterday!!

I took a Life Expectancy test online and it says I should reach 96.9 years of age!  That's 30+ more years.  I had better get real healthy because at the rate the last few years have been, I sure won't afford the medications I take in 10 years, let alone 30+.

Enough of doom and gloom.  Today is a happy day!

So happy to see Papa John posting.  Hi, Papa John!  I do read of yours and Norm's antics in Michigan.  You two keep the forum going!  And do give my love to Cornelia!

After Kitty and I being at Eagle's Nest for my birthday and last night with Tony and Charlene...which they had not been to the Mexican restaurant in Anderson before...it is a very colorful restaurant and NOISY...for my birthday, I didn't have any plans today ON my birthday.  Then Kaye Don called awhile ago and asked if I had plans so now us four are going to a Steak House this afternoon.

It seems that after my birthday, Fall begins.  I won't be surprised if next week, I have to get out a light jacket when I go somewhere.  The corn is turning yellow and the soy beans are turning yellow.  Early this year.  A great sign of Fall.  Even some leaves are turning.  But mostly all the changes are because we have had such a dry summer.  I haven't heard from any farmers if the corn and beans will be a good yield this year or not or if the dryness stunted them.  I know that the last few rains have greened up the grass and I will have to mow again real soon...today or, heaven forbid, tomorrow on Sunday.

I am rambling!!

Where is Pat?? ?? ?? ??

Thanks to everyone for your welcome.  It is good to read the posts here again.

We have been having a drought here in Tennessee with no or very little rain most of the summer.  Crops have dried up and there isn't enough hay to feed the cattle so farmers are suffering.  We went 15 days when the temp was over 100.  Looks like we may have rain today and the high is predicted at 89.  It won't be long until we have more rain and cooler weather.

I do appreciate the good welcome and hopefully I will continue to drop in each day

      or eighty, if we have the strength;
yet their span  is but trouble and sorrow,
for they quickly pass, and we fly away.  Psa. 90:10

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ETTA SUE!!!And many more--yep 30+ sounds about right!

I had a good day today painting.  I bought a new wrist support yesterday, it has memory foam padding, and it's much more comfortable than the other one.  The doc and the therapist told me I can use whatever makes it feel better---anyway, I wore it all day and was able to paint with it on.  I took it off on the way home, and within 5 minutes I had pain again.

Abby painted a shirt, too, with butterflies, and did a good job.  They enjoyed having her.

Papa John, good to see you again today!

Pat, good to have you back, too!

See you later!

Thank you Jane, Pat, Colin, Sarah and Janet for the great birthday wishes.  Like Kitty says...you are only 6-5 once!

We had a great lunch today and I was surprised with Aaron going with us to eat.  Very good steak!!

I usually don't stop in in the evening but I was nodding off while watching TV and I can't do that or I won't sleep tonight.  Hard enough sleeping on Saturday night without a nap.

Again, thank you all!

Hi everyone.  I am ready for church and have to be in the choir room about 10 this morning as we are having a combined service that starts 45 minutes earilier than our regular traditional service.  It is followed by a catered bar-b-que lunch.  We bought our tickets last week so I will be able to pick up two lunches to bring home as Pat isn't able to ride in the car yet as is still having a great deal of pain.  This solves the problem of what we will have for lunch today.

Pat is still spending most of her time in a reclining position as she can find a comfortable spot where her back isn't hurting.  It is painful for her to get up or down and the first few steps.  She did get up and down quite a few times yesterday and I know she is getting very tired of having to stay in the house.

Etta Sue, sorry I missed your birthday but here is a belated "Good Wishes".  It sounds like everyone was being sure you didn't go hungry.

Janet, glad you were able to paint.  I think I would be inclined to leave that glove on if it stopped the pain.  I am sure a day of painting was very helpful to you in terms of overall feeling.

JudyB, it was encouraging to read you had slept two nights in a row but then saw you posting during the early morning indicating the pain was back.  Hope it feels better today.

Pat, we are glad to have you back with us.

A special hi to everyone else who has posted and will post today.

Good Morning. Yesterday I went to a church picnic with my Will's family. Willa goes to my church but some  members of her family go to Calvary Chapel in Arcata. We went o Camp Bauer up by Korbel on the Mad River. There was also a baptism in the river of some of the young people.

When we got back here about 2 PM. I took the dogs for their walks and visited with my neighbor for a short while.

Last evening I called Fay to see how she was doing with the new caregiver and also called the man I had visited at the hospital who is home now.

Larry I do hope at will be feeling better soon.

Etta Sue I don't think I could handle going out to eat as often as you do. All that restaurant food just wouldn't set well with my way of eating nutritiously.  Unless the would serve me a whole plate full of veggies with no meat or very little meat.

That is why I like Chan's in Arcata he will not  put the MSG in if you ask him not to. Plus I can order just veggies and noodles with a little chicken mixed in. One plate serves both Fay and I. Or I would have a Taco Salad with chicken at a Mexican resaurant. I don't eat out  very often. I did eat a Polish sausage in a bun yesterday salad and fruit salad.

Talk later

Happy (belated) Social Security Day, Etta Sue.  Now you can really live, with all those big SS payments.  Don't forget to let 'em know.

I am thinking that a grilled steak, baked sweet potato and salad with lite dressing is a whole lot better than what I would have at home.  I did order the Onion Petals but shared them with all five of us.  I tend to snack and grab anything when I am home.  Not fun cooking for myself.  I fix mostly casseroles at home and freeze the leftovers in serving sizes.  Works for me.

And I have been getting SS ever since I turned 60.  It is Spousal's Survivor SS or something like that.  When your spouse passes away and you are still single at the age of 60, you can draw your spouses SS.  I did use my Medicare card last Tuesday since it was effective the first of September.  Also when I reach 65 and 10 months, I am going to draw my own SS.  Now I am still looking for a Drug supplement plan.  Hopefully will have one by the end of October.

I didn't go to church this morning.  I had a rough night last night and not much sleep.  I so wanted to hear about the teen boys and their rescuing the man in Kentucky but I missed it.   :'( :'(

Rainy and dreary out today.  No mowing grass today!

Hi, everybody.  I am so sleepy I can barely keep my eyes open!  I hope Abby will let me read to her for a little while, and then both of us take a nap.  But she has her heart set on going swimming, so we will see.  Her parents will be home tonight.

Sermon this morning was on unity in the church.

I wish all of you a pleasant afternoon and evening.

Etta Sue I did read the story of your Teen Group--What a great bunch of kids, and leaders, too.  God bless them.

It was Rally Sunday and the kids had a petting zoo and tramboline in a net so they were excited.  Really big for this church to spend the money on this.  A good sermon and wonderful music - the Praise Band - and we have lively music these 2nd. Sundays of the month especially.  We went out for breakfast with friends afterwards and I had a pumpkin waffle with pecans.  Then, watched the Broncos win with a last second field goal - there were no time-outs left & they had to really scramble to get the football off.  It was just great timing.

Welcome Home Papa John!  You are not getting older just getting better.

Etta Sue:  Happy Birthday to you!

Larry:  LOL on cleaning for friends - I have been going over everything because on the 20th. we leave for our trip and the other couple arrives here.  Had to show the house & its little quirks to my neighbor.  They are a "regular" couple as Don would say.  Really fun to talk with - this neighborhood has a lot of old people (really, our age) and some are so downright crabby that we stay clear of them - just greet them and take off.  It isn't the most friendly neighborhood I have ever  lived in but we just work around it - have our friends from other places.  This airline regulations on what you can carry on is really difficult and weight restrictions - it isn't easy to get out & on the plane anymore.  Sorry about Pat and I hope that she finds some relief very soon.  Our worst news is that the couple in Cambridge had their computer fixed & now isn't working again and we really did not want to haul a laptop with us as we have a week before we even get to their place - but kinda need it for getting train station info and so many things.  It is a real concern whether or not to be without computer.

Janet;  Sounds like the new soft brace is right for you.  Stick with it!

It is coolish today and I had to turn the heat on although Don thought 65 degrees in the house was just perfect - that Minnesota guy!  Look at what I have to put up with   ::)

We had a wonderful service this morning.  Cornelia stayed for a ladies luncheon and some friends brought her home afterwards.  Martha and I took advantage of the situation and got some Chinese at Publix and came home and enjoyed it.  Cornelia's doctor has said no Chinese food for her because of its sodium.

Marilyn, that was a beautiful clip which almost brought tears to my eyes when Wently Phipps sang Amazing Grace. Thanks for sharing.

Etta Sue, Happy belated birthday.

Cornelia and I continue to read the Bible through out loud.  Last night we finished with Jeremiah.  I particularly liked his description of an idol"

Jeremiah 10:3-5
3 For the customs of the peoples are worthless;
they cut a tree out of the forest,
and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel.
4 They adorn it with silver and gold;
they fasten it with hammer and nails
       so it will not totter.
5 Like a scarecrow in a melon patch,
       their idols cannot speak;
       they must be carried
       because they cannot walk.
       Do not fear them;
       they can do no harm
nor can they do any good.

Papa John
