Morning Devotional...

Psalm 61

This psalm is a model of the kind of trust God wants us to have in Him.  Also included is a model prayer for help with that trust.  The psalmist expresses how his past experience with God has inspired his trust, and he adds a simple prayer for more.  It's a psalm about experience – life's experiences with God and how it can lead to more assurance.

It's the kind of psalm with which each of us would do well to begin our day.  In paraphrasing the psalmist, we could say something like, "Lord, I'm going to be in difficult places todays (name them), but, Lord, I've been blessed by You over all my years.  I pray You'll help me to continue to trust You, that You'll continue to bless me and teach me, and that the blessing will continue all the days of my life and until I come to You at last!"

The point is that in every aspect of our lives, during each and every day, we can only really be successful through God's strength and wisdom.  And it's in that way, in fact, that our lives will therefore also finally bring glory to Him alone.  We might be reminded of our Lord's words in the model prayer He taught His disciples.  He said, "For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever."  He just meant that, since we're living in His kingdom, and since we're living by His power, and since His shall be the glory forever, why then it's in His interest to keep us during every moment of that life.

We could well summarize this psalm: "God cares about this hour – so let's Keep trusting Him!"

Al Moak

So, as always, CHRIST is the answer.  He lived FOR us.

TRUST AND OBEY (http://members.rogers.com/scott4275/sounds/trustobey.mid)
(Click to hear music)

When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.

Refrain:
Trust and obey,
for there's no other way
to be happy in Jesus,
but to trust and obey.

Not a burden we bear,
not a sorrow we share,
but our toil he doth richly repay;
not a grief or a loss,
not a frown or a cross,
but is blest if we trust and obey.

(Refrain)

But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favor he shows,
for the joy he bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey.

(Refrain)

Then in fellowship sweet
we will sit at his feet,
or we'll walk by his side in the way;
what he says we will do,
where he sends we will go;
never fear, only trust and obey.

(Refrain)

Thanks for that, Al.  We need so often to be reminded that He is in control - always!  Even when everything seems in total chaos.

Hi everyone.  We had a really nice rain last evening getting well over an inch with any significant winds.  I had one of those days yesterday when I was very tired.  I did sign in the choir but didn't process with the group and sat throughout the service.  The choir director told me just to move my lips during hymns and I sang only with the choir on the anthem and the final dismissal piece the choir does, which is short.  We didn't go out to eat and then I spent almost all afternoon resting and sleeping and then went to bed early last evening and slept well.  Am feeling pretty rested so far this morning.  I told the choir director that I am going to try to continue in the choir until after the Christmas Cantata but may have to throw in the towel after that.  Guess this is the normal progression of the heart disease as the heart weakens.  The schedule today is just attend the Monday Men's Luncheon and then I have a meeting to attend this evening for an hour.

Marilyn, we have discussed what they do for arthritic pain but Pat's is more the fibromyalgia and loss of the cushioning in her knee.

Janet, wow you must have a lot of cabinets.  I am impressed at your building skills as I have never done anything like that.  You are one talented lady.

Judy, you have quite a nature preserve around your home.

Al, thanks for the fine devotional thought on Psalm 61.

I have just read that the leader of the Opposition Party of Canada has died.  I did not vote for him but was encouraged by his enthusuiasium during the election held just this spring.  He will be missed...

Heading out with Kass to discuss her timetable for this coming year.  This is her last year and she wants all the "tough" subjects in the first semester.

Pat and Paul are in Oregan.  I wish I were with them!

Have a good day folks.

No, Ivalou didn't come to church in her 'wedding' clothes.  In fact, she didn't come to church, nor Marge or Betty.  I didn't even know she was home until last evening.  After church three of us ladies went out to eat.  Then home.  I read 'The Help' until I fell asleep.  Inky and I slept until 6pm!!  I called Ivalou and she said she got home around noon.  Then I took her mail to her and talked some more!

And I think Kitty is going to get another phone.  She has 14 days to return this one if she doesn't like it.  It is all because of the touch keypads.  She wants to type too fast and therefore she makes too many mistakes.  Then it takes forever to correct them.  I keep telling her to s-l-o-w down!!  But I am sure she is convinced this phone is faulty!!

Today my agenda is to mow, eat lunch, shower, go to a funeral visitation and watch TV.  Read in between maybe.  The funeral visitation is for a lady that was 98 years old.  She graduated from high school with my Mom and Dad.  Anna never married and was Vice-President of the Lapel Bank.  She only has two survivors...a niece and a nephew.  The niece graduated with me in high school.  They live in Illinois.  BUT her DIL lives in Greenfield and goes to my old church, Park Chapel Christian Church.  I get emails from Jennifer through PCCC and Jennifer is a friend on FaceBook.  So I want to meet her!!

Almost done with my 2nd cup of coffee so I had better get out there and mow.  Still looks a little damp from dew.  The dew is so heavy this year!!

Not sure if I will be here tomorrow.  Kitty and I are leaving at 7am and going to Shipshewana.  That is a town up by Michigan in Amish Country.  They have a flea market open on Tuesdays plus all the other specialty shoppes!  It will be an all day outing!!

Larry I understand that Fibromyalgia can be very debilitating and painful all over the body. I do get pain every once in awhile in to Fibro  trigger points but I am in denial as the pain isn't more than I can deal with. I have a high pain tolerance.

Judy that is Oregon  pronounced Or ee Gun, a lot of people put the emphasis on Gone.

I made Blackberry Jelly this morning before I went to the mall to get a fill done on my fingernails. They are now a pretty pink with sparkles.

Etta Sue the monthly free Senior movie tomorrow is The Help I am looking forward to seeing the movie.

Judy:  Thanks - I did check Facebook.

I had the best birthday on Sunday starting with church a the 7:30 AM service - it was a WOW.  We went to pick up a cake Don had ordered, he did not bake my cake, and the icing woman was late so they had someone put thick frosting on it and gave the entire thing to us FREE.  Had coffee & a roll at Panera's and the entire family for several hours.  We met at youngest son's new home - it is older and needs a ton of work outdoors & they had it so spiffy after being in it only two weeks.  Eldest son had to head out early for a flight to Portland, OR - Or-gun is how we always pronounced it.  Everyone chipped in and bought an iPad for me & now I am learning all kinds of things.

Back to normal today with washing & baking a banana wheat bread right now.  Neighbors coming for breadfast tomorrow morning & they are so dear - we couldn't be luckier or happier.  Don is making biscuits & gravy.  I can't make the breakfast on Wed for the neighbors as I really need to be with Don at a medical appointment.  Thursday is my med appt.  So it goes - lots going on daily.

Ruth Ann:  I am so excited for you on thinking about starting a quilt.  Do you have a good friend to quilt with as it is so much fun to share your thoughts.  Keep me posted, please.

Al:  thank you for today's devotions and remembering to continue trusting each hour of the day.

hullo everyone and thanks Al for your devotional. In Adelaide South Australia spring has come a little earlier than it is supposed to but it usually does. We have blossoms in our prunus tree and the silver eyes are back to get the nectar as they do each year.Beautiful little birds that are very long travellers in their seasonal migrations. We are praising God that our daughter in law Jannah has come through an operation yesterday and we have been having fun babysitting our 2 grandsons.I am still busy blogging away but I have an intention to try and spend more time on this forum.Love and prayers to all from Geoff T in Adelaide. PS I have just read that millionaire entrepeneur Richard Branson of Virgin has lost his house and many photos in a fire in the Carribean during a thunderstorm.I pray that he and his family can know God's presence through this. There was no loss of life but the Actress Kate Winslett apparantly carried out his 90 yo mother. It does not matter how rich or famous or poor  we are, we all  vulnerable  and all of us need Jesus.Isn't it wonderful to have families and friends. We all have so many blessings to count. For those who don't have immediate supportive family God wonderfully provides for us through His Church if we let Him.

Today's been a really busy day - physical therapy for 2 hours (which left me with some pain), then purchased some food and filled up my gasoline tank.

Did some online work with friends, tried to go to the Longevity Center here to get in a walking in water workout at the 6 pm hour, but the last 4 times I've gone, no one has been there although the door is posted that it will be open from 6-7. I've inquired 3 times and been given the runaround, so will take my query to the owner of the apartment complex by email tomorrow.

And, tomorrow promises to be another busy one. I had already set up an auto checkup for tomorrow (did that last week), and then my car's air conditioner went out today, so believe me, in 91+ heat, I sweltered trying to get my errands run.

Carol, thanks for commenting about the quilt. I hope to begin sometime during the winter, and it will be a good pastime for me as I will be in the apartment as much as possible.

Well, y'all have a great rest of the day with our Lord.

Love to all,
Ruth Ann

Hello Everyone!!!!

We're in Or-e-GUN!!!!  (I learned today how to pronounce it!!!  LOL)

What a wonderful busy trip this has been so far...nearly 3,000 miles (not sure of the exact number).  We're at Peter's home right now.  He's Paul's brother and I can hardly wait till Thursday when we get to have lunch with Jane and Marilyn in Florence, Oregon!  I just so wish that Al and Marbeth could be with them.  :(  :(  :(  I've known Alan for so many, many years and enjoyed telephone conversations over the years as did Jack enjoy speaking to Alan and here we are all this way out here and just wish we could share a hug.  :(  :(

Tomorrow, we go to Mount Hood.

Today we were in the Columbia River Gorge visiting some waterfalls.

Hi Geoff!

So nice to see you posting.  I hadn't heard of Richard Branson's loss but that really is terrible for anyone to go through that.

Enjoy your springtime and hopefully we'll see some photos of yours of this favorite season of mine.

God bless you richly.

I am here after all.  Not eating breakfast at home, it doesn't take long for me to be ready!

And I didn't realize how dark it is at 6am.  The eastern horizon is a pretty pink right now.  Beautiful.  Promises of a beautiful day.

I slept good last night.  I usually don't when I am headed out for a trip somewhere.  This will be a short one but I know Kitty and I will enjoy our time together seeing and doing things we don't normally do.

As Arnold would say,....I'll be back!

We had another really hot day here yesterday, up to 97 but think I heard we will just be in the high 80s today.  I have a light schedule for today.  Went to coffee and then  a meeting and that is it for today.  Our daughter fell yesterday and has banged up the knee on her good leg.  Since her legs are numb with the neuropathy she didn't realize her boot on the bad foot had caught on a step and that caused the fall.

Etta Sue, hope your visit to the flea market was a lot of fun.  Have you been there before?

Marilyn, I believe everyone with fibromyalgia must have to have a pretty high pain tolenance.  However, sometimes the pain gets much worse than other times.  Yesterday Pat was better but the pain is back today.  She worked in the kitchen this morning and that must have been too much for her.  I was talking with a couple of men at lunch yesterday who have seen the movie of "The Help" and they said they really enjoyed it and the acting was wonderful.

Carol, Happy Birthday and I bet you are going to love the iPad.  I may get one for Pat at Christmas (and then hope she doesn't like it so I would get it--aren't I awful).  I haven't heard anyone having one of them that didn't like it.  It will also be a great ebook reader as there are apps for Barnes & Noble as well as the Kindle and, of course, the iBook reader.  Sounds like you had a wonderful birthday celebration.

Geoff, been a long time since I saw your posting.  Welcome back and don't be a stranger.  I heard of the fire on our newscasts as well.

Ruth Ann, never a good time to lose your AC in your car.  Hope it isn't anything too serious.

Pat, nice to see that your trip is going so well.

[ :)Hi to all.   Well it has been a long time since I posted and it has been a very busy summer as my oldest brother was here in Canada for one month and then he had left and we had to get ready to go to a cottage that was given to us for two weeks so the first week my grand kids and my kids and there wife's all came so that was a lot of fun    The second week my back decided to go out and that was not good as my wife has enough problems with hers as was not able to do hardly anything and that made it very hard for her.  But the Lord is always able and he got us through it.  :)   I am still having physio for it and I think it is helping.

My daughter just had surgery for a Hernia behind her belly button caused by having her two children and we have had to help her which has been very hard as we were told not to lift but we had to as she cannot lift for 6 to 8 weeks so we have had to just carry on and again the Lord gets us through always.  We would value your continued prayers for all of us and we will do the same for you. :)

All our Love.   Gordon and Noreen :cp: :nanadance:

Gord, it's good, as always, to hear from you.  A mixed message of good times, enjoying first your brother and then you grandchildren, and then the difficulties of physical problems.

I've been following the news reports of a major 5.9 magnitude earthquake in Virginia, with tremors felt as far north as Albany, New York, just 50 miles south of me.  My daughter and her children are on the road, on the way here from North Carolina and may have been in the area of the quake at the time.  Pray, please, that they are OK and that I can leave it in the Lord's hands.

One of the major disappointments of my life is not being able to get up to Coos Bay (where Jane lives) to go on up and meet Pat/Paul.  But God knew all about this, and though the reasons don't appear obvious, yet we know He knows what's best for time and eternity.

Breakfast was so enjoyable here today with a neighbor couple and a single friend who was widowed suddenly before she moved into her house.  We did meet her husband  - all go to the same church.  She is doing very well.

Well, I think I just reported that our son-in-law did get a new job and today after company left, our youngest son called & told us he (as well as many others) are being laid off.  He & his wife just moved into a different house & had plans to fix some things.  Don is already on the internet checking out jobs - as well as our son who has never had this happen in his life.

Larry:  LOL on the iPad dilemma with Pat.  We have friends who bought two because they didn't want to share.  Colors are really bright and clear on it - Apple just sent an email and I can set it up somehow to track it in case of being left somewhere.  Apple must know what kind of an airhead they are dealing with these days.   :D

Al, I heard the disappointment in your voice as you left the message this morning.  (I was at the movies when you called).  I was relieved that it was a message on the answering machine, because if I had spoken directly with you I believe I would have been fighting tears, as I, too, am disappointed. :( You do have to follow the doctor's orders, however ... God knows all about it, as you say, and He will make all things clear -- in His timing.  I'm still praying for you.

Geoff, I'm so sorry to learn of your daughter's problems! Certainly, we'll be praying with your family as you deal with this situation.

I received a blessing the Lord planned for me in 2008 when I felt prompted to put extended warranty on the car I was purchasing. Today, He revealed those plans to me:  the air conditioner malfunction was covered by that warranty, so instead of hundreds of dollars, my cost is $60 for the insurance deductible, and the insurance also covered a rental car for the rest of the day while they were making the repairs. He, in His infinite wisdom and love, knew that I would be dealing with a painful back/leg problem and a flat wallet, so He made plans to care for me years in advance.

Yesterday I received a christian newsletter that contained the following. How very true it is!

In Jeremiah 29:11 notice that the word "plans" is plural.

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord,
"plans to prosper you and not to harm you,
plans to give you hope and a future."

God's plans are not static. If we've failed, we find He is a God of multiple plans for us.

Thank You, Father, for Your amazing grace.

"The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning" (Lamentations 3:22-23 NLT).

Love to each of you,
Ruth Ann

Good evening.  I am weary beyond words, so just checking in.  We are trying to choose colors for the walls and floor coverings.  Dealing with insurance, bids, etc.....all stressful.  But others have far more pressing problems, so I should not complain.  And I am sure the world will look brighter in the morning.

Right now, a shower and bed sound wonderful to me!

Kitty and I had a great time at Shipshewana and the flea market.  I spent way too much money...three meals, a Vera Bradley purse for me at half price, four American Flags at a huge discount, two soy candles that smell delightful, a jelly roll pan so I can now make two batches of Candy Crackers at once, a popcorn blouse for Marge's birthday and a bag of Sesame Sticks.  I did find out that even though my back is much better, walking on gravel is very tiring and hurts my back.  Thank God, there were lots of benches for sit down occasions.

Kitty was a happy camper when we went into a Dry Goods Store.  They had SAS shoes.  Kitty has to wear orthotics so she has to have shoes that the insoles can be removed and put hers in.  She got a nice pair of tennis shoes that she says, doesn't look like hospital shoes.  She also found some all white muslin tea towels that she wants to paint happy fruit and veggies on for Christmas presents.  And Kitty can't pass up a book store so she bought a book!

And thank God, I avoided two accidents that would have us right in the middle!  Drivers....grrrrr!!

I washed my car Monday night.  Hawaii looked so shiny and red!!  Yesterday, about 30 miles north they were redoing a road.  They were putting tar on the road and then a layer of small white stone!!  Dusty!  I had to drive in that dust for about 5 miles!!  Then on the way home, it would sprinkle rain just enough to turn on the wipes once in awhile.  Poor Hawaii!  She is coated in white talcum powder dust with spots!!  I may have to wash her again today!

I am planning on going to a different facility today for water maintenance.  I can still use my membership there.  It is nice that I can go swimming Monday thru Friday somewhere.

It is something all drivers need to be aware of...It is amazing sitting behind the wheel of a semi and seeing all the foolish moves car drivers take with trucks...  They sure don't value their life.

Great video..... a must see for all!!  On the highways we encounter trucks all the time and we, as smaller vehicle drivers, need to know how much room and time a truck needs to maneuver.

Great job, John!!

Hi everyone.  A very busy day so far and still have choir this evening.  After coffee this morning I went to Bible Study, then Pat and I went to Wal-Mart for a few items.  I went to the back of the store and she go the grocery items in produce and at the front.  We came home to put things away and then went to O'Charley's for lunch.  It was 2 pm when we got home.  I rested for 90 minutes or so and now want to catch up on the message boards.  Pat did not have a good day yesterday and it hasn't been great today and is having to rely on the cane.

Gord, you have had quite a summer.  Not good when you and Noreen both are down with back problems and then having to help with little ones to help your daughter.  Glad you had at least one enjoyable week at the cottage.

Jeanne, the quake was felt here in Atlanta in the high rise buildings.  We didn't experience anything but our town sits on a part of Stone Mountain.

Al, we have to do or not do what we feel best.

Carol, one door opens and another closes.  So sorry to learn of the job loss.  Things are in dire straits in this country and the government keeps doing things that make it worse.  I read that in July alone the government put out 357 new regulations that businesses must obey.  That is on top of all the other regulations and laws.  Regarding the iPad, the HP tablet that was put on the market not too long ago for over $500 is being sold off for $100 as HP has decided not to make computer and tablets and these types of consumer electronics.  Both my friend and I will be keeping a sharp eye out and will try to buy one each when they become available again, with the HP website says is going to happen.

Geoff, sorry to hear of the medical troubles your daughter is having and hope she will be able to recover soon.

Ruth Ann, glad you had the warranty on your car.

Etta Sue, what in the world is a popcorn blouse?  Remember the days when they were putting down oil or tar and you had to drive through it and got it, not dust on the car?  Bad memory!

Judy, great video and now we have a moving image in our minds of what John looks like and sounds like.  Have you been able to view the video?

I will have my laptop soon mom ... I will record them for you if you haven't had an opportunity to see them because of your connection.  Dad, I know you will see this, cuz mom will show you ... You look awesome in that jacket!!  Way to go!

Folks, that's my dad ... my hero!

I would also like to ask for prayer for our area ... not sure if mom has looked at the weather in the last while, but we are under a Tornado Watch ... now tornados rarely occur up here, so if one touches down or causes any damage, it could be devastating to the people who live here and wouldn't be prepared for it ...

What a great training video, and John looks much like he did when he and Kassie met me at a truck stop here in Nashville - I think it was 2005, for I was on crutches after that broken ankle.

It was good to hear from each of you today. My goodness, so many things happening in all our lives.

Much love to each of you.

Geoff:  I meant to mention your post concerning your family - prayers for health and recovery.

JudyB:  Nice video.  That is quite a responsible job and most drivers don't realize that trucks need more space to stop - like a motorcycle too.

We spent a long time at the VA hospital today and mostly to change a doctor for Don - the one he deals with now never sends results and never communicates after written questions & so forth.  It may take months but worth it.  You count your blessings every time walking through the VA.

Fresh corn tonight and a sweet neighbor brought over peaches.  Lovely.

Larry, you are absolutely right that there is human responsibility. We do need to choose the best course every time we turn around.  But then, having made our choices, we also need to be aware that our puny little actions do not change God's sovereignty at all.  It's right at that point that we need to communicate with God via the means He's given us - prayer.  Not that He doesn't already know, but He often uses our prayers to accomplish His will, praise His holy Name!

Another busy day, but the stress has eased up some, as we have made the decision as to what kind of flooring we will use in the living room.  Right now, I have a sparkling white living room!  (Primer)  But tomorrow it will turn to lovely shades of purple!  Darrel really surprised me when he chose that color, I told him that after being married to him for 30 years, I didn't know he liked purple.  His response:  Well, I do!   :)

I still feel really tired, but got up and walked this morning anyway.  Hope I can sleep well tonight.  Our guys (carpenter and helper) are to get here earlier in the morning, as they don't have to stop at the lumber yard.

"Earthquakes in various places"....another sign of the end times!  We even had an earthquake here in Kansas yesterday, but we didn't feel it here at our place.

How we need to pray for our country and for Israel, as the UN vote approaches next month!

We have had an afternoon and evening of storms.  Seeme all of Ontario was under a weather watch and mush was under a tornado watch...We had heavy rains and a lot of thunder/lightening,  We were under a tornado watch but the worst that happened was a loss of hydro for a couple of hours.

I am praying for the various needs expressed here.  God knows them even if I succomb to memory loss!

A lot of Puter work to get done before bed.

Well, how lovely to read all of your posts.  I'm so sad though that it will be impossible to see Alan who I've been a close friend of for so many years.  How Jack loved to have conversations with you, Al and me too and to see you would be the "icing on the cake" so to speak.

I do pray that you will be feeling better soon.

It's going to be so nice to see Jane and Marilyn tomorrow.  Today was a wonderful day at Cannon Beach.

Hi everyone.  Got up a little bit earlier as wanted to get several things done before leaving the house this morning.  After coffee I am going down to Atlanta and pickup our daughter to bring her out for overnight.  It has been quite a few weeks since she was out here and is anxious to get away from her apartment.  It was really hot here again yesterday and more of the same today.  I am ready for fall to arrive.  The impending hurricane is not looking very look for the East coast from North Carolina up the remaining coast.  It appears it will pretty well leave Georgia alone.

Heather, nice to see you post and to see your words of praise for your father.  Sure hope that no tornados hit anywhere in your area.

Carol, you mentioning counting your blessing when walking through the VA causes me to think that I do the same thing when we go to the cafeteria at the Shepard's Spinal Center and see the terrible conditions that people have to cope with.  Many of these folks are very young and their whole live has been impacted from a motorcycle or car accident as well as illnesses.  Shepard's has a big building right next door to house the families of those hospitalized that are from other parts of the country.

Al, I agree with you on your comments about being open to God.  I have learned that praying is speaking to God and meditation is listening to what God has to say to us.  I know that God has plans for my life and that I am where I am suppose to be at this moment.

Janet, you will have to share some photos with us of your remodeled home and the purple room.  I am sure it will be beautiful when done.  We have one section of wall in our family room, where Pat displays her white-on-white quilt, painted a deep red and it looks very nice.  It helps offset the starkness of the white walls.

Judy, glad to see that the storms didn't do any significant damage.

Pat, I know we will have some great pictures of your visit with Jane and Marilyn today as you have such a nice camera and are such a good photographer.  It sounds like you all are having a wonderful time on your trip.

It is so warm tonight that I just gave up and am starting coffee.   Today is supposed to hit 100 degrees and that will be another record.

Al:  Praying for your return to good health.  Yes, I understand that our "puny little actions" do not change anything and accept the terms that go along with the gifts of faith.  Best to you and Marbeth.

It sure looks like this latest hurricane will be damaging and must be dreadful to wait and see what will happen.

Yawning and so sleepy but there is a dr. appointment early in the morning.

Janet:  Purple - that was my favorite color and is our granddaughter's favorite now.  Purple Vikings team - remember the song of a "One eyed purple people eater"?

I do remember that song, Carol!  And the KS State Wildcats team are purple, too!  Since three of our grandsons graduated from K-State, they should enjoy visiting us.  ;)  The guys applied a coat of "mud" randomly all over the ceilings and walls to hide any imperfections and to make it look like old plaster.  Now we will be applying the paint to look like a "Venetian" wall.  Although the colors usually used in this technique are more to the ochre-beige=orange, ours will be something new--purple!  But as I thought about it, I decided that WE are the ones who live here, and if we love it, it doesn't matter what others think.  Why does it take us so many years to get to the place we don't care what others' opinions are on things that only concern US?  :idiot:

Larry, glad you can go get Stacey for the weekend again.  I know Beth sure likes to get out of the home occasionally.  Her birthday is Sunday and we will be going to the Pizza Hut, she has invited about 25 of her friends to join us there to celebrate her birthday.  I am so glad she wants to do it this way, as planning and doing a big party wouldn't have worked for me, in the midst of all the work on the house.  I will buy some ice cream cakes for her and take those for dessert.

Pat, I so wish I could meet with you and Paul, but even if we had lanned to make the long drive, this house mess would hav e prevented it.  God willing, next time you are anywhere near, we can make it happen.

Everything is in such a mess, and I know I am getting behind on some of my bills and such.  They guys promised to have the living room back to where we can actually LIVE in it by Saturday, so that will enable me to find things again.  Just now, we can barely walk through anywhere except the bedroom, and it is fairly open.  Enough on that!  Sorry.

I wish you all a wonderful Thursday!

Larry, I am sure if you visited any Flea Markets in Florida you have seen Popcorn Blouses/shirts!  Here are some pictures of them.  Popcorn Blouses (http://popcornblousecompany.com/popcorn-blouse-store/coin-texture-stretchy-tank-p-92.html?osCsid=21c0b77070eac0d54aa05c03290a6ef9).  When not on a body, they look like they would fit a doll.  They are made of shiny, satiny material so they look rich.  Marge likes things flashy so I purchased a black and white short-sleeved one for her!  She works in a funeral home as a greeter so she likes to look nice....and she does.

Al, if I lived near you, I would drive you and Marbeth to see Pat and Paul, Jane, Marilyn and Nita.  If you are able to ride, I would drive...and stop along the way all you wished or wanted!

I went to the Carmel Rehab Facility yesterday.  Quite different.  At one time there was only two men and I in the water.  The pool seems larger but there isn't a ramp like Noblesville has.  I got kind of a 'Oh, no!' when I went back to the dressing room.  Another lady had her swim suit on and was putting things in a locker.  She said 'I think I need to learn my way around this place.  It's my first time here.'  I told her me, too!  She said 'But I know I just changed in the MENS locker room.  As I was almost in my suit, I noticed men's shoes sitting around!'  OH, NO!

I left there and went to Noblesville and got Hawaii washed again!  She looked so sad all covered with white dust!

I spotted a gas station that on the marquee said 'Reg.  $3.54.9'  So I pulled in there.  And would you believe, before I started pumping the price changed to $3.79.9!!!!  Right before my eyes!!!  25 cents higher!  But I needed gas and sure enough all the other stations I went past, was the same price.

I came home and puttered around a bit.  At 4:30 I picked up Ivalou, then Marge and then Betty.  We all ate at Logan's Steak House and then went to the movies.  We saw 'The Help'!  Now this was my pick of shows and I didn't know what the others would think about it.  And I read the book.  Anyway, they all said it was one of the best movies they had ever seen...would like to see it again...would like to read the book....there was comedy but also history.  So it was a winner all around!  I would like to get the DVD when it comes out.

It was dark when we got home but a very nice day...all in all!

Hi, I'm in from 2.5 hours of physical therapy. The therapist found all the sore spots and worked on them with therapeutic massage after I had done all the exercises. Then, he put the TENS unit to my lower spine/hip area, and also did ultrasound on the painful muscle in my left leg.  I'm SO very grateful.

Now to rest a bit and watch creative people doing creative things in home decorating. We can't paint over our off white walls, so must come up with color in other ways.

Well, time to rest -

Love and prayers to each of you,
Ruth Ann

Hi everyone.  We had another very hot day yesterday.  Our daughter came out and spent the night.  Late yesterday afternoon I went to the store to pick up a few items for her as there wouldn't be time this morning as the schedule is full this A.M.  It was very hot at that time in the high 90s.  Think we have another hot day on tap today.  As soon as I come back from coffee, which is earlier on Friday's since we meet earlier at the senior center, I will head back downtown to take her home.  I need to be back home by 10:30 as Pat needs to be somewhere by 11 and I have a luncheon at 11:30.  Thankfully that is all that we have to do today.

Janet, you should always please yourself and then at least one person will be happy.  Why do we care what someone else may like or dislike when it is our home?  I think Stacey talked none-stop from the moment I picked her up until her mother came to bed last night.  The activities of yesterday left me pretty tired so I went to bed early but could hear them talking in the other room.

Etta Sue, it has been many years now since we visited a flea market in Florida but in looking at the picture I do recognize having seen women wearing this type of blouse.  I hear the price of gas will likely go up again due to closing of some refineries along the East coast dur to the pending storm.  I think all prices must be posted by a central computer.

I didn't do much yesterday other than a couple of loads of laundry and catching up on recorded TV shows.  I did knit two dish clothes.  I saw them in Shipshewana but they didn't have the holey edges.  I made up a pattern and like them better without the holes.

Our minister and I were playing phone and Voice Mail tag yesterday.  I was talking to someone and my phone rang.  When I hung up, I saw it was Steve.  I called back and his line was busy.  I left him a Voice Mail. Then I noticed I had a Voice Mail.  I called Steve back and left another Voice Mail letting him know that I heard his Voice Mail and that I would be at the church today between 3 and 3:15pm and I would bring and unopened bottle of water to take to the stadium.  A few of us are going to Cincinnati to the Reds game tonight.

So now I am waiting until a little before 3 to go to church and head to Cincy!

Beautiful weather here today.  Cool right now but we are to get to the 80's by afternoon and then cool again tonight.  To take a sweater or not to take a sweater???

We are driving to daughter's house and then to watch an air show with her and our granddaughter.  Grandson & her husband are driving to Minnesota school today.  Grandson just got his driver's license and I don't know if he will drive - he slept 9 hours on the last trip.  Other grandson's marching band is holding a fund raiser and Don is busy making pens to sell for the band.

Irene, the hurricane, is looking fierce.  I hope any of you on the coast are evacuating.  One of the Senior Netters, Johann, is in Va Beach, VA and that looks like a red warning area.  Prayers for all in the path.

I am praying that the hurricane will swerve and head out to sea and dissipate, not hitting the coastal states at all.  But God is in control....

I am quite frustrated as we have tried several techniques on this wall, trying to get a faux finish (I had done them before, so ins. pays to have them done again) But nothing seems to work.  I am nearly in tears, as I do not want to be a grouch and make him keep doing it over!  I am helping him, as most of those techniques take two people.

Dallas (helper) is busy taking up the tack strips so the wood flooring can be laid in the living room---when we finally get the walls to suit me!  :'(

Back to work.  God bless you all!

Hi everyone.  I got up early today for a Saturday as woke up and started thinking about some things I wanted to get accomplished today.  So I decided to get up and get with it.  Other than coffee and a morning meeting the day should be pretty clear.  I sure have our friends in the Carolina's and up the East Coast in my thoughts today.  It is going to be a rough weekend for many people.

Etta Sue, hope it wasn't too hot at the stadium and that your team won the baseball game.  It has been several years since I attended a Braves game and have no plans to do so in the future.  There was just too many stairs and walking involved.  That trip was with a church group and that was enjoyable.

Carol, Hope you enjoyed the air show.  I have never attended one in person.

Janet, hope you came up with the right technique.  Don't settle for less than what you want since it would be a continual source of frustration for you.  However, this too shall pass and just become a bad memory.  Sure hope you don't injure your shoulder with all this work on the walls.

Marilyn, I looked at the fine photos you took of the visit with Pat, Paul, Jane and Paul's family.  It looked like you all were having a great time.

Judy, do you tell John in advance what repair projects are waiting for him when he gets home?

Gord, as always good to see your posting.  Even though it is very tiring it is wonderful that you can spend this time with your grandchildren.  That is something I never had the privilege of doing.

I am up early today again, as I was so wiped out last evening I kept falling asleep trying to watch Perry Stone on CBN, so just gave it up and went to bed.  I had had my shower and it relaxed me, plus the fact I had done a hard day's work.  The dog also wanted to get up!

Ah, yes.....grandkids.  They are such a joy, aren't they?  Larry, I am so sorry you missed out on spending time with yours.  I tell people that being a Grandma is the best job I have ever had!   :)  Gord, thanks for your caring words, and just enjoy those kids every chance you get; they grow up far too quickly!

Marilyn, what lovely pictures!  I so wish I could meet with everyone on CP.  It is amazing what a bond we form with our computer friends, then when we meet them in person, it feels as if we have known them for life!  When I miss a get-together like this, I always console myself with thinking that when we all get to heaven, we will have eternity to visit and enjoy our friends, along with doing meaningful work.

Our carpenteer came back from lunch with more paint, tried again, no go.  He saw the tears rolling down my face and felt so bad.  I gave him a hug and told him it isn't his fault.  I had gone to look at some walls at an exercise place, so he went to see them (lovely Venetian look) and said, "Don't be excited, we will get it right.  We ARE going to get the look you want!"  I told him I wasn't excited, I was disappointed and that I don't want to keep making him do it over and over.  I'm not making him, he is very anxious to please, and tries so hard!  Then he decided he was going to drive back to Garden City--60 miles away--again, to get the exact materials used on the wall I liked.  Then he was talking and piddling around here until I looked at him and said, "Well, Sweet Thing, if you're going to Garden, get going!"  He was a bit startled, I think!  He said to his helper, "Did you hear her?  I guess I better go!"  This was all done in a congenial manner, of course.  He called around six last evening and said he has the materials and will be here this morning to try again.

I so want to get the living room back in order as all this chaos is really wearing on Darrel.  He wanders around like a lost kid, not knowing what to do with himself.  We decided to paint the wood trim in living room white, which didn't set well with Darrel.  He said, "After all that work I did to stain and finish it, you're going to paint it?"  So I reminded him that it was I who stained and finished every board!  Anyway, after we talked a bit, he came to agreement.  The white does look better and brightens up the room.  It was almost physically painful to me to paint that woodwork, though, because I do love the wood colors and the grain in wood.  I did a lot of painting yesterday, but it is something I enjoy and am good at.  I can cut a fine line without even using tape.  That comes from years of practice!  I am glad I am not doing ceilings, though, as that really hurts my neck.  Yes, yes, I know....TMI again....sorry.

MAYBE today these walls will be finished and the flooring can be laid.  Then the last part will be the crown molding......and I have to figure out new window treatments, too.  And that's just one room.  Oops, sorry, I am rattling on again.

Happy Saturday, folks!

Janet, I'm glad you got a good night's sleep, but the price was pretty high.  Don't let all this work and frustration wear you down to where you'll get sick.  Darrel and Beth both need you well - not to mention how all of us here on CP need you!  As far as I'm concerned, you never give us TMI.   ;)

Thank you all for the nice comments on the pictures. Anyway good morning from the overcast foggy coast of Oregon. I am sure this will a burn off around noon and the  sun will shine. We are keeping a close eye on the path of the hurricane as we both have family in North Carolina So far everyone seems to be OK. We called Keith's sister last evening and we could hear the wind right through the phone.

Well I guess I better go get dressed, and get another  :coffee:.

Al I will see you next weekend and we will take some pictures for our friends here.

The game was great.  At first kind of boring and HOT!  Temperature wise!  Huge crowd!  Washington Nationals scored three runs.  Reds got a run.  Then another.  Then another.  Tied three all.  7th inning...tied.  8th inning....tied.  9th inning...still tied.  Over time.  Washington didn't score.  Bottom of the inning...Reds got two men on base and two outs.  The guy hit a homer!!!  Score--Reds...6, Nationals...3.  Great game!!

I didn't get home until 1:20am and was still hyped up so caught up online.  I went to bed sometime after 2am!!

I got up this morning before 9am.  Dressed and went to Lapel for breakfast and then Dollar General.  Went for Club Crackers.  Paid my bill.  Got in the car and remembered Club Crackers.  So I went back in and got them!!

Tomorrow we are having a church picnic at 5:30pm so I am taking Candy Crackers!

What great pictures of Paul, Pat, Jane and Marilyn!!  Where was Nita?
Wish I could have been there.  Looks like a lot of fun was had by all and the food?  Well, it sounded delicious.  Even smelling that chocolate fudge would have been great!

Janet, don't know if I could handle my house being re-done or not.  I think I would spend my time at Ivalou's and let the carpenters do their job! My body wouldn't handle the work and I could not stand by and watch if I were there.

The guys have gone to lunch, so here is another update.   :(  Lon bought two gallons of the special paint to do the Venetian finish, to the tune of $59.95 per gallon---and the color was awful!  Really a dark plumish purple, which dried to a really battleship grey-purple.  We both hated it.  So then he started peeling the paint we have applied on the wall over the past few days off, in big hunks, now we have a really ugly big space.  Next, he applied the dry wall mud again, now that is drying-again!- and then we will prime-again!--and paint, yet again!  :clobber:  But we have figured out a place to use that high priced stuff, in the bathroom.  It closely matches some of the onyx stuff for shower and vanity top, and with the addition of some pinks somewhere, maybe a border, it will work.  Boy, that stuff is slick once it dries and you burnish it.  Have you seen it?  Lovely, but just the color wasn't right.  I told him if we have to choose a color again, I am going with him!

This afternoon, if everything dries soon enough, we will do a rag rolling technique on this wall and call it good.  I am tried of messing with it!

The helper got all but one wall in our bedroom primed this morning, the wall behind the big headboard of our bed, which is a bear to move.   And I got a coat of white on the windows and doors and casings in the L.R.  Little by little........but I can see no flooring will be laid today!

I need to find something to eat before they come back.  Later.

Etta Sue, May I have some candy crackers for a snack?  Thanks.  ;)

Janet, with the travelling, I'm not up to date with your decorating but it sure sounds as if you've been through a lot.

It was so good to meet up with Jane and Marilyn.  I must go and see your pics, Marilyn.  They are probably the same as mine.  ;)

All the photos I've been posting on Facebook have been taken with my Galaxy tablet.  I sure hope that you've seen them everyone.

No hurricanes here - we do get wind that high though thankfully, it isn't too often. Our winds can come in at category 1 and things go flying.   Hot again.

Janet:  Have you read or heard about the reservoir in the east side of our state and that it will be drained by Kansas.  No negotiations - these deals about water rights were made years ago by shall we say not too nice lawyers.  It is a sad situation.  Sorry about your problems with paint.  It will be over soon & they will be on their way.

Marilyn:  Super nice pictures of super nice people!!!  Thanks for sharing.  Wouldn't it be fun for all to get together at one time?

Larry:  I missed the post about your missing a meeting with son.  Sorry for that lost time.  Maybe it can all come about really soon.  Love airplanes - we stood on a hill and watched an air force jet swoop and loop and I wish that I could have been in the back seat.  Fantastic flying.

Waiting for Don to walk in here.  He choked on a piece of toast and coughed so hard that he was exhausted.  I was in the basement and did not hear him - he has been napping.  Yesterday, the drive was another thing that tired him much too much.

Hi Pat!!!! I need to learn more of this iPad.  It came with no instructions, of course.  Keep driving safely!  I hope your home is safe in Virginia.

Carol, I know that Kansas and Colorado have been fighting over water rights for years.  Kansas farmers said Colorado blocked any water from coming down the Arkansas river to Kansas...and they had a court fight about it, which Kansas won.  But as to draining the John Martin Reservoir, I surely hope that doesn't happen.  All I know about it is what I hear here, so may not all be so.

Whew!  Today that wall is as done as it's going to be!  Not what I wanted, but I am not doing it another time.  Darrel is satisfied with it, so that's good enough.

Monday, the plans are to get the bedroom painting finished, and the wood flooring down in the living room.  I am hoping the crown molding will be done too, then we can settle back into one room, at least!  Lon has promised his grandpa to come install a shower, so he will be gone for a few days.  Thus, the hoping for really good progress on Monday!!

I have been painting, helping paint, cleaning rollers and brushes, etc. all day, and I am tired.  So a shower and early to bed sounds good.  Busy tomorrow with church and Beth's birthday party.

Hi, friends,

All this talk about painting and scraping and re-painting must have made me tired in advance, so before I came to CP today, I had a huge long nap!

Now, it's time to wash dishes, etc. ad infinitum...

Y'all have a good rest of the day.

Paul and I had a wonderful visit to the Portland Rose Gardens.  What wonderful roses!  Then we went up to the top of Mount Tibor (highest point in Portland) to watch the sunset.

Hi everyone.  I feel fortunate that we are experiencing quiet, if hot, weather here in Georgia and escaped the effects of Irene.  I had a busy morning yesterday and after attending a meeting I went to Walmart for Pat.  This is not a good thing to do on Saturday as there are so many people there.  I even had to wait in line about 10 minutes or so to check out.  Among other things she wanted some strawberries and they had sold out.  So I went to a local produce market close  by and they had also sold out earlier in the day.  Finally, after stopping by the Post Office I stopped at Krogers and they did have strawberries.  That was it for the day.  Other than attending church today I don't think anything else is on the schedule.  Pat is still not feeling well and having a lot of trouble walking.  She is still using the cane.  She seems to feel better for a little while and then it comes right back.  I don't know about today.

Janet, you are sure right about our friends that we make on the Internet.  It sounds like you are going to have a beautiful room when it is finished.  I sure hope yesterday was the charm in getting the walls as you want them (I see that you have finished them).  I never did like to paint but guess I didn't do enough of it to develop any skill.  We recently had our shutters painted and Pat picked out a color she liked from the paint chips and when it was applied she didn't like it.  I think it is growing on us however as doesn't seem as bad anymore and goes better with our new shingles.

Marilyn, hope your family in NC went through the storm without loss.  This has sure been a slow moving storm and done so much damage and New York is getting the brunt of it today.

Etta Sue, you sound like me in going to shop for something and get out of the store without the item I went in to get.  I also stopped at Dollar General yesterday.  There is one I go by a couple of times a week.  I stocked up on birthday cards for my great grandchildren.

Carol, as it ended up we didn't miss the meeting with our son as he called the evening before and said he would be able to come and meet with us.  So we enjoyed a nice time together.  On your iPad, when you need to know how to do something do a Google search and you will likely find a YouTube video demonstrating just what you need to know.  It is amazing how often this is the case.  If not a video at least some step-by-step instructions.  The water rights issue sounds like what has happened between Georgia, Florida and Alabama over the water in the hugh Lake Lanier that provides the water for Atlanta and a lot of the surrounding area.  A judge ruled a couple of years ago that Atlanta wasn't to be allowed to use any of the water.  Fortunately that was overturned after a couple of years but the battle continues.

Pat, I bet you both got some beautiful pictures at the rose gardens and also of the sunset.

Not much news today since yesterday was a lazy day with just preparing Candy Crackers for our picnic this evening.

I am still not caught up on my missed sleep even though I had a hard time getting to sleep last evening.  I may have to take a nap this afternoon before the picnic.

I am ready for church and Ivalou is driving.

A new week is beginning and it's time to move.

Don is embroiled in Hurricane Irene and her effects, but he has left us a wonderful devotional HERE (http://www.christianphotographers.com/community/index.php?topic=11941.0).
